As technology continues to advance, garage door systems are becoming more sophisticated and efficient. In this article, we will discuss some of the emerging garage door technologies and how repair technicians in Mississauga are staying ahead of the curve.
Smart Garage Door Openers
One of the most significant advancements in garage door technology is the development of smart garage door openers. These openers connect to Wi-Fi and can be controlled remotely through a smartphone app, allowing homeowners to monitor and control their garage doors from anywhere. This technology not only offers convenience but also improves security. Some models even include built-in cameras, allowing homeowners to monitor their garage in real-time. Repair technicians in Mississauga are staying updated on these new technologies to provide the best possible service to their clients.
Insulated Garage Doors
With energy efficiency becoming a priority for many homeowners, insulated garage doors are gaining popularity. These doors feature multiple layers of insulation, reducing heat transfer and helping to maintain a consistent temperature in the garage. This can result in significant energy savings, especially during extreme weather conditions. Repair technicians in Mississauga are trained to install and maintain these energy-efficient doors.
High-Speed Garage Doors
High-speed garage doors are designed to open and close much faster than traditional garage doors. This can be particularly useful in commercial settings where efficiency is crucial. These doors often use advanced sensors and safety features to prevent accidents while operating at high speeds. Mississauga repair technicians are familiar with these advanced commercial garage door systems and can ensure they are installed and maintained correctly.
Garage Door Safety Features
Garage door safety has come a long way over the years, with manufacturers incorporating various features to prevent accidents and improve overall security. Some of these features include photo-eye sensors, which detect obstacles in the path of the door and prevent it from closing, and automatic reversal systems that cause the door to reverse if it encounters resistance. Repair technicians in Mississauga are well-versed in these safety features and can ensure they are functioning correctly.
Battery Backup Systems
Power outages can be a significant inconvenience, especially if they leave homeowners unable to access their garage. Battery backup systems provide a solution by allowing the garage door opener to continue functioning even during a power outage. This feature is becoming more popular and is often included in modern garage door systems. Mississauga repair technicians are prepared to handle these systems and can ensure they are installed and maintained correctly.

Smart Garage Door Openers
In this digital age, everything is becoming smart and interconnected, and garage doors are no exception. Smart garage door openers are now being used more frequently, allowing users to monitor and control their garage doors remotely through their smartphones. These advanced systems can be integrated with other smart home devices, such as security cameras, and offer additional features such as voice control and real-time notifications. To keep up with these advancements, Mississauga repair technicians are continuously learning about the latest smart garage door openers and providing the necessary installation and maintenance services.
Solar-Powered Garage Door Openers
Eco-friendly and energy-efficient technologies are in high demand, and garage door openers are no exception. Solar-powered garage door openers are emerging as an excellent alternative to traditional electric models, reducing energy consumption and offering a greener solution. These openers use solar panels to generate power, and some models even come with battery backup systems for uninterrupted operation during power outages. Mississauga repair technicians are familiarizing themselves with these systems and offering installation and maintenance services for solar-powered garage door openers.

Like there can be advantages to smart tech. We've gained a lot from having an entire world atlas on our phones. I loved having a thermostat I could program to turn on at certain times. There's some smart tech I could personally use, like the fridge that you can just tap the door to see into it, or that can send a list of whats inside to your phone.
But this helps the specific problems I have in life. It wouldn't help everyone.
On the opposite end of problems for me is that I hate using electric kitchen equipment. Its loud. Its strange. Its hard to clean. I hate it. I will actively avoid it. I own a pastry cutter for this reason. I have so many whisks. When we started grinding our own coffee beans I insisted on a manual grinder.
I think it's important to remember that while forcing smart items on consumers is not a good thing, that smart devices can serve to make life easier for people with a wide range of disabilities.
#don't throw out the baby with the bath water#technology#I'm pissed that we had to get a smart garage door opener engine thing#and even though I would benefit from some smart technology#its honestly probably too confusing for me to figure out how to use it

A/N: This turned out filthier than I had originally anticipated, someone pls cleanse my mind?
wordcount: 3,1k
PART 1 | PART 2
It is late January now, almost a month after your second encounter with Tom. You had been wearing the necklace like he told you to – up until three days ago at least, when you figured he wasn’t going to come back. He has been on your mind each day since the last time you saw him, dreams again plaguing your night’s rest. You shake your head, disregarding your thoughts about him. Whatever happened between you two, it was in the past. Besides, you had agreed to drink a coffee with a coworker next week after he asked you.
A freezing breeze leaves a tingling sensation on your skin as you step out of your car, merely the dim light of the streetlamp shining into the darkness of the night. You have just come home from work, a cloud of condensation forming in the crisp winter air as you exhale a deep breath, shutting your eyes. Work’s been insanely draining lately – with many coworkers on sick leave, your workload has doubled, if not tripled, leaving you burnt out each day you come home from work. As you exit your garage, you notice faint footsteps imprinted into the snow-covered ground on the pathway. They are barely visible now, a new layer of snow making them difficult to distinguish from the rest of the surrounding area. An eerie feeling spreads in your chest, approaching your front door in a quicker manner. A letter in your mailbox has you sigh in relief, assuming it were the mail officer’s footprints. Who else would visit without announcing themselves first otherwise?
Still, you decide to check your security camera first, clicking on the app icon on your phone. A red pop-up message greets you as soon as you open the app.
No recordings available.
It’s been working fine recently. Well, until now at least. “Damn technology,” you mutter with a heavy sigh, turning the keys in the lock, pushing open the door to your home. You kick off your shoes and hang your coat onto the bathroom door, ready to finally head to bed. Just one glass of water from the kitchen was what you needed before you’d slip under your warm duvet, spending the rest of the evening relaxing with a book.
You don’t even bother turning on the lights in the kitchen. Opening the cupboard, you grab the first glass you get a hold of and turn on the sink. Sounds of water splashing, filling your cup echo around the otherwise silent room. Taking a sip of the refreshing liquid, you turn to leave the room.
“The necklace. You put it off.”
An all too familiar voice rings out behind you, and you shriek in terror, the glass of water slipping from your hand onto the marble floor, shattering into hundreds of tiny pieces. “Who-“ you back off, your hand tapping on the wall to find the light switch. As you finally do, you instantly recognize the figure in front of you. Tall and relaxed, brunette curls messier than usual, leaning against the kitchen counter like he owned the place. His burning gaze lays hot on your skin, dark eyes meeting yours.
Your heart is racing in your chest, missing a beat or two in the process. He did come back. Though your relief at the sight of Tom quickly vanishes, being replaced by anger.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” you raise your voice at him, slowly walking towards the brunette. Tom doesn’t even budge, only his eyes following your movements. His lips curl up into a tiny, sly smirk as you stand directly before him, his taller figure easily looming over yours.
A small huff falls over your lips, shaking your head at how unbothered he seems to be by your reaction.
“You can’t keep breaking into my house. Turn up unannounced.” you add, a little more calmly. His hand reaches up, the pad of his thumb softly brushing over your cheek for a brief moment, before he breaks the silence.
“I don’t break into houses, darling. I merely enter.”
“I do not care what you call it, it’s—“
His lips crashing on yours have your complaint come to an abrupt halt. It’s passionate, hungry, almost as if he’s been starved of your touch.
The first time you feel his lips on yours.
“No matter how hard I try, you never leave my mind. There has not been a day since we met that I have not thought of you. It’s ruining me.” He voices, and by the look of his eyes you know he is being genuine.
“Yet, you left. Like I was nothing to you.” you mumble, kneeling down to pick up the shattered glass on the floor. Tom is silent for a moment, sighing as you collect the tiny pieces on your palm.
“You are going to hurt yourself. Step away.” he demands, nudging your side with his knee. As you do, he takes out his wand, pointing it towards the mess on the marble floor.
“Reparo.”
Your mind is too slow to comprehend what happens next, each individual piece rearranging itself to take the shape of the glass it once was, the spilt water on the floor vanishing. Your eyes widen as the cup stands before you on the floor, completely unharmed like nothing ever happened. Slowly, you turn to face Tom. “You can do that?” you whisper, inspecting the glass as you get up, eyes flickering between the glass and the brunette in front of you.
He nods.
You nod.
“Why are you here?” you finally ask, putting the glass back into the cupboard.
Tom’s arms cross over his chest, his gaze sinking down to his leather shoes. “I don’t particularly like the way that man’s mind works when he looks at you.” he remarks, the bitterness evident in his voice.
Your eyebrows furrow in confusion. “What ma-” you begin, until realisation dawns on you, a bewildered huff falling over your lips, “my coworker? Have you been stalking me?”
