i forgot to share it earlier, but i did a drawing for a fansite that opened earlier this month to celebrate the 10th anniversary of buddyfight! happy 10 years to my favorite card game :)

Hello to the Buddyfight fandom it's been a hot minute but god do i miss this show and have been making fanart for it in the background so i thought i'd post to tumblr too ^^

I swear every year I end up coming back to this show and wishing that it kept going, that it got rebooted, that i could just erase my memories of this show and just watch it all over again from the beginning to enjoy everything once again from Tasuku's own sense of justice twisting against him to Gao's suffering of PTSD and how heartfelt it was handled.

There's something very special about this show that I haven't been able to find replicated elsewhere. It has the most perfect world to exist (so much so that i'd love to be isekai'd into it if i could!!!) and while i have my own gripes with it (hi S3+) i honestly sometimes wish i could go back to my high school years of watching this show just to relive it all again :'D

Anyways!!! I hope there's still people out there who enjoy this show even ten years later who'll like seeing new funny artwork for it!

I wanna add too that i'm hoping to create a rewrite of FCBF (ft. seasons 1-3 + Ace) or at least create more artwork for my interpretation of it and its world!

Because, sincerely, this show is one of the few that, for all its flaws, hasn't disappointed me in the years that've followed unlike many other things i've seen and i wanna try to keep the spirit of it alive while I can thanks to that. And if there are any fans still in existence who love it, i wanna provide some food while its once again in my orbit because damn do i adore this show <3 <3 <#

Buddyfight Headcanons ‘Cause I can’t get this series out of my head

I have no headcanons for Gao sorry

Baku is secretly jealous of other men that get close to Kuguru due to him want that strong bond with her.

Kuguru has a secret sadistic side she keeps under lock and key. Only Baku knows the true extent of her nature.

Kuguru’s headlamps are a pain to put on the morning, taking more than 30 minutes just to put them on. Despite this, her hair is very well kept. Her and Zanya share their hair care tips because of it.

Whenever Kuguru sees Zanya pulling Akatsuki’s ear, she whips out the chancleta and beats the ever loving tar out of him.

Baku: Uhm, I think you got him, Kuguru.

Kuguru, holding a bloody sandal: You want what he’s having?

Baku: N-no…

Kuguru: That’s what I thought.

Zanya: *screams of pure terror*

Tetsuya is actually really smart. He could easily make straight A’s, but chooses to be lazy. Asmodai is both amazed and stumped by this.

Gao: Hey Zanya, do you know what the square root of this is?

Tetsuya, from across the room: It’s 24.

Gao and Zanya: …

Zanya: How are you still in tutoring?!

Tetsuya’s father left him and his mother when he was young. While he doesn’t mind as much anymore, he gets jealous when his friend talk about their fathers.

Zanya’s some form of gay, I don’t make the rules

Zanya’s also the resident babysitter I still don’t make the rules

Zanya used to be afraid of everyone as kid. Not just women, everyone. He later got diagnosed with social anxiety disorder. His current gynophobia is considered an improvement.

When nervous, Zanya either fidgets with his hair or with a ring Akatsuki bought him on his birthday. He keeps the ring on a necklace hidden in his coat.

Despite what he might say, Zanya appreciates when people understand his disorder and don’t try and push boundaries with him.

Akatsuki and Hanako are best friends. They love hanging out and switch up who’s house their going to after school often.

Akatsuki’s extremely gullible. If you tell him clouds are cotton candy, he’ll believe until proven otherwise.

Akatsuki’s the sugar addict in the family. There’s a reason the cookie car is hidden on top of the fridge.

Monsters:

Drum actually has mechanical knowledge and can fix any engine he finds. How else is supposed to maintain his drill?

The day found pre-made pudding is the day Drum was in heaven. It was also the day he learned just how many preservatives are in packaged food.

While he technically doesn’t need the money, Asmodai takes on multiple jobs just for the hell of it.

Despite appearing very chill, Asmodai’s constantly stressed worried about Tetsuya’s wellbeing, especially after the omni lord reveal.

Tsukikage knows JSL and uses it to talk smack about people since a very few people actually practice sign language in Japan.

Tsukikage loves to dote on Byakuya unprompted. It once got to the point where he had to be stopped from buying tickets to Coachella the moment they went on sale.

Wanna take a quick moment to once again thank @inafallsaway for taking my commission of Gao-Wow and his boyfriend Tasuku in their Mobile Trace Suits for the G Gundam inspired Buddyfight AU I wrote about for Kinktober…which will become an actual story at some point after I finish my EnGou fic…and maybe my Digimon Tamers/Assassin’s Creed crossover…IT’LL BE COMING AT SOME POINT IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW xD

Kai fucking lost…this might be the first time we saw him lose so far.

This face reminds me of when Gao Mikado had his first loss in Season 2, sending him into a spiraling self-deprecating depression that just made things worse for him and everybody

I hope a similar thing doesn’t happen here. Maybe it’ll be more like Toshiki Kai thing, sparking the character growth kind of wake-up call instead

Gao's mom makes Italian style pizzas, so Gao can help but feel weird when he sees people eating pizza with not-so-common things... (Like pineapple)

Our Mighty Aún Fighter is just not used to seeing that kind of stuff

Gao: I think I made someone feel bad...

Gaito: That's new coming from you i think...What did you do?

Gao: Well, Kanata and I went out to eat pizza with our buddies and well, when we were waiting for our orders, a guy from another table asked us if we liked pizza with pineapple... I don't know why...

Gaito: Uh-huh... And then?

Kanata: Well, Gao looked at him weirdly and asked the guy "Who the HELL eats pizza with pineapple?"

Gao: And well, the guy stayed quiet... I think I offended him...

I mean the results are all mostly obvious, except for Kiri getting less points than almost anybody else like I know this was only for like the first arc but still losing to Zanyas brother is a crime.

I don't know why he wants us to monitor some elementary school twerp. Not only is he an unranked Buddy Fighter but he also managed to win against Tasuku Ryuenji by pure luck. This whole training is also a waste of time. There is no way I'll ever lose to some elementary schooler.

Elsewhere inside our heroine head "Magoroku please don't underestimate Gao, not only is he the main character but he doesn't even lose a match until midway of season 2. You also really really need the training."
