Above and Beyond Chapter 1
Author Note: Giving some love to the other fandom I love. I'm posting the first chapter here; if you like, you can read the rest on ao3 😍
Danny Fenton's alarm clock blared, jolting him out of his dream. Danny rubbed his eyes and groaned, staring at the ceiling plastered with glow-in-the-dark stars and constellations. The room around him was a shrine to his passion for space: posters of astronauts and far-off galaxies adorned every wall, and stacks of NASA magazines sat dog-eared on his desk—a recent poster of the Ares III. Watching the launch on TV had been a fun time. His only regret was he was too busy to fly out and watch it in person.
"Five more minutes," he mumbled, reaching for the snooze button, but accidentally phased his hand through the clock instead. He sighed.
"Rise and shine, Danny boy!" his dad called from downstairs.
"Coming!" Danny yelled back, attempting to sound more cheerful than he felt. As he swung his legs out of bed, he couldn't help but glance at the newspaper article he had pinned to his corkboard: A detailed interview with the Ares III crew, all about the launch and their mission. One day, he dreamed of going to space, just like them.
Balancing high school and teenage life was already a challenge for Danny, but ever since he gained ghost powers from an accident in his parents' lab, his whole world had been turned upside down.
He could barely keep his eyes open in class. Not that math was ever intriguing.
It wasn't easy being a teenager with ghost powers, especially when there were organizations like the GIW who would do anything to get their hands on him. Things had gotten harder with the GIW; they had been cracking down on ghost activity and trying to capture his ghost half. It didn’t help that the GIW had labeled all ghosts as a threat that needed to be neutralized, and since they were labeled as dead, in the GIW's eyes and the government's eyes, they were doing nothing wrong. It was all fine since the dead could not be hurt.
Tucker had discovered that the GIW had also been blocking any social media posts and news from Amity regarding ghosts. So, to the outside world, they were just a backwater town with a fun tourist trap attraction. It didn’t help that Vlad was backing the GIW and encouraging them to censor Amity Park.
"Earth to Danny!" his sister Jazz teased as she poked her head into his room. "Seriously, what's with you lately?"
"Nothing," he lied, forcing a smile. "Just tired."
"Alright," she replied skeptically. "Just remember, I'm here if you need to talk."
"Thanks, Jazz." He appreciated her concern.
Danny reluctantly got ready for the day; he looked at his bed with longing. He barely got any sleep last night. Skulker was giving him problems most of the night.
With a sigh, Danny leaves for school. He hopes that Dash will take it easy on him. If he gets shoved into one more locker today, he might just snap.
******
Danny's eyes snapped open as a bright light flooded the small room. He squinted against the harsh glare, trying to determine where he was. The last thing he remembered was flying home from school when everything went black. Now he found himself strapped to a cold metal table, his arms and legs bound by thick leather anit-ghost straps.
Danny struggled against the glowing green restraints binding him to the cold metal table, but it was no use. The anti-ghost cuffs sapped his strength, leaving him weak and helpless.
"Subject is regaining consciousness," a voice droned from somewhere in the shadows.
Danny's heart pounded in his chest. The Guys in White had captured him. He struggled against the restraints, but he was still too groggy from whatever drug they had used to knock him out.
A man in a pristine white suit loomed over Danny, peering down at him through dark sunglasses. "Let's see what makes this ghost boy tick," he sneered.
Danny screamed in agony as the ecto-shocker sent searing pain through his body. The green electricity crackled over his skin, burning into his flesh. He could smell the sickly stench of his own ectoplasm as it bubbled from the wounds.
"Please, stop!" Danny begged, thrashing against the restraints that held him to the cold metal table. But the white-clad GIW agent standing over him just laughed cruelly and turned up the dial, increasing the voltage.
"Subject is displaying enhanced strength," one of the expressionless agents in white hazmat suits muttered into a recorder. "Increasing power output."
Pain erupted through Danny's body as the restraints glowed brighter, crackling with electricity. He cried out, thrashing against them.
"Please, stop!" Danny begged.
Danny's screams turned to whimpers as the agent finally powered down the ecto-shocker. His small body trembled uncontrollably, his jumpsuit charred and smoking.
He had no idea how long he had been imprisoned here. The agents kept him drugged and disoriented. Time blurred between sessions on the table as they poked, prodded, cut, and shocked him. They were obsessed with learning his secrets, tearing him apart molecule by molecule.
Just as the agent prepared to make another incision, a glowing green vortex suddenly erupted in the room. It swirled violently, like a miniature tornado, and its eerie light cast flickering shadows across the walls.
The agent stumbled back in surprise, the scalpel falling from his hand. Danny watched with wide eyes as the portal stabilized into an oval shape, its center shimmering with supernatural energy. The portal crackled with unstable energy, starting to swirl and pulling things from the room into it, including the table Danny was strapped to.
The moment he passed through its threshold, gravity disappeared. Danny floated weightlessly in a haze of green, the light searing his eyes. This portal was more violent than the one he was used to. It tossed him around, tearing him from his restraints.
Exhaustion crept over him. The torture, the portal - it was too much. Danny's eyes fluttered closed as he lost consciousness, tumbling through the green void. He was unaware as the portal spit him back out.
When he came to, the first thing he noticed was the quiet. Gone were the harsh lights and sounds of the lab. He lay sprawled on rough, red soil, a faint breeze stirring his white hair. This didn’t feel like earth, it was too cold, and he felt how hard it was to breath here, he was better off not breathing and letting his core do the work. Even though his core burned with pain from the torture he undertook. He rolled onto his back and stared up at the unfamiliar night sky.
Danny’s core sang with happiness. He could feel the difference in gravity. *Am I on Mars? * He thought to himself.
Groaning, Danny pushed himself up on his hands and knees, wincing as pain lanced through him. His hazmat suit was tattered and burnt, green-red ectoplasm staining the fabric. The GWI had done a number on him.
Shielding his eyes from the harsh sunlight, Danny scanned his new surroundings. The dusty Martian landscape stretched as far as he could see. In the distance, a cluster of habitats and rovers marked what had to be the Ares III site.
Danny had avidly followed the mission back on Earth. He knew the crew: Commander Lewis, Pilot Martinez, Dr. Beck, Johanssen, Vogel, and the botanist Mark Watney.
Danny shivered; they were his only chance of survival, stranded and injured as he was.
Holding his side, Danny began stumbling toward the habitats, his jumpsuit boots leaving prints in the rust-colored soil. He had to make it there before his strength gave out completely. Just a little farther...
Suddenly, his legs buckled, sending him sprawling face-first onto the hard ground. The last of his energy spent, Danny's glowing green eyes slid closed. He lay motionless as his blood pooled beneath him, staining the Martian soil a vivid emerald.
*This is it. At least I got to go to another planet...*

(DCXDP) The obligations of a rogue versus those of a parent (Pt. 5)
—
Tw: torture scene (GiW agent receiving), general angst, canon-typical violence (DC), nobody is having a good time
Will be crossposted to AO3 eventually
(Masterlist/subscription post)
—
It was pretty easy for Danny to forget that Dr. Crane was a rogue at times.
Most of the time he wasn’t comically evil, like what he’d expect of a Gotham rogue. He was helping Danny, even if only because he didn’t want to be taken in by the GiW as well. He was even downright nice most of the time, or at least neutral.
Sure, he had a strange obsession with fear and psychology, but that wasn’t really out of the ordinary for Danny. It didn’t feel like living with a rogue, just like…staying with a distant relative, or something.
He seemed like just an ordinary person.
Today, though, Danny was brought back to reality.
The GiW agent they’d tracked down together writhed on the ground, screaming in pain and terror. Scarecrow was sat a few feet away, setting up a syringe of the antidote he’d made.
After a few more moments, he injected the man with the antidote, watching him like a hawk the entire time.
Suddenly, the man surged forward, lunging at Scarecrow with a feral scream.
Unluckily for him, though, he was still weak from the fear toxin in his system, and from the beatings he’d received prior. Scarecrow easily wrestled him to the ground, settling himself on the broad part of the agent’s back with a vice grip on one of his arms.
“Let’s try again,” he said sharply, all of the warmth Danny had grown used to gone from his voice. “Where is the GiW base of operations?”
The agent took several shuddering breaths before spitting at Scarecrow, defiance and hatred written all over his face.
For just a moment, the room was utterly silent.
“Fine, have it your way.”
Scarecrow began to twist the man’s arm further. It wasn’t long before the agent began to squirm, then writhe, beneath him. Danny’s stomach churned.
“You know,” Scarecrow began, almost conversationally, “there are plenty of jobs that one can get without the use of their legs, especially with the level of education you have. Anything that doesn’t involve hard labor, really.”
The man’s face was beginning to turn red in his struggle not to scream. He took in gasping breaths, the way that his mouth moved almost reminding Danny of a goldfish.
(He felt awful for the comparison, but it was true.)
“However,” Scarecrow continued, “I find you’d be rather hard-pressed to find a job without the use of your arms. Especially in a place like Gotham, where you can always be replaced by someone eager to do your job for even less money. Of course, you could most likely coast off of savings and severance pay for a while, but…”
He leaned closer to the man’s head, his voice lowering.
“Would you be able to live like that? To live with yourself, if you no longer have a purpose?”
He allowed the agent a few seconds of rest before increasing the pressure on his arm. The agent gasped, letting out a strangled hiss. His arm bones were making fascinating noises in response to the strain. Danny felt sick.
“You seem like a rather driven young man. I’m sure your family would hate to see you unmotivated, directionless. Would they resent you, do you think?”
“Fuck you, you—”
The man was cut off by his own scream as Scarecrow finally allowed his arm to break, audibly splintering into thousands of useless shards of bone.
He had the exact pressure memorized. Clearly, he had done this before.
This was wrong. This was wrong.
Shouldn’t Danny step in, do something?
“That won’t heal cleanly. Even with the best medical care in the world, you’ll end up with permanent damage.”
The man below him wheezed and sobbed, choking on air as Scarecrow let go of his arm carelessly, letting it flop back onto the ground.
