Ngl, hilarious to me that every time I do a double full page sketch for these dudes, I basically unlock a new character (this time it’s Bumblebee). Not much planned for him rn beyond “I think it’d be Really funny if Bumblebee got bitches and is the same age as Optimus”. (You can see I Struggled at first with him till I sat down and Stared at some reference pics and then Immediately deviated away from it). Also a bit of Elita which I expanded upon in my fav format, meme :)

Also Ngl, I knew she showed up for like 0.6 seconds before being Blasted, but when using her comic ver. (Used Tfwiki which was surprisingly mean? About her? Felt bad) I realized she looked Very bird like (you can hear me evil chuckling in the distance as I keep infusing more animal traits like it’s my job). Also ended up keeping her ability to move around on one leg bc Ngl having her brandish one of her legs at you while going Mach 5 is Very Funny.

Also, here’s one I like I call “Sentinel screaming at the matrix to pick his son (Oppy) as the next High Leader” (also context: going with High Leader as a replacement for Prime as that’s a frame type here instead of “king chosen by god” archetype)

Sari begins at the end of season 3. Peace is upon us now that Megatron has been captured by Triticon. Sari begins experiencing visions of fragmented Cybertronian memories. The visions lead her to a ship deep underground, where the Celestial Ark is located, containing the prototype AI Ogygia, storing the Cybertronian knowledge. Sari uses her advanced racer abilities and instincts fused with the Allspark to thwart the heist, and Drift stands up. A high-speed chase through the race circuit and the streets of Velocitron. Though Sari doesn't finish the race, her actions earn her the respect of Override and the Velocitrons, who come to see her as a true racer and ally.

A rebel Decepticon fleet led by Stryka invades Cybertronian space. Optimus on Earth decodes an encrypted warning embedded in Sari's Cybertronian vision. He tries to warn Sentinel. Sentinel ignores and accuses Optimus of undermining him. The fleet breaks through and wreaks havoc on Cybertron. This is around the time Megatron escapes from Trypticon!!!! Sentinel orders an all-out frontal attack resulting in heavy losses. Sentinel is also severely injured!!! [He has to spend a long time recovering]. Optimus operates from Earth and teams up with Ultra Magnus' old allies [Kup, Perceptor] to mount a counterattack to outwit the Decepticons. Megatron still escapes but thwarts the main attack. The High Council publicly reprimands Sentinel for his failure. Magnus is stripped of his title. Optimus is given the role. Optimus feels unworthy, but is encouraged by Sari and the team!Optimus becomes Magnus and begins implementing reforms to rebuild Cybertron and improve relations with other species. His leadership heralds a new era of unity and hope. The Sentinels return to Prime status.

Ratchet works with Arcee to recover her past, since she cannot remember everything (due to a disconnect).

Sari, Drift and Jazz train together to hone their fighting skills. The Allspark helps her with this. She is offered a place where ninjas like Jazz and Drift lived on Cybertron. She hesitates, because they don't like organics. But she can go there in robot mode. She enjoys her time there and learns more about Cybertronian culture.

Eventually Drift becomes mentally ill and paranoid. I think it will hurt his and Sari's friendship…

Pharma arrives on Earth and takes DJD to ex-con Drift to try to get him to release her from execution. Drift confesses to Sari that he is paranoid because of DJD and says he thinks Pharma brought them to kill him. Sari is hesitant to believe him. They make a plan… [I don't want to give away too many spoilers. It's interesting!] DJD is gone for now, but he is looming.

Megatron activates a signal that awakens sleeper agents hidden in the Cybertronian human-made technology [sumdac!!] and robotic technology, causing chaos in Detroit and on Cybertron. Bumblebee's Sari and Drift move to contain the chaos. She decodes part of the signal and realizes that it contains coordinates to a Decepticon cache hidden underground in Detroit. Megatron travels to the cache and retrieves the powerful weapon that was left behind earlier. The team intercepts. The Autobots engage directly, and Sari uses her techno-organic abilities to interface with the cache's security system and lock Megatron out. However, the process triggers another memory fragment in the Allspark, temporarily paralyzing her with a vision of the origins of the Decepticon rebellion. Megatron confronts her, taunting her with the idea that an Allspark-infused body would make her more Decepticon than Autobot. Despite her fear, she overcomes the vision and uses the cache's defense mechanisms to outwit Megatron, forcing him to retreat. Back at the base, Sari reflects on Megatron's words and the visions she experienced. Ratchet reassures her that her choices define who she is, not where she came from.

There is also a plot thread in which Megatron attempts to harness the power of the Allspark still remaining in Sari's body. He attempts to extract that power from her body. As Megatron begins the extraction process, Sari experiences a series of intense visions, reliving key moments in the Allspark's history. These visions include the creation of the Cybertronians, the rise of Megatron, and the Allspark's decision to merge with her. In these memories, the Allspark appears as a presence, encouraging Sari to fight back and reminding her that she is not just a vessel, but the guardian of its legacy. Sari channels her connection with the Allspark and disables Megatron's machines. She uses the Allspark's energy to temporarily paralyze Megatron and disable the base's systems. The Autobots escape and rush to her aid, but Sari insists on confronting Megatron directly: she uses her techno-organic ingenuity to manipulate the base's technology, creating an overload that forces Megatron to retreat to avoid destruction.

As the base falls, the Autobots allow Sari to escape. Sari is exhausted but victorious. Afterwards, she confides in Optimus and Ratchet about her vision and her fear that she is merely a tool for the Allspark's power. She spends a lot of time in the Cybertron library, uploading her vast knowledge into datapads and computers, and teaching history to children. She finds it fun! She becomes best friends with Arcee, who also teaches! [She remains in her robot form when on Cybertron] Sentinels start following her, trying to figure out who this little robot is. He thinks it's a cute little robot!

