Yes, it’s definitely reassuring to see that Geo's reputation has taken a bit of a (well deserved) hit over the last couple of days, but I’m not entirely convinced that the discourse is over, and I have a feeling the sour taste it’s left in my mouth is going to linger for a bit. I don’t want to try to force myself to write freehoun again until I’m as passionate about it as I was when I started that fic; right now, it still makes me feel kind of icky by association. Chapter 4 was partially drafted before I pulled the plug, so it should be easy enough to get back into it when I’m ready.

For now, I’m trying to finish up some freemance stuff—one spite-fueled writing exercise that somehow turned into a ~10k word (almost) publishable fic, and my other WIP from December that’s been fully outlined since January that I just haven’t gotten around to finishing. I feel bad for how long it’s been since I’ve updated that one and I kind of want to get it over with, so that’s taking priority at the moment. 

Also, I’m guessing that several freemance-related updates in a row will purge the rest of the anti-freemance people from my AO3 subscriber list, at which point I’ll probably feel more comfortable posting freehoun for the normal people who stuck around.

AI - becoming Atlantian

Sukafu is a librarian who loves ice cream.

She often enjoys a big bowl of ice cream after a long day at work. One day their friend Briar gave them ice cream.

But Briar had put something special in the ice cream: Chemical X.

The next day, Sukafu went to work as usual, but something was different. She felt more energetic and alert than usual, and she had a hard time sitting still. She was also much more productive than usual, and she got a lot of work done that day.

Later, she found out that Briar had put Chemical X in the ice cream, and it had given her a temporary boost of energy.

"How could you put chemical X in my ice cream?!" Sukafu  said angrily.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know it would have that effect on you," Briar said. "I just wanted to help you be more productive."

Despite being angry at Briar, Sukafu has to admit that the chemical X did help her get a lot of work done that day.

Sukafu later that night began to glow a bright blue color.

Was this a reaction to the chemical x that Sukafu ate earlier?

Sukafu turned towards Briar who was sleeping over, "Hey Briar, I'm glowing blue!"

"It's probably just the ice cream," Briar said sleepily. "Go back to bed."

Sukafu did as Briar said, but she was still worried about the strange reaction she had to the chemical x.

Charles, Lord of the Sea, came by to visit the next day,

"Hey Sukafu, I heard that you glowed blue last night after eating ice cream with chemical x in it. Is that true?"

"Yeah, I did. I'm not sure what it means though."

"Well, I'm a lord of the sea, so I know a thing or two about chemicals. Let me take a look at you."

Charles examined Sukafu and found that she was completely healthy.

"It looks like the chemical x didn't have any adverse effects on you. In fact, it looks like it actually had a positive effect on you. Your energy levels are through the roof!"

"Really? Maybe chemical x isn't so bad after all."

"Well, I wouldn't recommend eating it all the time. But it looks like it can be beneficial in moderation."

Next morning, when Suka woke up, they discovered they were starting to grow scales on their face and hands.

"Briar, what did you do to me?!" Sukafu said, panicked.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about," Briar said, looking just as confused as Sukafu.

Sukafu soon realized that the scales were actually a side effect of the chemical x.

"So the chemical x not only gave me more energy, but it also changed my appearance."

"It looks like it did. But don't worry, the changes are only temporary. In a few days, you'll be back to normal."

Despite the changes to her appearance, Sukafu is grateful to Briar for giving her the chemical x. It may have been a little dangerous, but it ended up helping her in the end.

Suddenly Zume walked into the conversation, crying out, "OOOOO A AAA OOOOO AAAAAAA"

"What's wrong Zume?" Sukafu asked.

"I just realized that I'm the only one who isn't affected by the chemical x! Everyone else is changing, but I'm stuck the way I am!"

"Don't worry Zume, the changes are only temporary. You'll be back to normal soon."

"I hope so," Zume said, wiping the tears from their eyes.

Briar started googling the effects of chemical X on her phone and her eyes grow wide. "Um... I don't think I put chemical X in there. It may have been mutagen. And a scale kinda touched it when I put it in the ice cream."

Sukafu responded,

"What?! You mean this could be permanent?!"

GEONEO!!! walked out from the shadows and said "I knew it, you are changing, changing into an Atlantian"

Sukafu asks, "what's an Atlantian?"

"We are a race of people who can breathe underwater and have gills. We are also immune to the effects of chemical x."

"So that's why I'm not affected by the chemical x," Zume said. "I'm an Atlantian too!"

"That's right," GEONEO!!! said. "And now that you have been exposed to the chemical x, you are beginning to change into one of us."

"So that's why I'm growing scales," Sukafu said. "I'm becoming an Atlantian."

"That's right," GEONEO!!! said. "In time, you will be able to breathe underwater and have gills. You will also be immune to the effects of chemical x."

"That's amazing!" Sukafu said. "I always wanted to be able to breathe underwater."

"I'm glad I could help you realize your dream," Briar said. "I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble."

"Don't worry about it," Sukafu said. "It was worth it to become an Atlantian." The end?