“Just the sort of thing something like you deserves,” Scarecrow hissed, his voice cold.
“You tortured a child, and you enjoyed it. You laughed with your friends about it. In your notes, one of your friends complained about the screaming,” Scarecrow brought his leg around, grinding his boot into the man’s broken arm. He howled in agony, writhing uncontrollably.
“Was it inconvenient to him, do you think? Too loud? If you were joking about it, clearly you thought so, too. I could fix that as well.”
He drew out another needle, this one once again filled with fear toxin.
“Scarecrow, wait,” Danny choked out.
Scarecrow turned to look at him.
Even his posture was different than usual. He looked… stiff, more like an animal than a man. When he tilted his head at Danny in a silent question, it looked like something in his neck had snapped, his head lolling to the side.
Danny wondered if he was consciously moving like that, or if it was habit at this point.
“You—we don’t have to do this. We can get information some other way, right? You don’t have to…”
Danny looked down at the GiW agent below Scarecrow. He didn’t even have it in him to glare up at Danny like he had before. Instead he laid limply on the ground, tremors rolling through his body uncontrollably.
“We’ve exhausted every other option and you know it,” Scarecrow said, his voice low, “this is the only way we can move forward.”
“Still, I—I don’t,” Danny swallowed, his throat tight, “this isn’t—this isn’t right. Isn’t there some other way to do this? Like—a truth serum, or something?”
“Truth serums are notoriously unreliable. They’re almost as bad as lie detectors. We’re much more likely to get a reliable result from this.”
Danny just stared at the GiW agent and his splintered, ruined arm. He began to weakly wriggle in Scarecrow’s grasp, which was graciously ignored.
He vaguely remembered himself doing the same thing when he was on the operating table; even if he knew there was no chance of escape, he still thrashed and screamed, desperate to get away. The jagged I-shaped incision on his torso felt uncomfortably warm.
What was there left to say?
“The Bat does the same thing at times, you know,” Scarecrow said, “him and the rest of his brood. By using my toxin, I’m actually lessening the amount of permanent damage that I’m doing. Physically.”
“Still, that doesn’t make it right,” Danny said desperately. “Even if—even if everyone in the world did this, it wouldn’t make it right.”
Scarecrow hummed.
They were both silent for a moment.
His next words were gentle, absurdly so when compared to the scene in front of him.
“I would love an alternative. But…”
He shrugged, hand coming to rest on the break in the GiW agent’s arm. Even without applying any pressure, the man stopped squirming immediately.
“There aren’t any other options,” Danny repeated, his voice flat and his body numb.
“Yes,” Scarecrow said. “I’m sorry.”
There was a pause. No one moved a muscle. Eventually Scarecrow spoke again, his voice strangely empty.
“You can stand outside and keep watch, if you’d like. At such a short distance their radars won’t pick us up.”
Danny said nothing, leaving the room silently.
He sat outside for quite a while.
He was grateful that Scarecrow had, with his help, dragged the agent to one of his previous hideouts. It was soundproofed, after all.
He was glad that he didn’t have to hear the rest of what Scarecrow did to the man.
After what felt like an eternity, Dr. Crane left the building, joining him outside. He guided Danny back to his beat up old truck and they drove home in silence.
“Did you at least…do you know where they are, now?” Danny asked as they entered the apartment, his voice small.
“They didn’t share the details of all of their locations with any one person. I know where one of their locations are, but not their main base of operations.”
Danny felt disgusted. With himself, with Dr. Crane, with the GiW.
He was disgusted by the agent, too. Did he just hate the restless dead so much that he would prefer to be tortured than to give them the upper hand? Did he really think he was in the right?
Was there a chance that he was?
Danny felt very, very small, and very stupid. Stupid and weak and cowardly.
“Danny,” Dr. Crane spoke, his voice soft.
“I’m truly sorry that this is happening to you. I really, truly wish that you didn’t have to endure my company. I…”
He fell quiet. Danny wondered if he was just saying this to pacify him, or if he truly meant it. He wondered if it really mattered in the end.
After a few moments of silence, Dr. Crane sighed, looking truly pained.
“I don’t know. I’m sorry.”
Danny was quiet.
“I’m going to bed early,” he finally said, turning away and leaving without a second glance.

'Merman' Danny trapped in a GIW base.
Except.
It isn't that bad???
Well technically it's pretty bad because they kept him there against his will -at first- and did kidnap him but like... They haven't experimented on him or anything????
Well they did but it doesn't hurt??? Like. At all???
And they give him stuff if he askes for it?? Like games, or space-related stuff.
And it wasn't like they kept him in a cell either- well actually no yea they do but it's really big! Like, a lake full of ectoplasm kinda big so there's plenty of space for him to do stuff!
And they even made him a show to watch! He thinks. Maybe not specifically for him but still! It's looking that way with all of these different heroes fighting people and all that.
So, yea.
Danny doesn't think they're that bad.

Prompt 56
Hear me out: Au where GIW took Vlad while he was in the hospital or close to it. They learned about the ecto-contamination, how somehow he was still alive, continuing to live even while his temperature fluctuated between extremes that should kill a person, that should be impossible. So they sweep in- wipe all files on the man, and slip away. Of course this means that Vlad never becomes Plasmius, his Obsession never gets to form around Maddie It’s Freedom he just wants to be free, to see the sun one last time nor does he become an antagonist. In fact, he has no idea about what his old college friends are up to, nevermind the existence of their children. But that doesn’t stop Danny from becoming a Halfa himself.
Ultimate Enemy came into being from Danny getting captured and also tested on, to where he nearly shattered. He lost everything, he just wanted to be left alone, but they wouldn’t stop, and well, they have two specimens now, they don’t need the first now, do they? Dan is still a fusion of sorts, of a Danny who ate Vlad’s ghost. But he didn’t have a choice. Vlad was already splintering, was already dying, and they both agreed that the GIW couldn’t get a Core, that it would be catastrophic. And maybe, just maybe, with the power boost Dan could escape, do something. But that core? That grieving, broken core that Hates just as much as Dan does, it doesn’t just raise his power.
Danny, he learns all of this. Looks into the eyes of a him who has lost everything, not just once, but thrice, and has an epiphany. He’s not the only one, not the only halfa, and it’s earlier in the timeline, all this not come to pass and…
“We can save him this time.”
Bonus DCxDP crossover on if they flee to Gotham or Bludhaven- a heavily traumatized Dan, a visibly sick and injured Vlad, a worried Danny, and a new clone they manage to stabilize along the way while breaking Vlad out of that hellhole. Or maybe they did a half blind dimension hop with wishing for somewhere safe to hide where they could actually get help.

whumptober24 day 12- starvation fandom - dp x dc tw- starving, medical torture summary- Everything hurts
masterlist ao3 part 8 of SIANT
Everything hurt. But everything always hurt. It just felt worse now because they were starving him. They had stopped feeding him ecto to see how his body reacted. They had been amazed when Danny’s body had started cannibalizing its own ecto. He was getting thinner and his bones were showing. This amazed them even more. They wondered why his body would’t first cannibalize its ‘unnecessary’ bones and organs.
At least they weren’t doing any medical experiments on him besides observing how starvation affected him.
But he was worried.
He had overheard them talking. They were excited about what was coming next.
And he had been right to be worried.
He was strapped to the table again but it was placed in an upright position, as if he were standing. One scientist brought a tube and with a click, Danny’s muzzle unlocked.
No. Something terrible was about to happen. But Danny had to be good. If he wasn’t good they wouldn’t let him listen to space and then everything would hurt even more. He had to be good.
So he tried not to resist as they fed the tube down his throat. He gagged and spluttered and cried, but he did his best not to move or do anything that could be constituted as resisting.
“We will begin with testing how the specimen reacts to ingesting different substances. The first substance we will be testing is vial 2AZ.”
With that, a liquid began to pour down the tube, and Danny inwardly panicked.
What were they giving him? What would it do? What– The liquid made it to his stomach and he thrashed as a burning sensation began in his stomach and spread throughout the rest of his body.
He tried to scream but couldn’t. Tears poured down his face.
He did his best to drift away only becoming more conscious when the pain lessened.
“Test 1 of 20 complete. Moving on to test 2.”
Danny sobbed.
—-----
Sam and Tucker stood with Jazz in the park in the middle of a clump of trees. Sam and Tucker had been relieved that whe had known and had been doing what she could to help. She had sabotaged several of her parents' weapons and used her parents' access to the GIW to destroy some of their own weapons and communication devices. She hadn’t been sure if they knew. But now there were three of them. And hopefully, Valerie would join them.
“We have to get her attention somehow.” Jazz said.
“I still think it would be better to approach Valerie instead of the Red Huntress.” Tucker grumbled.
Sam rolled her eyes. “We need to grab her as Red Huntress, so she can’t deny that we know.”
“But it’s just going to make her angrier!”
“Quiet, both of you.” Jazz said, holding the Fenton Shocker in her hand. It would hopefully disable Valerie’s suit.
“Fine.” Tucker grumbled, taking a device from his pocket. It would emit an ectoplasmic signature that would hopefully bring Valerie to their location in search of a ghost. “Let’s do this then.” He activated it, and Jazz slid the Fenton Shocker into her pocket.
It was only a few minutes before a figure on a hoverboard appeared in the sky.
“Down here.” Sam shouted, and Valerie looked down before descending slowly.
“Where’s the ghost?” she said gruffly, the helmet distorting the sound slightly with static. She was looking at Sam and Tucker, so she didn’t see Jazz come up behind her and jab the Fenton Shocker into the neck of her suit.
Valerie jerked and stumbled to the ground as the hoverboard and suit both retracted.
Sam was on her in an instant, holding her arms behind her back as Valerie struggled against her. Both girls were strong, but Sam was more desperate.
“We just want to talk.” Jazz said, stepping around in front of her.
“Really?” Valerie muttered sarcastically.
“Yes.” Sam said as Tucker dragged his hands down his face.
“Then why attack me?” Valerie growled.
