A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 15: PAINFUL RE:BAKE - Episode 11: Taking Your Voice Into Account
Tumblr media
Sakyo: …
[Phone notification blip]
Omi Fushimi: Good luck on your performance, Sakyo-san Juza Hyodo: blow their socks off taichi nanao: cheering for u sakyo-nii!! BANRI.: don’t get nervous and mess it up, old man Azami: that glowing skin of yours is all the preparation you need
Sakyo: These brats…
Sakyo Furuichi: I’ll just do whatever I can.
Sakyo: … Phew.
Sakyo: (Well, considering how early I got here and had my makeup done, I’m probably nervous.)
Sakyo: (I may act like an elder within the troupe, but the moment I step outside, I’m just another newbie.)
Sakyo: (I get nervous at a new workplace, even at my big age.)
Sakyo: (Then, I’ll act the way a newbie would, and make the most of this chance…)
Sakyo: (I’m fully prepared, and my skin is glowing thanks to Bon’s pack.)
Sakyo: (All that’s left is to go for it.)
-
Staff: Aaand start.
Sakyo: “It was Okada-sensei’s car. I’m certain.”
Sakyo: “I was the last one to make sure the door was locked that day.”
Staff: And cut.
Director: Hmmm… Let’s try one more time.
Staff: Aaand… start!
Sakyo: “It was Okada-sensei’s car. I’m certain.”
Sakyo: “I was the last one to make sure the door was locked that day.”
Staff: Cut–
Director: HmmMM….
Sakyo: Would you like me to change my acting?
Director: Naahh, your acting’s not a problem…
Director: This is tough. The tone of your voice makes these lines stand out too much. Let’s change your role to one without lines.
Director: You over there, can I have you say these lines?
Extra: Yes.
Sakyo: …
-
Staff: All final checks ok!
Extra: Thank you very much!
Sakyo: Thank you very much.
Sakyo: …
Sakyo: (I wasn't prepared to be dropped so easily after all the preparation I went through.)
Sakyo: (I know the film industry’s a harsh place, but to think I’d get dropped because of my voice… What could I have done differently here?)
Sakyo: (Rehearsals took longer because of me, so I should apologize to the staff before leaving–)
???: Ah, you, do you have a moment?
Sakyo: ?
???: Too bad this one was a fluke. And you finally got a role with lines.
???: Like the director said, your voice makes lines stand out, so it’s not suitable for the role of an extra.
Sakyo: … This is not a part of myself I was ever conscious of.
???: … Actually, can you make your voice even deeper?
Sakyo: (What’s a role I had a deep voice for…)
Sakyo: “‘Tis an honor to meet you. I go by the last name of Kazama, first name’s Ginji. I look forward to working with you.”
???: Hmm, hmm. That’s good. Yes, good.
???: What’s your agency?
Sakyo: I belong to a theater company, but am otherwise a freelancer.
Matsui: All the better. My name’s Matsui, here's what I do—
Sakyo: ——

GtK ending aftermath (ramblings again)
GinMori brainrot obviously! but hope it's a fun read
⚠️⚠️unedited, also NO ONE in this conversation is a native english speaker (some parts were translated or held in other languages as well)⚠️⚠️
KongMengDo: I want to see something like that
Ginji-san, he said he let Morita go to test him... but in reality, he's been keeping an eye on him the whole time, not always thorough (like when the car showed up just in time to pick Morita up at Kamui)... but on the day Morita announced his retirement he decided to let Morita go… I want to see Ginji in his study, burning surveillance reports on Morita with a lighter and throwing it in the ashtray.
Ginji feels empty after throwing away all the traces of Morita that he has, but he doesn't regret it, until one day he finds Morita's signature on a crumpled receipt in a cupboard at home, and after fiddling with it for a while, he puts it in his wallet. But as time goes by, the letters on the receipt start to fade...
When Ginji has his hands full, Ryohei takes the card out of Ginji's wallet for him, and is about to throw it away when a white piece of paper comes out, but Ginji says, "Leave it be."
"Why? It doesn't have anything written on it..."
"It doesn't matter, keep it."
"Okay..."
And then later on, if something happened to his wallet or something, and he ended up losing the scrap of paper, Ginji would have a rare smile on his face...
On the other hand, after Morita leaves Ginji, he misses him terribly and searches frantically for any trace of him, any remnants of his things, but Morita doesn't have any of Ginji's things.
Morita is devastated. Who were we to each other, Ginji? Did I ever have your heart? We used to share the bed and even lived together, but as soon as I decided to leave, everything scattered like a mirage... I feel like I dreamed a false dream... From the beginning, the dream of becoming “gold” and the idea of having a country were all illusions…
All of those dreams were not for me. I'm...
Morita is shocked to see Ginji with Ryohei... < I want to see this, and I think this is some kind of soap opera....
Akira: aah I really enjoy this taste yes... because actually it was such a short time they spent together, a few years, 3 years at most? if Morita encountered no traces of Ginji when he left Morita to test him, then Mori tried hard to return to his side and achieved some unbelievable heights in the meantime... he spent at least a few weeks just listening in at the restaurants, then came up with elaborate plans... but I bet Morita had times when he asked himself "what if I was just fooled? What if Ginji doesn't care if I even achieve anything? then I'll become a villain for my own sake only"
but now it was Morita who left Ginji by his own decision... I bet it feels like he went out of the fog that was there for at least a few years, and Morita is lost because of the clear view... What would I do if I was only good at navigating the murky waters before?
actually Morita is good at a lot of things, but I want him to think that he was only good at what Ginji praised him for hehehhe at least for the first few years he'd have to relearn how is it to trust your own judgement to navigate civilian life... Kamui trauma on top of it
So of course the more Morita spends time without Ginji the more the underground and the villains' side, the whole night business, feels like a weird dream... the green jacket and suit pants torn in the Kamui accident, maybe he threw those away as well...
So one day I hope Morita would wake up realising he doesn't believe Ginji was an actual person in his life... and get scared by the thought. Morita would try searching for anything that reminds him of the time they spent together, a postcard, a letter, any old photo...
of course there wasn't anything left and by the time Morita is out of breath in the middle of his apartment, he'd have tears in his eyes, after all you can't chase the dream or misty fog after it's long gone
"What was I even doing? All the luxury restaurants and hotels, we drank and ate and spent time together, but we avoided all the important things... now I have no trace of such an important person from my past left" and maybe it'd feel crushing
even if Morita decided long ago to not search for Ginji again, he didn't want to pretend it all didn't happen, he wanted a proof that his heart was broken not without a reason, not because of the dream he had seen, but because of something he actually held in his hands once--
ah, but I know the thing that Ginji left for Morita~ maybe it's cruel but it's true, the only things that will never go away... the scars
because wouldn't it be fun to see Morita realise, in the shower, out of blue, or getting dressed up, that the stripes over his hands and legs, even if they don't hurt at all now, are something left as a proof on his body? ah, did the knife over his heart leave the scar as well? hehehe
I'd want Morita to hazily trace his fingers over the old wounds and try so hard to remember the pain they brought, because it somehow returned the good memories alongside it, that he somehow tried to convince himself that he could still smell roses alongside antiseptic as well...
I would really love to see Morita struggling, not only to live by himself, but bringing this into new relationships too... if Morita were to have a one night stand or even date someone, wouldn't he be weird about it? sitting down at the edge of the bed after the night, smoking and tracing his scars, thinking of a person long gone from his life?
I would really like to see Morita change his cigarette brand to Ginji's after a while hehehe... chasing a dream so distant you forget if maybe you created that dream by yourself in the first place... ah I want Morita to feel heartbroken sometimes on the worst days he has;;
KongMengDo: Oh, right... Morita has marks left from Gin-san on his body that he can never lose! I forgot about that for a moment haha Even if there comes a moment when the time he spent with Gin-san feels like a dream, the deep scars will remain on Morita to remind him that it was never a dream.
Ah, this is so good! The traces of Morita left for  Ginji will be easy to fade, but the traces of Gin-san left on Morita will never be erased. I think this contrast is really good!!!
Akira: Actually, I like that Morita wasn't depicted with scars not even once, because then we can deduce Morita left empty-handed “dry from the water” into civilian life... but that's not true, he went through at least two massacres, he has bullet wounds and cuts...
poor Morita who was avoiding his scars when he just got them, because they brought unwanted thoughts to him when they were fresh, now were his only treasure
KongMengDo: ahhh... A relationship that can only be remembered with hurt and pain... it's so cruel and so good...
Akira: and then Ryouhei! oh I would like to see Morita jealous or angry... I'd be a nice parallel if he'd see Ginji with Ryouhei on the horse races, freeze in his place and lose Ginji in the crowd, but when Morita comes to his senses, he's so angry?
