okay really funny thing happened, the totally legal site im watching this movie on isnt the best, so sometimes movies and series episodes will just be cut short abruptly. so unless the credits last for ten minutes, im missing a sizable part of the movie. and i do not care enough to find some other way to watch the last scene in full.

and like, thoughts: i didnt really hate it? like, i was coming to this movie thinking it was gonna be absolute trash, and it was not. i mean, it wasnt especially good or anything, but it was not that bad. yeah the dialogue is kinda cringe at times but eh, its really not anything new for a romance movie.

oh and it was surprisingly hot how gabriel just picked julianne up in that one part like she weighed nothing. i mean yeah her actor is pretty tiny but not that tiny.

and and the like "good boy" dudes line at 1:37:33 was really funny. i liked him just generally as well. has this vibe that i enjoy.

Cute romance by young, new, and self published author. Very relatable female lead. If you enjoyed The Unrequited, you will like this book for all of the same reasons. Quick and easy read, only 240. She isn’t perfect, she clumsy, and I wouldn’t even say she’s socially awkward, she just a normal college student in her early 20s. She’s a fun narrator. This author has a lot of potential and her writing will only get better.

Troubled rich girl gets sent off to a catholic boarding school and falls for the asshole Dean of the school. Smut is pretty good, plot works. I’m not going to say it’s bad, I think whether or not it’s enjoyable depends on the person. It wasn’t bad, I just wasn’t obsessed. If you’re just trying to live vicariously through her (aren’t we all), then it works!

Really good start, and I do mean GREAT start… I just feel like the sex scene came too soon (Ch. 9/32) and it threw me off but I also like SUPER slow burns. It’s still a good book. I enjoyed the male love interest, Professor Harlo. They’re cute together. Grump and Sunshine.

Most beautiful romance series I’ve ever read, best written books by Jessica Hawkins. I recommend all of her other books. Lake is 16 when she first meets Manning but nothing sexual happens between them for another 3 books until she’s in her 20s. Beautiful slow burn with characters full of depth.

Sinner by Sierra Simone- ⭐️💦

Brother’s Best Friend & religious themes

Amazing character creation and mapping. These characters feel real! This book is about “teaching” a girl about sex before she becomes a nun. It’s not just a bang bang, hump hump book. It has heart and it really good. If you enjoy religious themed romance, you may enjoy Priest by Sierra Simone too. I didn’t 💀

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas- 💦

Most popular forbidden romance so whatever you’ve heard about it, dump it. This might be the most tame book on this list. Pacing is good, well written main character. Insane amounts of smut but it doesn’t drive the story forward so feel free to skip it if you get tired.

Love Unexpected by Q. B. Tyler- 💦

This book is HOT! However after the first few scenes, I got a bit tired of the smut. Well written enough female lead with a rushed ending. However if you just need something to read and not despise it, it’s good enough.

Jessica is my favorite author so I’m a bit biased but she definitely isn’t a smut writer. This novella would’ve been better without smut however it isn’t super present and doesn’t really drive the story forward so don’t feel like you’re missing anything if you skip the smut!

I can't believe there are people still trying to both-sides this. Like I saw someone compare Crowley not telling Aziraphale about the Book of Life to Aziraphale not telling Crowley about Agnes Nutter's prophecies which is? I think people forget how bad what Aziraphale did in season 1 actually was. Like.

Aziraphale found the book and didn't tell Crowley what it was. Fine. He then deciphered the prophecy and found the Antichrist. Crowley calls him in the middle of this and Aziraphale flat-out lies to him:

A: “Open thine eyes and read, I do say, foolish principalitee, for thy cocoa doth grow... cold". "Thy cocoa doth grow cold"? What cocoa-- Oh! [phone rings]. C: Any news? Found the missing Antichrist yet? A: No. No news. Nothing. Nothing at all. If I had anything, I would tell you, obviously. Immediately. We're friends. Why would you even ask? C: Oh, there's no news here either. Call me if you find anything. A: Absolutely. Why would you think I wouldn't?

Aziraphale finishes deciphering the prophecy and does not tell Crowley. He starts planning how to tell Heaven instead. Then he schedules a meeting with Heaven. He tells the archangels that Hell lost the Antichrist, but backs out of telling them where the Antichrist actually is when they say they still want the war to happen.

