insane to me that when will was almost all of the way gone, jonathan and joyce both tried to get him back by gently alluding in some way to will's sexuality and how much they love him and are proud of him and want to protect him and make a place in this world for him because they really do genuinely and wholeheartedly believe that he's perfect just the way he is and worthy of love and not at all a mistake or a burden and that there is room and love in this world for him....

joyce telling him that she was proud of him and his rainbow ship and how she showed it off to everyone, and jonathan talking about how they immediately built castle byers after lonnie left.... how if this is the last time they ever get to talk to will then they want him to know that he was seen and loved in every which way no matter what... how joyce has always loved her sweet boy and jonathan has only ever wanted to keep his little brother safe.... they needed their will to know that :( that he could come back.... :( that he would be loved and it would be okay.... :( that there is love here for him to come back to... to fight for.... :(