There are other details not written here [still in work, such as predacons!]. But overstaying his welcome, it's hard to find the courage to continue. In this story it takes 10 years before Sentinel meets her… 7 years before he is able to speak to her [she knows he hates organics so she is desperately trying to avoid him!!!] and he is determined to speak to this little bot once and for all!

This is around the time i have written, I have more to plot, but I believed, with how much is here written, it could be smart to start drawing comic now! But it is fruitless.

One universal rule about Arcee’s, it is never easy to become friends with Arcee, at least in the beginning. She naturally has her guard up at all times meeting anyone new. She is slow to trust but fast to anger thanks to her short fuse.

As much as she would want to trust someone, most of the time they end up as a kebab. That being said, she doesn’t turn everyone away, it just takes some time for her to get used to them.

Now, Arcee has known Buddy for a bit, occasionally having a conversation with them or being assigned with them on scouting missions. She doesn’t know about Buddy being a monoformer right off the bat. Not that Buddy told her anyways. Buddy is very hesitant to tell most of their teammates about them being a monoformer. Buddy has only told a selected few about it. The reason that they don’t tell everyone is that they know that there is still some prejudice against monoformers out there. They also do not have the time to deal with that. They are fighting a war; they don’t need some bot on their backside going on about how much of a horrible their life choices were.

 It takes a few runs in with the Decepticons for Arcee to realize how often Buddy stays in their bi-pede mode instead of transforming. In fact, as far as Arcee has known Buddy, she had never seen Buddy transform before.

One mission Arcee decides to solve the mystery.

“What’s your altmode anyways? Never seen you transform before, there a reason for that?”-- Arcee

“I don’t have one.”--Buddy

“What?”--Arcee

“This is my one form Arcee. One, that’s it.”—Buddy

This response causes Arcee to freeze a bit finally realizing what Buddy meant.  She had heard of monoformers before and thought they were useless in a way. If you could transform, why give that up? Why just stay in one mode forever?

Buddy takes Arcee’s silence as disgust.

"I don't regret what I did Arcee. I didn't want to transform anyways. That's my personal business and I don't care what you or the Counsil back on Cybertron thinks as well. My T-cog, my decision."--Buddy

Arcee and Buddy didn’t talk much after that mission. After a few hours, Arcee beginning to understand most of Buddy’s points from the discussion earlier. She feel a bit accountable for Buddy being in such a foul mood for the rest of the week. She wants to talk about it but doesn’t know how to approach the conversation.

Eventually they do end up talking on another mission. There is some awkward tension in the air. Arcee decides now is the time to talk.

“…You know, you never let me answer what I thought about you being a monoformer.”--Arcee

“Your silence was enough. Now lets just get back to base.”--Buddy

“No not until you let me talk.”--Arcee

“Arcee standing in front of me isn’t going to work.”--Buddy

“Are you sure about that?”--Arcee

“…What is there to talk about?”--Buddy

“I… I wanted to apologize on how I took that. You’re a great bot, with or without a T-cog. Your just living the best version of your self. I know if you still don’t forgive me for—”--Arcee

“I’m going to stop you right there. Arcee you had me at the apology, we are good now.”--Buddy

“…Race you to the groundbirgde?”--Arcee

“Only if you play fair. No bikes allowed.”--Buddy

“Fair enough.”--Arcee

Arcee does ask some questions of what it is like to have only one mode and how they get around sometimes. Buddy is patient in answering the questions.

“If you could have to choose between flying or staying in the ground what would you chose?”--Arcee

“Probably the ground in a hypothetical situation, though I would mind flying.”—Buddy

Arcee is now on Buddy’s corner.

If Buddy is small enough or can mass displace enough and there is trouble Arcee has now become a getaway bike. Will and has throw servos at anyone who makes Buddy feel bad about being a monoformer. She does not tolerate this at all.

In return Buddy does their best to be by Arcee’s side, even when she says she doesn’t need it. She is grateful to have a friend as Buddy, not many friends like them are left in this world.

If Buddy is within a 50-mile radius near Arachnid, Arcee is activliy shoving them into the groundbridge. Buddy will not be dying on her watch.

“Arcee! We aren’t even close to her! Quit shoving so hard!”--Buddy

“Fat chance Buddy. Now move your behind into the bridge, we’re leaving!”--Arcee

Crack ne shot. Jaz, Cliffjumper, arce, strongarm and windbalde just back from mission and didn't know about Sam that turn into cybertron.

*Optimus tell jazz team about samturn into cybertron. And for weeks it's not good for him specially his sparkling programing kind domain for weeks and his human personalities is classing with his cybertron body, so he will be very sensitive and fussing*

Optimus : .. And that what happened.

Jazz: poor guy.

Cliffjumper: yeah, can't imagine the horror he felt.

Arcee: now where is he? *have little exited in her voice*

*Optimus pointed to bumblebee that have mini boy Sam in his arms and Sam look about to cry and bumblebee look trying his best to make Sam calm*

Windbalde: why he with bumblebee?

Optimus: well Sam is more close with bumblebee rather than the rest also he more calm with him

*jazz and his team come close to bumblebe*.

Jazz: hey bumblebee. *bumblebee immediately shush jazz but too late Sam get fussy again*

Arcee : awww ,come here *Arcee take Sam from bumblebee hand and close him to her face and nuzzle him. Sam not fusing again and rubbing his face to Arcee face. Bumblebee look puzzled*

Bumblebee: how-that. I need hour for calm Sam down.

