Mikan Sakura Elric Chapter 1

Mikan’s Beginnings 

3rd Person POV

Mikan Sakura was a sweet, peaceful, and loving child, as was with her mother Yuka Sakura, but there is a secret they had kept from everyone else. Yuka and Mikan could travel to other worlds, dimensions, and galaxies. In fact Mikan's father, Alphonse Elric, was from another dimension. Her father's world is full of people who have the ability to preform Alchemy. Mikan and her mom would travel and forth between the dimensions to visit her dad and the rest of his family. When Mikan was 6 she became an alchemist, the youngest ever, since her uncle Edward was a tween when he became one. A month after she became an state alchemist, her baby brother was born in her father's world. Her cousins Abby, Robert and Steve congratulated Mikan on becoming a big sister. A week later, Yuka was driving Mikan and Youichi to the grocery store, when all of a sudden an out of control car slammed into their vehicle. Mikan and Youichi were okay, but Yuka didn't make it. At the time Mikan didn't know about her traveling alice so she couldn't go to or contact her dad. Mikan and Youichi lived peacefully in Japan until Mikan was 9 and Youichi was 2. Youichi was taken by alice academy, after Youichi accidentally summoned ghosts at some 2nd graders. Mikan resisted following Youichi, but when she was 10 and in 3rd grade her friend Hotaru (whom she met that year) went to the academy as well. Mikan went to alice academy to follow them, she didn't want to be separated from her brother and best friend. Even though she pretended to be dense, was only 1/500 the amount she pretended to be. Mikan went as soon as she she could not resist the urge to see Hotaru and Youichi. When Mikan got there she met people who wanted to kidnap her, she knew that but continued to act dumb, she planned on exposing them. Until a teacher came she still acted dumb and the teacher released his alice. Mikan saw and knew he was using an alice but still pretended even though she wanted to barf because of the way he was using it. He asked if she could feel anything and she said she didn't, which was true but she could see. Mikan got in for her nullification alice but she didn't mention her traveling alice, it was risky, her mom told her about the academy and her mom knew she had both nullification, steal\insert and traveling alice. Mikan knew about all of her alices now and knew not to say anything about them or Alchemy, Mikan didn't want to be in the Dangerous Ability class that her mom told her about.

