"Words from the Genius" es el álbum debut del rapero estadounidense GZA, lanzado hoy 19 de febrero de 1991 bajo el sello discográfico Cold Chillin' Records antes de que se formara la Wu-Tang Clan en 1993. El álbum cuenta con un sonido típico de la época del Hip-Hop en Nueva York, con sampleos de soul y funk, y una producción a cargo de Easy Mo Bee, Patrick Harvey y Jesse West

  El álbum contiene letras que tratan temas como el racismo y la violencia, y se destaca por la habilidad de GZA para contar historias y utilizar juegos de palabras. Aunque no tuvo un gran éxito comercial en su momento, ha sido reconocido como un clásico del Hip-Hop y ha influido en muchos artistas en los años siguientes. El rap en Nueva York en 1991 estaba en un momento de transición, con una creciente popularidad y un sonido que estaba evolucionando, aunque todavía se basaba en sampleos y beats de batería, la producción estaba comenzando a ser más compleja y sofisticada. Los artistas estaban explorando nuevas formas de contar historias y de hacer rimas, y el Hip-Hop estaba comenzando a convertirse en un fenómeno mundial.

Aunque el primer sencillo, "Come Do Me", tiene un sentimiento definido de R&B a New Jack, ¡no se deje engañar!. Genius tiene mucha delicadeza en el micrófono para complacer a todo tipo de oídos con su estilo de rima único. GZA - The Genius tiene mucho espacio para moverse con el trabajo de producción realizado por Easy Mo Bee. Quizás recuerdes las canciones que produjo en el segundo disco de Big Daddy Kane. En "True Fresh MC", Mo Bee combina un ritmo acelerado, una línea de bajo funky y una caja crepitante, con pequeñas muestras de saxofón de "Bring The Noise" de Public Enemy y la muestra más original del clásico riff de teclado "Flashlight" de P-Funk que he escuchado hasta la fecha. “I'm Slamming” combina el ritmo usado por Boogie Down Productions en “Blackman In Effect” con un sample de blues de Booker T & MG que simplemente patea. Los ritmos funky y las rimas voladoras crean palabras. De The Genius algo a tener en cuenta.