Jazz : you know what they say about some touch that calm your down

Cliffjumper : also femmes are more sensitive to sparkling, not like us mech can't take care sparkling but it's just they are more good.

*bumblebee muttered and about to take Sam but Arcee move away glared at bumblebee and start cooing sam, then strongarm and windbalde cooing Sam and take trun to carrying him*

Bumblebee: I like Sam that finally not fusing again but his my friend.

*bumblebee look about forcing to take Sam but jazz and cliffjumper stop him*

Jazz : you know what they said take baby from their mother is bad thing and these femmes in their mothering program right now.

Cliffjumper: yeah, if you forced to take Sam these femmes will kill you

Bumblebee: I don't care i want my sam back.

*jazz and cliffjumper look each other and nod then bumblebee dragged away by two of them*

Cliffjumper: sorry bumblebee it's for your own good

Jazz: wait until these femmes mothering program calm down if it's not we will call ratchet.

The Beauty and the Predacon

Chapter 9

Arcee's spark raced as she watched the doors close concealing her away from the rest of the ship and leaving her alone with the Predacon. She's not sure how he intends to mate with her and she really doesn't want to find out, but seeing as she has no way to get away she'll have to go through whatever the mating process is. Maybe he can help her escape at some point.

Predaking looks at Arcee sympathetically as he kneels to get closer to her level, he can tell she's scared and nervous. He gently turns her to face him, being careful not to hurt her with his claws, "Arcee, I'm sure the thought of mating with me seems scary to you but I assure you I will not hurt you in any way. I will be a good mate and I will protect you and keep you safe."

Arcee just looks at him unsure of what to say. She has no doubts that he will keep her safe but she's perfectly capable of taking care of herself. When Predaking gets into a sitting position she allows him to pull her into his lap, she's afraid to find out what he will do to her if she refuses to cooperate. She sits in his lap with her legs on both sides of his hip still facing him as she waits for him to make his next move.

Predaking tilts his helm downwards as he starts kissing her on her neck, "Open up," he says near her audio receptor. It came out as a demand but was still soft.

Arcee gasped when she felt her spark move forward to get closer to him and her body started heating up. It's as though her spark wants to fuse with his. But how can that be when she doesn't love him? She follows his demand and opens up her spark chamber. Primus, why does it have to be spark bonding?

Predaking softly runs his claws over her body as he continues to kiss her on her neck. Once she opens up her spark chamber he opens up his own. Arcee could see his yellow spark shining as it tried to fuse with her spark but her spark was pulling back with uncertainty.

"Fuse!" Predaking growled softly before he bit her on the neck. Arcee's helm fell back as she gasped and closed her optics, her spark had suddenly lunged forward into his as though it was following his command. Arcee let out a moan as she moved her body closer to his, his spark was slightly cold but still felt good against her own spark.

Predaking moans into her neck as he wraps his arms around her to hold her firmly against him. At last, she belongs to him and only him. She's his mate and he's hers. He can tell there's no love for him in her spark but that will soon change, he will win her love. He's new to this mating thing so he doesn't know how a sparkbond works or what comes with it, he just recently researched it and read up on how to do it. He'll just have to find out while being sparkbonded to Arcee.

When the bonding is complete, Predaking removes his mouth from her neck and moves back, he gets his spark back into the chamber as he closes his chest and he helps Arcee do the same. Arcee is exhausted, between the bite to mark her and the sparkbonding her body is worn out. She lays her helm on his chest with optics still closed as she hopes and prays that they won't be fragging next.

Predaking can hear her thoughts in his processor, must be part of the sparkbonding, "Don't worry, we won't do that just yet. I'll wait on that until you're ready."

Arcee opens her optics and looks at him in surprise but then she remembers hearing about how bots can hear each other's thoughts when sparkbonded. She lays her helm back down on his chest, "Thank you for understanding." She's gonna have to be careful with her thoughts from now on.

Predaking doesn't respond, he just lays back with Arcee lying on top of him and they both drift off into recharge.

When Arcee wakes up she finds herself in Med Bay. Why is she in Med Bay and what happened to Predaking? Wait. Who is Preda...? The Predacon, it seems he named himself Predaking. Arcee sits up and looks around the room, there's no sign of Predaking or Knock Out or any of the 'Cons. She begins to get off the berth when she suddenly starts feeling small pains all over her body. What is going on?

She can understand the pain in her neck since that's from the bite but she doesn't understand why she's feeling pain in other parts of her body. She finally comes to the conclusion that it's coming from Predaking, when you're sparkbonded not only can you read each other's thoughts but you can also feel each other's pain and feelings. Right now she feels anger and rage coming from Predaking, he must be fighting the Autobots. Whoever they are she hopes he doesn't kill them.

She flinches as more pain comes in, they're really small pains so they don't hurt too badly but she still hates feeling them. She hisses as she grabs her left arm, sharp pains suddenly hit her arm as if two swords pierced her armor. Two swords... The only one on the team that uses swords like that is Wheeljack, so Wheeljack is one of them Predaking is fighting. How many exactly are there? Before she felt as though she was being hit with a hammer, so maybe Optimus is there too.

Arcee looks over to the door when she hears it open and sees Shockwave walk into the room, "You're awake. How are you feeling?"

"In pain, all over the place. Apparently, Predaking is in a fight with my comrades and I can feel every hit they land on him."

"It seems I need to talk to him about sparkbonding and tell him how what he does affects you as well."

