I can’t ship Kakashi with anyone but Gai but I can ship Gai with any man that even thinks about wanting to fight him. Gai is just too full of love and power (and most of the ships I enjoy are enemies LOL)

academic rival's au, but picture two people arguing (debating, flirting, whatever works-) very heatedly and nobody knows what tf they are talking about. They are geniuses in their field but to everyone else it is way too obscure or niche and specific for the general public to even be aware of, so the entirety of the school body is just convinced that these two weirdo's are perfect for each other actually. What ship first came to mind?

KakaBaki because in my Collage professor’s au they’re both history professor’s and one of their favorite pass time’s is arguing about how their paper’s/information is wrong XD

But also i can see this working for a few

KakaObi with a literature focus. Kakashi loves romances, Obito loves drama’s, and those two cross over each other often so there are arguments about the meaning/understanding of certain books (or sometimes shows XD)

RinShiz they’re both doctor’s with niche smills (shizune with poison’s, rin with surgery) so you bet there would be some conversations

GaiKisa. I think they’d both have a lot of knowledge about sports and physical therapy and it would lead to a lot of arguments because they simply don’t agree. Like they watch a football* game together and end up arguing over a yellow card call because Kisame thinks it wasn’t actually ‘unsporting behaviour’ but Gai fully agree’s with the ref and think’s it might even go to red card if the player keeps arguing and that’s justified in his opinion.

*football =soccer. I was raised by a spanish man and lived in england/cyprus for years. I say football now

Hockey Au

Kisame versus Gai.

That was the face off happening in the centre of the rink, and Gai couldn’t have asked for a better challenge.

“You’re going to lose, Maito.” Kisame grinned wide enough that Gai could see his pointy front teeth.

Gai couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s what you said last time,” he reminded his opponent. “And if i remember correctly, the score ended up being five to three in my favor.”

His taunt was rewarded with a dissatisfied grunt.

“Today’s going to be different.”

“Not if I have anything to say about it,” digging his skates into the ice, he waited impatiently for the puck to drop. “Lose pays for dinner?”

The grin returned to Kisame’s face, wider and a little more terrifying if Gai was being honest.

“I hope you like sushi.”

“I do,” Gai confirmed. “But we’ll be having curry tonight.”

The ref released the puck and their sticks collided in the centre of the ice, kick starting the game.

Gai: Great! It’s a date!

Kisame: … I meant that as a threat.

Gai: See you at six! Don't be late!

Kisame: what…

Itachi: this seems on point for him

Kisame: did i just get a date!? When i didn’t want one?

Itachi: yes. Now, what will you be wearing. It’s gai so anything will go well with him but i think you need something youthful. Something that really screams ‘i’m in the springtime of my youth’

Kisame was hopeless for Gai as soon as they met, and Itachi thinks it's the funniest thing ever (even if he won't show it). The way Kisame won't shut up about Gai and keeps planning out their next fight. Delightful.

Somehow, Gai forgetting who he is, just makes Kisame want him more. A man so confident in his abilities that he forgets who his enemy is? that's a strong opponent and someone Kisame would love to conquer. Itachi doesn't have the heart to tell him that Gai actually has face blindness and isn't doing this just to get under Kisame's skin.

Kisame never knew that he could desire being stuck between a man's thighs, but looking up at Gai with one leg on either side of his head in the middle of a battle? he's having feelings and they're not just for fighting.

Dates would absolutely include a spar. Doesn't matter if it's a first date or a hundredth date. Both of them want a spar and they're getting a spar. this is how their relationship started and it's how they keep the blood-hot passion of youth flowing.

Does Kagami care that he should not have a crush on an enemy nin? no. He gives zero shits. Does he find it a little funny that when Itachi tells Tobi about his crush, Tobi looks like he's about to try and set him on fire/ Possibly.

Gai actually does remember Kagami, but he never remembers his name or what he looks like. When he gushes about Kagami to his friends, it's always about his strength and speed. Unsurprising, since Gai values strength in the people he likes.

During one of their many fights, Kisami tells Gai it's time for him to leave, but before he can he finds Gai standing in front of him holding out a sunflower towards him. Something he has actually been bringing with him on every mission, just in case. When Kagami asks what this is, Gai tells him straight up that it's a present to hold onto until their next fight. That's the moment Kisami knows Gai's partially messing him with the whole 'i don't remember you' thing, and it's both adorable and really friggen annoying.
