Turt’s ask meme for Louis’s future boo Bailey
1. What would be their favorite Disney (or other animated) movie?
His favorite has always been Aladdin and when Gail was first born, asked if she could be named Jasmine. He almost got his way until his parents split, and his request was forgotten in the legal battle that separated him and the unborn Gail. He still loves Aladdin and went as him a couple times for Halloween when he was little. Besides Aladdin, he also really likes Spirit and the very underrated movie Rock a Doodle.
2. What do they usually like for breakfast?
Oatmeal with brown sugar and raspberries. But on the weekends he likes going for something heavier like French Toast.
3. What sort of cuddler are they?
Bailey is always down to cuddle whether one of his plethora of little sisters, his friends, or his partner. One of the side effects of Bailey’s Chi is that he has energy all the time, even when he’s dead tired so he tries to focus that energy into something that makes him happy, like cuddling. So he’ll hold hands or nuzzle or just lie next to someone and call it a day.
4. How do they say “I love you”?
He says it through taking care of someone as in checking in to make sure they had something to eat or if they drank enough water of if they need someone to talk to. He doesn’t actually say “I love you” that often, but you can just feel it when he talks to you. Even though he never got to be a big brother because he and Gail grew up apart, he still lives the big brother lifestyle.
5. What kind of shoes do they wear?
Usually black or blue high top converse, but when he’s in the field (since running’s involved), he’ll wear grey tennis shoes.
6. What is their favorite accessory?
He has a gray hoodie that he likes to wear because he’s always perpetually cold and the inside is the softest fleece you will ever feel. Louis better be ready to live inside Bailey’s hoodie because that will be a thing that happens.
7. Are they more inclined towards fashion or comfort?
Definitely comfort. He doesn’t have as much as a defined aesthetic as his little sister has, but since his Chi requires him to move as fast as he can, he has to wear clothes he can move in.
8. What makes them laugh?
Plants that look like they have human faces, and Bad Lip Readings. He’s a huge fan of situational comedy. He’s currently catching up on all the memes that he’s missed during his years at the Library, so he has a lot to laugh to.
9. Do they have a favorite flower?
One of the only things that can manage to calm Bailey down is gardening, and really loves putting sunflowers on the walls because they’re just so big and bright and happy.
10. Would they be the one to propose to their significant other?
Bailey’s usually reserved in how he interacts with people he doesn’t know, but when it comes to loved ones, he is extra af and pulls out all the stops, including whisking them off their feet and running to their dream destination and proposing then and there. Bailey is slow to get into meaningful relationships, but once he considers you a partner, he most likely wants to spend the rest of his life with you.
11. What bad habits do they have?
He has a lot of nervous energy when he’s still as a result of his Chi, so he’ll bounce his leg, tap his foot, hum, clench his teeth. He also has a habit of talking way too fast without realizing and will have to repeat himself several times because he started at a normal pace and then just speeds up.
12. What are their biggest insecurities?
Whether people actually think of him as a friend or just tolerate him because he’s such a giving person, whether Gail or Leo actually miss him or not, and that his power is useless when compared to fore field users, size manipulators, and mental suggesters.
13. How do they wear their hair?
He wears it natural, sometimes will tie a bandanna around it to keep it out of his face. His is a slightly larger afro and the curls sometimes fall in his eyes so he uses a bandanna to keep it out.
14. Are they an impulse shopper? If so, what would they buy?
Only when it comes to like little dollar store items. He will spend $100 at the dollar store because everything’s only a dollar, but then struggle for half an hour whether to buy a twenty dollar item.
15. When do they usually sleep?
Bailey is the resident old man and gets tired at 9pm because his Chi overworks his body during the day and he gets fatigued easily. In his wing, everyone has to be quiet after 9 or move to another wing because a tired Bailey is not a Bailey you want to be around.
16.What makes them worry?
What Gail’s up to and if she even knows that he’s halfway around the world, if his best friend knows or cares what’s happened to him, whether what happened to Bridgette’s family is his fault, whether his kindness is being taken advantage of,
17. Do they have any creative outlets?
Gardening is one of the only things that can calm him down, so he will spend hours in the Library garden growing everything from food to nice flowers to give to his friends. His goal right now is to grow the biggest eggplant so he can take a picture of it and send it to Philly (and Archer when he eventually ends up arrested) saying “Look it’s you. A giant dick.”
18. How do they comfort an upset loved one?
He will just sit by them and ask if they want to talk about what’s bothering them. If they want to he’ll listen and give them a hug if they want, but if they don’t (which usually is the case given his emotionally constipated ass friends)
19. What are they like when they’re sick?
He’ll act like he’s dying and legit starts to write a will even if he just has like the flu. So far he’s promised most things to Ezra just because Ezra asked Bailey to give him everything, but Bridgette’s gone and changed his will a few times to give her everything. Bailey is only overdramatic when he’s sick because his filter is sick along with him.
