#Galactica 1980

After several years of Charles warning me that Galactica 1980 is borderline unwatchable, which naturally only inflamed my curiosity, he finally gave in and agreed to watch it with me. Which means I have to watch it, and holy shit, it is that bad. But that's not what I'm posting about.

The main antagonist of the series is a rogue Galactic Councillor who wants to do time travel to take over Past Earth and something something something, they kind of lose track of specifics after he fails to help the Nazis hit London with V-2s. Up until now, he's been played by 80s genre darling and household favorite Richard Lynch, but for reasons I've yet to figure out they decided to do a "character appears to die and then comes back in a different body" plot and replace him.

With Jeremy Brett.

Who is giving one of the campiest villain performances I have ever seen, and I'm counting Max von Sydow in Flash Gordon. Fluttering his eyelashes, purring, growling, jumping over shit for no reason... it's everything we all love so dearly about his Holmes, but eeeeeeviiiilllll.

This episode isn't actually good, but Brett has elevated the material beyond my wildest expectations. Alas, he has departed the show, never to return. But we cherished him while he was here.

Finished Galactica 1980!

Certainly not as good as the original but I don't think anyone expected it to be. The first half was fairly uninteresting with new characters who were pale counterparts to Apollo and Starbuck. The setting was also boring, Earth. The last half did take a bit of an upturn however and I found myself laughing at the children's dialogue. The child actors were pretty great too. The final episode was very good but ultimately frustrating as it left the fate of one of our greatest heroes up in the air. I get it though, if I could have him come back for an episode I would.