“You would never have admitted you were the Red Huntress if we had just confronted you.” Sam said.
“And how do you know?”
“Danny.” Sam said plainly, and Valerie stopped struggling.
“Do you know what happened to him?” she said quietly.
“We do.” Jazz said. “And we need your help.”
Valerie was silent for a moment. “Fine.” she muttered. “Get off me and tell me what you know.”

The Phantom Soldier part 5
Chapter 5- I'd burn the world just to see you smile
I just want to preface this by saying this has a lot of trauma in it. There are videos of Danny's torture in here and it's not vague. So keep that in mind as you read.
More days pass by as Danny continues to heal. Someone brought in an Avengers calendar and put it on the wall near his bed. Each morning Doctor Cho will mark off the previous day and then check on Danny. Danny asked why she did it and she just turned her smile on him saying it's important to know how much time has passed. Danny still doesn't understand why that's important but he nods his head in agreement.
Tony stops by on the fifth day since the calendar appeared. He doesn't say anything at first. Just looks around the room and checks his chart. Danny isn't sure if the man is waiting for Danny to say something or not. So, Danny just waits. He waits and watches.
Eventually, Tony pulls up a chair next to Danny's bed and sits down. “So, kid. You've been here for a bit now. You feeling relaxed yet? Ready to give up this whole handler/master thing?”
Danny tilts his head to the side just a bit. Almost as if a different angle will help him understand Tony's words better. “Give up? What do you want me to give up?”
Tony just gives him a disappointed look before moving on. “Never mind, we'll circle back around to that. Are you doing okay? Is there anything you need?”
This is some strange ritual that his doctors have been doing. They will come in and ask if he needs something. They persist until he's come up with something whether he needs it or not. It seems they've gotten Tony to do the same.
Danny licks his lips and takes a drink of the juice on his little table as a means to give himself time. He doesn't need food because they still won't give him the real good stuff. It's all liquids and mushy stuff. He has juice and water on his table…
Danny looks over at Tony and with a small voice asks, “I want to meet Spider-Man.”
The shock on Tony's face is funny but Danny's a little more worried when he starts coughing… and doesn't stop.
Maybe that was too much. He only asked because he couldn't think of anything else and he'd overheard a few nurses talking about how adorable and funny the hero is. He'd rather not meet anybody else but that was the first thing he thought of when Tony asked.
Tony grabs the cup of water on Danny's little table and quickly drains it. Once he's gathered himself he looks at Danny with such open curiosity. “Why him? You could have picked a bunch of other people but you chose him specifically. I thought you didn't know who the Avengers were.”
Danny looks down at his hands embarrassed at having to admit why he said it. He fidgets with his fingers avoiding Tony's stare. “I heard the nurses say they want to meet him. They said he's funny and nice.”
Danny is expecting to be yelled at or hit, not the deep laugh that he does get. Tony is wiping a fake tear from one eye when Danny looks up.
“That's the reason why? Kid, that's adorable. I was planning on letting you two meet just not this soon. I want you to be a little more healed before I sick the squirt on ya. He can be a lot if you're not expecting it.” Tony chuckles. “Is there anything else you'd like? I can send Natasha down here. She's the Black Widow and has been dying to meet you.”
Something in Danny's brain clicks at the words Black Widow. Synapses start firing rapidly and a small gasp escapes his mouth involuntarily. “Yes. Black Widow.”
Danny stares at Tony with a clarity and confidence that hadn't been there before. The barest flicker of suspicion crosses Tony's face before it disappears and calm replaces it. Tony stands up and adjusts his shirt then places the chair back against the wall.
“Yeah ok. I'll go grab her real quick. She's been complaining about how bored she's been. Gives her something to do.” Tony takes one last look at Danny and then rushes out the door.
Danny stares at the door with determined focus. He pushes the table away and rips the blankets off him in preparation. Quietly, he moves to the edge of the bed and sits on the tips of his toes. His muscles are coiled tightly as he waits for his target to enter the room.
His eyes go from blue to a bright neon green and his canines grow to resemble fangs. He waits and waits and waits. There is no thought in his head except to kill the Black Widow.
It seems like forever when he finally hears noises on the other side of the door. Mumbled voices of Tony and Her approaching closer.
The doorknob jiggles and then the door slowly opens. Bright red hair and a delicate face are what Danny sees first. It's the only thing he needs to see before he launches himself off the bed to attack the woman.
Natasha sees the attack and immediately drops to the floor to avoid the body flying at her.  Danny hits the door with such force that it slams shut. He whirls around searching for his target only to see her across the room. He snarls and jumps back onto the bed ignoring the sound of the door slamming open. His eyes are on the woman pressed against the further wall.
Her eyes are watching him with the same focus as he's doing. Taking in every small detail. Every shift in body language.
Danny makes to lunge at her again when large arms wind their way around his torso and tighten like a boa constrictor. Danny claws at the arms trying to get them to release him but they don't move. So he resorts to other tactics.
He tries to kick his attacker but they simply grunt in pain. The arms don't loosen even a small bit. Natasha stares him down the entire time. Her expression is blank as she takes everything in.
Danny opens his mouth and starts sucking in air. His lungs draw in as much air as possible and then some. He's so determined to destroy the person in front of him that he doesn't feel the prick of a needle before it's already too late.
The fast-acting sedative rushing through his veins and activating in seconds.
Danny's legs give out and if it wasn't for the arms wrapped around him, he'd have fallen. The scream building in his throat fades and only a small cry is heard. The arms shift and Danny is slowly placed back in the bed with his covers placed back over him.
Danny doesn't stop staring at the woman. Blank determination is clear in his eyes as he follows her movements like a tiger in a cage.
Kill the Widow. Traitor. Kill the betrayer. The heretic must be destroyed. Kill her. kill her. Killherkillherkillherkillherkillherkillher
Those voices demand obedience even as the sedative drags him into unconsciousness.
~~~
Natasha watches as Danny's eyes slowly close before she takes a deep breath of relief. If Tony hadn't seen Danny's shift in behavior then she very well might have died. She's heard Steve talk about that scream of his and he's a super soldier. She never would have stood a chance.
“Well, that was something.” Tony's need to fill the silence shows how nervous the whole thing had made him.
Nat looks over at Steve and isn't surprised to see the sorrow on his face as he stares down at the kid. He always wears his heart on his sleeve and Danny's situation is too close to Bucky's to not affect him.
“Steve, we had to do it. We had to break the trigger otherwise he would have stayed that way.” Nat's words are sharp but she doesn't back down from the truth. It has to be said. “If it makes you feel better I'll stay away until we can figure out how to break the brainwashing.”
“He's so young. He never should have been forced to go through what Bucky did. No one should have.” Steve tucks the kid in and looks up at them.
“How are we supposed to fix this?” Tony motions to the bed with a sigh. “Ughhhh. I'm going to be up all night looking through those files. I just know they're gonna piss me off.”
Tony rubs a hand over his face in frustration.
“I'll look through them with you. It'll be faster with the both of us.” Nat looks down at the broken sleeping boy.
“Oh thank god. I was not looking forward to going at it by myself. I've already seen a few things that make me want to set fire to a building.” Tony says.
“Do you think he'll be okay? He looks so small compared to everything.” Steve asks softly, looking up at them.
Nat smirks, “If he's anything like Bucky then we don't have to worry. He has us to help him through it.”
“Yeah. He might be small but the kid is scrappy.” Tony snorts as he walks towards the door.
Natasha isn't looking forward to what they'll find in those files. She doesn't want to read about the experiments they did on him. Doesn't want to read about the torture they put him through. She doesn't want to be reminded about her own childhood but for this kid, she'll do it. If it means helping fix what's broken inside of him she'll do it. She'll break herself apart so that this kid can grow up healthy and just a little less traumatized than the rest of them.
She meant what she said to Steve. Danny is going to have all of them to lean on even when he wants nothing more than to hide from the entire world.
~~~
Natasha leans to the side as a wrench is thrown, narrowly missing her. She looks up from the Starkpad and files she's been scouring through for the past hour to look at the man who threw the tool. Stark is at his desk with his head in his hands. Nat can see him trembling but she isn't sure from what. Setting the pad down, she gets off the floor and walks over to him.
“Tony?” She asks.
Tony stands up abruptly, picks up the stool he'd just been sitting on, and throws it in a general direction. It crashes against a wall and falls onto an open toolbox, knocking the whole thing to the ground with a clatter. “Who the fuck does something like this to a kid. What kind of parent gives their child away to be tortured?!” He turns to her with rage swirling in his eyes. His fists are clenched as his entire body shakes from anger.
Nat has to process what he says before she can respond. “Tony? What exactly did you find?”
Tony walks around her pacing back and forth as he talks. “There's some sort of government agency hunting down so-called ghosts. His own parents gave him up to be experimented on because they thought he was one. They ripped him apart for months before Hydra ever got ahold of him. Hydra found out and…” Tony picks up a scrap piece of leftover metal from his latest suit and throws it at the wall before continuing.
“Hydra found out about this so called ghost kid and decided they wanted in on the torture. Nat, they managed to convince the government agency and his parents that they had the technology to get them the information they were looking for.” Tony turns to her and if she didn't know him so well she never would have seen the grief underneath all that rage.
“His parents handed him over to Hydra personally like a pig to the slaughter. His parents handed over all the equipment needed to contain him and keep him chained up like an animal.” All the anger seems to drain from Tony as he sags down on the futon couch. He looks up at Nat with the grief of someone who's just buried a child. “They gave Hydra everything, Nat. The tools. The information. Then when Hydra had everything they needed his parents just disappeared. I can’t find anything about his parents anywhere. It’s like they disappeared off the face of the earth.”
Now, Natasha isn't naive. She's done and seen horrible things. She's seen parents sell their children to brothels in exchange for money to feed the rest of the family. She's seen kids murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Parents abuse kids all the time and society does nothing in a lot of cases. She did terrible things for the Red Room. So she knows about true evil but she's never heard of anything like this.
