i wish we had alloaro representation in media. a charming character who fucks - both literally AND aesthetically. one that makes other characters go "wow! they're so cool and good in bed, but ultimately un-datable, because as soon as they sense any romantic intention on you, they flee" (kinda like lucifer morningstar from "lucifer". he's aroallo in my heart)

a character who's funny and has a horrifyingly 80's sense of fashion (they have a curly combed-out mullet and mismatched earrings. you'll find them at pride wearing a corn costume because it "matches the aroallo flag" and they're "being subtle") or one who's the embodiment of a 60's greaser (their motorcycle helmet is themed after the aro flag and the back of their leather jacket says "LOVELESS / LOVE LOSES") or one who's a girly fanfiction writer that has more ships than a star wars movie (their fics are muntifandom-ly famous and most their stuff is covered in yaoi/yuri patches and stickers. everyone thinks they're a hopeless romantic because of it, but that's exactly why they're so big on the fiction ≠ reality discourse) or...

anyone else, really. just ultimately a HUMAN who's casually aromantic. one who doesn't make it a parade but isn't subtle about it, either. will they hold other character's hands? maybe. kiss their cheek? perhaps. hang out with them, on picnics and walks along the river? can't see why not! but platonically. or maybe have them be genuinely romance-repulsed & not so eager to participate in anything socially perceived as romantic. that would also be amazing.

let them express themselves sexually! let them fuck. give them a..."fuckbuddy", if you must. or a best friend who's sexually involved with them - classic romcom material, i know - but without it being "complicated"; because there's no romance involved to complicate it.

give them funny scenes. another character tries to kiss their lips or ask them on a date? they laugh nervously, the scene cuts and we get a hilarious shot of them escaping through the bathroom window. or audibly saying "ew" and then regretting it. another character is struggling to write a romcom/romance book without it being corny? we get a scene where our character casually describes the most romantical (and, to them, unappealing) plot ever - because, much like aces acing the smut department, they're far from misunderstanding what is or isn't heartstopping for alloromantics - only to have the other character stare at them like "?????????? HELLO????". give us a scene of them being confused as to why their hookup is yelling at them for acting "so casual" and responding with a quotable shitty line ("just because we had sex last night i can't call you "bro"? / "what? expected me to marry you or something? get off my bed, it's 9AM" / "would you rather have me mad? sad? what's happening here. give me a hint")

but give them complicated scenes too. scenes portraying the loneliness that comes with being aromantic but not asexual, the lack of community. them talking about how hard it is to maintain sexual relationships just sexual. the painful "breakups" because one of their friends declared their undying love for them but they cannot possibly match that energy, even if they wanted to. have them weep because somehow that keeps happening. the unfairness in being accused of heartlessness and selfishness by other queers. the shame on being told they're fetishistic and the reason why queer men/women/people are seen as sex-crazed or impure.

3. I know there's an insane amount of spinoffs and side stories, so of them all, what do you think is a must-play for someone like me who wants to get more into the series? (I've only played most of tactics, and FF I Advance of all things)

oh goodness well, this probably won't be popular but since you asked... (under a read more because it's fucking long)

1.) as reductively as possible: too much of a focus on men. deeply misogynistic games. it feels like they're a response to the misogynistic backlash to ffxiii. yes ffxiii had plenty of problems but given the culture at the time (which obviously hasn't gotten much better) it kinda felt like a lot of people rejected it as soon as they saw a woman as the protag. the craziest part is she's basically just cloud post transition but mysteriously people think all those traits on a woman are irritating or cringe.

anyway, this is obviously just my own personal feeling but it feels like they went the opposite direction and decided there should be less women going forward. ffxiv is infamous for killing every important female character and ffxv is just a yaoi road trip with minimal female involvement. you'd certainly think there were no women in the game based on the fan art and, unsurprisingly, people loved that. i mean consider the reaction to ffx-2 vs. ffxv. they're both obviously very different games in a lot of ways but one of them is about boys going on an adventure together and the other is about girls doing the same. one of them is considered embarrassing and got tons of backlash from fans contemporarily for being too girly and the other was a huge hit with fans and loved even with its flaws. it's worth noting ffxv was also originally a ffxiii spinoff that became it's own thing so. that's also information.

