The political divide of Partition causes tensions in the grooms family, including his brother, who has sold them out and is responsible for the murder of several people. The groom decides to hold his brother off and tells Yaz's Nani and her family to escape, while he stays behind and is killed. The Doctor and her family take off in the TARDIS, as interfering would wipe Yaz from existence.

139: The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky - Season 4, Episodes 4 & 5: Martha calls the Doctor to return to Earth where she is working with UNIT to investigate alien involvement in the development of GPS units that have caused several deaths. The Sontarans have used the GPS's to convert cars around the globe into emitters that will alter Earth's atmosphere to adapt it into a Sontaran clone bay. The Doctor destroys the gas to save the Earth and the Sontaran ship is destroyed.

Monday came in a flash. With everything happening, I nearly forgot why I got here in the first place, but the early morning class in my schedule was a harsh reminder. Since none of my roommates were as lucky as me, I quietly got ready, breakfasted alone, and left the apartment with a lingering feeling of jealousy.

The road to the campus was only a twenty-minute walk, according to the GPS, so I opted to go by foot instead of waiting for a bus. Despite the early hour, the sun was already warming my skin enough for me to take the sunglasses out of my tote bag. Putting them on, I smiled to myself, feeling good in my first day outfit—an oversized milky sweatshirt, a dark-brown miniskirt, and a pair of loafers in a matching color—academia enough, but not too formal.

As a tall, Gothic-style tower with a spire came into my view, it wasn’t long before I stepped foot onto a green, extensive lawn, intersected by an organized layout of concrete paths. Besides the main building, there were two other structures. The one on the left had the very same spire I saw from afar, while the right one had a circular shape with a glass dome.

But the keystone of the campus was definitely a circular rotunda with two long wings. Made from limestone and brick, it had multiple columns and pointed arches with ornate carvings and reliefs adorning its walls. The only thing capable of stealing attention from the centerpiece was a large reflecting pool in front of it.

Before, I had only seen the pictures, but the University of Trost was much more impressive in person, especially at that time of the year, when the stone walls were drowned in greenery.

Walking through a grand hall, I mumbled under my nose, “Classroom 139… 139… Is it the right way?” Due to the early hour, my navigation was significantly complicated as I had not encountered anyone to ask for directions.

Finally getting to the room, I found myself the first one to arrive. I took a seat in the second row, at the table nearest to the window, so I could space out, observing the outside. Scrolling on my phone, I would lift my gaze every time someone walked in, but none of the faces looked familiar. Until one did.

With a backpack on his shoulder and his hands in the front pocket of his dark-gray hoodie, Eren carelessly walked to place himself at the table in the second row, one away from mine. I only noticed his sullen expression for a second, for I quickly averted my gaze from his figure. Or was it his tired face? Anyway, the only thing bothering me was the fact that, out of all people, he had to be in this class.

As time came closer to the start of the seminar, more and more people flooded the classroom. Soon, all the tables were taken except for the seat next to me and the one next to Eren. Just as I thought nobody else would come, a red-haired guy entered, making his way towards a table in the second row. Luckily, not mine.

Noticing the guy, Eren got up, and it looked like he was about to turn away before the former called him out. As they greeted each other, I heard the guy asking whether he could take the empty seat, and Eren gave the nod, mumbling something else. Only he didn’t sit back at his table, but instead came to plop right next to me.

“It’s taken,” I said without looking at him.

“By who?” He snapped his head in my direction.

“Not by you.”

“I’d say otherwise.”

Not finding the right words, I huffed and looked even further away from him. It was true; my only acquaintances were his own friends. Clearly my disadvantage.

It all went quiet when the door shut with a loud, echoing sound. A short, black-haired man, presumably in his thirties, walked into the classroom. Standing behind the lectern, he looked around the room with his piercing eyes, and I instantaneously realized it was better to pay attention, or else I would be screwed.

First phase of Taiwan's F-16V program is completed

The $4.5 billion "Peace Phoenix Rising" program to upgrade 139 Taiwanese F-16 fighters to the F-16V configuration (Block 70-72) is completed, the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) announced on February 5. The next step in strengthening Taiwan's air defenses is to deliver 66 newly built F-16 jets in a comparable configuration, scheduled for the next two to three years.

The upgrade gives Taiwan's F-16s a capacity equivalent to or greater than most U.S. Air Force F-16s. The program is intended to help dissuade the People's Republic of China from a military attack on Taiwan.

The last jet updated for the "Viper" was delivered in December, after the final checks, AFLCMC said. The Taiwan Air Force, officially known as the Republic of China Air Force (RoCAF), ordered its first operational wing of F-16Vs in November 2021.

