Currently new iPhone customers can use satellites to send emergency messages. This technology will come to the UK soon, as will an implementation on Android. This will eliminate the main purpose of the messenger devices and around £300 to have the peripheral features is not going to be a seller.
Currently Apple is supporting the satellite communications, a position that will not continue, and I am sure Google will not pay through Android. So it is likely to be an add on to your phone bill if you require it. But the current messengers have a cost also associated.
Personally this is a great innovation and cannot wait to get this on my next Android phone.