Mikan's POV

It has been 2 years since I came here, I go between the dimensions whenever I get the chance I loved visiting, uncle Roy plays with me and cousin Emily who wants to be fuhrer like her dad, it was hilarious when aunt Riza took out her gun to her husband and told him to go to work. Uncle Ed and Aunt Winry were always having fun with me and my cousins or working. Uncle Ed was still in the military just not a state alchemist until an incident happened and Ed was forced to take people's gates and give his arm to truth again. Now Uncle Ed taught me what he knows somehow I can just clap and do Alchemy like uncle Ed, uncle Roy and Dad, no one knows why, but it makes being an alchemist easier. I once got discovered by the elementary school principal so when I'm here I secretly work with Rei-nii and do missions, they keep it secret so they have a secret weapon and I'm not discovered by the government win-win to me. They let me use my traveling alice freely and use my steal/insert when they need it, thanks to that I have a lot of alices but my original ones are life shortening.I suddenly am called on by Jin-Jin and answer the question easily. Uncle Roy is always keeping my knowledge in check and I study here and in Amestris when no one is looking, I'm actually smarter than a lot of people I have already finished college level work. Then I realize my mistake I responded like I would in Amestris, not like I do here. Everyone is looking at me I panic but I don't show it I use my state alchemist poker face. "Are you really Miss. Sakura?" Jin-Jin asks me, "I'm not feeling good, I'm going to the school hospital." Then Uncle Ed comes in, it must be serious if he used my alice stone. "I need to talk to Mikan Sakura, can someone tell me where she is?" Uncle Ed asks, we head out of the classroom to my no star dorm."Uncle Ed why are you here? What happened? Is everyone okay?" I ask scared of what is happening, "It hasn't harmed anyone we know yet but to the north the people are attacking Briggs, it's holding so far but are jobs as state alchemists are needed for a while I already explained to your principal and you can leave, this one might not end well. Mikan do you need to grab anything before we go to Amestris, but we have to be quick fuhrer Mustang asked for us personally, I'm thinking an elite group. Al found out and wants to watch your back." I feel like my world might explode, one of my countries is going to war, and my family and friends might be hurt. " Dad can be overprotective sometimes. Are any other countries involved?" "Xing is helping since emperor Ling and princess Mei insisted on joining because the dracmans are making a philosopher's stone." "But aren't they made of you know what?" "Yes, they are using ones from other countries surrounding them." "We better go Uncle Ed, Uncle Roy might get angry if we're late. I don't want him to use flame Alchemy on you again, last time your automail got singed Aunt Winry was furious. She nearly hit me with her wrench instead of you." "You know what maybe we should get going." I pack up my stuff and get out my modified uniform, I didn't like it and turned it into a similarly designed dress. I use my traveling alice and we are in central city right outside central HQ, I never get used to how big it is. We go right to fuhrer Mustang or Uncle Roy's office. We walk in and see Dad, and close family and family friends including Uncle Ling, Aunt Lanfan, Aunt Mei and others like Armstrong. I also see people I don't recognize who are either veterans from the Promise Day or elite alchemists. "Hey Havoc, no smoking in front of a minor especially me, I'm not afraid to use my Alchemy on you." "It's just one, what's the harm?" "Lung cancer and a bunch of other health risks." "Everyone I need your attention." "Yes, fuhrer Mustang." We all replied, " As we are talking our Briggs soldiers might be engaged in battle so I want an elite group of soldiers to help win this war. Any questions or does anyone not want to join something that could effect our whole country?" "No, sir." "I'd like Edward Elric to head this group with Hawkeye receiving updates until after our child is born." "It would be my honor to help this country once again fuhrer." "You'll be sent to Briggs next week by train. Mikan please stay for a moment, the rest of you may leave now." "What do you want to talk about fuhrer Mustang?" "I'm talking as your godfather right now, not fuhrer. Mikan please be careful out there, okay? I don't want you to get hurt, no one wants you to." "I know that Uncle Roy and I'm careful sometimes I wonder if you even would have let me become an alchemist not even a state one!" "I'm just worried about you. Talk to the rest of your family. Please talk to Riza she wants to watch my back 24/7 can you convince her to take it easy?" "I'll try it might take a little while. Love you Uncle Roy." I leave Uncle Roy's office and head to my room at central for when I have to be there for a while. I'm going to call my family tomorrow, I'm tired I hope my friends understand why I'm gone. Thinking about makes me wonder, will I survive? Will my family be safe? How long will the conflict last? How many innocent people will be hurt? What will happen next week when I leave for war?

My “WIPs”

Oh my goodness. I had stuffed saved in all different places. I’ll start with the folders that contained fics that are incomplete. Welp, here I go!

Great Galactic War - this folder is the dump for my Haikyuu space/war AU, one of three or four fics I may focus on writing in the near future (first chapter is already published); the folder has very little atm, but I have about two dozen different scenes on my phone that aren't saved on PC

Kenma Project - the dump for my actively ongoing Haikyuu next gen captain war AU. I have a file in here further titled Ennoshita chapter. I wonder what that’s about? ;)

Three Kings - the dump for my Haikyuu samurai AU starring Hinata and Noya, the second possible fic I may commit to writing (first 2 chapters already published); there’s a chapter outline (which is dated because I’ve updated it in my head so much), and there are notes and many chapter tidbits on my phone too

Vice - the dump for a canonverse Haikyuu fic that was borne from a desire to write more Nekoma, so I subjected them to debilitating angst. There’s a rough chapter outline in here, and there are a couple of chapter drafts saved as emails on my phone. It’s the third fic that I might commit my time to (first 2 chapters, starring poor Inuoka, already published)

March of Justice - this folder was the dump for my aborted One Piece/My Hero Academia crossover, in which a couple of One Piece villains travel to the BnHA universe to conquer it

And here’s the rest I found. Some of these are just notes on fanciful ideas I had for a day and then never revisited. Others were never intended to see the light of day whatsoever

