I have seen two twitter posts in a row appreciating Hypno Callie and it got me thinking about something...

It really got me thinking "damn... i wanna enjoy this arc like everyone else, but there's this dark stain that ruins it all."

On paper i should adore this arc, i should be fucking loving it and living in bliss and going "THIS IS SO DOPE! LOOK AT MY EVIL BABYGIRL YEAHH!!!!!!!!" There are aspects that i ACTUALLY LOVE! The fucking chaotic and unhinged personality, the raw anger and energy that comes from Callie who is not doing well and needs support in her mental health. The design, the Bomb Rush Blush remix being so fucking crazy and much faster paced with those sexy breakcore drums, Tidal Rush, the chorography including 8 patterns and the shades themselves LOOK COOL!!!

Like this should kick ass, but what Nintendo have said and what a large portion of the community have tried to push has made me feel icky and really uncomfortable to be honest. Not in an engaging "oh this is so deep and sad" way, but more so "this genuinely makes me feel uncomfortable and i don't wanna look at it" sort of way.

There's all these weird implications about like.... consent and agency and willingness.... and if you think about it for more than 5 seconds you would realize the kind of SERIOUS AND DISGUSTING things Nintendo is trying to say about what happened to Callie and the Octarians as a whole....

Which is why I've spent SO MUCH time on trying to piece together Hypno Callie so i can actually fucking enjoy the arc and not feel grossed out and disturbed.

It has kinda worked but at the same time, i still get those common takes about Callie and what Nintendo has said and it feels like i'm back at square one... Oh well... One day i will be able to FULLY enjoy Hypno Callie and not think about the fucking creepy shit Nintendo has suggested... fucking removing memories and all that other stuff.. ughh...