Then Aziraphale returns to Earth. He recruits Shadwell to keep an eye on Adam, but doesn't tell him Adam is the Antichrist. Crowley calls and schedules the bandstand meeting. This is going on 24 hours after he deciphered the prophecy. Aziraphale once again lies to Crowley's face:

C: Any news? A: Um… What-what kind of news would that be? C: Well, have you found the missing Antichrist's name, address and shoe size yet? A: His shoe size? Why-- Why would I have his shoe size? C: It's a joke. I've got nothing either. A: It's the Great Plan, Crowley.

This conversation ends with:

A: Even if I did know where the Antichrist was, I wouldn't tell you, we're on opposite sides! C: We're on our side! A: There is no "our side", Crowley! Not anymore! It's over.

The next morning, Aziraphale comes across Gabriel jogging in the park. He tries to talk Gabriel out of the war again. Meanwhile, Hastur and Ligur confront Crowley at the movies. Crowley goes to Aziraphale and begs him to leave again. Aziraphale refuses because he wants to ~talk to God~ first. Crowley - thinking they are out of options and with Hell now actively after - says he's leaving the planet.

If Aziraphale had told Crowley the truth at any point, they could have been together for everything that followed. They could have dealt with Hastur and Ligur together, matched two-on-two. Aziraphale could have been the one handling the Holy Water. Crowley could have been there while Aziraphale talked to the Metatron.

He could have dealt with Shadwell. Aziraphale wouldn't have discorporated. The fire wouldn't have happened. Or, even if it did all happen the same, Crowley at least would have known what happened instead of showing up to an inferno and thinking his best friend was dead.

So I'm like. Imagine if Crowley did that. Imagine the inverse scenario. Hear me out.

At the beginning of season 1, Crowley is handed the Antichrist. Aziraphale learns from Gabriel that things are afoot. Crowley delivers the Antichrist and then immediately contacts Aziraphale to fill him in. It then takes a lot of talking, 6 hours of drinking, etc. for Crowley to convince Aziraphale that they should stop the apocalypse. The way he's finally able to convince him is to rationalize it as Aziraphale thwarting Crowley's Evil.

Now imagine if, instead of calling Aziraphale, Crowley agonized over what to do with his knowledge. Imagine he tries to talk Hastur, Ligur, and Beelzebub out of it. He agonizes over it some more. He tries talking to Beelzebub again. Meanwhile Aziraphale is desperately trying to figure out what's going on, he's contacting Crowley multiple times, and Crowley is outright lying to him. Imagine Crowley takes this issue all the way to Satan, gets told yet again the exact same thing everybody has been telling him, and only then turns to Aziraphale for help. Fucking imagine that.

That is what Aziraphale did in season 1. He did not trust Crowley, and Crowley suffered for it. Crowley's trauma from the bookshop fire is a result of Aziraphale choosing Heaven over Crowley over and over again.

This is also imo what's being referenced in the graverobber episode, with Aziraphale having to talk himself into saving Morag's life. By the time Aziraphale stops dithering, it's always too late.

May 2024 TBR--

Connor Cow and I are excited to talk about the books we're planning on reading in May. (AKA look at my cute stuffed cow because my physical TBR is TINY.) I have three Kindle books and three NetGalley ARCs I plan on reading during the month so the physical TBR for the month is small. I'm so excited for my reading plans for the month. I've already started one of the Kindle books and I am INVESTED.

Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven by Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo-- I'm continuing my reread of the Teen Titans graphic novel series. Up next we see Beast Boy and Raven meet and we see them starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together. This isn't my favorite of the series (that one's next month), but I still enjoy the Teen Titans graphic novels so much.

Aesop's Fables by Aesop-- I found this beautiful collection of Aesop's Fables when visiting a small bookstore in San Antonio a few months ago and I decided this would probably be a good choice for May since I am back to school and I need some light reads to help me push through the month. There are more than 200 short fables (less than one page per) that use animals to discuss human problems. Some are as short as two sentences. Some are as long as five or six sentences. I'm hoping to finish this one early on in the month.

Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang (Kindle)-- Okay. So this is the one I'm already SUPER invested in. I started it at the end of April and I'm 100 pages in. All of the people who said this book made them angry were so right. This was sold to me as a standalone dark academia novel featuring a woman trying to survive the magic school as the first woman admitted to the High Magistry. She has the janitor forced upon her as her assistant as a cruel joke by others in the High Magistry. And we follow them as they try to make it in this magical school. The absolute rage I've felt in the first 100 pages is astounding. I can't wait to dive deeper into it.