I want to see him throwing things on the ground again, stomping, but now cursing not the betting tickets, but Ginji he just saw. Because even if it's naive, wouldn't Morita hope Ginji was left as heartbroken as him? I bet Morita, who didn't move on, would wish for Ginji to never move on too
KongMengDo: It's really nice to imagine Morita being jealous of Ryouhei. It's especially good that Morita doesn't actually realise that Ryouhei is a mere tool to Gin-san. When Ginji realises that Morita is misunderstanding their relationship, will he try to explain it to him? That Morita is more important to him than Ryouhei? Probably not, because he's honouring what Morita said when he was leaving... I don't think he'll make Morita regret leaving him
Akira: Gin-san is so generous ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
ah but I like the scenario of Morita calling out Ginji's name by an accident... I like that he'd see Ginji, call for him, and see him turn head, but his hand is draped over the shoulder of some other young man... aah I bet Morita would be furious
maybe they'll agree to a short cafe break together somewhere nearby... maybe Morita had a lot to say to Ginji before, but now his thoughts are scattered... and Ginji would look so nonchalant, smoking before the cup of coffee, not raising any questions and starting a talk- it was so unhelpful to Morita, he only started to assume that Ginji sat there in front of him because Morita asked to, because Ginji just indulges him with a favour - not because he wants to have a short conversation with Morita after such a long time of course...
when actually Ginji would be smoking nervously hahaha I want Ginji to be so out of place, he'd try harder to appear casual, maybe leaning off the table, elbow on the chair back, cigarette between his fingers that cover his mouth- everything, but looking at the Morita... so he'd miss Morita glaring at him in fury in return hahaha
ah would be cruel if Morita's first question after years of separation will be "Who is this guy?"
I want Ginji to be taken aback by the voice but also not miss the anger in Morita’s voice-- and I want Ginji to snicker and finally see Morita's expression... and smile, because he really missed Morita, and now he was graced with such a rare view? Morita was rare to be jealous before and now he's changed but he's still the same in some ways too
I actually want them to bicker haha I want Ginji to play himself over and nudge Morita with vague answers about Ryouhei, so Morita would have no choice, he won’t remember anything he actually wanted to say to Ginji when they just met... and then they'll separate on such a bad note? hehe, I want them both to regret their decisions during the small meeting... I want them both to make incorrect conclusions about each other too...
"Ginji just used me, he doesn't care about me, maybe he never did"
"Morita is as naive as ever, no wonder he retired so soon"
But after that the anger and frustration will disappear slowly... they'd both be stuck with realisation they are just fooling themselves with short lived emotions... and the precious time they had together in that small cafe... they wasted it. Like they wasted a lot of the time they had together before, doing so many things and visiting so many places, but avoiding the most important things right until the end... not confronting their own feelings about each other... and now they did that again. Maybe it'll bring the smallest smiles to them to think about the irony of that... and maybe hope their next short meeting in the crowd would not be so embarrassing as if they're the divorced old couple haha-- I hope they'll at least do a good handshake next time and smile at each other heh
Morita's blood boiling because of Ryouhei presence is amazing... ah but maybe even if he'd think to accept Ryouhei being at Ginji's side, he'd still be bitter and ignore the guy hehhe

Alright here you all go....
P300 "Well then, hang in there, Kasuga!" "Bye-bye Kasuga, be well!" "Improve yourself! Don't break your body!" The Ayakashi in Tenjin-ya all called out to Kasuga who was already in an airship and has collected all of her things.
I gave Kasuga a present, "Tummy-captivating Recipes" cookbook, food that are both easy to make and delicious.
"Kasuga, with this, slowly but surely you can capture the heart of your childhood friend whom you're getting married to."
"Waaah, thanks Aoi-chan. This is so helpful, because I just suck at cooking."**
Kasuga with her smiling face. That face that lights up the sky like the blinding sun, thinking about the fact that I won't be seeing that smile anymore made me feel so lonely. Without realizing it, my tears started flowing.
While at it, I pushed the box filled with assortments of "Hell-juu" and Black Sugar Manjuu to her.
"Here, take this with you. Its flavors will bring you nostalgia."
"Hey, Aoi-chan, stop crying."
Kasuga being Kasuga, she made Chiaki-san hold her belongings and went over to me, wiping my tears away with her sleeves.**
T/N:  I found my opportunity to plug this in lol *sings* You suck at cooking yeah you totally suck. *end of song* I'm sorry guys, that's my jam sometimes, I'm not calling you bad cooks, the song just rolls off the tongue. Plus the videos are really good too, kewl effects lol not sponsored btw
Also, kimonos have long-@@$ sleeves so Kasuga can do that lol
P301
"Home's not that far away, we'll meet again for sure."
"What's that?"
"Both of us will soon get married to a Hachiyo. Somehow, that's the threads of fate that binds us together."
The threads of fate, that binds us together.
Wait just a minute. I'm not there yet...
We both looked down on our hands, they were shaking.
"Bye-bye! Bye-bye, Tenjin-ya! Goodbye, everyone! My Tenjin-ya!"
This bright young girl's voice echoed everywhere, and the airship starts lifting up high, high into the bright blue sky.
Up until the end I was sobbing, but O-ryo, standing beside me, wasn't even crying at all.
She just looked indifferent all throughout the whole thing. And then a victorious smile popped in her face.
And after that she looked more at ease.
It seemed that somehow, she seemed more determined about something, and wore that in her demeanor.
That's strange. That bottle opener made out of ice that she always has with her, could it have gotten lost?
--Ring.
P302
That sleeping water from the farthest north, it's crystal-clear sound, Kasuga was scattering it from above the airship that she's in.
And when I just realized it, Kasuga's image has disappeared into the sky above, and I can't see it anymore.
Far, far away, where the clear, blue sky has taken them in, way up high.
And, as if looking over everyone in Kakuriyo, the seasons have changed.
Goodbye, Kasuga.
I'm looking forward to seeing that again, the day when I see that shining and vibrant smile again.
x-x-x-x
Afterwards, about a month has passed.
Just as Ginji-san have planned, shortly after the Autumn Festival, "Hell-juu" was marketed  commercially.
Tenjiya's as well as Gintengai's souvenir shops have started selling this steamed manjuu, and thanks to being autumn as well as the increasing number of tourists to Kimon, it got record-breaking sales all throughout.
Whether or not it's going to be a long-time best selling product, what matters right now is that it's a huge success.
More than anything, hats off to everyone at the Tenjinya basement workshop, on how quickly the planning and manufacturing of this souvenir product was made.
Everyday the iron mice at Tenjin-ya's basement are working hard to catch up with the huge production volume, without getting fluttered or disorganized while doing their job.
Even more surprising, is that the manjuu with cream cheese spread and no bean paste sells better than the "egg variant" one which has bean paste in it and was labelled as "proper manjuu". I wonder if it's because little by little, in Kakuriyo
P303
the demand for cheese has been increasing, as well as the fact that it's just gaining popularity, and that is its appeal, a report worthy of being sent to the emperor.
It might be first of its kind, and difficult, but it was a huge success.
Its sales was a hit, and Byakuya-san said that pretty soon huge confection companies as well as local ones and even ordinary folk would start putting in "cheese" flavored souvenir products  and other similar items in their own shelves.
It delights me to think that while it was borne out of me, the fruits of my labors are finally showing up.
Along with a huge sense of accomplishment, it also feels very exciting.
But not by any means was I able to do this on my own, as I relied on many others too.
Kasuga's christening it with "Hell-juu" was surprisingly simple and easy to understand, and the fact that it permeated easily into the people's psyche was also an important factor to its success. And marking the manjuu's outer crust with the deformed version of the hellish flower, "red spider-lily"** helped make it even cuter and more adorable.
Aside from that, there were many wise sages in Tenjin-ya who gave such good advice, feedback, experiences, and other help that greatly helped in Hell-juu's product development, properly executing its mass production and moving onto sales.
But there was one thing though, a mishap that Ginji-san and I made. I'm going to tell you that right now.
We tried making other limited edition variants of "Hell-juu" for Autumn, and some of them didn't sell so well or sales were very slow.
Those were the "sweet potato" and the "apple" flavors. Diced sweet potato were kneaded into the dough to make it into that flavor, just like how we normally do it, and we wrapped the dough all around the apple jam for the "apple" flavor, but I just couldn't understand why, at a level being so perplexing, that from the very first day these two didn't sell so well, and likely the only thing would be due to them being very unfamiliar.
T/N: You've probably have seen this flower a lot, in graveyards in anime. It's very prominent in Hell Girl. The plant is actually planted in graves so animals won't dig up corpses, like a deterrent.