Tom grasps your arm, closing the distance between you two as he pulls you towards him, strict eyes burning into yours. “You are mine. Since the day you have decided to mess with my head. I need you to understand that.”
A playful smirk forms on your lips. With such a massive ego, there was surely going to be nothing more satisfying than to test his limits, right?
“What if I don’t want to be yours?” you murmur, cocking an eyebrow.
If his eyes could darken, they do. A small crease forms between his eyebrows, grip on your arm growing impossibly stronger to the point you are sure it would leave bruises. As you struggle to free yourself, he spins you around, trapping you between the counter and himself.
“This attitude of yours,” Tom hisses, palm pressing down on the sides of your throat, “needs to be fixed.”
Your lips curl into a daring smirk. “Fix it, then.”
Tom scoffs at that, and you swear you hear him mumble “pathetic” before his hand leaves your throat and he drags you after him to your bedroom. He doesn’t even bother turning on any source of light, as though he had the layout of your entire house mapped out in his mind.
He most likely did.
After almost tripping on the stairs twice, you reach your bedroom, where you normally would now be peacefully reading. Whatever he was going to do with you instead surely wasn’t going to be much worse, though.
As soon as you enter, Tom lights a few candles you had in your room with his wand. He then pushes you down onto your knees by your shoulders, facing him as you sink down against the wall. “Should be grateful I am taking you to bed and not fuck you against the kitchen counter like you deserve.” he sneers, making quick work of his belt, his grey trousers slipping down, left to pool at his ankles before he steps out of them.
He doesn’t discard of his belt like you thought he would, no, instead he messily wraps it around your throat. With the loose end wrapped around his hand, he hauls you towards him, grinning tauntingly as he glances down at you. “Made you a new necklace. One you look even prettier in.” His free hand wipes across your cheek, and you close your eyes, waiting for the sting of his palm harshly landing on it. It never comes. “And now, you are going to be a good girl and open that mouth wide for me. Shouldn’t be too difficult considering what got you here in the first place.”
You nod, fingers eagerly hooking under the waistband of his briefs. Your eyes sparkle at the sight of his length, hard and swollen right in front of your face. He tugs on the leather, urging you to part your lips for him. First, you swirl your tongue around his tip, a low groan falling over the brunette’s lips as he watches you work his length into your mouth. He doesn’t allow you much time before he takes over, thrusting in and out of you at an increasingly harsh pace, fingers tangling in your hair.
Coughing and gagging noises fill your bedroom as the head of his cock repeatedly hits the back of your throat, hot tears streaming down your face at the foreign intrusion. “Come on. I know you can— fuck— take more than that, open up wider. Let me use that dirty mouth of yours.“
You try to relax your muscles as much as you can, and he slips further down your throat, your nose held flush against his lower abdomen as you struggle for breath. “Fuck— just like that—“ he keeps you there for a brief moment, firmly tugging on the leather wrapped around your neck. Spluttering around his length, your hand finds his thigh to tap on it, signalling for a break. With the hand he has buried in your hair, he yanks your head back, briefly letting you catch your breath before he thrusts back into your warm mouth with a groan.
You look up at him through your eyelashes, streaks of mascara running down the sides of your face and neck, staining the leather of his belt. His brows are drawn together, the prettiest sounds of pleasure falling over his full, slightly parted lips. Knuckles white from how tightly he is clutching onto the loose end of his belt. You feel yourself become lightheaded at the lack of blood circulating through your head, every cell in your body screaming for oxygen. Your tongue lays flat in your mouth, feeling the thick vein on the underside of his cock as it ruthlessly slips in and out of you.
Tom’s movements grow more erratic, feeling him twitch inside of you, a rosy flush colouring his otherwise pale cheeks. Though, before he gets the chance to reach his orgasm, he pulls out of you, a string of saliva connecting your swollen lips to his throbbing cock.
He breathes heavily, taking in your messy form beneath him. Make up runs down your face mixed with your tears, saliva trickling from the corners of your mouth. A satisfied smirk forms on his lips. “You look properly filthy like this. Just how I like it,” his hand leaves your hair, wiping over your damp cheeks, “and I am the only one who gets to see you like this, isn’t that right?” The brunette doesn’t wait for an answer, though.
Smack.
“Fuck— yes! Yes, only you!” you yelp as his palm harshly comes down on your cheek, leaving a burning sensation on your tear-soaked, sensitive skin. With your head tilted to the side, his finger hooks under your chin, making you look back up at him. “Good girl. Now, get up.” he instructs, nudging you with a tug on the leather around your neck.
You do as he says, legs wobbly and tingling as you get up, knees bruised. He has you stand against the wall, arm sneaking under your hips to adjust your posture, bending you over just slightly.
Smack, smack, smack.
This time it’s the flesh of your ass tingling painfully, having you hiss and lurch forward, though Tom is quick to readjust you, kneading the red spot in the shape of his hand imprinted on your skin.
“Spread your pretty legs for me,” he demands, his knee finding its way between your legs, nudging them apart. A shiver runs down your spine as his hand wanders over your waist down your stomach, finding your swollen clit. “God— Tom, please!” You cry as he skilfully draws circles on it.
“Patience.” he replies lowly, and as quick as it started, it ends. Instead, his fingers dip between your folds, a guttural groan falling over his lips as he feels your arousal on his them. “Fucking soaked for me. Pathetic girl.”
He doesn’t waste much time before two of his digits push into your slick entrance, working you open for him. It’s like he’s studied your body, fingertips massaging over your g-spot with every thrust of his hand. Hot pleasure rushes through your veins, walls greedily clenching down around him as you push your hips back against his fingers. Though, before you can reach your much needed release, he pulls out of you, having you whine in protest. One of his hand snakes around your throat, over the leather of his belt, as his tip finds its way between your folds. “You think you are ready for me?” Tom asks, his breath lingering hot on the side of your face as he leans in.
“God, Tom— stop teasing! Please, I need you.” you whimper, hips bucking against his cock.
“So fucking desperate,” he scoffs before thrusting his entire length into you at once, hips flush with the reddened skin of your ass as you gasp at the stretch he is providing you.
Tom lets you adjust briefly, before almost completely pulling out just to fully bury himself into your warm, soaked cunt again. He picks up his pace after that, having you jolt forward each time his hips snap into yours. “Gripping me so— fucking— tight. You were made for this, for me,” he hisses under shaky breaths, your combined moans filling the room. “No one else. You are mine. Fuck— Say it. Tell me who you belong to.”
“I am yours! God, Tom— All yours!” you almost scream, earning a low groan of approval from the brunette, his palm squeezing down tighter around your throat as you clench around him. The leather tangles between your breasts as he pounds into you, tip brushing against your sensitive cervix with every other thrust. An all too familiar feeling builds in the pits of your lower stomach, having your eyes roll to the back of your head, hot waves of pleasure having you dangerously close to the edge. So close to the release that you sought after so badly.
“You think you have—“ he hisses, “earned to come? Beg. I want you to fucking beg for it.”
A weak whimper falls over your lips, your mind all too hazy to really comprehend what he is demanding from you. His hand leaves your throat, having you sink against the cold wall again. “Do it. Beg. Beg like the slut you are.”
His rough treatment and the way his cock hits all the right spots inside of you has you see stars, and the only word you hear is beg. Fuck.
“T-Tom please, I can’t— please let me come. I am all yours, please!”
You feel him twitch inside of you, his thrusts growing erratic, and you know he is just as close as you are. One of his hands rubs circles on your clit once more, the other toying with your tits. “Come with me. Make a mess, filthy girl.”
That is all you need to hear until you convulse around him. A cry of pleasure falls over your lips as you reach your climax, your cunt eagerly pulsing around his thick length. As your knees threaten to give in, his arm finds its way around your waist, holding your spent body up for him. Tom soon follows after you with a grunt, emptying himself deep inside of your warm walls with one last thrust.
After pulling out of you, he lets your exhausted form rest on the silk duvet of your bed, placing a kiss on your forehead. Just like last time, he casts a cleaning spell first on himself, but then, on you too. With another wave of his wand, you both are dressed again.
When he is done, your eyes lock. Neither of you says anything for a moment, until you finally find your voice. “Don’t leave, please.” you whisper, yearning for his touch — touch that isn’t rough or painful, but touch that is soft and comforting.
“I wasn’t going to leave.” Tom replies, taking a seat next to you on the bed. “Consider your “date” next Tuesday cancelled. I am taking you out.”
“Where are we going?” You ask, a smirk creeping onto your face as you sit back up.
