From The Kerala Story to Zara Hatke Zara Bachke: 5 films of 2023 that haven’t arrived on OTT yet
Films like The Kerala Story and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke attained success at the box office but have still not arrived on any streaming platform yet.
The arrival of OTT happened in India almost a decade back. But the rise in watching online content boomed from 2020 onwards as the cinema halls were shut during that time to combat COVID-19 pandemic. Even after the cinema halls opened and started running to packed capacity, a section of the audience has been eagerly awaiting the release of some films on OTT. Every noteworthy film has been arriving on OTT eight weeks after its release. But there are some films who haven’t arrived on streaming platforms even months after their theatrical release.
The subject of this Rajkumar Santoshi directorial was enough to generate interest – Mahatma Gandhi and his killer Nathuram Godse having a debate over their respective ideologies. However, it literally went unnoticed at the box office because of an absence of a big star and, more importantly, the makers deciding to release it alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s biggie Pathaan, which became a runaway blockbuster. But there is enough interest in the film because, as mentioned above, for its subject. Surprisingly, there is no news about its OTT release yet.
The Kerala Story
The Sudipto Sen directorial is the biggest surprise on this list. Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, Sonia Balani, the movie told the story of young girls being lured into relationships by evil men in order to get them converted to Islam. Despite not a single big star associated with it, it went onto earn a mammoth Rs. 242.20 crores. Hence, it remains a mystery as to why it hasn’t arrived on OTT yet.
Zara Hatke Zara Bachke
This is another major surprise on the list. The Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan starrer looked like an OTT film but the makers released it in theatres. It became a surprise hit of the year as it went onto earn a very impressive Rs. 88 crores at the box office. Despite it being over six months since the film released in theatres, it still hasn’t got a release on any streaming platform as yet.
The Lady Killer
Directed by Ajay Bahl, the film had decent face value because of its lead cast of Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar. But The Lady Killer got a tiny release in theatres and that too without any publicity and promotions. Normally, this happens when the makers are more interested in its OTT release. However, three months after its miniscule release, the film hasn’t arrived on streaming yet.
Ganapath – A Hero Is Born
Filmmaker Vikas Bahl’s movie was in the news for it being a rare Bollywood movie to have a dystopian theme. It also had known actors like Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon and Amitabh Bachchan in pivotal roles. However, Ganapath – A Hero Is Born just bombed at the box office. More than three months after its theatrical release, it still hasn’t arrived on OTT. This is a surprise considering the popularity of its cast.

Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh Teaser Review & Explain
A teaser for Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh was released on January 2nd, 2023 for the joy of its fans. Like the title, the story revolves around Nathuram Godse as well as Mahatma Gandhi. The script is believed to be fictional, and the authors depict a conversation with Godse with Gandhi. For those who aren’t convinced one, Gandhi had planned an assassination attempt on Gandhi, the father of the nation, on the 30th of January 1948. He did not believe in Gandhi’s ideas and beliefs of non-violence, particularly towards the Muslims. This was 1949, the year that India and Pakistan were at conflict over Kashmir.
The character of Gandhi was performed by Deepak Antani who played a similar character in a movie from 2016 called, Gandhiji My Mentor. On the other side, Chinmay Mandlekar is playing the part of Godse. He last appeared as a character in Vivek A. Ranjan’s The Kashmir Fileswhere He played an armed militant named Farooq Malik Bitta.

Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh
Gandhi Godse – Ek Yudh is a 2020 Indian biographical drama film directed by Ravi Rai, starring Atul Kulkarni as Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, and Ashutosh Rana as Gandhi. The film portrays the events leading up to the assassination of Gandhi by Godse on 30 January 1948.
This movie will be released on 26 January 2023.
The film begins with Godse’s birth in a small village in Maharashtra and his early struggles in life. Godse is shown to be an intelligent and ambitious young man who is determined to make something of his life despite his humble beginnings. He joins the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and is quickly accepted into the fold. He then moves to Pune and starts a newspaper called Agrani, with the express purpose of spreading his nationalist views.
Godse’s involvement with the RSS deepens and he soon becomes a staunch believer in its ideology. He also comes to believe that Gandhi’s policies are detrimental to India’s progress and are a threat to its unity. He begins to voice his opinions publicly and eventually decides to act on his beliefs by assassinating Gandhi.
The film follows Godse’s painstaking planning and execution of the assassination. He is shown to be a meticulous planner who takes into account every detail and leaves no stone unturned in his mission. He is also shown to be a brave man, who is willing to sacrifice himself for what he believes in.
The film also examines the aftermath of the assassination. The public reaction to the event is shown to be overwhelmingly negative, with many people condemning Godse and calling him a murderer. The film also explores the personal cost of the assassination, on both Godse and his family, who are left to deal with the stigma and shame of his actions. read more

