I am not really a writer, so I haven’t considered it. I love coming up with headcanons and I think I am pretty good with dialogues for our comics, but writing a proper story (even a very short one) is just way too difficult for me. I can’t even write these replies fast enough… so I’ll stick to what I do best and keep drawing <3 Out of the two of us, Katsu is the writer, but Katsu’s main focus right now is Nebula. To be completely honest, fanfics in general aren’t our cup of tea… (That being said, Katsu did write a couple of fanfics before, albeit not twst-related)

This one is more focused around Sam and Alpine's relationship.

How Alpine Celebrates Mother's Day

Now, Alpine does not have the best relationship with her parents.

Why else would she have immediately gotten herself adopted by an ex-assassin? (or did she adopt him?)

So when she met Bucky, and he started doing little things for her and supporting her in a way a father would, she buckled.

she immediately started thinking of ways to celebrate father's day for him

But then when Sam entered the picture, Alpine had a moment of realisation at 2am whilst watching big foot documentaries

she had Bucky

strong, protective, grumpy old ass who would put himself between her and any threat that popped up in her shenanigans

and she had Sam

sassy, enthusiastic Sam who encouraged her shenanigans

she had a whole family dynamic going on and she was going to celebrate that

for the first time in her life, she had a family and she wanted to show them both how much she appreciated them letting her be in their lives

lets be honest, she didn't give them a choice

but she could still show her love for them

now she didn't know what days to celebrate each person, she just knew she wanted to give them each their own day

so one day (quite literally mother's day - Alpine lost track of time and procrastinated too long), Sam and Bucky are at the latter's apartment, just chilling having a guys night

catching Bucky up on all the movies he's missed

having a couple of beers

just two friends, relaxing, laughing, having a good time

peaceful

until Hurricane Alpine struck

She came barrelling in, bags in hand that she was trying and failing to hide

balloons floating behind her she she kept trying to pull down behind her back

hair an absolute wreck, out of breath and trying to play it off

"Oh hey i didn't know you'd both be here what a surprise"

"Alpine you made us download a collective calendar, you know damn well it's guys night"

"shut up you love that app"

she struggles to get a coin out of her pocket, cursing at the balloons hitting her in the face and dropping the bags

"Uh.. you need a hand there Al?"

"NO IT'S FINE"

punches the balloons into the hallway and turns with a wild smile

"Flip the coin"

Sam is scared

Bucky is confused and debating whether or not he should put a restraining order in

"why?"

"no reason"

"well there is a reason obviously"

"no, no reason"

"i think there is a reason, what are you going to do"

"why do you assume i'm up to something?"

"the last time you made us flip a coin with no context you sold Bucky's arm"

"Hey when a blue lady comes knocking on your door looking for a gift for her raccoon friend, you oblige"

"do you know how LONG it took for me to get my arm?!"

"you're being so dramatic you literally got it back a few days later"

"I didn't get it back, Shuri made me a new one."

"Even better"

"She keeps texting me warnings about raccoons"

"She's looking out for you"

Sam is loving this, he remembers the day he walked in on Bucky frantically looking for his arm whilst Alpine sat on his couch cry-laughing out of pure stress and enjoyment.

Though they were slightly concerned by the fact that a) Nebula came to Alpine to get the arm and b) Rocket now had cybernetically enhanced piece of Vibranium.

safe to say Alpine was in trouble for a while

"Can you just- will you flip the coin? I'm not going to sell any appendages or organs to otherworldly beings."

"When did you sell organs?"

".... What organs?"

With that knowledge, Sam and Bucky flipped the coin, Sam calling heads whilst it was in the air, with it landing on his call.

victorious, he grimaces and looks at Alpine

"You can't have my wings."

"I don't need 'em, you wait here. I will be back"

grins and runs out, half tripping over the forgotten balloons as she goes and running into her door in the process.

Bucky decides to pray for Sam whilst the latter looks at him nervously

"I should be worried, shouldn't I?"

Bucky sighs and shrugs, "It's Alpine."

it's silent for a little while, they can hear loud shuffling and curses coming from across the hall

"Yes, be worried"

Sam is debating whether or not to run now or just accept his fate

it's too late though, because Alpine comes rushing back over with a card, some flowers, the balloons that had been poorly hidden behind her back and a box of chocolates

both men are seriously confused, but Bucky is also slightly annoyed

sure, Sam wins a coin flip and gets flowers, Bucky wins a coin flip and get's his arm stolen

makes sense

"Happy mother's day Sammy!"

