I think this was a good race today. Knock-out is weird in many ways, and it's always interesting when the ones you are the happiest for are the ones that made second place.

Like, Norway isn't good at sprint. They're incredible in the forest, but city orienteering is not their branch. And their male runner came in second. They were over the moon about this, and for good reason.

And like. The winner in the women's race was crying tears of joy, not for her own gold, but for her friend's silver. It was also apparently her first ever individual world championship medal, although not her first medal in an international setting. this is so random and very late to the discussion from the other day: if youre a lurker/someone who wants to get Into Dtblr but you dont know where to start, speaking from experience (aka someone who lurked april 2021 -> june 2022) the Number One best way to Break In (imo) is through tags.

posting art or writing fics are also great ways, but not all of us are built like that 😭😭 and massive MASSIVE kudos to those who are (I definitely am NOT). writers and artists keep fandoms alive, so if you want to start, start now!

howeverr tags are so fucking essential and often extremely underrated! they give life to your reblogs!! they give your followers insight into your personality, interests, humour, etc. otherwise your URL will just be another undifferentiated note in a post* plus!!! not only do tags show up in the OP’s activity, anyone can poke around a post’s notes and read the tags. I definitely look at them, dtblr is funny af! sometimes if i see a funny or poignant tag in someone else’s notes, ill check out their blog and give them a follow!

not to mention some of the funniest, most poetic and wholesome posts on dtblr have been anon asks or submissions. so i know you guys have it in you!!!! if youre thinking about it, just do it. it might feel super weird to start posting or rbing out of the blue .. but all you really need is a pinned post (state your interests, the CCs you like, etc) and then its go time!

*im not saying you dont have a personality if you dont write in the tags 😭 but its objectively harder to get to know someone’s style of blogging without knowing What They Think, especially if theyre just starting out

If you want to share; do you have any horror movie reccs? I kinda like the less indie ones haha, but anything is nice!! I really enjoyed Talk to Me and Black Phone from some of the recent-ish ones. Looking forward to watching Longlegs!

oh man do i !! ill share some of my favs and this got really long so under the cut lol

i love scifi horror, and prometheus/alien covenant is such a big pick for me, david8 one of my fav horror antagonists ever. Also in the scifi horror genre, i ADORE event horizon, its basically demonic haunted house in space with the best cast ever and you should watch it.

I love Robert Eggers generally (the lighthouse is probably my favorite movie of all time tho i dont really consider it horror) but the witch is definitely horror and if you like historical/period pieces its an absolute must watch.

If we want some more serious veined and disturbing horrors imo- lets go with Dogtooth and The Killing of a Sacred Deer by Lanthimos. Theyre slower and heavy and too bright and too horrible. their strangeness just picks at you, movies that really feel like someone grabbing your face and forcing you to look. in a similar world, i like funny games, both the original and the remake, as well as suspiria, the original and the remake. It's become rather trendy lately, i keep seeing gifs of it around lol, but Possession is also fantastic, another great performance from sam neill.

I love 80s horror, The Thing is probably one of the best horror movies ever made, just a masterclass of tension and effects work. I love the movie CHRISTINE which is about a murderous possessed car. the shining is a fucking classic and still one of the most unsettling movies for me to watch. i also love children of the corn, the strange folk horror of it is really just kind of crazy cool and underrated imo..

back to recent, its very hyped but It Follows definitely lives up to that hype. one of the best film scores in recent memory, insane performances and sense of dread. if you dont mind extreme heavy violence, green room is a fantastic watch. get out is a modern horror classic and another must watch, and i see it talked about less, but i love peele's US even more and find it so so terrifying, lupita nyongos performance in it is beyond haunting.

im a huge huge sucker for a monster movie, i adore monsters, i've already mentioned the thing and alien series which are great examples but here, take some more! i loved crawl, alligator themed florida horror. Underwater, if you like a big monster. del Toro's mimic is crazy and creepy. Annihilation isn't what id call a horror movie, but its quite horrifying, and definitely has some of my favorite movie monsters... same with When Animals Dream its more a coming of an age than a True Horror but its my favorite werewolf movie ive ever watched so i would be remiss to not mention it

i also LOVE found footage, a subgenre only really pursued by horror film, and theres a lot of bad ones but a few good ones lol. The Bay is one i'll always recommend, it uses so many mediums so well to weave this very real and awful tale of ecohorror. the OG, the blair witch project. Hell House LLC is the perfect halloween movie to get freaked out on before you and your friends go to a haunted house...

i could go on and on but this is already a lot lol....but theres so many great horror movies out there!! you need only to watch them 🫶 hope you enjoy if you do check any of these out!!