20. Do they say what they’re thinking, or keep their thoughts to themselves?
Out of everyone in the Library, Bailey’s definitely one of the quieter ones and doesn’t usually speak his thoughts unless he thinks they’re needed. He’ll really only voice his opinions when he thinks that people are about to make idiots of themselves.
21. What is the best gift they’ve ever received?
When he first got to the Library, he was sad that he couldn’t play video games like he used to, so Karishima made him his own off-brand PS4 to play Uncharted on.
22. Are they good at keeping track of time?
Not at all. Everything always seems super slow to him so he’ll think that when he’s working four hours have gone by but really, it’s just been 17 minutes.
23. What is their favorite ice cream flavor?
Cherry Garcia. Objectively best ice cream flavor.
24. What would they order from a fast food/take-out place?
He’s a Texas kid at heart so his go-to is Whataburger and will order a jalepeno and cheese Whataburger with grilled onions and peppers. At take-out places he loves getting Spicy Pork and egg rolls. Bailey is a very big fan of spice.
25. What is their favorite pizza topping(s)?
Bailey’s the type of guy to pile on ever pizza topping he can think of (he’s a big fan of those Build Your Own Pizza places whenever he’s allowed the leave the Library), so he likes mushrooms, sausage, basil, pineapple, bacon, garlic, and pepperoni.
26. What is their favorite type of cookie?
He’s always a slut for peanut butter cookies.
27. Do they paint their nails?
Sometimes with Gail or Bridgette, but he has to be coerced by one of them because he’s not the type to initiate it himself. The only time he will is when he sees that either them are looking sad, and his big brother instincts will kick in and he’ll pull out every nail color he can find.
28. What is their favorite board game?
He’s a fan of the Game of Life, and he specifically has the Monsters Inc. Special Edition version of the game. It’s one of the games that he and Philly actually manage to get along with while playing.
29. Are they more of a pants or skirts kind of person?
Pants, but typically likes either dark jeans or Bermuda shorts depending on the weather. In hot Texas or hot Egypt, he usually wears Bermuda shorts.
30. Do they dream often? What about?
He sometimes dreams about Gail and what’s she’s up to, but it’s really weird because Gail’s dressed super unlike he remembers her. In those dreams, she always tries to talk to him but he’s always so confused that the dream usually cuts out before he can say anything. Other times he dreams that the Library is on fire and he’s stuck trying to get out and wakes up because he suffocates. Other time he just plain ass dreams that he’s in Houston at community college and then remembers that he never went to college.
31. Do they have any phobias?
He’s deeply afraid of enclosed spaces, crowds, and also bridges for some reason. He’s always afraid they’ll collapse.
32. If they were a pokemon, which would they be?
Cherrim. Loves cherries, loves plants, and deserves the best of life.
33. How well do they handle sea travel? Air travel?
He does not like confined spaces whatsoever. He only likes sea travel if it’s like a cruise ship or something big he can walk around in. Part of the reason he hardly leaves the Library is because you cannot force him on a metal tube of death. It’s not even crashing or falling that worries him. It’s having to sit still for six hours.
34. Which Disney character are they most like?
Nani from Lilo and Stitch. Stuck in the older sibling/parent role, does not deserve to be looking after rambunctious kids but does so anyone, looks great in a crop top.
35. What sort of parent would they be?
He’d have no problem slipping into a parental role given his experience of dealing with kids. He’d be the caring parent that always wants to get his kids to open up and be honest, but also be the parent that is like “Um hell no, you’re not running with scissors. Get back here, idiot.”

Dermatologist's Tips on Exercise and Longevity To Thrive
Tumblr media
Dermatologist offers her personal insights
A regular, weekly exercise routine has been proven to increase longevity and prevent many of the most common health problems.
I’ve been writing about it for years and am a big proponent of exercise for health and vitality. But, how do you stay motivated to get your exercise on a daily basis and how much exercise do you need to do?
How do you stay motivated to exercise every week?
By seeing people who exercise and who look and feel great. My husband, who reads the Wall Street Journal every morning, just sent me a link to a very motivating local woman featured in the WSJ – and we don’t live anywhere near New York. Click here to see the article and photo. I hope to be her at 89!
The article discusses 89 year-old Gail Roper, who lives in Healdsburg (our part of the world), and she is diligent about her exercise. She swims three times a week and more. She is a former U.S. Olympian and has been a Masters swimmer for years. She also finds ways to turn daily housework into fitness exercises such as doing lunges when she vacuums or bicep curls with a cold iron before ironing! It’s creative multitasking and gets the exercises into her day. And – the photo of her in the WSJ shows her energy, happiness and vitality. For me, Gail is a role model. If I resemble Gail in any way when I am 89, I’ll be thrilled.
What diseases does exercise help to prevent and reverse?
The benefits of exercise have been shown to help fight and slow some of the most common health problems::
Heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure and stroke.
Diabetes and obesity. Exercise helps you better maintain a healthy blood sugar and energy level.
Arthritis and back pain (both of which I have battled and I know from personal experience that exercise is essential).
Asthma
Dementia, Alzheimers and Parkinson’s
Cancer (which matters a lot to me thanks to inheriting the BRCA breast and ovarian cancer gene and being a cancer survivor myself).