Resources to learn more about Hinduphobia, and Hindu culture.
Making a masterpost about this because I'm getting a lot of asks for it. The list will be updated!
Books to read:
Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody. This is the memoir of a woman stuck in Iran and how she has to illegally sneak out with her daughter. It doesn't focus on Hinduphobia but it does highlight the violence perpetuated by Muslims to women. This is a true story and a movie has also been made on it. Also, I just need to appreciate how well it's written, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Aavarna by S. L. Bhyrappa. This book basically details how Hindu history was derailed and destroyed by Mughal invaders, specifically Aurangzeb, the plot is fictional but the history is real.
All Religions Are Not the Same by Sanjay Dixit. This is a new book and I've just ordered it actually. It discusses the differences between religions and how secularism affects that.
Why I Killed Gandhi by Nathuram Godse. Includes the testimonial of the man who killed Gandhi. I'm about to read this book and I'm excited. Don't be fooled by the one-star reviews.
Hindus in Hindu Rashtra by Anand Ranganathan. Illustrates 9 examples of the hypocrisy of the current government when it comes to legalities and laws concerning Hindus.
Some people you can follow on Twitter are Dr Anand Ranganathan, The Skin Doctor, and VivanVatsa. They're all well-read on Hinduphobia and/or Hindu history.
A fantastic account on Instagram called vrindkavi posts amazing comics on Indian history and mythology.
Blogs you can follow for awareness, and learning about Hinduphobia/Hindu culture:

Some important Hindu literature:
Mahabharata This is classified as an Itihasa text. It deals with a war between 2 royal factions and is a vehicle for describing the activities of the Avatar Krishna.
Ramayana This is also an Itihasa text. It provides the biography of Lord Rama who is considered an Avatar of Vishnu.
Bhagavad Gita This is an important text of the Vedanta school and is treated separately although it is part of Mahabharata. It provides a coherent summary of Vedanta.
Srimad Bhagavatam This is a Purana and provides a biography of Lord Krishna. This is an important text for the Vaishnava sect of Hinduism.
Shiva Purana and Linga Purana These Puranas provide the biography of Lord Shiva and are important texts for the Saivite sect of Hinduism.
Chandi or Devi Mahatmyam This is an important text for Saktas who worship Sakti or Devi. This text is really part of the Markandeya Purana.
But really, the best way to combat Hinduphobia, is to learn about our history and culture, because if you know the truth, you won't fall for the twisted narrative being peddled by the media today. If you've got to the end of this, thank you for educating yourself and learning about us.

I think we’ve actually proved this in the past few years, in the worst way possible: any two Indians can say ‘Gandhi was horrible’ to each other, and they’ll have extremely different reasons (‘remember the Poona pact?’ v ‘remember how everyone villanized Godse?’ for a basic starter)

30 January 1948: Gandhi is assassinated on his way to prayer
A Hindu nationalist gunman believed the leader had betrayed his people
The clock had ticked past 5pm on 30 January 1948, and in the garden at Birla House, New Delhi, Mohandas Gandhi was running late. At the age of 78, the leader of India’s independence struggle still played a prominent role in the politics of the subcontinent, and had only recently completed a fast in protest at the violence between Hindus and Muslims. Now, the day’s business concluded, he and his great-nieces were on their way to a prayer meeting.
Outside, a crowd of several hundred schoolchildren, businessmen, holy men and even street-sellers was waiting. As Gandhi approached, one man pushed his way to the front. “Bapu [Father] is already 10 minutes late, why do you embarrass him?” asked Gandhi’s great-niece, Manuben. At that, the man pushed her aside, so that she dropped the rosary and notebook she was carrying. Then he levelled his Beretta pistol, and fired.
Whether Gandhi died on the spot remains controversial: some accounts say he breathed his last a few minutes later, after he had been carried inside. Either way, the shots were fatal. His assassin, who was seized immediately, turned out to be 39-year-old Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist who believed that Gandhi had betrayed his people to the Muslims. “I sat brooding intensely on the atrocities perpetrated on Hinduism, and its dark and deadly future if left to face Islam outside and Gandhi inside,” he later told the court, “and… I decided all of a sudden to take the extreme step against Gandhi.” Godse was executed for his actions. But to some Hindu nationalists, he remains a martyr.

Good sir, recently I saw your comment that implied gandhi was just as bad as godse or savarkar and I was sort of taken aback. I know gandhi wasn't the perfect saint some of his followers paint him as, he took time to lose his racist, casteist views and a lot of other stuff. But I do think he genuinely was trying to do good in the world. He kept trying to be a better person until he died.
Again, he wasn't perfect and I do have objections about him but there's a reason why bjp and rss are so hell bent on tarnishing his image.
yo he called hitler as his 'dear friend' in a letter to urge him to stop the atrocities against jewish people, was incredibly casteist and he might not be in the fascist sanghi scale, he was still well, a fascist and an antisemite (he stated jewish people should not resist against the nazis and should take "peaceful" measures). and in his biography he literally mentioned sleeping naked with his younger female relatives so that he can "prove himself chaste" he was a bloody hypocrite. he alienated dalits and lower caste communities. and from a realistical viewpoint at one point, gandhian resistance and politics was very liberal and came from a place of priviledge and importance, often not in a fruitful way. gandhi was not worse than savarkar or godse, but nonetheless he was still a piece of shit.
i will, at one point understand where you are coming from, considering how hindutvadis idolise savarkar (a fucking snitch who also was an antisemite and a zionist later on) but that doesn't change my viewpoint on the basis of historical evidences that gandhi was a shitty person. i hope you understand that, and if you don't: well, i really cannot do anything about it. good day/night.
#asks#nonnie#turning off reblogs i don't want to deal with this discourse rn i'm tired#i'm sorry if i sound so cluttered right now i feel tired#but then again i'm not a political expert i don't want to be one#you can find a lot of valid criticism of him on the net