She can feel her own anger rising as she turns and picks up the Starkpad he'd been using. She flips through page after horrifying page of notes that the organization had taken on the whole ordeal.
Tony hadn't even told her the more horrific parts of the whole thing. He hadn't told her that the government agency had vivisected the kid while he was awake. They hadn't bothered with any form of anesthesia as they ripped him open to see how he worked. When Hydra got their greedy hands on the poor kid and put him on their own table, Danny screamed for his parents. He screamed for the people who put him in this situation to begin with.
Nat presses play on a small video file attached to the document and instantly regrets it.
 Danny is strapped to a metal lab table with special cuffs around his wrists and ankles. His torso and arms are bare showing off an innumerable amount of scars. Scars that should never be on a boy as young as he is here. He has on a pair of boxer briefs that hide the most important bits but shows off his bare legs and feet. Both are just as scarred as the upper half.
The flesh of his torso is peeled back and held by clamps that dig into the skin still in its proper place.
There's a camera pointed in such a way that she can see things no human was meant to see.
Danny's screams are muffled by the muzzle attached to his face. The muzzle that looks so similar to the one the Winter Soldier used to wear and yet so different in many ways. Nat can tell he's trying to use that scream of his but there's something preventing it. Most likely it's a special muzzle.
His eyes…
His eyes are filled with terror and the desperation of someone who knows that they'll never get out alive. It's something Nat has seen in the innocents she used to be forced to hunt down and kill. A person in a situation they should never have been in.
His eyes are still filled with a small twinkle of hope that there might be someone, anyone, out there who can save him.
There's a person dressed in all white, complete with a white lab coat, digging around inside the boy. They pull out several organs and place them on a metal tray off to the side. Another lab coat writes down whatever they've found.
Nat can't hear anything they say over the sound of Danny's screaming and she can't decide if that's better or worse.
The entire time Danny cries and screams in agony. Nat can see that he's much younger here. Maybe only fifteen. It breaks her heart to see him like this.
The two lab coats turn to look at something off camera. They move to the side and two new people enter. These people are much more colorful giving off the impression that they may not be with this organization entirely.
The woman is shorter and more petite than her male counterpart, who is tall and stocky in a soft muscular way. She has a red bob while he has black hair the same shade as the boy on the table. Both wear a protective hazmat type outfit. The woman's is a light powdery blue and the man’s is as orange as a traffic cone.
They peer at Danny with such hatred and grief until the woman turns toward the male in comfort. The man must be her lover or husband with the way he envelopes her in his arms. She sobs loud enough that it can be heard even over Danny's screams.
Danny's eyes shine with so much hope when they enter. He sobs and screams and thrashes on the table as much as he can. It's no use because the muzzle and restraints stay firmly in place. Nat focuses on his hands as they reach for the couple, straining so hard against the cuffs that she can see blood seeping from wounds around the wrists.
He's so desperate to get to them and that's when it clicks. She knows exactly who these people are and with the revelation comes a sob following so closely behind.
These are his parents. These are the people who turned their backs on him when he needed them most. These are the people who turned him over to Hydra as an easily reformed weapon.
Danny's screams feel like they get louder as he realizes his parents won't be helping him. Betrayal and so much pain clear on his face as he lies splayed open for them to see. Nat covers her mouth with a hand as she chokes back a sob. She can't watch this. She thought she could but it brings back too many bad memories. Too many times when she's had that same look in her own eyes. She quickly turns around feeling sick.
“Friday, turn it off.” She manages to choke out.
The screams are abruptly shut off and then there's only silence.
Nat drops her face into her trembling hands. She fights to hold back the tears as memories of her own stolen childhood flash through her mind. Oh, how her heart breaks for the boy on the table.
She can feel the anger rising at the parents who looked their son in the eyes while he was cracked open and gave him such a hateful stare. These monsters had hunted him down and then given him over to some shady organization to use as an experiment and they acted like they were the victims of the story.
The way that woman sobbed as if her son had died when he was right in front of them made her so insanely pissed that she wanted to punch something. She wanted to burn everything and everyone associated with them to the ground.
Natasha drops her now steady hands and looks up at Tony. It's like looking in a mirror. Her rage reflected in those hazel eyes.
Natasha is going to find these people and turn them to ash. Nobody will ever find their bodies after she's done with them. The look in Tony's eyes says he'll do the same.
“We have to find them. We need to find them and then make sure they get so lost that no one will ever find them again. They don't deserve to breathe after this.” Natasha says, her voice as sharp and as cold as jagged ice. “They don't deserve to live.”
Tony nods his head and drags himself off the couch walking to stand in front of the assassin. “You've barely watched one video but from what I saw there are thousands. Do you think you can watch more videos that are probably going to be worse than that one?”
His voice is spilling with anger but underneath it, Nat can hear just the slightest bit of grief. He's not just asking her this question. He's asking himself the same thing.
She nods her head turning to look at the screen frozen behind her. The frozen screen with the broken boy and his pain filled eyes.
“I have to.” The words are so low that Tony almost doesn't catch them. “Danny was forced to live these videos. The least I can do is watch them.” Nat says as she looks back at Tony with conviction.
“We'll catch them, Nat. Every last bastard that put their hands on him. We'll make sure that kid is avenged in the best way we know how.” Tony says.
~~~~
Hours pass or maybe days. Nat isn't sure how long she's been down here going through files and videos. She wants to curl up in her bed and hide under the covers. She's seen and done so many monstrous things, the Red Room trained her to be a killer after all, but that was nothing compared to what was done to Danny.
She thought the videos of Hydra would be the worst of it but she was wrong. The Ghost Investigation Ward videos were almost worse. The “scientists” in those videos tore Danny apart in ways that should have killed the kid.
Vital organs would be taken out only for them to grow back overnight. Limbs were cut off and then when they'd regrown they were taken again. At one point, Nat is positive she sees them cut out his heart. The organ continues to beat in the scientist's hand as they place it in a jar and take it away.
Nat watches as Danny bleeds, a mix of red and green, so much so that he should have died from the blood loss.
Acid was poured over his hand and she watches it sizzle and melt only for that same hand to be fine a few hours later.
The more she watches, the more she wants to throw up. She forces herself to keep watching so she knows exactly what they did to him. So she'll have a better idea of just how to help him.
Things take a different turn when she gets to the videos with Hydra. There's still experimentation but it's more methodical and less guesswork. They don't keep cutting him open. No, they do worse things.
She watches as Danny is locked in a dark cell and chained to the floor. He has just enough chain to let him sit but never stand. He's left in that room for three months with no interaction. No food or water. Nothing. It almost seems like they've locked him up and thrown away the key.
“Tony.” Natasha manages to whisper as she flings the current folder of videos from the Starkpad to the larger hologram in the middle of the lab. “Tony, you have to watch these. It gets so much worse.”
Tony stops digging through all the paper files and turns to watch the, now enlarged, video.
The time stamp says it's been 5 months since Danny has been locked in the cell. It's so dark the camera is using night vision to watch the boy. His hair is longer, almost past his shoulders. He lays on the floor on his back with his head angled so he can watch the door. He's so thin and still that Nat is positive he's finally died. Until his eyes open and try to focus on the door.
“What the fuck?!” Tony tells but Natasha ignores him.
She can hear papers rustling as she watches the video. Dread fills her with the knowledge that something bad will happen otherwise Hydra would never have kept this recording.
The door opens to the cell for the first time in the 5 months that Danny’s been locked up. Light spills across the boy’s face making him shut his eyes and turn his head. A man enters the room with several guards and for the first time, Natasha can make out what someone’s saying.
“Subject 00, I believe it’s time we finally meet. Hydra has big plans for you and I think it’s time we get started. My name is Doctor Makis and I’ll be the one in charge of your care.” The short man says as he steps in front of Danny, guards fanning around them with guns ready.
Danny doesn’t move. Doesn’t say a word. He lays there with his eyes shut tightly against the bright light spilling in. Nat wants to weep at how broken he looks.
The scientist waves his hand and several guards unchain the kid but leave his cuffs on. One guard on each side of him and they drag him out of the cell behind the scientist. They leave the door to the cell open and then the video ends.
The next video is of Danny strapped to a table. He’s blinking his eyes rapidly as if he’s trying to adjust to the light. This must be when they drag him out for the first time. Natasha can see Danny better in the bright fluorescent lights, though she wishes she couldn’t.
The first thing she notices is how skinny Danny is. Skin pulled so tight against his ribs that she knows he can’t be fully human. No human would survive as long as he has without food and water. She can count every rib and can see faint outlines of organs. A Y scar so jagged and uneven but healed running down his torso. His hair is so long and greasy. Dirt covers him in splotches making it hard to see the boy underneath.
The look in Danny’s eyes is one that Nat has seen so many times before. Children that are starving in war-ridden countries with no signs of stopping. She’s seen that look in women who are trapped in abusive relationships and can’t break themselves free. It’s the look of someone who has lost all hope of ever being free again.
It’s a look she wore at one point.
Danny doesn’t move except to look around at his surroundings. Doctor Makis stands next to the kid looking him over. He barely caresses Danny’s cheek and Danny is chasing after the touch with a hunger in his eyes.
The Hydra scientist chuckles as he turns and pulls a rolling metal tray closer to him. “Your time in isolation has corrected your behavior. If you’re good, I’ll send the guards to get you some food and water.”
Danny just stares at him yearning in his eyes as he trembles. He makes no attempt to move as the scientist grabs a syringe filled with bright neon green liquid and sticks it in his arm. Natasha can see the vein become more prominent as it’s filled with the liquid. The kid is so dehydrated that she can visibly see the liquid as it runs through his veins until it’s completely dispersed.
“Subject 00 was injected with the Ectoplasm gathered by original handlers. It was given 35mgs to start with. Will wait an hour to see results. If nothing happens will up the dosage to 50mgs.” The scientist says into the empty room. Nat’s assuming that’s why this video has sound.