Exercise has even been shown to reverse cellular aging – Yes, turn back your cellular clock.
Why does exercise keep you healthy?
Exercise changes your body’s physiology:
helping to fight inflammation that promotes cancer, cardiovascular disease and many of the other common health problems;
boosting your immune system; and
lowering your risk of obesity (also linked to health problems and increased risk of cancer).
It probably does so much more that is yet to be discovered. I know that I look and feel so much more alive and energetic after a good workout. The photo of Gail supports this – I want to look as vital as Gail does if I am lucky enough to make it to 89.
How much exercise do you need to stay healthy?
I’ve followed the medical and scientific literature about exercise for years and distilled it to practical terms. My goal is 150 minutes a week of moderate cardio plus strengthening and flexibility workouts too. I aim for 3 weekly 50 minute sessions of moderate cardio. This means:
150 minutes a week (2 hours and 30 minutes total) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity
Measured by being able to talk, but not sing! CDC gives examples as:
walking briskly at 3 miles per hour or faster,
water aerobics,
bicycling slower than 10 miles per hour,
doubles tennis,
ballroom dancing,
general gardening.
-OR-
75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) of vigorous intensity aerobic activity
Measured by being unable to say more than a few words without catching your breath! CDC gives examples as:
jogging or race walking,
swimming laps,
singles tennis,
aerobic dancing,
bicycling 10 miles per hour or faster,
jumping rope,
heavy gardening like digging or hoeing,
hiking uphill or with a heavy backpack.
-OR-
A combination of these performed in at least 10-minute sessions throughout the week. It’s very doable!
The best anti-aging fitness routine.
In addition to cardio exercise, you also want to do:
Strength training to help prevent the age-related loss of muscle mass. You need strength to get you through the normal activities of daily living, such as getting in and out of the bathtub, up stairs, etc. Resistance training also helps keep bones stronger and helps to support your joints. Options include weight training, pushups and squats, yoga, or even heavy gardening.
Flexibility exercises are also important to maintain range of motion for your joints.
Stability exercises are also important to help maintain balance and prevent falls.
Flexibility, strength and stability workouts are why yoga is such a multitasking exercise – you get a three-fer in a yoga class. I’m a fan!
Let Gail be our motivation – at 89 she rock the vitality. It’s spring, capture your natural yearning to go outside for a walk. Sign up for yoga or some weight training at your local gym. Do some stretches with your workouts. Let spring keep us moving.
And, when you are outdoors, be sure to use good sun protection. Wear a hat and sun protective clothing and a good zinc oxide sunscreen.
Click here for my dermatologist’s sun protection tips and solutions.
Note in the photo that Gail is also wearing a full body swimsuit, just like I do when I swim. Yes, I get strange looks in the pool, but my skin will last a lifetime, and I get a better work out thanks to the drag from the suit in the water.

The movie follows Bailey’s new adventure through multiple lives as he, CJ (Kathryn Prescott) and CJ’s best friend Trent (Henry Lau) experience joy, heartbreak, music, laughter and lots of good belly rubs. May 17, 2019: Movie Premiere: A Dog’s Journey
The movie A Dog’s Journey — sequel to A Dog’s Purpose — comes to theaters on May 17th.
Yes, Bailey’s journey (from A Dog’s Purpose) continues in this sequel, both based on the novels of W. Bruce Cameron. The story begins with Bailey (voiced again by Josh Gad) living on the Michigan farm of his “boy,” Ethan, (Dennis Quaid) and Ethan’s wife, Hannah (Marg Helgenberger). He’s got a new playmate — their granddaughter, CJ. When, CJ’s mom, Gloria (Betty Gilpin), takes CJ away, Bailey promises Ethan to find CJ and protect her at any cost. The movie follows Bailey’s new adventure through multiple lives as he, CJ (Kathryn Prescott) and CJ’s best friend Trent (Henry Lau) experience joy, heartbreak, music, laughter and lots of good belly rubs. I’m a fan of both Dennis Quaid and Marg Helgenberger, so I’m happy to see them both again! The movie is directed by TV’s Modern Family’s Emmy-winning director Gail Mancuso and produced by Gavin Polone. See it in movie theaters starting May 17th. Follow A Dog’s Journey on adogsjourneymovie.com and on social @ADogsJourneyMovie.

