Animal producer Pranay Reddy Vanga exposes Bollywood’s corporate booking trend; says, “The numbers announced for Animal are accurate numbers”
In a recent conversation, Pranay Reddy Vanga, the co-producer of the highly successful film Animal, shed light on a common practice in Bollywood – Corporate Bookings. While discussing the film’s exceptional performance, Pranay exposed the prevalent trend of inflating box office numbers through corporate bookings, a practice that Animal refrained from.

Animal producer Pranay Reddy Vanga exposes Bollywood’s corporate booking trend; says, “The numbers announced for Animal are accurate numbers” In an interview with iDream Media, Pranay Reddy Vanga addressed the accuracy of the reported numbers for Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. He emphasized the film's commitment to transparency by not engaging in the widespread industry trend of corporate bookings, a strategy often employed to artificially boost box office figures. Pranay stated, “The numbers announced for Animal are accurate numbers. Usually in Bollywood, they have a trend of corporate bookings which we haven’t done. Animal is yet to touch Rs 1000 crore mark.” This candid revelation provides insight into the mechanisms used by some filmmakers and producers to manipulate box office statistics, thereby creating a false narrative of a film's success. Animal, co-produced by Pranay Reddy Vanga, T Series, and Bhadrakali Pictures, has enjoyed significant success in various regions, including North India, the Telugu states, USA, and Canada. The film's refusal to partake in the practice of corporate bookings sets it apart, highlighting a commitment to transparency in reporting its genuine box office performance
While Pranay Reddy Vanga refrained from explicitly naming any specific producers or filmmakers involved in the trend, his disclosure sheds light on an aspect of the film industry that often goes unnoticed. The revelation underscores the need for greater scrutiny and transparency in reporting box office numbers, ensuring that the success of a film is accurately reflected without artificial inflation through corporate bookings.

T-Series wins Trade Mark Battle against M. World TV News
Tumblr media
Super Cassettes Industries Pvt. Ltd. filed a case of copyright infringement against M/S M. World TV News. The plaintiff is a Cassette Company under the brand T-Series. Whereas the defendant is a cable connection provider. The plaintiff came to know about the infringement through a telecast by the defendant’s cable service. Thereafter, the plaintiff sent a legal notice to restrain the activity but the same was refused by the defendants. The defendant continued to broadcast the copyrighted work. Hence, the present suit was filed by Super Cassettes against M/S M. World TV News.
The Copyright Act says that the copyright in a work would be infringed whenever any person does anything within the exclusive domain of the copyright holder. Evidence was presented on behalf of the plaintiff in support of copyright infringement. The testimony of the witnesses has gone unchallenged and therefore, it was proved that the defendant has infringed the copyright of the plaintiff.
The plaintiff company is engaged in the business of manufacturing and marketing audio cassettes, video cassettes, compact discs, television, CD player, etc. They do business under the brand T-Series. T-Series is a famous brand of Bollywood Music and Indi-Pop songs. Plaintiff is the owner of the large industry of copyright works comprising inter-alia of cinematographic films, sound recording, underlying musical and literary works.
The defendant is a ground cable carrying on the business of providing cable television services to various subscribers having operation throughout India including the State of Gujarat including Amreli under the logo/picture "M World TV Cinema", "M World TV HD Saregama" having around 2,50,000/- connections.
On June 2018, the plaintiff came to know that defendant through a cable TV Channel "M World TV Cinema", "M WorldTV HD Saregama" is broadcasting to the public audio-visual clips of various songs in which the plaintiff owned copyrights. Songs like "Bandook Meri Laila", "A Gentleman", “Sab Jhute 2 Piya Ayena", "Dil Chori Sada”, “Kehoon Tumhein", "Soniye Dil Nahi Lagda" etc. were communicated to the public without the prior permission/license from the plaintiff. The plaintiff alleged that the defendant with bad intention and ulterior motives have removed/overshadowed T-Series logo while broadcasting the contents on its channel. The plaintiff repeatedly notified defendants to purchase a license but they overlooked the given option. The defendant also neglected the Summon of Court.