P304
But why did the "cheese" sell so well?
As handmade sweets from stores, the other flavors were well-received...
When these came out in the shop's show window, despite the packaging that was supposed to make or break a confection's sale, the product itself looks different from what it was supposed to be.
It was for that reason that the "apple" flavor was to be pulled off from the shelves only after a week, and when that day was finally decided on, after work hours Ginji-san brought some mountain apple liquor to drink.
It was an awful time, and the thing about drinking mountain apple wine was that it helped in forgetting things...
Even though this was an exceptional failure, this information is going to be very important for our next success. Those are the words that Ginji-san shared to me.
Why did this failure came to be I have no idea, and overnight I got so depressed that I needed someone to ponder this with, along with some gentle consoling.
x-x-x
There is also one more thing I just realized.
Odanna-sama, as of now, hasn't returned from his business trip to Youto, and he has been absent from Tenjin-ya.
Also, beforehand, Odanna-sama and I had a quick chat.
We got our hands on some rumors, that apparently there will be a meeting of all the Hachiyos at the end of the year holidays, it was going to be the very first "overnight meeting", and the Ayakashi King has summoned me to attend.
P305
"Say, Ginji-san? Odanna-sama hasn't come back yet? It's already been a week, is he alright? I heard from Ritsuko-san before that the Imperial Court is a scary place."
"Yes, it seems that he hasn't returned as of late... But no need to worry, the O-niwaban's Saizou-san is with him. Also I am receiving messages from Odanna-sama everyday."
"I wonder.. is Odanna-sama alright?"
"Yes, for sure."
I see. Since the beginning he was always out on a business trip, I think...
One week goes by, then two weeks, Odanna-sama's absence in Tenjin-ya is still going on... as the days go on, I have stopped getting any updates or messages.
The upper brass of Tenjin-ya started to get flustered.
A messenger was dispatched to Youto, and despite having hopeful news, it turns out that the Ayakashi King ordered Odanna-sama that he cannot go back to Tenjin-ya, and to only wait for further information to be announced by a messenger from the Imperial Court.
"What does that mean?"
"For sure, while he was doing major work in the Imperial Court, Odanna-sama ran into an accident."
The management grew even more worried and started panicking. Of course, that includes me.
I don't get how this happened...
The Odanna-sama that I talked to in Yugao back then, I wonder... there's no way that wasn't a premonition.
P306
There were also other matters concerning the Imperial Court, there were things and plans happening behind the scenes that nobody knows about, things that we were not cautious of and can't do anything about, here in Tenjin-ya. Byakuya-san mentioned something about an unforeseen threat that is about to arrive.
During the first ten days of December, there came a huge shake-up.
That envoy from the Imperial Court paid a visit to Tenjin-ya.
And that envoy, somehow, as far as I'm concerned and made aware of... Is that.. Raijuu.
x-x-x
"Tenjin-ya, isn't this frightening, confusing, utterly incomprehensible and non-sensical?"
"..."
We caught wind of a disturbance, and a bit before opening hours, Ginji-san and I saw something over by the front desk lobby, Raijuu with his hateful and horrible smile was being surrounded by the management, all the while speaking while bearing a calm demeanor.
"In the end, with your Odanna gone, you're all just lowly businesspeople. I hold strong political powers over the Imperial Court, and you all cannot do anything about it.
"Ehhh shut up. If you have some use for Tenjin-ya, first of all, if that's the case, stop pushing us around like you always do!"
Akatsuki's earnest yet fierce-looking face wasn't complying, and yet, while laughing so loudly, Raijuu started climbed up Tenjin-ya's grand staircase.
P307
Clink,clank.
The golden decorations attached all throughout his body, these made striking, echoing sounds as he climbed up the stairs.
In that moment, when he took a glimpse of me briefly, with that disgusting tongue of his, Raijuu started licking his lips.
As I unfortunately started recalling all sorts of traumatic memories, Ginji-san stood in front of me in silence.
"Haven't you comprehended it yet? The Ayakashi King himself sent me to go here, under his command."
"Excuse me?"
"That's what I said, That is what the Ayakashi King said. That is what the important announcement to all of you is about."
Abruptly, coming from the upper stairs where he just walked up to, he turned around and faced everyone, leisurely looking down on all of us as he smugly smiled a wide-toothed smile.
"From now on, by any means, I am now Tenjin-ya's "Odanna-sama"** and not that ogre god anymore!"
Anybody could've been astonished by those words, we couldn't believe our ears.
Odanna-sama... That guy cannot become Tenjin-ya's Odanna-sama...
It can't be, what the heck is this Raijuu talking about... I don't understand what it means.
"S--stop saying such nonsense! Who the hell gave you the right to say such things?"
"But. That's. Why. I already told you, MY words ARE as good as the Ayakashi King's, Ginji-kun. Well, whatever,
T/N: Odanna-sama is not Odanna-sama's actual name, it's a position, like how he is the big boss of Tenjin-ya. So the term "Odanna-sama" can be used by anybody. It's just that Odanna-sama, here and in the anime, his name isn't revealed yet. (I know what his name is, but that's gonna be revealed in a future volume lololol)
P308
at any rate, to us, we have formally conveyed it to you. That ogre god, Kakuriyo was so shocked to know that he has been holding onto some very important secret. Better than that, I conclude that I have no choice but to take care of that Hachiyo's position now."
"An important....secret?"
All of us grew even more and more disturbed.
In this place where Odanna-sama isn't around, something important is decidedly and conveniently being exposed.
This strange circumstance being told about, just about everything is getting chaotic.
"Those speechless-looking faces are the most amusing, don't they? It's such an elevated sight worth seeing, now I wanted to eat some liquor with some side dishes. Say... You over there, why are you trying to scurry and hide away from me, Skilled Cook Aoi-chan?"
My name was called out, and it made me tremble.
I clenched my fists and pulled them closer to my chest, as I glared angrily at Raijuu.
"Hee-hee. Do I.. scare you?"
"What you're calling scary.. it is rather creepy."
"Bwahahaha! Well, that's fine, I don't mind that kind of reaction. Buuuu~t I think THIS thing here will scare you even more. No.. More likely that, as far as YOU'RE concerned, what this means for you is deliverance, possibly."
Raijuu's face looks somewhat amused, and gleefully takes out something from his breastpocket, he pulled out a box.
"Ta-dah~! What is this~?"
P309
I remember that box. That... That is...
"Hee-hee, a while ago I snooped around Odanna's room, and I found a rea~lly awesome item. It's connects Tsubaki Shirou and Odanna, it's the debt contract~"
"Oh...."
I see. When I first came to Tenjin-ya, that was shown to me, I fell in despair...
In grampa's own handwriting, a debt contract, in which he gave away his granddaughter for payment!
"Hee-hee. Since that Odanna is no longer here, this doesn't mean anything anymore, does it?"
Raijuu pulled it out of the box, and brandished it up high.
Without realizing it, I yelled "Stop!" and tried to reach it with my hand.
But, after that bastard heard my voice, he tore the piece of paper in half, and his loud laugh drowned out the sounds of the paper being ripped apart.
"Bwahahahaha! Yep, there you go. Aoi-chan, now you're no longer Odanna's fiancee, it's now nothing. Now that I have set you free, it's fine if you express your gratitude to me~"
After that he scattered all the tiny pieces.
The tiny pieces of paper fluttered down, down, down the staircase. Even though to me, that thing was something that forcibly tied me down, in that moment I felt attacked and I had a sense of loss, and even I couldn't believe it myself, it was a very important thing.
"A...Aoi-san..!"
P310
I was light-headed and unable to think, and without a moment's delay, Ginji-san came to help me stay upright.
But with the status quo, nobody dared to nor even had the gall to say anything. It was everyone's at everyone's pace. While wearing his smug, victorious smile, I was shocked as I looked at Raijuu who tore up, shredded into pieces and threw away the debt contract.
But...
"Go die, you moron."
We thought we heard this lethargic noise from behind Raijuu...
"Ahhhhh!"
Raijuu suddenly fell off the stairs and rolled down indignantly.
From where Raijuu's body used to stand, there he was, with a hard, cold stare, Byakuya-san.
Somehow, this guy seemed to have violently kicked Raijuu off the stairs. Underneath the stairs, Raijuu has suffered a minor injury and was licking his own blood off.
Tenjin-ya's hot water chimney has finally erupted with so much killing intent.
"Gaaah. Well, sure enough, Byakuya the white demon has came out. You're intending to kill me!"
"What are you talking about, I really do wanted to kill you, so much."
Byakuya suddenly closed his fan that was usually spread across his mouth, and started making a stabbing motion with it.
