Happy 14 years of Transfusions! \o/ I love the characters in this comic (though I would only hug the ones who'd like one). What were some of the things you learned while making this comic? Both about comic making and creating characters in general.

What I've learned....?

I was first writing a small bullet point list but then it became something I've been thinking about recently...

I've never really enjoyed fucked up stories and characters. I don't really relate to them and I don't find them particularly compelling. And so my stories are mostly wholesome, the characters are nice and decent. All my stories are very lukewarm oatmeal level of drama and most people probably yawn at them. Every time someone does an online post like "DRAW THOSE FUCKED UP CHARACTERS AND FUCK THEM UP AND MAKE YOUR COMIC SICK AND DARK AND WEIRD" it feels like a personal attack, lol (I'm half joking.) I've become very aware of how my comics are different from what people in this space, the people I follow and look up to, the people in my bubble etc. hype and gravitate to. And sometimes I get kinda insecure about that.

But like, at the end of the day you gotta make the story that appeals to you (unless someone's paying you to do something else). I don't think I could've drawn Transfusions for 14 years if I made it something I didn't enjoy drawing. But I might try something else after I finish Transfusions, because I have also changed in 14 years. It is good to tip your toes outside your comfort zone and try other things and look outside the box to see if there's something else that you might enjoy. Challenging yourself to write characters that you naturally wouldn't gravitate to will probably help you grow as a storyteller. And also taking a thing you don't enjoy and molding it to something you do, might be an interesting experiment.

I'm also aware that a lot of these "MAKE WEIRD SHIT" posts are a pushback to purity culture and people who can't separate fiction and the values of the author. People who demand everything in comics is clean and right. That shit's dangerous and we definitely need to fight it. There is room for FUCKED UP SHIT and the oatmeal and whatever there is in between.

Soooooo tl;dr: Be true to yourself, it's important to create the stuff you enjoy, but don't get stuck in comfort zone. Explore and experiment.

(ALSO!!!!: I think because Transfusions has the same vibe as me, we also share that with the readers. They vibe with my comic, I vibe with them. I have super awesome readers that I appreciate a lot <3 )

It's an odd thing to focus on, but now I wanna know the family's breakfast preferences after watching the scene where Maddie prepares it for the boys. She has two platefuls of food before noticing Knuckles' throne, and Sonic is about to grab one of them before he sees it too, but we've also got grapes (no guessing who that's for), watermelon and orange juice on the kitchen table where Maddie's getting everything together.

Whatever Maddie is making sure looks good! It looks like she made the boys bacon, a bagel with cream cheese, pancakes (which has been stated as Sonic Wachowski’s favorite breakfast food), and egg whites. Looks like she’s got a green goddess drink for them as well.

Ooh! Could you imagine the fun they’d have with making breakfast together?! Like, making breakfast tacos with pancakes as tortilla shells? I bet that’s always fun.

I see your "Vox can't cook" and I agree with it, the only thing that man can be trusted to make is like, spam sandwiches, but I would like to add my own two cents to that headcanon:

He can't cook, but he's an excellent baker. Baking is all about precise timings and ingredient portions, and since he's basically a walking computer, those are all things that come extremely easily for him. He doesn't decorate - that's Velvette's area - but he regularly makes things like soufflé or baked Alaska or croquembouche and they all turn out flawless.

On the other hand, Alastor's a natural cook, but he's ass at baking. He's the type that doesn't get that there's a difference between baking soda and baking powder, or starts adding ingredients willy-nilly without understanding how the rest of the recipe needs to be tweaked to accommodate them, or skips the salt because it "doesn't seem necessary."

Vox's baking is the one thing Angel misses about the Vee tower, because while the stuff Niffty and Alastor make is edible, it's certainly not... good. There's only so many flavorless chocolate chip cookies a guy can take, after all, before he starts wishing for those leftover macrons Val gave him three years ago that permanently altered his brain chemistry.

Slowly coming back to Tumblr after a month break of nothing but random queued posts, so, uh, hi!

Dukexiety has me in a chokehold. So why not share some more random Dukexiety shenanigans?

Okay, so: Slime Rancher AU. Slime Rancher is this cute slime game where you're a rancher who ranches slimes. One of my favorite games, so now it's time to project.

Anyway: Remus and Virgil have separate Ranches. Remus' ranch is called the Silvera Ranch, and Virgil's ranch is called the Marcello Ranch. Named after their surnames.

Remus' specialty is mostly all the slimes that hurt you. Crystal slimes, Hunter slimes, Radiation slimes, Boom slimes, etc. He even has an Incinerator to house the Fire slimes. The only not-deadly slimes he has on his ranch are the Puddle slimes because they're fucking adorable and make cute sounds and live in a pond to help with on-hand water supply for the water tank attachment on the VacPak. He even has the full collection of the Slime Toys shop unlocked (from the 7Zee Rewards thing), and got a battery toy for his Radiation slimes. The Radiation slimes love it.

Virgil's specialty seems to be the slimes who are sensitive to light or who are pretty elusive. Like Quantum slimes, Phosphorus slimes, Hunter slimes, etc. He has the cave expansion to his ranch all decked-out. He's a bit anxious about spoiling food or running out of food, so all his farms are maxed out with all the stuff to make them grow faster or scare away stray slimes.