@battle-subway-ghost - is also a really fun blog that im always like GUYS LOOK AT WHATS HAPPENING OVER THERE!!! honestly i could probably link ALL the blogs linked to this one and thatfailedpokemontrainer but i dont wanna decimate a buncha peoples notifs with me @ ing them all on the same post lmao. but like. something up with paris fr and his relationships with other characters are so fun to read. also i love rattatas so any blog about characters that give love to the rats get a good grade in my book

@wingsofachampion - tropius is such a fun character and bench plays her so well!! pokemon like tropius are sososo underrated compared to a lot of the like. anthro/more humanoid pokemon and pokemon that are just cats or dogs so seeing one about one of these more underrated pokemon so good to me. bench (blogrunner) also has a ton of fun pmd lore that builds off the canon stuff on this blog and a few of their other blogs so if you love pmdstuff you should REALLY check them out

@psn-stalling - i could list A LOT of the bbablr blogs because theyre all some degree of something up with that guy fr but atlas is one of the first blogs that popped up on my dash p often and is what got me to check out a ton of the bba blogs. atlas and his relationships to other characters are so fun to me and tbh atlas is just a fascinating character in general. top ten guys of all time i hope he beefs with even more of his classmates in the future

hatchet town is amazing too, i mean, dan renolds, the paranoia, the panic that comes with knowing ppl are getting killed in your town, not trusting anyone, the constant finger pointing, just- UGHHHH i loved it <3

can we just mention the camera and the lighting for a sec? bc it was amazing.

lil mention: I watched this show on the crumbrulee following turkey day (which may require a bottle of pepper spray) so there's that too.

jadekat & why i love it

jadekats this really interesting homestuck pairing to me! i feel like its because both jade & karkat are cool characters on their own, but their great strengths come with great flaws, and their dynamic balances out these flaws so well. it's a strangely underrated pairing too, considering jade is probably the character karkat most obviously flushes for in the comic, next to terezi. ill be explaining why i think this bond is so overlooked.

jade has a variety of strengths. as a witch of space, it makes sense. space is on a more grand level of intuition and clear knowledge on a vast amount of things, leading to space players sometimes not being able to explain the way things are in detail. this vastness also comes with a "wait-and-see" approach, as space is always growing organically, like an organism/plant. as a witch, jade followed through completing time loops with eagerness and a loss of wanting to know exactly why these loops must be fulfilled, simply believing things like fate knew what they were doing, and everything would come into order. shes also very well-versed in science, rifles, childhood cartoons, plants... she does everything she possibly can with the space around her, manipulating it (therefore "manipulating space") to her own will!

on a more characteristic standpoint, jade is socially isolated. shes nice to everyone she comes across (until theyre mean) but she has isolation problems. living on an island alone has made her used to having things done in her own methodical and scientific way, simply because thats the way she believes in. shes at a loss when it comes to chaotic, unorderly things like karkat's memos with his future/past selves! she just doesnt know how to handle it because she's only known how to be in tune with her own thoughts & feelings.

karkat is well-versed in the way relationships are supposed to go. he's watched an abundance of rom-coms and dealed with all his friends as a leader. it makes sense why he's so good at knowing how others feel and how to care for them. the problem is that he doesn't know how to outwardly express his own feelings or care at all. he doesn't know how to approach terezi without fighting with her, but still constantly pesters these people he likes with his angry, nonsensical ways.

when jade and karkat interact in the comic, it's confusing at first. karkat is constantly pestering jade at random intervals of time, and this ruins her ordered way of working around stuff. she develops these "conversation passwords", an intuitive way of staying on the same time track with the trolls. karkat is obviously angered by jade's action, but after realizing jade won't budge about it he goes along with it. in openbound, it's even revealed he used one of these conversation keys as a password for his own memories in a dream bubble!

in the memos with karkat's multiple selves, jade learns not everything can always be so orderly and clear, and this is very hard for her to stomach. she wants to quit dealing with it, but karkat's stubborness makes her deal with these messy, personal feelings.

in summary, jadekat's this great, balanced dynamic. jade teaches karkat to be more open and true to himself and his own feelings, while also getting him out of trouble with ridiculous things like future selves and all-over-the-time-loop conversations with clear solutions to get him back into the big picture. karkat teaches jade to consider the smaller details and how the more orderly paths can't constantly be taken to solve something.

this is all i have right now, i hope it makes sense!! i tried not to connect this to a lot of classpecting cuz i feel like jadekat's mainly about focusing on the very feelings of the characters (whether clear or messy) instead of just connecting them to a grander thing. lmk if u have any thoughts on jadekat or just jade/karkat in general ^_^!!

