Transiting Juno enters Libra
Friday, August 9 - Sunday, November 3, 2024
Caveat: this may not have a big impact on you personally unless Juno is prominent in your birth chart (closely in aspect to the Sun, the Moon, &/or an angle).
As you would expect, Juno loves to be in Libra. She’s powerful here in a “traditional” sense, working through the existing systems and structures to achieve her goals. Juno’s transit through Libra gives us a push toward equality and justice, as well as toward beauty and balance. In Juno’s areas:
All one-to-one relationships - equality is, I hope, the ruling principle. (Sometimes it’s social climbing.)
Protocol and social ritual - I would hope we take a more G B Shaw approach (Pygmalion): “The great secret, Eliza, is not having bad manners or good manners or any other particular sort of manners, but having the same manner for all human souls: in short, behaving as if you were in Heaven, where there are no third-class carriages, and one soul is as good as another.”
The powerless (women, battered wives, abused children, minorities, disabled, victims) - justice!
The atmosphere (weather, climate, storms) - straight line winds, usually. Concerns about air quality.
In every Libra placement’s life, comes a choice between what is superficially attractive, and what is deeper but less pretty. We misuse this transit by manipulating people and situations to get our own way; by “both siderism” (as the US press calls it); and by glossing over aor ignoring life’s less pleasant aspects. Honesty is the best policy, especially when conveyed in a thoughtful manner.
Saturday, August 10 - Juno/Libra trine Pluto Rx/Aquarius, 0°26’. Empowerment. We can establish deeply transformative relationships.
Tuesday, August 13 - Juno/Libra semi-sextile Mercury Rx/Virgo, 1°14’. Second of three; a niggling nagging feeling which may not clear up for a while.
Wednesday, August 28 - Juno/Libra (6°24’) semi-square Mercury Rx/Leo (21°24’). Very frustrating for communications; it’s like a minor irritation that balloons exponentially if we don’t stop and breathe through it.
Thursday, August 29 - Juno/Libra semi-sextile Sun/Virgo, 6°17’. More niggling, nagging feelings. We know we could do better.
Saturday, August 31 - Sunday, September 1:
Juno/Libra square Ceres/Capricorn, 7°34’
Juno/Libra opposite North Node/Aries, conjunct South Node/Libra, 7°55’
A simple way to look at this is to imagine conflict between one’s spouse and one’s parent. Different ways of doing things that don’t seem to have common ground. Tendency to manipulate family to get what we want, instead of being open and straightforward.
Tuesday, September 3 - Juno/Libra (8°23’) semi-square Mercury/Leo (23°23’). Third of three. If we’ve had some habitual way of communicating, we realize that not everyone is charmed by it.
Friday, September 6 - Juno/Libra conjunct Venus/Libra, 9°26’. Aw jeez! Very romantic, of course. Be sure that, if you must wear rose-colored glasses, your feet are firmly on the ground. Can also be manipulative.
Saturday, September 14 - Juno/Libra (12°12’) sesquiquad Uranus Rx/Taurus (27°12’). Pushing for radical change, but the timing is off.
Tuesday, September 17 - Juno/Libra semi-sextile Mercury/Virgo, 13°20’. Third of three, and by now we’re aware of where our communication skills are lacking.
Saturday, September 21 - Juno/Libra inconjunct Saturn Rx/Pisces, 14°59’. Painful reality we would rather not face, but need to adjust to.
Sunday, October 6 - Thursday, October 10:
Juno/Libra semi-sextile Vesta/Virgo, 20°07’
Juno/Libra conjunct Mercury/Libra, 20°43’
Juno/Libra trine Jupiter Rx/Gemini, 21°20’
Juno/Libra opposite Chiron Rx/Aries, 21°25’
Juno/Libra semi-sextile Venus/Scorpio, 21°45’
The main thing here is Jupiter sextile Chiron, and the opportunity for learning and healing. Juno gives that energy some perspective, and Mercury helps negotiate.
Wednesday, October 16 - Juno/Libra conjunct Sun/Libra, 23°25’. The beginning of a new Sun-Juno cycle. Good for integrating Juno energy into our basic identity.
