howeverr tags are so fucking essential and often extremely underrated! they give life to your reblogs!! they give your followers insight into your personality, interests, humour, etc. otherwise your URL will just be another undifferentiated note in a post* plus!!! not only do tags show up in the OP’s activity, anyone can poke around a post’s notes and read the tags. I definitely look at them, dtblr is funny af! sometimes if i see a funny or poignant tag in someone else’s notes, ill check out their blog and give them a follow!

jadekats this really interesting homestuck pairing to me! i feel like its because both jade & karkat are cool characters on their own, but their great strengths come with great flaws, and their dynamic balances out these flaws so well. it's a strangely underrated pairing too, considering jade is probably the character karkat most obviously flushes for in the comic, next to terezi. ill be explaining why i think this bond is so overlooked.

jade has a variety of strengths. as a witch of space, it makes sense. space is on a more grand level of intuition and clear knowledge on a vast amount of things, leading to space players sometimes not being able to explain the way things are in detail. this vastness also comes with a "wait-and-see" approach, as space is always growing organically, like an organism/plant. as a witch, jade followed through completing time loops with eagerness and a loss of wanting to know exactly why these loops must be fulfilled, simply believing things like fate knew what they were doing, and everything would come into order. shes also very well-versed in science, rifles, childhood cartoons, plants... she does everything she possibly can with the space around her, manipulating it (therefore "manipulating space") to her own will!

on a more characteristic standpoint, jade is socially isolated. shes nice to everyone she comes across (until theyre mean) but she has isolation problems. living on an island alone has made her used to having things done in her own methodical and scientific way, simply because thats the way she believes in. shes at a loss when it comes to chaotic, unorderly things like karkat's memos with his future/past selves! she just doesnt know how to handle it because she's only known how to be in tune with her own thoughts & feelings.

karkat is well-versed in the way relationships are supposed to go. he's watched an abundance of rom-coms and dealed with all his friends as a leader. it makes sense why he's so good at knowing how others feel and how to care for them. the problem is that he doesn't know how to outwardly express his own feelings or care at all. he doesn't know how to approach terezi without fighting with her, but still constantly pesters these people he likes with his angry, nonsensical ways.

when jade and karkat interact in the comic, it's confusing at first. karkat is constantly pestering jade at random intervals of time, and this ruins her ordered way of working around stuff. she develops these "conversation passwords", an intuitive way of staying on the same time track with the trolls. karkat is obviously angered by jade's action, but after realizing jade won't budge about it he goes along with it. in openbound, it's even revealed he used one of these conversation keys as a password for his own memories in a dream bubble!

in the memos with karkat's multiple selves, jade learns not everything can always be so orderly and clear, and this is very hard for her to stomach. she wants to quit dealing with it, but karkat's stubborness makes her deal with these messy, personal feelings.

in summary, jadekat's this great, balanced dynamic. jade teaches karkat to be more open and true to himself and his own feelings, while also getting him out of trouble with ridiculous things like future selves and all-over-the-time-loop conversations with clear solutions to get him back into the big picture. karkat teaches jade to consider the smaller details and how the more orderly paths can't constantly be taken to solve something.

this is all i have right now, i hope it makes sense!! i tried not to connect this to a lot of classpecting cuz i feel like jadekat's mainly about focusing on the very feelings of the characters (whether clear or messy) instead of just connecting them to a grander thing. lmk if u have any thoughts on jadekat or just jade/karkat in general ^_^!!

Cold, Cold, Cold by the Family Crest is OBVIOUSLY about milo. its the degree of separation between them, how rose wish he could have been there for her, even if it meant he was risking his own life too. just for the chance of knowing what happened to her in elturel. even if that means confirming that she died. its not the grief of losing her that hurts the most, its not knowing whether or not she got out.