“It’s a surprise. You’ll like it.”
He swipes a strand of hair out of your face, his gaze lowering to your neck. “So where is the necklace?”
You had placed it in your jewellery box when you took it off. “It’s downstairs.”
He mumbles two words, one of which you make out to be “necklace”. As soon as those words leave his lips, the silver chain lies on his palm, the green stone shimmering in the dim candlelight. He places it around your neck and closes the clasp. “As long as you wear the necklace, you have a piece of me with you. Take good care of it. It was my mother’s.”
”Of course,” you nod, closing your palm over the green gem. As you do, a warm sensation radiates from the stone.
It’s not long until your exhaustion gets the better of you, and you drift off to sleep. Tom stays with you throughout the night, though when you wake up in the morning, he is long gone. You find a cup of hot tea on your nightstand, your favourite, and a note that reads the following:
Be ready at 5 on Tuesday.
And remember to stay away from him. I am watching you, sweetheart.

Infection (Arthur Nightingale X Reader)
My Masterlist
You can't get sick...right? You're a child of the void, immune to simple bacterial viruses. But yet when you pull into the Mall's garage one day, head throbbing and body aching, you can't help but wonder if that's actually true. To make matters even worse you've been so busy running errands and missions for the Hex that you haven't been keeping an eye on the calendar; it's closer to the end of the time loop than you thought. Arthur's the first to remind you, and the first to notice your change in health.
(WARNINGS) - Graphic Descriptions of Flu like symptoms - Female Drifter (she/her pronouns used)
Guess who got sick right before new years eve and wrote this as a way to make themselves feel better because they're missing out on all the fun parties
I'm still getting a grasp on Arthur's character and I also wrote this while extremely sick so sorry for any mistakes/out-of-character moments
Banners by @strangergraphics
The mission had gone as usual, no kinks or hiccups, smooth sailing as you and your squad mowed down techrot hoard after hoard, the smell of burnt acid and chitin-filled technological carapaces burying the under levels of the old mall. But at some point, your trigger finger began to lag, your steps became staggered and you could feel phantom sweat coat your forehead from within the safety of your warframe. You were falling behind. They wouldn’t leave you, but they wouldn't wait for you either. So you forced your feet to keep moving, willing the energy to keep flowing through your warframe to fend off the techrot surrounding you. By the time you made it back to the garage, you wanted to collapse.
You left your frame next to your atomicycle, not having the energy to pilot the suit even another step. The bundle of supplies you had brought back for the Hex felt like a bag of concrete on your shoulder, threatening to topple you over as your knees screamed in protest, your muscles aching right down to your bones. You were so ready to just trudge up to the backroom and fall into the nearest couch you could find. Luckily, by some small grace, help had arrived. You heard the sliding doors that separated the garage from the rest of the mall glide open, metallic footsteps clicking against the tile floor.
“You’re not usually gone this long. Everything go alright?” You heard him ask, his accent coating over the forming headache in the back of your mind like warm drizzled honey.
You sighed. You didn’t want to snap at him, but you were in so. Much. Pain. Standing on your feet physically hurt. “Everything went fine, Arthur. Can you take these and distribute them, please? I need to...lie down. For a moment.” You kept your voice sweet and plastered a soft smile on your face as you handed the bag of supplies in his direction. He hesitated, his brow furrowing as he studied you. He knew you; ever since you had first arrived you never stopped, never slowed down, always bouncing to the next mission or next bounty, so why now, of all times, were you stopping to take a rest? There was something off, but it was so hard to tell with you. You weren’t built like him, or like he used to be anyway, you weren’t exactly human. He couldn’t read you like he could other people.
“Are you…feeling alright, love?” He took the bag from you, lessening the weight on your body, and immediately you sighed in relief. Your eyes flickered to the door, eager to book it towards the backroom now that you were free from your last responsibility and could finally crash, but Arthur stood in your way, and it was clear he had no intention of moving until you answered his question.
“I’m fine, really. I’m immune to everything, remember? Child of the void and all that. I’m just tired. After some sleep I’ll be right back to normal, promise. You worry too much.” You spoke quickly and then kissed him on the cheek, getting a satisfactory answer out as fast as possible and leaving him no room to argue as you dashed off towards the door. Hopefully, he wouldn’t chase you down so you could actually take that nap you so desperately wanted.
You made it to the backroom in record time, flopping face-first onto the nearest soft surface you could find and passing out as soon as your head made contact.
It wasn’t long though before you woke up retching, a wet cough rattling your chest and scratching your throat on the way out. You groaned, sitting up and leaning back against the back of the couch. You blinked against the lights above you, pulling the blanket that covered your arms up over your head…which definitely hadn’t been there when you had fallen asleep. You poked an eye out, looking around the room, but no one else was there with you. Well, no other people. Your eyes landed on your kubrow who had snuggled up next to the foot of the couch nearest you, curled into a ball, a note laid next to their feet. You reached down to pick it up, scritching their fur as a reward for safeguarding the note for you when you did so. They sighed contently in response.
The white of the paper was blinding to your straining eyes, your headache having only increased from earlier, and his fancy scrawled handwriting didn’t help -you figured it had to be a Britannic thing, Eleanor wrote the same way-, but you managed to decode the note.
You looked cold. Text me when you wake up, team’s taken off the rest of today. I’m all yours. -A
You couldn’t help but smile underneath your little blanket cocoon. It took an extraordinary amount of effort but you stood up, your knees wobbled and your back ached but you willed yourself to stay upright, stumbling your way over to your POM-2 PC. You pushed the on button, the screen flickering to life, making you outwardly hiss as the blue light assaulted your eyes and shot to the very back of your skull like a laser. But you pushed forward, ignoring the pain, and clicked on Arthur’s chatbox.
Hey, A <3
Broadsword is typing…
You’re awake. I take it you got my note then?
I did. Something special going on I don’t know about? You never let the team take days off.
Broadsword is typing…
Check your calendar, love.
Broadsword has gone offline.
You squinted in confusion, a small flash of panic grabbing hold of your heart. Had you forgotten something important? You clicked off of the chat page and onto the built-in calendar with the PC, the boxes flashing onto the screen. They were all greyed out, you had reached the end of another month, nothing special there. But then you saw it. December on the top of the screen. December 31st. Today was the end of the time loop. New Year’s Eve.
Metallic footsteps sounded off of the wooden floorboards behind you. You were still facing the PC, dumbstruck by your discovery, nothing but a mass of blanket from his point of view. He came up behind you and snaked his hands around your waist, slotting his head into the crook of your neck, though he was met with a mess of fluffy blanket instead of your warm skin. His eyes flicked between your face and the PC’s screen still brought up on the greyed-out calendar. “Figure out what today is, then?” He whispered.
You leaned back into Arthur’s chest, the heat radiating off of his warframe a welcoming comfort through your blanket.“I didn’t realize.” You spoke, answering his question, but yet you didn’t recognize your own voice. Your eyes widened at the unexpected sound, a hoarse croaking noise as the words scratched out of your throat. Arthur pulled his head away from your shoulder and spun you around as soon as he heard it too, forcing you to face him, his hands now on your shoulders and a concerned look on his face as his brow furrowed. A chill ran over your body at the abrupt removal of his warmth from your back, causing you to shiver, a motion that didn’t go unnoticed by Arthur. He was looking over you, studying you. You pulled the blanket closer around you, becoming sheepish under his gaze. He took in everything he hadn’t noticed before in addition to your recent shiver and scratchy voice; the way your eyes seemed to sink into your face surrounded by dark circles, the unusual dullness in your complexion, and the way both your shoulders and your spine seemed to slump towards the floor as if the weight of a million bricks rested upon you.
A small smirk crawled over his face, his assumptions from earlier now being undeniably confirmed. “So, ‘child of the void that’s immune to everything’ huh?”
You sniffled, sticking your nose into the air. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Your voice scratched out like a destroyed record, the words catching in your throat and making you hack and cough, breaking whatever semblance of composure you were trying to feign. You brought your elbow up to your face to catch the cough, the fuzzy blanket encompassing everything as you moved. Arthur carefully dug his fingers into the muscles of your shoulders and neck as you coughed and retched up the fluid in your lungs, the gentle pressure a soothing distraction from the pain coating your throat with every new breath you took. Eventually, you stopped, now looking exhausted from the effort, and you couldn’t help but collapse against his chest, your head finding the crook of his neck. Your breathing became ragged against the metal platings and exo-flesh of his neck, though he couldn’t feel it the sound of it alone made concern worm its way to his heart. He didn’t think about it often, he didn’t want to unless he had to, honestly; but moments like this were blatant reminders of just how fragile you were compared to him. He sighed and curled his arms around you, holding you against him and running his hands up and down your back comfortingly. “Hm. Sounds to me like you’re sick, if I had to guess.”