Along with that smooth, slicing sound, that reflexively makes every Tenjin-ya employee straighten their backs,
P311
Byakuya looked over, and with increasingly cold eyes stared down at Raijuu.
"You bastard, how dare you stand in front of my face here in our Tenjin-ya? Why, I never recalled ever inviting you in. Go to the ravine outside and keep hurling yourself in there for a million times until you die!"
"But I already fell down just now, didn't I?"
Lightly scathed by Raijuu's words, Byakuya-san took one step down the stairs, and picked up all the scattered pieces of the debt contract. While laughing scornfully, he held these tightly.
"Regarding the circumstances of our Odanna-sama here at Tenjin-ya, it is rather unexpected, and even if whatever happened over at the Imperial Court was indeed true, knowing you, you have once again completely showed how utterly stupid you really are. So stop laughing."
"Wha...t?"
"This debt contract is fake. The real thing is hidden somewhere, where you'll never be able to find it."
"Huh?"
Nobody reacted more strongly, than I did.
When Byakuya-san saw my reaction, he responded with a "Oh?", looked into my eyes slightly surprised at my face, and started giggling.
"Oh, Aoi, I feel assured by your courageousness."
"Wait, wait, wait that's not it, it's not like that!"
Finally, my usual reactions have come out at last.
Ginji-san too, at some point smoothed down his own chest with a sigh of relief.
P312
But over here, Raijuu's face instantly became disagreeable.
"Huh? Byakuya, I always thought that I was superior, was I wrong? From now on, you'll be my underling. That's because I have now become the master of Tenjin-ya."
"You dumbass. I don't care how many times the Ayakashi King keeps putting out decrees, whatever the hell you're saying, know that it is worthless."
Byakuya-san pulled out something from inside his sleeves.
What the heck... That looks like an impressive silk pouch. He opened it confidently, and pulled out a shining, golden yellow cube.
"Wait.. is that... The Golden Badge!"
"Golden Badge?"
"Indeed. It is the Hachiyo's verification badge used here in Tenjin-ya. Whenever there is a very important decision to make, this is an indispensable item. Within Tenjin-ya, Odanna-sama and Byakuya-san are the only ones who handle it."
Ginji-san, who was nearby, explained about it.
It was unexpected that something like that actually exists, but I could understand by everyone's reactions that there was nothing to worry about.
"When it comes to a Hachiyo's appointment as well as their resignation, other than the Ayakashi King's decree, twice a year it is required to attend the so-called "Hachiyo Overnight Conference", and along with the recognition of all the Hachiyos, that is to say, all of the Golden Badges need to be gathered. The next overnight conference would be at the end of the year, otherwise it would be at the beginning of the next year, Up until that point, whatever you do, Odanna-sama is still Tenjin-ya's Odanna-sama."
"Hee-hee. Eventually, that's gonna be a problem.. is it not? The Hachiyos cannot go against the decree of the Imperial Capitol."
Immediately after that, Raijuu stood up, sucked up the blood on the side of his lips, and while behaving calmly and relieved,
P313
shrugged his shoulders.
"I don't mind. Right now, all of you here in Tenjin-ya are not put under my custody, yet. So eventually, in the next Overnight Conference, you have no other choice, I own all of you. So I don't mind if you all go against me. Nobody else will be interested in taking charge and managing the inn, and after that everything will get filled with chaos, isn't that an amusing story that you just wanted to see?"
"..."
"But, there is still one more I am certain of. That Odanna...  is now forbidden to come back here."
Furthermore, if that guy even tries something like flapping the bedsheets and putting them on, he'll get taken out like fireworks running off and fizzling out. Instantly, he'll be grabbed quickly like a flash of lightning.
What the.. What on earth, why did that even happen?
The whole place got still, like a graveyard, everyone was confused, it was quite a huge shock.
"What are you whispering about? Upper management's aid is required for business operations. Everyone in the top management, assemble at the Great Conference Hall."
In that place, Byakuya-san was the only one who was able to keep his head together. With a deep resolve, he was the only one who tried summoning all of the executives together.
"Aoi-san, are you alright? You look pale."
"Ginji-san..."
"No, this isn't unjustifiable, ok? It has turned into something outrageous. But first of all, Odanna-sama's safety must be quickly confirmed, and all of us here at Tenjin-ya, we have no choice but to make sure that we take care of everything by all means necessary..."
P314
I felt like something got stuck in my throat, I couldn't breathe with all the anxiety, and everyone else was feeling it too. But Ginji-san was already having a stern gaze as he stood up. And amidst the silence he ordered the employees, and in a strong voice alerted Akatsuki and Chiaki-san who got flustered, and before anyone else did, he went to Byakuya-san to confirm what happened.
Time in Tenjin-ya stopped, before everyone started to move about hurriedly.
"..."
But, only my uneasiness, it never stopped. Odanna-sama's behavior that wasn't ogre-like, and his smile.
He was usually reasonable and calm everyday, but the haziness of that person has not vanished, and I had a really unnerving hunch.
In my bosom, the pendant's chain where the key is hidden, I held it closer in my kimono.
Tenjin-ya's master, Odanna-sama.
Odanna-sama's whereabouts...
Odanna-sama's... secret.
Where is the thing, that I must protect?

Afterword P315 Thank you very much for your support. This is Yuuma Midori. I am grateful that Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi series has reached volume 6. To tell you the truth, since Yuuma's** debut all of the five volumes had been the longest, and now Yuuma has reached the sixth! The season is autumn. For this volume, it picks up everyone in Tenjin-ya's everyday affairs, and the next volume is going to be about the new strife and issues. Kasuga has quit Tenjin-ya, the male army's pointless bath scene, you can easily find Odanna-sama on the cover**. There are so many things and spoilers I wanna tell, but this time, the afterword is just one page, and I can only say one thing about the lively momiji-gathering illustration.. Oh my, on the cover Aoi and Odanna-sama has drawn in closer together.. could it be that something has already started....? On the cover these two bit by bit has gotten a bit more closer**, and somehow Yuuma is filled with so much heavy emotions.
I hope that we can all meet again in volume 7.
Yuuma Midori
End of Afterword, Volume 6.
x-x-x-x-x-x
T/N: Yeah I know it's the afterword but wth this is an additional lesson OK? So.. rather than saying "I" or "me", it's even humbler to refer to one's self by the given name, or surname. Yuuma-sensei does this for all of her afterwords so yeah.. Maybe it's a thing IDK rly but yeah, politeness is deemed important in Japanese culture so it's a thing. Yeah here's the cover and I'mma gonna point stuff out lol
So yeah if you look at the covers of the first 5 volumes and the 6th, this is by far the closest that Aoi and Odanna-sama got illustrated, and that shows somehow a progress of their whatever it is.
Also, holy crap the previous chapter guysssss..... T__T I mean can you believe that, I mean, I had to read and reread that part before I started translating it because it made me cry so much, like holy sh** I wasn't expecting that T_T anyways... We did it guys, we finished volume 6. I hope you all enjoyed.
Hopefully, if I still have enough strength to finish it all (let's just say that I have other stuff to worry in the real life and doing the whole 7-10 volumes may take a while) I could improve more so I could deliver the next 4 volumes as soon as I could, like seriously I could only see juicy things from here on end. Once I feel like I can (if my strength allows) see you all in volume 7...?
End of Volume 6. Previous - Chapter 9

Other stuff I used to do this: Kodansha Kanji Learner’s Dictionary (you can buy here, I’m not sponsored btw). I was about to buy the older edition but then the newer one came out 2013 so I bought that instead. Worth buying since I was able to find nearly all of the words I needed just by stroke pattern alone.
Merriam-Webster's Japanese-English Dictionary (the red-covered 1996 version is apparently out of print right now). This is what I have been using for a very long time, I bought it when I was still a fetus (yes I am old so what lol), and after so many years, when compared to newer editions, I still prefer this one since its entirety is Japanese-English, the English to Japanese gloss are just 16 pages tops, so you get more Japanese words for your buck. But that’s just my opinion, maybe other people prefer the Jap-En x En-Jap IDEK.
Basic online dictionary, Jisho. Knowledge of verb conjugations  and other words are necessary since not all have entries.
If you can read Japanese, you can buy the whole set in Amazon Japan, they’re shipping worldwide now, I think.

Alice in Borderland
Kento Yamazaki tient le rôle d'Arisu;
Tao Tsuchiya incarne Yuzuha Usagi, la fidèle coéquipière de Arisu;
Yûtarô Watanabee interprète Kodai Tatta;
Shô Aoyagi reste toujours aussi virulent dans son rôle de Aguni;
Ayaka Miyoshi incarne Ann Rizura
Nijiro Murakami est le froid, psychologue et tacticien Shuntaro Chishiya ;
Riisa Naka représente la Reine de Cœur dans Borderlands est une des participantes qui nous découvrons dans les derniers épisodes;
Tomohisa Yamashita prend le costume de Ginji Kyuma, le roi de Trèfle dans le jeu et détient vraisemblablement les clés pour retourner dans le monde réel...