ffxvi is even more egregious in some ways but ill admit a lot of those are mostly personal. it's fucking ugly and dull and i would not know it's a final fantasy game if it weren't for the ill fitting chocobos in some trailers. i know it's ironic for me to say that considering i praised ffix for looking unlike any other ff game but they went in the wrong direction. it's clearly inspired by prestige western fantasy slop like GoT and the witcher and unfortunately those are the exact things i do not want in fantasy. some people like that and that's fine but it's clearly not for me.

anyway, iirc the writers from ffxiv worked on this and from what ive seen it shows in the worst ways. these are the writers who couldn't introduce a woman without killing her off so already off to a bad start but. it's punching above its weight class. it's trying so hard to be a epic grizzly dark fantasy but it just falls so flat. they say fuck all the time in the same way that one dmc game everyone hated did. im sure there's some amount of nuance that gets lost in translation but the only woman in the amount of the game i saw was, quite literally, an evil screeching harpy manipulator. which is not like, something im against obviously as a lover of women but for that to be the only woman in the first like. 10+ hours of the game? come the fuck on. maybe it gets better i honestly don't know. and i don't think i ever will because what i saw of that game was so immensely disappointing that im not sure ill ever bother.

i have plenty more i could say about both games but ive said soooo much already and honestly i can't imagine the misogyny website would particularly enjoy even more of my "misandry" lmfao. in short:

2.) i really enjoy the older 2D final fantasies but ive only really played a chunk of ffvi and the original ff. some day ill definitely give them a go! i feel like the ff fan equivalent of a zoomer for loving almost everything from ffvi onwards and not having much to say about the older ones but. the biggest barrier for me is the same one i have with the older dragon quests. they're not particularly hard or anything but they expect you to grind. a whole lot. if i was a kid and my only game was ffiii id be on that grind but it's a bit harder as an adult who can like. just do anything else. i even like grinding and getting into that flow state but i haven't been as much in the mood for it these days, or if i have it's been for different games. ill definitely get around to them eventually though. young immortal mindset as ive said before. watching my gf try and play through them did sort of make me want to give it a spin even with her furping.

3.) honestly you're already off to a good start! tactics is well beloved for a reason and it's probably the most recommended spinoff. id also highly recommend tactics advance. it's not as like, dark and serious as tactics but the style and gameplay and story are all executed nearly flawlessly. it's a favourite of our beloved princess nettlebloom and that's reason enough! definitely finish tactics first though. hmm... if you play ffxii and also enjoyed tactics advance then give FFXII: revenant wings a try! it's a weird RTS type game but it's in the style of tactics advance and very cute. definitely not for everyone though.

it's really far from essential but if you can somehow manage to organise enough people for it i highly recommend giving crystal chronicles a try. it's really fun with other people and it's close to ffix stylistically so im a big fan. maybe try dissidia if you want a silly fighting game? kebs seemed to enjoy stranger of paradise quite a bit and it seems like mindless action game fun so maybe give that a look if it interests you. honestly the spin-offs cover such a wide range of genre and quality that it's almost hard to have cohesive opinions on them lol. but i hope that helps in any way!

Also by the way this is supposed to be Ganymede if you've never heard of him. Basically the gist of his kidnapping across the various versions is that he was a son of Tros (A ruler or Troy). He was tending to his sheep when all the sudden Zeus as and eagle OR Zeus' eagle (Depending on the version) kidnap him. Why you might be saying? Well duh it's 'cause this immortal 1000+ year old man thought he was the most handsome mortal ever. Then Zeus basically said "Well you're really hot and handsome and I love you so you can be our cup bearer instead of Hebe (Goddess of Youth) because, well, like I said you're really hot." For all my non-ace's in the audience I tried to find an attractive depiction of him and I think this one might be it but most of the time he just looks like this...