"Where did he go anyway?"

"The Autobots found my offsite laboratory and they attacked it, Predaking went there to stop them and save the other Predacons."

Arcee was relieved that her team did figure it out and they stopped Project Predacon but she had a feeling that it was some sort of setup, it was too easy for them to find it. The Decepticons are up to something and it involves her team and her new mate. She was interrupted from her thoughts when she winced from the new pain that shot throughout her body. "Scrap. I feel like a mountain fell on me."

Predaking! She tries calling out to her mate through the bond but she can't seem to get through. He seems to be too outraged and too focused on destroying the Autobots. Predaking, come in! Still no response. They're both new to the whole bonding thing so they both still need to figure it out.

"Megatron wishes to see you," Shockwave tells her. She gets off the berth and heads for the door with Shockwave right behind her. As they walked through the corridors, Arcee thought over the recent events that had happened to her. She was taken prisoner by Shockwave and then made to follow them around the ship like a dog, then she was made to stay with the Predacon so he could guard her and now she's mated with him. All she wants is to return to her team, her friends, and go back to the way things had been. She needs to escape somehow and get back to her team.

They finally reach the bridge where Megatron is along with Starscream, Soundwave, and Knock Out and they walk up to them. Megatron turns around to face her, "Arcee, glad to see you finally up and about. The mating must have really taken it out of you, you had been out of it for quite some time."

Arcee glares at him, "It exhausted me at first but I'm fine now." She really hates this mech, he had no right to give her away to be mated like that. She always thought that she would choose who she would mate with and she always thought that she would mate with a fellow Autobot, she never saw herself mating with a Decepticon. Especially not with a Predacon.

"Well, I'm glad the mating went well and you're still functioning," Megatron says trying to seem sincere but Arcee knew it was fake.

:: Lord Megatron, I need a Ground Bridge. :: Predaking's voice came in over the comlink.

"Soundwave..." Megatron didn't need to speak any further as Soundwave knew what to do. Soundwave opens up a Ground Bridge and a very enraged Predaking comes walking through, "What happened, Predaking?"

"The Autobots destroyed my Predacon brethren! I almost destroyed the two that did it but then I was attacked from behind by another one, when I looked I saw him grabbing the other two and flying off! I went after them but they went into a Ground Bridge before I could get to them!" Predaking explained as his anger rolled off him in waves. Arcee felt a bit frightened with all the anger she was feeling from him. He's so angry with the Autobots and she is still an Autobot. Will he turn his anger on her?

Obviously Auriga (Optimus and Ratchet) is the most stable and comfortable. They will fuse sometimes simply to enjoy the togetherness, and on the rare occasions they go out into the field together, but for the most part their differing roles make it more practical to remain separate. Optimus's most frequent fusions would be with Bulkhead or Arcee.

Optimus and Bulkhead are incredibly large and strong, not quite round but very stocky. One arm turns into a big wide blade and the other into a mace. They are a menace on the battlefield, with the sheer power to overwhelm opponents and Optimus tempering Bulkhead's brute force style with some of his own grace and deliberation. Optimus takes the lead outside of combat, but when the action gets heavy they fight as one.

Optimus and Arcee are basically Optimus-sized but slightly taller, and with weight redistributed for balance. Terrifyingly agile despite their size. They have a pair of thinner secondary arms (like Arcee with Blue's Ratchet) which they utilize very effectively, especially in close quarters or when facing multiple opponents. They're stable unless Arcee's trauma is triggered, in which case her rage and aggression can cause them to break apart.

Optimus and Bumblebee fusion is... complicated. Bee is not a warrior... he is baby, which makes Optimus more reluctant to combine with him for combat. They can form a stable fusion with no extra features or appendages (and illegally large adorable beautiful optics), but it's based strongly around both of their trauma and carrying too much weight and responsibility—OP by sheer volume and Bee by being far too young for what he's had to deal with. Their fusing will often result in Optimus trying to take on his burdens and support/comfort him. Bee would try to support him in return but Optimus will not allow it. It's a very parent and child combination rather than equal partners.

Smokescreen would need to have matured a little before a fusion would be successful. I'm thinking like, by the episode where Megatron breaks the Star Saber and he waits for the right moment to save Optimus rather than just impulsively going at Mega, that little hint of maturity could provide a basis, and will grow from there. They still wouldn't be stable at that point, and could break apart easily. Later, when Smokescreen is mature enough to refuse to take the Matrix, they would be able to fuse much more stably. Two optics, four arms. Fusing would further help Smokescreen to grow as Optimus shares with him all the complexities of the world, and Smokescreen would bring a sense of optimism and hope that Optimus sometimes feels he's lost.

Optimus and Ultra Magnus would be very large, strong, and efficient. Four optics, two arms, basically a giant and more heavily armored version of their shared frame shape. They make a highly effective battle commander, combining OP's motivational abilities with Magnus's tactical skills. Optimus's softer outlook occasionally conflicts with Magnus's pragmatism, but they're both mature enough to be able to work it out.

Optimus and Wheeljack can combine only if they have a very specific mission (like saving Bulkhead from Dreadwing) and are not particularly stable. Four optics, four arms, can easily separate if something causes them to disagree.

.... Speaking of Dreadwing, he and Optimus would actually make a quite stable fusion. No extra features or appandages, just a very strong, intelligent, and honorable warrior. They would probably separate soon after the fusion ceased being necessary but it would be by choice (mostly from Dreadwing's end, which OP will respect).