Deux impressions après le visionnage de cette saison 2 :
Une saison un peu plus violente que la précédente sans être pour autant à la hauteur de la désormais série culte Suicid Game - pour un petit comparatif sur les deux séries, un petit tour du côté de Télérama ;

Chapter 4: The Old Tengu
Chapter 4: The Old Tengu
113.“Atatata. This is normal.” Looking in the distance, I sat in a seat looking at my face in the mirror. There was blood travelling down my forehead going along my right cheek and between my eyes. Although it is bad, it was a little amusing and I could not help but laugh. Since I have no other way to treat my wounds, I take out the ointment I was carrying around. I put some of it on a piece of paper. The bloodshed starts to stop, I tried very hard to treat it. I cannot hear the conflict going on, the only thing I can hear is the sounds of the lively festival music. “The Master seemed to handle that situation well…” I said to myself. Although, perhaps I may be kicked out of this place tomorrow? There was such a sad feeling. The Master, First Hostess and Young Hostess all looked so angry towards me. “Alright, what to do now? I made so many side dishes and I can’t eat them all by myself…”
114. I go around the counter and check the previously prepared dishes that have been laid out on a large plate. There are a few side dishes. Stir fried pork, Japanese radish fried miso eggplant and other goods. Theres also miso soup and freshly cooked rice. I was thinking about freezing it and cooking it for lunch tomorrow. I feel as if all this cooking was in vain now. For now, I may serve them in a bowl and eat alone for tonight. Ginji-san is surely being chased by work at the moment. The heat of the oven starts to warm the room. Outside there was a sound as if something had crashed into the ground. I was scared but none the less I went outside, a black lump had fallen against the willow tree. Several of the tree branches had broken. I hurried over to get a better look at the lump on the floor. I know that it was an Ayakashi, but it seemed he was having a hard time and looked like he was suffering. “A Tengu?” It was a nice looking Tengu with black wings on his back, small and light. They looked like they were on the verge of falling off. Perhaps he was one of those Tengu’s going on a rampage back at the front? It seemed he was drunk, when I was growing up I’d see my grandpa like this a lot.
115. I arranged some cushions and let him lay on them. “Why am I remembering something delicious…” My Grandfather would also go out drinking a lot with an old friend, he would often come home drunk. As he made his way home I guess his friend felt they had no choice but to help him get back as he would become quite drowsy. As I was indulged in memories the old Tengu’s eyes started to flutter open. Both our eyes met. “What is this place? I, ouch ouch ouch.”
“Mister, mister, are you alright? Would you like some water?
“Who are you?” The old man lifted the upper half of his body and I handed him the water. Even though his nose seems injured he manages to get up by himself and falls forward,
“What is this place?”
“Ah, this place is separated from Tenjin-ya.”
“What? Tenjin-ya?” The old mans eyes seem to get red when Tenjin-ya is mentioned.
116. He must have been one of the Tengu who had gotten into that big fight. It totally went over my head. In a panicked voice I added. “Ah, but it’s only me here! This place was abandoned by Tenjin-ya.”
“What?”
“Hey, Mister are you hungry? I prepared a lot of dishes earlier but might need to cook more rice.”
“…….”
“Did you not eat at Tenjin-ya?” The old man’s stomach made a growling sound, I suppose that was his answer. I started to laugh harder and harder and the old man seemed to seem confused in his sleepy state. “Is something wrong?”
“No, no. My Grandfather also got hurt when he was drunk so he’d sleep. I’d make sure he wasn’t hungry or sleepy.” What a story. My grandfather would get hungry when drunk and then would fall asleep on the spot crushing things. He’d then be very hungry after waking up. However this Tengu spread out on the cushions on the floor reminds me greatly of him. “I suppose I am hungry but I can’t eat food made by a little girl!”
“Is that right? Even the cuisine at Tenjin-ya didn’t suit your tastes.”
117. “……”
“Well, I’m going to set up the counter, so feel free to pick up some chopsticks if you want some supper.” With that said I head towards the counter and stepped inside. I washed my hands then prepared the chopsticks and chopstick rests. I also set out a bowl of rice seasoned with pickled burdock, putting it closest to where the old man was sitting. I then return to the counter to warm up the simmer pork and radish, as the pot begins to boil a pleasant smell comes out. I dip my finger in slightly to have a small taste. The seasoning has gone into the radish and it tastes very good. “Oi, girl.” After I had a taste of the dish, the old Tengu calls me over with an impatient voice. I pulled my finger out from the pot thinking he may have thought me as rude eating this way. As I step out from behind the counter I see the old man is still lying down on the cushions. “Oi, please help me to get to the counter.” In short, he wants this, ‘little girl,’ to carry him on my back. Why did this old man have to be injured? I take him over to the counter seat. “Good, set me here.”
118. The old tengu took a seat, he immediately asked for a cup of hot tea, I poured one right away. I returned to the inside of the counter careful in handling the food. He made a groaning sound. I had realized the old man was looking at the vinegar burdock root.
“Mister? Would you like some simmered pork and radish?”
“……”
“I can prepare a little if you’d like to eat something.” He seems to be in an eccentric like dazed state, although I may be a good thing that this old man is quiet, so I may do as I wish. What a tame refusal. From inside of the counter I place out bowl full of simmered pork and radish in front of the old man. Pork and radish is made by roasting ingredients in sesame oil then simmering it with soup stock and soy sauce. In this new world even Ayakashi enjoy the tastes of things sweet and light whilst being stupendously delighted. Since this is not a dish that can be accompanied with sake I set out a bowl of white rice and miso soup. I stood inside of the counter for a little while before I heard a voice call out “Hey,” followed by a chuckle.
“This isn’t enough, isn’t there anything else I can have?”
119. ”There’s stir-fried meat, eggplant and miso but it may be a little heavy.”
“Good, bring it all out!” I wonder if he was really hungry? It’s like he has the same habits as my grandfather who also ate quite a lot.
“I’m sorry, because of the limited ingredients I had here I didn’t plan to make anything great, only enough to fill my stomach. I wish I’d prepared it differently since originally I had intended to eat alone…” Whilst preparing the food and chattering to myself the old Tengu asked me a question.
“You, what’s your name?”
“Aoi, Aoi Tsubaki. I’m a human.”
“Tsubaki? Human?”
“Oh, I suppose a human being in the Hidden Realm would be quite a funny thing… But please reframe from eating me since there’s food here.” I set out the warmed meat, some freshwater, eggplant and miso in a small bowl. The old tengu stared at me from the counter.
“Eh, is what’s up? Is there something on my face?”
“You, well are you the daughter of Shiro Tsubaki?” I blinked a few times in shock. Of all places I certainly did not think my grandfather’s name would be brought up here.
120.I also gaze at the old Tengu. Unlike the eyes that I’ve been cautious of, it seemed like eyes that were looking at something nostalgic. Suddenly, a smile slipped through.
“Almost. I’m Shiro Tsubaki’s granddaughter.”
“Oh, his granddaughter, huh.”
“Yes, do you know my grandfather?”
“I do. Yeah, I know him very well.”
The old Tengu looked up at the ceiling as he was immersed in his memories. For a moment, he fell silent. And in a big voice followed by a laugh, he let out a “gahahaha.”
“I see. At last, a granddaughter. Ahahahaha”
“M-mister?”
“My name is Matsuba. Call me Matsuba-sama, Aoi.”
I can’t help but say it obediently when he states it so clearly.
Certainly, this man seems to be quite a remarkable Tengu. No, just being a Tengu alone may be remarkable.
Without thinking, Matsuba-sama filled his mouth with rice and gulped it down in front of me, along with a side dish stretching his cheek out.
As I watch this grandpa eating the food so energetically and deliciously, I end up remembering my grandfather.
121.“How is it, does it suit your taste?”
“Oh yes, it reminds me of my mother’s cooking.”
“You have a mother, Matsuba-sama?”
“Of course. Even ayakashi have mothers who give birth to them.”
So that’s how it is, I can’t really imagine that.
“For an excellent tengu like Matsuba-sama, this kind of home cooking must be boring to you.”
“No.. It’s good to have occasionally.”
As Matsuba-sama held the bowl with a side dish, he was absorbed in deep thought. Did this person really go on a rampage at the front desk at Tenjin-ya?
