I just finished xena warrior princess and romantic relationship wise they raised the bar. I mean they literally went through hell and back and at some point of the show it wasn't "subtext" it was just context that you would understand if you take out the idea that they're "just friends."

I really love how much xena and gabrielle really changed each other in many ways. Both were on the spectrum of what is good vs bad until the story drifts to understanding some things are not gonna go as expected and it can force you to do what is necessary. However, what's more important is how you go about it ( doingright thing), don't lose yourself, and love comes in different forms.

It makes me happy to see Xena who used to keep to herself and just had one goal in mind for whatever mission her and gabrielle go on. As time goes by, she eventually lets her guard down around Gabrielle and very vocal to how she feels for her. The minor things I notice is how she hugs Gabrielle with such care and the head kisses she leaves on Gabrielle's head. As gabrielle always reciprocate the same comfort and always talk Xena back on the moral path. Especially, when Xena feels like she needs to be punished for the things she had did in the past and Gabrielle's words always brings her back to how she's changed and doesn't need to resort to her old ways.

By the time season six was out, I feel like everyone (producers, actors, directors, etc) just wanted to go full out on showing their relationship and despite how their fates would change, they would always find each other.

Xena and gabrielle's relationship really set the bar high and I have yet to see what show or movie that has a couple that's second place or close.

Summary: Xena but 1000x gayer with a happy ending. I took out the heteronormativity, added/changed a lot of scenes, made more characters lgbt+. The only deaths for Gabrielle and Xena are the ones they come back from. This is a slow burn romance between Gabrielle and Xena. WarriorBard is endgame.

Xena is known the world over as the Destroyer of Nations, but after a run in with Hercules & Iolaus and being made to run a gauntlet by her men, Xena has changed. Feeling guilty for what she's done, she decides to end it all. That is until she sees a young blonde woman stand up to her captors and try to protect the people from her village. In Gabrielle, Xena finds a reason to keep living and starts her path to redemption.

Gabrielle is a village girl. When Draco's men attack her home and try to capture her and her family & friends, Gabrielle is saved by Xena: Warrior Princess. Gabrielle has always wanted to study in Athens. Inspired by the older woman's heroics, Gabrielle decides to follow her in the hope of becoming a hero like her and having adventures instead of telling them. In Xena, Gabrielle finds a place to belong and starts her journey of self descovery.