"What"

"OH MY GOD"

Bucky is no longer annoyed, laughing and grinning at Sam

Sam is confused

when did he become a mother

when did he sign up for this

"Al what-"

"I know, I know. But I never-.." she pauses, handing Sam his gifts before shuffling, Bucky stops laughing at this point because he knows when Alpine is about to dump some trauma

"I never had a good relationship with my family and it's mothers day today and I was like I could just celebrate you two on father's day but you've both helped and supported me in different ways and you don't deserve to share a holiday besides you'll just argue, so i thought this was a better way and-"

"AL!"

She huffs and glares at them both

how dare they interrupt her nervous ranting

didn't they know its the only way she could c o p e

Bucky grins at her, glancing at Sam as the latter stands and gives her a tight hug

Alpine is surprised, she genuinely thought Sam would be annoyed but hugs him back anyway

is kind of embarrassed and awkward

poor baby is not hugged often

but relaxes soon enough when she spots Bucky smiling at the pair on the couch

Sam's hand rubbing soothing circle on her back before they pull apart and he grins at her

"Thank you kid. Really. I'm- I'm happy you think of me as your family, you know I'll always be hear to support you."

"Aww thanks mama goose"

Bucky snorts

literally a few months ago this man thought Alpine was a cat

Alpine is positively glowing

she literally could not contain herself and she goes back in for another hug, laughing as Sam begs her not to call him any type of nickname

Sam is buzzing, despite now having to reject every mother bird pun Alpine makes, shaking his head at all of her new bird pun name suggestions

He didn't like to admit it, but he was always somewhat jealous

sure he was friends with Steve before, but it always felt like Steve and Bucky.. and Sam

and then with Alpine it was Bucky and Alpine... and Sam

but now he had Bucky

and he had Alpine

he had a family here in New York

Well long story short today's my birthday so I brought treats for the class and those treats are . . . a whole original clone division! With original Jedi characters too!

*fanfare* I AM PROUD TO INTRODUCE TO YOU TODAY THE 495TH DIVISION!! ✨

So I'm listing each character by Company (no I do not have a profile for every single member yet), then some of their traits, then a random quote rhat seems like something they would say. Also, sorry if it's formatted weird, I had to copy and paste this from the notes app of my phone and then re-format it

('m putting it under the cut because otherwise this post'll be annoying to scroll past)

Shabam! ⚡

The 495th Division!

• Their Division is nicknamed the Jarkiv Divison (Jarkiv means charisma or presence in Mando'a, plural is Jarkive). So sometimes non-495th will be like "Oh there goes a Jarkiv" or "Yeah some Jarkive stopped by last rotation" or something like that.

• Their color is periwinkle! And they have lots of twins!

• They can do normal clone battalion stuff but they also specialize in undercover/infiltration ops and ops that require a smaller size force. Basically just very specialized operations, they can do lots of stuff.

• They've received tweaked training, and are also slightly more genetically modified (just slightly) than regular CTs, but still carry the CT designation so as to not tip off the Seppies/enemies that something's up with this division.

• They usually use shadow holograms for their disguises when they're undercover. They've received more extensive training about different religions, cultures, languages, and species. And before each mission they study up on where they're going, what it's like, the culture, climate, language, customs, etc.

Numbers:

1 Jedi Knight, 1 Jedi Master, and 1 Padawan, 3 Companies.

1 Commander, 3 Captains, 6 ARCs, 90 other troopers. Per Company, that maths out to:

1 Captain

2 ARCs

30 troopers (3 squads of ten, the Captain leads one and the two ARCs lead the other two)

So basically, there's 100 troopers and 3 Jedi.

Also, the Commander usually just tags along with a random company when he goes on missions.

It was a matter of great debate in the Jedi Council whether or not to have so little clones per Jedi in this Division. Some wondered at the efficiency of it all, but the 495th has proven themselves extremely capable. They're all very close, and work very well together. However, any casualties affect them more so than a normal clone / Jedi battalion.

THE GUY WHO KEEPS IT ALL TOGETHER:

Commander Jagger, CT-2874

• The guy who keeps all the captains in line lol. Tired man, like the dad of the 495th, makes the best caf even though they all use the same caf machine, it's wild.

• Unfortunately does a lot of paperwork (somehow).

• Good peacemaker

• Dual wields blasters

"Troopers! Put aside your disagreements for later and focus on fighting the Seppies, not your brothers!"

NEBULA COMPANY:

Jedi Knight Mayra Nubo

Lightsaber color: pale green, lightsaber spear sorta thing, with small sabers on both ends. Kinda like those electrostaffs, but with lightsabers.