“Ugh.” Was all you could muster for a response, the sound reverberated through your chest instead of your already painful throat. He reached down and hooked his hands under your thighs, pulling you up and bundling you into his arms so he could carry you. You made no protest to his actions, immediately wrapping your legs and arms around his torso, albeit weakly. He carried you back over to the couch, settling down with you in his lap, the blanket not forgotten about and cocooned around your shoulders. You huddled into the warmth radiating off of his mechanical body as another shiver crawled over your spine, causing you to shake. He let his hands roam your back absentmindedly, working his fingers against your muscles gently and every so often letting one of them wander upwards towards your hair, carding his fingers through the strands soothingly.
Though the quiet moment didn’t last for long as his ears twitched, picking up the sound of footsteps coming up the metal staircase that separated your living space from your workshop. He instinctively tensed, his eyes whipping to the doorway as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, ready to protect you at a second's notice. The mall was a safe zone, he knew that in the back of his mind, but he always prepared for the worst. The need to protect you, especially now given how weak you were in your current state, greatly outweighed any rationality to his thoughts. You were oblivious to everything happening, your eyes long since being closed ever since he had sat down with you.
“You two are adorable.” He heard in his head, his guard dropping as he saw both his sister and Aoi poke around the corner. She had been listening when his instincts had kicked in.
He rolled his eyes. “Don’t you two knock?”
“Don’t you two answer your comms?” He heard in his head again, a teasing smile on Eleanor’s face.
“Didn’t hear them go off. Sorry.” He explained.
“You, not paying attention to your comms? What’s got you so sidetracked?” Aoi retorted, though her face showed she was teasing as well. Eleanor, however, had already found the answer to Aoi’s question. Her face fell when she saw you clinging onto Arthur’s chest, your breathing harsh and unnatural and your hair plastered to your forehead by sweat. She knelt down in front of him, studying you for signs of something she had long since forgotten even existed.
“Is she sick?” She asked him telepathically.
Aoi had also heard the question, catching up on the details laid out before her. She sat down on the other side of the couch, her brow furrowing and a small frown adorning her lips. “Can she even get sick?”
“Apparently,” Eleanor answered in their minds, half sarcastically. “Is there anything we can do?”
“What could we do? We don’t have a cure, she’s in no condition to go back to her time and retrieve one, that’s even if they’ve discovered one.” He ran through options in his head, none of them seeming feasible.
“So…what? We just let it run its course? She seems…miserable.” Aoi’s voice was laced with sympathy. You had done so much for them, it felt awful not being able to help you in return.
“I don’t think we have any other choice, unfortunately.” They could hear the pang of guilt in Eleanor’s words as they echoed in their heads, her lips parting in a regretful sigh as she stood up.
“What did you two stop by here for, anyway?” He asked, his eyes flicking to you as you shifted in his arms, but you were still fast asleep.
“We were going to gather in the commons to celebrate the countdown, you know, since we avoided annihilation and all that this year, we figured why not, and we were going to ask if you and Drifter wanted to join us, but…” Aoi explained, her voice trailing off towards the end as her eyes landed on the bundle of blanket that was you in Arthur’s lap.
“I doubt she’d feel up to a party and I’d rather not leave her here alone, so if it’s all the same to you lot I think I’ll stay here with her for the night.” Both women gave him looks of understanding to his reply, but as soon as Arthur had answered your eyes fluttered open and your head shot up, instantly causing you to go dizzy from your sudden movement and you had to place a hand against his chest to stabilize yourself. But that didn’t stop you.
“No, Arthur, you should go.” You looked at him, your words croaking out just the same as they had before, startling the two women who hadn’t heard the severity of your sickness yet.
“I’m not leaving you here by yourself.” He retorted, brown and white eyes burrowing into yours. He knew it was selfish to argue with you when you were less than healthy, you stood no chance at winning, but he didn’t care. Not when it came to looking after you.
Eleanor and Aoi took that as their cue to leave before the conversation got any more heated. “If you do decide to join us, you know where you can find us,” Aoi told the two of you before standing up and making way for the door.
“Take care of her,” Eleanor told her brother inside of his head, a message only he could hear, as she followed Aoi out.
You waited until you heard the familiar click of the backroom door shutting before trying to bicker with the man in front of you. “You deserve to celebrate.” You told him, fighting against the hoarseness in your throat to get your point across.
“And you don’t? We'd still be dead on the floor of that reactor room if you hadn’t intervened. I won’t leave you here to celebrate alone if I have a say about it.” He brushed the sweat-stricken hair off of your forehead as he spoke.
You huffed, the noise sounding more like a wheeze. “You’re stubborn, Nightingale.” You wanted to cross your arms, to pout, to argue back and force him to spend time with his friends instead of wasting his night away in a stuffy old room. But you barely had enough energy to keep your head up as it was.
He couldn’t help but laugh, a ghost of a smile gracing his lips. “So I’ve been told.”
You didn’t remember falling back asleep, or even when you had laid your head back down onto Arthur’s shoulder, but the next thing you knew he was gently squeezing your hand, trying to wake you. You stirred for a moment, your eyelids fluttering as you came back to reality. “Wake up, love.” You heard him whisper into your ear. But it was then that all of the pain came flooding back, hitting you all at once. You groaned, feeling the stiffness in your bones and the aches throbbing in your muscles. Though you were grateful that your headache had at least subsided, you discovered that your throat still felt like sandpaper every time you swallowed, causing you to wince from the pain. You slowly raised your head up, coming face to face with Arthur. He had a small smile stuck on his face and you were caught off guard when he tilted his head and kissed you, his lips gentle against yours, as if too much pressure would shatter you like glass. You quickly leaned into it though, weakly wrapping an arm around his neck and inwardly smiling as you felt his hair tickle your cheekbones. He pulled away far too soon for your liking. “Happy New Year, love.”
You blinked in confusion for a moment before turning your head towards your POM-2; sure enough, the usual black screen was now flashing big green numbers, “00:00”. The loop had been completed. Soon it would all start again. Whether or not Arthur would still be there with you come morning was now a decision left in your hands.

we back with another request⁉️
can be old or young (mk11 or mk1) johnny your pick, but what if fem!reader and johnny are sparring (likely in private, but if they wanna be risky go ahead) and reader is losing.
sooo, she flashes him her titties as a distraction and ends up getting him pinned. you can turn it into smut or end it there, your pick
love your writing 💙💙
DEAR GOD YOURE SO FUCKING RIGHT ALL THE TIME ILY, i had a SLIIIIGHTLY different image for this so HEAR ME OUT
johnny cage > eyes on the prize
warnings: Oh, these? My boobies? My massive fucking titties? My super stuffed milkies? My honker bonker doinky boinkies? My fucking fabric stretching wind flapping gravity welling sex mounds? You mean these super duper ultra hyper god damn motherfucking tits?
[ part 2 ] [ masterlist ]
after the time merger, your boss seems uneasy seeing his younger self parade around the compound like he owns the place. you're unfortunately put up to the task as babysitting him.
"private," the older counterpart summons you to the center of the room. "keep an eye on him for me, yeah? he's... well, he's me, and i don't trust him one bit." you both glance over to younger johnny, who is kicking his feet up and browsing IMDB - his own page, to be specific - with no regard for authority. you nod and walk off, approaching the younger star who doesn't notice you at first.
"mr. cage," you try to get his attention, leaning down to his level as he sits. johnny tears his eyes away from the screen to catch a good look at you in your uniform, pulling his sunglasses down his hooked nose. "captain cage requested i accompany you around the compound for safety as the time merge is figured out."
"oh, i'll follow you anywhere, beautiful," he replies smoothly, clicking and winking up at you. your face heats up, this is your... almost-boss. this version wasn't with sonya, doesn't have a kid. a part of you wonders if your present johnny also finds you attractive if this is how his younger version behaves. you'd always found him hot, but that was something you kept to yourself for the sake of his family and your career.
johnny snaps in your face with a twisted expression. "hey, since you're here, the future sucks! i've been here for an hour and i haven't seen one jetpack. not one!" he holds a finger in your face, and you can't help but stare down at him in bewilderment. how did this man become the captain of the special forces??
his complaints sprout an idea, as you try to divert his annoyance. "the special forces compound contains plenty of advanced technology. would you care for a tour?" you suggest politely, gesturing out of the room.
johnny seems intrigued by your offer, willing to follow you around like a dog if it meant getting a good view of your ass the whole way. it's your figure that intrigues him the most.
