I'm citing all this bc frankly, being a fat person does not mean that you can recognize fatphobia. I know the internet has watered down the word internalized so completely, but it's still an important word, bc you are not exempt from criticism about fatphobia.

Like I've said before, plenty of fat people don't consider themselves fat, just a temporarily inconvenienced thin person.

I swear to fucking god. Brendan Fraser got awarded for best actor for his performance in the bigoted, fatphobic, piece of shit, stain on humanity movie that is The Whale. Fuck him for choosing to be in it and participating in furthering fat people's oppression, fuck the movie's director, fuck everyone who helped make it. It is one of the most ignorant and bigoted shit shows I have ever seen, and the director claimed it was an "empathetic" portrayal of fat people who he assumes are all gross, lazy, in bad health, and constantly eating "junk food." Yeah, I'm sure you made an "empathetic" movie that "encourages empathy" when the entire film is based on nothing but fatphobic stereotypes and portraying fat people as negatively as you can without directly making us a villain. If a movie was this bigoted and shitty to any other oppressed group, it would not have gotten this much praise. There would have been outrage. But the world wants to keep a hold of its last free punching bag that it can punch and kick without any backlash. I am so fucking sick of seeing people care about all other oppressed groups I'm a part of but then saying the horrid treatment I receive as a fat person is justified and okay. Even people who consider themselves progressive don't give a fuck about fat people. I am done with this hypocrisy.

And for anyone who tries to defend this with "Well Brendan Fraser couldn't get any acting jobs so this is good because it's his first one!!!" I am exploding your car.

when andi had started at forbidden planet, nate had mistaken her for a fellow geek. it had taken him one whole conversation for that illusion to dissipate, but he was still happy to have someone who he could GAB to about his hobbies and interests. he didn't have the filter to control himself from nerding out each time he came into his favorite store. "not much, just got paid and i have the weekend to myself. decided i could spend it catching up on some of the series i've fallen behind on," he gestured to the comics and graphic novels he'd placed on the counter. "yes, snotgirl. and, no, she isn't even a superhero. she is a fashion blogger with bad allergies who spends most of her time at home to avoid showing people her true, mucus-filled self. it's a great read, i swear," nate watched anxiously, scanning her face for any indication of interest or, worse, disdain. relief flooded him as she kept flipping through pages. "oh, no. i wasn't going to buy it for myself. i already have it all at home. it wasn't really a gift either, i was thinking you might be able to read it, like, for free. just flip through it while you're working and put it back on the shelves when you're done."

If there was a place less suited for Andi to work outside of Forbidden Planet, she really would need to see it to believe it. Comics, and all the weird board games weren't exactly anything she cared for, even if she could slap a wide grin on her face for everyone who came through. As soon as the bell had rung she'd glanced up from her phone, half ready to put on a fake grin, but seeing Nate she'd relaxed back a bit, happy to ignore her real duties in favor of scrolling through Instagram while he went about his business. The second he came up, his stack of comics and things she'd set her phone down and smiled. "What up, Nate?" she asked, before she started scanning in the comics he'd set down. She eyed the comic at his suggestion and frowned at the title. "Snotgirl?" she asked, meeting his eyes again. "Is she, like, a snot-based superhero? Because, I don't think that's up my alley. The cover's cool, though." She considered it for a minute, before taking it from him, to flip through a few pages, eyeing over the art with an interested gaze. "Are you buying it for yourself or was this just a gift for me?"