... Orion and Megatronus would have two optics and four arms if they fused prewar, but Optimus and Megatron would have four optics and two arms. Originally they had a shared ideal but very different ways to go about it. Later their goals completely diverge... but if they need to face a common threat, such as Unicron, their actions are in sync. They're stable until the alliance ends, at which point their vastly conflicting morals will pit them against each other once more.

Edit:

Optimus and Elita One (my version of her) would be kind of.... mid level in stability. Optimus is cooperative by nature and Elita is willing to work with whomever she needs to in order to further a goal, but they don't see quite eye-to-eye—Elita is pragmatic and decisive, a bit like Ultra Magnus but more... independent. Their fusion has four optics and four arms, the latter of which are arranged diagonally to each other rather than vertically and can all become either blades or guns. Their cooperation in battle tends to take the form of one leading and then the other, while outside of combat their disagreements will eventually lead to them choosing to separate.

i've had several discussions with people regarding this sort of thing. i do not understand the hype around skybound's unrelenting violence when it does literally nothing for the plot whatsoever. what is the point of killing off, or removing characters from the plot in a significant way if they're nothing burger characters.

like, skywarp was promoted as a serious villain. and he would be a really good antagonist considering his outlier abilities. i was very excited to see how the writer's would utilize his teleportation in a way that would work with the sheer amount of violence that they were throwing into the panels. having him teleport partially into a bot to rip out their internals would be interesting, same goes for having him teleport into secure locations and quickly teleporting out because it would provide a serious amount of threat story wise. never knowing when your enemy will strike is a really good motivation to stop him as soon as possible

and instead, he gets brutally ripped apart like he's a background character.... and it just disappointed me so much. like what's the point of me feeling sorry for him when he's had like no character development. obviously as shown by the latest issue, he's not 100% dead, just fused into the ark and brain damaged. but that's still shitty.

i don't care about soundwave or starscream or any of the decepticons because the story doesn't bother to develop them as characters. even the autobots are disappointing. like, yeah sure cliffjumper is getting the spotlight but we still don't really know anything about him. starscream killed his clan, what the fuck does that mean? what is a clan? who was part of his clan? obviously they meant a lot to him but if we don't know the characters who were lost, then we don't really have the ability to get emotionally attached in a meaningful way. same goes for arcee. she's got the same story as cliffumper, the decepticons killed her clan, but i don't know any of the people she did so i don't particularly care

OP is right about the starscream thing. i don't know anything about him. sure it's cool that he's allowed to be a violent piece of shit, but why is he acting like that? does he have a reason for being so violence? is it a byproduct of being a decepticon? is megatron responsible for his mental decline (because starscream is nothing if not smart and he's very clearly desperate in this continuity)?

it's very telling that i managed to read only 3 issues of this comic and only got the vibe that it was the original g1 cartoon but with less comedy and more violence. and it doesn't do anything for the story. what's the point of so much violence and repeated character death? cause i've just become desensitised to it all. i've stopped caring when character's get hurt because they'll either die and never get shown again, or they'll come back and be perfectly fine.

it's a very clear example of telling instead of showing and it's a disappointment.

maybe i'm just petty about idw 2 getting cut short, but i don't think skybound deserves the level of praise it's been getting. it's poorly written, kills off characters without any reason or benefit to the plot, and generally is worse in every way from the previous comics i've read in the transformers series.

i know we're only like 8 issues into the series but i'm not hopeful that we'll get any development considering the writers seem more focused on showing an unnecessary amount of violence rather than actually telling a story

i can appreciate the few moments of neatness that we've gotten, but overall i think this series is a disappointment. they could've chosen to create a genuine comic centred around the trauma of a war, maybe something actually centred on cybertron and it's culture, but instead we just got g1 cartoon but worse

People are raving about Skybound Transformers and I'm just sitting here like "This comic is so committed to being G1 But Edgy that it's not actually bothering to develop its characters before they get killed off."

Optimus and to a lesser extent Cliffjumper are the only ones who feel at all more three-dimensional than their G1 toy bios. I feel like I know more about fucking G.I. Joe Man than I do about this version of Starscream, who was the main villain of the comic until last issue.

Like, what do we know about Skybound Starscream's personality? He likes killing people and he was allegedly friends with Jetfire. I say 'allegedly' because he lasts all of a page before killing Jetfire for not immediately throwing in with the Decepticons. There's not even a token attempt at manipulation, the fucking cartoon did more with this idea than Skybound did.

The badly-animated 23-minute toy commercial with the budget of two coffee beans and some pocket lint is not a high bar to clear.

And hey, how about a different example? How about Skywarp's sorta-death?

Skywarp gets ripped apart in Issue 4, and used to repair Teletraan 1 so the Decepticons can revive more of their guys. But... why? They're currently surrounded by dozens of corpses they could cannibalise instead, many of whom are much less useful to the cause than the teleporting fighter jet. Like fuck, you've got three of Reflector and he's nearly always useless. The only reason this doesn't immediately backfire on Soundwave is that when the Autobots retake the Ark, Wheeljack accidentally reactivates what's left of Skywarp's brain and he starts blocking their efforts to revive more Autobots. Congratulates my guy, you turned the teleporting fighter jet into a minor software bug, and him being anything besides a corpse wasn't even intentional.

But you can make this work. Let's say that there's a reason Soundwave needs Skywarp gone. Maybe Skywarp, as a Seeker, is ultra-loyal to Starscream, and being as powerful as he is, makes Screamer's position as the leader of the Decepticons basically unassailable. The only way Soundwave can depose Starscream is to first trick him into helping eliminate Skywarp.