“Hey, did the food at Tenjin-ya not suit the taste of tengus?” I tried asking him boldly. Without knowing what Matsuba-sama was thinking, he curved his mouth and distorted his face.
“Hmm, I simply got tired of it.
“We, who are regulars at Tenjin-ya, got tired of the same food that is always served here.”
“Is that so.”
“The head chef is a stubborn guy. He won’t even listen to any requests. He has the attitude where we have to consume it gratefully since he serves us.”
“There is a traditional taste..”
122.“However, you can’t help but get tired of it. I’m just saying it honestly.”
As Matsuba-sama states that he isn’t in the wrong, he raises his chin up. ‘Well, things like that could happen,’ as I thought to myself. Anyhow, I am just an outsider.
“However, Aoi, your food is nostalgic rather than disagreeable. It’s all food that is passed down from the present world. Not only that, but it is also the taste that Ayakashi like.”
“Have you been to the present world before?”
“Of course, because tengus like human girls. There have been many occurrences where young girls from the apparent world would be whisked away to become brides.”
“What..” That would be kidnapping… Matsuba-sama spoke as if it was a normal thing, but as expected after hearing something like that, I became hardened. Even if they are rotten, they are still ayakashi.
“My mother was also a human girl. Her home cooking was simple, yet gentle. Just like food from the apparent world.”Around Matsuba-sama’s eyes filled with wrinkles, just for a little bit, began to become less tense. A grandpa as feeble as him also remembers the taste of his mother’s it seems.
Even I, for a little bit started remembering my mother. But as expected, I stopped myself. Just by remembering my mother’s taste, my body starts shivering. It’s not that I don’t know my mother’s taste, but by no means is the taste of love free. Even if I wanted it, it’s something that would never be given to me.
 123
After looking at my facial expression, Matsuba-sama spoke slowly.
“Aoi, you resemble Shiro.”
“Really? A lot of Ayakashi say that, but I wonder if I resemble him that much.” I lifted my face and for some reason, pinched my cheeks. When I’m told that I resemble my grandfather, I have just a bit of a sense of discomfort. But since we’re connected by blood, it’s not like we wouldn’t be similar to each other.
“Your faces might be similar but it’s also the same vibe that you both give off.”
“Is that so? I always thought that I was more calm than my grandpa.”
“Hahaha. No, no. You two have similar spiritual powers.”
“Spiritual powers…?” I have no idea what that means. Besides being able to see Ayakashi, I never felt that I had any other special powers.
“Shiro was a wild human. He came to the hidden realm by himself and would cause havoc with a lot of Ayakashi. Because of that, a lot of Ayakashi also were after his life.”
“Haha, that sounds like my grandpa.”
“There has been a time where I’ve also been helped by Shiro before. It’s been 50 years since then. It was around the time when he was still a boy. After getting drunk from sake, I fell into the Daikanro River, a river that crosses the hidden realm.”
 124
“Oh my.” I wonder how many times this grandpa has told this story.. Even though I think that, without words, it touched my heart.
“I may be a great tengu who has lived for over a hundred something years, but at any rate, my iron clogs were heavy. As I was drowning, I ended up sinking too easily. My wings have also gotten wet, so they were too heavy for me to fly.”
As if Matsuba-sama was making fun of himself, he laughed abruptly.
“Fishing at the Daikanro River is prohibited, but like as usual, Shiro was fishing there. When he found me drowning, with that fragile human body, he jumped into the river and pulled me up to the sea bank.”
“Well, my grandpa is the type of person who did humanitarian actions.”
“No, no. He pestered me for a reward for saving my life. He was a shameless fellow.”
“Oh.. I see..” As expected, grandpa was a useless grandpa back then too.
“So, what in the world did you end up giving to my grandpa?” As I was getting curious, Matsuba-sama looked away.
“At that time, I didn’t have anything on me. Later on, I promised to give him a treasured fan.
 125
Shiro nodded in agreement, but he ended up not showing up before me for a while.”
“Hmm, I wonder if that was when he returned to the modern world.”
“I wouldn’t know. He was a carefree, happy-go-lucky guy. He doesn’t keep his promises, but he’s unable to ignore what’s happening in front of him. He was an irresponsible person who lived for the moment.
“That is absolutely true.” Living in the moment, or rather, my grandfather’s haphazard way of life was expressed so wittily that for some reason, made my chest burn up. ‘This ayakashi really knows my grandfather,’ I thought once again.
“Since then, after time passed by, I’ve met him many times. But it seems that he forgot the promise. He never accepted it in the end.”
“Yeah, he probably really forgot.”
“It seems so. He’s that kind of person after all.” It’s not a seat for liquor, but Matsuba-sama still continued on about stories of the past.
Perhaps, it was as if his flood of memories was starting to overflow. If he didn’t talk, he wouldn’t be able to sort everything out.
“I liked Shiro. The majority of the ayakashi in the hidden realm would call him a good-for-nothing human, or a lowlife, worse than ayakashi. But even that was amusing and exhilarating.
 126
“Ah, a lowlife, worse than ayakashi…” It’s not mistaken. Even in the modern world, ayakashi have also said that.
“I heard a rumor that Shiro has a big debt at Tenjinya. He’s a good for nothing fellow.”
Matsuba-sama sipped some hot tea and let out a long breath.
“Nevertheless, your cooking is exquisite. It’s the taste that ayakashi like. My mother knew this taste but had a hard time with it.”
“The taste my grandpa liked and what the ayakashi like are similar. Sweet, light seasoning, and plain flavors.”
“Oh? That’s strange. Back then, he used to say that the food in the hidden realm was too bland to eat.”
“What?”
“Well, his taste must have changed.” Before I could think, Matsuba-sama came up with this conclusion. It’s true that as you get older, your taste could change. Could it be that my grandfather’s taste gradually changed to an ayakashi’s. Or did he miss the hidden realm’s food..
  127. I became confused at such a thing.
“Where is Shiro now? If his granddaughter is here surely, he is coming as well? How is he? Is he well?” The look in Matsuba-sama’s eyes is fun, filled with the excitement of a small child, almost shattering. I shake my head.
“No. He’s dead. He wasn’t that old, but he fell down a flight of stairs and died. It wasn’t a pleasant thing.” The sad sunken expression on Matsuba-sama’s face after finding out that my grandfather had died felt strange. Everyone else seemed pleased with my grandfather’s death but it seems the opposite for Matsuba-sama.
“I see, he was a generous man. He was respectable even amongst Ayakashi.”
“……”
“Human beings are such fragile creatures. Most can’t even live a hundred years.” His voice was lonely. Matsuba-sama sipped his tea with a sad look on his face. After that Matsuba-sama had tried to get drunk, however a cold expression came over him when I told him there was no sake here. He stood up in silence uttering, “I’m going to go drink.” He then left, I watched from the bottom of the willow tree as he flew overhead sending the pine wood flying.
128. Ships still soared in the night sky and the festival has not yet stopped. Matsuba-sama who was also flying amongst them slowly got smaller and smaller. He was a strange visitor but thanks to him I recalled the unlucky events that had happened to me. According to Matsuba-sama’s stories my grandfather has travelled in and out of the Hidden Realm alone. No matter how much I think about it I can’t help but wonder if he was not lonely, if he wasn’t scared. No matter how hard I think about this person that is no longer here no answers manage to come out. He was deeply loved and respected by some people here, but even in this world some things have not changed. When I think about my grandfather being the person he was it is nostalgic and unavoidable. My grandfather who tried to make his own granddaughter an ogre’s bride and a debtor. This feeling of sadness is something that I cannot do anything about. There’s nothing I can do about it; my grandfather’s debt is also my own burden.
129. The next day I got up at dawn, after rearranging some of the surrounding furniture I ate a lot of the leftovers. Yesterday Matsuba-sama the old Tengu had eaten a lot of it, so there wasn’t too much trouble. I washed the cooking utensils and dishes after eating cheerfully. This is a lovely place, it’s sad that it’s going to be destroyed but it does belong to Tenjin-ya. Now it looks the same from before I used it, it can’t be helped.
“Alright.” It was about noon when I had finished with all of the work. If I cannot work in this inn I have no choice but to find work on the outside. I put on the matcha kimono for employees that Ginji-san had given me. In this world the trend of a light blue flowy dress is nonexistent. Instead everyone wears kimonos, they are still thin, light and they cover your whole body.
“Oh, right, hair ornament.” I remember the camellia ornament that was given to me by the Ogre God and take it out of my bag. I miss those pleasures of standing under the Torii bridge, overlooking the face of a demon who turned out to be the Master of Tenjinya. Thinking back on those times are almost hilarious and the hunger in my stomach ceases.