"This massive upgrade," as the AFLCMC described, provided the Taiwanese F-16s with the AESA AN/APG-83 radar built by Northrop Grumman, the Sniper sighting pod, Link 16, a helmet-mounted signaling system, accurate GPS Navigation, advanced weapon capability, an upgraded modular mission computer, a high-speed data Ethernet network, a new cabin pedestal central display and reinforced landing gear.

“Additional modifications to the aircraft include a series of structural upgrades to the wings, fuselage and landing gear that make the aircraft more capable and sustainable. It also allows for a heavier takeoff, as well as a higher landing weight,” said Nathan Frock, interim manager of the AFLCMC safety assistance program for the Taiwan F-16 modernization program.

The update program began in 2016 and the first completed aircraft was delivered at the end of 2018. The "Peace Phoenix Rising" is the largest FMS program to modernize the F-16 since the F-16 was introduced to the U.S. Air Force in 1979, the AFLCMC said. Taiwan bought 150 F-16A/B fighters in 1992; most of them were updated under Peace Phoenix. The upgrade was originally supposed to cover 144 aircraft, but there have been wear and tear losses since the original order.

Taiwan requested the upgrade of Block 70 and the sale of the new jet after being rejected in the purchase of F-35.

The completion of the program follows a letter from 24 U.S. lawmakers to Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall in November 2023, asking USAF to expedite the completion of the program and move quickly with the subsequent purchase of $8 billion of 66 new F-16Vs approved by Congress in 2019. They observed that the updates were delayed and the newly built fighters were postponed for at least two and maybe three years.

"We still consider these cases of FMS to be high-risk," the legislators said. Members said that the two cases of the FMS - the update and sales of the new F-16 - were "impacted from its inception by optimistic assumptions about how quickly new technologies and modifications could be integrated" into the F-16 project.

“Taiwan urgently needs these new and updated aircraft, and a stronger and more resilient Taiwan will improve stability across the Taiwan Strait,” they said.

U.S. Air Force procurement executive Andrew Hunter responded that USAF is exploring “all options to prioritize and expedite” the transfer of new F-16V to Taipei.

Although the first two new jets were expected to be delivered at the end of 2023, this did not happen; the delay was attributed by USAF and Lockheed Martin to "complex development challenges" in the development of new software for hunting. Industry sources now say that Taiwan should receive its first F-16 Block 70 in the third quarter of 2024.

In their letter to Kendall, lawmakers asked USAF not to make "equally optimistic assumptions when demonstrating in the future. We can't afford to promise too much and deliver little to our closest friends."

President Joe Biden's administration pledged to accelerate the foreign military sales process and, last week, reported that 2023 was a record year for FMS agreements, totaling $80.9 billion, an increase of 55% from fiscal year 2022.

Unlike the previous F-16s, which had a lifespan of about 8,000 hours, the newly built F-16Vs will have a service life of 12,000 hours.

The Taiwan Aerospace Industry Development Center (AIDC) was a subcontractor of Lockheed in Taiwan. Together, the two companies designed and built the F-CK-1 Ching Kuo, or IDF (Indigenous Defense Fighter), developed in Taiwan, 130 of which were delivered in the 1990s. The jets are considered to have capacity between the Northrop F-5E, which Taiwan also flies, and the F-16. The Taiwan Air Force also includes 2000 Dassault Mirage jets, some of which may have their service life extended due to delays in the delivery of the F-16V.

The AFLCMC said it is now working on a second phase of the upgrade project - "Peace Phoenix Rising Modernization II" - which will add capacity to the AGM-88 (HARM) high-speed anti-radiation missile, an automatic ground collision prevention system, the MS-110 multispectral recognition pods and the AGM-154 Joint Stand-Off Weapon (JSOW).

"We know that this work has not been completed, as we continue to accelerate the capacity upgrades of the existing F-16 fleet of the Taiwan Air Force, but it is definitely worth highlighting the successful achievement of this important milestone," said Colonel Eddie Wagner, Senior Materials Leader of the AFLCMC F-16 FMS programs.

Taiwan was also approved for infrared search and tracking (IRST) systems worth $500 million for the F-16s last August. Legion IRST systems are considered essential to help fourth-generation fighters, such as F-16 aircraft sight jets with low radar cross-section, such as China's J-20.

“I am extremely proud of how all stakeholders involved with this critical modification [Peace Phoenix Rising] were able to overcome so many obstacles, including the COVID-19 pandemic, to deliver all 139 modernized aircraft by the end of 2023,” Wagner said. "We know that the work is not completed while we continue to accelerate the capacity upgrades of the existing F-16 fleet of the Taiwan Air Force, but it is definitely worth highlighting the successful achievement of this important milestone."

Lockheed has at least six customers for the Lockheed F-16V/Block 70 and delivered the first two to Slovakia in January. Company officials say they intend to produce up to 36 F-16 fighters per year by the end of 2024 and 48 per year by the end of 2025 at the Lockheed factory in Greenville, South Carolina, where the production of the F-16 was transferred from Fort Worth, Texas, several years ago. However, at these rates, it will be a challenge to deliver all new F-16V from Taiwan by 2026.