TCOIIF by junie & thehutfriends (underrated band) kind of follows on from coldx3. rose, despite his best pretences, is deeply fearful of losing the people he loves. to the point of obsession and paranoia. when gale and rose first move to waterdeep, they have to work on rose not having full scale panic attacks (that he stubbornly refuses to admit are panic attacks) whenever he wakes up and gale's not besides him in bed, or when he's late home from work, or simply wanders off to look at smth at the market. rose knows hes irrational, but unfortunately, as a naturally imaginative person, the consequence is fear.

next to me by emili sandé was actually a really tough pick. i wanted smth about rose being seen as desirable without making it too... aggressive? or... idk... i was thinking unholy by sam smith for example, but whilst the vibe was right, the actual lyrical content was too....... much? rose has sex with his friends. he does it as bonding. always has done. if theyre comfortable with it and want to, hes all for it. but its incredibly platonic for him. so i didnt want anything that was more than that, but could still fit for how gale sees him too. obviously with the exception of the drow twins and halsin, rose stops sleeping with his friends (rose is monogamous when hes in a relationship, its all very confusing, i know), and so whilst next to me i think was written in a romance context, i think it totally applies to how dependable and supportive rose is. he's a bit of a ride or die.

let me follow by son lux is about galllllle, obviously. will gale blow himself up? will gale ascend to godhood? he hopes not. and so he pleads, don't go anywhere that i cant follow.

STARTAFIGHT by joey valence & brae is smth kinda punchy (ha) and fun whilst also having that quick baseline i wanted. its posturing, rose cant fight to save his life. he and his 8 strength noodle arms stays firmly at the back of the line and dazzles the enemies for long enough for someone actually capable to beat the shit out of them. this is totally a song rose would PLAY for everyone else fighting tho!

cloudbusting by kate bush -- something light, something hopeful, something a bit dreamy. i imagine it like, rose steps out onto the docks of baldurs gate, a small crate in his arms as he looks over the seemingly endless sea, the waves turning gold from the sun above. seagulls caw as they fly overhead as gale, just on the boat, and looking healthier than he ever has in plain, linen clothing, offers to take rose's crate, who hands it off to him. he boards the boat as the song kicks in and then as they undock and sail away the credits roll, the boat becoming smaller and smaller on the horizon as they leave for waterdeep.

scott tenorman would do something simple, maybe a little bland, but still honest. he would probably ask you in a few direct words, i don’t really see him as the type to beat around the bush much

i think kenny would be pretty direct when asking you out, too! he would want something cheesier than scott though. something flashy that gets everyone talking, like giving you a bouquet in front of everyone in the cafeteria!! although if you’re a shy person, he respects that and would just ask you regularly to your face, maybe with a bouquet still ;)

scott malkinson would never dare to ask you directly!!!! i think he would only ask you out if he fully knew you liked him too. instead i think he would tell you how much you mean to him and how much he loves you, but he would leave it up to you to decide if he means romantically or platonically. you have ej, former 1oa pick who goes down with injury, comes back, gets hurt, comes back, always playing catch up, never the same. theres murmurs that surround him, that follow him like a raincloud wherever he goes, not yet raining but dark and grey and foreboding all the same.  when he finally gets back to form, he gets dished off to the avalanche and has to come to terms with the fact that hes never going to be The One, he’s never going to be what everyone thought he was, he’s probably going to be relegated to a third line d pair and his name will be lost to time the way so many players are. 

then you have gabe, who goes to a struggling avalanche team (you dont get to pick 2oa by being good, after all) , named the youngest captain in both franchise history and (at the time) nhl history. hes got the world on his shoulders and hes determined to prove his worth. 

you wuold think there would be , i dunno, something, some anger or jealousy or something between them when they first get together, right?  you have a shadow of a 1oa pick and a 2oa pick that has a whole life and future ahead of him , you expect there to be like a “welll, fuck you, i guess” sort of feel to these two. 

they basically fell in love instead. ej took one look at gabe and took him under his wing and the rest doesnt fukcing matter anymore.  and ej can be as weird a guy as he wants, he can be confusing with his words and his emotions and he can hide his feelings but he is always so vulnerable when its about gabe. he’ll talk about missing him, he’ll hug him and kiss him, he’ll say that he loves gabe, that’s fucking special okay . theyre such a perfect match for each other, theyre each others best friends, theyre one antohers other halves, theyre gonna be there until the end of time for each other .