"older me was a dumbass for not tappin' this," johnny very loudly exclaims as you two walk down a hallway, making you pinch the bridge of your nose. "i might have to alter my destiny... there's no way you fight with a pretty body like that."
"the members of S.F. are put through extensive physical training and discipline. i can fight, mr. cage," you reply curtly, not all too impressed by his catcalling, though his boldness amuses you.
"yeah?" he asks playfully, jogging in front of you to walk backwards as he glares at you through his shades. "care to prove it? you lose, you give me your number."
"and if you lose?" you question, crossing your arms.
"then i give you my number." jesus, he was dumb. hot, but dumb. it was impossibly hard to remain professional in front of him. you entertain his bait and open a side door that led to the garage. it was spacious and full of various tools, vehicles and weapons. the crew often met there for mass debriefs and announcements, but served as a perfect sparring location.
"you're on, dollface," johnny sneers, readying himself with an overdramatic flourished war cry. "but first, no handicaps. take all that off." he waves at your vest and various equipment strapped to you. you shake your head and sigh, readying your own pose after shrugging the extremities off and kicking them to the side. it was johnny in his coat giving you a delicious view of his chest, and you in your skin-tight underclothes. you figured regardless you'd have an advantage against johnny considering you were familiar with his fighting style, but his strength outmatched you easily. he was twice your size in muscle, after all. didn't really matter just how much studying you put into his mannerisms in combat.
his powers proved to be a significant advantage as well, doubling his strikes when most humans could only land one in the time it took. each punch you threw was parried embarrassingly easily, and each kick was matched with an even swifter swing.
despite being military trained, you couldn't help but find the fight fun. johnny would grab hold of you and spin you around, as if you were dancing, or flash one of his signature smiles at you when he felt more in charge. he'd cackle when you made a fool of yourself, swinging at nothing.
one of his backflip kicks infused with his powers knocked you straight on your ass, and johnny towers over you with a devilish grin. his legs are spread, with you on the floor between them as you catch your breath.
"do you yield, sweet thing?" he asks, bending forward to hover his face over yours. you cringe, holding your side as you try to get up, but johnny just places his boot on your chest. "you were all bark and no bite, sweetheart."
as you regain your composure, thoroughly displeased with the outcome of the battle, you get an absolutely evil idea.
"how about you get a bite of these?" you ask, smirking. your fingers find the hem of your shirt and pull upward, revealing your bra and your breasts spilling from the fabric as you lay on your back. the chill of the room defines the shape of your nipples through the bra, and johnny's eyes fixate - hard. his sunglasses comically slide down his nose and clatter to the floor, his puppy eyes wide and wanting at the sight of your barely clothed chest.
when you know for a fact he's transfixed, you swat his foot off of your chest and curl your body before placing a hard upward kick into his balls, making him yell out and stumble backward.
you stand up and brush yourself off, beaming at the actor for besting him at his own shallow game.
"you - ngh -" johnny whines and clutches his crotch, pointing a finger at you accusingly. "i yield."
you shrug innocently, reaching a hand out to him considering your positions were now fully swapped. "gotta keep your eyes on the prize, cage."
you hoist him up with a grunt, patting his shoulder.
"oh, believe me," he breathlessly chuckles. "i was." he smiles crookedly.
...did you just flash your soon-to-be-boss? is this gonna alter the timeline...?

Spoiler took her cue about five minutes after Batman left for the Watchtower to ride into the Cave. The heroes were with Robin by the display of their costumes, paying special respect to Jason's memorial. She made sure to rev the engine of her bike further down the tunnel to announce her arrival.
"Spoiler," Robin greeted her after she'd parked and pulled off her helmet. "These are some of the heroes in the Justice League. They were invited by Batman and Nightwing to come see the Cave."
Spoiler grinned widely at the group, "Hey! Nice to meet you all, I'm Spoiler." She'd never met the group during her few months as Robin, but her suit sta proudly between Tim's and Damian's.
"We weren't aware that there was another hero working in Gotham," Martian Manhunter nodded to her in greeting.
She gasped, her right hand moving do sit directly on the purple bat on her chest. "There are heroes operating in Gotham?" At the confused looks from the group, she cackled and dropped her hand to sit on her hip, leaning her weight more onto her left foot. "We're vigilantes in Gotham. We work outside the law, not alongside it."
"But, Batman-"
"-works with the law when working with the Justice League," Robin cut Cyborg off, successfully pulling everyone's attention to him.
As soon as their eyes were off of her, Cass switched out with her. It was seamless. SpoilerBat (Cass as Spoiler) emerged from her place in the darkest shadows of the Batplane, tapping Spoiler on the shoulder and pointing to the training room. She caught Robin's eye as Spoiler left, nodding and using the LoA signs to tell him the switch was done.
Robin nodded and continued his explanation of the displays, not naming anyone. "Batman's suits are all lined up on the upper tier. He improves them based on his needs and the changes of technology he has at his disposal, resulting in the nine suits you see, as well as the tenth that he's currently wearing. Robin's and Batgirl's suits are lined upon the middle tier. From left to right we have Robin 1, Batgirl 1, Robin 2," He didn't mention that this one was obviously a memorial. "Batgirl 2, Robin 3, Robin 4, Batgirl 3, Batgirl 4, Robin 5.1, Robin 5.2, Robin 5.3, Robin 5.4, and Robin 5.5." He adjusted his stance as SpoilerBat came to stand next to him.
"The lower tier are suits for others in Gotham," she explained, expertly ignoring the whispers about her being a different person a few minutes ago, "Same order: Discowing, Nightwing 1, Nightwing 2, Nightwing 3, Nightwing 4, Redwing, and Nightwing 5." she pointed as she named them, skipping over all five of Jason's suits, as well as the sixth empty one for his current costume, "Red Robin 0, Red Robin 1, Red Robin 2, Red Robin 3, Red Robin, 4, Drake, Red Robin 5, Spoiler, Black Bat, Orphan, Signal." Of the named suits, four suits were missing; Nightwing 5, Red Robin 5, Robin 5.5, and Spoiler.
Because the stealth suits were made specifically to be stealthy, they were never displayed in the open. Instead, they were kept in the locker rooms. No one who didn't know they had them knew any of them were even missing.
"Why are there so many?" Superman wondered.
"We all operate out of the Batcave." Robin stated as though it were obvious, "Our costumes change as we need them to."
"So," Flash began, getting close to the displays but no touching them, "Who all shares costumes? Or do they all belong to different people?"
Robin and SpoilerBat shared a quick look, neither wanting to explain. Let them think what they want. Skewing the numbers via omission will only help their plans along, as well as work to keep their identities.
Moving on, Robin told of how the penny and the dinosaur had come to be in the Cave. He warned to keep away from the edges because of the chasm.
"Chasm?" Aquaman had a smirk on his face, "Why do you need a chasm?"
"To keep the dragons." Robin said. he and SpoilerBat led the way to the garage. "The platform the Batplane rises and lowers as needed. The area above it is a door that can only be opened via remote in the plane itself or via command on the Batcomputer. Over there is the garage. The Batmobile, the Batcycle, the Wingcycle, Ricochet, the Redbird, the Batpod, the Spoilermobile, and Spoiler's motorcycle. Honestly, he turned to SpoilerBat, speaking to Spoiler, "You still haven't named your motorcycle?"
SpoilerBat shrugged.
Green Arrow took his time to look over every present vehicle. "Impressive. None of these are mainstream."
"That's because they're all custom made." Robin preened.
"Really?" Flash asked, bouncing like an excited puppy, "Which one's yours, little man?"
Robin scowled, but didn't address the name. "The Batcycle is the one I am permitted to use. Although, Batman has given his consent for me to drive the Batmobile in case of emergencies."
Cyborg was looking over Ricochet, Red Hood's bike, closely. "This doesn't look like any of the others."
"How do you mean?" SpoilerBat tilted her head slightly to the right.
"It's got the obvious base of a Harley Davidson," he pointed out, "It's also a lot less tech focused than the others."
"The second Robin build that bike from scratch," Robin said shortly, "Do not touch it."
"Right, sorry."
SpoilerBat decided to lead the way to the training area. Robin followed behind the group.
The training area was a clump of four offshoots from the main area of the lower level of the Batcave. The widest area was full of standard gym equipment. In the offshoot to the left was a taller cavern full of gymnastics equipment. The offshoot to the right was weapons training. The offshoot directly across from the main area was for sparring matches on mats or in the ring.