Species: human. Long brown hair, medium skin tone, has some freckles on her face, short queen.

• Very strong with the force, occasionally receives visions from the force, usually in the most inopportune, inconvenient moments ever

• Had her hair cut off by Grievous like 3/8ths through the war, it used to be in a very long, beautiful braid and then it gets cut to her shoulders and then trimmed to her chin because the lightsaber burned the ends

• Also she can practically fly with the force, the force is her weapon, she's very very very good at levitating and force pushes and stuff, even like subtle stuff.

• She is also skilled at playing some space flute kinda thing and was in several Temple Theatre productions.

• She's always there for you. dependable, but sometimes changes her plans on the spot/with little warning.

"Incoming from above!"

Captain Koden, CT-8355

• Mayra's Captain (kinda sorta maybe they fall in love). Noble sorta guy. His name is like Kote and Commander Cody's.

• Unless there's extra lives put at risk, he doesn't usually change his tactics mid-battle

• Also dual wields

• Good at evaluating terrain and keeping people in line

• Knows Mando'a

• Very close to Jagger

Angel, CT-8260

• ARC

• Almost no color to his armor at all

• Bro has no chill in fights whatsoever

• Menace on the battlefield (to the clankers of course)

• On breaks, 1/3 of the time he's super chill and 2/3 of the time he's just raging about something (or somebody)

• Has a pair of stylized wings tattooed on his back and painted on the back of his armor

"GRAAAAHHHHH!!!!"

Graham, CT-0397

• ARC

• Likes crackers, even the ones in rations

• Not picky about food

• Picky about like mud and such

• If you're not on a mission he will talk your ear off

"Agh, we're gonna have so much fun cleaning our armor when this is all done. Stupid mud. I miss the clean facilities on Kamino. Not the Kaminoans, just their cleanliness."

Ten, CT-4736

• Medic

• Doesn't have a single 1 or 0 in his CT number at all, nobody except himself and Jagger knows how he got his name

• The classic medic stereotype of wouldyouidiotsjuststopgettinghurtalready and stopdoingidioticstuffI'myourmedicnotyournanny but other than than he's chill, he's only annoyed with his vode (and even then it's kinda jokey), and he's never annoyed with his Jedi getting hurt

• Also really good at hacking (Ten got his name from binary)

• Wired different, kinda loopy sometimes

"Hammer! Do I have to manage your metal-chomping tendencies every second of every rotation? This is ridiculous! You're gonna ruin your teeth before you're thirteen!"

Hammer, CT-2699

• Heavy gunner

• Good at using a battering ram and breaking down doors

• His bad habit is chewing on metal absentmindedly, Ten always gets mad at him

• Plays pranks on Ten

• Very slowly comes to appreciate snipers

• When he's in disguise he likes pretending to be a feisty old grandfather who has back problems

"Let's hammer this home!"

Jelly, CT-2603

• Twins with Bell

• Armor is fully colored in, like there isn't a speck of white on this guy's armor it's all periwinkle

• Good at dancing

• Life of the party

• Talks a lot but mumbles when he speaks

• Calls Bell "Belly" all the time (Bell hates it)

• Also kinda loopy sometimes, friends with Ten (not his assistant though, Jelly doesn't like that stuff)

• Unlike her master, she thinks ration sticks are the spawn of the devil.

• She's also friends with Ahsoka. Does the dramatic robe drop.

my mom died from cancer on february 22nd. she went as peacefully as she could given her illness, but i am grieving and struggling to come to terms with things. i was unable to return to work because i worked in healthcare. i requested a transfer to a different department but my job lead failed to do so and i was fired for “failing to appear” at work despite my active transfer request. i am trying to get HR to rectify wrongful termination but i am broke in the meantime. i recklessly spent a lot of my last full check to cope with the loss of my mom. she was my best friend in the whole world and i still just don’t know how to process this. i also traveled a lot since 2021 to help care for her. i lost $5k in savings since then plus money raised since due to more traveling and having to pack her apartment up and visiting her a lot. i’d like to raise at least $2.5k to help with future living expenses since i honestly am not even remotely ready to return to work at any job. i will also apply for unemployment once i hear back from HR for my job. but yeah i’m really not doing well and i’m trying to pretend i am but i feel so absent one second then panicked and horrified the next. my cash app and venmo are both under JSMNRN which i prefer for donations under $100. anything $100+ PLEASE send to my gofundme if able, because it’s better that i have large sums not immediately available because of my current emotional state. here is the gofundme https://gofund.me/fc8cdf05

tips for people new to astronomy or interested in getting into astronomy!