Abe dake ga Inai Machi - Oofuri-Erased - oh goodness. I had to stare at that title for a while to figure out what was wrong with it. An Oofuri/Big Windup fanfic that I didn’t play with for very long, but I was surprised to find I actually wrote the first chapter. Like Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (Erased), there’s a murder and then Abe finds himself transported back to the start of the Oofuri series, 10 months earlier. I reread some of this first chapter, and by my standards, it’s awful

Ace of Diamond - scandal fanfic - one of the ones never intended to see the light of day. It’s just notes. Basically Seidou pulls off its own Black Sox scandal and gets nailed, with some drama over whether Eijun is actually guilty

Ace of Iron / Ace of Swords - a Diamond no Ace samurai AU, mostly notes but also including drafts of a first chapter. It grew so huge there was no chance I could ever write it as a fanfic, so I actually converted it into an original story idea that I may do something with some day

Big Windup - cheating ploy disaster - this one is just notes and also never intended to see the light of day. An Oofuri idea in which Nishiura’s defeated rivals suspect them of cheating and kidnap the club boys to force them to confess. It goes even more downhill. (I’m very glad that, since discovering Haikyuu, I now conceive fanfics I actually want to write.)

Day of the Countercoup - I had to dig to find this one cos I knew it existed, but it wasn't a file. It was a tab in an Excel doc I used for my Haikyuu political AU, Coup d’Etat. It’s notes for an aborted sequel (Coup d’Etat’s original title was “Night of the Coup,” hence this contrasting title) that I scrapped soon after starting work on it. So glad too! Coup d’Etat got its due, and that AUverse shall be left to itself now

Haikyu - Gospel of Shouyou - oh goodness. I’m not gonna explain this one. Me experimenting, not intended to see the light of day

Haikyu - Nightmare from Heaven - this one may be the fourth candidate for continuation as a long-term fic but is currently unpublished. A war/occupation fic in which Miyagi Prefecture is conquered during a contemporary World War III, and the Karasuno boys must now live under foreign military occupation. The first chapter and part of the second were written, and I've got several notes on my phone and PC about subsequent chapters. Thank goodness tensions in that part of the world have simmered down since I devised it

Life Hereafter - Chapter 6.5 alternate ending - oh no. Life Hereafter is my darkest and most sensitive fic, published only on FFN, written to process a RL tragedy I was distantly affected by. I struggled with the ending of Chapter 6, which covered Tsukki and Yamaguchi’s coping with the canonverse tragedy. One draft (called “6.5″ in case I ever wanted to publish it, but I likely never will) featured Tsukki, seeking solace and desperately wanting to console Yamaguchi, giving in to poor judgment and kissing him. Only to then learn Yamaguchi doesn't have the same feelings back. Topping off their hurt with this was far too cruel and painful, and even before I started typing it, I knew I wouldn’t actually publish it. Rereading the draft even now made me feel uncomfortable which is why I kept it because it’s perhaps the best friendship-ruining moment I’ve ever written

Oofuri fanfic - Sakura Conspiracy - I thought I wrote a chapter 1 draft too, but this is an outline for a WWII Oofuri AU in which Nishiura, after winning Koshien in the late 20s or early 30s, moves on to military and political careers, one of their former teammates dies under suspicious circumstances, and Mihashi fears one of his old teammates may be responsible. The story stretches from 1937 to 1945

I'm actually surprised I found no notes on my Haikyuu mafia AU idea. I guess I never actually transcribed any, even though the plot is substantially complete in my head!

Periods of World fanfic - This was an experiment, in which each century from 2000 BC to 2000 AD was listed out, a different part of the world selected for each century, and then a different anime or manga assigned to each part of the world. The idea was to write a chapter set in that century in that area starring those characters. The last chapter, for the new millennium, would have covered all parts of the world. The file is dated 2013. It never became more than this list

Periods of World fanfic 2 - and so it seems I tried again! This file is dated 2014 and shows just a teeny bit more dedication, with the 20th century further subdivided into decades, then every year from 2000-2009, and then every six months for 2010-2014. There are some different anime choices than the 2013 version. Never went anywhere with it, never gonna