And like that, all three Decepticons get some extra character. Soundwave's manipulative side is put on display, an aspect of his character that often gets left out. Starscream's cruelty and ineptitude as leader is elaborated on by demonstrating that he doesn't reward loyalty, being more likely to backstab even someone who has always had his back if he's convinced it will benefit him. Skywarp gets a personality trait before he's violently killed, and now him dying means something other than another demonstration of weirdly organic robo-gore.

Instead we get "Starscream, we need to kill one of our most dangerous soldiers instead of literally any of these other assholes we've got lying around. I am a better leader because this worked out for me accidentally."

Just like that time with the science project, he proceeds to point out all the things that people do wrong and Miko opposes him to rile him up

He takes the bait

Optimus has to stop them when wheeljack starts building a "harmless bomb that can't hurt anyone"

but in the end all who participated had fun- ratchet will offline before he admits it tho but he did

jack caught him smiling while organizing stuff in one of the storage units but he won't mention it for his sake

Arcee

A feral miko approached her followed by a panting jack

"why don't I like the sound of this?"

Miko had to assure her it's fine and that they won't post anything so the 'bots won't get exposed

She showed her some of the mobility challenges and stuff with.. Say parkour and flips and that

She was reluctant at first but gave in when Miko provoked her saying she couldn't do it anyway

And cee was feeling particularly competitive when smokescreen joined in halfway

Which made her do a flip with a bit too much strength and illicit an "I needed that!"

Regardless of the collateral damage Arcee felt refreshed from hanging out with the kids (smokescreen included in "the kids" he's my baby)

Bulkhead

He was off-roading with miko when she brought up the idea

"film a what??"

She explained and he agreed under the condition he won't do anything that requires grace

miko agreed but said they're gonna work on that self confidence when they get back to base

she decides on doing a strength based challenged and points to a group of boulders of different sizes

she starts the vid with only her in the frame and lifting a big rock with one hand then it cuts to her lifting a bigger one with Both her hands and then it cuts to her sitting a Boulder and it starts to rise from the ground and before it gets too high she jumps off and turns the camera around showing bulk lifting the Boulder above his head with one servo

hes very pleased with the results and shows it to the others when they get back

and they do have that talk about bulks view of himself

Since both parts of her have different kinds of confidence, she'll be the master of strength as well as knowing the enemy well. What if Jack, Miko, and Raf could fuse with the Autobots?

It comes as a shock to everyone when it’s revealed that humans can actually fuse with Cybertronians. After much deliberation, Ratchet concludes that it has to do with Unicron being the center of the planet and, in a way, responsible for the creation of humanity. Therefore, humans are compatible with Cybertronian physiology in the loosest terms possible.

Team Prime is at a bit of a loss on how to feel. On the one hand, they’ve seen fusion a few times - mostly with Mack - and they’ve gathered that it’s usually a pleasant experience. It’s apparently the sort of thing that you can’t ever really truly describe; you have to experience it to understand it.

On the other hand, there’s a bit of a disposition concerning how well fusion between a technological and organic being would work. It’s not like they have any examples of any kind to go off of for reference. Ratchet advises against it, mostly because they really have no idea what would happen. Optimus hesitantly agrees. There isn’t an all-out ban, per-say, but there is a sort of silent agreement to avoid the subject of fusion concerning them around the children. Smokescreen, Wheeljack, and Ultra Magnus are pulled over to the side to have the logistics of it all explained to them.

Miko really wants to try it, mostly because she wants to be a huge, ass-kicking robot, but also because it’s one of the few things about being human she wants to experience firsthand with her friends. 

Jack is curious, but he’s a lot more subtle about it than Miko. He’s only fused with Miko a few times, and one time with both Miko and Rafael, so he doesn’t have a ton of experience. He’s of the mind that if he fuses with one of the bots, he’ll be there to help them through the experience. 

Raf definitely wants to try fusion again, but he also wants to have more research done before anything happens. He’s also most likely to not really say anything unless someone outright asks him. He doesn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, especially since not a lot of kids his age fuse very often.

The first two to fuse are, oddly enough, Jack and Arcee. They had just gotten back from a mission and had been celebrating. Arcee, still revved up, had offered to go for a ride, and Jack had agreed. Only Arcee took Jack’s hand before she began to transform, and before she had the chance, they were both glowing bright and phasing into each other.

They stayed like that for all of maybe a minute before splitting apart. Arcee is crying, and Jack’s doing his best to console her. The others try to talk to Arcee about it later, but she doesn’t want to discuss it at all.

It’s not until much later that they learn that she wasn’t upset about fusion, but overwhelmed with the feelings that it created in her. It’s the calmest she’s felt since Cliffjumper offlined. It was just so much.

Miko and Bulkhead were next. They were jamming out to Slash Monkey in the base when Miko tripped over her amp cord. Bulkhead caught her just in time, and the next thing they knew, they had fused. It’s a lot for them, and for the other bots. Bulkhead takes to fusion like a champ, and the others are much more intrigued now.

When Rafael and Bumblebee fuse for the first time, it’s during a car chase with a group of Vehicons. Bee had been driving down the highway on the way to their favorite spot to race Raf’s model car when he’d noticed they were being tailed. They’d tried to lose them before pulling off. Bee had tried to get Raf to hide, but Raf had been feeling rather brave, and refused to leave.

He’d taken one of Bee’s digits in his hand and told him they were in this together. 

By the time the Vehicons showed up, the Autobot signal was distorted in a strange way, and the being they found was definitely NOT the Autobot scout.