Plaintiff prayed for a decree of an injunction to restrain the streaming of the infringed songs. Additionally, the plaintiff claimed punitive damages. According to the records of the court, a letter was sent to the defendant on 2nd June 2018, for obtaining a license to stream the songs of the plaintiff. Thereafter, the defendant continued to run the song without any license from 2nd June 2018 to 14th September 2018. On 6th September 2019, the Court declared that the defendant is guilty of infringement and an injunction was issued to restrain the cable company. Further, the Court directed the defendant to pay Rupees 10 lakhs as compensation for damages against the plaintiff.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan, has surged to box office success, grossing Rs. 100 crore in a record three days. With this incredible achievement, the horror-comedy joins a select group of Bollywood blockbusters such as Gadar 2 and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, all of which hit the Rs. 100 crore mark in three days. This achievement is yet another big milestone for Kartik Aaryan, confirming his status as one of the industry's most bankable performers.
Tumblr media
Kartik Aaryan joins an elite list. Crossing the Rs. 100 crore milestone in just three days is no easy feat, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 now ranks alongside some of the most successful box office releases of recent years. Only a few films have been able to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark in two days, while others, such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, have required three days. Kartik Aaryan's recent film has elevated him to the ranks of Bollywood's most successful actors.
Kartik Aaryan's Increasing Box Office Pull: Following the enormous success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Kartik Aaryan's portrayal of the eccentric and fearless Rooh Baba has become iconic. His ability to attract audiences with his charisma and humorous timing has helped the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise become a fan favorite. With Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, he once again demonstrates his box office brilliance, attracting audiences and creating excitement that has resulted in record-breaking earnings.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, with its blend of horror and comedy, has become a cult favorite in Bollywood. This installment, directed by Anees Bazmee, combines thrills, laughter, and suspense in a masterful way. The film's superb production standards, fascinating storyline, and Kartik Aaryan's charismatic performance have offered moviegoers an engaging cinematic experience that keeps them going back to the theater.
Rising above the competition in a star-studded year: In 2024, moviegoers have been given to a slew of significant films boasting great personalities and compelling plots, but Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has made its mark in this competitive field. With the year producing big hits like Jawan, Stree 2, and Animal, achieving the Rs. 100 crore club in three days demonstrates the strength of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa brand and Kartik Aaryan's expanding popularity. Competing with action-packed blockbusters and serious dramas, the horror-comedy has successfully maintained its position, attracting family audiences, children, and genre lovers.
Future of Kartik Aaryan's Career: Crossing the Rs. 100 crore mark in three days has cemented Kartik Aaryan's place among Bollywood's top talents. This achievement marks not only a victory for the Bhool Bhulaiyaa brand, but also a watershed moment in Kartik's career. Kartik, known for his versatility and ability to carry films on his shoulders, is rapidly gaining popularity, and his ability to draw audiences to theaters has reached new heights. With Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Kartik joins Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan in producing comparable blockbuster smashes. The success of this film strengthens Kartik's position in the industry, paving the way for larger projects and more demanding parts.

Trade experts discuss why Animal star Ranbir Kapoor is leaps and bounds ahead of his contemporaries: “You can add him to the league of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan”
Animal has become the fifth blockbuster of 2023 and the second blockbuster for Ranbir Kapoor after Sanju (2018). The actor is in a unique position – he has delivered 6 flops and a few underperforming films. But he has compensated for it with big hits.
Tumblr media
Since his debut film Saawariya (2007), Ranbir has made a place in the hearts of the audience. His charming looks and acting talent made him a performer to watch out for. Off-screen, he has an adorable-yet-badass image, which connected well with the audience. He’s absent from social media and keeps away from media when he doesn’t have a film to promote. But when he appears at events and interviews, he’ll make sure he becomes the talking point before disappearing into his cocoon or work. In today’s times, when actors are all over the place, it’s amazing how Ranbir Kapoor has managed to keep the intrigue alive.
All these factors would not have worked if he wasn’t a talented actor. As trade veteran Taran Adarsh rightly said a few weeks ago in an article for Bollywood Hungama, “You can find fault in his films. But you cannot find fault in Ranbir Kapoor’s performance.”