Faking It with Number 41 by Piper Rayne (Kindle)-- This is the next book I'm picking up in the Hockey Hotties series. In this one we follow Ford who is the heir to Jacobs Enterprises, but with a career in the NHL, he doesn't want to fall into the family business. His father agrees...with one condition. He fakes a relationship with the family's PR rep. But do things stay pretend? Or does Ford find himself in an even bigger pickle than he was in before? I liked Ford in the other book I read in this series so I'm excited to read his story.

Pacific Rim by Alexander C. Irvine (Kindle)-- Did I really buy a novelization of a movie I watched last month? Am I really about to read it...despite having watched the movie two times now? Yes and Yes. Hey. Hi. Hello. Have you met me? The Resident Hyperfixation Expert is here to continue the hyperfixation. Pacific Rim follows a former Jaeger pilot and an untested trainee as they attempt to push back a giant Kaiju and keep the world from the edge of defeat in their war against the Kaiju.

Icon and Inferno by Marie Lu (NetGalley)-- This is the second book in the series which follows a spy and a pop star as they team together to take down a very bad man. I reread book one recently and remembered how much I love Winter and Sydney. In the first one, we saw Winter brought into the agency and trained up as he joined Sydney on a mission to bring a rich, and bad, man to justice. I was so worried reading book one the first time that this would be a one and done situation with their partnership, but in book two we've got the gang back together and I'm so excited. This time things get a little more personal for Sydney which I think will really up the stakes (and possibly the romance).

The Calculation of You and Me by Serena Kaylor (NetGalley)-- The GoodReads pitch is as follows: "A calculus nerd enlists her surly classmate's help to win back her ex-boyfriend, but when sparks start to fly, she realizes there's no algorithm for falling in love." I'm excited to meet this moody musician and this math nerd and see how they inevitably fall in love. I've read from this author before so I'm excited to dive on in to a new one.

The Stars Too Fondly by Emily Hamilton (NetGalley)-- When I heard Kayla from BooksandLala talk about this one, I had to request it. This is going to be a genre mash-up that could be everything for me: Sci-Fi/Romance. It's pitched as "part space odyssey, part sapphic rom-com." Four twenty-somethings accidentally steal a spaceship and as the ship travels deeper into space, the laws of physics start twisting and old mysteries come crawling back to life. I'm going to try to go into this one without knowing too much, but I was so excited to get an ARC for this one.

I do want to clarify that reading all of these is my goal for the month of May. But I started a class in April and if I need to then I will start pulling things off of my TBR in order to keep up with my coursework. I'm hoping that having a couple of short and easy reads for the month will make it easier to hit my daily page goals.

What’s the best thing about the show/series/books/comics/etc.?

Ultrakill is a video game, so there's two angles to take this-- what is it like to play and what is the best part of the narrative it is telling? But I'll go by narrative since one great thing about Ultrakill is that a lot of people like it despite not even playing it yet ! ( and it is a hard game so fair-- )

To me, if I had to choose just one thing and I can't just say gabriel is hot the single greatest thing about Ultrakill is the existentialism of the story. I don't know, it just hit me personally in just the right spot where it isn't too saccharine but it just barely dodges being too grimdark and miserable. Its really a great story and setting for taking humanity at its lowest and making you see the absurdity of it all and kind of find a humor about it all? It reminds me a lot of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, this movie from the 60s that ends with a man waving a cowboy hat as he falls riding on an atomic bomb before the entire cast dies in a nuclear explosion. But it also takes itself just seriously enough when it matters that the sadness of the setting still resonates with you. With Gabriel, of course, being the heart of the overarching story.

Like I love that Hell is truly HELL and they don't sugarcoat it, they depict it literally to Dante's Inferno in a way most modern things usually wouldn't, but it never becomes so excessive that it loses its charm. Sometimes Hell takes on these weird and unpredictable forms, sometimes its oddly beautiful as much as it is painful, tying into the themes of finding beauty in the meaninglessness of your own nature-- and the framing of humanity as capable of inventing greater horrors than even Hell could, symbolizing the almost outdatedness of even the concepts of Heaven and Hell in the face of this end-game humanity that has gone off the deep end in a way that not even God knew what to do with us? REALLY the best thing about Ultrakill is the sheer eternity you could spend philosophizing and connecting its themes. If you are willing to stop and pay attention to what is going on in the game between the pew pew shooty times it is truly fascinating! And that's really the best part to me! }}