Optimus is having a heart-to-heart with Jack shortly after the Orion Pax incident when Jack threw his arms around Optimus’ servo in a desperate embrace. No one was there to witness their fusion, but they stayed like that for a few minutes, simply enjoying the feeling that fusion allows two people to feel. They haven’t spoken about it to the others - not out of shame, but out of unspoken respect. Their fusion just felt like one of those things that they didn’t need to explain to others.

Ratchet first experience with fusion is the only one that doesn’t come as a surprise to him. It’s also not with any of the children. It’s with June Darby.

Ever since Rafael’s exposure to dark energon, June has been coming to the base to have weekly discussions with Ratchet about human biology and physiology. It’s during one of these visits that Ratchet gather the courage to ask about fusion. He explains how almost all of his teammates have done it already, and apart from his own curiosity, he feels a genuine sense of responsibility for their safety. He wants to understand fusion so he can properly help when he is needed. 

June does her best to explain the logistics of fusion to him, as well as retelling her own personal experiences with fusion. She can tell Ratchet is getting frustrated due to lack of understanding, so she outright offers to fuse with him.

Once he gets past all his blustering and stalling, Ratchet agrees.

Needless to say, he and June become much closer friends afterwards.

All in all, fusion is a very emotional, personal thing for them all. Each relationship they have effects how they feel, appear, and behave. 

But they wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Unpopular Opinion: I find Transformers Prime to be overrated. At least as far into the series as I've gotten (about 8 episodes of S1) I mentally compare it to Animated and find it wanting. I'm not really digging the writing, and I'm not a fan of the art style or character designs, either. The eyes are weird and would look better with lenses over them. Where are their noses? WHERE ARE THEIR NOSES???

Optimus reminds me too much of the Bayverse design for me to like it, Bulkhead is a less enjoyable version of his Animated self, I actively hate Starscream and Soundwave's designs, and Megatron is "What if Bayformers Megatron didn't look like Scraplets ate all of his skin". I also hate the "mindless drone cannon fodder" Decepticon troops. At least make them Seekers or something if you're going to do that, but I'd rather have actual characters. AND WHERE ARE THEIR NOSES GOD IT LOOKS SO WEIRD

Optimus, wondering where his nose is

Megatron shows up in the first episode rambling about Dark Energon with zero setup or backstory. We don't even see him really do anything before he fuses himself with it so there's no basis for comparison for seeing him *after* he's fused with it. Cliffjumper dies like 2 minutes into the first episode and thus I feel nothing (yes, you can empathize with his friends' grieving but I felt zero emotion from it).

Generally the show starts off feeling like the beginning of a second season, we’re dropped into the middle of the story with nothing grounding this version of the universe. It's in medias res but not done well, because instead of feeling hooked into the plot and wanting to know more, I'm just left feeling like I missed something. Animated started off after the war as well, with the Decepticons coming back, but it also established the setting well and generally did everything better than Prime.

It’s just better. A LOT better.

Do the human characters ever become even remotely tolerable? Because so far I can't stand any of them. The kids are all high-key annoying, and Fowler is so incompetent he may as well be actively working with the Decepticons. Why was he randomly flying a jet through the desert, in a suit and tie no less? Just so that one Decepticon whos name I can't remember could scan the jet? They'll do things that make no sense or just go nowhere (Jack wants to leave because of the danger oh no wait he's back, nice plot cul de sac there, writers) and generally do nothing but make me appreciate the utter lack of humans in Cyberverse more than I already did. They DO have noses, though, there is that.

In the plus column, however, I do enjoy this version of Ratchet, and Arcee is the reason I'm going to keep watching the series because I really like this take on her. I keep hearing how great the show is from everyone, and I'm really trying to like it, but so far I just feel like it doesn't live up to the hype.

To be honest I like Mikaela be ratchet headmaster because well they can repair autobots so yeah someone like that definitely will not placing in front of battlefield.

OptimusPhillip Reviews 27: Studio Series 52 Chromia, Arcee, and Elita-1

Christmas is coming soon, and while I can’t be sure of what I’m getting, I’d like to review a recent acquisition beforehand just in case I end up getting more this year. This is the Studio Series 52 three-pack of Chromia, Arcee, and Elita-1 from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Motorcycle Modes

According to TFWiki, all three of these figures turn into their bike modes from the movie; Chromia is a Suzuki B-King, Arcee is a Ducati 848, and Elita-1 is an EV Agusta F4. However, I can’t say I agree with that statement. There’s no licensing information on the box, and there are some visible discrepancies between the toys and the real bikes. Chromia’s headlight is split up and her side lamps are the wrong shape, Arcee is missing her front fender and most of her side panels, and Elita-1 is missing her rearview mirrors and has two headlights instead of just one. Some of these changes could be sacrifices for the sake of making bikes this small transform, but most of them just feel like working around licensing.

Paint deco is kind off here, too. While the base colors are right, all three bikes in the movie had a lot of black accents along with Cybertronian writing on their bodywork. In addition, all three had rims color-coded to their main body colors. None of these details carry over, likely due to size and budget issues. Instead, all we have is some black on the seats, and some silver for the windshields, headlights, gas caps, rims, and tail pipes. However, I think they still look nice, even if they aren’t 1:1 movie accurate.

Now, I mentioned the size earlier, and I should probably address that more properly now. These girls are tiny, only about 2 3/4″ tip to tail in bike mode. They are the smallest figures in the Studio Series line, which is probably for scaling reasons. While I don’t presently have any of the vehicles these bikes were seen alongside in the movie, putting her next to Dropkick in car mode, the scale looks about right for a motorbike next to a car, which I very much approve of.