The effects of the Ectoplasm are almost immediate. Danny’s eyes start to glow the same green as the liquid. He looks a little more filled out. He still looks terrible but Nat can no longer see the outline of his organs. Whatever the liquid is, it’s helping the kid.
“From what I’ve read, this Ecto stuff is what ghosts are made out of. It’s their food and essence. These GIW may have been crackpots pretending to be scientists but they detailed their work.” Tony says in the silence. “This is the first session with Hydra. They wanted to see how long they could starve the kid and then inject him with the Ecto. They wanted to know if he could survive on only Ecto so it was less care for the future.”
“Makes sense. If they’d succeeded in turning him into another Soldier, it would have been easier for him to down a vial of this stuff rather than carrying around enough food and water for longer missions.” Nat says, her eyes not leaving the video.
“Looks like they might have been onto something,” Tony says as they watch the scientist inject Danny with another vial.
“Subject 00 has responded well to the first injection. The results are very promising. The subject shows nonhuman traits with the first injection, possibly due to its status. It's showing fewer signs of malnutrition that I’ve documented in the file. I’ve upped the dosage to 50mgs. If this also has good results I will start doubling the dosage every hour.” Makis says.
“Tony look at him. It’s subtle but whatever this stuff is helping him.” Nat says.
The video time-lapses and they watch as Danny’s face fills out a little more. His body looks a lot less dehydrated than before and there’s the tiniest bit of meat on the kid. This stuff is working better than any refeeding plan they have him on. Instead of taking weeks for him to get better, it’s taking minutes.
The video returns to normal speed as the scientist comes back with a full needle of the Ecto. He wastes no time injecting the liquid. He no longer struggles to find a working vein as Danny’s veins rehydrate.
There’s an even bigger difference than before. Danny now looks like a kid who’s been starving for only two months compared to before. He still looks gaunt but his features have filled out a lot more. His face is lean but there’s just a hint of baby fat in his cheeks. Nat can no longer see his ribs and his limbs are no longer more skin than meat. It’s amazing to see the differences as they happen.
The Doctor takes his pulse and looks delighted as he places wires all over the kid. An unsteady beat comes from the machine as it monitors his heart. “The subject is responding just as well to the second injection. It now has a heartbeat and I’m monitoring it now. The beat is unsteady, but I suspect it will become steady with more injections. Suffice it to say that our initial idea will be the way to go. Once its condition is steady and normal for a boy of its estimated age I will have it eat and drink creating a baseline. Then we can proceed with the next steps.”
Danny watches everything, from the Doctor to the guards who shift periodically. He doesn’t make a sound but he doesn’t have to. Natasha understands that he probably doesn’t have the voice for it with all the screaming. If he’s had the muzzle on since his time with the GIW then his throat is most likely too dry for even a whimper.
“Have you found anything in those files about how to get some of this stuff? If it’s working that well on him after all those months with no food and water then it’ll probably work better than anything we can do.” Nat asks Tony.
She hears Tony rustling around with more papers as the timelapse happens again. This time there’s a definite improvement. Meat starts filling the kid out giving him an almost muscle definition some would compare to that of a runner. His body is lean and lithe but slightly defined in the torso and leg area. Yeah, he’s still skinny but if anyone saw him on the streets they’d think it’s just because of his age. What’s even more astonishing to Nat is Danny’s hair flickers between that dark raven black and a pure snow white. Complete opposites. The Doctor notices it too and seems to vibrate with excitement. When Danny looks up Nat can see his eyes shift to a vibrant neon green and she has to wonder what happened to this poor kid that made him like that in the first place.
“Found it,” Tony says coming to sit beside her. “Looks like the Fenton’s created an air filtration device when they first created this portal of theirs. It’s like a glorified air filtration device except instead of filtering out pollen and any other normal particles, it filters out this ecto. They have the specs here and I might be able to create something halfway decent in a few days but this machine is a fucking monstrosity. I see the components of a toaster, an air gun, a peanut butter jar, and hairpins just to name a few. They fucking MacGyvered this shit with household parts and I honestly don’t know how it worked. I can make something that’s more stable but it’s going to take time. Even if I hole myself up in the lab like usual.”
“Subject 00 looks to be in perfect health with this third injection. All vital signs are normal for the half-breed as the previous organization has stated. Its heartbeats are half the amount of an average human and its temperature is at fifty-three degrees. Over the next few days, I shall observe its vitals to make sure it has stabilized. My professional opinion of the subject so far is very shallow. I shall have to do a great many tests to see if it has the capabilities of joining our great Winter Soldier.” Doctor Makis says as he writes in his notes.
The video goes on for a bit longer but it’s mostly Makis observing Danny’s vitals. Danny doesn’t do anything but lay on that metal surface. Nat stares into his eyes until the video ends, her heart aching for the boy she couldn’t save. When the hologram shuts off she turns to Tony. Her jaw clenched and her heart beating quickly from anger at the injustices done to the boy upstairs.
“Do it. See if Bruce can help you with the chemical compounds. If it’ll heal him as quickly as what we saw in the video then we need to do it. Even if he’s healed long before you’ve got the machine up and running it’ll be good for any future injuries he might receive. It might even be vital to his kind and we just haven’t gotten that far in the files to know it.” Nat says.
“We have to be careful with this, Nat. Everything I’ve read so far says this stuff is radioactive. If it’s as deadly as the files say then I need someone with a bit more expertise than a file from crazy Nazis. Except there’s nobody. Nobody knows this shit exists except for two dead scientists, a dead government organization, and a bunch of Nazis that may or may not all be dead.” Tony runs his hand through his hair. “I can get Bruce to run tests on it but the information could take years to figure out.”
Natasha sighs and runs her hand over her face in frustration. Everything about this is a mess and while they have some of the smartest people on the team, that might not be enough for whatever comes next. “Just…do what you can. I’ll talk to Strange and see if he has any idea about any of this. Later. We both need a break from the horrors we just watched. You need to get out of the lab and I. Well, I just need to go.”
Tony sighs and leaves everything right where it is as he follows Nat out of the lab.
It’s going to be such a long miserable night.
So we don't lose those angst filled tags...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The JL were having a normal, for them at least, meeting when suddenly a portal rips opens and spits out a young teen with snow white hair and glowing green eyes and he's carrying a bundle as he's stumbles out and lands on his knees in the meeting room.
The two main odd things was floating above the kid's head was a crown made of stars, ice, and shifted like a aurora borealis and the bundle in his arms was strangely made of stars somehow, almost like a blanket of galaxies plucked out of the cosmos.
Before anyone of them could say or do anything, the kid turns around and screams towards the portal as he scrambles for it.
"JAZZ NO DON'T DO THIS! I CAN STILL FIGHT THEM! NONONONO!" but before he could reach the portal it snaps close.
The kid lands again onto the floor when he doesn't reach it in time, pleading for the damn thing to open again, and the bundle in his arms begins to cry from the jolting and noise.
The baby crying was the only thing that stopped the kid from pleading and instead focused his attention on the bundle in his arms.
"I'm sorry, I'm so damn sorry Ellie. I should had gotten us out of there sooner, I should had saved you bef- I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything..."
Those were the rushed, raw words the kid said down to the bundle. The kid curled inwards a bit, to both shield the baby, who was calming down somewhat into tiny cry hiccups, and for himself.
Those with advanced hearing could tell the kid was still whispering apologizes under his breath as he held the baby close.
"I'm sorry everyone, I'm so sorry. I tried, I tried so hard to save everyone but in the end... I'm sorry- everyone's gone... I'm sorry."
The Power Core
DP x DC Prompt
Danny doesn't know how long he's been trapped in this coffin the GIW put him in. His parents gave him to the GIW when they couldn't accept him being a Halfa.
He endured so many painful experiments by the hands of the GIW. He was then put into a cylindrical coffin that drains him of his powers. He can't see what's going on outside because the GIW put a casing over the glass in his coffin. He can't move either. Many things are keeping his limbs and mouth from moving. He can even feel them digging into his body and can feel them drain his ectoplasm for who know what. He probably wouldn't survive this long if he hadn't ascended to the throne for the Infinite Realms.
He can tell he's somewhere new, as he's begun to hear the voice of a woman trying to talk to him, he can't respond to the woman because of the muzzle on his mouth. And then his body couldn't handle anymore torture. His body morphed into the age his Ghostly half is, the age of a 6 year old boy, which causes his limbs and mouth to be freed, but it also causes him to collapse from where he was being held in the air by the things restricting his limbs(he didn't know that he was right-side up and was mostly out of it because of the low levels of ectoplasm he has).
Meanwhile, either Bruce, Tim, or both are wondering why the power core they bought from a government agency is malfunctioning. It was bought for Wayne Enterprises. It was said to be the only power core capable of lasting years. And when it was opened up to see what's wrong, a young boy around the age of 5 wasn't what anyone expected to see inside the power core, with wounds on his limbs and mouth from the restraints and the muzzle inside the power core that could be seen.
Danny is the ghost king. He gets tortured by the GIW and escapes. It has changed his mind on a lot of things. One of those is his thoughts on multidimensional war. Earth must be destroyed. There is no hope for humanity.
During his capture, he dies. He becomes a full ghost. His obsession of protection only extends to his fellow undead. The rest must die.
Dp x dc idea 159
Danny is being hunted. Both his parents and the Giw. They all think he is a villain so he might as well be one.
He’d just choose who he’d be a villain for.
By then he had one choice. The flash. That man seems to care about his villain . He doesn’t think the man would let one of his villains be tortured or experimented on.
After his recent escape from the parties hunting him he sets out for central city. He’d just be a villain to an actual decent person instead.
I’m personally imagining him still a teen and doing the most mundane crimes. Just using his powers enough the cops can’t do anything to stop him.
“Ghost Hunters?” Bruce’s growl is deep.
“There’s nothing you can do,” sighs Danny. “They’re backed by the US government. I go back to the States, they’ll be after me, and you can't stop them.”
“Oh,” says Tim, a long-drawn-out song of epiphany. Oh-OH-oh. “You mean the Ghost Investigation Ward? Rogue branch of the Dee Ee Oh, capturing and torturing ghosts in the name of research?”