Wednesday
Need a ladies night? Or a men’s night? Or just a night to get totally wasted and scream and holler when you see men taking off their clothes? Chippendales is coming to town just in time for bachelorette party season. Or a way to unwind after the stress of the holidays? Or it’s cold outside and you miss the sight of shirtless men? Whatever floats your boat or makes you hoot and holler, see it all (well, mostly all) at 8 p.m. Wednesday at House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar St. Tickets start at $25 at livenation.com. Paige Skinner
Thursday
Rover Dramawerks picked Muriel Resnik’s Any Wednesday for its 19th season opener, which you can catch at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at 221 W. Parker Road, Suite 580, Plano. Playgoers 55 years ago (any readers still around?) may remember the play on Broadway with Sandy Dennis and Gene Hackman. Jane Fonda starred in the movie. Familiar plot: Married business tycoon visits mistress in office-paid-for apartment every Wednesday. Complications ensue when client and tycoon’s wife mistakenly get sent to the apartment. Carol M. Rice directs Mark Massey, Jade Reyes, Eddy Herring and Lucia Welch. For info and tickets, roverdramawerks.com or 972-849-0358. Thursday and matinee tickets are $18; others are $24; teacher/student/senior, $20. Reba Liner
It’s been about eight months or so since Justin Timberlake appeared in town, gracing the same American Airlines Center stage that he will again command Thursday night. Such is the magnitude of his star power. After all, there are very few artists who could return to the same scope and size of venue in such a short time. On that last appearance, JT took the sold-out crowd on a journey through his vast solo catalog of hits, enthralling the audience with his slinky dance moves, buttery smooth falsettos and charmingly, magnetic charisma. His shows also skew heavily toward the mom demographic. Much chardonnay will be sold and much is likely to be spilled as the gaggle of 30- and 40-something ladies will undoubtedly raise their glasses high in the air as they swoon and sway to his every move and note. If you’re there, feel free to join in. If you’re not in attendance, your social media feeds will keep you updated minute by minute. 8 p.m. Thursday, American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Ave., $49 and up at ticketmaster.com. Jeff Strowe
Toro y Moi, along with Neon Indian and Washed Out, was a forerunner of the chill wave movement about a decade ago. But, like many in the scene at that time, he’s moved on from the sound, as is evident in his new album, this year’s Outer Peace. One critic described the album as "new disco," while others label it as a funk album rooted in the present. 7 p.m. Thursday, Granada Theater, 3524 Greenville Ave., sold out. Diamond Victoria
Friday
Ella is a girl with a dopey fairy godmother who “blesses” Ella with obedience, which means whatever anyone tells her to do, she does. Even worse, she ends up with a stepmother and stepsisters who know about her quirk and are happy to take advantage. Throw in a handsome prince and adventures with ogres and magic, and you have a twisty retelling of Cinderella. See a song-filled version of Gail Carson Levine’s Newbery-honored fractured fairy tale as the Dallas Children’s Theater stages Ella Enchanted: The Musical at 5938 Skillman St. Friday’s performance is at 7:30 p.m., and the show runs through Feb. 24. Tickets, $15-40, can be found at dct.org. Patrick Williams
Did you know that comedian Iliza Shlesinger got her start here in Dallas? You didn’t? How dare you call yourself a resident! Shlesinger was born in New York, but she grew up in Dallas and took her first steps onstage as an improv comedian before heading off to college and a lucrative stand-up comedy career. She returns to her homeland for a show at The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St., at 7 p.m. Friday. Shlesinger cut her teeth in stand-up at The Hollywood Improv and quickly caught on with her unique take and skill. She found fame as the first female comedian to win the NBC reality competition Last Comic Standing and began regularly touring theaters across the country and the world. Tickets are between $32 and $209 depending on available seating and can be purchased at theatredallas.com. Danny Gallagher
There is a story behind Amaluna, the Cirque du Soleil show making a stop at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, 1000 Lone Star Parkway. Here goes: Queen Prospera rules over a magical island populated by all women until a group of men wash ashore shipwrecked. Her daughter … OK, look. It’s Cirque du Soleil. You know, lots of brightly colored leotards and amazing acrobats dangling from straps above the audience, flying through the air launched from seesaws to the sound of mildly weird new-agey music. There are two shows Friday, at 4:30 and 8 p.m. Adult ticket prices start at $63, with discounts for children, and an assortment of special packages are available at cirquedusoleil.com. The circus continues with shows until March 3. Patrick Williams
As do many institutions at their silver anniversary, sports-talk station KTCK-AM 1310 and 96.7 FM “The Ticket” is getting nostalgic for the 25th iteration of its signature P1 fan festival. Along with celebrity guests Troy Aikman, Jay Novacek and Daryl “Razor” Reaugh, Ticketstock 25 has a Ticket Time Tunnel, where Tier One hosts discuss the history of the station in panel discussions, and there’s an interactive Ticket Hall of Fame with memorabilia, audio, Marconi Awards and retro Ticket merch. As usual, the Timewasters will perform Saturday at 6 p.m., this year from a greatest-hits set list, with Fox 4 sports anchor Mike Doocy — the ultimate good sport and straight guy during his frequent guest-hosting appearances — as emcee. Ticketstock 25 is Friday and Saturday at the Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway. Doors open at noon both days and admission is free. Visit theticket.com for the full schedule of on-air roundtables and gotta-be-there-to-hear-’em Ticket Time Tunnel panels. Jesse Hughey