Conversions

Being as small as they are, these three figures have very simplistic conversions. This is especially true of Chromia, whose transformation consists of folding out the rear seat to form her arm, bringing out the other arm, flipping the front and rear wheels and bringing up the head. Probably the hardest part is trying to tab the rear wheel into place when going back to bike mode, since it doesn’t really fit into the specified slot.

Arcee and Elita are a little more involved. For Arcee, you need to unhinge the lower and upper halves of the bike. From here, the upper half transforms easily enough (just remember to flip up her shoulder spike). The lower half, however, does a double-twist to put the body stem the proper position, then folds in half to create Arcee’s double wheel-foot.

Elita-1′s transformation is slightly different from Arcee and Chromia, in that her front wheel forms one of her arms instead of the rear seat. Once her arms are out of the way, along with her rear wheel-spike, the side panels of the bike rotate down, exposing a similar body stem to Arcee’s. From here, disconnect the front and rear of the bike by un-tabbing the gas tank, do a similar double-twist to Arcee, and then straighten out the rear wheel to form her wheel-foot. Fold the handlebars up, and you’re done.

All three sisters get detachable bases to keep them standing in robot mode. They don’t mount super-securely, nor do they store anywhere in vehicle mode, but they do their job well enough.

Robot Modes

While limited by their small size, these three figures are very faithful renditions of their CGI models from the movie. Some of the finer details are missing, again likely owing to their small size, but the general body shapes are there, and even subtle details like Elita’s folded up handlebars are included.

Upon close inspection, it appears that these three share a surprising number of parts. Arcee shares Chromia’s left shoulder and right forearm, Elita-1′s right shoulder, chest, and head, and all three share the same waist tooling and... hip piece, I guess.

For articulation, all three sisters have ball-joints in their necks, shoulders, elbows, and waists, plus a mushroom peg swivel leftover from transformation, which allows you to tilt their upper bodies if that’s a thing you want to do. I will warn you, however, that some of their arm joints can be loose. In my case, both Arcee and Elita have loose left elbows, and Arcee’s bike front shoulder is loose as well. Also, I’ve occasionally popped parts off during transformation, though it’s not often enough to feel like anything besides a problem with my end.

Aside from their robot mode stands, this set includes three additional accessories: a large pink gun, a large blue blade, and a small blue piece with silver piping. According to the instructions, the gun goes over Arcee’s right forearm, the blade goes on Chromia’s left forearm, and the small blue piece goes on... Arcee’s left shoulder. Yeah, this feels odd to me. It’s obviously colored to go with Chromia, and seems to only work with Arcee due to them sharing a left shoulder part, but the instructions give it to Arcee. That said, all three of these accessories are interchangeable across the two, since not only do they share right forearms to fit the gun, but Arcee also has pegs for the blade on her left forearm. Unfortunately, Elita kind of gets left out of the accessory swapping, though she does have her character model’s arm-blade sculpted into her left arm. Also, the shoulder piece isn’t super secure, especially on Chromia, who has some clearance issues with her large elbow and blade.

Now, normally, that would be it for the figures themselves... but there’s one more undocumented feature to discuss.

Combined Mode

I’m going to say this right now: as of me writing this review, there are no official instructions for this combined mode. A combined mode is clearly intentional judging by the engineering involved, but there is no confirmed official configuration. As a result, I will be following the method used by SparkSide - YRQRM0 on YouTube, which has made the best use I’ve seen of all the unique engineering.

In essence, this is just Arcee with Elita-1 forming a rear wheel, and Chromia forming a large backpack. The idea of the three combining is based on a deleted scene from Revenge of the Fallen that only exists as concept art, but this configuration has very little in common with that concept art. SparkSide’s original combination idea, while using less of the dedicated engineering, did more closely resemble that concept design. Still, this isn’t really bad in comparison. I like the centaur shape she has going on, and I still enjoy how Chromia’s arm parts fuse onto Arcee’s. While Chromia herself kind of just forms a backpack, it is a nice way of integrating her design. That said, Arcee loses all torso articulation, and her arms are a little clunky in this configuration. Still, it’s a fun little bonus feature that I’m glad they included.

Backdrop

The backdrop included with this set is branded “Shanghai Pursuit”, and is based on the opening sequence from Revenge of the Fallen, where the three pursue Sideways through the streets of Shanghai. Specifically, it shows the building that they burst through after narrowly avoiding killing an old Chinese man eating noodles. While the shot from the movie is very busy, all of the details I saw in the movie are present here, and there’s nothing here that seems out of place. So I’ll say it’s a successful recreation.

But now the million dollar question: do the figures fit on the base? Yes. The figures are so small in robot mode and have such narrow footprints that all three of them can stand side by side without crowding the base. They even fit on it in combined mode... but only sideways. The combined robot is just too long front to back to fit on the stand facing forward, but the base is wide enough and the robot thin enough too fit when looking off to the side. So it’s possible, but it doesn’t look very good. They all still fit in motorcycle mode as well. It’s a little crowded, but you can get them to all fit on the stand side-by-side at an angle, showroom style.

Final Thoughts

Studio Series is not for everyone, and the Revenge of the Fallen designs are definitely not for everyone. That said, I think the motorcycle sisters are some of the better designs to come out of that movie, and I think they are captured very well in this three-pack. While small, they are fun to play around with, going from one mode to another and playing around with the combinations. Some of the connections are kind of loose, but not to the extent of being a dealbreaker. So if you’re into these designs, or are just looking for some fun desk toys, these are hard to go wrong with. Just make sure you play with them in an area where you won’t lose any dropped parts.
