ALRIGHT after some technological mishaps (laptop charger needed fixed), the first round of check in commission updates should be heading to the relevant email inboxes over the weekend! there are still some emails I need to reply to, and I’m aiming to get those done over the next couple of days as well, but at long last it should be smooth sailing from here on out :)

happy monday everyone i was offline for most of the weekend and now im here to rant about work-related nonsense. did u know that the "New" Microsoft Teams will set the time to display in 24hr time or 12hr time depending on your language setting, and give u no flexibility to choose your own preferred combination of language + time format? i had to change my language from English (Canada) to English (United States) to get my Teams Shifts to display in 12hr time. which is weird because, in my experience, the vast majority of english-speaking canadians use 12hr time. 24hr time is only used for some specific use cases like train schedules - and even then, if i'm talking to someone about taking a train scheduled for 17:00, i'm gonna translate that to 5pm. most of the time we use AM/PM. in any case it's weird not to give a time format option separate from language. why did they do it like that

they are more scared of you than you are of them I guarantee that because you control their grades which is a huge deal in their baby walnut minds (said affectionately). best: genuinely connecting with them on a person to person level/giving advice IF IT'S SOLICITED, genuinely hearing a new and interesting idea from them which isn't every day (not shade ive never had a new idea in my life honestly) but so so cool, helping them to be more confident in their work. worst: fielding a student who's angry they got a bad grade, rich kids who are presumptuous/who you have to teach basic empathy to/who think you're stupid, the impossibility of not taking work home even if you set boundaries

Y’all, the nose freezes scam bot prompt is back! Going to go ahead & guess that this is different from the Palestine donations scam set of bots that steal actual current fundraiser info. Different people running different scams, I imagine. This one seems to function on a more random pattern. These also usually get deleted within a few hours to a day.

Sometimes you’ll see these more random bots follow you first half the time as a means to try to convince you that they’re legit. They’re all just annoying social bots, but documenting this should prove helpful to someone out there.

Misconception: Every time you hit "kudos", the creator gets a notification.

I've seen people claim that if you smash kudos really fast, that you can give creators bonus kudos notification.

The notification email for kudos isn't sent each the button is pressed or every time a kudos is recorded. A task runs regularly that sends one notification email that collects all the kudos left since the last time the task ran. The task runs regularly but it's not immediate.

It used to be possible to get the Archive to glitch and show that you've left a kudos more than once. Sometimes you can still cause one to show up, but that doesn't cause an email to be sent and likely the creator won't see it. AO3 added a clean up task in 2020 that removes any duplicate kudos to help them migrate databases (AO3 Newspost). Even if it the page shows an extra kudos, that gets removed before emails are sent.

Plus people only get kudos notifications, if they enable that setting. There's probably plenty of creators who have the setting turned off.