Ranbir Kapoor has dabbled in various genres and has always come out with flying colours. One can see that he has worked hard to get the character alive. Yet, it looks natural and this balance is hard to achieve. In Animal, he plays a ferocious character, making one forget about his acts in light-hearted films like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), Wake Up Sid (2009), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) etc. With this film, his stardom has got a boost and it’s clear that he’s now a bona fide superstar. The usage of the prefix ‘Superstar Ranbir Kapoor’ in the posters of Animal did raise some eyebrows. But all these cynics had to eat their words once Animal became a typhoon at the ticket window.
Animal is the second film of Ranbir Kapoor to cross the Rs. 300 crores mark and it’ll be Ranbir’s first film to cross the Rs. 500 crores mark, if all goes well. Besides Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol, he’ll be the third actor to enter the coveted club. Even Overseas, he has a loyal audience. Animal, in fact, was the number one film last weekend, surpassing Hollywood biggies like Napoleon and The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes with a worldwide gross of USD 42.17 million [Rs. 351.38 cr.]. If that’s not all, a viral story in Bollywood Hungama revealed that Ranbir Kapoor has collected Rs. 2018.02 crores from his 21 releases (and counting). He’ll soon surpass Aamir Khan’s cumulative figure of Rs. 2146.94 crores from 30 releases.
The newer lot of actors, interestingly, are far behind Ranbir Kapoor in terms of popularity and box-office record. Hence, is it fair to say that Ranbir Kapoor is leaps and bounds ahead of his contemporaries?
We asked trade experts to comment. Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar said, “Ranbir Kapoor is a special talent. The world knew it from his debut film, Saawariya. He was inconsistent in his choice of films. In my opinion, he tasted superstardom with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. That film was released on a non-holiday and managed to collect close to Rs. 180 crores. It speaks volumes about an actor to achieve this feat in his sixth year as an actor. His next film, Besharam (2013), also opened at Rs. 20-21 crores. Hence, he was already a star then.”
Vishek Chauhan added, “A lot of people might not agree but Barfi (2012) spoiled things for him. It took him on a different tangent. Had he stayed on the commercial tangent, he would have tasted this kind of success much earlier. He deserves every bit of it. He should be doing more of such films. Post-Covid, his choice of films has become more universal. They have become palatable to the common man. Even with Shamshera (2022), the intent was to make a commercially pleasing flick. He wants to play larger-than-life characters, which is very endearing be it Shamshera or Brahmastra or Animal. Even with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023), he carried the film on his shoulders.” The exhibitor said that he didn’t quite enjoy the film and added, “Had it starred Ranveer Singh instead of Ranbir, the film would not have even collected Rs. 50 crores.”
Tumblr media
Trade guru Komal Nahta said, “100% he’s ahead by leaps and bounds because he has now got mass patronage. Earlier, youngsters loved him. Now, the masses have embraced him with open arms and they’ll not let go of him. He has got a new fan following of unimaginable proportions because of Animal.”
Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, stated, “He’s the next superstar of Indian cinema. I always used to feel that agar Ranbir ko lambi race ka ghoda banna hai, then he should do action films. He was never convinced about it. He did action for the first time and look at the result.”
He continued, “I put him at par with Hrithik Roshan. But he has gone ahead of Hrithik. Hrithik has done 5-6 action films. Animal is perhaps Ranbir’s first action film and this is how it has performed. If he does 5-6 more action films, toh pata nahin yeh kahan se kahan nikal jaayega.”
Vishek Chauhan also stated on the same lines, “For the first time in his life, he has done this kind of action. And look how the masses have lapped it up. It shows that this man can do anything. He was just holding himself back. Isse better action Hindi cinema mein koi kya hi karega!”
Vishek also remarked, “Usually, actors begin their careers with commercial films, make their brand and then do unconventional films. With Ranbir, the process was in reverse. He proved his mettle as an actor and now he’s doing commercial films.”
He excitedly said, “It is so heartwarming to see a young actor rubbing shoulders with the big guns. You can add him to the league of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan.”
Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, who runs The Friday Cinema multiplex in Surat, revealed that Ranbir Kapoor has an insane fan following among the people in his region, “Brahmastra worked big time. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar was a surprise. I ran that film for many weeks. I was surprised to see the audience turning up in huge numbers even on weekdays in the fifth and sixth weeks though it was not a typical family film. And Animal has also stunned us as it’s ‘A’ rated. Yet, it’s doing blockbuster business. In short, his films always do well here.”
Tumblr media
What next? Trade experts advise Ranbir Kapoor to continue doing massy films. Vishek Chauhan opined, “I hope he doesn’t go back and sign a film with Imtiaz Ali. If his next film also has action and mass appeal, watch out for its opening! He should be careful that his next 2-3 films should appeal to both classes and the masses. If he takes care of this aspect, Ranbir can rewrite history!”
Raj Bansal said, “It’s upto him to take the call. He’ll never stick to doing only action films. He’ll keep experimenting like he’s been doing in the past. And that’s okay. If he does 1 or 2 action films out of 5, it’s fine. He has shown his range. If you get him the right script, he’ll deliver”
Komal Nahta agreed, “He should sign a couple of more such films.” He has high hopes for Animal’s sequel, Animal Park, “I can’t even imagine the earthquake Animal Park will cause. It will be huge.”

Defendant held to infringe copyright in sound recording, cinematograph film, etc. under Section 14, Copyright Act for broadcasting without license
Delhi High Court: A Single Judge Bench comprising of Manmohan, J. decreed a suit for injunction filed by the plaintiff against unauthorized broadcast of its copyright work by the defendant.
The plaintiff, Super Cassettes, is one of the largest music companies in the country which is the owner of a large repertoire of copyrighted works comprising cinematograph films, sound recording, etc. operating under the brand T-Series. The defendant, on the other hand, provided cable television services. It was the case of the plaintiff that in 2015, it came to know about the unauthorized and unlicensed use of its copyrighted works on the defendant’s cable television network. A notice was sent by the plaintiff to the defendant requesting it to obtain the requisite public performance license to make its broadcasts legal. However, no response was received.
The High Court was of the view that on a bare perusal of the screenshot of infringing recordings and the cue sheet showed that the defendant had infringed the sound recordings, cinematograph films and underlying literary and musical works belonging to the plaintiff’s repertoire of songs. As the defendant had broadcast the said work without license, it was held to have infringed plaintiff’s rights under Section 14(a)(iii), 14(a)(iv), 14(d)(iii) and 14(e)(iii) read with Section 51 of the Copyright Act, 1957. Resultantly, the suit was decreed in favour of the plaintiff and against the defendant. [Super Cassettes Industries (P) Ltd. v. Shivam Cable Network, CS (COMM) No. 37 of 2015, dated 03-10-2018]

T-Series clarifies rumours around Aashiqui franchise; says, “Our proposed film to be directed by Anurag Basu is neither Aashiqui 3 nor part of the Aashiqui franchise”
T-Series released an official statement denying the revival of Aashiqui, asserting that they would only be collaborating with the Bhatts for the film.
A couple of years ago, T-Series announced Aashiqui 3 and later it was reported that Kartik Aaryan will play the lead of the film and it was expected to be directed by Anurag Basu. However, recently the production house released an official statement asserting that they are not planning to revive the franchise. Furthermore, it also maintained that in case of such plans, they would only be collaborating with the Bhatts, who originally possess the rights of the film and that their upcoming venture is in no way related to the romantic drama.
Tumblr media
Their official statement read, “T-Series wishes to clarify that we are not presently involved in the development or production of Aashiqui 3. If and when Aashiqui 3 is initiated, T-Series and Vishesh Films / Mukesh Bhatt being joint owners in the franchise shall produce it jointly only. We categorically deny any ongoing rumours suggesting that Aashiqui 3 is being produced under a different title by T- Series. Our proposed film to be directed by Anurag Basu is neither Aashiqui 3 nor part of the Aashiqui franchise. We sincerely appreciate ongoing support and enthusiasm of our fans. Our commitment lies in consistently delivering top-notch content, and we eagerly anticipate future ventures with our esteemed partners.”