Ganymede and Zeus' relationship as stated a bit above is ....weird to say that least. Right? If you didn't say yes you've been reading way to much old men Yaoi. Well unfortunately this was a very common practice primarily in Japan (Specifically amoung Samurai) and ancient Greece. This practice was called Pederasty. Which was when a young man and an older man well... they did it (Dear all fanfiction writers this is weird don't write old men yaoi about this) I believe that this tradition comes from this so like Zeus didn't even know about this process and just said it was ok.

she is the richest woman in piltover who left her family because she didn't agree with the way they did things (conquering and murdering). she sponsors jayce and viktor, and courts jayce, which makes people upset because, you know, jayvik. she and viktor are CANONICALLY parallels with much of their imagery mirroring the other's and they are literally the same height. and people are so weird and misogynist and racist about her. they argue she is manipulating jayce and doesn't actually love him. i am cognitively disabled and cannot explain things well, but, she is so fucking shouldered

Black woman who has a romantic arc with one of the main characters Jayce. Jayce has a best friend called Viktor and their relationship is pretty important plot wise, shown as a direct contrast to his relationship with Mel even though only one is canonically sexual/romantic. So naturally fandom as the transformative safe haven it is villainized Mel horribly coming up with theories about how instead of being a complex morally grey character she's actually evil and just wants to seduce Jayce for Evil Reasons. Since they couldn't use her as a supportive female friend with no personality, others just ignored her existence entirely or acted like Jayce would ditch her for Viktor. Majority of m/m shippers will reduce her down to her relationship with Jayce and an obstacle in the way of JayVik, ironically writing her as a far worse and less complex version of the character we get on screen. The misogyny reeks and combined with the racism? It's a pretty bad case. Only slightly mitigated due to the fact that the main characters of the show are women (and the lead is a lesbian) so thankfully the male focus of fandom is lessened as opposed to filling almost every inch. Still awful to try and search for good Mel content, godspeed girlies with taste.

She's one of the most interesting characters on the show, a rich politician, smart and beautiful and has a really complicated and intriguing relationship with the city's golden boy inventor. unfortunately golden boy has a sickly twink science partner so she gets sidetracked SO BAD

Juno

She's honestly a way deeper character than people give her credit for, her arc is that of acceptance and being true to your heart despite what society thinks of you. Oh yeah and for the record she doesn't stand in the way of Lougosi because of her crush on Legoshi because I honestly think that she was more in love with the idea of being in a same species relationship than she was with Legoshi himself. I'm talking about the part where she falls for Louis and struggles with the knowledge that if she actually pursues him she's gonna be seen as a freak and never reach the social status she strives for. There's a lot to discuss with her character arc but NOOOO let's all just laugh at how she gets no bitches because Beastars fans see Juno as a joke. (I'm not mad I'm not mad it's fine it's fine)

shes cool but she doesnt have good chemistry with her canon love interest and therefore the fandom chalks her up to having no personality whatsoever. they see her as either an obstacle or a sex object basically

Geno (age 4000+???), Stars in my AU physically cant be sexed and align to genders based on their interactions with modern society and interactions with other stars based on who gendered themselves on THEIR exposure to the mortal world. He presented himself as masculine, which was carried over into a physical presence when Starlow made him human based on her own personal love for yaoi media. Once he discovered sexuality as a human, he fell into pansexual territory, dominantly falling in love with peach but also having complex feelings for Kamek since they dated decades ago and all that missed opportunity of being physical is creeping up on him. Outside of those two, he has no real attraction preference.