130.” Well, looks like I’m selling this to a pawnbroker.” Even if it is pretty I attempt to put the hair ornament into the depths of my bag then stop, placing it on the counter. If I’m going to venture out of Tenjinya then I will leave this here. I walk the distance towards the door. Alright, let’s do our best to find a job.
“Aoi-san!” At the moment Ginji-san came out from the back door of the main building and passed through a corridor. He is now in the form of a young man wearing a Japanese half coat.
“Oh, Ginji-san! Great timing. Could I look for a job outside?”
“Outside? What? Why on Earth… No, you can’t. Aoi-san please come here.” Ginji-san seems as if he’s in a hurry, what could be making him like this? I follow him across from the courtyard, hurried along the corridor and went to the front desk. At the front of the main building all the work has stopped and all of the Tenjinya employees are lined up. The first lady, the young snow woman, the Tsuchigomo and the chief daruma. Other than that I don’t know anything about the others and for some reason there seems to be a large dog that was rampaging yesterday.
131. When I walked in everyone’s attention seemed to land on me, I thought that something must have been wrong. Cold sweat runs down. The Master came over to me with a sublime look on his face. Looking into his red eyes is worrying.
“Aoi, did you cook a meal for the tengu?” I was thrilled, I wonder if this is all about Matsuba-sama, however I wonder if I had done something that I shouldn’t have. The thought of them being angry at me and kicking me out was chilling.
“Aoi, Aoi! I was looked after last night.” At that time Matsuba-sama was wearing a kimono with the pattern of a mountain on it as he spoke to me through the crowd of Ayakashi. The Tengu were lined up side by side amongst the Ayakashi, they all made way for Matsuba-sama. Matsuba-sama walked over to me cane in hand at the front desk. Could Matsuba-sama possibly be a respected person? A great Tengu? Yesterday he was just a miserable old man who fell under a willow tree covered in branches.
“Aoi, Aoi you helped me who had fallen and served me delicious food, you are also Shiro’s granddaughter, so I will care for you.”
“Well thank you for that.”
“Therefore, I will give you this this Tengu fan.”
132.Matsuba-sama presented me with an eight-leafed fan. I thought of rude things such as to why I’d need such an object. The Ayakashi employees of Tenjinya all made surprising sounds when they saw it.
“Ehhhhhhh?” Their eyes raised as they all jumped up. Even the Master has an unbelievable look of surprise in his eyes.
“Here, this was originally meant for Shiro and for that reason you, his granddaughter will inherit it.”
“Huh? But is that okay? By the looks of everyone’s reactions this must be really precious.”
“It’s alright, it’s okay.” Matsuba-sama is in a completely different state from yesterday, he’s in a good mood and can look after himself. I look at my hand in puzzlement as he gives me the fan.
“From what I’ve heard you seem to be staying here at Tenjinya as a way to pay off Shiro’s debt, as his debtor. What a waste. What a pity. If you don’t want to work in a place like this come to Mount Shumon, there you will be treated with hospitality. If anything, you could even marry one of my sons. Then you will be my relative and we will pay off the debt. The Tengu will take care of such a human girl.”
As a result of Matsuba-sama’s outrageous proposal the Tenjinya employees once again stare at me in shock, I hold onto the eight-leafed fan.
133.The Master says nothing but only narrows his eyes. However, Ginji-san seems to be in a rush as he kneels at the feet of Great Tengu lowering his head.
“We cannot do that Matsuba-sama. We cannot do that.”
“Why not, nine tails?” Ginji-san continues to bow to Matsuba-sama although, I can understand Matsuba-sama’s reasoning and position.
“Aoi-san is also the Masters fiancée.”
“Ha. Fiancée? And he drove her to a place like that? A granddaughter of Shiro is my granddaughter as well.”
“Haha, yes well, that’s right, I suppose…” Matsuba-sama continues to scold Ginji-san. I rush over and stand in front of Ginji-san.
“Matsuba-sama, Ginji-san is my savior so please to not scold him so harshly.”
“Well alright, if you say so. But Aoi, please come with me.”
“Aha, Matsuba-sama I’m sorry but I cannot accept such an offer.” Matsuba-sama the Tengu standing to his side and all of the Tenjinya employees all let out gasps of surprise at my quick decision. A few voices of shock surface here and there. I can feel the Master staring at me with his red eyes, I do not know what he’s thinking.
134. Well, it doesn’t matter, I turn to face Matsuba-sama again.
“The thing is I can see that you care about me but Matsuba-sama if I go with you I know I will regret it.”
“Aoi, why?”
“Shiro Tsubaki is my grandfather and I want to fix what he’s done.” This may have been a foolish choice, but I feel as if I should clean up after my grandfather. It was for that reason my grandfather took me in after all.
“Besides, I told that Ogre over there I’d work off the debt and I can’t break that promise without his permission, and I know he’d rather I pay it back quickly instead of me bothering the Ayakashi working in the inn. However, I try not to listen to such mean things.” Matsuba-sama looks sad and disappointed, I can’t bear to watch.
“I’m sorry, I can’t accept this fan either.” I hold out the eight-leafed fan to the Great Tengu but Matsuba-sama but he slowly pushes it back towards me.
135.“Okay, but you keep that. I promised it to Shiro a long time ago, but he forgot about the eastward fan and did not accept it. Since you, Aoi, are supposed to be handling Shiro’s debt this eastward fan has been passed down to you.”
“Eastward fan…” It’s breathtaking. What does it mean eastward? Matsuba-sama stubbornly insisted that I keep it. ‘If you say so,’ I thought to myself as I hold it thankfully. However, it is difficult to think of a use for it in the first place, I have no idea what it’s supposed to be used for. Perhaps it’d look cool under a dish of some sort?
“Ogre God.” Matsuba-sama stands in front of the Master, before he was treated with great respect but now the Master smiles at him in a businesslike manner.
“What is it, Matsuba-sama?”
“If Aoi is your fiancée take care of her more. I know that you and Shiro have some history but that does not mean his grandchild is to blame.”
“Haha well, I don’t especially remember mistreating her.”
“Oh, you’re playing dumb.”
136. The old tengu turned his back to the Master and the rest of them.
“Well good because after the incidents of last night I was thinking about not using Tenjinya for a while but after Aoi’s delicious food I’ve decided to let it slide.”
“Thank you very much.”
“Well we did go a little overboard and will cover half the cost of repairing the inn.” The Master bowed his head to Matsuba-sama, other employees follow with looks of relief. It seems that I am one of the only people left upstanding. To me Matsuba-sama lowers his head.
“Aoi, because I ate your dish I became full of energy. When I eat your food, I feel powerful. You should open up a small restaurant and invite me to it.” Matsuba-sama leapt up on the spot.
“Ha? My food is just home cooking it’d be impossible for me to prepare a proper meal, let alone a restaurant.” I laughed at Matsuba-sama’s idea, however Ginji-san spoke up for me.
“Yes, that’s right! Aoi-san should open an eatery in that place. Please rethink your decision to break it down and let it belong to Aoi-san so she can be a chef. It’ll be a new start!”
137. “Ha?” Even Ginji-san thinks so, how strange. What are they thinking? I was about to laugh but I cover my mouth in a hurry.
“W-wait a second. What are you talking about? I can’t do that!” The cooking from here is a lot different from my cooking, I can understand that much. I try to refuse them. I’ll just find another job. However, Ginji-san begins to talk with Matsuba-sama about it.
“That’s right. If you do decide to please let me visit you at that place when I come to Tenjinya. If you want, you could even give it a name.”
“Thankfully, Matsuba-sama is one of our most esteemed guests. So, all of the Tengu would visit, it’d be extremely busy.” Ginji-sans business skills are a little terrible. The Ayakashi around me seem to be in a fuss about it, especially the Daruma standing in the shadows who have sour looks on their faces.
“Um, um. I don’t think I could make a very delicious meal though.”
“No, Aoi-san! You told me you’d listen to anything that I’d ask.” Ginji-san gripped my shoulders firmly and smiled at me. Eh? No, I told you to ask if you ever needed anything.
138. “That’s why you should cook at that place. This is also an opportunity for you to repay your debt.”
“……..” I can’t get out of this, I can’t get out of this. I can’t refuse, I have to pay back my debts. The inside of my head goes blank. At that time the Master speaks up.
“Please wait.” He said with a low voice, ending the flow of the conversation.
“Do not decide this on your own, I will decide. Understood? Ginji.”
“Yes Master, understood.” Ginji-san stiffens a little bit and bows his head to the Master.
“We will think about what to do with it, but for now let’s wait. For now, we have to get the inn up and running again. We can’t let it remain this way.”
I try not to panic, in that moment the Master puts his hand on Ginji-san’s shoulder, they both give me a passing glance before they stand to go before Matsuba-sama.