“Yeah,” Danny huffs, defeated. “Them.”
“They’re gone.”
Danny blinks. “What?”
“They’re gone,” Tim repeats. “Disbanded. Labs and prison destroyed, captives released, data wiped. There’s nothing left.” “Are you sure? How do you know they’re gone?”
“Because I’m one of the people that brought them down.”
Hope and gratitude spark in Danny’s eyes. “You did?”
“Yep. Me and my team. A couple of years ago now. We met a ghost trying to escape from them and she told us what was going on, and once she'd recovered she helped us take them down. We went in, got everyone out, wiped the server and blew up a bunch of stuff. Then I went to Batman, and he took it back to the Justice League. The Green Lanterns got involved. The agents in charge were arrested, trialled, and jailed. The Lanterns have been keeping tabs ever since. That shit was super illegal.”
“Illegal? But… the Anti Ecto Acts?”
“Anti Ecto Acts?” “You know, ghosts are by definition non-sentient and hazardous, must be reported on sight and secured or destroyed?”
Tim shakes his head. “Nup. No such thing.”
“No, but, there is, because… they told us…”
“Who told you?” growls Jason.
“The Guys In…” Danny pauses a moment, and then takes in a quick breath and lets it go. “Oh.”
“There was an Anti-Ecto Bill, a few years ago,” Batman adds into the pause of realisation. “It didn’t get far. It was completely incompatible with the Meta Protection legislation. A few news articles were published, and it died a quick death.”
Jason whispers something that sounds like “Go lowest!”
Danny’s trembling with the weight of his hope. “But… ghosts aren’t metas…?”
“The legal definition of ‘meta’ is pretty loose,” Batman says with a quirk of his lips. “A meta is ‘any person who shows abilities outside the normal human range’. Legally speaking, Nightwing is a meta.”
“Stupid flexible joints,” mutters Jason.
Damian elbows him. “Stop grumbling. You’re legally a meta too.”
“Yeah, but coming back from the dead is much more obviously an extrahuman ability than –”
The squabble that breaks out is more for the purpose of squabbling than out of any real investment in any side of the argument. Under its cover, Danny quietly turns to Batman. “So… I'm safe?"
He seems small and fragile now, the powerful, self-assured teacher and assassin gone, leaving just a young – a very young – man. “I can… I can go home?”
I've had a brainworm for a few days now so here me out.
After an accidental reveal gone wrong, Danny is forced to flee the country with both his parents and the giw after him. While he's trying to find some place internationally to settle down, he comes across a secluded complex.
Said complex happens to have access to an ectoplasm run off which Danny is in desperate need of. Though it has been corrupted by whatever the people of the complex have been doing to it, that's no problem for Danny as he can easily purify the portion he takes in to survive.
Deciding this is the perfect place to live off the grid, Danny sets to work figuring out how to blend in. It turns out that's the easy part. With his temporary stint as a ninja, his training with his black belt mom, and his general ghost physiology, he fits in pretty well.
He fits in so well in fact that he is told he'll be training someone one of the head bosses has their eye on. A kid his age.
Basically what follows is Danny accidentally ruining Talia's plans for Jason by unconsciously purifying his corruption and just talking him through his emotions. When Jason gets back to Gotham, he returns without a clouded mentally and realizes just how much Bruce went through after his death.
Instead of unleashing his complicated plan, he quietly takes over the underworld. He loves his father but also knows there are situations in Gotham that require a more firm hand. Jason decides to be a firm hand in his dad's place.
(I imagine he is only revealed on accident yet his reunion with his family is just as dramatic as Under the Red Hood. Tbh it probably has something to do with the joker suddenly going missing.)
Meanwhile back at the League of Assassins, Talia is impressed by Jason's training and is under the impression that his failure in Gotham is due to him getting cold feet at the last second so she puts Danny in charge of Damian's training.
Danny this time takes a more conscious role in ruining the league's brainwashing by challenging Damian's beliefs and teaching him he should use his weapons to protect, not to harm. By the time Damian gets to Wayne Manor, there is significantly less deprogramming that needs to be done.
Not so Artificial Intelligence Part 2
When Bruce finally managed to get the time to look at the file Danny had added to the bat computer, it was almost patrol, and the rest of the family was filling in to get ready to head out. Even Jason had shown up, but that was probably just because he was bribed by Alfred with leftovers from dinner. Bruce couldn’t really blame him, Alfred’s food was the best in the world, but he does wish that he would show up more often just to hang out with him and his siblings.
Bruce sat in the bat-chair, graciously labeled with a sticker from a recent prank by Stephanie. She had gone around and labeled everything in the bat cave, but added the bat suffix in front. It had taken forever to find most of them, but he allowed some of them to remain.
Finding the new folder was easy, it was labeled FROM DANNY, and left in the middle of the screen. Clicking it open and sipping his fresh coffee he glanced at the first document. The folder was full of notes, pictures and videos, but all of the previews were white, green, or black.
Bruce started to read through the document, and chocked on his coffee at the contents.
Hello Batman and family, I hope this reached you before they do. I didn’t bring this up just incase you knew and were supportive, but how you act and how contaminated you are I will assume you do not. There is a Government Law that declares any being that has come into contact with enough or creates ectoplasm as non-sentient and non-sapient, but at the same time malicious {Abbreviated the AEA}. We are to be turned over to the GIW to be experiment upon and exterminated. This is literal torture, and I have gathered as much evidence as me and my friends could without being caught. I beg you, please be careful if you decide to take these people down. From what is on here, I think that Lazarus Water is a form of corrupted ectoplasm. Also, anyone who has died and come back to life no matter what are counted, and anyone with godly blood within them. Please Please, save us. My parents are the leading “scientists” which is bullshit, and they’ve already tied me down once. I can’t go through that again. Please, Amity and the Infinite Realms need help. If you don’t help us, I’m scared we may be forced to go to war, and I don’t think you can win against the godly dead.
Please, I’m begging you - Danny Fenton {King Phantom}
“You good B?” Nightwing asked strolling over casually. He didn’t know how to answer, how was he supposed to say ‘Oh yeah, just found out that the government calls us non-sentient\sapient, and we are to be experimented and slaughtered. Also if we don’t stop them our worlds probably going to fall and we’re all going to die a painful death.’ That’s a fun conversation to have.
Clearing his throat he finally spoke up.
“Red Robin, Oracle, I need you to help me sort through these, Nightwing, get the Justice league ready for an emergency meeting, call the Dark too. Look at this.”
“Are we sure it’s real though? It could be a prank,” muttered Oracle, though even she doubted her words.
“Even so, the threat is there and we should certainly look through this, and that means the League needs to know.”
Batman carefully mourned the loss of a peaceful evening, and his coffee, he was going to need to leave that at the cave, he had an image to keep.
Nightwing wasn’t smiling anymore, Robin looked concerned, and Red Hood was openly gawking at the screen.
“I’ve called the emergency meeting, you three sort these files out, I’m calling up the JLD now. Guess we should warn Constantine to bring a couple extra bottles huh.” His joke fell flat, but Bruce wonders if he should bring some alcohol and coffee with him, image be dammed.
“Wait a second, godly blood included? They fuckn’ shittin’ on Diana!”
“That’s what your concerned about Todd? Not that the we both fall under these parameters, along with Father and the rest of the collection? I will go fetch Thomas from his chambers, he will need to suit up to follow us to the watchtower.”
“Good idea Damian, tell him to hurry up. Everyone else, in the Zeta Tube, Alfred, you can stay here if you want.” Bruce gathered his laptop and moved the file over, copying and sending it to Tims laptop as well.
“Thank you master Bruce, I will wait for the younger masters then I will be up shortly. Run along now.” Alfred excused with a bow, but even his face was shadowed in worry and thinly veiled anger.
“See you in a bit Alf.” Dick replied, inputting directions to the watchtower in and doing a quick headcount.
With a flash, the dark gloomy cave was replaced by fluorescent lights and the steel infrastructure of the watchtower. Hopping off the platform another flash of light appeared, and Aquaman stepped out. The group filled out as Aquaman politely greeted them. Making their way to the nearest meeting room, Batman and Red Robin began to set things up as the gathered heroes began to sit.
“Hey Nightwing, what’s with the meeting, you never call for an emergency meeting, Blüd rarely has big threats.” Flash mentioned as he zoomed into the meeting room, last as always, and began to dig into his waffle plate. Where he got waffles from, Bruce didn’t want to know, they weren’t serving waffles in the cafeteria today, or yesterday from leftovers.
“This isn’t just Blüdhaven, it’s all of the united States.” He worried, checking over one final time to make sure everyone was here. A collection of the main heroes from the Justice League, they’d need to figure out who counted as ecto-contaminated before throwing people around, and Constantine, Zatanna, and Deadman were gathered to represent Justice League Dark. At least he assumed Deadman was there, as a chair was pulled out and labeled for him. At least they wouldn’t have to race to find him, they could tell him just to stay up in the watchtower if things got bad. Finally, Robin and Signal rushed in, signal tiredly rubbing his eyes and his helmet in Agent A’s hands.
“As some of you know, a person got stuck in the batcomputer a couple months ago. And was only recently released.” Murmurs and imputed questions rose around, and Nightwing promptly ignored them.
“They left behind a file for us, and we were looking through it and discovered many hidden crimes from the US government. They have taken and labeled a whole species and group of people as non-sentient and non-sapient, and have been experimenting and committing genocide on them.” Again, a chorus of questions and yelling went up, and Nightwing had to take a moment to pause. A glance at Martian Manhunter reviled a stone cold face, quietly waiting for more information.
“Oh god… what is this?”
Ok guys consider this: DP fic where Danny and Wes run away together
Make no mistake, they still absolutely HATE each other. Wes has been trying to expose Danny’s identity since the beginning, and that hasn’t changed a bit since the GiW appeared.
Now, though, it makes a little bit more sense to Danny.