The first Aashiqui which released in 1990 became one of the biggest blockbusters of the year as its music continues to rule the charts even today. It marked the debut of Anu Aggarwal along with Rahul Roy, both of whom catapulted to  overnight fame owing to immense success of the film. The second instalment released over two decades later, in 2013, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, yet again with music and the film, both enjoying a great run.

REVEALED: 27 minutes of ‘adult’ content removed from Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal by Censor Board in Bangladesh
The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal is a huge blockbuster despite the ‘A’ rating and excessive run time of 3 hours and 23 minutes. The film was riddled with disturbing violent scenes, a few intimate sequences and moments and dialogues that shocked the audience. This shock value along with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s expert direction made the film worth watching for many moviegoers. There were reports of moviegoers watching Animal repeatedly especially for its adult content.
Tumblr media
Hence, it’ll be surprising for many to know that these shocking scenes and dialogues are absent in the version of Animal which has been shown in the cinema halls of Bangladesh. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The Bangladesh Film Censor Board made it clear that the movie cannot release unless certain ‘adult’ scenes were chopped off. The makers agreed. In the process, some 27 minutes of the content got censored. The run time of Animal in Bangladesh is 2 hours and 56 minutes.” The source continued, “As expected, the audience wasn’t happy like their Indian counterparts as the censored version of Animal was devoid of the shock value. Moreover, it had a late release in the country, on December 7. In India and elsewhere, it arrived in cinemas on December 1.”
Another source said, “Even Salaar, rated ‘A’ in India, hasn’t got a release in Bangladesh. It remains to be seen if it can be released next week there. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, however, had a day and date release in Bangladesh as the rest of the world.”
Bollywood Hungama was also the first one to report that in India, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) handed over the ‘A’ certificate to the makers of Animal after they removed close-up shots in an intimate scene and ‘suitably’ modified cuss words. A few more changes were also implemented which thankfully, didn’t affect the narrative or impact.
Bollywood Hungama also exclusively reported that Pathaan became the first Bollywood film to be released in Bangladesh. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer released in the neighbouring country on May 12 this year followed by Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan on August 27.
Besides Ranbir Kapoor, Animal also starred Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Triptii Dimri.

Triptii Dimri reveals Sandeep Reddy Vanga created safe space with only four people during intimate scene shoot with Ranbir Kapoor for Animal: “I could say cut as well”
“There were many, many discussions that happened before we shot it,” Triptii Dimri said in an interview.
Riding high on the success of the newly released action thriller Animal, Triptii Dimri has earned herself a major fan following. The actress has stolen the show despite being a surprise element in the film. Starring opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the film, the actress had to film an intimate scene with the lead actor where both of them had to strip down. But, the actress asserts that it was filmed in a safe space and both Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Ranbir ensured she was comfortable to shoot it.
Tumblr media
“There were many, many discussions that happened before we shot it,” Triptii told Indian Express. “The day he offered me the film, Sandeep sir had categorically told me, ‘Hey, this is the scene I want to shoot; I am looking at it this way. I promise you that it won’t be vulgar, that it will be aesthetically shot. But I have to look for your comfort. So if you are not comfortable, we will think of a different way to do it. But you need to tell me honestly.’”
The actress said that she did take her time to give her the go-ahead for the scene. She recalled that a similar instance occurred during her OTT movie Bulbbul. “When you sign a project, you do it with the understanding of what you are getting into. The rape scene in Bulbbul was more traumatic, this wasn’t. There I had to leave behind myself to portray that on screen. When you sign a film, you have to make sure you give your 100 percent.”
Recalling the shoot day, she said, “Ranbir made sure I was comfortable. There was obviously that hiccup, I was nervous, but he made me feel very comfortable. There were literally four people on set. Me Ranbir, the DoP Amit Roy and Sandeep sir. Even the monitors were shut to make sure I am in a comfortable space and doing well. Everything was taken care of. When you are made to feel that safe and comfortable, then you feel good. It felt like a safe space, of working with people who respect you and the process. Safe sets are the most important. I was told that the set is closed and if I feel the need to stop, I could say cut as well. That’s what gave me immense confidence as well.”
Animal has minted Rs. 434.02 crores at the box office in India.
