So I had my dad talking to me about cars today, telling me how I should basically avoid getting any cars except those made by Japanese companies because of how shitty other countries manufacture their cars (mileage and life span)
Do you have any thoughts on this? I don’t know much about cars and I thought of this blog while I was having this conversation so that’s why I send here
Do I have thoughts on this. Do I have thoughts on this. Babygirl (gender neutral) I have thoughts on aspects of cars you wouldn't even conceive of. I have thoughts on aspects of cars that aren't even real. Up the ante, folks! Ask me which cars are most bisexual!
That aside, for my opinion: Italian food is good. But of course, when I eat out in Italy, I don't go to any random place because "this country does this well", because I'm not ordering from a country, or a region, or a city, but from a specific joint - and some of them suck, some dropped or rose in quality, some are exceptionally good/bad with certain things, hell, some serve foreign food and then what's the adage matter now! That's why Yelp doesn't have country reviews.
Much the same, Japanese cars are usually pretty reliable, but Nissan spent the last two decades making a case against that claim (especially with their CVT transmission, a known ticking time bomb they've done fuck all about for years) with the help of whatever's left of the shell of Mitsubishi, and Infiniti is just the luxury brand of Nissan so ditto for it... indeed, another point to make, some cars are just based on, or outright are, cars from other brands. Infinitis are built by Nissan, and usually based on the equivalent Nissans. Except the QX30, which is just a Mercedes GLA - which probably was part of the same deal through which Mercedes got to sell the Nissan Navara as the X Class.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there's a lot of cross-nationality brand partnerships like that, past and present, like the four-decade-long Mazda/Ford one, or the time Saturn had such a crappy engine they had to get Honda to give them a proper one. And by the way, the guy who posted that? He owns a different Saturn which took 360k miles of bare minimum care like a champ, because reliability can vary wildly within a lineup, and also a Volkswagen that's been a thorn in his side, which definitely wasn't the experience I had with mine, because mine is over twice as old, and a brand can completely change over time too! (You'd think they were run by people or something.)
In fact, reliability changing over time and models is the norm - not as drastically as, say, "older German cars were unstoppable tanks and now they're overly fit-prone electronics messes where everything is costly to buy and dastardly to replace" (which, however, is actually a notable trend), but usually in terms of "in this model, through these production years, this component was overly keen on failing" (as per my Accord post). Part of how Toyota (and by extension its luxury brand Lexus) rightfully earned its reputation of King Reliability is such cases in their production being especially few and far between, and none notable enough to become an automotive meme like Subaru head gasket failures (and no, the Camry dent doesn't count). So, say, Hondas may not be less reliable, just a bit less consistently so (but even there, Honda interiors tend to hold up much better than Toyotas', yadda yadda yay for nuance).
So if you are buying a used car (as you should) it's always important to research for potential common problems (for instance, pre-90s Toyota frames are to rust what the letter X is to Elon Musk) and thoroughly inspect the car, to check that nothing is broken and that it's been properly serviced.
That last part is very important, because reliability is not a tickbox, it's a spectrum, and a function of how a car was built and how it was maintained. Carelessness will kill any car sooner or later. Every car has fluids that will at some point need changing, wear items that will at some point need replacing, and the occasional part failure. Even yours. So even when it comes to your car, keep up with that stuff, or it will eventually catch up to you. (And if regular services would tax your finances, look into how to perform them yourself - you'll find it's a lot easier than you thought, you'll give it a shot and it will be very rewarding and save you a lot of money!)
And also, if a hinge starts squeaking, if something starts sagging, if some trim breaks, if you get a dent or scratch, take care of those too. Not because they make your car work less or worth less, but because they foster an indifference that snowballs into neglect. Working on those little things will keep you feeling like your car is nice and your loving effort is going to keep it nice, dammit - in much the same way as it's important to take care of yourself and your environment for your mental health, to keep yourself feeling like you are making it and with your loving effort you are going to keep making it, dammit.
Links in blue are posts of mine explaining the words in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!

Week 2: Living it up in Amsterdam!