Wes is at his window, panting and shaking, and he is bleeding. The GiW, he explains, had been harassing him since the beginning. An hour ago, they got the warrant needed to take him into custody, and they went after him immediately. To add to that, they got the papers to go after one other person as well. Danny.
So now, they’re on the world’s worst road trip to Florida or Alaska or some other, equally far away state because Wes has an uncle there who he knows has a deep enough grudge against the government that he won’t sell them out for anything.
They hate each other, and desperately wish they could ditch each other, but Danny’s the only one who can actually keep their rustbucket bike (originally Wes’ brother’s, gifted to him after it started breaking down) working without dropping at least 2 grand on repairs, and Wes is the only one with a driver’s license.
Danny’s honestly surprised that Wes didn’t just sell him out. Wes told him that, quite frankly, he probably would have, had the GiW not attacked him as viciously as they did. He still hated Danny, of course, but he couldn’t live with himself if he just…left someone to get tortured like that.
Danny snaps that he knew the GiW would do that since the beginning, and if Wes had just listened to him—
In truth, he’s surprisingly touched. He’s never gonna tell Wes that, but still.
Basically just roadtrip of hell where Danny and Wes slowly get closer and start to understand each other, while simultaneously Jazz and Sam are working together to politically destroy the GiW, Tucker is running digital interference as much as possible (Danny, please stop showing your full face in front of security cameras, are you trying to give him a seizure), and the parents Fenton are beginning to think that they might’ve, just maybe, made a slight mistake in their understanding of Phantom.
Part 3
Previous
Danny. (Might make this an actually a story and not bullet points later just need it to not be in my head)
Danny is 21, Jason is 22.
Danny goes to Gotham U (probably aerospace engineering idk)
Danny's tuffs of white hair is being with the GIW. Vivisection, medical torture, stress, being in a state of almost dying all the time, experiment, ect
Danny had matching "autopsy" scars to Jason
Good-ish relationship with parents (they're just MIA)
The portal in Amity is gone (?)
Danny and Jason will become trauma brothers (not in this one but soon maybe)
Danny POV
The GIW got bold and took over Amity, claiming radiation,l poisoning from the Mr. And Mrs. Fenton. Claiming they were criminals after they stopped working with them. Neither Danny nor Jazz have heard from them since. The sudden seizure of the town meant both Jazz and Danny had to change their last names and hope Tucker and Technus can keep their promise and erase them from all files and replace it with their new names and identities. Their new Family name being the Nightingales, a family that had lost their parents in an accident a long time ago leaving behind 3 children to excel in different fields.
Jazz went off to college at Stanford while Danny and Elle went to Gotham. Danny for university and Elle for school. Why Gotham? There were so many energies and frequencies that their ghost signatures shouldn't be noticed and if it was it'd be easy to hide. Plus, they both really liked the city. They had moved to Gotham in the summer to settle in before school. Dani got her Gotham academy uniforms, Danny got his attire for class, and both were about ready for school to start at the end of the month.
Only one problem, he keeps getting mistaken for some guy. This guy must be frightening or something since as soon as he smiles or laughs to try and reassure whoever stops him, they look at him in horror. Especially if he has his green eyes at the time. Danny wonders why.
Sacrifices
ai-less whumptober23 day 12- sacrifice/character death fandom- Danny phantom TW- character death, medical stuff summary- Danny offers to trade himself for Ellie.
ao3 ailesswhumptober masterlist part 1 of SIANT
The world wavered in and out of focus. Danny much preferred when he was drifting in Nocturne’s realm.
He didn’t know how long he had been here. How long he had been trapped.
The GIW had been a joke at first.
But then they had captured her.
His clone. His sister. His mirrorborn.
They had come to his haunt and taunted him while holding a gun to her head, an ectoranium infused collar sound her neck. He could see that she was struggling not to cry. She was bruised and bloody and Danny was filled with rage and desperation.
He wouldn’t be able to save her. Not before they shot the gun.
They had given him a deal.
He had taken it.
It had been simple. Just a trade. If he gave himself up, they would free her.
They had tossed him a similar collar along with a pair of ectoranium infused cuffs. He had snapped them on, grunting with a mix of pain and weakness as his powers were locked in his core.
They had an agent on him in an instant, shoving him to the ground and holding a gun against his head.
He didn’t resist.
“It’ll be okay.” He’d told her and she had sobbed.
But then the agents had smirked and the one holding Ellie had fired his gun.
Danny screamed, watching as green splattered the ground and her body slumped to the ground while the agents laughed.
“You didn’t really think we’d let some ectoscum go, did you?”
Danny struggled then but with the cuffs and his very core screaming, it was easy for the agents to knock him out and drag him into their van.
The next time he woke up he was being tossed in a cell. It was barely big enough to sit up in and only wide enough to curl up on his side.
It reminded him of a dog kennel.
The cuffs and collar were still on so he didn’t have access to his powers.
He wasn’t sure how long they left him there, the lights went out at one point, so Danny assumed a night had passed already.
His body ached from being unable to stretch and he wished he could phase out.
It had been several hours since the lights had come back on, and Danny was lying on his side when two agents walked in.
Danny stared at them. He wanted to quip, make a joke, but he was afraid that if he opened his mouth all that would come out is a sob. Ellie was gone.
The agents stopped in front of his cage and one held up a remote. While staring Danny in the eyes he pressed the button.
Electric shocks coursed through Danny’s body. His neck felt like it was on fire and he opened his mouth with a silent scream.
When they finally subsided, Danny found that he was on his side, panting and shaking with the aftershocks.
The agents were chuckling.
“Well that’s one way to tame it.” the agent with the remote said.
“I’ll take it from here Agent T.”
The agent sighed, before handing over the remote. “I’ll see you at lunch then, Agent E.”
When he had gone, the remaining agent, Agent E, turned to Danny.
“Nifty little tool, isn’t it Phantom?” he said, turning the remote over in his hand.
“I thought you believed ghosts couldn’t feel pain?” Danny rasped, his throat sore.
“Now Phantom, you and I both know that’s a lie.”
“Then why…”
The agent smirked. “Even the lowest of lifeforms  can feel pain. Honestly, it would be more of a shame if you couldn’t. It wouldn’t make any of this nearly as fun.”
“Screw–” Danny cut off with a scream. The agent had pressed the remote again.
“Now, now, Phantom, don’t make me punish you needlessly. We both know you’re in for enough pain as it is.”
Danny whimpered in pain, closing his eyes in shame.
The agent crouched by the cell.
“It’s alright, Phantom. I know you’re still learning. And I believe you can do better.”
Danny was trembling as they opened the cage, his body too weak to do anything as they dragged him out.
He put him in a smaller cage on wheels which he pushed out of the room.
Danny let his head fall against the side of the cage, his muscles still spasming.
When the cage stopped moving, Danny opened his eyes. But once what he was looking at registered, he jerked back hitting the back of the cage.
“Don’t make things more difficult than they have to be, Phantom.”
Danny’s breaths were coming quicker and quicker and he jerked back as the agents opened the cage.
Danny heard the man sigh and saw him take out the remote.
“No! Wait–” Danny started, but cut off as his body spasmed, his mouth opened but no sound came out. Darkness had started to cover Danny’s vision, when the pain stopped.
He couldn't move as hands reached in to pull him out.
He felt himself being laid on a table, his limbs stretched out and restrained. Another restraint on the table attached to the collar and another went around his waist.
His thoughts felt sluggish from the shocks and from the panic that had started from the moment he saw Ellie.
His breathing started to pick up again as he saw faces in doctor masks peering down at him. He knew they were talking but all he could hear through the ringing in his ears was a faint murmur.
This can’t be happening.
He can’t be–
This isn’t–
Danny trembles as they cut off his suit. As they poke and prod at him. Shining lights into his eyes. They attach some sort of suction cup thing near the center of his chest and Danny hears what sounds like a heart monitor except it seems to whir with slight upticks in pitch every now and then.
Is that his core?
He winces as they jab him with a needle. He looks to the side and sees they’re extracting blood, or at least what he considers blood in this form. He doesn’t actually have blood vessels so he’s not sure how that works.
They extract a lot and he’s feeling faint by the time they pull the needle out.
Danny feels floaty from the combination of blood loss, fear, and the electric shocks. So, it takes him a moment to see that there’s now a scientist standing over his arm with a scalpel. He tries to jerk away, but with the restraints there’s little he can do other than twitch.
Danny cries out as the scalpel bites into his flesh.
He’s been hurt plenty of times. But this deliberateness, this gradual movement of the blade, this is so much worse. Danny’s crying by the time the scientist pulls away, a chunk of flesh in his hand which he sets aside on a table before returning.
Danny’s face is soaked in tears and snot by the time they’re done. They’ve taken flesh from various parts of his body and everything hurts so much.
He wants to go home, wants a hug from his dad and his mom’s fudge. He wants Jazz’s concern and wants to hang out with Sam and Tucker.
And Ellie–
He wants to go home.
dp x dc Chronos part 5
Part 1 - Previous - Master list
Diana was furious.
She’d known her young uncle for only a handful of hours but here she was, ready to go to war for him. Perhaps that was what her grandfather had meant earlier, his words still ringing in her ears.
I have a task for you, Diana. One i do not think you will turn now but i’ll give you the illusion of choice.
Perhaps it was less an illusion and more her grandfather merely knowing ahead of time how she would react. If Danny was to be believed – and he did seem such a trustworthy boy – his Clockwork knew every path one could take.
She knew there were still questions to be asked, but Danny had been able to tell her a great deal before his eyes began to droop and she insisted he try to sleep. The curtains to the room had been left open and she watched as his eyes happily glazed over at the sight of open space before him. It had only taken minutes for him to fall asleep.
Now she had a lot of work to do and she planned to get as much done while Danny slept as she could.
She entered the conference room with a quick stride, many members already present for the meeting she had ordered via text. They’d learned that some equipment didn’t work well around Danny. Visuals were blurry at best and audio crackled into something indistinguishable. Diana had instead been texting information to Bruce and Kal to look into while she focused on the boy.
