Zoe Saldana stars in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3"SOURCE: MARVEL
That’s not to say Marvel — along with all studios and streamers — doesn’t face some hurdles going forward. But the nature of those obstacles for Marvel are frankly pretty obvious; it’s mostly things Marvel has overcome before; and regardless of those issues and the need to address them, Marvel is still actually doing pretty good right now even amid the problems they’ve had.
So let’s just unpack what’s really going wrong, and what it means for Marvel Studios.
The situation with actor Jonathan Majors — the star of several Marvel films and streaming shows, as the MCU’s time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror — is that he faces multiple accusations of abuse, and is scheduled to stand trial for one recent case. After that case was initially reported, other accusations surfaced, as did previous public statements from years ago by performers who asserted accusations of abuse were already circulating about Majors.
So yes, Marvel will almost certainly recast Kang. Lucky for Marvel, the character literally exists across a near-infinite number of alternate realities where he takes different forms and changes appearance. Likewise, Marvel has had to recast characters in the past, just like lots of other franchise or TV/streaming series. This isn’t brain surgery, and the framing of this issue as something that could sink Marvel’s whole future plans is frankly nonsense.
Just one great example, Marvel could offer the role to John Boyega (who I’d argue should’ve been the top candidate for the role in the first place). Or maybe Denzel Washington as an iteration of Kang who sat out the in-fighting and collective efforts of the rest of the Kangs and grew older and wiser as he made his plans to take over. Or maybe Ray Fisher could be offered the role, if Marvel wants to poke DC and WBD while scoring a great casting option.

Or perhaps Marvel could offer the role to Leslie Odom Jr., Lakeith Stanfield, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Daveed Diggs, Stephan James, or any number of other fantastic casting choices to take over the role of Kang in the MCU.

The point is, the worst part of the situation with John Majors is if the allegations are true and women suffered this abuse while Hollywood ignored it. The casting “problem” is small potatoes by comparison, and is easy to solve.
So let’s look at the financials now, since a central claim to the “Marvel is in trouble” narrative is that the studio is struggling at the box office while streaming is an unpopular mess.
At the box office, it’s true Marvel hit a high point with their back to back releases of the two-part Avengers conclusion to the Infinity Saga. The $2.79 billion from Endgame and $2 billion from Infinity War elevated the final global gross for all 22 films in that saga to more than $20 billion, for a per-film average of around $935 million.
In 2018 and 2019, the MCU put up the following numbers: Black Panther hit $1.34 billion, then Infinity War topped $2 billion, then Captain Marvel scored $1.1 billion, and then Endgame took $2.79 billion. Ant-Man and the Wasp at $622 is the only MCU film in those 24 months that failed to top $1 billion.
Since the Infinity Saga ended, Marvel’s releases have taken north of $8.1 billion across 10 movies so far, with a Multiverse Saga per film average of about $815 million. The difference between $815 million and $935 million is not insignificant, but nor is it disastrous, and it’s certainly not hard to understand why it’s happening.
The 2018 and 2019 slates for the Infinity Saga benefited from a decade of build-up, and it was those last four (out of five total) blockbusters topping $1-2 billion each that provided the final heft and resulted in an even higher per film average. We are only in the first half of the Multiverse Saga to date, and so far we haven’t had a single Avengers movie in this new saga, while as noted the Infinity Saga ended with a one-two Avengers punch good for more than $2 million per film.
And then the fact of the Covid pandemic alone accounts for most of the rest of the downturn in Marvel Studios’ average box office performance. Even during the Covid pandemic, when films were flopping or going straight to streaming/PVOD, Marvel’s three releases that performed “badly” due to the global health crisis still managed to finish between $379.7 million on the lowest end and $432 million. That’s better than the DCEU can perform even after theaters reopened and box office started its climb back toward something resembling “normal” — at least for the right films, since 2023 has been a roller coaster ride for theatrical.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania underperformed earlier this year and wound up the weakest performer of that franchise at $476 million, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 scored blockbuster results with $845.5 million.
Indeed, Vol. 3 is currently the fourth-highest grossing movie of 2023, both domestically and worldwide. And for the record, as disappointing as its box office was, 2023 has been so cruel to theatrical releases that Quantumania is still a top-10 box office performer.
We’ve seen one would-be blockbuster tentpole after another face-plant or otherwise disappoint, and often when a tentpole has managed a healthy box office performance it’s at a more moderate level than expected or typically enjoyed by the given franchise and/or its prior financial trajectory.
Other than Barbie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Oppenheimer, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, nothing else truly put up top-tier results this year. Fast X topped $700 million, but is fourth film in a row from the series to suffer a decline from its predecessor’s box office gross, and the lowest box office for the franchise since 2011’s Fast Five, so it’s a mixed bag there.
Besides that, 2023 saw three films in the $500-600 millions range, four in $400 millions territory, and a couple of $300 millions.
The makeup of the top 10 this year looks like this: Barbie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Oppenheimer, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Fast X, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Little Mermaid, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, Elemental, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Notice, there are three Marvel superhero movies in the top 10. Yes, one of them underperformed, but the point is that it seems silly to talk as if audience are in any widespread or large scale way turning away from superhero cinema, or that Marvel is somehow reeling from a downfall and have lost control.
The Marvels is currently tracking toward a shockingly low debut this weekend, with most projections pointing to a $130-$150 million global opening. Without at least average holds, the film could struggle to get past $300-400 million. On the other hand, I think tracking has proven pretty unreliable these days, and I believe a significant part of these disappointing numbers is the fact a lot of people are confusing this film with being another new Disney+ Marvel show, or think it is coming to Disney+ as a film soon. There’s also the general 2023 ongoing curse to consider.
