Galehaut/Lancelot One-Shot
(Kind of outside the story since it's during the False Guinevere plot)
"Guin told me what you promised, you know?"
Galehaut freezes as he hears Lancelot's words, "I'm sorry?"
"She told me how you promised to fight for her. How you promised to die for her. I knew you two were friends, but I did not know you held such fervent loyalty to her." Lancelot could not keep the amazement from their voice.
Galehaut struggled to respond for a minute before quietly replying, "…I don't"
Now Lancelot was confused, "what?"
Galehaut stood straighter as his voice got firmer, "I don't hold such loyalty to her. I consider her a dear friend, of that there is no doubt. And I like to think I would still help her in her time of need no matter what, but I cannot deny that she is not the main reason I am doing this.
Lance couldn't help but be surprised at the sudden passion in Galehaut's words, "Then what is?"
Galehaut just gave a tired smile. "You, Lancelot. What else?" he laughed quietly as he spoke, "It's always you."
They weren't sure how to respond, "I'm afraid I don't know what you mean…?"
"You love her." As they opened their mouth to dispute it, Galehaut went on, "No. Don't deny it. I'm not here to claim what form that love takes, but it cannot be denied that you do love Guinevere deeply. Why else would you do all of this?" Galehaut asked incredulously and he gestured around, "Give up your life's dream just to save her. Just for the principal of the wrong done to her. I won't guess at what way, but you do love her. And I…" he hesitated before he stood straighter and looked Lancelot in the eye, "I love you, Lance."
Lancelot could only stare as they struggled for how to respond. Galehaut decided to keep going.
"I've loved you for so long. Surely you've noticed." He let out a self-deprecating chuckle, "the rest of Camelot certainly has."

Somnophilia for kink meme?
Alright, most of my answers are gonna be noncon somnophilia with creeps, I know it doesn't bother you, but warning for everyone else for lots of mentions of sexual assault under cut.
Galehaut/Lancelot (Arthurian legend)
Alright, despite his obsession, Galehaut is not a creep, but there is so much UST in the scene where he spends all the night watching him sleep that IF they got together they'd sure recreate it. It suits Lancelot's hang-ups too.
2. Oscar/Zenigata (Lupin III)
Alright, Oscar IS a creep, and you know what, he totally would. It's the only way I can see it happening, honestly. ^^
3. Knives/Legato (Trigun)
I'm less sure about this one happening, because damn, Legato has self-control, but also, he had to watch him heal for literal years, and he has a twisted sense of sex and autonomy to say the least. Also, I ship it hard, the creepiest the better
4. Asuna/Fueko (The feelings we all must endure)
A consensual version, for once. I'm sure they have tried this, in a way to make agree Fueko's chronic fatigue and Asuna's unending lust. I'm also sure it wasn't satisfying, but it would be interesting.
5. Mac/Beaver (Veronica Mars)
The canon version of it, and damn, was it a creepy betrayal. I used to love the ship, though, and after I still loved it, but very differently.
6. Izzy/Ed (Our flag means death)
I think we talked about it, that I had this creepy bunny of Izzy insisting that it's only for Ed's sake he lets himself be fucked (he lies) and Ed is like, well, you wouldn't mind if I fucked you while you're opium-drugged then, and Izzy not wanting to change his mind, and... I can't believe it's technically consensual. Consent for all the wrong reasons.
7. Scorpius/John
The creepy mad scientist/subject of experiment version. There was noncon surgery. I don't trust Scorpius to be mild about it.
8. Chloe/Kirika (Noir)
Chloe kisses Kirika when she's amenesiac, she sure would kiss her while she's asleep.
9. Lupin/Jigen (Lupin III)
This time I'm sure it was a headcanon we had together. The sharing a bed and Lupin is a freak while he's asleep porn bunny (I won't say plot bunny)
10. Seishirou/Subaru (Tokyo Babylon)
When I was very new in fandom I read a fic with a scene like this, and damn, it marked me.