In the sage words of the world’s pre-eminent British girl band: spice up your life. Winter doldrums be damned, things are getting hot at ZestFest Jan. 25-27 at the Irving Convention Center, 500 W. Las Colinas Blvd. This three-day celebration of all things bold and piquant is packed with cooking demonstrations; celebrity chefs like Jon Bonnell, Eddie Deen and MasterChef champ Shaun O’Neale; gourmet vendors to help you level up in your own kitchen; live music; plus food samples and beer tastings aplenty. For those of us with stomachs of steel and something to prove, there’s a jalapeño-eating challenge and the annual “Atomic Wing” contest. Pack your antacid and plan a full day on Friday from 1 to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door, though kids 10 and under get in free. For more info, check out zestfest.net. Jennifer Davis-Lamm
Creator and headliner of last year’s inaugural I Am Dallas Hip Hop event, Mozez Tha Great performs his long-awaited EP Undefined in its entirety as part of a stacked bill at The Prophet Bar on Friday night. Mozez has gone through his fair share of setbacks over the years regarding his music career. A few years ago, Undefined was ready for release, but when an engineer who was commissioned to mix and master the album took off with Mozez’s money, its completion got delayed. Catch Mozez along with several other of Dallas’ best up-and-coming hip-hop artists. With Lou Charle$, Mokah Soulfly, Smoothvega, Drama Tha King and Raw Elementz, 8:30 p.m. Friday, The Prophet Bar, 2548 Elm St., $10. Diamond Victoria
Thursday is on a small run of dates where they play two of their classic LPs, Full Collapse and War All the Time, front to back. Though they have a rather extensive back catalog, these are the two records that changed their fortunes and gained a huge audience. The first night — Friday night — is devoted to Full Collapse, the record that broke the band out of the New Jersey scene and into the national spotlight. The next night is devoted to War All the Time, the major-label debut that brought the band to larger acclaim. Normally shows like these happen in New York, LA or Chicago, so Dallas is very lucky to have these dates. Thursday is not really an active band as compared with the 2000s, so you should strongly consider going if you’ve never seen this powerful and legendary band before. 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26 at Trees, 2709 Elm St., $29-$36 at ticketfly.com. Eric Grubbs
Saturday
Sport is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment,” according to the Google search we just did. By that definition, cheerleading is 100 percent, no doubt in anyone’s mind, a sport. Backflips are physical. Somersaults must be learned and perfected. And competitive cheerleaders, well, compete. See them do that Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26-27 at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas, 650 S. Griffin St at National Cheerleaders Association National Championships. Tickets start at $20 at eventbrite.com. Paige Skinner
Finnish vocal ensemble Rajaton joins the Dallas Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the music of megastar pop group Abba, who are enjoying a much deserved critical reconsideration. Expect orchestral renditions that shine new light on the Swedish artists’ soaring, emotionally raw classics, including “Mamma Mia,” “Waterloo,” “Dancing Queen” and more. There are three performances: at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27. All performances take place at the Meyerson, 2301 Flora St. Tickets start at $20. More info at mydso.com. Jonathan Patrick
The Boy Who Would Be Captain Hook is a funny and moving play about a boy who was born without a right hand. When doctors fitted him with a prosthetic hook, he was sidelined at recess until the other kids asked to play Peter Pan with him. Of course, he played Captain Hook — until he grew tired of it. The Boy Who Would Be Captain Hook takes a look at David Harrell’s childhood living with a disability as he tells the story of how he wished to change his own narrative and not be just the boy with a hook. The play is at 3 p.m. Saturday at Charles W. Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive, Richardson. Visit eisemanncenter.com for more information and tickets ($25). Paige Skinner
KNON is the nonprofit, listener-supported community radio station that has been showcasing the blues in DFW for 20 years. From the up-and-coming, 11-year-old Jack Barksdale to headliners like the award-winning blues elders in Gregg A. Smith and the Blues Revue Band, the 20th annual KNON Blues Festival will be two days packed with Texas talent. Before hosting festivals, KNON released compilations of blues music from all over DFW. The radio station has brought blues a long way over the years and shows no sign of stopping. The festival will be held at Poor David’s Pub, where blues has been put on display in Dallas for over 40 years. Keeping up with what is seemingly a festival tradition, Dickey’s Barbecue will be available for $10 a plate. 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26-27 at Poor David’s Pub, 1313 Lamar St., $20-$150 at eventbrite.com. Jacob Vaughn
Blake Ward is one of the busiest DJs in Dallas, with four different weekly events and recently having taken up the management of his new Four Four Booking agency. He has a long-standing Saturday night Glamorama gig at Beauty Bar. As far as promotion goes, Ward is relentless, a perfect example of how to connect, inform and grow a DJ audience. 9 p.m. Saturday, Beauty Bar, 1924 N. Henderson Ave., free. Wanz Dover
Sunday
International Holocaust Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi extermination camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Name doesn’t ring a bell? Then mark the day with a visit to the Dallas Holocaust Museum and Center for Education and Tolerance, 211 N. Record St., Suite 100. Remember, those who forget the past are … well, just doomed. The museum is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and admission is $10 for adults, with discounts for kids and seniors. Find more information at dallasholocaustmuseum.org. Patrick Williams
