Less of a shop update and more of a quality of life update. Had this custom etched tip jar made to have at shows with me so even if folks might not be able to afford something in the moment, they can still offer a buck or two in appreciation of my work 💜

*Custom glasswork done by MCEtching, the QR code pictured links to his Ko-Fi page, where he also has a shop of his own. He makes other items besides just jars and glassware (he's been doing jewelry lately), like the lovely worry stone as seen in my hand. 💜

Got into glass etching recently. Only thing I'm unsure about is what kind of background to give it - i tried some blue magazine paper, but it wasn't quite right? I might try painting the back black.

A Series of Things!
To prove to myself I have been doing more than just sit here, here's some stuff I have made with my own two hands!
Tumblr media
This ball of t-shirt yarn is about six shirts! I'm going to turn the braid into a rug and hopefully the combo of pale blue, navy, and teal will still look ok when it's all sewn together!
Tumblr media
Baked a handful of polymer clay beads for the first time in forever. I used up some old practice canes and ended up with a nice light pink/salmon pink marble!
Tumblr media
And I finally got around to etching again! I solved part of the executive function problem I was having by finding a sort of tracing paper that is specifically made for glass! You can make whatever design you want and it just leaves a nice little waxy line behind!
This is perfect because all the designs I wanted to make are very complex which was making a wall in my brain because I couldn't figure out how to get the pattern to the bottle. But now I can!
This one is a nice little cherry blossom around the bottom left corner of this sake bottle, which is kind of square, so it works pretty well! I'm also excited to work on some wedding favor bottles now that I can trace the exact font I want!

Absolute shit-tier photos of etching on a wine glass I did a few years ago.
Can't get better photos because I no longer have it in my possession, so we're all stuck with this garbage.

The next step, that I did yesterday and today, was to put my stencils on the vases. I did half where the whole vase, except for the Maltese cross will be frosted.
Tumblr media
And half where only the Maltese cross is frosted.
Tumblr media
Then I sprayed all my vases with a frosted glass spray paint. This gives it the etched look, without all the effort of actually doing the etching.
Tumblr media
Now to peel everything off and see what it looks like. I hope it worked how I wanted it to. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Gift art for @kestus of his OC/'sona Deimos sandblasted and etched into a mug. Original line-art done by @krythea-art and you can check it out here.
I imported the line-art into Inkscape and turned into a vector file so I could scale it to fit the mug and cut it out of vinyl. Weeded the outlines as normal for sandblasting (the brighter areas), and re-masked them with nail polish after sandblasting to protect them from the etchant, since past experience has shown it tends to "dull" the sandblasted finish to something smoother and less bright. Secondary weeding around the nail polish trying to keep crisp edges but also not peel any of it off took a while. The horns, beak and wing-looking spike things I etched with a newer bottle of etching paste, and the chest fluff and ear insides I used some older paste that left a more mottled finish to resemble the texture of fur. Scrubbing all the nail polish off at the end took aaages, but the end result was so very much worth the work.
This is probably my favourite of all the etched/sandblasted mugs I have made so far because look at it it turned out so good aaaAAaaAAAaAA. I picked up the mug at a thrift store and was just waiting for the right project to use it, because it's a hella cool-looking mug (and probably capable of bashing in skulls — got a real solid, weighty base on it), and it deserved an equally cool purpose. So glad it ended up in Kest's hands.