Wonder Woman regarded the gymnastics set up with a keen eye. "You all are trained, yes?" SpoilerBat nodded. "Can we see a routine?"
"Sure," SpoilerBat said. She stepped up to the starting point of the obstical course they had yet to take down from last week. Taking a deep breath, she began. About halfway through, she was out of the heroes' sight long enough to land in the rafters that Duke, Tim, and Steph and occupied temporarily. When she landed, Steph jumped down to continue the routine as Spoiler.
Having finished the routine, Spoiler landed, breathed again, and then jogged to rejoin Robin and the Justice League. A minute nod from the littlest bat let her know that the visiting heroes didn't see the switch. "So, what'dya think?"
Green Lantern did a double take. After a few false starts, he finally managed, "Are-are you a different person?"
Spoiler tilted her head to the right in a perfect imitation of Cass. "What're ya talking about? I'm the same me you met!"
Green Lantern didn't say anything more, choosing instead to follow the others as they explored the sparring mats and the weapons room.
Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter were the ones to take the most interest in this room. The wall on either side of the opening was dedicated to storing all kinds of weapons. The left side of the wall directly opposite the opening was a shooting range for all kinds of ranged weapons. The rest of the room housed training dummies.
"Let me guess," Aquaman admired the shorter ranged weapons, "You all forged these on your own, as well?"
Robin scoffed and crossed his arms. "Of course not. The swords were gifted to me by the finest of swordsmiths. The daggers as well."
"Yeah," Spoiler nodded along, "The only ones we actually produced are the Bird and Batarangs."
"Where do you get the materials?" Martian Manhunter inquired, holding one of the Batarangs to the light.
"There wasn't always a chasm." Red Robin said from where Robin had been standing. The Justice League heroes all whipped to look at him, dropping into ready stances. Red Robin held his hands up but didn't flinch or move back otherwise. "Whoa there, calm down. What spooked ya."
"Where's Robin?" Superman demanded.
Red Robin and Spoiler looked at each other. "What'd ya mean?" she asked, "He's right here."
"No," Flash looked between the two, around the room, and then back to Red Robin, "Robin is a child. You, decidedly, are not."
Red Robin huffed. "Are you okay? 'Cause I've been here the whole time?"
"Really?" Superman asked.
"Yeah," Red Robin crossed his arms. "Spoiler can vouch for me."
"Ah, but she can't!" Green Lantern pointed as though he'd caught them in a trap. "She's been switched out with someone else!"
Again, the two Gothamites shared a look behind their masks. "Alright," Red Robin shrugged, "This is an enclosed space with exactly one accessible exit-" if you don't know your way around, that is, "-if we were being switched out, where would they hide and why wouldn't Superman have been able to hear them?"
The answer is the sheer number of bats. The rafters are high and hidden enough in the ceilings that they blend in with the natural formations. The bats hang from the rafters. Because there are so many of the animals, and because of their training and spite, the Batfam have been able to hide their heartbeats within the throws of bats'. Superman's hearing would be able to pick up any sound that doesn't match with the nocturnal animals. The flutter of a cape could easily be the flutter of a bat's wings. The heartbeats that are slightly too slow are easily taken to be an older, sleeping bat. Movement is just a bat that's been disturbed.
The heroes were all quiet as Superman listened intently. Then, after a few minutes, he sighed and shook his head. "I can't hear anything out of the ordinary."
"But-!" Flash tried.
Red Robin shook his head. "If you guys are too paranoid about being here, we can take you back to the Zeta Tubes. I don't think we'd be able to convince B to let you come back here, though."
"No," Wonder Woman composed herself, "We apologise. Please, continue."
Hesitant, RR turned to take them to the large med bay. "Alright, if you're sure."

Dove (part two)
Part one here. Leon Kennedy x fem reader Slow, slow burn, mostly fluff tbh

--
Leon’s lying on the couch, an arm bent behind his head and staring at the living room ceiling when his watch beeps, signaling the 0500-perimeter check. There are security cameras outside that will send a notification to his phone, but technology isn’t infallible so he prefers a sweep with his own eyes every four hours or so when he’s on protection detail. He heaves himself upright, wincing a little when his back protests. Hell, maybe he’s getting a little old to be sleeping on sofas. He picks up his gun off the coffee table and checks the cartridge, more out of habit than anything else – hasn’t shot a bullet this mission.
He makes his way over to the garage door, casting his eyes over your bedroom door as he does so. You won’t be awake for a few more hours, not after those sleeping pills, so he’s not trying to be particularly quiet when he unlocks the door, steps through and locks it once more behind him. He walks around the side of the SUV towards the garage shutter itself next, unlocks the padlock and lifts it up to step out into the cool night air.
The safe house is located a few miles out from a village on old farm land, tucked away down a rural lane. No nosey neighbors to question why there are no people living there most of the year. He went round the perimeter anti-clockwise upon arrival, so he’ll go clockwise this time, flashlight in one hand and gun aimed in the other. He’d been at home for a change when Hunnigan had called him – first person she thought of when she’d seen Lickers on the partial CCTV footage that had been salvaged. For a building housing the DSO’s surveillance division, Leon hadn’t been particularly impressed by quality of the CCTV images. Grainy, staggered frames of the creatures tearing up the office and people apart, leaving only destruction in their wake. And you, breathing but dazed, buried under lockers at the bottom of the stairwell and, somehow, the only survivor.
He completes his round at 0525, nothing significant to note and heads back inside, unlocking and locking doors behind him.
At 0600, his phone vibrates in his pocket – a steady rhythm denoting it’s a phone call, not a message or notification and, really, there’s only one person who will be calling him so he doesn’t even bother to check the caller ID.
“Morning, Hunnigan. What did the night bring?”
“Nothing substantial. We’re still trying to establish the full timeline. Seems like the footage we salvaged yesterday might be all we are going to get CCTV-wise.”
“Did you send a team out to Dove’s?”
“Won’t have the manpower till this afternoon. Why – do you have suspicions?”
“No, not at all.” He replies. “I just… I think it’ll put her at ease to know we’re not treating her as a suspect.”
“Did you question her?” Hunnigan sounds skeptical and he hears her tap away on her keyboard. “I haven’t received your report if so.”
“No, not yet. It was late when we arrived – she was tired, in pain, terrified. I didn’t think questioning her then would go down particularly well or be helpful. Gave her painkillers and sleeping pills. I’ll broach it after breakfast, maybe.”
“Broach it?”
“See how she’s feeling, I mean. Last night after we got in the car, she was all one-word answers, a couple of sentences here and there.” Leon sighs, rubs the bridge of his nose. “I just don’t wanna scare her off.”
“If she’s got nothing to hide, there’s nothing for her to be scared of. Do your job and don’t get sweet on her.”
“Why can’t a guy do both?” He laughs.
“Leon – I expect that report today.”
The smile drops and he nods, as if she could see him. “Yes, ma’am.”
--
It takes a few attempts to open your eyes, blearily staring up at an unfamiliar ceiling in the morning light that filters in around the curtain. Your mouth is horrendously dry – a side effect from the sleeping pills, perhaps. Your whole body aches with stiff, bruised limbs.
But you’re alive, you remind yourself, when so many others aren’t.
Leon had been right at least – the sleeping pills had knocked you out into a dreamless sleep, though you don’t feel particularly rested.
You sit up in the bed tenderly, immediately thinking of painkillers. There’s no thought of getting changed, making yourself presentable. The man helped you strip last night, hell, he might think you’re a murderer, what does it matter if you leave the bedroom in a long t-shirt that shows a perhaps indecent amount of leg?
You open the door cautiously, unsure if Leon might still be sleeping on the couch, but it’s empty. Not a pillow or blanket in sight. The bathroom door is open, so he’s not in there. Your eyes move next to the door to the garage – maybe he’s gone to the SUV, would he sleep in there?
You turn slowly on the spot, trying to work out if there’s another door you’d missed in the blur of last night, but there’s the three – bathroom, bedroom, garage…
Wait. Your stomach sinks in realization.
Where’s the front door?
Is it a safe house thing? But surely that limits exit options if you’re trapped in here.
Or maybe that’s what they want.
Maybe you’ll graduate to a safe house with a front door when they don’t suspect you of being involved. You’ll ask Leon, you think, when he comes back from wherever he is. He seems nice, or nice enough. Been nothing but a gentleman, genuinely caring about your wellbeing… But maybe that’s all an act. An uncomfortable sensation reminds you that you need to use the facilities after a night of medicated sleep, so you head into the bathroom and lock the door.