Monday
Who doesn’t love The Bachelor? You? OK, no one asked you. Jeez. Well somebody loves it, because the entire franchise has spanned more than 40 seasons and people keep watching. This season, four Dallas women are vying for virgin Colton Underwood’s love and cherry as America watches. If you don’t have anyone to watch it and cringe over it with, then head to Steam Theory Brewing Co., 340 Singleton Blvd., Suite 100, at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, to bond with fellow Bachelor lovers at the Bachelor Nation Watching Party. Visit steamtheorybrewing.com for more information. Paige Skinner
Tuesday
Namo in West Village, 3699 McKinney Ave., is hosting a sake-tasting class from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Those attending will get six hand rolls matched with sakes from TYKU Sake, whose reps will be on hand to tell you what to look for in the traditional Japanese wine made from rice, water, yeast and koji (a kind of mold used in Japanese cuisine). Tickets are $50 at eventbrite.com. Patrick Williams
Wednesday
The Disney empire is a vast, all-encompassing thing. They’re the masters of the Ice Capades, one of the biggest names in Broadway and have a virtual lock on the kids pajama market. Now, their reach expands to the world of a cappella singing. Yep, the domain once reserved for Ivy League a-holes in striped jackets is now replete with mouse ears: meet DCappella, Disney Music’s a cappella super group. Assembled by Deke Sharon, who’s like the Lou Pearlman of the a cappella world, these seven men and women don’t need backing instruments. It’s just their sweet, sweet voices and sculpted eyebrows up onstage, belting out all your favorite Disney tunes at Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie, 1001 Performance Place, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. Tickets to see the Disney-fied vocal acrobatics are $19.50 to $54.50 at axs.com. Jennifer Davis-Lamm
In Incognito, playwright Nick Payne tells three different stories to better explore the human mind. One is about Thomas Stoltz Harvey stealing the recently dead Albert Einstein’s brain. The other is about a man named Harvey undergoing brain surgery, and the third is about Martha, a clinical neuropsychologist making some changes in her life after her marriage falls apart. See the play Jan. 30 through Feb. 23 at Bryant Hall, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd. Tickets start $25 at secondthoughttheatre.com. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Paige Skinner

Turt’s ask meme for Gail the good good child
1. What would be their favorite Disney (or other animated) movie?
If anyone asked her, she’d say she didn’t like Disney movies because they were for kids or they weren’t cool, but she secretly loves the Aristocats. One of her favorite characters anywhere has always been Marie the kitty.
2. What do they usually like for breakfast?
Egg and chorizo burrito. Bailey and her both eat a little too much spicy food but when you live in Texas, what can you do?
3. What sort of cuddler are they?
Gail usually doesn’t like to be touched unless she knows the person very well. Once she gets to the Library and reconciles with her brother or gets close with any of the Scholars, she’ll just swing her legs over her friends and just chill there or rest her head on their lap. She doesn’t like to cuddle in the traditional sense of being hugged, but she’ll be happy just flopping on you and asserting her dominance.
4. How do they say “I love you”?
It’s usually preceded by an insult like “Damn you’re super stupid, but I love you”, but she more shows it by entertaining you and sitting down and talking about feelings. Both and Bailey are big believers in sharing feelings, just Gail is a little bit more forward about it. She is honest though in that if she says she loves you, she means it.
5. What kind of shoes do they wear?
Black combat boots or gray converse.
6. What is their favorite accessory?
A black and pearl choker that Bailey’s ex-boyfriend and her current “guardian” Leo gave her.
7. Are they more inclined towards fashion or comfort?
Definitely fashion. For a fourteen year old girl, she makes very good fashion choices that make conservative adults very scared. She’s a fashion punk and she’s coming for your pearls.
8. What makes them laugh?
Bailey or Leo doing anything stupid, anything John Mulaney, eventually the catfights between Ashi and Philly, and of course Ezra being a total dweeb lord. She and Sarita are going to become best friends.
9. Do they have a favorite flower?
Begonias. Not only do they sound funny, they’re beautiful and ombre.
10. Would they be the one to propose to their significant other?
Totally. She is tired of being alone and just wants someone to hold. Plus opening that ring box is a power move and has big dick energy like her.
11. What bad habits do they have?
Being way to blunt about her feelings, shutting people out who’ve hurt her but haven’t meant to, getting into arguments for the fun of it, holding a grudge like no other.
12. What are their biggest insecurities?
Honestly, Gail is one of the few kids with stellar self esteem. The only insecurity she has is if Bailey will want to see her after all these years.
13. How do they wear their hair?
Short, half shaved and natural. Sometimes she’ll straighten it for the aesthetic, but a girl has got to slay with natural hair.
14. Are they an impulse shopper? If so, what would they buy?
Oh definitely. She will go to target with just 20 bucks and come out with 100 dollars worth of stuff, usually clothes, makeup, and movies. She is a huge movie buff and watches odd sci-fi and horror with Leo all the time.
15. When do they usually sleep?
She usually tries to go to bed at around 10:30pm just so she has time to bounce around dreams. Time moves a lot faster in dreams so she has to act fast.