Lancelot & Galehaut
from Arthurian Legend
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
anon said:
galehaut from arthurian literature, specifically the vulgate cycle. his wikipedia page has “homosexuality in medieval europe” linked as “see also”, though, so maybe he’s a bit too obvious. i guess you could ask if the voters think he’s gay specifically or not
and I figured that we would only be debating Galehaut's sexuality in relation to Lancelot so I've decided to post them as a pair

please expand on the lancelot x gawain i keep seeing on your blog 🙏
okay sorry i took so long i decided to shower after you sent me this because i knew that if i started then i would never end up showering today. and then it was an unfinished routine so i had to lotion and brush my teeth and floss and do hair stuff too.
so, obviously, it's lancelot du lac and gawaine of orkney. both knights of the round table, etc etc. you know who they are. i hope. they're not exactly similar to their bbc merlin counterparts---lancelot is of noble birth in classic arthuriana, gawaine is arthur's nephew (though bbc merlin doesn't exactly...keep the familial relations that canon does), things like that---but i'd honestly say that their character personalities are similar enough that it's verging on acceptable! just as a reference point for you, i suppose.
gawaine has lost a fair fight only to six knights in his time, launcelot being one of them (Le Morte d'Arthur, Sir Thomas Mallory. book IV, chapter XVIII) (the other five being sir tristram, sir bors, sir percevel, sir pelleas, and sir marhaus). he is mentioned to throw fights against lancelot because he loves losing to him (cannot remember the source for the life of me) and, of course, lancelot always notices when he does.
then there's this famous quote:
Tumblr media
(vulgate II, p140) where launcelot tells galehaut (another man that he arguably has...something...going on with) that he would share with gawaine everything he loves, save guinevere, in order to have gawaine forever. gawaine then goes on to say that, essentially, he would wish to be the most beautiful woman so that lancelot would love him as a wife.
also, in Morte, which i don't have photos of because my copy is a physical book rather than a pdf like how i'm reading vulgate and i don't want to take photos with my laptop camera. there is this quote "and Launcelot with this sword shall slay the man that in the world he loves best, that shall be Sir Gawaine." which is engraved in the hilt of the red hilted sword, balin's sword that merlin encases in stone and which galahad, lancelot's son, eventually wields.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^this, also. from vulgate IV, p140. after launcelot accidentally kills gawaine's brother gareth (named here as gaheriet; all the orkneys have...many ways of spelling their names. look up a list of all of gawaine's names over history, i dare you) who was guarding guinevere's cell...he begs gawaine to forgive him and even promises to swear himself and all his men into subservience to gawaine if gawaine would only forgive him. "I want to be your companion just as I used to be." mhm...
and "I'll swear to you on 'relics that I didn't kill your brother Gaheriet intentionally" is a huge promise. swearing on a holy relic in such a deeply, fundamentally christian society was the vow that you could make. the reason why honour was so important in that time was because the grand majority of people were illiterate, so one's word was the most one could give, in the majority of situations! and here is lancelot, saying that he'll swear on a holy relic that he did not mean to kill gareth if it means gawaine will forgive him and love him again.
there is also, right before gawaine eventually dies (from a sword wound to the head from lancelot) he writes a letter to launcelot begging forgiveness for having been so horrible to lancelot before his death, and wishing he could see him before he dies, for he knows he won't live long.
And then when paper and ink was brought, then Gawaine was set up weakly by King Arthur, for he was shriven a little to-fore; and then he wrote thus, as the French book maketh mention: Unto Sir Launcelot, flower of all noble knights that ever I heard of or saw by my days, I, Sir Gawaine, King Lot's son of Orkney, sister's son unto the noble King Arthur, send thee greeting, and let thee have knowledge that the tenth day of May I was smitten upon the old wound that thou gavest me afore the city of Benwick, and through the same wound that thou gavest me I am come to my death-day. And I will that all the world wit, that I, Sir Gawaine, knight of the Table Round, sought my death, and not through thy deserving, but it was mine own seeking; wherefore I beseech thee, Sir Launcelot, to return again unto this realm, and see my tomb, and pray some prayer more or less for my soul. And this same day that I wrote this cedle, I was hurt to the death in the same wound, the which I had of thy hand, Sir Launcelot; for of a more nobler man might I not be slain. Also Sir Launcelot, for all the love that ever was betwixt us, make no tarrying, but come over the sea in all haste, that thou mayst with thy noble knights rescue that noble king that made thee knight, that is my lord Arthur; for he is full straitly bestead with a false traitor, that is my half-brother, Sir Mordred; and he hath let crown him king, and would have wedded my lady Queen Guenever, and so had he done had she not put herself in the Tower of London. And so the tenth day of May last past, my lord Arthur and we all landed upon them at Dover; and there we put that false traitor, Sir Mordred, to flight, and there it misfortuned me to be stricken upon thy stroke. And at the date of this letter was written, but two hours and a half afore my death, written with mine own hand, and so subscribed with part of my heart's blood. And I require thee, most famous knight of the world, that thou wilt see my tomb. And then Sir Gawaine wept, and King Arthur wept; and then they swooned both. And when they awaked both, the king made Sir Gawaine to receive his Saviour. And then Sir Gawaine prayed the king for to send for Sir Launcelot, and to cherish him above all other knights. (Le Morte D'Arthur, Sir Thomas Mallory. book XXI, chapter II)
Tumblr media
(vulgate IV, p139). honestly? no comment here. it speaks for itself. this bit is where the ship name remarkable comes from.
of course, this is by no means a comprehensive post, just moments i can remember off the top of my head. and a lot of this can be attributed to today's view of male homosociality and how it's changed since the middle ages, skewing our view of what could have been, by all means, a platonic relationship. however it is my personal belief and interpretation that they were in love <3 muah the end i hope you enjoyed. i tried my best to explain both story and cultural context the best i could without going into irrelevant detail...i hope this is enough!

