Today marks 7 years since we lost the iconic George Michael. Let's take a stroll down memory lane and celebrate the incredible journey of a true musical genius.
Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in London, George Michael kicked off his musical odyssey in the 80s with the legendary duo Wham! His soulful voice and undeniable charisma quickly turned him into a pop sensation.
Transitioning to a solo career, Michael's chart-topping hits like "Careless Whisper" and "Last Christmas" solidified his status as a pop powerhouse. But let's talk about the magnum opus – "Faith." The album not only showcased his vocal prowess but also his evolution as a songwriter and producer.
"Faith" - an anthem that grooves through your soul! The title track is an infectious blend of rock, pop, and R&B that had us all singing along. Fun fact: George played almost every instrument on the album, proving he was a true maestro!
With over 115 million records sold worldwide, Michael left an indelible mark on the music scene. His untimely passing in 2016 left us heartbroken, but his legacy lives on through his timeless tunes.
Let's honor this legend today! Drop your favorite George Michael track below and let's keep the music alive. 🎶

Good morning!  I hope you slept well and feel rested?  Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day.  Welcome to the weekend!
Wow!  Here we are again: Friday!  Where did that week go?  No, seriously, where did that week go?
I spent much of my childhood and teenage years in North London but I never visited Highgate Cemetery.  Maybe, back then, it wouldn’t have meant much to me?  Now, I can appreciate it.  More a mystical, magical forest than a graveyard.  From the accents around us, visitors had come from all around the world and, for many, this is one of the reasons to come to London
Yesterday, me and old family friend Evan Alboum spent a few hours there.  As it happens, when he was young and living in London, he visited there often.
It’s quite a remarkable place.  Graves of every shape and size, ostentatious graves, humble, modest graves, stylish graves, catacombs and mausoleums and, as you may or may not know, lots of talented people are buried there: Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (better known as George Michael), musician Bert Jansch, actress Jean Simmons, actors Bob Hoskins, Ian Holm, Alan Howard and Roger Lloyd-Pack, footballer Ugo Ehiogu, painter Lucian Freud, writers Douglas Adams, George Eliot, Stella Gibbons, Alan Sillitoe, Anthony Shaffer, Peter Shaffer, Andrea Levy and Beryl Bainbridge, artist manager Malcolm McLaren, comedian Max Wall, noted academic Stuart Hall and, of course, political philosopher Karl Marx.  Well worth a visit!
Hope you can join me tomorrow at 1.00 p.m. for ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’.  The Letter A (Pt. 6).  No executive producer, just me playing with myself.  No more executive producers until The Letter B (Pt. 1).
Straight after the show, I’ll be jumping on a train and heading to The White Lion on Streatham High Road.  Looking forward to spinning tunes with my brother Shaq D.
Have a fabulous & funky Friday!  I love you all.  You’re probably thinking, “You don’t even know me!” but, if people can hate for no reason, why can’t I love?

SEASONAL_SONG_DISORDER: Seven Christmases ago we sadly lost George Michael… lending a whole new meaning/feeling behind WHAMS!’ iconic Xmas ode. Released in 1984, “LAST CHRISTMAS” spent five straight weeks at NUMBER 2 (the fuck) behind the atrociously cornballed “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” albatross… but don’t worry friends, this banger eventually hit #1 decades later. Whams!’ “Last Christmas” is seen by yours truly as thee greatest Xmas jam of all time & one whose sound is (still) very much en-vogue with pop producers today. I mean, how can you not love this song! Those synths, the vocals, those processed drums, the melody, those downer ass lyrics & the overall aesthetic that manages to hit all the canned marks for this lover of dated 80′s production. Our beloved Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (who not only wrote but also produced this certified gem) pours his merry & sadly closeted heart out in this track of snowy betrayal & endless infatuation. The themes of “Last Christmas” are universally pop in nature, dealing with heartbreak & longing, yet are framed in a dark as fuck Xmas-centric narrative. And don’t get me started on the envy inducing video treatment which is a true gem & only ups the song’s already fantastic aura & can be summed up by one amazing screen shot (see above) Merry Xmas y’all.

Which singer-songwriter was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou?
Tumblr media
Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (1963-2016), known professionally as George Michael, was a British singer-songwriter. He was born in London to an English mother and a Greek father. Michael rose to fame in the 1980s as half of the pop duo Wham! with his school friend Andrew Ridgeley.
Wham! released several successful singles, including 'Club Tropicana', which featured on their UK #1 debut album 'Fantastic'. In 1986, Wham! disbanded after releasing their third studio album.
George Michael began a successful solo career, releasing four studio albums, 'Faith' (1987), 'Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1' (1991), 'Older' (1996), and 'Patience' (2004). By 2010, he had sold over 100 million records worldwide.
On 25th December 2016, George Michael died from heart failure and a fatty liver, aged 54. The police treated his death as unexplained as there were no suspicious circumstances. He is remembered for joining other popular British and Irish pop stars to form Band Aid in November 1984 and singing on the charity song 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The single became the UK Christmas number one on the UK Singles Chart, resulting in Wham!'s own song,' Last Christmas', only reaching number two.