16.What makes them worry?
Not being able to find Bailey, not liking what she’ll find when she finds him, leaving Leo behind to face another one of his closest friends leaving, the American prison system, taxes.
17. Do they have any creative outlets?
She’s been doing digital art since she was around ten, and she’s helped Leo with some of his album covers, so when she comes to the Library, she’ll be totally down to do some covers for Ashi when she makes music. Plus she’ll do digital art of all her friends.
18. How do they comfort an upset loved one?
Usually trying to talk to them about their feelings, and putting a hand on their shoulder while she makes them iced tea. She’s not necessarily the greatest as comfort since she’s usually been on the receiving end, but she’s learned a lot from both Bailey and Leo and she’d do an alright job.
19. What are they like when they’re sick?
No one is ever sure when Gail is sick because she always acts normal. You can only tell she’s sick if you come close to her and see that her body temperature is radiating heat and she is looking through you. Otherwise, she’s great at keeping her cool.
20. Do they say what they’re thinking, or keep their thoughts to themselves?
Gail is one of the only kids at the Library who doesn’t hide their feelings behind a twenty foot wall. She will 100% let you know what she thinks about you whether it’s that you’re the most annoying person she’s ever met or that she’s afraid that she won’t like what she’ll find when she reunites with Bailey.
21. What is the best gift they’ve ever received?
The last gift she got from Bailey when she was nine was a stuffed pig that she still carries around with her (though heavily hidden in a backpack). His name is Sir Oinks of the North Sea.
22. Are they good at keeping track of time?
If she’s waiting for something, yes. But in the sense of generally knowing what time it is, she can be gone for a week and think it’s only been a day.
23. What is their favorite ice cream flavor?
Chocolate chip cookie dough. She’s that asshole who takes all the cookie dough from the container and just leaves it as “chocolate chip ice cream”
24. What would they order from a fast food/take-out place?
Kung Pao chicken, Broccoli beef, spicy pork, so many dumplings, and about eight fortune cookies just for her.
25. What is their favorite pizza topping(s)?
Meat Lovers with jalapenos. Sausage, chorizo, pepperoni, ham, chicken, and really anything meaty that would most likely cause heartburn.
26. What is their favorite type of cookie?
Simple chocolate chip.
27. Do they paint their nails?
The only acceptable color is black, but sometimes she’ll paint her nails blue when she misses her brother, or white.
28. What is their favorite board game?
Guess Who. Since getting telepathy, she’s learned how to cheat by reading minds, but she loves asking questions based on vibe rather than looks (ie: “Do they look like a Republican?”, “Would they go down on Kathy Bates?”)
29. Are they more of a pants or skirts kind of person?
Its a toss up. 50% of the time she wears ripped jeans or cutoffs, and then the other 50%, she’s in punk skirts and leggings.
30. Do they dream often? What about?
She’s recently been able to telepathically link herself to people in her dreams, so usually she uses her dreams as a way to talk to Bailey and try to find out where he is. She hasn’t gotten very far, but when talking to Bailey doesn’t work, she’ll just jump around in people’s heads and try to see what’s up with them. It’s a fun exercise and she hasn’t been caught.... yet.
31. Do they have any phobias?
Ants, bears, and vomit.
32. If they were a pokemon, which would they be?
Mew, small and suspiciously cute, but is very powerful and could fuck up your day if you try to cross it.
33. How well do they handle sea travel? Air travel?
She doesn’t mind either. She gets a little queasy on airplanes, but she handles it a lot better than her brother. She doesn’t get as claustrophobic.
34. Which Disney character are they most like?
Moana. Spiritual, on the hunt for a dude that definitely fucked up, bless by the hair gods, and isn’t afraid to hit someone with something big and flat.
35. What sort of parent would they be?
I don’t think Gail would ever become a mom, but become the cool aunt to Bailey’s kids that bring them gifts from all over the world and remind them how big of a dipshit their father is. Bailey is equal parts grateful that Gail wants to be a part of his and his kids’ lives, and equal parts insulted that Gail has this many stories about him being stupid.

Week-End Update: A Higher Calling
I think we can all agree that dogs are pretty amazing animals. They are capable of giving an inordinate amount of love to make our lives better. They are members of our family and, for many, being our constant companions and providing us with emotional support is a job for which they are well-equipped without any special training at all. Some, however, seem to have a special calling and ability to train to become a service dog and what they can do in that role is monumental to their human. This week, Abbey & Gail both took their first step towards their ultimate goal of becoming service dogs: they met the humans who will work with trainers to help them achieve the esteemed rank of service dog.
Our buddy, “Big Max” the Beagle-Border Collie mix also found his perfect furever family as did Arabelle, Moses, Razberry, William (now Finnegan), Zelda, Zola & Zion! Zelda & Zola would like to thank Coldwell Banker for their annual Homes For Dogs event since their met their new families at the event!