O.J. Sanchez, vice president of the integrated hunting group and general manager of Lockheed, said the company sees substantial opportunities to upgrade the F-16, with more than 3,000 F-16 jets flying around the world. Greece, for example, has accepted more than 10 F-16 fighters updated for configuration V of the 84 that are expected to be delivered by 2027.

out of all the cc's, technoblade was consistently someone who tried to include as many people in his lore as possible. i will never forget how niki talked about feeling left out and techno carving out a place for her character in his lore, making sure she was heard on his birthday stream. or how he immediately made conner part of the syndicate or letting eret take the lead on so much of the revengers' stream.

techno had so much passion for storytelling and so much love for the other members, he truly was one of the best.

If a group of people can loudly talk in front of the camera about how Max deserved a lesson (ie. being put into a wall with 50 g force by their driver) so that he wouldn't race as hard next time... I swear, if I was an f1 driver I'd be cancelled from day 1. First of all I don't like any of these driver guys except for racing so getting along with them couldn't be an option. I would be vocal in a different way, express my unpopular and non populist opinions when I'm asked on so many things or I'd be silent about some other things unlike many drivers. I would disagree in many topics and wouldn't force myself to look better. I'd probably fight with so many drivers and other f1 related people. Even with Seb. Not to mention making many contreversial statements. I would probably be the most hated bitch among these mfs. My team would kick me out or my pr would push me down from a high building. FIA would ban me lol. There are so many things that annoy me in this world.

118: Love & Monsters - Season 2, Episode 8: A young man named Elton joins a club for people seeking the Doctor, but they don't take it too seriously until a new member, Mr. Kennedy, joins and is very forceful in seeking the Doctor, even as the members of the group start to disappear. While trying to track down information on Rose, he meets her mother Jackie and befriends her. After Jackie discovers that he only befriended her to find Rose and the Doctor she kicks her out. Elton and another member, Ursula, figure out that Mr. Kennedy is actually an alien, and has been absorbing the members of their group. He wants to track down the Doctor to absorb him as well. He absorbs Ursula, but Elton breaks the device that helps him limit his absorption and he gets absorbed by the Earth.

It's that time of the year again! And no I don't mean Halloween I mean Bird of the Year time! That time of the year when New Zealanders come together to duke it out for the role of Best Bird (te manu rongonui o te tau) and also experience voter fraud and controversy

(last year there was no voter fraud but there WAS controversy that a species of bat was a) allowed to compete and b) won. I eagerly await this year's controversy, it's sure to be good.)

This year I am supporting the tawaki/fiordland crested penguin, because Those Eyebrows. I'm pretty sure you don't have to be in NZ to vote, please join me in supporting him! (ideally in a non-fraudulent manner, but you do you)

I absolutely loved Terry Pratchett's Bromeliad trilogy as a kid and it turns out it has infected me with brain worms, still can't see a roadworks sign without thinking "Road Works Ahead? Sure hope it does!" or see a shop sign without thinking about the dreaded Prices Slashed stalking the corridors

There’s a GP in NZ who does these amazing embroideries representing medical conditions (also lots of uterus-related embroideries which are amazing) and please look at my favourites!

(images: the first image is an embroidery of a hand skeleton with thistles growing out of it. The second image is also embroidered showing part of a pelvis and upper femur with the interior of the femur replaced by honeycomb.)

These are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis - rheumatoid arthritis is a very painful autoimmune arthritis which usually affects hand joints (as well as other joints in some people); osteoporosis is bone thinning/weakening.

I bought two of her uterus prints (menorrhagia/shark week and menstruation) for my clinic room and please check them out here!

One of the things I really like about Terry Pratchett is the way he talks about death? Like when I was a kid it was just a joke how Death is in every book (or close to? I’m not sure) but then I became a doctor in my mid-twenties, and was utterly caught by how close to death I walked in my day to day, and how much it was not something I could share with anyone I knew (underneath about age 70). But Terry got it. And that was when I found I pulled out the witches books - and especially Tiffany Aching, and A Hat Full of Sky - and read and reread those passages because somehow he understood what it was like to be the person standing next to the door and holding it open for someone else to pass through

Today we get a brand new public holiday in NZ which is firstly fun because mostly all our holidays are in summer, but also because it's the first holiday that celebrates specifically Māori knowledge - different regions have different stories but in many regions this is the start of the new year

This is a fantastic article about matauranga Māori/indigenous knowledge from the astronomer who has done the most for bringing it back

"From a Māori point of view, there’s no use understanding something in science unless you go on to understand how it’s connected to everything else. A piece of knowledge can be taken out and explored on its own, but, for us, it only has real purpose and meaning when it’s all stitched together in one fabric."