Time feels like it’s going by so quickly, as it’s already the end of the second week in Berlin. This week introduced the technical lab course, which for me is my robotic programming lab course. I haven’t had a great deal of robotic programming, and as everyone was introducing themselves during the first class, it seemed that the consensus was that a lot of people were pretty new. So it could be said that I was more than a little shocked to be doing partial derivatives and working with differential equations on the first day. Anyways, it actually wasn’t too bad as it made everyone work collectively and made time go by much faster as we were so laser-focused on finishing our tasks.
Tumblr media
On Tuesday, we went on a fun brewery tour of the brewery on the VLB campus. You see, all the beer that was being produced was for research and scientific purposes. The brewery was experimenting with different techniques and recipes for different kinds of beer. We got to see the station where the barley is first broken down into malt, then where the yeast is added, and finally where the beer is dispensed. As an added bonus, we even got to try some!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prior to the weekend, around Monday or so, 7 of my friends and I planned a weekend trip over to Amsterdam. We were to leave right after class on Friday and get there at around 1:00 am on Saturday and return back to Berlin at around 8:30 on Sunday night. I packed my stuff at around 5:45 am Friday morning because I’m just an all-round excellent procrastinator.
The entire Amsterdam journey was an absolutely crazy one, but quite a memorable one. For starters, we missed one of our trains and had to race the train via taxi. One of our trains was heavily delayed, which caused us to miss our ensuing transfer train. As I was the only person who somewhat knew how to speak German, I was forced to put my minuscule vocabulary to use when I had to communicate to the information help desk and taxi driver that our train had been delayed and now needed a taxi service. We eventually were able to get a taxi service to the next stop, and thanks to the driver, just barely made it before the train, and the trip continued to proceed as normal. I thought that it was crazy that we had just happened to have one German speaker with us on this trip and for it to be actually a pivotal moment in the trip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As soon as we arrived, we headed to the Airbnb and just chilled out until everyone went to bed. The following morning we decided to go sightseeing and check out any potential museums or other tourist attractions that we wanted to hit up. We eventually settled on splitting up between sightseeing and visiting an electronic music museum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I went with the group to the museum and as we were walking there, we were met with absolute torrential downpour. Since we had to make our time slot, we trudged through the rain to the museum, arriving on-time looking like we had swam through the waterways to get there. In the electronic music museum, we got to learn about the history of House music and see priceless artifacts like Marshmello’s helmet and Avicii’s keyboard. To top it all off, we even got to experience their own little DJ-mashup of some of the most iconic songs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That night, we met up with some other University of Michigan students who were traveling through Europe, and we decided that since it was one of their birthdays, to go out that night in celebration, seeing as he was turning 21. We walked around Amsterdam at night, appreciating the beautiful views of the city at night and basking in the nighttime culture of the city. Even though it was late at night, there were still streets packed with people having a good night out in pubs and bars. We walked around for about an hour, then attended a music festival. Now, this is where the night really starts to get interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we arrived, we were really excited and were in high spirits. Then someone from our group got kicked out. We didn’t really know why and after clearing up the confusion, they were let back in. We then spent the next couple hours dancing and chilling around, eventually leaving at around 3:00 am. As we were all pretty hungry at the time, we decided to hit up this one street full of fast food shops until around 4:00 am. However, as we were walking there, another person lost their wallet. We spent about 30-45 minutes looking for that wallet until somehow, by the grace of God, we found it next to a curb untouched. It was a pure stroke of luck that we had found it and even more lucky that it was left untouched. Seeing as how the universe was so unfairly lucky to us, it decided that it was time to reverse the tables. As we were walking to get food, I saw that we were running behind and needed to get moving if we were to get there before everything closed. I started sprinting and turned around to tell my friends behind me that we need to get going. As I turn back around however, I see a bike coming straight for me and BAM, it slams right into me. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt and I was able to walk away from it with minor bruises and swelling. However, this experience was extremely scary and I am extremely grateful that things did not end differently. At last, we were able to get food right around 4:00 am and eventually headed back and called it a night.