Reborn epic crossover anime tribute layout - yes, that’s the literal filename. This is from my days as a Katekyo Hitman Reborn fan, and I don't even recognize most of the character names anymore. Apparently the villains of Reborn travel to seven other anime universes to kidnap major characters to sacrifice them as part of some weird magic scheme that I can’t properly decipher now

Random multi-anime WWII fanfic plan - yes, that’s also the literal filename. This is an outline for a 50-chapter crossover set before and during World War II, where the main characters of Naruto are Russian, One Piece are British, Bleach are French, Katekyo Hitman Reborn are German, Blue Exorcist are Italian, Fairy Tail are Japanese, and Ed and Al from FMA are American. The plot is emotionally devastating, doesn’t pull the punches on all sorts of WWII-related triggers, and frequently and cruelly denies catharsis.

To be perfectly honest though, rereading it, I swear this is the best story I have ever invented! It has a heartrending blend of tragedy, poignant poetic justice, subplot causality, and social commentary and contains few of the traps I sometimes fall into like cheap shock and subplots going nowhere. I really wish I could do something with this narrative now

And I’ll count the hefty handful of TV scripts I’ve written in an effort to practice and hone my scriptwriting skills. All but the last one of these are hypothetical new seasons of real anime:

Blue Exorcist s2 - 1 episode. My attempt to write the Impure King arc, years before they actually produced the Impure King arc. This was not my best work

Noragami: God’s Secret - 2 episodes for a manga-based Season 3. These were pretty decent imo

Oofuri/Big Windup: The Coming of Fall - 17 episodes. I got really into this one. A speculative season 3 assuming three cours (imo we probably won’t be blessed with that many episodes if season 3 comes), covering everything up until the end of the fall tournament. The first 13 episodes covered the story up to chapter 84 minus the Kasukabe match, followed by an OVA (ep 13.5), and then I was working on the Kasukabe match told in hindsight before planning to continue with the big game of the fall prelims. The third cour would have covered the fall tournament itself

Mekakucity Actors XX - 4 episodes. My own idea for a season 2/alternate ending. Because I was very conflicted with how the anime ended

School Babysitters - this was an original episode idea for Gakuen Babysitters that I enjoyed writing very much but turned out too long (40 pages) and features the babies turning into insects. I wouldn't mind publishing it somewhere actually!

Fic Writers Week - Day Three

Hurray, it’s the day for recs, meaning I can actually contribute stuff as a reader alongside reccing one of my lesser known fics as a writer/creator! I’m going to try hard to control myself, and I suspect a few of these are still going to be recognizable... but here’s hoping that this list will give at least some of you something new to read. Here’s my post for day 3, @ficwritersweek​.

Fic Recs:

The Genevan Paso Doble by FullmetalChords - A Leverage and YOI fusion! This series was so much fun to read. And, really, Grifter!Yuuri, what more do we need.

wish by spirit and if by luck by @midnightluck - One Piece, ASL Brothers reunion fic. This is probably a bit more well-read than should really be on this list, but frankly, I only stumbled across it by chance, and this writer’s take on the ASL bros dynamic has to be my favorite yet. And the best Sabo, honestly. I haven’t seen anyone else mention it in an ASL bros rec list till date, so here we go.

Extreme foolishness or unsound mind (defines insanity) by @aerialflight​ - Inception and Mad Max fusion. Eames-is-Max-is-Eames. Honestly, I love this fic so much. I might be a teensy bit biased since I’ve been around for the more recent plotting, but the idea is epic and should probably be seen by more people, just because of how much potential it has. Give it a whirl if you like either of the base series.

Fierce as Fire by chiiyo86 – FMA and AtlA crossover/fusion. With Ed as the Avatar. This borrows bending and some mythos from AtlA, but it’s still largely FMA. This was rec’ced to me by a friend, and is absolutely fantastic. So much fun to read!

Shining Delinquent Dragon by calikocat – Gokusen. For anyone who wanted to see what Season Two of the drama could have been like if Shin had been around! With added Shin/Yankumi. This is very well built, with plenty of screenshots and images to supplement it – enough so it feels like reading a visual novel of the drama. I remember having a lot of fun reading it, the first time around. Frankly, anything by calikocat is worth a look, especially if you enjoy BtVS, but this one definitely has a fond place in my heart.

