I totally get you reaction, it took me some time to realize what on Earth happened. There is one key factor you've missed and it's this: they chose poorly. The gang chose a God based off of their selfish desires and none of them considered what the world would look like because of that.
Kakehashi and Saki wanted to be together and live in a bubble, that was all they truly cared about in the end.
The money crazed chick Yuri does not like responsibility and just wants to live a rich and carefree life, which she got from her deal with the acientist dude.
The scientist dude Yoneda wanted proof the God exists but he thought that by becoming this creature that he may very well perish.
And the reast are... Well, dead, cause of Kanade the incestuous p3do.
Shuji had every reason to say "Duck it, I'll be the God cause 1. nobody else wants to and 2. nobody would miss me". But was he supposed to? OF COURSE NOT!! Out of all of these people, he is the worst person for the job!! And I think the ending itself explains why.
TL;DR Everyone was too selfish to care about becoming a God so they let the most depressed human kill the Earth
just finished platinum end and.. what was that ending..

“Food of Japan” by Shirley Booth FTW! One great virtue of that book is that it references a number of other classic English-language Japanese cookbooks. My favorites are “The Folk Art of Japanese Country Cooking”—Homma Gaku’s traditional recipes from the boondocks of Hokkaido—and “Good Food from a Japanese Temple” by Abbess Yoneda Soei, the dainty vegan cookery of a Buddhist nunnery. Both cover Japanese cuisines less familiar to the West, are out of print, and command exorbitant Amazon prices.
--
Curse you for mentioning them! Now I must have them!
I've had a lot of books over time. The two other Japanese cookbooks I've kept (though I haven't used them nearly as much) are Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art and Japanese Farm Food, though neither looks as interesting as those.
TBH, for a lot of stuff, I'll have tried some dish in an izakaya, have no idea what it's called, and go looking on cookpad for a recipe in Japanese—for example, that thing that uses mung bean sprouts, daikon sprouts, and marinated ground pork in a stir fry.

Platinum End
★★★ - Platinum End - Purachina Endo - プラチナエンド
Platinum End Anime
Ever since he lost his family in the explosion, Mirai Kakehashi has lived a life of pain and despair. Every day he suffers cruel treatment from the relatives who sheltered him. As his suffering steadily wanes in his will to live, he eventually finds himself on the brink. Ready to give up everything, he stands on the edge of the abyss and makes a jump. However, instead of falling to his death, he enters a trance where he encounters a winged being who claims to be his guardian angel. An angel named Nasse offers him two invaluable abilities and urges him to continue living. As Mirai experiences the wonder of his new abilities, he will taste the freedom that has been locked away from him for so long. Armed with Nasse's gifts, Mirai takes on 12 other humans, one of whom will be chosen to be the next God. Unlike when he wanted to kill himself, Mirai is now willing to do whatever it takes to protect his bleak chance at happiness so that it won't be torn from his grasp forever.
