I am new to the Landoscar fandom but I adore their chemistry and the fics. I saw your post about how you’re a part of the fandom that actively protects the girls in their rl which is awesome because I didn’t even know what the Carlando fans had done. I’m so happy to hear this fandom seems a bit more mature than that. How can I join? I’d like to make like minded friends 😊

yes!! we love and support Lily here and the line between shipping landoscar as a couple vs as their real life relationship is extremely clear. a similar ship is George and Alex where both Lily and Carmen are beloved by the people who ship galex. it's so easy to not hate women, adore the two guys' real life friendship, and then ship them romantically for fun in non-public spaces. so so easy.

the larrying of car|ando breaks my heart a little bc that was my first F1 rpf ship and I also love their real life friendship - genuinely the Singapore race meant way more to me emotionally for Carlos having always been big protective brother to Lando than needing to put on ship goggles. no one rly knows why car|ando is the one that people have decided is "legit" esp when Daniel and Lando straight up did the gay baiting stuff and Max V is the only driver that Lando actively has an off-season engagement with (as well as a longer driver relationship than Carlos or Daniel). but there's no reasoning w people who use vile rampant misogyny against real life girlfriends as if that will someone make two guy friends suddenly get married or whatever.

but I will say that a lot of us who still ship car|ando aren't in the larry crowd and can distinguish reality from fiction so don't be too spooked off them <3

honestly as a relatively new blog myself I can tell you that everyone in landoscar fandom is extremely kind and welcoming! my walls of text have got to get tedious at times but if anyone's annoyed then they don't say and just scroll on by!

but a heads up that tumblr is a very tricky place for keeping up with people and content by the tags and dash alone so I would make sure to tag your posts very well and also just start sending in some asks to blogs! personally I try to systematically check mutuals blogs bc tumblr sometimes shoves a person's posts wayyyy down.

and this is a personal preference and I'm not sure if you're a fic writer but it's such a huge help with fic posts if there's a banner or even just a pic bc for some reason those show up on my dash more than text post only fic.

How did you get into F1? What drew you to your ships?

I am one of the masses who came to F1 through Drive to Survive, haha. Actually, my father-in-law started watching Drive to Survive, and then F1 itself, and he kept trying to cajole my husband and I into it. We resisted for a while, but then a couple things happened. 1. My son got really into cars, so we started watching F1 recaps on YouTube in the mornings while we were eating breakfast, and 2. A couple of my beloved mutuals on here started posting about F1. So I finally caved and watched DTS, and then I was hooked!

As with a lot of people who started out watching DTS, I fell in love with Daniel from minute 1, so any ships I loved were obviously going to have to involve him in some way. At first I had bought into the narrative that Daniel and Max didn't like each other, but after I watched a few of the compilation videos of how they interacted with each other in the Red Bull days, their chemistry was just so undeniable. Plus I enjoy the grumpy/sunshine aspect of it, and once I started to dig into it more, I do really enjoy the thing of like...Max's star rising in the sport just as Daniel's was fading and what that means for their relationship. It's very chewy in a good way!!

I like Ricrussell for similar reasons. Daniel and George are very different in some ways but also very similar in some ways, and I think the ways they are similar and different are perfect both for chemistry and for conflict. I've spoken a little on this before, but the idea of George as someone who tries so hard to be liked and doesn't always achieve it vs. Daniel who tries so hard to be liked and it works? *chef's kiss* Sprinkle on a little George-wearing-Daniel's-merch and a pinch of "Danny", and I'm hooked.

I do enjoy a lot of other ships, but others haven't grabbed me quite as much. I've written Piarles and would again, but they are like...almost too perfect for me! I need more conflict. They're bffs and clearly already in love, so what do you do with that, haha. I like Yukierre too, but the problems are similar. I enjoy reading both of those ships, though.

I also really love to read George/Alex, and I honestly think Galex writers have done some of the best and most interesting (to me!) work in this fandom, BUT....I have no idea who Alex is as a person. His personality baffles me. I cannot get a handle on it. So yeah, I love them, but I simply could never write them.

George is like somehow ridiculously competent at survival? Sure, Alex knows how to climb the trees and he managed a decent enough shelter, but George starts the fire and he knows what kind of nuts and fruits and bugs they can eat and when Alex asks, he shrugs and says “I always look this stuff up before we go somewhere.”

And it makes Alex love him more. Which is stupid because he doesn’t have energy to love George when George doesn’t love him and they’re trying to…ya know…survive.

So he’s not going to bring it up.

George has loved Alex since before he can remember and his first thought when their boat goes down is “oh god, I have him all to myself until they send someone,” but then they’re on the island for 22 days and George just thinks “oh god, I have to keep him alive until we get off this island.”

It’s disgusting and awful, but George always makes sure Alex has enough to drink and enough to eat and he just tries to keep them both alive.

They have to stay in the hospital for weeks. Alex has some kind of infection in his arm and George is so malnourished that some of his hair falls out and it’s awful because they’re really fine, mostly. Except George wakes up in the middle of the night thinking about the fire and Alex keeps thinking that his food is bad.

It’s fine.

They get released and they go home and George thinks it’ll all go back to normal until he’s laying on his couch in silence, trying to remember exactly how Alex had looked with his red nose and his blonde hair when someone knocks on his door.

They haven’t seen each other since they got back. Something about trauma bonds developing and their therapists had said it was best.

Mercedes probably sent someone. George turned his phone off this morning because he hates it now, but it’s Alex - bag slung over his shoulder - looking spooked.

“I was hoping I could stay with you.” Alex says.

George let’s him in because he’s in love with him, but he does say, “we aren’t supposed to-“

“Well, they’re not taking into account that I’m in love with you, are they?” Alex says easily, like it doesn’t turn George over - just like that boat wreck did.

George shuts his mouth and he makes them some tea.