Saturday, October 19 - Juno/Libra opposite Eris Rx/Aries, 24°55’. The day before Kamala Harris’ birthday! Andre Kahr (ProActive Astrology on YouTube) has talked about the Vice President representing Eris warrior energy. This opposition demands social justice for all.
Wednesday, October 23 - Juno/Libra inconjunct Uranus Rx/Taurus, 26°14’. Unexpected events demand adjustments. We struggle to balance our need for independence with our need for a partner.
Sunday, October 27 - Monday, October 28:
Juno/Libra inconjunct Neptune Rx/Pisces, 27°35’
Juno/Libra (27°57’) semi-square Venus/Sagittarius (12°57’)
Juno/Libra (27°58’) sesquiquad Saturn Rx/Pisces (12°58’)
The main thing here is the Venus/Sag - Saturn Rx/Pisces square, with Juno providing annoyance and friction (like a pebble in your shoe). Our timing is off; we’re getting mixed signals, at best. We feel triggered by something.
Saturday, November 2:
Juno/Libra semi-sextile Mercury/Scorpio, 29°45’
Juno/Libra square Pluto/Capricorn, 29°45’
Ending on such a sour note. If we’ve been thwarted, we aren’t very gracious losers; we use our words to destroy. Instead of working on a relationship between equals, we’re indulging in power struggles and toxic emotional blackmail. Use Mercury to think it through clearly.

Record Group 94: Records of the Adjutant General's OfficeSeries: Regimental and Company Books of Civil War Volunteer Union OrganizationsFile Unit: Regimental and Company Books of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment (Colored)
This item is a copy of a letter sent by Colonel Edward N. Hallowell to General Truman Seymour concerning the assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina. It is located in the volume of letters sent by the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Infantry.
[page number] 13 Head Quarters 54th Regt Mass Vols Morris Island S. C. Nov 7th 1863 To His Excellency John A. Andrew Governor. Stevenson I prefer not to make any other appointments until I learn more of the character of the applicants Very Respectfully E. W. Hallowell Col 54th Mass Vols Head Quarters 54th Mass Vols Morris Island S. C. Nov 7th 1863 Brig Genl. T. Seymour Comd'g U. S. Forces Morris S. C. Genl, In answer to your request that I furnish a report of the part taken by the 54th Mass Vols in the late assault upon Fort Wagner, I have to state, During the afternoon of the 18th of July last the 54th Mass Vols Col R. G. Shaw commanding landed upon Morris Island and reported at about 6 o'clock P.M. to Brig Genl. G. C. Strong. Col Shaw's com- [command][page number] 14 mmand [command] present, consisted of a Lieut Col of the field, a Surgeon, Adjutant, and Quartermaster of the Staff. Eight Captains and Eleven Subaltern officers of the line, and six Hundred enlisted men. Genl Strong presented himself to the Regt and informed the men of the contemplated assault upon Fort Wagner, and asked them if they would lead it. They answered in the affirmative. The Regt was then formed in column by wing, at a point upon the beach, a short distance in the advance of the Beacon House. Col R. G. Shaw commanded the right wing and Lt. Col. W. W. Hallowell the left. In this formation, as the dusk of the Evening came on, the Regt advanced at quick time, leading the column, the enemy opened upon us a brisk fire, our pace now gradually increased 'till it became a run. Soon cannister and musketry began to tell upon us. With Col Shaw leading, the assault was commenced. Exposed to the direct fire of cannister and musketry and as the ramparts, were mounted, to a like fire on our flanks, the havoc made in our ranks was very great. Upon leaving the ditch for the parapet, they obstanitly [obstinately] contested with the bayonet our advance. Notwithstanding these difficulties the men succeeded in driving the enemy from most of their guns, many following the enemy into the Fort. It was here upon the crest of the parapet that Col Shaw fell; here fell Capts Russel and Simpkins; here were also most of the officers wounded. The Colors of the Regt reached the crest and were then fought for by the enemy. The State Flag then torn from its staff, but the staff remains with us. Hand Grenades were now added to the missels [missiles] directed against the men. The fight raged here for about an hour, when compeled [compelled] to abandon the Fort the men formed a line about 700 yds from the Fort under the command of Capt Luis Emilio, the 9th Captain in the line, the other Captains were either killed or wounded. The Regt then held the front until relieved by the 10th Conn Regt, at about 2 o'clock A. M. of the 19th. The assault was made upon the South Face of the Fort. [full transcript at link]

Don Ottavio* Modern Prod Jobs Tierlist
* and Ottavio-like characters in adaptations
As far as I remember (although my memory has heavy biases), Ottavio seems to be the Don G character with the most random jobs assigned to him when in a modern day setting. It makes sense; in the original he’s nobility, and they don’t really work at all, so in a modern prod, they’ll assign him something to give him more character traits than “guy who likes his gf, like, THIS MUCH”.