Origin Story by creamycomet – Boku dake ga Inai Machi | ERASED. A canon divergent, what-if fic. Honestly, this one’s verging on For Want of a Nail – Yashiro befriends Satoru when they’re both still children. And Satoru’s presence in Yashiro’s childhood brings changes to many things. Primarily Yashiro’s abusive household. No time skips in this – they’re kids in all of what’s been posted so far.  This fic is gorgeous, I love everything about it, and I need more Yashiro fix-its for this fandom. And more platonic interaction for these two, okay. I just do.

Wild Things by Haberdashette – Daiya no A, MiSawa. What DnA could have been if it had been an urban fantasy while still sticking to the canon plot. The traces of the supernatural and the way it exists alongside regular life in this fic is fascinating. Such good worldbuilding.

Never Leave the Island by booksindalibrary – KHR, Gen. Tsuna is a Siren/Merman. Except this is before the canon plot – him being a human at all is because he’s kidnapped and sealed by Iemitsu and Timoteo. And I’ll reveal no more than this, for fear of spoilers. Gotta say, I love the way Tsuna’s been written in this. And the idea on the whole. Astral Projection! Non-human-and-mildly-terrifying-Tsuna! *starry eyes*

Fic Recs from my Works:

Of all my work, I’d have to say the Sailing Strange Seas series is probably what’s least well known, while also being something I’m ridiculously fond of. It’s a PotC and One Piece crossover; the series as a whole is set post-Dressrosa, pre-Whole Cake Island for One Piece, and post-trilogy for PotC. While taking On Stranger Tides with a pinch of salt. Here are the summaries for the two fics posted so far in the series:

Sailing Strange Seas - The crew of the Flying Dutchman fish out a strange pair of men from the waters of the Locker. And Will finds himself faced with men who are either unwilling to face their death, or are from rather further away than the land of the living. Luffy just wants to go on an adventure, and Zoro is caught between wanting to find a way back and simply waiting to see where this particular journey is likely to lead. Two very different sets of pirates are set face to face, and yet, some things remain the same.

Strangers in Strange Places - Elizabeth Turner née Swann was perfectly happy holidaying in Port Royal with her children or, at least, claimed to be perfectly happy holidaying in Port Royal, ridiculously cumbersome corsets and dresses notwithstanding. Well, making the acquaintance of a queer stranger on the streets of the Port should serve to keep her boredom at bay, if nothing else.

(Or: That one in which Law, separated from his travelling companions when they run through a portal after leaving Dressrosa behind, goes on a quest to track down his missing, troublesome not-allies. In his defense, following the rumours of a Pirate King in this strange, alien world seemed to make sense when he started out.)

Well, that’s it for my recs. This got longer than expected, in spite of removing a large part of the recs I’d wanted to add. I guess I’ll just have to make more rec lists over time, if people like my taste in fic. *wry grin*

So 8 years ago i wrote a tiny crossover drabble where Ron is jealous because Hermione is giggly about potions master Edward Elric. Now (ehm 7 years ago) that the manga ended, i think it could work nicely as post-canon FMA and au 6th year for HP. 

And I had this idea about why if magic and alchemy actually come from the same place (you know, the dragon pulse) but -using an imprecise metaphor- alchemist are like people using and making geothermal power stations (they are people taping on the energy through their knowledge and understanding of it) while wizarding people are actual volcanoes (they are natural occurring outlets of this energy and a part of its natural process). That’s why everybody can be an alchemist (in the same way everybody can be an engineer or really understand quantum physics) and wizards are born.

And this whole magic/alchemy thing also has a, not completely true but not actually fallacious, dichotomy between feeling-instinct-belief/knowledge-logic-understanding, as all of those would feed and support the others in the end.

(And wizards can become alchemists (and will have an easier time powering the transmutation, but not necessarily in the transmutation per se, as they need to understand the materials they are working and what are they doing to it).