Sunday was our final day in Amsterdam and seeing as how our train back to Berlin left at 2:15, we could only do some light shopping in some of the shopping streets before we ended up heading over to the train station and heading back to Berlin. Overall, it was an extremely fun trip and well worth it. Even though we had some scary moments, we cherished the short time that we spent and left extremely satisfied with the experience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This will no doubt go down as one of the most fun trips that I’ve had in recent years and definitely the most crazy and unpredictable trip ever.
Tumblr media
That’s all for this week, see you guys next week!

Global Workshop
The Global Workshop refers to the middle decades of the nineteenth century. It is characterised by the rapid expansion and development of industry across the world. Usual historiography places the Workshop period between the Long Peace and the Good Game.
The Workshop period brought prosperity to parts of Europe which had been devastated by the Second German War of the 1820s, such as the Riverine Cities.
The impact of the Workshop period can be seen in artistic trends, with the shift away from voidtales and towards (on the one hand) realistic portrayals of the industrial working class and (on the other) optimistic speculation on future material advancements.
The guild VS (Vindrons Sairzaus), which sold the first widely-sold aphlox [sparkling] wine, would in this period expand its scope to other high-pressure and sealing components in manufacture, securing a very profitable niche.
The late Workshop period saw many barrick [electronic] breakthroughs, concentrated in eastern Europe and Lower Mendeva.
The Drengot Collusion arose among the French polities of this period. The contemporaneous New Urban Mesh (including London and Axbane, among others) was subsumed by—or took control of—the nascent Collusion.
Many items of vocabulary were innovated in the Workshop period, including recoil "manufacture", underwrit "logo", counterzoic "anti-microbial" and retainer "IUD".

ENTRY #30
Oh wow, 30 entries! What a milestone! I'm very happy to have now posted this much and I hope I get to continue. :3
My day today was very nice, just like every other day. Due to my hebrew class being cancelled, I got to sleep more and had more time for myself. I woke up, cooked the Buldak ramen I had bought a few days ago (it was cream carbonara-flavored; my favorite... and the only one whose spice level I can tolerate), and began to dress up. Baggy shirt, A-line skirt, tights, and a pair of sneakers. I looked good, I can't even lie! I got on the bus near my house and waited a bit until it was time for me to board the city bus.
I made it an hour early to my german class (it starts at 1 P.M and I arrived to school at around 12:06 P.M), so I took the oppurtunity to work on my french assignment. I finished the writing part, but it turns out I have to include a plan and a partial conclusion, so I'll do that later tonight. The teacher gave us until next Tuesday, thankfully! But anyways, once german started, we embarked on akkusativ und nominativ artikel (making use of my minor deutsch skills here, forgive me). She also told us that there is an upcoming oral exam next week and that half of the class will do it at that time and the other half will do it later on. I'm part of the first half and so is my friend, so... guess who has an oral exam next week! The teacher gave us questions to help us prepare ourselves and she expects us to be ready. As she should.
Then came french class. Like I said, she pushed our assignment for next Tuesday, so I have time to work on it still, but she also told us that our mid-term exam is next week. She told us to bring these: dictionary of any kind (I'll bring two: a monolingual and a bilingual), a Bescherell (dictionary but for verbs) and any grammatical tool that is permitted. There is a dictionary that deals with prepositions and I just KNOW that I need it, but I don't have it... I wonder if I should buy it or not. I know that I'm not permitted any sort of electronic device. From what I understood, the exam is 300 words regarding the Lettre 81 from Les Liasons Dangereuses. She'll pick a section for us to dissect. She wants us to do a plan and all that. I'm not one to do a writing plan or a draft, but since it's required and it counts, I have to do it. Honestly I could do it at school tomorrow; I finish at 2 P.M and I know that I won't work at all if I go home immediately after class.