Some of these are really bad though.
F:
Parking inspector (#UncleJohn, Toronto, 2014) For some reason, this adaptation changed Anna and Ottavio to be significantly poorer than Zerlina and Masetto. Why? I have no idea. Anna and the Commendatore get an okay lot, being Zerlina and Masetto’s wedding planners, but Ottavio is a particularly low-ranking cop. This is pretty irreconcilable with the text and the actual character, although it does make him look extremely pathetic.
D:
Soldier (Don Giovanni, Chicago Lyric Opera, various) I just find it really hard to believe that a soldier is so squeamish about killing.
C:
Unspecified white collar profession (various) Sometimes you just gotta put him in a nonspecific grey suit. Practical, but boring. Words that could describe the man himself?
B:
Architect (Don Giovanni, La Monnaie, 2020) I'm not really sure what them specifying his profession is supposed to do for the production, considering in practice he ends up being just Anna's boytoy and hot tenor eye candy, but this is a solid choice and I could see it happening.
Whatever tf Poodle Ottavio is doing (Don Giovanni, Salzburg Festival, 2021) Is he an arctic explorer with a dog for some reason? Is he a military captain? Is he a guy in a toga with four arms? Romeo Castelluci I demand answers
A:
Artist/poet and professional sillyboy (Shaw’s Man and Superman) Okay, Tavy Robinson is not really Don Ottavio. He’s a lot more naive and adorably stupid, but I put him on the list anyway. Because Tavy is so romantic and idealistic, this works for him pretty well, although I would object if this was used for an actual Ottavio.
Just some rich guy who doesn’t work (various) Probably the most logical updated version of his original character, since noblemen don't work and billionaires don't either. He wears classy grey suits everywhere because he can and so he can look as stylish as possible constantly along with his equally stylish wife.
Undercover cop (Peter Sellars Don Giovanni) Similar to Man and Superman, I consider the Sellars prod to be a completely separate story, but this choice works very well in the story it's trying to tell, and textually, it's not the worst either. Ottavio is trying to catch and kill a criminal, and he also achieves absolutely nothing. Peak American police behavior.
S:
I had a joke here about the La Monnaie 2014 Ottavio but honestly that production portrays this relationship in such a rapey way that I really don't want to mention it as a punchline. So pretend there's something actually cool and insightful here.
#operaposting#don giovanni#ofc the ideal don ottavio job is history teacher I mean look at cluth ottavio#don ottavio

Ooh. I sent these when I was last catching up on Tumblr via the "submit a post" option, but in case they didn't get through on there:
Some more Abraxasverse headcanons from me while I'm online, relating to bits of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. ;)
-
(1) Abraxasverse Verdugo, and Monarch's black ops division. Perhaps the Abraxasverse version of Verdugo, instead of being Monarch's deputy director, is in charge of Monarch's black ops? 'Cos I feel like Monarch as an organisation in any universe would have needed a black ops wing to handle the shadier stuff if their top brass and G-Team would have been uncomfortable having anything to do with it.
