I had started thinking that despite personally considering Gakane-Yuder-Kanna one of the central trios, Kanna had far more one-on-one developments and emotional beats with Yuder than Gakane. I started feeling bad for him because he really was the first one in this entire story to reach out to him, even in the 1st timeline. It felt like he was falling behind.
Then the 2nd dance of the ballroom party came around. Fellas
"I know that I'm not someone people easily approach. I'm not sociable, and my personality isn't exactly winning. Most people who meet me for the first time find me intimidating or unpleasant."
"..."
"But you spoke to me without hesitation, didn't you?"
There aren't many people who can speak to Yuder without hesitation upon a first meeting even now. Although the Yuder of his past life had brushed off Gakane's friendly approach, the fact that it remained in some corner of his mind even after death and resurrection indicated that it had left a significant impression.
And also, the meaningless death of Gakane, who had shown such effortless kindness.
The conversation he had with him at that time was, from Yuder’s perspective, a conversation with another person after a very long time.
Based on his previous life, it was a conversation with a peer stranger after several years, and in this life, it was the first proper conversation Yuder had since coming back from the dead.
Yuder looked at Gakane, who seemed lost in thought, and spoke.
"I'm glad the person I talked to at that time was you. That's all."
Saving Gakane's life was added to the list of things he definitely wanted to do this time around, and how he describes this conversation feels like a peaceful closure. Something that his current soul probably needs to heal further. It almost made me tear up. I'm so glad these friendships are what they are.

Turning flavored doodles as I read the novel (i just hit chapter 113 💪)
to comment on the doodles, i imagine Gakane to be like a mama goose (heck, he forbade Yuder from using both of his hands while coming back from their mission 😭😭) so i just wanted to draw some exaggerated interactions
ALSO ENON !! IF ENON HAS ONE FAN ITS ME! IF HE HAS 0 FANS IM DEAD!! I’m sorry but he’s actually the epitome of my kind of character and he is so pathetic sometimes i love that about him. I also drew him as what i see when i imagine him, not based on the description the author gave him bc i tried and,,, no it’s not the Enon in my head ToT So i gave him a design. Perhaps when the webcomic catches up to his appearance i might change it, depending on how acceptable it is (i’m sure they’ll do a good job but argh the lack of glasses will hurt me)

some thoughts on second gender manifestations
cw: mention of (C)SA.
So i'm re reading Chapter 68 and
Considering that even Gakane didn't sense anything, the chance of Jimmy's manifestation seemed exceptionally low, but one never knew. If Jimmy were to manifest as an Alpha, it wouldn't be a concern. But if he manifested as an Omega, there was a chance that Gakane, being an Alpha, could be affected. 'Well… I will just have to keep a closer eye to ensure that doesn’t happen.' Even if such an event occurred, it was enough to isolate it. While it might have been different if it was Kishiar, who was concealing an immense power that could not even be fully comprehended, Yuder was confident that he could easily isolate individuals of Gakane and Jimmy's caliber alone.
can we linger on this for a second. Please. Yuder, the kid is twelve. You just spent the previous chapter going "as long as there's no murder or anything else emotionally damaging, I can take him along" so you clearly see him as a child. Orr does not seem to practice even engaging people before they are of age if we look at Keilusa and Katchian. (yeah, they're like the highest of nobility, but still.)
is the implication really that second gender manifestations, regardless of age of one of the people involved, has resulted in assault or is this Yuder's past trauma bias showing through?
Because if so, that makes Yuder's discussion with Kishiar about needing regulation and in particular this section from the same chapter particularly sinister?
In his previous life, Yuder had gone through a lot of trouble to push through regulations and laws related to the second gender, against the opposition of greedy nobles. Back then, there were hardly any scholars conducting proper research on the abilities and physical changes of the Awakeners, and it was nearly impossible for the leader of the Cavalry, who came from a commoner background, to correct misconceptions and prejudice alone.
Like, there were barely any laws in the first place, and the ones implemented later apparently came only because Yuder was being pushy about it, but that probably took years. This is painting frankly speaking an incredibly horrifying picture and we're not even taking into consideration the whole sexual slavery thing that did happen that Yuder briefly mentions a couple hundred chapters later. Bestie, I need you to elaborate here I am screaming.

TRIO NAME!! (Chapter 706)
"Ah, right. Only a fellow initiate would do this. Thank you." 'Fellow initiate' referred to the trio of Yuder, Gakane, and Kanna. While she was fond of all her colleagues, Kanna held a special affection for the other two, who had been with her since before the entrance test. Gakane felt the same.

Thinking about how the outcome of the red stone retrieval was the start of the timeline divergences for Kishiar, and it couldn't have been done without the change-up in personnel assigned to the mission.
I've read that the original members assigned to the mission appear again. I'm only on ch.200, so I don't know what their abilities were or how they approached the stone. However, I'm going to guess that things went relatively the same up until the stone was touched. In the second timeline he had Gakane do a test touch with his shadow clone, and Yuder put up a barrier to protect them all when it went wrong. In the first timeline, Kishiar likely would have had to put up that protection himself, getting injured in the process. Perhaps he even touched it himself, since they perhaps didn't have a "Gakane" there.
The interesting thing to observe about the people assigned to the mission in the second timeline is that one of them was Yuder, and then two of them were his friends. Friends that he did not have in the 1st timeline because he was far more distant, or he didn't meet them at the right moment with the right experience and they slipped past each other.
Yuder was likely chosen for the mission this time because of the competence he freely displayed out in the open, and Gakane and Kanna were likely taken into natural consideration because of their association with him. With Kishiar's fascination with him from so early on, it was natural he'd notice them, too.
Later on when it came time to try reading the history of the stone itself, there was another chance that Kishiar could have been injured. He could have touched it and "bounced off a mountain" as Kanna described. I'm not sure Kanna came out of that entirely unscathed, but she seems okay at the moment.
Anyway, it was the resulting ripples of Yuder simply deciding to be a little more sociable this time around that ended up changing the course. It's fascinating.