I made a new friend at the metro! I saw her outfit and she looked really cute, so I typed in my notes app and showed to her "ur really pretty :D" to which she mouthed to me "you more" and I thanked her. She then asked me if I attended the college, to which I said yes, and we began to chitchat from there. We had to split up after a few metro stops since she takes the train and I the bus to get home, but I got her Instagram, so I'll definetly talk to her there. I hope I get the chance to deepen my connection with her. She looks like a good girl. She said I give the vibes of Emily the Strange and vampires. You have no idea how happy I was when I heard her say that. I love, love, LOVEEEEEE anything that is spooky or goth-related, like vampires. A good example? When I straighten my hair, I'm sometimes compared to the 90s Morticia Addams. Bonus points if I'm wearing a black top and black skirt.
RATE OF THE DAY: 10/10

BALITANG SHOWBIZ: EDM Producer 'Zedd' suffers Food Poisoning at 'OMNIA Nightclub' in Las Vegas [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
Tumblr media
(Written by Aerial Soundwaves / News Reporter of PonyvilleFM News)
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- The world famous Russian-German electronic dance music producer named 'Mr. Anton Zaslavski', known professionally as 'Zedd, reportedly suffered food poisoning at the 'OMNIA Nightclub' in 'Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America (U.S.A.) late last-Saturday night (September 14th, 2024 -- Pacific local time).
'Zedd' became sick through the overnight weekend, who supposedly to perform alone, in front of the live audiences in person, within the early morning hours on Sunday, after experiencing food poisoning symptoms. The incident forced him to cancel his highly anticipated weekend performance, much to the disappointment of his EDM music fans, sources told exclusively to OneNETnews.
For those don't know… 'OMNIA Nightclub' is the city's best nightlife place, famous for its luxury ambiance, latest sounds, and world-class DJs, such as the biggest names like Tiesto and Afrojack. It attracts celebrities, and actually provides a really private clubbing experience.
The 75,000-square foot space features in the famous kinetic chandelier, world-class service, VIP tables and bottle service for fully-grown adult drinkers over the age of 21. The nightclub has multiple dance floors, seductive ultra-lounge, energetic main room, a mezzanine, and scenic views of the Las Vegas Strip.
The exact cause of Zedd's food poisoning was yet to be identified at a local hospital in the Nevada state, the incident highlights the potential health risks associated with consuming food at nightclubs. Busy kitchens, late-night operations and large crowds can increase the chances of improper food handling and contamination.
Alcohol consumption combined with food poisoning can also worsen symptoms, thus sometimes causing dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Patrons like this, including Zedd himself should be aware of where they are eating, how much alcohol they consume, and drink with moderation throughout the night.
Both customers and night clubber attendees have to learn an important lesson from Zedd's experience, while prioritizing food safety along with responsible consumption habits. Investigating the case of music event promoter assumes great importance from its management at 'Tao Hospitality Group'. If all these technical precautions are taken, nightlife would be safe but enjoyable for everybody.

FDI Trends 2024: Key Countries Leading the Investment Wave in India
India’s dynamic economic landscape continues to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), as countries around the world recognize its potential as a lucrative investment destination. In 2024, FDI in India is set to surge further, with key countries leading the charge and expanding their presence in various sectors. As India’s favorable policies and robust market size draw international attention, let's explore the nations driving the FDI wave and what this means for India’s future growth.
The Rising Tide of FDI in India
India has become a magnet for FDI, with significant reforms, including simplified regulations, tax incentives, and the expansion of sectors open to foreign investment. These efforts have fostered a favorable environment for international businesses to invest in India's vast opportunities across industries like technology, manufacturing, retail, and renewable energy.
FDI in India has been instrumental in advancing technological innovation, creating jobs, and boosting economic development. In 2024, we’re witnessing an even larger influx of investments, particularly from countries that have long-term strategic interests in India’s growth story. Let’s take a look at the top countries leading the investment wave.
1. United States
The United States continues to be one of the largest contributors of FDI in India, with tech giants, pharmaceutical companies, and manufacturing firms establishing or expanding their footprint. In 2024, US-based companies are looking to invest heavily in sectors such as artificial intelligence, green technology, and digital infrastructure, enhancing India's position as a tech hub. The US sees India as a key market for business growth and collaboration, further strengthening bilateral ties.