Kamek (age 140) is bisexual/gender nonconforming. Before becoming Bowser’s caretaker and during his temporary retirement, he’s had a lot of exposure to the Beanbean kingdom where at least half the Beanish population is gender nonconforming. It’s the norm here and nobody even labels it “gender nonconforming”. Any beanish that was a girly girl or manly man would simply boast it, but anyone that presented anywhere in between was normal. He started questioning his gender when disguising himself as peach, but just accepted himself as nonconforming and made himself more and more flamboyant whenever away from his koopa troop duties. Currently he is with Naval Piranha, but also returns those complex feelings Geno has on him and can’t quite figure out if he still loves Geno in some way (they argue and insult each other a lot), or if they’re making up for their relationship 50-60 years ago not being mutually sexual due to the physical limitations of Geno’s first inanimate object possessions. Other past relationships include Lima, Harhall, possibly Lakitu from Tetris Attack, had a one-shot date with Gadd and crushed on Toadsworth… and the list expands as i keep writing this guy.

Lady Lima (277), bisexual girly. Had a relationship with Cackletta, ditched her to be with Kamek who came in like Howl from Howl’s moving castle, then dumped him and devoted her life thereafter to make both Cacky and Kamek miserable whenever she wasn’t on shift. Currently in a stable long distance relationship with Toadsworth, so long as her past is buried under a rug.

Fawful (18), I was playing with the idea of him being transmasc, but it’ll conflict with ifool’s prologue. Regardless, he presented masculine since he was a child. He’s otherwise aroace with his asexuality being of the absolute sex-repulsed kind. I have an OC ship for him that i wanna tap into in future comics as homage to my friends in the fawful fandom, and also, to bring to the table that aroace relationships can actually exist Fawful also has a backstory of being a prank-wished stork child that Geno brought to the lives of Kamek and Lima when he took their sarcastic wishes literal during a debate on the existence of storks, so Fawful kind of has a mom and two dads here, but nobody’s ever gonna talk about it Lima simply does not want to acknowledge that babies come from the stork despite literally getting one

Mallow (age 23 in the comic), still figuring himself out but is in a happy and healthy relationship with Gaz (20). He sees himself with a bit of effeminate charm whereas Gaz presents a bit more masculine, but they’re both cis dudes

Gaz, absolutely gay, both in happiness and sexuality

Naval Piranha (50s), another aroace, but not sex-repulsed. She just wants to be around Kamek and spend all her time with him. It wouldn’t matter what gender or anything he is. She’s just glued to him and making it work out. She knows his past relationships and is fine with Kamek being with others- so long as she’s also friends with them. Technically, she does get on friendly terms with Geno since ifool, but doesn’t understand why kamek, peach and others find him so “hot and sexy” as a human as Naval personally finds him aesthetically boring

Gender Headcanon: Trans man Starlo all the way!

A ship I have with said character: Staroba has pretty much always been one of my top 5 favorite UTY ships and that remains. I always have a bit of a soft spot for childhood friend romances, and the idea of Starlo and Ceroba understanding eachother and finally admitting their feelings for one another is just...mwah! Chef's kiss! Sometimes I self-insert myself in an OT3 with them, but I won't go there.

A BROTP I have with said character: I really love his dynamic with the Feisty Four. With their banter and shenanigans, and a pretty realistic falling out/getting back together, too! It's hard to explain, but I just really like Starlo's relationship with his pose.

A NOTP I have with said character: Ho boy, this is gonna piss a lot of people off...I am not a fan of Starlo x Dalv and it's grown stale over time for me. Before you crucify me, just note I am a man who's in a relationship with another man and Corn Yaoi just doesn't do it for me. I can get the appeal, but it just doesn't do it for me. Doesn't help that the ship tends to hold some of Ceroba's most vicious haters. Besides, I always saw Dalv as AroAce, so it clashes with my own headcanon on the guy. I can see the appeal if you like it, but I'm sorry, it just doesn't do it for me. I already removed the pairing from my SequenceShift AU for the reasons above.

A random headcanon: I get he's supposed to be, well...a star, but I like imagining a few reptilian traits on Starlo, mainly things such as a tail with a star on the end of it (give both him and Ceroba tails, dammit!) and scales. To my boyfriend and I, his patterns really reminded us of a desert collared lizard. No biggie if you don't see it the same way tho.

General Opinion over said character: Starlo is probably my second favorite character in the game behind the Roba herself and I really love him...but good fuckin lord, the fandom grossly misinterprets him as a character! Sorry girlies, but that is not just some silly, sexy Cowboy LARPer or whatnot. That is a man with some genuine issues that's driven him into being a reckless jerk, and him coming to terms with that is literally the best part about him! Guess that's the side effect of being a Tumblr Sexyman, ain't it? First Sans and now him. Fandom BS aside tho, he's still a great character.

The first episode of Kokuyo is the only one that makes sense and even then, I'd have picked one from later in the arc when Mukuro is showing off. This is a Fan Disc so the audience is made clear in the title alone; this is not intended as an introduction to the series and so why they avoided spoilers and chose such milk toast eps is beyond me.

Also, why is it pronounced Von-go-lay instead of Von-go-lah?!?!

VAs I thought were okay: Lambo, Reborn, Ryohei(ish), most side or minor characters, Mukuro (though why no attempt at the laugh?!), and Yamamoto(ish). I would prefer more gravel in Ryohei's voice and I didn't hear Yamamoto's enough to make any real determination.

Tsuna's VA left a lot to be desired. She was good at his screaming and freaking out but the general husky whisper performance was not good meaning his normal speech and especially his dying will voice were very flat.

I literally laughed out loud when Hibari spoke. I get they wanted to match him with a deeper voice per the original but... no. Wow, no. The cadence is off, the emotion--the VA is good but not for this character. At times he was fine but "I will devour you" instead of "I will bite you to death" also made me laugh. Baby boy walking up to Mukuro lounging on his gross couch with a line like that is like.... read some yaoi before you make a change like that, translators. Hibari is not there to offer Mukuro a good time, and yet that line...

Gokudera I was always going to be very picky about and I was definitely disappointed. Oddly enough, the performance in ep 77 was not bad--much more gravely and what I would expect. His ep 20 performance is nasally and just not what I want from our pack-a-day basketcase. This idiot is all about putting forth a tough exterior from his dress aesthetic to his words and sound of his voice (when interacting with an enemy especially). It was just a miss, though ep 77 did make me think the VA could be a passable Gokudera if he had a better understanding of the character. Also? Juudaime was translated to Decimo and that made me so incredibly happy. I did not want it to be Tenth if they had to change it at all.

Overall, not terrible but what a missed opportunity! The episodes they chose are just not great. Gonna be honest: I did not even watch episode 1 because I don't want to watch it; I don't need to when all the good stuff comes later. I'm a manga girly; I have seen some of the anime, not even close to all, but certainly enough to know there are far better ones to have chosen for a disc specifically released for fans of the series. I love the songs from the series and Rebocons so I'm very familiar with the original voice cast, but also being a fan of the stage plays, I would say I have realistic expectations for how others have embodied the characters in their vocal performances. In a few very notable cases, this is a miss.

If Tsuna's performance had been good, this could have been a low A grade dub, but when your main sounds like the VA is not speaking in a comfortable range and is losing their ability to properly emote because of it while surrounded by people who are giving lively performances in the same scene, it's a C. Do not want more of this. Will pop in for a laugh now and then but otherwise simply a collectors item.

At the moment it's my own girlie Alicia Swann. TL;DR: She pissed off Lex Luthor real bad, and sold herself to the Penguin so she wouldn't turn up dead in a ditch somewhere. (Don't feel bad for her, it was her idea and she kind of sucks as a person anyway lmao. 💕) I haven't gotten a good look at many others yet (aside from my lovely mutual @corrodeheavenn who per usual has too many ocs to name that I adore). I just love OCs. Gimme an OC and I'll love them.

Jules Verne if we're talking fiction and not fanfiction lmao. I don't usually stick to particular authors too much but Verne's work is consistently enjoyable to me.

As for fanfiction, my faves from the Sonic fandom know who they are (my lovely mutuals I still chat with), but I'm open to recommendations for Batman/DC, as last time I was poking around in their fanfics FFN was still the place for fanfics. I was recommended a Batjokes one I still need to read. (Brief soapbox intermission: I have messy feelings about Batjokes... And many Joker ships for that matter. I 1000% see where we're coming from but like... I don't want it to ever end in a relationship, or even hate fucking. Poisoning your bitter foe with your own diseased blood and forcing them to go make the cure so you both don't die is yaoi to me lmao. Loona x Tex (and/or Queen Bee) for the bingo?

This is a shock to you all, but honestly I kind of like the idea of them being a poly ship.

Mainly, because in a way Isee potential with these 3 together.

Now I know Bee and Loona had a thought start but honestly, I really want to see Bee to be more reoccurring than a celebrity guest star. I think just like Tex, she could bring the best out of Loona and help her gain more confidence within herself.

Tex was pretty much like this with Loona being very patient with her and understanding, but also can see she’s been struggling with personal issues. And honestly, Bee was very nice to her and genuinely seemed interested to get to know her better. (Literally it seemed like she was flirting with her and my sapphic as was all 💖💖💖)

I know some people love Tex with Loona or Tex and Bee, but to me, why not they just be happy with another

I’m sure Bee and Loona would have a similar dynamic like Enid and Wednesday (another favorite sapphic ship I love) since it falls under the girly extroverted party girl with the introverted alternative chick. Plus I can imagine possible scenarios maybe they come to understanding and talk about Vortex.

And seeing Vortex really getting along or possibly having an interest in another, he would he happy and supportive for the both of them.

Too bad Viv is too much of a braindead yaoi fangirl who focuses on her fushoji fantasies than actually gives us nice sapphic and possible poly representation. (Plus her problematic habit of always putting women against each other… like c’mon that’s so 2000s quit that internalized misogyny bullshit in your writing )

That’s why I’m my AU, I’m gonna put Loona together with these two :) I legit think this can help flesh Loona out more as a character by having these two along with Octavia. she is the richest woman in piltover who left her family because she didn't agree with the way they did things (conquering and murdering). she sponsors jayce and viktor, and courts jayce, which makes people upset because, you know, jayvik. she and viktor are CANONICALLY parallels with much of their imagery mirroring the other's and they are literally the same height. and people are so weird and misogynist and racist about her. they argue she is manipulating jayce and doesn't actually love him. i am cognitively disabled and cannot explain things well, but, she is so fucking shouldered

Black woman who has a romantic arc with one of the main characters Jayce. Jayce has a best friend called Viktor and their relationship is pretty important plot wise, shown as a direct contrast to his relationship with Mel even though only one is canonically sexual/romantic. So naturally fandom as the transformative safe haven it is villainized Mel horribly coming up with theories about how instead of being a complex morally grey character she's actually evil and just wants to seduce Jayce for Evil Reasons. Since they couldn't use her as a supportive female friend with no personality, others just ignored her existence entirely or acted like Jayce would ditch her for Viktor. Majority of m/m shippers will reduce her down to her relationship with Jayce and an obstacle in the way of JayVik, ironically writing her as a far worse and less complex version of the character we get on screen. The misogyny reeks and combined with the racism? It's a pretty bad case. Only slightly mitigated due to the fact that the main characters of the show are women (and the lead is a lesbian) so thankfully the male focus of fandom is lessened as opposed to filling almost every inch. Still awful to try and search for good Mel content, godspeed girlies with taste.

She's one of the most interesting characters on the show, a rich politician, smart and beautiful and has a really complicated and intriguing relationship with the city's golden boy inventor. unfortunately golden boy has a sickly twink science partner so she gets sidetracked SO BAD

Nyota Uhura

She's Spock's canon partner in AOS, and I get it because they're not a great couple, but she gets villianized in fic so much. They constantly make her an asshole (which totally has nothing to do with her being black /sarcasm) and abusive just for the crime of dating a man headcanoned as gay. And I mean, I think Spock is gay and her being a love interest was unnecessary but still! She's cool!

Oh my god so in the Star Trek reboot she’s Spock’s girlfriend and the fandom has no idea what to do with her??? Like she is ALWAYS either such a bitch or like the mom friend? And there is so much more to her character than that? But they always break down her character AND find a quick and easy way to break up her and Spock. I’m not even mad at that but at least treat their relationship with some weight instead of just being like ‘it never mattered’. People can love multiple people throughout the course of their lives. You know that right? Just because you loved someone before doesn’t make your new love any less special. And even headcanoning Spock as gay… you realize he doesn’t need to be attracted to Uhura for their relationship to have mattered, right? Even if he confused friendship for romantic attraction, him feeling such strong friendship and openly expressing it is so monumental for him!!! 

she's dating Spock, who people ship with Kirk, so fans have decided that it's horrible writing and "really, they're just defending her, the movies turned her into just a love interests," which is not at all true. The movies do so much more for her to the point that the fans who have only seen the movies think that the main characters are Kirk, Spock, and Uhura instead of the Kirk, Spock, McCoy of the original series. Also having a black women being shown as being desired and loved in mainstream media, particularly by one of the most popular characters of all time, is a good thing, not making her "just a love interest"

It’s not really that he wasn’t able, it’s just that he was…impatient and also very jealous of Walt Disney’s success (as were many others in the animation industry at the time). Bendy came around only a couple years after Mickey, but Joey didn’t want to wait for Bendy to become even more famous than Mickey already was through the usual means so he used…unorthodox methods to get ahead

As for canon vs the FTL AU…remember how I established that before Mickey and Minnie got together, Felix was Mickey’s first love? Bendy was his second; at first he was convinced by Joey to get close to Mickey to sabotage him + steal Disney secrets or whatever, but Bendy got too close to him and…well…it didn’t end well for either of them when the truth eventually came to light. AFTER that, Joey’s satanic shenanigans came to bite him in the ass and the studio went to hell, with Bendy, his pals and the infected studio staff becoming trapped underneath the studio not unlike before the events of the first game.

Years later (around the time the actual BATIM game releases irl lmao), Bendy manages to break free, only to find out the world he knew has changed and he was presumed to be forgotten (except that, since he was brought to life by satanic magic, the rules that apply to Toons don’t apply to him so he hasn’t deteriorated like Forgotten Toons do). He still needs to save Boris and Alice and stop whatever bullshit Joey and his Ink Machine wrought, so he’s gonna need help…and the only person he can think of is his ex boyfriend who pretty much wishes he had stayed dead 😬 (doomed yaoi girlies come get y’all’s juice)

This part, as you can see, is VERY self indulgent and still under construction. For instance, I’m debating on whether I should keep him as Mickey’s ex or to make him Minnie’s, to balance things out (the doomed yaoi compels me, though). Oh, and Dark Revival isn’t canon to this AU so please don’t ask me about Audrey. Sorry

How het are Horikashi?

Not to co-op this post, but while I love this table, I ship Horikashi as a het couple. But at the same time, I don’t want to do, like, bi erasure or anything. So, here’s my personal take on this couple’s gender and sexual identities:

Hori is . . . coded as very cis. He actively gets mad when Kashima suggests he plays a princess or gives him women’s clothing. He does have a moment when he considers applying female makeup after Rei asks if he’s good at wearing female clothing, but then he tells himself “no.” Unfortunately, Hori’s a bit gender fluid-phobic. This is something he could overcome, seeing that he’s ok with acting as a female in read-through or as a sub, and Tsubaki-sensei confirmed that if Kashima gave an ultimatum for Hori to play a princess in order for her to stay in the drama club, he absolutely would, but his knee-jerk reaction is to present as masculine. This is probably why he’s so sensitive about his height (since males are usually taller than females) and looking young (since maturity is more valued for men than for women). He also seemed to get worked up in the omake of the sleepover at Nozaki’s when Wakamatsu said he was the strongest one and would carry Nozaki. He also has a lot of stereotypical male traits, among them being in charge, working with tools, being good at math and physics, anger, and violence.

Kashima, on the other hand, is a good example of being nonbinary. There have been multiple references to this, from the time Mikoshiba thought she might be one of those tomboys who secretly longs to be girly (cue Kashima embracing her sickness-induced low-pitched voice by wearing pants) to the time that Mikoshiba asked her to dress up as a girl. But I don’t see Kashima as trans, since when Mikoshiba asked her to dress up as a girl, she pointed out that she wears a skirt and that she’s had long hair before. She’s comfortable going swimsuit/underwear shopping with Sakura and Seo, and she sees no problem with sleeping in a boy’s room during the summer drama club trip. She’s very secure as either gender, and probably does view gender as performative.

Hori is . . . totally ok with this. In fact, early on it’s implied that Hori primarily thinks of Kashima as a guy and has to remind himself (when he picks her up, when she asks which skirt he prefers). he doesn’t usually seem jealous of the girls surrounding Kashima as long as they’re not causing trouble, even admiring Kashima’s mojo when they’re at the pool.

But even if Hori sometimes thinks of Kashima as a guy, can they be a yaoi couple? Because that would mean that Hori takes on some sort of gay role. I’m not too familiar with the seme and uke roles, but a quick skim of TVtropes makes me think Hori would be the seme, despite being shorter, just because he is the more dominant/controlling one in the relationship. Even in terms of looks, though Hori’s not supposed to be good looking, he still presents as more masculine than the androgynous, beautiful Kashima. Anyway, in real life there aren’t big distinctions between a gay couple. The real issue is whether or not Hori is turned on by guys. And this is . . . very ambiguous, because he loves Kashima’s face and loves it when Kashima’s a prince, but in an ambiguously sexual way, since canonically it’s probably just . . . doting on a talented kouhai. If Kashima actually were a guy, then maybe Hori could be construed as bi, since he could just be construed as Kashima-sexual.

Otherwise, Hori is coded as straight-up heterosexual. He likes ladies’ legs. Contrast Wakamatsu, who is probably demisexual, considering he has no interest in breasts, or Nozaki, who seems practically asexual. Mikoshiba is supposedly the most straight of them all, but like Hori, is one-half of a potential queer couple.

So what does Kashima think of Hori’s gender? She actually comes off as disturbed whenever she discovers Hori participating in non-masculine activities, like reading shoujo manga or building dollhouse furniture. However, she embraces Hori’s supposed interests because she’s an ally! What does Kashima think of Hori’s sexuality? This is hard to parse, because Kashima’s super competitive, and her main competitors are Nozaki in general and Mikoshiba that one time Mikoshiba came to act. When Sakura told her that Hori liked her legs, she did not seem to comprehend that that could be sexual at all. So Kashima . . . doesn’t think of Hori having any sexuality. He’s like a parent (father or mother-in-law) to her.

What does Hori think of Kashima’s sexuality? He knows that she likes girls, and acknowledges that Kashima is a flirt, even saying that he wouldn’t want to introduce Kashima to his girlfriend in case Kashima stole that girlfriend. Later on, he talks about how if his girlfriend of 6 years was taken by Kashima, it would make sense. He’s proud of Kashima’s ability to attract girls and when, under hypnosis, Kashima said that she flirted with girls to make Hori jealous he bluntly said that Kashima would never say something like that.

So is Kashima a lesbian? I mean, yeah. The signs are all there. Could she be bisexual? Maybe. Ultimately, if she ended up liking guys, it would just be because she’s Hori-sexual.

Conclusion: Hori is cis and het and all-around straight, but if Kashima decided to become a guy, he could become gay or maybe even trans to be with her. Kashima is a nonbinary lesbian, but might be bi for Hori.

Now why isn’t there more fanfiction with Hori angsting over how he’s in love with a lesbian?