“Were you able to find anything?” She asked immediately, not elaborating on which fact she was talking about. She’d sent them so many little snippets that she didn’t really care where they started.
Batman just grunted, and despite wearing his cowl, she could see just how unhappy he was.
“You’re not going to like it, but you expected that.” Superman said, papers laid out in front of him. He wasn’t the only one doing his research.
Green Lantern and Flash were still there, the latter looking like he was having an existential crisis over the topic of ghosts.
Martian Manhunter had also arrived, his frown informing her that the others had caught him up on what had been happening.
“Can we confirm the truth as Danny has laid it out for us?” She asked, taking a seat.
“Oh, yeah.” Hal muttered, rubbing a hand down his face. “Constantine will arrive later, but he could confirm the new High King of the Infinite Realm went by Phantom. Never heard him sound so horrified as him learning that someone had punched a hole into another realm in their house though. Inter-dimensional war crimes on our end are stacking up.”
“Our end?” She asked.
“The GIW…” Bruce began, sounding a mixture of exhausted and livid. “Are completely out of their depth and did not have the authority to just name a species unidentified to the rest of us as non-sentient. If the Infinite Realm retaliates, and John thinks it’s a possibility, it won’t just be aimed at the GIW alone but the entire dimension. That makes this more of a mess for us to clean up than it already was.”
They’d already decided to help, that was what they did. But there was a difference in lending a hand and righting a wrong and taking responsibility for someone else’s fuck ups because they had to.
“Can we prove it?” Diana asked.
“Absolutely.” Kal nodded. “Honestly, for a government agency, their security is a joke. There was a backdoor already in place. We can ask Danny about that later.”
Diana nodded, certain the information would be good in his hands. She turned her attention back to Bruce. “The Fentons?”
There was a certain level of disgust that tried to choke her out in that situation. Danny had been so hesitant, the betrayal fresh and painful. She had lived in the World of Men for a long time now and it had as many delights as it did drawbacks, but to learn what Danny’s parents had attempted to do to him left her burning to seek them out herself.
His mother had lost her privilege to refer to herself as such.
She didn’t care what the circumstances were. Capture and torture with the intentions of vivisection was inexcusable. The target being a child made it all the more heinous. Diana knew Batman would understand without her saying a word.
“Run of the mill mad scientists. They might have been onto something once when it came to energy but their bias took over. Even if they had been correct about ecto-entities, their language is incredibly inappropriate. No licenced and competent science journal would be associated with that.” He stared at her unhappily. “They’re lunatics. The fact that their children grew up in their home is outrageous.” He hit a button on the remote and a location appeared on the computer screens.
A bricked house on a street corner, enormous Fenton Works sign taking up most of the front. It was an eyesore, but not as much as the sci-fi looking shuttle sticking out of the roof. The OHSA violations alone should have had the building condemned and there was no way permits had been granted for any of that construction.
It was a supervillain's dream and not the least bit subtle. It should have been a crime in itself for the town to allow it to remain in a residential area and was shocking that no calls to Child Protective Services had been made.
Yes, Danny was an exceptional being, but Diana understood now all the likely scenarios where he could have died in that house. Danny had called his death an accident, but she wasn’t so certain about that. “They were the ones to hurt him.” Diana said, hating how her throat was tight. She was already emotionally compromised.
“Yes, i know.”
Diana’s attention snapped back to him. “How?”
“Simple reasoning. They are unstable ghost hunters with questionable science. Danny was removed from his home for his safety. Chronos said he needed a guardian. That doesn’t paint a pretty picture.” Bruce muttered. “Either his guardians couldn’t care for him, or shouldn’t care for him.”
She felt her shoulders relax somewhat, knowing that such a logical conclusion should have occurred to her too. She really was worried about Danny’s recovery. “We can add it to the file i know you’ve created, but i’d prefer if no one asked him about that at this time. This last attack only happened several days ago and it is still fresh on his mind.”
Bruce’s eyes narrowed, always a hound when it came to sniffing out abused kids. “This last attack?”
“They’ve been after him for a while.” Diana hummed, though she’d only had a vague example or two since Danny hadn’t wanted to get into it. She couldn’t imagine how he’d just returned home every day to parents who tried to capture his other persona.
“We must factor in his identity.” Martian Manhunter approached them, having been listening. J’onn had been doing his own research the last several hours. He laid down a startlingly clear picture of Danny in his white haired ghost form. A print out of an Amity Park newspaper article.
“What is that?” Bruce frowned, sliding it closer to read.
“The hero of Amity Park. Phantom. The articles are biased and unfavorable, but that is not the current accepted public opinion. Phantom protects the living from ghosts. He also protects the ghosts from the ghost hunters.” J’onn explained, voice carefully neutral. “Phantom appearing other places, perhaps shouldn’t coincide with where Daniel Fenton ends up.”
“A name change could be warranted. If that’s what he wants.” Bruce adds.
J’onn gave a single nod. “It’s a great deal of pressure on one teenager's shoulders. Being a king of a realm on top of that…”
It was silently agreed upon that Danny deserved this break and Diana was going to get it for him.
“It was only a matter of time before something had to give.” Diana said, turning enough to speak to everyone in the room. “Well he won’t be dealing with all of that alone now. We start with dismantling the GIW, appealing the Anti-Ecto Acts, and smoothing over our relations with the Infinite Realm.”
“Only that much, huh?” Flash muttered, trying to wrap his head around the science of ghost hunting.
“Why not get some of the kids involved. Young Justice, maybe?” Hal was rubbing his eyes, not looking forward to the consequences of this mess. “Once he heals it might do him some good to be around others closer to his own age. People he wouldn’t need to hide half of himself from.”
When put like that, Diana could only agree.
“I’ll mention it to him.” “I’ll get the information i have to Lois.” Clark said, sliding his papers into a binder. “If public opinion of Phantom is already decent in Amity Park, then we’ll up the exposure to put pressure on our oblivious government.”
“I’ll take a few of the GIW facilities.” Bruce muttered, but he had that familiar tone that said he was about to let his children go buck wild. “A little recon…” he added vaguely.
Before anyone else could put in their own two cents, the sensors went off, exactly how they had before Chronos had arrived. A paranormal knock of sorts before the very air seemed to split in two, a glowing green portal building around it.
“Here we go again.” Barry muttered, each of them surrounding the portal as they’d done early for safety’s sake but they were less inclined to fight immediately.
As J’onn was seeing it for the first time, he remained near Diana, keenly watching the portal manifest. It wasn’t Chronos who stepped out though, it wasn’t human at all.
From the portal stepped a creature that Diana didn’t have the name for. Bipedal, humanoid, but beast like in appearance. Horns on his head and spikes from his tail made of ice were noticed secondary to his arm of ice that still encased his bones inside. His fur was white, his claws could easily kill and he was covered by a kilt and cape.
What gave Diana pause as the bag slung over one shoulder, the tell tale signs of a medical cross across the front.
“Who are you?” Superman asked, more polite than their earlier run in with her grandfather.
The creature, a ghost presumably, held himself rigid. He was doing a great deal to make himself appear smaller then he was but his gaze was assessing. He was ready to fight if necessary.
“I am here for His Majesty, the Great One.” Was his response.
Diana stepped forward, deciding this was exactly what she suspected. “I am Diana. Granddaughter of Chronos who Danny fondly calls Clockwork. You are Frostbite, come to check on Danny, yes?”
All of his attention was on her now, but he seemed to see what he wanted in her after locking eyes. “I am. Frostbite, Ruler of the Infinite Realm’s Far Frozen. I have come to see Our Savior the King, as his primary physician.”
“He’s a doctor.” Flash whispered.
“Fascinating.” J’onn muttered, sounding a little winded by whatever he was sensing. “He is who he claims.”
“I’m relieved.” Diana muttered, approaching him with a smile this time. “Please come with me and i will take you to Danny. I’m afraid we did what we could but his unique biology left us questioning our choices. He is resting in a private room.”
“Did something happen to setback his recovery?” Frostbite asked, serious over the care of his charge as he followed Wonder Woman out of the conference room without so much as a glance back at the other heros.
“Excitement, i believe.” Diana offered. “He may have been a little too excited to show off his alternate, living form and seemed to forget his condition.”
Frostbite actually snorted. “Sounds like him.”
“I did not realize how badly wounded he was. We had been talking about our arrangements and he was answering my questions about ghosts. He appeared sore, but fairly pleased to speak with me. Given what he had just been through…”
Frostbite grunted his agreement. “His heart is soft, but his will is unlike anything i have ever known. Many of us saw this tragedy coming, but he insisted on seeing it out for himself, hoping for a favorable ending.”
Diana cracked her knuckles out of habit, that anger still simmering. “He will be safe in my care, i assure you.”
“The Great One is the rightful King to our realm, but many forget he is still just a child.” Frostbite said, eyeing her even as she led him through the Watchtower.
“It is not something i am likely to forget.” Not after she’d seen how small he was in their medbay bed. “He’s resting but weak, you can help?”
“As long as he has not taken more damage, i’m sure i can.” Frostbite said, a gentleness to his voice as they stopped at Danny’s room. Diana went in first to prove the area was a safe one but that may not have mattered given how quickly Frostbite followed her.
He was at Danny’s bedside in an instant, having somehow moved passed her without knocking into her. He could have gone through her for all she knew. For all he seemed to be a hulking beast, Frostbite was nothing but gentle as he examined Danny. He looked over any and all work that had been done to Danny since his arrival, and checked the bandages across his torso. He went as far as to grab the clipboard on the foot of Danny’s bed to read, having no trouble understanding the medical jargon.
From his medical bag, he pulled out several small bottles, all of them growing a toxic green. Injections were given to the teenager, and it didn’t seem to matter that he was in his living, dark haired form.
“Has he explained to you what it means to be a halfa?” Frostbite finally asked, breaking the silence.
“Only in vague, teenager terms.” Diana said. She’d been quite sure that Danny’s flippant attitude was more a coping mechanism than anything.
Frostbite just hummed. “Then i will have to fill you in.”