All doubts about his sincerity are thrown out of the reinforced window once you see what’s on the counter.
There are two toothbrushes – one in a mug he’s pilfered from the kitchen after you’d smashed the container last night, and one’s lying flat on the counter, toothpaste pre-squeezed upon its bristles.
Sweet.
--
You emerge from the bathroom, teeth cleaned and find Leon stepping through the garage door.
“Oh, morning.” He smiles, shuts the door firmly behind him. You can see he looks a little tired around the eyes.
“Morning.”
“I didn’t think you’d be up for a few more hours. How are you feeling?”
“A bit sore.” He can tell you’re lying about the ‘bit’ - trying to put on a brave face. “What time even is it? I don’t have my phone… or a watch.”
“Ah,” he looks down at his own as if he doesn’t already know from his 0900 check. “Nearly half nine. Did you sleep all right?”
You nod. “No dreams. Was the sofa okay?”
“Yeah, one of the better ones.” He turns to the door and you hear a click before he steps away, heading into the kitchen.
Locked in.
“Where were you?”
“Outside. Perimeter check – all good.”
“Oh.” You pause, feeling like you know the answer before you can even ask it. “Can I go outside?”
His face falls in apology. “Sorry. Not at the moment - protocol. Wouldn’t want to risk anything.”
“Yeah, makes sense, I guess.” You continue standing awkwardly, a combination of not knowing what to do with yourself and hesitant to move knowing it’s going to hurt. “Erm, sorry, where did you put those painkillers?”
His face remains apologetic, though you’re not sure why. “We should get you some food in your first. I really shouldn’t have given you all those pills last night on an empty stomach.”
“I couldn’t have eaten anyway.”
“Understandable.” He ducks down below the counter and opens a cupboard, standing upright and placing a box of oats on the counter. “I’m afraid breakfast choices are a little limited. Oatmeal okay?”
“You cook too?”
“I’d say describing me as a cook is a stretch. We’ve got some fruit as well, but I think oatmeal will be best for those pills.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Coffee or tea?”
“Coffee, please.” You remain standing in place. “Erm, can I… do anything?”
“Nah, I’ve got it all handled.” He calls over his shoulder as he grabs some mugs out of a cupboard – doesn’t have to open a few before he can locate what he’s looking for as you would have to in a vacation rental. “Go ahead and sit down. Might’ve noticed this place is sans dining table, so coffee table will have to do.”
You walk slowly over to the couch, your muscles aching with protest. The bruises are far darker on your legs today than yesterday and, boy, do you feel it. You sit down delicately on the sofa, before tucking your knees up underneath out of habit, reaching for a throw pillow and clutching onto it pathetically.
You don’t know where your thoughts drift off to as you stare at the TV opposite despite it being off – it’s like your brain just temporarily switched off, until a single word reboots it.
“Honey?”
“Huh?” Where had that come from? Was it…? “I thought we went with Dove.”
Leon laughs – can’t help himself. “No, no, sorry. I meant, would you like honey on your oatmeal? Codename’s still Dove, as far as I know. I don’t come up with them.”
“Oh,” you feel your face grow a little hot. “Y-yeah, please.”
A few moments later he approaches the coffee table, steaming mug of coffee in one hand and a bowl of oatmeal in the other, complete with spoon. He places it down in front of you with a flourish.
“Order’s up.”
There’s an attempt at what looks like a smiley face drawn in honey atop the oatmeal.
“Thank you.” You can’t help the amused tone that enters your voice.
“Yeah, sorry,” he rubs the back of his head. “I can’t do fancy drizzles like the restaurants so that’s the best I could come up with. I’ll just go grab your pills, but dig in.”
You lean forward and spoon a small scoop up and force it into your mouth. Your appetite is still missing in action but you know you need something. A metal clang draws your attention from behind and you turn your head, seeing Leon fiddling with what looks like a metal lockbox. He opens it and pulls out the canister of the painkillers and shakes two out in his hand, before closing the box and locking it. You turn back, take another scoop of oatmeal and swallow, hoping it gets rid of the bitter taste of distrust in your mouth.
He's in front of you again, hand outstretched, but you can’t help yourself.
“Why are the painkillers locked away?”
“Protocol.” He doesn’t meet your eyes.
“Really?”
“I’m afraid so.” There’s a pause. Leon knows what you’re thinking and he hates it – he knows what it’s like to be scared, not trust anyone around you and he desperately doesn’t want to be that to you. “It’s mainly the sleeping pills. I don’t think you’re going to slip some and try and knock me out, or try and overdose on painkillers, but I… I need to follow it, okay? It’s nothing personal, Dove, I promise.”
“Is it protocol not to have a front door too?”
“Ah, wondered when you might clock that. Yeah. There’s a false one outside – built into the façade so it doesn’t look weird. Only real way in and out is through the garage.”
“But if someone or…” You swallow, the creature flashing up in your mind “…or something got in here, we’d be trapped.”
“Nothing is getting in here and if it does, it’s not getting past me.” He says, sincerely, and when you meet his eyes, there’s that niggle in your chest. You want to trust him - you really, really want to - you want to feel completely at ease with the man who’s apparently ready to lay his life down for you and only you, but you still feel like you’re on the tightrope between victim and villain in this piece. “Open your hand?”
You do, watching him drop two little white pills into it.
“You can have them every four hours if you’re feeling sore. I’ll keep track of the doses, just ask.”
You knock them back with a swig of coffee.
--
“Is it okay if I take a shower?”
“Of course you can.” He pauses, trying to work out why you thought you had to ask. “Do you need a hand with…?”
“No, I think I’ll be okay. Erm… Do you know what I need to do about my temple?” You gesture to the medical strips on your forehead.
“Ah, yeah. So, need to try and avoid getting them wet for a few days. Don’t worry if you do though, I can re-do ‘em. First aid qualified.”
“Thanks. Erm, see you in a bit.” You head into the bedroom and to the duffel bag filled with clothes, picking out a selection that should work and run a brush through your hair. You take it back in the bathroom – Leon politely pretends to be engrossed in whatever’s now on the TV - and place them down on the counter, before locking the door.
After a less than relaxing shower – foregoing washing your hair – injured arm hanging loosely by your side, you’re not sure how long it takes to wrestle to put on underwear, sweatpants and a t-shirt, but it’s not like you have anything to do or anywhere to go. There’s no way you feel up to tackling the exercise bra that whoever has packed and asking Leon is simply beyond the question. It’s nice to be clean though. You’d tried to put the sling back on but had given up when your shoulder had started to smart after failed attempts and leave it half on/half off as you leave the bathroom.
Leon’s sat on the couch, phone in hand when you emerge. He turns, gives you a smile and nods at it.
“Need a hand with that?”
“Please. I tried, but…”
“Hey, it’s early days.” He stands up to meet you, pocketing his phone, as you walk over. “Sometimes they try and get you doing exercises from day one with dislocations too, but the medic advised you rest it for a week so I wouldn’t push yourself too hard.”
He takes adjusts the work you’d managed ever so slightly, and then puts everything in place. He steps closer to adjust it around your shoulder and you find yourself just staring into the expanse of his chest, when he sniffs.
“Mm. What is that - strawberry?”
“Huh?” You look up.
“Your bodywash.” He tightens the strap in place, checking everything is holding snug. “Someone on supplies must’ve been feeling fancy to be stocking us with that.”
“Did you not shower?” Your face burns red as soon as the question leaves your lips. “Not that you…” You like his scent, actually, woody. “I mean, just the bodywa-”
He shrugs it off. “I get you. Er, no. I… Well, I didn’t want to whilst you were sleeping, you know, in case…”
“Oh.” In case someone or something attacked. “Well, you could now – if you want. I’m awake now, so… Unless it goes against protocol?”
“No.” As long as he takes his guns and other weapons in with him, he thinks, and casts a longing look at the bathroom. “Promise you’ll yell if you need me, or you hear a weird noise or… anything, right?”
“I’ll yell.”
“Good. Okay. Might see if there’s another bodywash packed though – not sure I’m a strawberry guy.” He heads over to the garage door where the other duffel bag remains and picks it up, carrying it into the bathroom and locks the door.
He emerges 20 minutes later, same sort of t-shirt and cargo pants combo as yesterday and there’s a whiff of strawberry scent as he walks past you to sit down on the other couch.
--
You’ve been staring blankly at the TV screen for a little while – some sort of house renovation show, kept the volume down low. There isn’t really much else to do here and, really, you don’t want to sit and dwell on your own thoughts. Leon gave you the remote control, told you it was your choice and, sure, you’d clicked down past some of your favourite shows but you don’t want to associate any of them with this, with what happened…
So, weird house renovation it is, though you’re not taking any of it in.