“Matsuba-sama, I apologize for how rudely we conducted ourselves yesterday. Please continue to use our services in the future.”
“Hm. While we’re talking about apologies for being rude I suppose we should too. Well, thanks to Aoi we accept your apology. Only for Aoi’s sake, and you remember that well.”
139. “Yes, of course.” After the interaction, the Tengu were rushed into a large conference room called, ‘Enma,’ by the first lady. The Tenjin-ya executives are also sucked into a working spree far and in-between. Whilst holding the treasured Tengu fan I watch the movements of various Ayakashi.
“Aoi.” The Master passed by and called out to me. I think worriedly to myself.
“I don’t know where you were going but know I will not allow you to leave Tenjin-ya.”
“But I thought I could look for a job outside?”
“Wait awhile, okay?” The Master grabs my hand and puts it to my head, it feels a little obscure. A black sleeve brushes my cheek and his arm passes by. I’ll wait as he says, I feel a little tired anyway.
140. “Don’t feel bad human girl.” The front desk Tsuchigomo says as he passes me. Although I don’t entirely get what he’s trying to say. With uncertainty in my mind I step into the dark corridor and sit down on the unused steps. The raccoon room hostess girl calls out to me, she sits down as she eats Manju buns.
“That old man Tengu seems to be quite fond of you.” The raccoon girl throws me a manju bun that I catch.
“Although because of it Tenjin-ya will be able to resolve the problem easily.”
“Ha?”
“Last night the Master tried to entertain the angry Tengu on one of our luxury ships ‘Kukakumaru,’ but the drunken Matsuba-sama who was not in a good mood drank too much and fell off the boat. The Tengu finished up the feast and searched frantically for Matsuba-sama but they couldn’t find him. It was a pretty big deal.”
“I see. That’s why Matsuba-sama was in that place.” Matsuba-sama must have remembered the sight of falling under the willow tree. Although it must be bad practice for a Tengu to fall from such a height. The raccoon girl continues to eat the Manju.
141. “At that point in time it had already been said that it was impossible to restore ties with the Tengu of Shumon Mountain since Matsuba-sama is the head Tengu. The Tenjin-ya executives had a meeting in the conference room this morning while everyone else was repairing the front desk area. Guests are leaving out the front gate and tonight Tenjin-ya is in temporary repair mode. Most guests have cancelled.”
I thought that no customers other than the Tengu would have been in the front anyway.
“Well then the Tengu came over and started yelling about letting go of Shiro Tsubaki’s granddaughter. ‘Bring Aoi Tsubaki to the front.’ Because of it the front desk could not be fully restored.”
“Wow, that happened?” Although it is said that leftovers are often better I didn’t know that such good things could come out of my cooking. Perhaps I hadn’t even realized it myself?
“I feel kind of blurry. I don’t even know what your position is.”
“I don’t get what you’re saying?”
“The executives are jealous that they’re taking care of a human girl like you. Especially the daruma in the kitchen which is where most things are taken care of. You better be careful.”
“It could be worse.” I only thing I’ll get worried if it becomes an extremely troublesome matter.
142. “Ahaha, but there could also be good things.”
The raccoon girl jumped off the stairs, her brown her brushed passed me. She turned to leave.
“Hey, what’s your name?” I asked for the name of the raccoon girl.
“It’s Kasuga!” Cheerfully she rushes to the brighter side of the hallway. Now I’m familiar with the situation although I thought it would have been a stupid reason that I couldn’t have understood. I nibble on the Manju. After that I went back to the small building, I sat inside in the quiet. I lie down ready to sleep in spite of the stillness of the afternoon. The smell of tatami mats is new, in saying that it’s also relieving, giving me peace of mind. I closed my eyes. I’m thankful that I have time to just simply breathe in silence accompanied by the smell of tatami mats. I fall into a short sleep.

「I killed a man」
about Morita eventually killing someone with his own hands if he'd remain at Ginji's side...
tags!!: Mature ▪️ asphyxiation ▪️ mostly MoriGin
⚠️⚠️unedited, also NO ONE in this conversation is a native english speaker (some parts were translated or held in other languages as well)⚠️⚠️
Pansy: also I bet Gin knows a lot of people have died because of him, either murdered by their debt or by suicide
Akira: oh yeah for sure, I bet Ginji's both naive to use lame excuse "oh I didn't kill them directly so not my fault, their downfall/had it coming" and also smart enough to emotionally feel that he has caused multiple deaths already
Pansy: he knows Mori saw a lot of death and almost got killed that night, but he shows up to the fucking hospital with roses and "sup dude"
he is constantly minimizing Mori's pain that's why he lost him in the end
if Mori kills someone Gin would be terrible as emotional support. he would probably avoid the topic and secretly hope it won't happen again
Akira: yup hahha he's awful for not having any coping mechanisms for that kind of deal he's kind of a coward
"oh as long as me or him doesn't kill anyone it's fine" that's just cowardly
Pansy: Mori in all fours being a dog as usual and he makes a confession "I killed a man :3"
Gin is shocked and terrified for a moment but rewards him anyways!!!
I bet Gin would regret it because deep inside he doesn't want Mori to be less pure, but he knows it was him who pushed Mori to this. and when Mori expects a reward it's probably hard to say no
Akira: oh I'd love to see some kind of arc where Morita shows up all beat up covered in blood, his or not, and doesn't exactly tell what happened, he's kind of manic too, almost as if something broke inside of him
and then he confesses he killed a man but like after some time, maybe in some very very intimate moment like a pillow talk or in between
imagine him fucking Ginji, they're mid rounds bc Morita can't handle himself since then, they have a pause where they're almost in the climax but they both are breathless already, and Morita just blurs out "I killed him", rubbing off his forehead from sweat; Ginji's like "..eh?" then grumbles bc Morita continues to move, each new push deeper harsher almost punishingly bad, and Ginji's almost ready to ask him to stop until Morita chuckles and almost laughs again "I killed that man..!" and presses Ginji down being almost not controlling about his thoughts spiralling and chasing the high just by pure body pleasure already, and while he sees Ginji squirming under his hand and his movements and pace, he almost breaks down, silent tears streaming down his face as he smiles but it's broken and crooked... "I am a murderer, Gin-san" and a huge sob
oh I want Ginji to regret so so much;; I actually want him to feel guilty for sending Morita out on solo missions all the time hahah
Pansy: man this makes me think of another possible setting, Ginji doesn't know why Mori seems to be gradually changing and getting more aggressive during sex, then one day one of the men working for him gets drunk and finally tells him Mori killed someone but was keeping it a secret from Gin
Akira: UGH the ultimate betrayal !! imagine you're cheating with a murder, bc that's probably how Ginji would feel as when he'd understand why Morita's harsh with him
Pansy: that night during sex Gin starts feeling uneasy, maybe even scared. Morita puts his hands on his throat and chokes him for a moment. Enough to scare him even more
it would be a fun way to balance Gin's evil karma! when he finally tells Mori he knows, I wonder if Morita will stay silent or cry. or say sorry, or put his hands on his throat again
The way Gin reacted when Mori was stabbed was so dramatic, he really looked terrified for a second. he should feel that way again
Akira: DAMN if Morita's choking him, Ginji's scared and it's visible by his eyes wide open, Morita finally backs off and sits down, his head hanging low but just bc he thinks he caused the worst thing ever (aka Mori did get PTSD during sex sometimes too so he's guilty for a moment) but Ginji just coughs and clears his throat, adding "I know already", Morita jerks his head up and Ginji's rubbing his neckline but also says "I know you killed a person" and Morita grinds his teeth - then suddenly attacks him, almost punches him into the bed and he's not controlling himself anymore bc how could anyone betray him and tell Ginji, right-- ends up in hate sex while Ginji's mindset is that of forgiveness and everything that goes through his light head is "it's okay it's fine I understand, I pushed you to the edge, it's me who killed that person by using your hands" and he's pretty miserable while Morita lashes out onto his body huhu–
all the same Morita should end up crying in the end, as a pillow talk perhaps
Pansy: lol I love how we always put Gin in the role of the torturer, but when it is us who is torturing Mori too much, Gin turns into the person who takes care of him
Akira: Morita's his toy, no-one has the right to touch him
Pansy: I feel like gin is too cocky to admit he thinks murder is too much, deep inside he probably feels guilty and scared but on the outside he might say "you did it for the right cause, that man had it coming sooner or later. once we are in power we will make things right"
you know in the final scene of the manga he is definitely thinking "damn someone could be touching my toy rn"
Akira: "I'm retiring, Yasuda-san, the thoughts of Morita getting laid without me are starting to take a toll"