probably the best bang for your buck telescope to start out with would be a 6-inch dobsonian like the orion XT6. these kinds of telescopes are simple to use and affordable for their size, and are really great for visual observing. yes, there are smaller, cheaper telescopes out there, but you won't see as much and you'll probably want something bigger eventually

however! there's plenty you can see with just your eyeballs! the milky way, the moon, the constellations, meteors showers, the skies changing with the seasons. there's even a few deep sky objects you can see with the naked eye (particularly in darker skies), like the orion nebula, the andromeda galaxy, or the pleiades

you can also see if there are astronomy clubs or observatory open house events near you - these are good opportunities to see through telescopes without having to buy one yourself (and you might get to see through really good telescopes that probably cost as much as a car!)

planetary astrophotography is relatively straightforward and affordable. deep sky astrophotography is a complex beast that will beat your bank account within an inch of its life and leave it lying in a ditch

don't bother with "GoTo" features or "smart telescopes," at least not when starting out. it's more fun and rewarding (not to mention cheaper) to learn the night sky yourself. start by learning the more obvious constellations like orion or the big dipper (and how it's used to find the north star), and go from there. note how the stars change with the seasons, and learn what's in the sky at different times of the year. getting to know the night sky is super useful, enjoyable, and helps you feel a greater connection to the sky and the astronomical cycles that cause it to change

star map apps like stellarium or books like turn left at orion are really helpful for learning your way around the sky

if you have the means, going to a dark sky site is definitely worth it - but it's best on moonless nights. if the moon is more than about half-full, you won't see much more than you can from light polluted skies. if you want to find dark sky sites near you, you can try googling to see if there's any place known for dark skies, or you can use a light pollution map, find the darkest color within a reasonable distance from you, and use google maps or something to see if there are any parks or nature preserves in that area where you can park at night

your eyes need time to adjust to the dark. avoid bright lights. if you need to see, deep red lights won't disrupt your night vision

prepare for the weather (night gets cold!), and for the bugs in the summer

know what conditions affect observing. "seeing" is caused by atmospheric disturbances and makes it hard to see details in small objects like planets. "transparency" is a measure of how well light travels through the atmosphere, and it affects dim, large objects like galaxies and nebulae. cleardarksky.com has forecasts of conditions at different sites, including seeing and transparency, and is good to check before heading out to dark sky sites (it's also good for finding dark sky sites!)

observing is more than just looking at something, it's a skill that needs to be practiced to be perfected. take your time, keep coming back to the same objects, and you might see a little more than you saw before. try using averted vision for faint objects like nebulae or galaxies - instead of looking directly at the object, look a little off to the side (at, say, a random nearby star), and you might see a bit more detail in your peripheral vision. sketching what you see in a notebook can also help you notice more details

the moon is stunning! observe it through its phases and watch as different details emerge with the changing light. we have the landscape of another world easily visible in our sky, and that's a fact that should be appreciated! also it passes in front of planets sometimes and that's really fucking cool to see

planets are easy to find once you know what to look for. mercury, venus, jupiter, and mars all get brighter than the brightest star in the night sky, and they don't twinkle (as their larger apparent sizes make them less strongly affected by the atmospheric distrubances that cause stars to twinkle). they can be easily seen even in light polluted skies, and are beautiful through a telescope. keep coming back to them over time to see them change - jupiter's rotation and the movement of its moons can be seen in the span of a few hours, the phases of venus and the seasons and occasional global dust storms of mars can be seen over the months, and the tilt of saturn's rings changes over the decades

always keep in mind the context of what you're looking at, and the immensity of it. be curious, read about the things you see, keep up with the science, find joy in the mysteries of the universe, and never stop looking up

My refugee friend Abdul got robbed

I've been managing a gofundme for Abdul Luyombya, he's a gay refugee currently in a south sudanese camp. I've been mostly able to help him on my own since I've started working at my part time job on campus again, but all his things have been stolen and I don't have the money to help replace it.

I've raised a couple hundred dollars over the course of a few months but keep in mind that this money is gone often as soon as i give it to him, because he needs to spend it on necessities and medicine. What I'm fundraising for is the ability to keep buying him food, shelter, and clothing until he's able to be resettled.

It's been interesting watching the fallout of the Watcher TV announcement, in just how badly it has been received, in it's comparison to Dropout, and the current state of media and streaming.

