TF2 Story Time

So back in the day, 2012 exactly, during the Pyromania update, the Baby Face’s Blaster was added to Team Fortress 2. It’s a Scout primary weapon, that works a bit today but back then it was a weapon that reduced Scout’s moment speed by 35% by default, but as Scout dealt damage, it would build a Boost meter that increased Scout’s movement speed up to a cap much higher than Scout’s standard movement speed, however is Scout ever jumped or double jumped, the boost would be reset back to zero and he’d be back to moving at a snail’s pace. Scout would move so fast, however, that his hitbox would lag behind his visual model, because Source, the game engine TF2 runs on, is notoriously janky, so you’d have to shoot behind the Scout to actually hit him. After the weapon was reworked in the 2013 Two Cities update, this issue was addressed, however it’s commonly misattributed as a bug. In truth, it was actually an intentional game mechanic, as it was a reference to Chess, in which if a Pawn advances 2 spaces for its first move, it actually moves so fast that its hitbox lags behind and enemy pawns can capture it by attacking the tile behind it in a move called En Passant.