(2) Abraxasverse explanation for why pre-KotM Monarch still don't believe the Hollow Earth is real. 'Cos let's be honest, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters convoluted the issue of Monarch including the top brass denying Hollow Earth's existence in KotM even further with Shaw's 1982 incident, and with the glowing Vile Vortices and then the escape from Axis Mundi. (God, the Monsterverse's "loose canon" approach to internal continuity isn't doing it many favours. xP) Anyway, perhaps in the Abraxasverse version, Monarch doesn't believe in the HE until they travel into the submerged city in 2019, because in Abraxasverse: (a) it was perhaps a different organisation to Monarch who initially retrieved Shaw in 1982 and kept him locked him up until the present, plus (b) whether it was still Apex or a different organisation yet again who helped Tim, Hiroshi and Kentaro rescue the escapees from Axis Mundi in 2017, those benefactors made sure that word of the escapees and their Axis Mundi discoveries never made its way to Monarch then? Which could solve the issue of most of Monarch up to the top brass not believing 'til the Mass Awakening in the HE's existence?
(3) Vivienne's interactions with Shaw. Perhaps, if Shaw in Abraxasverse still had his breakout during the pre-Mass Awakening 2010s, Serizawa and Vivienne were a bit more involved in tracking him unlike how M:LoM all but forcing them to stay offscreen even when the Earth was at risk of imploding? Maybe Serizawa and Vivienne instead of Verdugo stepped in to personally interrogate Shaw in Alaska, and Old Shaw talked to them about his personal experiences with Eiji Serizawa, and he also spent a lot of the session making it clear to Serizawa and Vivienne's faces just what he thought of Serizawa's "let them fight" attitude? Maybe Vivienne had previously spent years looking up to Shaw for the part he played in building Monarch, but when she finally met Old Shaw, that view of him was a bit shaken by his attitude. And from there, when Shaw enacted his Anti-Monarch plans to stop the Titans emerging, it almost fully turned him into a Broken Pedestal in Vivienne's eyes?
(3.5) Additional Shaw-Vivienne, and Axis Mundi-related Dramatic Irony. Old Shaw would have likely become a Rebuilt Pedestal to Vivienne, if he still performs his sacrifice to get Keiko and his friends out of the Axis Mundi, somewhat making amends for getting Cate and May into that situation in the first place with his plan. However... the aforementioned coverup of the Axis Mundi's survivors under (2) would probably mean that Vivienne and Monarch never do find out anything about Shaw's sacrifice. (At least not until/unless the 2017 Axis Mundi rescuees including Keiko are revealed to Monarch sometime post-2020, maybe or maybe not at around one of the three times that Shimo, Battra and Spacegodzilla respectively emerge if the Old Monarch Trio are thematically compared to Battra, Shimo and Ozymandias.) So Vivienne's view on Shaw tragically, in a bit of Dramatic Irony, doesn't move past the Broken Pedestal stage?
(4) The Axis Mundi's black hole time distortion. I'm sceptical that something like that could have just appeared inside the planet by any natural means. If the Axis Mundi's time distortion still exists in the Abraxasverse, surely some major ancient Titan event in the Hollow Earth was involved in causing that time distortion to form. Maybe a big clash against Ghidorah in one of the Hollow Earth's upper-tunnels, involving another Titan whose powers when clashing with/mixing with Ghidorah's bio-electricity caused a permanent black hole effect to form? OR, depending on just how eldritch Bagan is made to be in the Abraxasverse, maybe Bagan was involved?
Oh, cool! These are good ideas, and it definitely helps to "patch in" more consistency for the internal goings-on of AbraxasVerse organizations, plus Vivienne's admiration of Shaw turning into a knee-jerk Broken Pedestal because of his Anti-Monarch sentiments and rejection of "let them fight". I kind of like the idea that Vivienne will go from nice and reasonable to "YOU INSULTED MY DAD. FUCK YOU. DISHONOR ON YOUR WHOLE BLOODLINE." (Ooh, Godzilla could have lost, you guys are stupid, wehhh! Two words, old man: Ford Brody. Your argument is invalid.)
I also like the Axis Mundi having some eldritch origin that no one is really certain of but might have been caused by Bagan. Will that idea be canonized? Well... who knows. I'm also a fan of things that don't necessarily have an explanation in-universe and out, because that adds an element of mystery. (Example: bioresonance in SIGNALIS, which might have some eldritch origin but no one knows for sure.)
