My bro and I started rewatching Ultimate Spider-Man and holy shit, this adaptation has the same energy as Miraculous Ladybug. Like, Miraculous has a lot of Spider-Man influences, but this version of the latter franchise is just uncannily similar. Spider-Man gets put in charge of a bunch of S.H.I.E.L.D. baby heroes who have no idea how to function like normal human beings, and it reminds me of what I've seen of Marinette and the kwami in season four. Also, nervous energy main character energy is on point. And it doesn’t stop there.
Norman Osborn has such Gabriel Agreste energy, neglecting his son in favor of trying to get the hero's powers and constantly sliding further into villainy. The hero also starts off thinking of them in a positive light until they see their true colors. The school bully is at first glance stereotypically blonde and dumb, but secretly hides family troubles. One of our hero's best friends is a promising young wannabe reporter, who makes her debut by unknowingly reporting on her best friend. The precious person our hero always wants to spend time with while being constantly foiled is the son of the first main villain (and also starts with a black costume but later gets a white one and it's very emotional and involves an identity reveal).
Also, both shows include the inherent wholesomeness of a guy just coming out and saying they love their best friend. Although, in Miraculous it happened in an arguably-canon special, while Ultimate Spider-Man just opens on that with the first episode having Peter introduce Harry to the audience with: "I love Harry."
Ultimate Spider-Man also has a lot of Batman and the Brave and the Bold vibes by having Spider-Man team up with other Marvel characters every other episode, so it’s still a different show in other aspects. I still recommend it, since I do think Miraculous fans can find a lot in it to appreciate.