While I don't think that Watcher TV was a good move for them, it's been a good experiment in how YouTube creators are supposed to grow. YouTuber channels trying to become their own platform has been tried a few times now, with Rooster Teeth, Geek and Sundry, and Dropout being the ones that come to mind. Rooster Teeth got bought by Warner Brothers Discovery, and Geek and Sundry was bought by Legendary Entertainment (along with Nerdist, for the Alpha platform). Both of those have gone through the ringer as their parent companies have decided they're bored and decided they're not making enough money.

Dropout is a weird outlier, and fingers crossed they continue strong.

So paywalling your content by creating a separate streaming platform has mixed results. Like most apps, part of success seems to be getting bought by a corporate media company that will bankroll you until they're bored.

There's Nebula, which seems like a good middle ground, I haven't heard any horror stories from creators there.

There's the patreon model, but you still have all the issues of the YouTube algorithm to put up with.

As much as YouTube has the reputation of democratising media, that anyone can publish their content to the platform (within content restrictions), the aspiring creators on the platform are starting to hit a ceiling of production value. Some have managed to pivot into old media by getting cast in movies, but the promise of getting to make something on par with old media, while retaining control of your content does seem to be more elusive.

I don't think anyone wants all their favourites YouTube creators to create their own individual streaming platforms. That's bad enough with the other streaming platforms. The dispersal of media behind a plethora of paywalls is a bigger and bigger hassle.

Paying for access to art and media has always existed, artists and creators should be compensated for their creations, however I think this is just part of the bigger whole, that our society is not set up to benefit people. If we lived in a world where we didn't have to fear starvation, lack of shelter, sickness, and a general lack of necessities, we would be more likely to share art freely.

This whole Watcher situation is unfortunately just another instance of Capitalism being a giant pile of shit.

Nebulous (Chapter One)

Nagode fumbled into his apartment, kicked off his shoes, and locked the front door. He knew his 24-hour shifts at the warehouse were too much, but the overtime pay helped him ignore the aches across his body.

He couldn’t tell you what he did for those 24 hours. All he knew was what they listed in his job description. That was how it worked at Atlas. That was how the company had become one of the largest multinational conglomerates in the world. Working with the Nullifier turned your brain off so you could get the job done. It was the modus operandi for cheap labor. 

The pay was bad, the workload worse, and there was zero upward mobility, but Nagode didn’t consciously experience any of it. The Nullifier insulated him from his work. When he wore it, he was nothing. His position wasn’t respected, but it was reliable. It was the one thing he felt certain he couldn’t fail.

Besides, the Nullifier was only temporary—a pitstop on his path to Minerva University.  

He entered his bedroom, changed into sweats and a T-shirt, and sat at his desk. He brought up his banking app to check for the deposit. It was all he had to show for 144 hours of mindless maneuvering over the last two weeks; four half-day shifts one week, followed by four full-day shifts the next. The money was there. He switched to a different app and pulled up his debt from the psych ward visits, reminding himself that the deposit may as well have been nothing. 

He was trapped. There was nowhere to go. Going back to school was a lie he used to comfort himself from the truth of his failure. He’d never be able to pay the hospital back.

Do it, the voice whispered in his head.

Nagode thought about his family and days more than a decade past, when summer felt almost forever and fall was painfully slow. He’d give anything to go back and get away from here. He thought about the look on his family’s faces at his funeral. Each of their voices spoke in his head, begging him not to leave. He thought about everyone who would tell him to find another way.

“There is no other way,” he said.

Yes, the voice agreed. 

The fear kicked in like it always did. His fear of suffering, of what would happen to everyone he left behind… but escape was almost tangible. He sat down on the floor and brought his knees to his chest, lowering his head. His fatigue came crashing in now that he was free from the judgment of others. Out there, he was constrained. Here, he could collapse under the weight of his world. 

“Surrender.” 

Nagode frowned, his head shot up. The voice wasn’t in his mind anymore. 

A dark, humanoid figure towered above him, at least seven feet tall with glowing eyes. They lifted a hand toward him. Everything happened so fast. He didn’t even have time to scream. He felt his soul transcend his body, and then he was staring at himself from above. Objects around his crumpled form began floating in midair. A Rubik’s Cube sailed past his afro and his Legos were levitating. His bed frame hovered a few feet above the ground.  

Soon he was floating away from his body, he phased through the ceiling like it wasn’t even there. He kept going higher, rising above Ujamaatown until he could see all of Neptune City sprawled out beneath him. Planes streaked through the night sky. The sensation was strange. He could see, smell, and taste, but it felt like a lucid dream. Nothing could truly touch him. As he looked down at his current incorporeal form, he saw that he was as translucent as a hologram. 

