Okay, so...I realized a joke upon my second viewing of the film. A visual pun. The animals on the island all come to watch Brightbill training to fly and find themselves CLEARLY impressed by what's happening...though they're clearly not up for openly admitting it except the raccoons, who are clapping in happy approval.
But what specifically are they doing to Roz, Fink and Brightbill?
They've come to see him fly. Or rather...they came...
To take a GANDER at the scene.
Get it?

I recently read the Ducktales 2017 Art book. Apparently, if the show wasn't cancelled, they were going to actually have a romance between them, including a funny double date episode.
To the tune of "I could've been turbo" ... WE COULD'VE HAD MAGICSTONE!? (animated and not just comics)
Happy Valentine's Day!

The colors are so gaudy, but it's so visceraaaal! Presenting Mother Timothy Goose as the High Priestess! I love the gender fuckery of Ally being non-binary, Mother goose as a gay man, and the original mother goose as a female character.

Funguary Feb 9 - Silver Leaf Fungus - Ipos
Ipos is an Earl and powerful Duke of Hell who has thirty-six legions of demons under his command. He knows and can reveal all things, past, present and future . He can make humans who summon him witty and valiant. He is commonly associated with both the goose and the lion.
On the other hand, the Daemonic Silver Leaf Fungus is roughly the size of a barnyard gander and is mostly associated with excessive screeching and a tendency to get it's head stuck in commercially designed feeders. Some fanciers have started trying to breed them in patterns such as the Flemish and the Canadian, but with small success. The Daemonic Silver Leaf Fungus feeds on clothing fragments and the psychic energy of causing bruises through nipping.

Happy Easter
I was heading past the cliffs overlooking the Beaverhead River the other day and spotted the geese that hang on rocks. They always show up there this time of year. I spotted a lone goose lower down on the cliffs in a good spot for pictures. I had to take my eyes off it to get my camera ready to go. When I looked up, I lost him, completely disappeared. There was a pair further down, so I moved up closer which also gave me a better angle. I took a couple of shots, and then right above me there was honking. It was the first goose that I had lost sight of, at a much better distance and angle than before.
A very good photographer and the owner of Perfect Light and Yellowstone Camera shops Chris Balmer suggested using Auto ISO, seems to work real slick.
Nikon D500, Manual Mode, Tamron 150-600mm VC G2, F/6.3, ISO Auto (140), ET 1/640, Focal Length 600mm, Handheld, Vibration Control on

Okay I know I only ever come on here to talk about my random resurgent love of specific musicals but just. Come From Away is so fucking good yall.
The parts that always get me are the songs using multiple languages, specifically "Darkness and Trees (reprise)" and "Prayer" which both have that underlying theme of religion being international.
Now I am not a religious man, I have my own beliefs but they are easily swayed one way or another. However, the way the musical emphasizes and highlights that despite language barriers, a common viewpoint can bridge that gap easily. It doesn't just go for religion either, but that kindness. It took one act of kindness after another to show that words cannot beat actions, and your actions have impact.
I could rant for hours about Come From Away and how masterful it is

New project idea: draw Gladstone (or other geese) like he's in an Amazon goose plush listing.
If this seems to get enough reactions, I'll add it to the project list.

Come From Away is a great nonfiction musical about 9/11. Specifically about the thousands of people who were stranded in an underused airport surrounded by woodlands and friendly people in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. The play acknowledges the pain and suffering caused by the terrorist attacks with earnestness. But it presents the event from the perspective of those people in Canada. And in doing so, strips the historical event of the apocalyptic pretensions that American Neoconservatives and Islamic Wahabists have given it.
For the people who are the stars of this show, 9/11 was an opportunity. For the local "ganders" it gave them a chance to re-affirm their cultural values of hospitality and selflessness. For the "plane-people" it was an unexpected experience to bond with strangers and explore new places. Both locals and plane passengers were horrified by the events that brought them together. While some gave in to despair and/or lashed out angrily, everyone else rose to create a little community across the boundaries of nations, languages, and religions. And this unity has persisted, even after the participants were literally scattered across the world. Plane-people have come back to revisit and repay the ganders for their hospitality and the Ganders will always welcome back their friends from away.
That's the narrative and reality, as for the musical itself, it's songs and tone are perfect for the subject: Newfoundlanders sing traditional fishing shanties, Passengers sing songs of hope, boredom, and despair in their diverse languages, Crews sing about their careers in the air and how painfully personal 9/11 was for them. The dialogue between the numbers is just just as great, guaranteed to make you laugh and cry.
In conclusion, if there is ever going to be another 9/11 musical, Come From Away is going to be the high bar it will have to clear. And I doubt that any will, for the next decade at least!