Virgil has his ranch & tech & VacPak set in the purple Chroma Pack of Kanpeki. Remus has the green Chroma Pack of Tomatillo.

When Remus and Virgil meet & realize they're both on the planet of the Far, Far Range, they found out their ranches are the closest to each other. And on a faraway alien planet, you learn to make fast friends with those closest to you in distance because it can get incredibly lonely. And so their friendship begins!

They'll visit each other's ranches from time to time and help each other out. Dealing with Mochi Miles & the Quicksilver slimes stresses Virgil out, so Remus helps with that. Remus has dangerous slimes, and while it's more his style and he has the energy for it, it can still get him hurt from time to time. Virgil doesn't mind helping him making sure the slimes are fed and keeping an eye on Remus' farms. They both help each other on adventures when traveling away from their ranches, they'll sometimes watch the other's ranch if one of them is going on a longer adventure, and they help each other with all the science stuff in the Laboratory.

After a long while of being close to one another, the occasional joint adventures, all that...well, they start realizing their feelings for each other aren't entirely platonic. But they're not romantic either.

Yep, it's time for: qpp Dukexiety!

They're not sure how to define they're feelings for each other, but 'love' is the wrong word. They care a lot about each other and are fond of each other. They joke around on adventures. They help with ranch chores. They sometimes the stay the night over at each other's ranches when it starts to get too dark and neither of them want to deal with the likelihood of Tarrs.

And they have no fucking clue how to tell each other.

They don't wanna ruin what good friendship they already have! So, neither of these dorks tell the other that they care about them in a different way than friendship. Of course, because I am cliché, it all gets confessed on a joint adventure. It's dark. They're miles away from either of their ranches. They're on their way back. They're running from feral slimes and Tarrs, and the adrenaline is coursing through them. Remus is trying to find one of the start teleporters that lay around the area they're in. Virgil is holding his hand as they run so they don't lose each other. Virgil's the one blasting Tarrs with his water tank attachment thing. A Tarr pops up and attacks Remus before he can react to it. It bites him but then Virgil IMMEDIATELY shoots it with water and it explodes into little Tart bits. Remus is stunned by Virgil saving him as Virgil pulls them quickly into a safer little cave to figure out where to go next to get back to a ranch.

And then Remus confesses that he's desperately attracted to Virgil in a queerplatonic way. Virgil dismisses as an effect of the adrenaline rush, and so Remus tells him they can talk about it when they get back and it'll be the same answer. They figure out that Virgil's ranch is closest so they finally find a fucking teleporter and go to Marcello Ranch.

Once at the Ranch, Virgil tends to Remus' Tarr bite so it doesn't get infected and they talk. Remus confesses again, like he said he would. He admits he's been feeling this way for a while but didn't wanna fuck up their friendship because Virgil's important to him and he's terrified of losing him. Virgil stares at him as he finishes bandaging Remus, and then hugs him tight. Remus hugs back. Virgil confesses he's felt the same (queerplatonic) towards him but didn't know how to articulate it and also doesn't want to lose Remus. They decide to enter a qpp partnership and figure it out together.

Somewhere down the road, they decide to combine their ranches and stuff. It becomes a chaotic home to many different slimes, a mess of green and purple everywhere, and they name it the Royal Storms Ranch. They pick a name that represents a piece of both of them: Royal for Remus' nickname "Dukey" and Storm for Virgil's affinity for thunderstorms.

And yadda yadda, happy ending, qpp Dukexiety wins!

It's got QPP Dukexiety where they have a deep level of trust and care for one another and are more than willing to stick by each other's side to figure out what they're feeling, Fitting unique last names for the beloveds that make really cool ranch names, Super sweet moments like them visiting each other's ranches from time to time and helping each other out when they need it, Them adventuring and surviving together, Them combining their ranches and pretty much raising a slime army together are all such fucking D E L I C I O U S concepts and I L O V E it!!!

incredibly autism take on food. love it. i am also a sensory seeking food autistic. today for dinner i requested something “garlicky and flavorful” ended up with noodles and dumplings

soups can so be flavorful but a lot of the time they’re just not like that out in the world and it’s soooo disappointing. shockingly easy to make though (onions n garlic, veg, crap ton of spices bloomed in the oil, good broth, blend, SALT)

See I would never trash talk a dumpling but once again I think they are vehicles for other flavors. In MY opinion although soups are easy to make most of them just taste like Onions and Chicken Broth to me and I'm like where is the spice where is the intrigue where is the zest for life

Hey besties spur of the moment thing but do me a favor and read this article to get an overview of radiation experiments in the US (that we know of) because it's literally feeding-babies-plutonium sci-fi villain shit that's a thousand times worse than MKUltra and the Tuskegee experiments that's public knowledge and has been for longer than probably most of you have been alive and yet I've literally never heard anyone talk about it.

My family has a bunch of real fucked up disabilities and conditions that are all genetic wonders on their own and it's probably because our grandfathers were in the military and/or from any other ancestor that might have been one of the millions of people purposefully infected, since while they targeted poor poc and disabled people heavily they also just released radiation willy-nilly over towns basically for funsies.

I've only recently discovered that when americans talk about oatmeal they mean oat porridge... obvious in retrospect. and heartwarming... take my hand... we will enjoy porridge together