On the other side, alchemists can´t use magic unless they were born with it (but those who have seen the Truth become like squibs…. but wizards who see the truth don’t lose their ability to use magic!!, I mean, unless it’s a toll, in this universe Nicholas Flamel greatest secret is that he lost his by making that philosopher stone.

And when/if Harry dies to kill the horcrux he will see the Truth and will be in theory able to make arrayless transmutations)

Other differences are that in this universe most magical effects will fade with time unless they are done in a certain way (that certain way is to have an understanding of what the heck are they doing to the thing and with the magic, something closer to alchemy because) transmutations are mostly definitive, unless you transmute them back.

And there are less wizards born in geographical zones where alchemy is more commonly used because there is less need for the world to vent energy (alchemists are also like miners venting gas pockets in a way) and wizards that began practicing alchemy young will not exhibit too big feats of accidental magic as the energy is otherwise used, and so they can expend their lives not knowing they are magical, they may just be unusually lucky.

And there are holes and exceptions, but that’s mostly it.  

Anyways, Ed Elric.

So, at the end of the manga he loses his ability to use alchemy and goes west while Al goes East. At some point one or both will encounter something that’s magic or more like magic as they find places where there are not many alchemists or that understand alchemy in different ways. At some point Ed will encounter potion making, and it is a lot like alchemy and writing and reading in code, because the ingredients and the way they are prepared not only have certain natural properties, they may have symbolic attributes that have effect on the potion (and so he stumbles on the Law of Association and eventually on all Laws of Magic cofcofthelawofknowlengecof cof cofthatbringscontrolandpowercof, and that actually helps him to accept magic and would make him an awesome wizard, but that’s another story and fic). And it’s something he can do, because plot devise it’s not alchemy, and because he saw the Truth he is close enough to magic.

He and Al end up studying magic, specifically potion making, a lot, and eventually Ed ends up a renowned and published Potions Master.

Meanwhile wizarding Britain (and all the others real world countries) that somehow plothole-y coexist with Amestris and its neighbour countries (but fma countries and some other fictional non-canonical countries are like, not part of the Statute of Secrecy) and somehow it’s the 1930’s because it is.

Ehm, meanwhile in wizarding Britain they have their wars with Voldemort and Harry can´t convince Slughorn to go back to Hogwarts (he does convince him to stop squatting on non-magical people’s houses because that’s awful, he gets smuggled out of the country to a safehouse or something where he is still in contact with the Order and Harry), so they get another renowned Potions Master (who may actually know quite a lot of soul magic, even if they aren’t aware until a later, critical point).

And so Edward Elric, 32, married with two children (they do have interest on alchemy, but have more interest on airplanes --now that the technology slowly made its way to Amestris -- and using alchemy to make more efficient airplanes) becomes a Hogwarts teacher.

I’m going to take the stories that I like working on from my wattpad account and post them here.

The following are the fanfics I’m posting here so far:

Haruhi’s Cousin- Alexa Flanel, or Alex to her friends was living peacefully in America until her parents died in an accident. Alex then goes to live with her Uncle Ranka and cousin Haruhi. She ends up getting a scholarship to Ouran just like Haruhi and everyone thinks she is a boy. Even the Host Club who figured out Haruhi was a girl doesn't figure it out. This takes place after the shows first season. Some events are kind like the first season.

The New Girl At Gakuen Alice- This is an AU manly about my OCs, Natsume x Mikan and a few other things. It focus on my OC Kagome Yukki and her story and how she changes after she gets closer to other people even after everything she has been through.

Mikan Sakura Elric- Mikan Sakura has a secret from everyone else except for family , an alice called the traveling alice. Mikan's mother Yuka also had this alice and went to Amestris, and married Mikan's dad Alphonse Elric in a different dimension. Mikan grew up going between until she was 6, when her mother died a couple weeks after her little brother Youichi was born, at the time she was upset not only had her mother died but now she can't she her family in Amestris. When she was 7 she found out about her traveling alice by accident. When Mikan was 10 she ended up in alice academy chasing after Youichi and her friend Hotaru. When she turned 12 she had to go to war as a state alchemist it was her duty and she survived the four year war but was a bit broken some of her friends had died. What happens when Mikan comes back to Gakuen Alice? Will Mikan ever be the same?
