A penny for your thoughts about Side Purple...

Gora looking at Yukari like ‘nice character you got there, would be a shame if someone…gave him a horrifically sad past full of tragedy’ (and I guess you could argue they’re adding unnecessary suffering but honestly if I wanted to watch a show about emotionally stable characters with happy pasts I’d be watching a slice of life or something). I largely liked Side Purple for what it is, it’s nice to get some backstory in Yukari even if it is as expected tragic. I liked that they added the detail of him learning swordsmanship from someone before Ichigen, I think it gives more insight as to why Yukari is so skilled and even in some sense why he thought he could go against his teacher, since he originally learned from one of Ichigen’s pupils. And having his original found family be killed by Purgatory gives him a different perspective than Kuroh as far as Ichigen’s ‘kids’ are concerned — Kuroh’s family died in a simple accident but Yukari’s was killed, and that makes all the difference for their perspectives. In a way it makes a nice parallel with Iwafune actually, since Iwafune loses his whole clan to the Kagutsu Crater while Yukari also loses his family to Purgatory, and gives some insight as to why Yukari was ultimately more entranced by Hisui’s path than by Ichigen’s. 

Also I loved that detail that Yukari was almost recruited by Habari, Blue Kings stop kidnapping children challenge: impossible (I just really need Yukari and Fushimi to have some kind of conversation about this okay, they could bond). It puts Yukari in an interesting place regarding the ‘bonds’ created by the Slate, like Iwafune and even Hisui to some extent he’s someone who was affected both by the past group of Kings as well as the current ones. I really liked the final extra chapter too, where the current Yukari returns to his hometown with Sukuna. The melancholy of Yukari remembering his past and the people important to him but also showing more of how he’s becoming family to Sukuna and telling Sukuna to become an adult so they can drink together, I think it was a really nice way to wrap up the story. In general I liked how Side Purple gave us some needed insight into Yukari and how he ended up where he ended up, and I think it was a nice addition to his character even if it did go for the expected K tragedy.

Alright I wanna catalogue all my thoughts on Persona 3 Reload but it's gonna start with an info dump. I rescued Fuuka and about halfway though the revenge website arc. So first done teammate thoughts.

I think the protagonist is pretty boring I just feels like he's less present than Yu and Ren. All his answers are either boring, polite, or really mean. Not a lot of opportunities to be a silly goose at least so far. I get the feeling he's meant to be a little emo and possibly apathetic to others due to the game's themes.

Junpei is cool, really silly goofy guy. Sucks he falls victim to Persona idiot guy syndrome and is kinda treated poorly by everyone and is kinda perverted. It's not insane but it's their.

Honestly love Takebe so much. She is such a normal person and it's so refreshing. And I mean normal normal like she is trying her fucking best even though she's kinda lame (affectionate) at times. Like the Ace Defective line made me laugh solely because of her pause beforehand like she tried so hard. And her random beef with Kirijo is so good. It's probably explained later but day one she did not get a good vibe from her and is constantly like 'Idk she gives me the ick' is so funny to me.

Speaking of Kirijo. Love her. Queen shit. Mother. Actual group mom. She's trying her best and again she's so funny. Her thinking that someone broke into Junpei's room when he's simply a slob is peak to me. She is THE Empress.

Akihiko. We love a good gym bro himbo. Him and Shinji have messy exes energy. Not much to him yet honestly but I'm excited to know more.

Same with Fuuka she seems really cool. Normal shy girl character but I'm sure we get a lot more depth with her social link.

Speaking of which social link rundown.

Kenji had me questioning my sanity bc why am I so supportive of this guy getting groomed? I can say it's a bad idea to ask out your teacher but I can never be like 'hey, she's a pedo.' I literally have been speed running his link bc I need to know if she's a creep or if he's delusional. I'm at 9 so it seems to be delusional.

I took one look at Odagiri and went 'ah yes, he's a little bit fucked up.' only halfway through so curious where it goes.

That's about it loving the game despite a few nitpicks bc it's Atlus and my grudge against then is eternal.

How would YukariFushimi look like as a couple?

Beautiful XD Yukari would definitely have to tidy Fushimi up a little, he sees the vision that Fushimi would look even better with a bit of eye shadow. I feel like their relationship would involve a lot of Fushimi grumbling and Yukari just taking it with a smile, totally unbothered as he’s like let’s get you into the shower and get some color into those cheeks. I could see Fushimi initially being hesitant to even spend much time with Yukari at all, because he remembers when they were in jungle together and he’s on his guard, but Yukari tells him there’s no need to be tense all of the time and why don’t they talk. I think Fushimi would have a tendency to assume that Yukari doesn’t take things seriously but by spending time together he realizes that Yukari does have a serious side it’s just that Yukari isn’t someone who lets himself dwell too much on bad things and that’s actually something Fushimi can respect, that Yukari is aware of how his past has reshaped him but doesn’t feel the need to be bound by it. And that sense of freedom is something that Fushimi can’t entirely hate, even if he grumbles every time Yukari tries to do his makeup or lecture him about looking more beautiful. I think Yukari would enjoy doting on him a bit actually, somewhat like Kuroh Yukari is presumably trained in all domestic arts and likes to see people properly fed and healthy. Where Kuroh would find Fushimi exasperating though Yukari takes it in stride, treating Fushimi the way he would a stubborn kid and just being fondly caring over this gloomy boyfriend he’s ended up with.