It was a busy week-end for us with the fun Upper Providence Community Day event on Saturday and a few of our pups did some meeting & greeting at the dedication of  Mandy’s Memorial Playground in Phoenxville this afternoon. We were honored to be invited as our pups know that, if you can’t be as lucky as Dodger FKA Jacoby & Bailey (FKA Buttercup) were to be adopted by a DiGirolomo, you may be lucky enough to be DiGirolomo adjacent by getting adopted by a friend or neighbor of the family. If you’re in the area, the playground is a bright, colorful and safe space for the kids to play and a great addition to the community.

“We have renamed Checkers his new name is Jax.  He is settling in great.  He and Boone are doing very good together we brought Jax home on Wednesday and Boone did okay but Sunday was a real turning point he actually let Jax lay with him now the cuddle on the bed and Boone’s “chair”.  Of course they are like little kids and if one has a toy the other wants it so but I couldn’t be more pleased with the transition. I definitely send you some pictures.
Thanks for checking in and for all the Great Work you do to get all the animals great forever homes.”

”Jax is doing great! His nickname is shadow because he follows us everywhere. He is always so happy, tail wagging and smiley.
Jax gets along with all animals and people. One of the best parts of my day is waking up to his huge wet Pyr nose in my face.  He has put on a good amount of weight and is starting to look like a healthy mature Pyr 🙂 He also graduated from the crate and is allow to roam the house when we aren’t home.
We recently started fostering puppies through TLC and Jax has been a great playmate and role model. Can you remember the Jax we brought home? You wouldn’t recognize this well behaved dog! He was the perfect addition to our family and we are very grateful for everything TLC does to help save these sweet pups.
Here are a few recent pictures! “
  Dean
“Dean is doing very well, and I couldn’t be more happy with him.  He’s super smart and already picking up on the housebreaking training I’ve begun.  He’ll be staying Dean, by the way…I just love the name.  He loves my two kitties and hey love him back…they’ve been running around the house together.  I’ll be sure to post pictures to TLC’s Facebook page periodically.
He’ll be visiting the vet next week for an initial check up, and I’ll be bringing copies of all his medical records.  Once he’s old enough to be neutered, and the procedure is done, I’ll contact you to coordinate the refund of that neuter fee.
I haven’t checked the microchip info, but will do so ASAP and make any changes should they be necessary.
Thank you and your team for bringing him into my life.  He’s already brought lots of joy to my every day.”

“We ended up renaming Dillon to Leo. He is absolutely the best pup and is doing so incredibly well ! We are so impressed by him every day. We had our Vet checkup this past Saturday and will be going back in 3 weeks for some more shots. Our vet recommended to wait till Leo is 6 months old to get him neutered. I’ve attached a couple pictures of Leo for you guys !
Thanks so much !”

“Thanks for following up! Bailey is staying Bailey, and she is doing well! She settled pretty quickly into our family, and we’ve started to learn her likes (chewtoys, sticks, peanut butter) and her dislikes (going outside in the rain!)
She has her first vet appointment this Thursday, and we have signed her up for insurance through PetPlan. She’s been very good at learning good doggie behavior, but we’re hoping to reach out to trainers soon to help work on her jumping. We are so lucky to have found her, and we can’t thank you enough for matching us up with her.
We have a few pictures attached to this email as well.”

“Max is settling in well! We have been visiting the dog park daily along with daily walks. We have a vet appointment scheduled for this Friday. We have been working on training- Max now wears a gentle leader on walks due to pulling, but is becoming more comfortable with it. I am also working with him on basic commands. Thank you again for bringing him into my life!!”

“Thank you so much for your email. Kurt is doing great. We decided to keep his name. He is such a sweet puppy. The entire family is in love with him…he is already good friend with our neighbor’s dog and loves to walk to school with all the kids. “
  Pebbles FKA Cookie
“Cookie is doing well, she quickly learns what we expect of her and slept all night in a crate next to the crate of our 2 other dogs.  Since we always ask the dogs if they want a “Cookie” we figured it would be best to change her name.  Yesterday we decided on Pebbles and she seems to respond to it already.  We have a vet appointment for her next Wednesday.  I was going to take her to Berks County Dog Training Club but it is the same night as Freckles Agility Training, I am looking for another place to take her.  I completely agree that training is necessary.
All my dogs, current and past, have had training for obedience, therapy dogs, CGC and agility training.  I will most likely take Pebbles for agility training after Freckles is finished.
One of the best benefits of getting Pebbles is that she and Freckles (the rescue that we got last Sept.  and is afraid of dogs) get along famously and Freckles is even playing with her.  I will try to get some pictures of the 3 dogs together
If Freckles and Pebbles get a little too wild and start growling at each other our 10 year old pom will go and stand between them, it is so funny, he just stands there until they stop then goes and lays down.  I think that she is the perfect addition to our house.”

“Hello to love a canine rescue. Back in April we adopted a beautiful puppy by the name of Carolina. Thought you might like some pictures of her since she has grown a lot. We have since changed her name to Cali.”
We can’t believe that’s been a whole year since Angeline’s fluffballs were adopted. We knew they’d get big and we were right . . .