2. United Arab Emirates (UAE)
In recent years, the UAE has emerged as a major player in the FDI landscape, focusing on infrastructure, real estate, and hospitality. India’s strategic location and growing middle class have made it an attractive destination for UAE-based investors. With strong government-to-government relationships and lucrative investment deals, 2024 is expected to see more robust participation from UAE investors, particularly in infrastructure and energy projects.
3. Japan
Known for its significant contributions to India's manufacturing sector, Japan remains a strong contender in the FDI space. In 2024, Japan is doubling down on investments in India’s automobile industry, electronics manufacturing, and high-speed rail projects. Japan’s strategic focus on technology transfer and industrial growth aligns perfectly with India’s 'Make in India' initiative, positioning the two countries as close economic partners.
4. Germany
Germany has steadily increased its investment in India, with a particular focus on renewable energy, engineering, and automobile manufacturing. In 2024, Germany is expected to boost its investments in India’s sustainability projects, such as solar and wind energy. German companies are attracted to India’s growing consumer market and the government’s push towards sustainable development, making this a prime opportunity for mutual growth.
5. Singapore
Singapore has long been a key investor in India, particularly in sectors like real estate, logistics, and financial services. With a strong presence in India’s urban development projects and industrial parks, Singaporean firms are now looking to invest in emerging sectors such as fintech, healthcare, and smart cities. The strategic investments from Singapore are expected to grow significantly in 2024, particularly with India’s focus on modernizing its infrastructure.
Why India?
India’s continued focus on policy reforms, digital infrastructure, and ease of doing business has positioned it as a highly desirable destination for foreign investors. The government’s initiatives, such as Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, are enticing global players to set up manufacturing bases in India, fostering job creation and technological advancement.
Moreover, India’s growing digital economy, coupled with its massive consumer base, makes it a highly attractive market for investors looking for long-term gains. Key sectors like e-commerce, healthcare, and renewable energy are becoming major investment magnets.

Money-Saving Tips for Students in Germany
Tumblr media
Studying in Germany offers an incredible opportunity to gain a world-class education while immersing yourself in a vibrant and diverse culture. However, managing finances as a student can be challenging. Here are some practical money-saving tips to help you make the most of your time in Germany without breaking the bank.
1. Take Advantage of Student Discounts
Germany is a student-friendly country, and many businesses offer discounts to students. From museums and cinemas to public transportation and bookstores, always carry your student ID and ask if there's a discount available. These small savings can add up over time.
2. Cook at Home
Eating out can be expensive, so cooking at home is a great way to save money. German supermarkets like Aldi, Lidl, and Rewe offer a wide range of affordable groceries. Preparing your meals not only saves money but also allows you to eat healthier.
3. Use Public Transportation
Germany has an excellent public transportation system. Instead of using taxis or ride-sharing services, make use of buses, trams, and trains. Many cities offer student passes that provide unlimited travel at a discounted rate. For more information on how to make the most of your student experience in Germany, consider consulting German Study Abroad Consultants.
4. Shop at Second-Hand Stores
Second-hand stores, or "Secondhandläden," are popular in Germany and offer a wide range of goods at lower prices. Whether you need clothes, furniture, or electronics, you can find great deals. Flea markets, which are common in German cities, are also a treasure trove for budget-friendly shopping.
5. Open a Free Bank Account
Many German banks offer free bank accounts for students. Look for banks that provide zero-fee accounts with benefits like free ATM withdrawals. This can help you avoid unnecessary banking fees and keep more money in your pocket.
6. Use Library Resources
Instead of buying expensive textbooks, take advantage of your university's library. Many libraries also offer digital resources that you can access from home. This not only saves money but also reduces the number of books you need to carry around.
7. Work Part-Time
Finding a part-time job can help you earn extra money to cover your expenses. Many universities have job boards where you can find opportunities that fit your schedule. Be sure to check the regulations regarding student work hours to ensure you stay within legal limits.
8. Plan Your Travels in Advance
If you plan to travel around Germany or Europe, book your tickets in advance. Train and flight tickets are often cheaper when purchased ahead of time. Additionally, look for budget airlines and consider traveling during off-peak times to save money.