But regardless, The Marvels should’ve been a home run sequel. While we can point to the unethical shenanigans and toxic behavior of fans and of certain organized hateful online voices obsessed with attacking women-driven movies or shows, if this film flops or underperforms rather than merely suffering a downward adjustment consistent with the genre overall (which would mean a box office for The Marvels in the $700 million range, I’d say), then it’s entirely fair to call it a big stumble for the studio.
The large-scale tainting of superhero cinema by the DCEU’s overarching failure the past several years (eight films in a row across five years, all failing to reach $400 million and averaging in the roughly $250 million range) coinciding with the Covid pandemic and theatrical downturn, coupled with a leveling off — not uncontrolled free-fall or any other hyperbolic situation — of Marvel’s must-see “event” status in the aftermath of their 11-year Infinity Saga’s conclusion (and lack of any Avengers team-ups for four years and counting) has no doubt reduced the dominance of the superhero genre and audience’s previous high-level anticipation.
But that sort of heightened “event” status is impossible for any franchise or genre to maintain, and no serious person expected the genre or any one studio’s piece of it to be some perpetual ever-increasing profit machine
Neither Marvel nor the genre in general need to treat the usual ebb and flow of primacy in entertainment as if it’s some major crisis threatening the existence and profitability of the studio or genre. That’s just the natural clickbait mentality driving entertainment journalism. We should be able to report on and assess such situations without resort to exaggerated portrayals for melodramatic purposes, nor parrot claims from those with obvious incentives and ulterior motives behind any of that sort of hyperbolic claims. We know better, but that doesn’t mean the profession behaves better, and so we get clickbait and studio drama delivered up like silly reality TV, and everyone pretends not to recognize it as the nonsense it usually is.
Marvel has to recast a major lead actor, something we’ve seen plenty of times by studios and projects, including literally by Marvel themselves on more than one occasion. Marvel’s first two films of 2023 grossed a combined $1.3 billion in box office. Even if The Marvels only does about half the box office of Captain Marvel — a vastly bigger drop than the Ant-Man franchise experienced, but let’s just use a 50% dramatic decrease to make the larger point — the MCU will have grossed a total of about $2.45 billion for 2023, an average of $815 million per film.
If that figure sounds familiar, it’s because I mentioned it earlier since it’s the per-film average for the MCU ever since the end of the Infinity Saga. Marvel settled back a bit from the high per-film average of $935 million, and for four years we’ve consistently seen this same new average level of performance for their films. Again, not insignificant as a drop, but in context it’s easier to understand and recognize as not a sudden emergency situation, and I suspect most studios would be happy if they could average north of $800 million per film on average every year.
And let’s face it, once the latest Avengers movies hit the radar, we’ll see the average per film gross go up during those years, just like always, and in the long run if the two scheduled Avengers movies play at the $2 billion level, that will actually result in an increase in the final average per-film gross for the Multiverse Saga, just as those huge Avengers box office grosses at the end of Infinity Saga seriously raised the saga’s per-film average.
This is all fairly predictable, within an obvious margin of error but not frankly too far of deviation. Which doesn’t negate the fact of the downturn in average performances, but rather puts it into less histrionic perspective as solvable problems for a still overwhelmingly successful studio that’s seeing per film averages still far superior to what any other studio can claim.
On streaming, where audience trends and preferences have likewise evolved during the Covid era, Marvel
First we got the ABC broadcast series: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, and Inhumans. Want to take a moment to recall how did those all fair with audiences and critics?
Then came Netflix's slate, with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher — half of those got mostly good or great reviews, a couple got mixed to negative reviews, and along the way different seasons of a given show had their ups and downs. Many fans and reviewers bemoaned the general lack of tie-in to the cinematic releases, a point that's amusing in light of how the same reviewers and fans completely reversed course a few years later to bemoan the fact the newer MCU shows often try to tie in to the MCU.
So next up are The Runaways and Cloak and Dagger, shows with younger casts and less direct connection to the rest of the MCU, but both were short lived and appeared on two different streaming services.
Which brings us to the MCU shows on Disney+, overseen by Marvel Studios itself and consisting of WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If...?, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Secret Invasion.
While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and What If...? received mixed reactions, WandaVision and Loki got generally good to great reviews, as did Hawkeye and Moon Knight.
Ms. Marvel likewise received strong positive reviews, aside from resentful fans mostly motivated by racism or sexism who bashed the show (the same way angry bigoted fans harassed Brie Larson and tried to manipulate online reviews for Captain Marvel, and to this day engage in bizarre conspiracy theories pretending movies with women leads are secretly propped up by studios buying up tickets), and the same mob of boys and men perpetually upset that everything isn’t just a mirror reflecting themselves were incensed that She-Hulk dared make fun of them for being immature, bigoted, and all-around goofy.
Granted, She-Hulk did often have what looked like rushed and unfinished CGI, but it was also still miles ahead of most TV CGI and it didn’t detract from the entertainment value of the show and was generally fine. (Yes, plenty of folks just didn’t enjoy these shows, and I’m sure it’s entirely a coincidence that for many of them it always happens to be women-led shows that bother them or are declared “meh”).
Secret Wars is the most recent new MCU show (besides a new season of Loki), and it got mixed reviews that lean mostly positive but still point to trouble in the decision-making to develop the series, questions about
The point of all of this is, Marvel’s had a lot of superhero shows for a long time during the reign of the MCU, and the shows have tended to mostly get good or great reviews, while often suffering complaints of inconsistency in tie-ins vs stand-alone abilities, or iffy VFX, or questions about who is in charge and why certain decisions were made. Sound familiar? It should, because it’s a broken record of reality at this point, the sort that gets mentioned as if it’s a new development any time someone is pushing the latest version of the “sky is falling” narrative.
Not that there aren’t issues needing solutions. The budgets are too high, and Marvel — like many streamers — is discovering it’s simply not sustainable to spend $20 million or more per episode with rushed production schedules and increasingly unreasonable demands on VFX workers.
But the shows themselves are so far working and working pretty well, if you aren’t focused entirely on social media debates and media exaggerations. Most every MCU show on Disney+ has enjoyed positive reception from critics and viewers, enjoying good (and sometimes record-setting) viewership. Fixing the problems for the Marvel streaming plans is not really any more difficult than fixing the theatrical issues, because it’s easy to identify the problems, easy to see where the problems arose, and easy to see what is necessary to end those problems.
Nobody foresaw the Covid pandemic (or at least the extent of it) or the utterly shameful, failed public health response it elicited from governments and organizations that are paid and entrusted to prevent or deal with such crises. Marvel was caught off guard like every studio, Marvel suffered the same box office downturn as every studio, Marvel leaned into streaming like every studio, and Marvel is now having to make adjustments to adapt to the still-evolving environment theatrically and in streaming.
So media and fans and others in Hollywood pretending this is some shocking, Marvel-specific situation are making disingenuous claims, and they should know better. Most probably do, but the truth is more boring than doomsaying — and with everything else in the world falling apart, clickbait and hyperbole are the best way to get attention for entertainment news during a drought (caused by few new films/shows releasing, and the likelihood of strikes dragging into next year because studios put money toward bonuses, yachts, and private jets rather than pay artists, writers, and performers living wages from a fair share of the revenue they generate).
Marvel will recast Kang, they’ll reduce the number of shows and films in production at a given time, they’ll get budgets under control and allow more time for VFX work, and they’ll refocus on the approaches and measures that worked so well in the past to determine which projects to greenlight and how to return to the sense of a big shared world the Avengers have to team up to save.
Luckily, with the X-Men and Fantastic Four reboots around the corner, Marvel has a couple of big teams with lots of potential for precisely the sort of storytelling Marvel does best at the blockbuster level. They could even simply move toward a post-Secret Wars setup that lets Fantastic Four, X-Men, and a handful of other existing popular franchises carry the Marvel brand forward for a while.
We will also probably see the temporary return of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson reprise their popular MCU roles for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.
And looking at the upcoming slate, it’s not hard to see there’s plenty of reason to feel confident Marvel will continue to enjoy success, even if it’s at a slightly moderated level due to the myriad factors we’ve discussed, including the idea that superhero genre films are settling into a more consistent long-term level of popularity and performance from now on.
The next four years brings Deadpool 3, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, Blade, Fantastic Four, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars, and at some point thereafter Armor Wars and the X-Men. Of these films, the two Avengers movies are likely to be blockbuster hits, as is Deadpool 3. Captain America: Brave New World is an established franchise, lacking the original series lead but with a continuing cast and brand that I think are enough to avoid any significant downturn in box office, even if we see some drop from the peak levels of the Infinity Saga.
Blade and Thunderbolts are the riskier properties here, but the former is a previously successful cinematic brand and the latter is a team-up movie including some recognizable characters and stars. Still, this is where we might see more underperformances. Fantastic Four could likewise either perform at a blockbuster levels, or might wind up in the $700 million range, but as a key property getting lots of attention and must-work oversight, I think it’ll avoid being a problem.
Armor Wars as an extension of the Iron Man movies — and possibly/probably coming after we see Robert Downey Jr. again in some Avengers action — should perform well, and X-Men is a known successful brand getting an MCU reboot and polish as a big team franchise including younger cast members, so I think it’ll at least be capable of playing at the Guardians of the Galaxy level, if done right.
This isn’t a debacle, it’s not doomsday, and Marvel isn’t in disarray. The internal difficulties they’ve faced are frankly typical and easy to identify and solve, as much as everything else we’ve discussed here. The bottom line is this: we’ve seen Marvel Studios kick off with a big hit in Iron Man and an outright flop with The Incredible Hulk, after which Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor performed at okay levels but didn’t set the box office on fire by any stretch.
We got the original Avengers movie off the strength of Iron Man and Iron Man 2, and to really help put this into perspective I’ll point out the average per film box office of Phase One was $634 million. Phase Two’s per film average was $876 million.
Marvel worked hard to build what they created, and it’s a tremendous historic success full of ups and downs that so far have ultimately maintained an impressive level of successful across a large slate of films and series. To look at this history, this math, and think Marvel Studios is in deep trouble, struggling, or never really was very good to begin with, is unreasonable and contrary to the data and any serious considerations.

Tumblr media
Its currently 88 degrees in my apartment and has been 90 degrees all day.
I dont use my air conditioning.
I dont have central air.
I have a wall unit in a 1 bedroom apartment.
I am in New Jersey and there have been heat weeks the past few weeks with temperatures in the 90s and 100s with extremely high humidity.
I have a single ceiling fan in my dining room that I utilize.
Tumblr media
As you can see, I dress light & minimal.
I also stay hydrated & drink plenty of water.
When its really hot, I will sometimes just remove my clothes & be naked.
Is it warm? Yes.
Hot even? Yes.
Uncomfortable? Yes.
Stuffy & humid? Yes.
Unbearable? No.
And thats the lie.
Thats the lie of modern life.
That a fan simply isnt enough.
The EPA advises that the average American keeps their air conditioning thermostat between 68 & 72 degrees all summer.
That is fucking disgusting.
The EPA suggests keeping thermostats at 80.
I suggest turning your AC off and just using a fan.
Wear light, minimal clothing or take your clothes off.
Stay hydrated & drink water.
If youre still hot, place a bowl of ice cubes in front of your fan.
You can also place ice cubes in wash cloths and apply them to your underarms, back of your neck & groin area.
You can also place a wash cloth under cold water and place the damp cloth on the back of your neck.
You do not have to have your AC blasting at all times while indoors over the summer months.
You have been brainwashed & conditioned to expect this & to do this.
Americans use 90% of the worlds air conditioning & we are nowhere near 90% of the worlds population.
Need more of a reason to turn your air conditioning off even during heat waves?
•The cooling industry accounts for 10% of global CO2 emissions.
•Americans consume more energy for air conditioning than the rest of the world combined.
•The number of global cooling devices is estimated to increase from 3.6 billion to 9.5 billion by 2050.
•HFC emissions are projected to contribute warming equivalent to 20% of CO2 output by 2050.
•Air conditioning in the US releases approximately 100 millions tons of carbon dioxide into the air.
Air conditioning was only invented in 1902 — literally about 100 years ago.
It is essentially a brand new invention when compared to the rest of human existence — so why do you think that you cant live without it?
Yes, buildings are architecturally designed differently since air conditioning became ubiquitious around the 1960s in the United States.
Buildings used to be designed for the hot air to rise to the ceiling and now they are not designed that way as the built-in assumption is air conditioning will be utilized as 82% of American residences have either central air conditioning or wall units.
While that is true, I am living proof that even during heat waves with triple digit temperatures and extreme humidity, you can absolutely get by with just a ceiling and/or box fan.
You dont need artificially cooled air to survive.
You have just been brainwashed to think that way as an American as nearly every single indoor building — whether it is an indoor arena, movie theater, shopping mall, restaurant, office, hair salon, nail salon, massage parlor, retail store, department store — all has air conditioning absolutely at full blast between 68 & 72 degrees the entire summer.
That is absolutely not the norm anywhere except America which is why we utilize more air conditioning than the rest of the world combined.
Only in America can you literally go days, weeks and even months without ever encountering air that hasnt been artificially cooled.
We shouldnt shield ourselves from the impact of the climate change that we humans have caused.
We should be uncomfortable!
We should feel what the real temperature is outside and what we have caused it to be with all of our as a species collective damaging ecocidal actions to our environment.
We are killing the planet and the earth.
If we dont change, earth will be uninhabitable within 100 years at the absolute most which is why Elon is already planning to colonize Mars.
We humped, pumped & dumped one planet — earth — so why not another?
Our ecocidal actions as a species has caused extreme climate change impacts creating the heat waves that have been observed across the country all summer long, record shattering temperatures & natural disasters.
I have lived in New Jersey for 42 years and for the first time in my life this April there was a 5.2 earthquake.
Americans are addicted to air conditioning period.
Stop the addiction.
Turn off your AC.

Jawaan Box Office Collection Day 21: "Jawaan" has crossed the 500 crore mark at the box office, making a significant milestone with global earnings reaching 1000 crores. However, there are doubts about whether it can maintain its momentum after crossing the 1000 crore mark. This is based on the recent weekly box office collections, which have been disappointing for fans. However, there might be a resurgence in collections over the weekend as the makers have introduced a special two-for-one ticket offer. Now, let's take a look at the earnings of the film on its 21st day. According to initial box office reports, "Jawaan" has collected only 5.15 crores on its 21st day. This brings the total earnings of the film in India to 576.23 crores, while globally it has crossed the 1000 crore mark. The India gross stands at 686.15 crores. 'In another groundbreaking launch, Oppenheimer, the latest cinematic spectacle from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, has officially hit theaters in China.
Raking in an estimated $5.4 million on its opening day, the film has landed a decent start, and is already generating significant buzz, as its stellar performance on the review aggregator site Maoyan has granted it an audience score of 9.5/10, a record high for any Nolan movie. Furthermore, the verdict on Douban stands strong at 8.7, tying with Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, released back in 2012. Additionally, the film also crossed the $300 million mark in the North American box office.
If early estimates hold true, the weekend is expected to exceed the $20 million mark, hinting at a promising trajectory for this cinematic spectacle. Notably, the China debut figure encompasses $300,000 earned from Monday midnight screenings. This strong initial reception gains even more significance considering the fading popularity of midnight showings since the pandemic. The fact that the film managed to draw over $5 million on a regular day without the advantage of a holiday, it is expected to get further momentum.
Comparing with other Nolan films, the launch day performance dipped 35% from those of Dunkirk and Tenet, both of which had released on a regular Friday. When comparing to Interstellar, also released on a Wednesday, Oppenheimer had an impressive 11% improvement, while it also surged 38% beyond the Monday debut of The Dark Knight Rises. When compared to other 2023 releases, these figures align closely with the Friday opening earnings of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which had a $19 million opening weekend and ended its run with just over $39 million. However, that film was critically panned and did not get a positive word of mouth.
Meanwhile, Interstellar, despite earning less than Oppenheimer on opening Wednesday, ended the weekend at $42 million and overall haul at $123 million, a figure that may push Oppenheimer beyond $1 billion. Inception, Tenet, and Dunkirk ended their run at $68 million, $66 million, and $51 million, respectively. Nolan has consistently enjoyed strong reception in China, with the country leading the offshore market charts for Inception in 2010, Interstellar in 2014, and Tenet in 2020. As reported earlier, Nolan has become the first major Hollywood filmmaker to travel to the Chinese market since the pandemic. During his visit, the filmmaker attended screenings, insightful Q&A sessions, and direct interaction with fans in Beijing and Shanghai.
Oppenheimer Is Predicted to Reach $43 Million
Maoyan's , a figure expected to evolve as time progresses, mimicking the runs of other Nolan films. However, it's noteworthy that local productions have recently gained the upper hand over Hollywood releases, setting the stage for a fierce competition. While the Warner Bros.' box office triumph, Barbie only raked $34 million from the country, the already popular Mission: Impossible franchise fell flat in the market, only collecting $48 million, as opposed to the previous films' over $100 million marks. However, Meg 2: The Trench and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts still had a commendable run, grossing over $111 million and $90 million respectively.
Regardless of the final numbers, Oppenheimer is on the brink of crossing the remarkable $800 million global box office threshold this weekend. With a global tally of $788.9 million as of Tuesday, it has now surpassed both Deadpool and Deadpool 2, to become the second highest grossing R-rated film of all time, behind Joker. The film has amassed a substantial $487.7 million from international markets alone, becoming the fourth highest-grossing Hollywood title overseas this year, surpassing even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Additionally, Oppenheimer toppled Barbie this weekend to reign the top of the worldwide box office, and reigns as the most successful Nolan film of all time in 56 offshore territories...'

Even getting a diagnosis is a 20-page questionnaire. And not just for you, you also have to administer 20-page questionnaires to someone who lives with you currently, and someone who lived with you as a child. Besides being absurdly intrusive, that is like intentionally designing a process to be hostile towards the people that need it. So I've prepared this guide to help:
Step 1) Overcome the enormous hurdle that is telling a doctor "I think I have an issue that I've tried to hide from people my entire life because of the stigma that it's not a real issue or I'm just lazy"
2) Maintain interest and resolve for the 3-5 days it takes for your stack of paperwork to be delivered to you by mail (yes, mail - no, they can't email it)
3) Inform two more people - this time people you may have complicated relationships with like parents or adult siblings, that may or may not be supportive of you - that you think you've always had this problem but it's the one problem you can't get help for unless they fill out a questionnaire.
4) Coordinate giving them a physical stack of paper. This is a low bar for the person you live with - leave it on the nearest flat surface, when they ask what it is, say "yours, I assigned you homework" (try it, your roommate or significant other will love it). If the people that knew you as a child all live hundreds of miles away, however, now you need a stamp. And a manila envelope because the stack of paper is too big to fold. I haven't had manila envelopes in the house since the aughts. If the stack of paper is too big to fold, does that mean you need more stamps? Google "weight limit stamp". How many pages are in an ounce? It probably depends on the thickness of the paper. What weight paper is an ADHD questionnaire printed on? Do we have a kitchen scale?
5) Decide the U.S. Postal Service isn't the right choice for you, carve out a whole afternoon to call your dad and ask him questions that basically come down to "when I was a kid, did you ever think I was really terrible at everyday things other people do with no problem?" while you write his answers on 24-weight bond paper (you're a paper expert now). Bonus points for keeping him on task and making it through the whole questionnaire if your dad is autistic like mine is - there's a genetic link between autism and ADHD (Ghirardi et al., 2018) so it's not as unlikely as you might think.
6) You still have to fill out your 20 pages, you forgot.
6) Collect together the 60-page sworn deposition about what a broken human being you are and leave it in a stack in a conspicuous place for a week or more because you still don't have a manila envelope. You should probably put something heavy on top.
7) After you've waited the requisite 7 days for your stationery-related executive dysfunction to pass, get frustrated, pound ~500 mg of caffeine, take the naked stack of paper to the post office, mail it back in a flat rate box because it's never going to get done otherwise.
8) Maintain interest and resolve for the roughly 3-5 days it should take for your stack of paperwork to be delivered to the doctor's office, and then remember to call them to see if they got it (no, they can't just email you when they get it).
9) Hooray, now you can get an appointment with a different doctor that can actually give you a diagnosis. That's right, this isn't the process to get diagnosed, this is the process just to even talk to someone that can diagnose you. You have to talk to them in person, even if it's during a globally unprecedented pandemic, so don't forget you have an appointment, and maintain focus and resolve for the 2-3 weeks it takes for them to see you. Note: When you go to this appointment, despite the 60 pages of sworn testimony you mailed back in a flat rate box, they still think you're lying. Probably because nobody ever actually manages to complete the whole thing.
10) After the required amount of grovelling they'll let you play a computer game where you click a box over and over. Note: they will not think it's funny if you refer to it as a game, it is the Conners' CPT 3rd Edition test and it is a very serious clinical evaluation tool. They also will not think it's funny if you point out it looks like something you made in Visual Basic when you were 12. They probably also wouldn't think it was funny if you brought up the fact that Conners' CPT 3rd Edition scores are "are not accurate performance validity tests among adults undergoing clinical evaluation for ADHD" (Scimeca et al., 2021). If you're bad enough at the computer game, you'll receive the coveted Clinical Diagnosis™. They're still not going to do anything to treat it, but you're now worthy to speak to another doctor that might.
11) Note: He's an asshole.
12) There's two step 6s

#BoxOfficePrediction for #Pathaan : #ShahRukhKhan's comeback film Pathaan can achive his first #300cr club film. It is expected that Shahrukh Khan's action film can make strong earnings on the opening day and on the first 5 days of the long weekend. All eyes are on Shah Rukh Khan's comeback film 'Pathaan' eagerly waiting 25th Jan. It is expected that the film Pathan can earn tremendously at the box office. Talking about Pathan, I want to say “As we all know, Shah Rukh Khan is returning to the screen after four years with a high-octane action entertainer. People are talking about the film." Since it is the first major release of 2023, all eyes are on it. Talking about advance booking so It started in full swing on 20 January and more than 5 lakh tickets were sold on the first day itself. More than 2 lakh tickets sold across top 3 multiplex chains, PVR, INOX and Cinepolis. On the spectacular advance booking of tickets, It proves that people only want to watch big entertainment on the big screen. Advance ticket booking has instilled a sense of confidence in the entire Hindi film fraternity, which was struggling in 2022 while facing stiff competition from global cinema and films from South India. Pathan is the best that Hindi films can offer right now. It stars a star cast of Shah Rukh, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, directed by Siddharth Anand and backed by Yash Raj Films. I expects the film's opening day collection to be between Rs 40-45 crore. Pathan's glory will not be limited to just its first day in theatres. I am confident that it will witness some record-breaking collections in its 5-day long weekend. I suggested that the film would earn Rs 175-180 crore in the domestic market in the first five days and easily collect Rs 300 crore in hindi belt.Yash Raj Films, which could not deliver a hit last year, will "bounce back this year". So, be it the Tiger movie or the Dhoom franchise or War, it is one genre that YRF has always taken up. So, with a director like Siddharth he will deliver a hit. https://www.instagram.com/p/CnzePrHpPnX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Black Americans experiencing collective trauma, grief
Carlil Pittman knows trauma firsthand.
As the co-founder of the Chicago-based youth organization GoodKidsMadCity-Englewood, he grieved the loss of Delmonte Johnson, a young community activist, more than two years ago to the very thing the teen fought fiercely against: gun violence.
He’s also been angered and frustrated by the onslaught of stories of Black Americans killed at the hands of police across the nation throughout the past year.
First, there was Breonna Taylor, a Black woman who was fatally shot in her Louisville, Kentucky, home last March. Then there was George Floyd, whose Memorial Day killing by a Minneapolis officer sparked global protests. Just this week, Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota — just minutes from where Floyd died. And on Friday, Pittman spent much of the day planning a demonstration with other Chicago organizers to protest the police killing of 13-year-old Adam Toledo, who was Latino.
“We’re constantly turning on the TV, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and seeing people that look like us who are getting murdered with no repercussions,” said Pittman, an organizer for A New Deal for Youth. “It’s not normal to see someone get murdered by the click of a video on your phone, yet it has become the norm for our people, our Black and brown communities.”
Many Black Americans are facing a collective sense of grief and trauma that has grown more profound with the loss of each life at the hands of police in America. Some see themselves and their children reflected in the victims of police violence, heightening the grief they feel. That collective mourning is a great concern to experts and medical professionals who consider the intersectionality of racism and various forms of trauma impacting communities of color a serious public health crisis facing America.
The racial trauma impacting Black Americans isn’t new. It’s built upon centuries of oppressive systems and racist practices that are deeply embedded within the fabric of the nation. Racial trauma is a unique form of identity-related trauma that people of color experience due to racism and discrimination, according to Dr. Steven Kniffley, a licensed psychologist and coordinator for Spalding University’s Collective Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
“A lot of cities across the country are realizing that racial trauma is a public health issue,” Kniffley said, citing health concerns such as increased rates of suicide among Black men, a life expectancy gap and post-traumatic stress disorder. ”There’s no other way that we can explain that except for the unique experiences Black and brown folks have based on their identity, and more specifically, when they encounter racism and discrimination.”
Kniffley said each generation of Black Americans since slavery has faced its own unique iteration of racism and discrimination, which has manifested into a form of intergenerational trauma.
“We’ve essentially handed down 10 or 15 generations worth of boxes of trauma that have yet to be unpacked, and that’s what’s contributing to a lot of those biological and mental health related issues that we’re having,” Kniffley said, noting the trauma extends beyond police violence.
In a 2018 study examining the mental health impact of police killings on Black Americans, researchers found exposure to police killings of unarmed Black Americans had adverse effects on mental health among Black people. Nearly half of Black Americans who responded said they were exposed to one or more police killings of unarmed Black Americans in their state of residence — either through word of mouth or the media.
“That effect was found only in Black (Americans),” said Dr. Atheendar S. Venkataramani, one of the authors of the study and a physician at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Rashad Robinson, the president of Color of Change, said the trauma has also created generations of Black Americans who have valid mistrust of law enforcement agencies. And many are experiencing further mental anguish while watching the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck.
“We have a whole set of folks with badges and guns who are supposed to protect and serve and they do neither,” Robinson said. "In order to survive, we have to integrate into a system in a structure which is brutal — brutal to our lives, our dignity, our health. It has collective and long-term impact.”
While much of the media spotlight on police killings impacting Black Americans is focused on Black men, experts say it’s important to also highlight misogynoir — misogyny directed toward Black women. Black women experience misogynoir in various aspects of their lives but also in connection with police violence. The #SayHerName campaign was launched in 2014 to bring awareness to the lesser-known stories of Black women and girls who have been victimized by police. The hashtag flourished again after Taylor's death, prompting accusations of delayed justice in her case.
“As a mom, I’m constantly in fear for my son and my heart is broken by this country over and over again,” said Aimee Allison, who leads She the People. “It really calls into question how Black women in particular, who’ve sacrificed so much to serve this country in terms of democracy and bringing voters to the polls, upholding a vision of peace and justice for everyone else, how much more can we take?”
Chicago resident Erendira Martinez said the Little Village community, a Chicago neighborhood with a majority Latino population, is also hurting, not just from Toledo’s killing but also from the trauma of losing other children to gun violence.
On Thursday night, just hours after the video of Toledo’s death was released, a 17-year-old girl was shot and killed in the same neighborhood. Martinez’s own teenage daughter was shot and killed in Little Village in December.
“We had just buried my daughter, and a month later, we’re burying this kid that grew up with my daughter," she said. "No mother should bury their child.”
Some community organizations are working to address the trauma, said Aswad Thomas, chief of organizing for Alliance for Safety and Justice, who runs Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice, a network of more than 46,000 crime survivors from mostly Black and Latino communities. The group is releasing its first-ever National Crime Victims Agenda next week to address collective trauma.
“The tragic truth is that police violence is the most horrific, visible symptom of a larger systemic problem of how our public safety system is designed and we need to address that head-on,” Thomas said. “But while also investing in the mom and pops who are on the front lines to violence, hosting the community vigils and interventions groups.”
Uzodinma Iweala, CEO of The Africa Center, based in New York, said sometimes the thought of what he and so many other Black Americans have experienced is rage-inducing. He thinks of the times he and his brothers have been stopped by police. Or the time his uncle was called a racial slur by an officer. And how in each instance they prayed they would make it out alive — experiences he thinks some white Americans willfully ignore.
“We’re going to need a real fundamental examination of the roots of what America is,” Iweala said. “America refuses to acknowledge that America is not a country without the labor of and the blood, sweat and tears of Black people. Until America values those contributions, it will never value Blackness as a life form.”

The Hero Analysis for the Future No. 78 deck is now available! Follow the link in this post to purchase them!
Additional information:
Let me first start by saying thank you for your interest, and thanks to everyone who filled out the interest form in the past few months! The data I collected will help inform me about what I need to reorder in the future until I can get actual purchase data.
Where are we at right now?
The cards are now LIVE! Go get ‘em while they last!
How long until the cards are available?
They are available now! I am fulfilling orders that I expect to first ship on Tuesday, May 26 (holiday weekend and all)
Where can I buy them, and how much are they?
The decks cost $37.50 USD, which does NOT include shipping. They can be purchased on Etsy. I previously mentioned a figure around 35.00- I had to up the price to include some additional fees associated with selling these myself and not through a third party, but this should work.
Can you tell me more about shipping?
I can’t tell you how hard I’m trying to not make a joke about the other kind of shipping. Anyway. Will I ship international? Yes! Anywhere I can legally send packages to and which still has a postal service running in these trying times is a place I would be happy to send your cards. I ship from the US via USPS, just to give you a base gauge of what that shipping will cost and how long your parcels will take to arrive. (You can also calculate this on Etsy with a few clicks.) Luckily, I can drop these packages into my local post box (instead of having to drive to the post office, unless I get a LOAD of orders in one day), so there shouldn’t be much in the way of processing time either! Unless I get swamped with orders immediately haha.
You’re shipping from your home in times of a global pandemic, what are your cleanliness practices? I WAS trying to limit how many hands the cards touched on their way to you, but you can see where that got me. My home is pet and smoke free and hopefully as mold-free as it can get, though I do eat peanuts/ tree nuts if that’s a genuine concern for you. (I have no idea how far those allergens can travel, for those with high sensitivities, but y’know!)  I’ll of course be washing my hands before packing your cards, but that will be about it. If you need me to do extra sanitation at any part of the shipping process that is in my control, I will be happy to comply. Just leave a note when you buy!
How many decks are available?
My starting stock was 50 of each deck: standard vs. alternate lovers, minus a few that I have given to family and close friends. I expect to sell out; I will do what I can to reorder decks, so please don’t fret if I run out of the deck you wanted! If I am still able to reorder via the company I am purchasing from despite marketplace rejection, I will do so. Processing time for new stock will be 3-4 weeks.
What can I expect the cards to look like?
You’ve seen the actual card faces, I’m sure, but what about the deck itself?
Here’s what you can expect (note this was a prototype box and slight alterations have been made since):

The gilt edges are hard to capture on camera in the setup I was using for my glamor shots, but the real effect is stunning! If you have questions I haven’t answered, reply to this post and I will do my best to answer them! Thanks for reading and thanks for your interest in this project!!

Female Artists Fighting For Their Due Are Not Being Greedy; They’re Defending the Futures of Their Industries
Both Swift and Johansson have incited high profile disputes, and both have been called by critics the “wrong person” to serve as the figurehead for the big picture arguments based on how much money they make... Actually, it makes them the best voices for their causes.

In May of 2010, Iron Man 2 introduced Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A few months later, Netflix—whose subscribers were, in majority, still receiving DVDs—began offering a standalone streaming subscription independent from its DVD rentals. It wasn’t until nearly ten years later that Disney, parent company of Marvel Entertainment, would launch its own streaming service, Disney+. And in 2021, after three pandemic-related delays, Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff’s solo film which fans had been demanding for 11 years, was finally released.
The long-awaited film garnered $80 million in North American theaters during its opening weekend, more than any other film released during the pandemic era. (In comparison, MCU’s last pre-pandemic release, Spider-Man: Far From Home, made $185 million). Because of the somewhat mercurial state of indoor gatherings around the world, Disney chose to make Black Widow available simultaneously in theaters and for an additional $30 fee for Disney+ subscribers. After opening weekend, in an unprecedented move in streaming service transparency, Disney revealed the film had grossed $60 million through Disney+’s Premier Access feature.
The next weekend, the film suffered a 67% drop in box office sales. Disney has not since released streaming numbers.
Within a month, news broke that Johansson was suing Disney over the film’s hybrid release. Her suit claims that her contract for the film guaranteed an exclusively theatrical release and that her compensation was largely tied to box office revenue, which was impacted by the film’s simultaneous availability on Disney+. The breach of contract is a serious allegation against the company, and it comes from the embodiment of one of the longest-standing pillars of its most successful franchise.
Disney’s response? Make her the bad guy. Paint her as the greedy, insensitive Hollywood prima donna. Publish her salary to prove it, despite a policy of “never publicly disclos[ing] salaries or deal terms.” And blame the pandemic.
In a statement, the company claimed Johansson’s suit had “no merit whatsoever” and called it “especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Their argument here is twofold: 1) the pandemic prevented them from releasing the movie in theaters, and 2) she should be happy with the millions she has already gotten.
We have all had to make concessions due to the pandemic, albeit most of us on a smaller scale. But Disney’s sudden overwhelming concern for public health and safety is less than convincing. Their claim that they couldn’t have released the film in theaters proves baseless on account of it, well, being released in theaters. What they seemingly meant was that the pandemic meant a smaller payday from movie theaters, so they found an additional method of distributing the film that just so happened to free them of the obligation of splitting its revenue with the star, not to mention movie theater companies.
Appealing to the sympathies of the billions of people in the world who can’t even fathom the amount of money Johansson and her movie star peers earn for each film they make is a slightly smarter move. After all, a jury who decides whether she wins her case will likely consist of non-millionaires who may be biased against a woman who out-earns them by two or three digits. Regardless of the amount of money in question or the wealth of the individual, a deal is a deal, and a written contract is legally binding. The bottom line is that Disney failed to honor the agreed-upon contingencies (ie. a theatrical release). Not to mention, this argument expects us to forget that Disney itself is a conglomerate worth hundreds of billions of dollars, hardly a poor, innocent victim of a rich woman’s greed.
In fact, Disney’s mentioning of “the $20 million she has received to date” only broadens the scope in Johansson’s favor. She is a Tony winner, two-time Oscar nominee, and one of the highest-grossing actors in box office history. If she retired today, her entire family would be able to live a life of luxury for generations to come without having to work a day. So why nitpick over the extra $50 million or so she could have earned with a theaters-only release, cause a Hollywood-sized fuss, and risk the company dragging her name through the mud, as they so predictably did?
Let’s ask Taylor Swift. The singer-songwriter shot to international superstardom in 2008, making her the face of pop music. In recent years, she has fiercely advocated for artists’ rights after experiencing her own long and ultimately failed attempt to buy back her master recordings from Big Machine Label Group, which was acquired by music manager Scooter Braun in 2019.
Similarly, Johansson’s representatives attempted to reach out to Disney after the announcement of Black Widow’s hybrid release, which could possibly have amended their agreement and avoided the lawsuit altogether. But, like Swift, she was ignored.
Swift famously writes her own music, often from her own experiences. Scott Borchetta, founder of Big Machine, claims that she had the opportunity to own her masters, but, from both his account and Swift’s, the offer was contingent upon her staying with the company. Seeing as doing business with his company was what landed her in this situation, she was not willing to accept this condition, nor did she later accept Braun’s offer to buy back her music, a deal from which Braun would have profited and which came with its own condition: an NDA.
Her claim that Braun’s deal “stripped [her] of [her] life’s work” ignited a highly publicized feud not just between Swift and Braun but between their friends, loyalists, and supporters. Swift’s team shared her stance on artists’ rights while Braun’s defended his nice guy image. Braun himself didn’t comment, instead allowing his allies to take shots at the singer. His wife, Yael Cohen Braun, in an Instagram post referred to Swift as a “bully” and to her claim as a “temper tantrum,” telling her, “the world has watched you collect and drop friends like wilted flowers.” Justin Bieber, a client of Braun’s, suggested Swift's intention when expressing her disgust over the deal was “to get sympathy.”
Even after selling her masters to a private equity firm for $300 million in November 2020, Braun continues to profit off every CD and every stream of every song from every one of the six studio albums Swift recorded while she was signed with Big Machine, an agreement she first entered into at age 15.
Where Johansson is clearly in the right legally, Swift is morally right. Borshetta and Braun were under no legal obligation to sell her the rights to the songs she wrote and created, but they should have.
Both Swift and Johansson have incited high profile disputes, and both have been called by critics the “wrong person” to serve as the figurehead for the big picture arguments based on how much money they make. Two multi-millionaires are hardly the best representatives of the little guy trying to make it in the entertainment industry. It’s no skin off either of their noses if they don’t revolutionize the way artists and actors are paid.
Actually, it makes them the best voices for their causes. The millions of dollars at stake in each of their deals, while massive amounts to the average onlooker, would be a drop in the bucket of their wealth. Yes, they both have huge platforms and established fanbases they can use to garner support, but the fact that they have no skin in the game is their real strength. They don’t need the money, which proves they’re not doing it for themselves.
Disney is trying to hide behind the pandemic to defend its decision to release Black Widow on Disney+, but the issue was present even before the pandemic started, evident in Johansson’s agreement that the film have an exclusively theatrical release. Her suit claims she insisted upon this contingency when the streaming service was launched.
Streaming changed the game. Johansson is likely not the only one to have lost out on media companies’ failure to compensate talent fairly in the wake of the streaming evolution, but she is the first to draw the amount of attention to it that she has. Her claim opens the eyes of fellow actors, film distributors, and the public to an issue that extends beyond her: if the film industry is capable of adapting their content to this new source of distribution, then they can accommodate the role of actors into the changing environment and pay them, and other individuals who make their films possible, what they’re owed.
Record companies can stand to shake things up, too. Contracts that grant an artist’s masters to the labels that produce their music, such as the one Swift signed with Big Machine in 2004, are the norm in the music industry. Hers is far from the first battle to be fought by artists over the rights to their own music. There was the famous Paul McCartney v. Prince debacle in the 1980s, for example. In most cases, revenue is doled out to the label, the producers, the managers, and, last and least, the artists. It’s a system that assumes the performers are just lucky to be there, to have the opportunity to become the next Taylor Swift.
But streaming isn’t just for the movies—it’s changing the music game, too. Artists used to be entirely dependent on record companies to promote their music and get it into the hands of radio stations, but streaming sites and social media have allowed artists to release music independently. Working with a record company is still highly advantageous to an up-and-coming artist, but the other options available to them leave some breathing room for an artist to negotiate and retain the rights to their own music.
So, will wins for Swift and Johansson mean making two rich people richer? Yes. But it also starts a conversation. It gets the word out to young artists and actors that they should expect more from the publishers and executives they work with. And it sends a message to CEOs and big corporations: change with the times.
Since leaving Big Machine, Swift has signed with Universal Music Publishing Group in an agreement that guarantees her the rights to the music she creates with them, from Lover on. She is also in the process of re-recording her first six albums, an endeavor that began with Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in April and will continue with the scheduled release of Red (Taylor’s Version) in November.
“Hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation,” Swift wrote in a post. “You deserve to own the art you make.”
