For about three years I have been fascinated by this monologue and oral witness statement by Tay Porter, a woman from what I reluctantly call my home town, Galesburg Illinois. I suppose I can say, honestly, that Knoxville and NOT Galesburg was my home town, because that's where my parents brought me from the hospital, Saint Mary's, around the end of April 1961. The hospital was in Galesburg; our family's first home was in Knoxville , about 10 miles to the east. Galesburg was where I went through hell. I have tried sharing the story of my abuse by my church, in the comments under Tay's video on YouTube, but twice, someone has gone & deleted every single comment. It's as if someone wants to erase my existence from public memory. Strangely enough, in the article on my father's life after he died, there was mention of my mother but no mention that any of us children were born. That was in the Galesburg Register Mail, in an edition that rolled off the press sometime in late October or early November 2016. The article took up the bottom half of the front page & half of the back page. Likewise, a couple years later, around 2018, my father's sister and her children were honoured in the Knox College alumni magazine, but no mention was made of my sister Margaret or of me. We were graduated from Knox too. But for some reason we are again left unmentioned. Could it be because my mother was an immigrant from Mexico?

I got an anon request to do this alllll the way back in April so if that was you here it is haha! I have wanted to do this for agesss since it’s such a lovely song and I love drawing dogs!
I am actually super proud of this one, I love the song and I think (I hope) I did it justice!

Christmas on The Air: A Live Radio Play
December 21, 2024: The Orpheus Theatre
Tumblr media
I have so many thoughts and yet none at the same time. I really really enjoyed this show. Spoilers to follow, be warned!
So firstly, my little stage manager brain was so so excited by just how many cues it must have taken to put this show together and keep it moving as seamlessly as it did.
I was explaining to my aunt how every show had at least the lights up and lights down cues, but this show was interesting with how the cues were used. Because foley was a considerable part of the play, I didn’t think there would be a substantial amount of cues. HOWEVER. There was an applause sign that would light up and flash every time the audience was meant to clap, then would go out again. This right here is where I am estimating a good amount of the cues being called must have come from, because that sign is cued a LOT!!
I’m so curious how the flashing effect was even made, but that’s a question for lighting folks, of which I am not one. (I just learned how to write and fire off a singular light cue, okay.)
ANYWAY.
Point is, there must have been so many cues from that sign alone, but then you have the actors doing foley and there are multiple mics that have to be toggled on and off, and the actors are double casted, plus!! every character has their own unique voice, so the actors are ALSO changing their voices with every character switch, which I find impressive as hell!!
This show was so well done and I truly enjoyed it so so much. The fact that the theater itself was beautiful (it had multiple balconies!! so beautiful!!) is just another added bonus.

Fun at the Greater Peoria Farm Show!
Today we visited our first farm show of the winter season. The Greater Peoria Farm Show is the first of several! Today was the last day for this show that celebrated their 43rd year. I went with my husband Keith and our friend Denny Seiz. We visited the show, each of us going our own ways and checking out our interests. Farm shows are great places to see the latest and greatest in farming. I…

SP Thru Galesburg
Back in the early 1990s no trip to Galesburg would be complete without getting a SP train on BN Trackage rights (and later on next door Santa Fe too). July 6 of 1994 finds SP 8529 coming thru town on a stacker headed to Chicago with a West Quincy, MO crew. Randy Williams photo

I had to leave my friend alone for about 5 minutes just to go do something and she said “hey I’m gonna be lonely” so I handed her my phone and some headphones and just put weekend in western Illinois on - in the same way you’d give a 2 year old an iPad with a sensory video on it