Trips I’ve planned so far after getting into various fandoms and ships:
Alexander x Hephaestion: Greece + Egypt + Turkey + Lebanon
It’s an ambitious itinerary. Shelved for now.
The Charioteer: London + Bristol
Completed in summer 2023: I met up with some TC mutuals from this very website in London. We saw a play, visited some museums, had delicious pie and mash, and checked out some local queer bars together! And then I took a train to Bristol with my cousin to check out all the TC sites ❤️
Lancelot x Galehaut: Wales + Cornwall + Brittany
I’ve planned this for a long time but other trips kept getting in the way. Maybe in the next couple years…
Mysterious Lotus Casebook: Yangzhou + Hangzhou + Suzhou
Partially completed: I was inspired to do a Jiangnan tour after watching the show. I visited Hangzhou in fall 2024 with my mom. We toured the western lake, various traditional villas + estates, and temples.
Oh No! Here comes trouble: Taipei
Planned for 2025. I’m thinking of a Taiwan + Singapore trip but still in the early planning stages…
Zhuge Liang x Liu Bei: Chengdu
Completed in fall 2024: I visited the Wuhou Shrine where Zhuge Liang’s shrine watches over Liu Bei’s tomb 🥰
Yongzheng x Prince Yi: Beijing
I was looking up tickets to the forbidden palace this morning 👀. Very tempting. Maybe I’ll do a Beijing + Xi’an trip next time I’m in China.

COME ON GUYS, JUSTICE FOR GALEHAUT!!!!
Like, at least let that poor guy get past Round 1! Hasn't he suffered enough? He loved Lancelot SO MUCH, and everyone just forgot about it, and now there's like a handful of gays on Tumblr left who have Emotions about him, but it's not even enough to win a single poll?! He deserves better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
galehaut and lancelot by judith jaidinger, gawain and kay both by howard pyle
[ID 1: a wood engraving of galehaut, a dark haired beared man, and lancelot standing in front of a stone wall with a window in it, talking. /end ID 1 ID 2: a black and white picture of gawain from the waist up, holding a helmet. next to it is a black and white full body picture of kay, facing right. /end ID 2]
galehaut quite happily surrenders to arthur, despite the almost guarantee of him winning the battle, just because he likes lancelot. he then dies of grief when he hears lancelot is dead. lancelot (who is not dead, because he is lancelot) has him laid to rest in joyeuse garde and prepares space so that once he dies he may lay beside him.
main reason provided for gawain/kay is that they are obsessed with each other, which is true. they have an ongoing rivalry.

guess what bbc merlin writers and 13th century authors have in common
Mieszkowski points out that homoerotic literature from the thirteenth century “presents same-sex love in ways that do not call attention to themselves and do not insist upon being heard, but that will nevertheless be recognized by readers who know how to listen”. Lancelot’s love and dedication towards Guinevere may have served as a powerful diversion, shielding Galehaut’s love from negative attention and censure, while Galehaut and Lancelot’s overly dedicated companionship, their relationship’s similarities to courtly love and subtle hints of their love for each other may have been enough for “readers who know how to listen”. To some, Galehaut and Lancelot’s relationship may have been explicit, whereas those who would be offended by their bond could choose to regard it as “friendship”, or “companionship” and turn a blind eye to the romantic implications. The writer of the Prose may thus have subtly incorporated a gay romance in one of the Arthurian legend’s largest stories. (x)

Character Facts/Ideas
So, you know how there’s this thing where one partner in a relationship is doing push-ups and the other is on their back? So, imagine Launcelot, one of the best knights in regards to physical prowess, sitting on Galehaut’s back as he does push-ups.