omg ur about to regret asking. i love koobi so much wtf i have a bunch of word vomit bc im very bad at articulating my thoughts

okok first of all jungkook and hobi are both biases individually so whenever they’re in the same frame all my neurons set on fire. anyways ik jungkook has the golden maknae title (deserved) but i feel like its not widely recognized As Much the way hobi is also a golden ace like they’re both sooooo good at everything. and thats jungkooks Thing™️ but like. hoseok is SO fucking good at dancing and so good at rapping and so good at songwriting/producing and ALSO so good at singing and he (also jin) is such a morale booster and icebreaker and i feel like he warms up every room hes in. but also he takes his craft so seriously and his dance teacher side is so intense and respectable. and like ofc they’re all insanely talented and passionate but i feel like jungkook and hobi are kinda two sides of the same coin and idk im ENDEARED………and also their solo music i just . love nearly everything they put out like theyre batting 99.9% for me. (and their harmonizing drives me crazy) also i feel like i have weirdly a lot in common with jungkook and i wanna be him soooo bad while hobi is everything i am not but adore in other people 😭

BUT ANYWAYS the koobi of it all…………..i feel like out of all the dynamics in bts i understand why they’re underrated cuz like. for example namgi or vmin u could write fucking essays abt those pairs and the depth of their relationships. but for koobi i feel like its a lot quieter like idk if theres as much to Say abt their relationship but their closeness shows if ur paying attention yk. idk theres just this softness and warmth between them that rlly gets to me like everyone babies jk but i feel like hobi babies him in a really particular way where im like. wtf thats HIS BABY. but also his baby is gonna kill all the bugs for him. like idk the sheer number of clips where jungkook is hanging off hobi and cuddling him (and sniffing him 😭) is so touching to meeeee………like it just. gives the impression that hobi is such a safe space for him and it makes me wanna cry and throw up. and also how hobi said the maknae line follows him around. like little ducklings. like what the fuck they love and admire him so much and i love seeing hobi be adored like he DESERVESSSS

also 1) in bv4 when hobi is filming jungkook on the swing. 2) in soop1 when jungkook is playing lost stars on the guitar for hobi. 3) jungkook crying when hobi was going to leave. 4) jungkook scheduling around being able to send hobi off. cries so hard i start gagging like wtf. idk i just feel like theres so much love and admiration between them. and obv i dont Actually know but their dynamic just seems uncomplicated and safe like every time theyre around each other it just radiates WARMTH u know. idk. walking into the pacific ocean rn

Cold, Cold, Cold by the Family Crest is OBVIOUSLY about milo. its the degree of separation between them, how rose wish he could have been there for her, even if it meant he was risking his own life too. just for the chance of knowing what happened to her in elturel. even if that means confirming that she died. its not the grief of losing her that hurts the most, its not knowing whether or not she got out.

TCOIIF by junie & thehutfriends (underrated band) kind of follows on from coldx3. rose, despite his best pretences, is deeply fearful of losing the people he loves. to the point of obsession and paranoia. when gale and rose first move to waterdeep, they have to work on rose not having full scale panic attacks (that he stubbornly refuses to admit are panic attacks) whenever he wakes up and gale's not besides him in bed, or when he's late home from work, or simply wanders off to look at smth at the market. rose knows hes irrational, but unfortunately, as a naturally imaginative person, the consequence is fear.

next to me by emili sandé was actually a really tough pick. i wanted smth about rose being seen as desirable without making it too... aggressive? or... idk... i was thinking unholy by sam smith for example, but whilst the vibe was right, the actual lyrical content was too....... much? rose has sex with his friends. he does it as bonding. always has done. if theyre comfortable with it and want to, hes all for it. but its incredibly platonic for him. so i didnt want anything that was more than that, but could still fit for how gale sees him too. obviously with the exception of the drow twins and halsin, rose stops sleeping with his friends (rose is monogamous when hes in a relationship, its all very confusing, i know), and so whilst next to me i think was written in a romance context, i think it totally applies to how dependable and supportive rose is. he's a bit of a ride or die.

let me follow by son lux is about galllllle, obviously. will gale blow himself up? will gale ascend to godhood? he hopes not. and so he pleads, don't go anywhere that i cant follow.

STARTAFIGHT by joey valence & brae is smth kinda punchy (ha) and fun whilst also having that quick baseline i wanted. its posturing, rose cant fight to save his life. he and his 8 strength noodle arms stays firmly at the back of the line and dazzles the enemies for long enough for someone actually capable to beat the shit out of them. this is totally a song rose would PLAY for everyone else fighting tho!

cloudbusting by kate bush -- something light, something hopeful, something a bit dreamy. i imagine it like, rose steps out onto the docks of baldurs gate, a small crate in his arms as he looks over the seemingly endless sea, the waves turning gold from the sun above. seagulls caw as they fly overhead as gale, just on the boat, and looking healthier than he ever has in plain, linen clothing, offers to take rose's crate, who hands it off to him. he boards the boat as the song kicks in and then as they undock and sail away the credits roll, the boat becoming smaller and smaller on the horizon as they leave for waterdeep.