Leon had excused himself a little while ago, said there was still some things in the back of the SUV he needed to grab. You don’t look round when he comes back in but you hear the lock click once more, before you hear him open a cupboard and the tap runs. He shows up in your peripheral vision a few moments later, placing two glasses of water down on the coffee table, laptop tucked under his arm and looking sheepish through his hair.
“Dove, I… I need to ask you some questions about yesterday.”
“Questions?” You tuck your legs up underneath you, wanting to huddle your knees like you do when you watch a horror movie.
“Yeah. Get your statement, mainly. It’ll help the investigation. I’m going to record the audio.”
“Do you want the TV off?”
He smiles at your question – still so sweet and considerate despite the fact he’s the one about to interrogate you, make you relive what is surely the worst even of your life, and you’re worried about his audio quality.
“No, it’s low enough – it won’t get picked up if you wanna leave it on for background noise.”
“Okay. Erm, I think I’d like that.” You pause, digging your nails into your palm. “I’m not sure how much help I’ll be, though. It’s all… kind of a blur.”
“That’s okay,” he opens up his laptop, taps a few keys and angles it to set up to record so he can go over and pick key points up later, if there are any. “Anything will be great. We’ll take it slow. You ready?”
You’re not, but you doubt you ever will be.
“Ready.”

I think the entire load up process took almost 8 hours. The van got to us at 7:30 am ish but the loaders didn't show up until 8 am, which was the earlier part of the estimated window.
The van contains two other loads. Both are military related moves.
I was talking to the driver and I did ask about how that works. The van has separate side doors for each section, so no one load determines the order of unloading. The mattress is the marker point for the end point of one load. There are divider/retaining cords that keeps the other load apart from ours.
The process is more technological than it was 18 years ago. The driver was the one putting numbered stickers on everything and entering detailed notes for any damage to existing items. Our stickers are a different color. He told us he's glad this was just a regular house vs military related move. For those, they have to enter serial numbers, additional details, and they really have to note down any damage. He gave us an example with one of our items that had a nick on it. If the nick existed and he didn't note it down, the clients could easily claim damage for the price of the entire item. Apparently the military folks take classes regarding this, too. IDK about that one.
We took up the rest of the truck!
We also timed it so that the junk haulers would show up at 4. They were a little early but it worked out. They even blew out the garage with a leaf blower.
Anyway, that part is done. The driver is headed to Arkansas and then a military fort in TX. We're his last stop.
As for the rest of today -we returned Xfinity's crap, got some dinner, and ate sitting on the floor. I went through all of our home related paperwork and threw out stuff the new folks won't need. Tomorrow we load up my car, throw any remaining shit out and leave for New Mexico!

I Want Her: Lewis Hamilton x Black!Caribbean!Reader
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has finally come to an end and it was now time for the post race interviews. The drivers were moving slowly from one journalist to the next, most times giving the same answers to the similar questions being asked as they just want for this segment to be over.
Lewis had been rushing through his answers, trying to get away from the scene as quickly as possible until he saw HER. A pretty, short and dark-skinned woman that was currently in the act of interviewing a flirtatious Lando Norris as he was asked the last question.
Lewis politely ended the interview and walked over to George whom he was supposed to go before. "Hey George can I ask for a favour?" he asked Lowly as to not disturb anything, to which George nodded in response. "I don't want to go before you, you were supposed to be her last interviewee, however I want you to switch spots with me?" Lewis asked the younger man. George looked between the pretty woman and his teammate as he finally realised that Lewis had a crush and wanted to spend some extra time her.
"I see what's going on here, you like her don't you?" George asked to which Lewis nodded shyly while blushing. George smiled as he moved up in the line taking Lewis' space as he asked to be interviewed before him. As George listened and answered his questions, Lewis looked on with fire in his eyes as he admired the beautiful woman before him. The way that she spoke, the pretty dark brown colour of her eyes, her curly black hair ect.
After George was done, he turned around to hand Lewis the mic while shotting him a wink as a form of encouragement. Stepping forward slowly, Lewis noted the way she smiled brightly at him as he settled at the stand. "Hi, my name is Y/n and I recently transferred from Sky Sport MotoGP." she greeted him as she offered her hand for him to shake. Taking her soft and delicate hand into his own, he shook it gently before placing a soft kiss to the back and releasing it.
Throughout the whole interview, Lewis would constantly ask her to repeat her questions even though he heard them loud and clear, also taking a long time to 'think' then answer her questions, all in the reason of him wanting to spend more time with her as he also asked personal questions about herself in between.
After a couple more minutes, the interview has finally come to an end and everyone had went off to pack up their stuff to head back to the hotel. Lewis on the other hand had been waiting in the parking garage for his Y/n to arrive, his palms sweating as he anxiously bounced on the spot.
Y/n had finally gather all her equipment and secured them into her bag and was making her way to her car when she spotted Lewis standing at the door. "Lewis, hi! I thought you had left already since everyone else is gone?" Y/n cheerfully greeted the British man who smiled adoringly at her. "Um... there's a reason why I haven't left yet... I wanted to speak to you" Lewis started off nervously. He swayed back and forth as he analysed Y/n's features. Y/n on the other hand was also nervous as she was only thinking of two things: How big of a crush she had on him and if she had made any mistakes with asking any questions that made him uncomfortable.
It turned out to be addressing her first thought as Lewis explained himself. "I know this might seem a bit too forward, but ever since I saw you earlier I had been very fascinated with you. I was hoping to see you again so that i would have the chance to ask you out on a date if you're interest whenever you're free?" Lewis explained, his heart beating in his mouth waiting for her response.
Smiling up at the most beautiful man she has ever laid her eyes on, Y/n held her palm out, gesturing for Lewis to hand over his phone. After seizing the piece of technology, Y/n placed her number into it and handed it back. "You can pick me up at eight tomorrow" she said sweetly before placing a kiss to his cheek and made her way off into the her driving away. Lewis, left alone in the parking lot, started dancing in excitement as he made his way to his car, going home happy that he has the chance to date the most beautiful woman he has ever met.

Garage Door Safety: Tips and Best Practices for Homeowners
Ensuring the safety of your garage door is crucial for safeguarding your loved ones, pets, and belongings. Implementing these strategies and maintenance routines can help maintain a secure environment.
Routine Checks: Every month, visually inspect the garage door and its parts for any signs of wear and tear, such as damage or alignment issues. Focus on the springs, cables, rollers, and pulleys.
Verify the Auto-Reverse Function: Confirm that the auto-reverse mechanism of your garage door is operational by placing an object like a wooden block or a paper towel roll in its path. If the door fails to reverse upon encountering the object, the sensors may need adjustment or repair.
Ensure Sensor Clarity: Garage doors have photoelectric sensors to identify obstructions in their path. These sensors should remain clean and well-aligned, with no items stored close by that might block their detection capabilities.
Educate Kids on Garage Door Hazards: Make children aware of the dangers associated with playing near the garage door. Stress that the garage is not a play area and keep remote controls beyond their reach.
Learn the Emergency Release Use: Be acquainted with your garage door opener's emergency release feature. This knowledge is vital for manually operating the door during power outages or if the opener malfunctions.
Avoid Partially Opening the Door: Leaving the garage door partially open can be dangerous. A door in this state may lack the necessary force to activate the reverse mechanism upon encountering an obstacle. Always fully open or close the door.
Lubricate Mechanical Components: Apply lubricant to the moving parts of the door, such as the rollers, hinges, and springs. This practice minimizes friction and wear, leading to smoother and more secure operation.
Balance Assessment: Disconnect the opener and manually lift the door to check its balance. It should move easily without much effort. A door that feels overly heavy or is hard to lift may require spring adjustments.
Auto-Close Timer Option: Consider a garage door opener with a built-in timer-to-close function. This feature automatically closes the door after a predetermined period, which is helpful if you sometimes forget to close it.
Seek Expert Maintenance for Issues: Should you encounter any problems, like unusual noises or erratic movements, contact a professional garage door technician for a thorough examination and necessary repairs.
Secure the Remote Controls: Handle the remote controls for your garage door with the same care as you would house keys. Keep them in a secure place and avoid leaving them in your vehicle, where they could be stolen or misused.
Enhance Visibility with Adequate Lighting: Install sufficient lighting around your garage door area to improve visibility and decrease the chance of accidents.
By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure the safety and functionality of your garage door, protecting your home and its inhabitants.