He went higher still, soaring until he left the stratosphere. Stars flew past him as he approached light speed.

Then there was only the vacuum of space, freckled with nebulae. The void out in the distance before him was beautiful. The dark figure from his bedroom sprang forth out of nowhere, gliding toward him at incredible speed.

“Surrender,” the figure repeated when they reached him.

Nagode didn’t understand what they meant at first, but then he felt it. The numbness of nothing. He felt its weightlessness, unbound by the laws of anyone or anything. It was invulnerability incarnate, peace in its purest form. 

A moment later, Nagode was back in his bedroom. All his belongings orbited around him in wild revolutions. He felt all of them, attracting and repelling the physical items with his mind. He stretched his hands, forcing his human form to come to him, and then he wrapped his hands around its throat.

Somewhere deep inside, he knew this was wrong. An anxious tension settled in the pit of his stomach. 

The suffocation brought Nagode back to his body in an instant, hovering in the middle of the room. His eyes flew open.

And then everything came crashing down. He drank deep gulps of air in relief. He didn’t do anything else until his roommate, Jonah, came knocking at the door.

“Are you okay in there?” He asked.

“Sorry for waking you up, I’m fine,” Nagode lied as he opened his bedroom door. Jonah’s jaw slacked at the sight of his room.

“Are you sure? It looks like you fought off a home invader in there.” His eyes glanced over toward the mess.

“For real, I’m good. I—I just fell over.”

“Okay…” Jonah paused, letting it go. “Well, if you ever need someone to talk to, just know I’m here.”

Nagode thanked him, apologized again, and hurried to close the door so he could return to the bedlam behind him. The situation was so awful he almost wanted to laugh. He stared at his broken bed frame while he mulled over the night’s events. One thing was certain. That deposit would get put to good use pretty soon.

“Are you sure this reading is accurate?” Battalion asked.

“Of course,” Gadget said.

Battalion was silent in concentration for a moment. 

Is he really doubting me on this, Gadget wondered. That hive mind made him too arrogant sometimes.

Battalion continued. “It’s odd that psychic energy levels this high didn’t cause a physical disturbance. I don’t want to waste time on another failed investigation, we need to focus on the Gladiator. We’ve encountered lethal threats half this level and no one needed to hunt them down. They made their presence pretty clear—” 

“Regardless,” Gadget interjected. “The reading is accurate. Psychic energy spiked to unprecedented levels over here around midnight.”

While he spoke, he zoomed in on the satellite map of Neptune City until the screen focused on Ujamaatown. Battalion knew that Gadget never miscalculated, but the skepticism  seemed to help him feel as if he was preventing failure. 

“Okay, I’m reporting this to the Director…” 

Battalion paused, standing in an empty stupor while another one of his clones spoke to the Director in a different part of the building. After a minute, he continued his conversation with Gadget.

“He says we need to narrow the source to a more specific location. I’m bringing Masquerade up to speed right now… She’ll be over there within the hour. Keep your drones in the area and stand by for further instruction.” Battalion headed out of the research center, moving urgently.

Gadget turned back to his monitor and grinned. 

Finally, he thought to himself. Something interesting.

they probably saw the success of dropout and nebula and were like "eeeyyy we could do that too!" but like.... i'm a very casual watcher (ha!) of their content, but i'm fairly sure there's not nearly enough of it to even begin to resemble what these two other services are offering.

i really struggle to understand the motivation behind this tbh; is it greed? actual financial trouble? or do they have really ambitious projects that they want to have enough money for? But if it's the latter, why not just raise money via a fan campaign?

I mean I do understand the motivations behind this. youtube is not great on many aspects for creators like them. other services like dropout shows us that it’s not impossible to leave but you still need a visibility on youtube and a way for the viewers who can’t pay for the service to have some access to it (even if limited). You also need to ease your audience into it and give them a little taste of what they can have if they pay, showcasing the change in quality. I don’t think their announcement strategy was good at all because it was very sudden and seemed to come out of nowhere for the viewers so of course people get angry. especially those who can’t afford to pay a subscription. I’ve also read that many international fans can’t have access to the app so that’s genuinely a bad move on that part.

So I get why Neil best thought they would have been better released as individual episodes now, because the last 15 minutes really do overwhelm the rest of the season. Cliffhangers often do. Next time I watch, I think I want to savor it more. Because:
