Guys is this a scam?? Or do they genuinely think this is a good business model??
Or do they suck that badly at conversation I guess
The messages:
[random name as url, account is empty and the pfp is some girl seen from behind.]
The name starts with a C so that shall be their name here:
Followed you 2 days ago
(usually when someone follows my main acc they get in my notifs by liking/rbing something recent or my pinned so I remember their existence, C, other than following me, did not interact in the slightest)
C: Hiya!
C: How's everything going with you?
Me: Hi? I'm good but who are you?
C: Actually I like your pfp thats why I message you
Me: Oh, well ty!
(i made the pfp on my main :] )
C: ofc
C: Well do you play video games?
(why are you trying to start a conversation as if we were trying to find things in common, if you really just messaged me about a pfp either that's it end of convo or ask a question like, idk, where'd you find it or something)
Me: Not really, sorry
C: Ahh Alright
C: Well do you have any favorite charecter? (ouch the spelling)
Me: Depends what media but yeah! Do you know the Enchanted Forest Chronicles?
(amazing books, love 'em)
C: Let me check
C: I saw this charecter?
C: Charecter*
(there is no difference between those words and that is haunting me now)
Me: If there's a pic I'm afraid I can't see it?
C: Alright
C: Well do you like digital artwork?
(what is this way of making conversation)
Me: Depends on the style but yeah it's both fun to look at and do!
C: Actually I am an artist and I can do paid commission
(commisionS please 😭 - that's not that bothering usually it's just since I'm typing it out that it's bothering me lol)
(this is the point where I was like ... Is this supposed to be a good way to find customers???)
C: Can I show you my portfolio?
Me: If you want me to be able to actually commission anything you'd have to wait a few years but sure go for it!
(dude /gn I can't pay but yeah show me your art!!! <- applicable to anyone btw, i love seeing people's art)
C: Wdym?
Me: I'm a minor and have no way of paying online?
(My parents are already sort of skeptical of etsy, and they're paying for me to go to art school next year; if I asked to buy an artist's merch they'd already be skeptical but asking to buy someone's art would just get me a "can't you just make it yourself?")
C: Can you use your parents account?
(Just realized it's not even 'can you ask your parents' but 'can you use their account'. I'm probably reading too much into this, but no i'm not going to use my parents' credit cards online without telling them??)
Me: Nope
Me: That's kinda part of the "I can't pay online" thing
And then i came here lol
I'd like to point out that I love meeting new people on here, and talking about stuff we both like, especially art! But already getting messages from empty tumblrs is weird, but then they bring up after only a few messages "hey you can pay me for this thing btw" and idk what this is 😭

hey! im an artist who's thinking of starting commisions, but i don't have a way to accept money yet and i have a few questions because i don't know where to start. I'd really appreciate if any of these could be answered because I'm very nervous about going into this without knowing anything :]
where's the best place to do them?
how would i accept money as a european?
i'm well aware that tumblr isn't very good in terms of sharing art. and twitter is... twitter. so what would be the most optimal place to do commissions? I'm fairly unknown, so this is from the perspective of someone who's just starting.
(I'm thinking of kofi btw)
I'm from Ireland, so I can only accept € euro instead of $ USD or other currencies. do money transfer apps convert them automatically for me, or will i genuinely just have to accept only european customers?
what are the best prices?
i've heard before that valuing your own art can sometimes be biased, and that goes both ways. would it be overpriced to ask for about €50 for a fully shaded fullbody? what are usual prices? I'm a furry artist, so there's extra detail to account for.
when would i ask the customer for money?
I usually see that artists will ask you for the money after they've sent you the sketch. is this optimal? I've only ever done one commission in my life and it was for a friend, so they obviously already trusted me. do you just have to entirely rely on trust..?
and, if there are any extra considerations, please do let me know! I'm aware of the basics, like a commission sheet, etc., but I'm otherwise really uneducated. like i said, I'd REALLY appreciate answers on this because I'm not really sure where else to ask. thanks <3

MSA: ‘Too Late’ fanfic edition.
A gift fic for @loveallthing. Hey, I love your art, thanks for being awesome :). This fic is based on this work. Hope you like it.
Summary: Things don’t work out too well for anyone (Hellbent AU).
.
“Get the hell away from Arthur.  YOU BASTARD!”
Vivi’s yell pierces the silence, drawing his attention. In amongst finding Lewis, falling onto a stone spike, and excruciating pain, he’s forgotten all about her. There is the sound of footsteps rushing nearby. He tries to blink or move but finds the action difficult. The space around him is a dense black, observing his vision.
Maybe, for a second, a flash of purple breaks through the endless dark. When he concentrates, he can feel vibrations. A second later he hears Vivi gasp in shock.
“No. No. Nononono.”
“NO!”
The yelling transitions from distressed to angry. Vivi is mad. Really mad. He should do something about that and let her know he’s okay. Only he isn’t okay. How could he be? That last thing he remembers is choking on his own blood. A spike wedged into his lower abdomen. Lewis standing over him, watching.
“You’ll pay for this!!”
Arthur’s never heard Vivi scream like that. Pure rage. He tries again to move, but everything is heavy, like his body asleep even when his mind is buzzing. Air is displaced nearby. Metal impacts metal, accompanied by more vibrations. Those footsteps grow fainter and further away.
“That’s right! You better run because I’M COMING FOR YOU!”
Vivi’s voice is far off now, only audible due to its volume. When Arthur concentrates, he thinks he can hear Lewis’s lower tone. All other sound fades. He needs to move. He needs to speak to Lewis. To explain himself. To apologies for…whatever he had done to deserve being skewered at the bottom of a cliff. To find out why.
Above him, as if in response to his new resolve, the darkness shimmers. The black expanse shifts from to grey and then lightens. It takes him second to realize that his eyes are open and he is staring up at the grey metal interior of a rectangular-shaped space.  He pushes, trying to sit up, struggling against the impossible weight holding him down. The more he struggles, the heavier the weight becomes, pulling him back.
No! He is not going to let himself be dragged away. Not yet! A horrible ripping sensation, like paper shredding, drowns out all other stimuli. Pain shoots up through his chest, akin but also different to the visceral feeling of landing on the spike. And, finally, Arthur sits up.
Reality materialises around him, solid, replacing the last vestiges of darkness with dim moonlight. He is sitting in a metal rectangle, resembling the bed of a semi-trailer. Out one end, Arthur can see the sky, moon, stars and the tips of desert cactus. One thing for sure is that this isn’t the purple cave. There are no spikes anywhere. No Lewis either for that matter. Where is Lewis? How is Arthur alive?
Troubled, Arthur rises into a standing position, scanning for answers. Dredd. The emotion is strong and vice-like. Something’s wrong. When he tries to move, he feels oddly uncoordinated and weightless. Almost like he’s floating.
He looks down at his legs.
He immediately wishes he hadn’t because he catches sight of the orange, yellow and red mess at his feet. Below him is…himself. Dead. Definitely dead. Dead and bleeding all over the metallic ground. Oh…So he hadn’t survived after all…White noise fills his head, blanking out his thoughts. This can’t be right. This can't be real. A high-pitched whine echoes, bouncing along the metal walls, and it takes Arthur a second to realise it’s him making the noise. Quickly, he backs away in horror, trying to put some distance between him and the messy scene.
/Arthur?/
The voice is deep, reverberating in his skull, snapping his attention up. He twists around, flinching to the side, raising a hand to cover his head. Blocking the entrance to the trailer is a large black and white fox. Its many tails fill the small opening, swaying back and forth in time to some unheard rhythm. Mystery. That’s Mystery. Arthur’s only seen this form once before now, and that hadn't exactly been a fun night either.
/Oh, Arthur. Do not be afraid./
The fox steps forward cautiously, head low. The tails still, dropping so they don’t look nearly as threatening as they could have. Trapped between Mystery and his own dead body, Arthur has nowhere to retreat to.
“What’s happening?” He asks instead, inching up along the wall. The action takes him closer to Mystery, but, right now, it is the lesser of two evils. He’s already dead, what more can Mystery do to him.
/I am so very sorry. /
He swallows nervously, but Mystery looks genuinely sad, like he feels responsible for this entire mess.
“Am I a ghost?” Lewis had been a ghost. It made sense that he was also a ghost. The evidence is pretty damning.
/I am sorry. / Mystery comes forward again, lowering his head to muzzle Arthur’s open palm. The hand, once made of metal, is now some sort of glowing yellow energy. Mystery’s nose is cool to touch. It has been a long while since Arthur’s felt sensation in that arm. Hesitantly, he reaches out with his opposite hand to ruffle the fur covering the fox’s head. When he does, the smell of rice fields, grass and dense forest waft up around him. For a second, he can almost hear a river rushing in the distance. The impression fades quickly, replacing fear with sadness.
“It’s not your fault,” He mutters, meeting Mystery’s gaze when the fox’s head tilts up.
/ I wish that were true, but I fear I have made a grave oversight. /
Arthur has no idea what to say to that, so he stands, floats, in commiserative silence.
“Mystery?” Vivi’s voice sounds from outside, causing both of them to shift in her direction. Her tone is flat and lifeless, very un-Vivi-like.
“You’re in my way.”
/Do not come ./ Mystery turns fully, using his bulk to shield Vivi from view. Yes. Good idea. Arthur doesn’t want Vivi seeing his body either.
/This is not something you want to see./
“Too fucking late!” Vivi snaps, anger returning, “Now, get out of my way. The least I can do is put him somewhere more comfortable before I hunt down that ghost bastard.” She spits the last few words.
/ I see. / Mystery wilts, eyeing him with a more unreadable expression, / Then perhaps you would reconsider those plans. /
“What are you…”
Vivi begins to argue, but her voice fails when Arthur pushes around Mystery. In the small space, the action is somewhat tricky. Arthur and Vivi make eye contact. She gasps. Slowly, he floats down out of the semi-trailer to hover on the dirt in front of her. Now he is away from his dead body, he can almost pretend everything is normal.
“Ah,” He greets unintelligibly.
“Arthur,” She breaths out his name, one hand over her mouth, belaying shock. Despite being partially covered by her hand, he can still see her red eyes and patchy face, meaning she’d been crying not too long ago. Arthur doesn’t need to be a genius to figure out why. Behind him, the air shimmers red, and Mystery reverts back to his smaller dog form, making himself far less menacing.
“So… I died. But I’m okay now,” He tries to reassure. It has the opposite effect, making her eyes go all watery, “Seriously.  No. Don’t cry!”
Vivi flings her arms around him in a hug. He almost expects them to go straight through him.
They don’t.
NOTE: You’ve done some nice art for my fic. Here is a fic for your art XD!

the suicide journalist , Chris Morris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwiA8C6oiJo
Susie and a thin man found me in the park. I was walking slowly round the pond, making the bones in my nose tickle by hooting. Susie said my mother had tipped her off, after hearing my voice while throwing stones at the ducks. I had been there a day and a half. "It's because of my job," I explained, "batch testing New Age CD's." "But Hal said he didn't hire you in the end," she said. "That would explain why he hasn't paid me." The thin man with Susie coughed up a small laugh, and spat it onto the ground. "You'd better come to dinner on Saturday," Susie said. "Clive will be there too." She squeezed the man's arm. "Clive is the suicide journalist." He was ghostly pale, with black hair and a sad wit in his eyes. I'd say he looked like John Cusack, if I could remember who the hell John Cusack was. As he gazed moodily at the pond, Susie explained that Clive had announced in his weekly column that he had six months to live. On April the fifteenth, he would be committing suicide, and until then he would write about how it felt to be staring death in the face. Clive took aout a notebook and muttered something about the blackness of a moorhen. "Do you know what month it is now?" she asked. I thought it might be Martober. Susie dabbed a damp eye, and said that the suicide column was the saddest, funniest, most tragic and uplifting thing she'd ever read. "He has just twelve weeks to go." I looked across the pond and started honking again. Susie turned to collect Clive, who was puffing on three cigarettes and smirking at his notes. "Eight or late with a good excuse," she crooned, and popped a sweet in my mouth. I arrived well after dark. A smart woman opened the door. "I couldn't afford a bottle of wine," I said, "so I've drawn one on a piece of cardboard." I had prepared for the party by eating half a jar of instant coffee I'd found in the bins at Sainsbury's. She took my cardboard and said "That's brilliant. Could I use you in a programme?" When I asked her what sort of programme, she said "I could make a whole series about the things people bring to parties." "What do you do?" I said, thinking of the window at Dixon's. "My name' s Hosanna Bell. I work in the warm arts." We stepped past Susie's yachting gear and into the dining room. Seven people sat noisily round a large bowl of oysters, but Susie wasn't a single one of them. I thought I was at the wrong party, until they explained that the whole point was to be late, but with a good excuse. "Why are YOU late?" they asked. I said I'd had no money for a bottle of wine, and the homeless bloke at the tube station who normally subs me a couple of quid because he says I look worse off than his dog was being mugged when I asked him this time and hadn't given me a penny, and then I'd got lost whether Susie's house was directly opposite some trees, or directly opposite no trees at all. Several conversations had started by the time I got to that bit. Susie arrived to great squeals and kisses. She announced that she had spent the last three hours in bestial congress with a junior cabinet minister. Gobs hung open, because everyone had thought he was gay, and several of them also knew that he was her half-brother. She wore a grin as big as a harbour. "Do you think Clive is still coming?" said a sincere man in glasses, and the talk turned at once to his column. Hosanna Bell said she had seen more truth in Clive's writing than the entire works of any writer she could think of. A woman called Emma agreed. "I'm still reeling. I don't know whether to weep, laugh, throw up or hug everybody." "That's just your protein rush," observed a man called Paddy, pointing to the seventeen shells on her plate. Emma touched his leg. Paddy was Clive's editor, and was busy milking the table by mildly deprecating the praise for Clive's column, so people doubled it in protest. He was just declaring that the columns would have to be polished up for the book, when swearing in the hall announced the arrival of Clive. He looked a bit drunk, and seemed small with his coat off. He said he was sorry he was late, but actually he didn't give a fuck. Everyone laughed, except Paddy. Susie said "This brilliant man has asked me if you would all take it easy on the suicide questions tonight," and helped him liberally to bivalves. We nodded, of course, and I asked him if he thought oysters could commit suicide. Susie glared at me. I said I was just wondering if an oyster could make a decision like that, and if so, how it would die, because it couldn't really hang itself. "Are you being weird, or sarcastic?" said Emma. I didn't know, because I get the two feelings mixed up. She called me a plankton, and started telling Clive about the time she had cut her wrists. "Look at my scars," she said. "They are beautiful, but not as beautiful as your columns." For some reason, Clive looked at me as he said "Only the very ugly is truly beautiful. And if the printed word has any meaning, then it must come from the very edge of fuckybumbooboo." There were titters. Paddy muttered something about Clive alienating his fans, but was cut off by Emma. "No, Clive has every right to be drunk. You are in masses of pain, Clive. You are doing it for us." "Yes," agreed Hosanna. Clive asked her what the hell she knew. "In the warm arts, we're strong on people power," she said, "and what you have done in volunteering to take your own life is illuminate with poignant resonance the self destructor in all of us." There was a ripple of applause. Clive, who had been sousing his oysters in vodka and setting them alight before hurling them down his throat, now added a cigarette to the turmoil, and belched the word "bollocks." Paddy banged the table, and started telling Clive that if all he could do was get pissed and shove drugs up his bum for the last twelve columns, he would lose all his priceless empathy. "This is the finest copy I've ever commisioned," he said, "and I'm not having it ruined by some jumped-up little floozy going all diddums." A man called Stitt said that Paddy was threatening the purity of Clive's columns. "If he uses the bottle, then that should come through in his work." "But he'll end up writing about you lot!" said Paddy. Suddenly all the guests were telling Clive about the time they'd nearly topped themselves. Hosanna Bell described how she'd been suicidal for six months after giving birth, until she'd decided to sue her baby for what it had done to her figure. Clive was insulting everyone and writing notes on his cuffs. "Losers! Crap attempt!" he shouted. "I want something that actually works." Someone said hosepipes work. Clive knew a bloke in a garden centre in Maidstone who actually cuts them to length for your particular car. He said the people carrier length hose was the most popular. "Wow," said Hosanna Bell, now also scribbling feverishly. "So then, Mr Superstar," Paddy was saying, "what is the best way to kill yourself?" Clive said that in fact the best way he knew was to buy 200 foot nylon rope, tie one end round your neck, the other round a lamp post, and get into your car and floor the accelerator. He said that's how his great-uncle had done it. He'd made Clive help him. He was just nine years old. And he'd had to ride in the car and stop it crashing when his uncle's head came off. The blood had made the pedals very slippery. Clive blinked, smarting eyes. The table fell silent. "Really?" said Paddy, genuinely shocked. "Of course not, you moron!" brayed Clive, and went on to explain that we were all idiots, he could say anything and we'd lap it up, just because we thought his pain meant something, how we wouldn't give him a second thought if he wasn't going to kill himself, except that actually he wasn't anyway, because the whole thing was a hoax, and he was going to say so in his column next week. Paddy erupted, and decked Clive with the oyster bowl. Then he stood over him, roaring that this was his f***ing idea, Clive had agreed to do it, and he wasn't going to wriggle out of killing himself now, not now there was a book. Clive crawled from the room. The general opinion was that Clive had just treated us to his most savage and moving cry for help yet. We had all understimated his pain. "I feel choked up now," said Emma, "but if I read about next week, I'll be crying for the rest of the year." "Someone bring me a f***ing fag." Clive's voice sounded glutinous. Susie gestured to me, as everyone else was still debating the meaning of his actions. He lay on the floor, two regurgitated oysters a tongue's length from his leaking mouth - one of them still slightly alive. His nose seemed a better place for the cigarette. The caustic fumes revived him, and he stumbled to his feet. "I'm going out," he said "I'm going to break into a car, and drive around drunk until I crash." As he lunged past me into the hall, his foot snagged on a rope among Susie's boat bags, and he fell on the sea grass. We both looked at the large coil of blue nylon. "Are you good at knots?" he said. Susie's car keys were hanging by the front door. "You might as well use the Discovery," I said. "She'll be so thrilled to have a new story." About an hour later, I revealed that Clive hadn't just gone for a walk. He'd gone to divorce his head. And how I'd helped him with the keys and the knots. I needed to go to sleep, and had correctly anticipated that Paddy would punch my lights out.

Milestone Thank You Post
So I hit a pretty significant milestone the other day, I wasn’t gonna make one of these but I haven’t in the past and I think it’s important to thank those who’ve made my time on Tumblr so wonderful.
It’s been a helluva 2.5 years and while I haven’t been the most productive of contributors, I wanna thank all those followers who stuck with me nonetheless, and if you joined me further down the road, thank you to you, too. I hope you’ll all enjoy what I’ve got planned this year. I want to thank you for more than merely supporting my reading, though. I can’t count the number of supportive and commiserative messages I’ve received from many of you and I want you to know that you have genuinely affected my life for the better. I love you.
And to the friends I have made on here - you are precious to me. I’m incredibly awkward and conversationally stunted so those of you who have endured and coaxed it out of me anyway - thank you for persisting, haha. I love you, and I’m honoured to know such kind, skilled people. Even though Tumblr isn’t the greatest of platforms, the people on here are and I love seeing your follower interactions on my dash, seeing your fics do well, seeing you flourish creatively. And when things aren’t going so great, I’m always here if you need me. Anyway, I shan’t ramble on.
Bolded: mutual
Italics: i have read your work/seen your art!!!! and loved it!!!! (everyone else i need to get round to!!! i’ll get there!)
💌 : there’s a special note for you at the end

Special notes  💌
@bendthekneetobangtan: MJ, I’ve already rambled on and on about my love for you many times, but I fear it must be said again!!! You’re not only a kind and giving person, but you are a boon to all the writers you honour with your readership. Your reviews are so damn thorough and AMAZING, I always wriggle in excitement when I see one from you. Thank you so much for sticking with me since the early days (when I wrote more adlkwjalkj). I love you.
@dark-muse-iris: Iris, not only are you one of my dearest friends from this hellsite, but you are literally one of the two people whose writing inspired me to start my own blog in the first place. You are wise, gracious and sassy and I so enjoy watching you grow with your blog. I am so excited for your future projects, including those not related to FF. Love your writing. Love you.
@gimmesumsuga: STEPH. You know how much I love you because I usually say it at least once a day because you are a cutie-patootie and just one of the loveliest, more interesting people to talk to. I live vicariously thru your IRL shenanigans lmao. Also, you’re such a caring and willing ear; the best to sound fic ideas off of. Speaking of fic, you’re ONE OF THE BEST ON HERE and u should give yourself more credit, sweet. You’re also probably gonna be famous when u publish STS so keep me in mind when u make a shit-ton of money pls. You’re the best concert buddy I could ever ask for. Can’t wait for next time. alkjaljk anyway, I LOVE YOU.
@kpopfanfictrash: Shanna!!!! Okay, not only are you perhaps one of the best writers to grace our community (and most likely to find success outside of imo!!!), but you are just the kindest, humblest, most chill person to talk to. Plus u tolerate my weird-ass humour which is incredible. I love you!
@marginalmadness: Shippy, I am most likely gonna have to bug u on Twitter first to read this bc since our failed collab (LMAO) I don’t think u’ve logged into Tumblr since. STILL. As I’m spilling my feelings, I have to say u are one of my most treasured and oldest (no, not age) friends. We first bonded over otome games. AND THEN, FINALLY, LAST YEAR, WE INDUCTED YOU INTO ARMY!!!! And it’s been amazing since. I was so happy to meet u and your gorgeous, majestic self. Plus u and your headcanons always make me w*t (w/ tears or other). I appreciate u and how u take care of me. I hope you feel cared for in return. I LOVE YOU.
@readyplayerhobi: Tali, u are a wonderful enigma. U put up with my clingy-ass affection and ridiculous jokes and only sometimes get annoyed at me. Plus u are literally the Queen Of Fantasy And Amazing Fic Ideas/Execution and am always in awe of you. For that, and your productivity. Like, damn, girl. Also, u talk about the weirdest things and I appreciate that. I like a fellow weirdo. Hope I can meet u more in the future!!! because I love you!!
@seokeros: Tessa, I’m certain you don’t check tumblr much anymore but if u do, I just wanted to communicate to u my deep appreciation for the support and encouragement that you offered me in the early days of my blog. I was so in awe of you and your writing skills that I could hardly believe when u began to interact with me. I’m sure ur the driving force that pushed out several of my pieces when my motivation was low. I want to thank u for everything u’ve done for the BTS FF community and when u do decide to leave for good, I will be first in line for your bestselling books. I love you.
@taeken-my-heart: NORA!! I think I’ve known u for nearly as long as my blog’s been alive. Not only are u literally just the sweetest, purest bean, but u wowed me recently with your writing and I’m waiting with baited breath for the conclusion of Independent. Even though many of our chats are brief they are a frequent mood-lifter for me and I want to thank you for being here. I love you.
@underthejoon: Fal, thank u for introducing yourself to me bc otherwise I would never have been able to get to know the lovely u (I’m too shy). U are for certain one of the most supportive and kind people I know on here and ur also my emotion twin (Scorpios unite!!). I really hope your experience on Tumblr improves because u deserve nothing less but love and appreciation. For your writing, too, because u have a fucking knack for it. I love you!!!
@zixxossi: Last but not least, my darling frogger Alexa. U are my bestest and most treasured friend. We’re chalk and cheese but we’re also Bonnie and Clyde (without the death). We’ve spent so many hours dreaming up worlds and writing them into being and those were some of the most fun nights. We’re past that now, but I know we’ll forever have a strong bond and I’m so, so happy to see u flourish these recent months. U deserve nothing less, my little 6′1″ angel. I can’t wait to see u again and suffocate u in a hug. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May Reading Wrap Up
I'm actually really proud of myself. I finished 13 books last month. Spent a lot of extra time away from screens and focusing on my mental health so I burned through way more than I normally would. So anyways, here's my reviews. - Also please understand that these are just my opinions and if I shit on your favorite book I'm sorry that I didn't enjoy it as much as you. Also, also Im terrible with character names.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor ⭐⭐⭐
I actually started this book at the end of April but didn't finish it til May 1st so whatever, here it is. This books is a YA urban fantasy novel about a girl with a double life. She spends half her days studying art in Europe and the other half running errands for a tooth collecting wish monger. I don't want to say a whole lot more because I dont want to spoil anything important about the plot. So, I'll try to be vague. Let me start by saying this story is amazing. I loved the writing and the world. I rated it so low solely because I can't stand the two main characters and it really dragged down what would have otherwise been an amazing novel. So yeah, great book but its a preference thing. Also took points off for the insta-love but not really insta-love shit. Idk. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this read even a month later. Gonna read the second to see if maybe my hatred of the two mains was just a fluke.
3/5 Stars
Spellbound by Rachel Hawkins
⭐⭐⭐
This is the third book in the Hex Hall trilogy. Not much to say about it. It was a meh ending to an overall pretty good series. 3/5 stars. Moving on.
The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
⭐⭐⭐
Realizing now how many of my reads this month were pretty middle of the world. Hopefully next month will be filled with 4 and 5 stars. Anyways, this book was honestly a struggle for me to finish and Im not sure why. It's a YA mystery magical realism story about a tiny coastal town that is cursed by the spirits of 3 sisters who were suspected of witchcraft and drowned 2 centuries prior. Because of this, every year the sisters return from the sea to take the lives of teenage boys by luring them to the sea. We follow the life of kind of meh and standard YA girl #1. She meets a strange non tourist boy and hires him to work in the lighthouse her family owns. Her dad randomly disappeared years ago and her mom is a loon. So yeah... I dont know. I kind of felt like this story was hot garbage in places. I usually dont have any trouble with the suspense of disbelief in magical realism stories but this one just had too many plot holes. Like, I get morbid stuff becomes tourist attractions but why wouldn't someone have stepped in and evacuated the town if at least 3 teenage boys die there EVERY SINGLE YEAR without fail? I honestly feel like the FBI or some other government agency would have cleared the place out after the first 20 or so deaths. There was also the whole MC can see the ghosts of the girls possessing people but chooses not to tell anyone? Like, I get it. You dont want people to label you a freak or think you're crazy but come the fuck on. You live in a tourist trap where people flock to watch local teenage males wash up on shore and you really think the authorities arent going to take you up on the help? It wasn't an awful book by any means. It was well written and extremely descriptive. Just had major beef with some of the details. Anyways, I wont say much more so I don't spoil the whole book.
3/5 Stars
An Enchantment of Ravens by Maragret Rogerson
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Finally, I get to talk about one of my favorite reads of the month. I love anything to do with the Fae in my YAfiction and this was literally everything I wanted in a Fae novel. It takes place in a town called Whimsy, a humanish town in the world of Faerie. The fae cannot do any Craft, or what we would consider craftsmanship. Art and humans who can do it well are very precious in this world because the Fae can't ever do it themselves. We follow the adventures of a girl who has been commisioned to paint the portrait of the Autumn King and the chaos that ensues. Let me just start by saying this is one of those insta-love situations where I feel like it's genuinely ok. I might be making excuses because I loved the title so much but whatever. It's explained and I accept it. Also, I realize that Gadfly had a lovely description but my brain willl not let me picture him as anything but Mr.Waternoose from Monsters Inc.
5/5 Stars
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
⭐⭐⭐
This book started out so good and went downhill very quickly. It follows the story of these two magicians who were fated by their Master's to one day fight to the death. There were so many things I loved about this book only for the last 100 pages to just take a firey dump on my face. I loved the setting and the majority of the characters. The supporting characters were so deep and interesting that I almost cared more about them than I did Ceilia and Marko (Im proabably wrong and I dont feel like googling but I think that was his name) . I don't know. I don't want to complain about anymore meh books.

Matched by Allie Condie
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Went into this book expecting to hate it. I usually don't like contemporary love stories but this had major City of Ember meets The Giver vibes and it just appealed to that 14 year old girl in me again. That seems to happen with a lot of dystopian utopia stories. Anyways, story is about a girl who lives in this town where when you hit a certain age you are brought to a place and told who the government has chosen for you to marry. She is matched with her life long best friend and all is well. Except that her little Get To Know Your New Husband microship thing showed her two guys instead of just one. And lots of bullshit ensues. I honestly think I rated this so high because I enjoy the world and not so much whats actually happening to the kids. Like, I loved the idea that art is harmful so the government chose 100 acceptable pieces and thats all these people know. I loved the brutality of the government in general. I can't say much more without spoiling some of the twists but geez did it have me hooked. I'm going to be started the second one soonish, though my TBR for June has gotten intense so we will see.
4/5 stars
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I cannot say enough good things about this book. It is so fucking good! Not going to rant about it or anything because y'all just need to go read it immediately.
5/5 stars
Would give it every star in the sky if Im being completely honest.
Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh
⭐⭐
Got sucked into this book by the cover and honestly that was the best part of this book. Its about this world where necromancy is pretty highly regarded and used to resurrect the royals after they die. The only downside is that if a living person ever lays eyes on the resurrected person's skin then they turn into these horrible monsters. Maybe it's just me but like that absolutely does not seem worth the risk. Plus, in order to bring the person back, these reapers have to go into the death world and bring the spirit back. And it's HELLA DANGEROUS. So like, WHY? Anyways, there is this stupid underlying love story that I absolutely wasn't invested in. This just all around was not a good book.
2/5 stars
Monster High by Lisi Harrison
⭐⭐
Little known fact~ I'm obsessed with Monster High and Ever After High. So yeah, I realize this wasn't targeted to me as an adult but even going into it with an open mind I was disappointed. Granted I didn't read the description of the book prior. I just saw this franchise I love and grabbed it. First, if you are a fan of the mini series and the movies do not read this. It doesnt follow the cinematic canon and I think that was my biggest problem with it. Frankie's character was all wrong and I hated the whole"Normy" cast. Was really excited for these but I definitely won't be continuing the series. I don't even want to torture myself with seeing how they manage to ruin my sweet baby Draculara.
2/5 stars
Unhinged by AG Howard
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I can't say enough good things about this series. This is the second book in the trilogy and it was a fanatstic bridge book. It had me engrossed through the entire audiobook. Morpheus is still everything. If you loved Splintered I would highly reccomend continuing.
5/5 stars
Truthwitch
⭐⭐
Have had this on my TBR for a while because of how many Booktubers have hyped the series. Buy, was I disappointed. I was soooooooooo bored. Maybe it's because I don't really enjoy this type of fantasy or maybe it was just the slower paced story but I just slugged through this book. Both of the main female characters were bland to me and I didn't care about their friendship. The world was cool but not enough to keep me invested. Just wasn't my cup of tea.
2/5 stars
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
⭐⭐⭐
Picked this up because of how much I loved The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and it didn't meet my expectations. It follows this girl who works for a paranormal gorvenment group. She has a special ability that makes her really useful to them so they are trying to groom her basically. They capture this changeling and she befriends him and there is an overarching plot that I just didn't get invested in. The friendship between the two main characters was pretty much the only thing that I enjoyed in this title. The mother figure was insufferable and I just didn't really understand the whole org that they worked for in general. Not an awful book but not fantastic.