9. Use Free or Low-Cost Entertainment Options
Germany offers plenty of free or low-cost entertainment options. Explore parks, attend free concerts, or visit historical sites that don't charge an entrance fee. Many cities also host free cultural events and festivals throughout the year.
10. Seek Financial Advice
Navigating financial matters as a student can be complex. Consulting with experts can provide valuable insights and help you make informed decisions. For personalized guidance, consider reaching out to German Education Consultants who can offer advice tailored to your specific situation.
By following these tips, you can make your student life in Germany more affordable and enjoyable. Remember, small savings can lead to significant benefits over time, allowing you to focus on your studies and fully experience all that Germany has to offer.
For additional support and resources, consider exploring the services offered by Higher Education Consultants who specialize in assisting international students in Germany.

Trailblazing transgender psychiatrist Jeanne Hoff has died
Jeanne Hoff, a trailblazing transgender psychiatrist, died at her home in San Francisco at the age of 85 this past October. Born to a working-class St. Louis family in 1938, Hoff received a master’s in science from Yale and a medical degree from Columbia University, the Advocate notes. A doctorate in solid state chemistry at University College in London and training and residency as a psychiatrist at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis followed, according to Gay City News. Related: Kim Petras was not the first trans person to win a Grammy That was electronic music pioneer Wendy Carlos. Hoff had already begun her own transition in 1976 when she took over the New York practice of Dr. Harry Benjamin, the German-American endocrinologist and sexologist who coined the term “transvestite” in 1910 and later began referring to patients as “transsexuals.” Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our daily newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Promotions (occasional) * Week in Good News (one on the Weekend) * Week in Review (one on the Weekend) * Daily Brief (one each weekday) * Sign Up Hoff is considered the first openly transgender psychiatrist to treat trans patients—including punk rock singer Jayne County. She was a member of the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association, which later became the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. In 1978, she was the subject of an NBC documentary, Becoming Jeanne: A Search for Sexual Identity, which documented her own gender-confirmation surgery. In a remembrance published by Gay City News earlier this month, Andy Humm, who knew Hoff personally, wrote that she “was a very serious person — though with a great sense of humor and warmth.” Hoff, Humm wrote, was adamant that a person’s gender did not determine their sexuality and “took other psychiatrists to task when they would help a man transition to be a woman and then insist that as a woman, the patient had to form intimate relationships with men and not be ‘gay.’” “Dr Hoff knew that erotic attraction was independent of gender identity and that there are, of course, trans women who are lesbians,” Humm wrote. Humm knew Hoff through the Catholic LGBTQ+ group Dignity/New York. “Her fierce courage was unique at a time and in a Church institution that was and still can be so homophobic,” Rev. Bernárd Lynch, who also knew Hoff through the group, told Humm. “Yet she found warmth, companionship, and support from many. Jeanne inspired us by being herself — sparing no price and counting no cost in her integrity.” In her 2018 book, Histories of the Transgender Child, historian Jules Gill-Peterson wrote that “Hoff cared deeply about the well-being of her clients.” “Her work demonstrates a level of empathy entirely absent from transsexual medicine since its advent—not to mention its predecessors in the early twentieth century—an ethic of care that, although greatly constrained by the material circumstances and history of psychiatry and endocrinology, was also entangled with her situated perspective as a trans woman,” Peterson wrote. “It is important to underline that Hoff represents yet another trans person who took an active and complicated role in medicine, rather than being its object.” During one poignant moment in Becoming Jeanne, Hoff was asked by Dr. Frank Field, who cohosted the film with Lynn Redgrave, how she wanted people to accept her. “Well, it may not be necessary for you to go to a lot of trouble to learn about accepting transsexuals if you have a general principle, and that is: mind your own business, I suppose,” she responded. “If you are meddling in the life and freedom of someone else, you ought to do so very cautiously and make sure that you’re entitled to do so and that they’ll be better off for your having been there.” “So if you take the position that people are all… http://dlvr.it/T0Z0GP