Solid 3/5 stars.
The Siren by Kiera Cass
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Going to preface this by saying I might be biased. I love Kiera Cass and have enjoyed almost everything she has written. That said, this wasn't nearly as good as The Selection series but it was a pretty good stand alone novel. It about a girl who becomes a siren on her deathbed and spends the next 100 years serving the sea by luring people to their deaths. After doing this for 70 years, she falls in love and pretty much ruins everything. Loved the characters, especially the male lead. The insta love was a little pet peeve of mine but the love interest was so sweet and genuine that I was willing to overlook it. Pretty good read if you dig supernatural romance.
4/5 stars
June holds the Ghibli-a-thon but also lots of holidays for my family so we will see how much I actually get read. So far my tentative TBR is 5 books but we will see where the days take me.

elisa-pie replied to your post “Seeing fanfic commission posts but then I am a fandom old”
i don't think it's that odd since there have been fan art commisions for a while and we still get so much fan art for free too so it's not like it's a problem in that way (not sure how long that's been going on tbh). do you feel the same about fan art commisions, or do you see them as different? (i'm honestly curious to hear your thoughts)
Oh, it’s not odd at this point!  And you’re not alone in not regarding it as strange.  We see fanfic writers offering their writing for commissions fairly regularly.
Here’s why I react the way I do (again with my full understanding that I am A Fandom Old, and absolutely get that times have changed and that we’re not going to go back to prior norms):
Offering fanfiction for a price is a big departure from the community expectations that used to exist in my early days in fandom.  When I got on the scene, everyone was very accustomed to providing disclaimers.  Many fanfiction archives required such disclaimers, in which we specifically stated we didn’t own the characters and worlds we were borrowing, and that we weren’t making a profit from anything we had produced based on those characters and worlds.
That expectation of reading disclaimers and providing disclaimers came out of a time when fan writers were really and truly sued by creators or issued cease-and-desist letters from legal firms representing copyright holders.  So it was to cover everyone’s collective asses that we all got used to that practice, and that the continual practice instilled in us the understanding that you did not make profit from fanfiction.
And even as we all made little jokes in our disclaimers, just because including them for every single chapter of an epic WiP felt tedious or maybe it seemed a little silly to reiterate we weren’t making profit when pretty obviously at that time none of us were trying to do so based on that constant reiteration, composing those “not mine/don’t sue” amendments was so pervasive I can still write disclaimers in my sleep for former fandoms (and rattle off not only the main creators who had to be credited but the production companies and publishers for those original works).
One big reason people backed away from using disclaimers was that fandom-specific archives and listservs and sites began to shut down, and everyone began to centralize their works, no matter the fandoms, on AO3.  And AO3 neither requires disclaimers nor does it offer a field in its posting form to put a disclaimer.  There’s actually a good reason they opted for this - AO3 states specifically that fanfiction writers do not need to provide disclaimers because transformative not-for-profit fanworks are covered under Fair Use.
So I’ll just pause there and emphasize that protection under Fair Use requires no profit be made.  And obviously commissions = profit.   Unfortunately, as fans became used to the absence of disclaimers, they didn’t see anyone emphasizing the separation of fanfiction from profit.
By this point, many fans genuinely are probably unaware such a separation exists.  Or, if they are aware of it to a greater or lesser extent, they don’t why they should honor it when they see plenty of other fans offering to write for commissions.
But I can’t turn off that I’m aware of it, no matter how common it becomes to see people offering/charging for commsisions.  So I’ll continue to feel weird as hell with the idea of anyone getting money for writing fanfiction based on copyrighted materials.
And lastly, to your point that we’ll still get “free” fanfiction if people also charge for commissions (with the implication that charging for fanfic commissions will become increasingly common) -- yes, probably.  I mean, I sure do hope so!  Aside from the important issues surrounding Fair Use, to me it wouldn’t be fandom anymore if there were no instances of the gift economy that was a defining feature of the community I joined.  At some other point I may go into why it’s a bummer that we’re moving away from a fuller embrace of our status as a gift economy.  But in all honesty, this stuff is discouraging and tiring to talk about, so not today.
You asked me to get into the distinctions here between fanfiction and fanart.  Though I have a few vague ideas about why fanart came to be regarded as more of a grey area as far as commissions go, I can’t speak to this with any authority.  I just don’t have the same information or understanding about fanart and images as I do about fan words and writing.  I do hope, though, that you find fan artists who might be willing to talk about how that issue evolved for fanart.
