Paper plate making machine
Tumblr media
A paper plate making machine is a mechanical device used to manufacture paper plates. These machines are designed to efficiently and rapidly produce disposable plates from raw materials such as paper pulp or other eco-friendly materials. The process typically involves the following steps:
Material Feeding: The raw material, usually paper pulp or a similar material is fed into the machine. The machine may also use pre-cut paper sheets or rolls.
Molding: The material is molded into the shape of a plate using a mold or a die. The size and shape of the plates can be adjusted based on the specifications of the machine.
Heating: The molded material is subjected to heat to dry and solidify it. This step is crucial to ensure that the plates are rigid and have the desired form.
Cutting and Shaping: Once the material has solidified, the machine cuts the plates into the desired size and shape. Some machines can produce different sizes or shapes based on the mold used.
Quality Control: Some machines may include quality control mechanisms to inspect the plates for defects or inconsistencies. This can involve visual inspections or automated sensors.
Stacking and Packaging: The finished plates are then stacked and may go through a packaging process. This can include counting, bundling, and wrapping the plates for transportation.
Paper plate making machines can vary in terms of production capacity, automation level, and the types of plates they can produce. Some machines are small and manually operated, while others are large and fully automated for mass production.
When considering a paper plate making machine, factors to take into account include the machine's production capacity, power consumption, and ease of operation, maintenance requirements, and the cost of raw materials. Additionally, it's essential to ensure that the machine complies with safety and environmental standards.

Hydraulic paper plate making machine
A hydraulic paper plate making machine is a type of paper plate making machine that utilizes hydraulic pressure to carry out various processes involved in the production of paper plates. These machines are designed to provide efficient and reliable performance in manufacturing disposable plates. Here's a general overview of how a hydraulic paper plate making machine typically works:
Material Loading: The raw material, which is usually paper pulp or other eco-friendly materials, is loaded into the machine. This can be in the form of pre-cut paper sheets, rolls, or other suitable forms.
Hydraulic Pressing: The hydraulic system is employed to apply pressure on the raw material, forcing it into a mold or a die. This pressure helps in shaping the material into the desired form of the paper plate.
Heating: In some models, the hydraulic press may be combined with a heating element. The hydraulic pressure, along with heat, aids in the drying and solidification of the material. This ensures that the plates have the necessary strength and rigidity.
Cutting and Shaping: Once the material has solidified, the machine uses hydraulic power to cut and shape the plates. The mold or die determines the final size and design of the paper plates.
Quality Control: Some hydraulic paper plate making machines may include quality control features to inspect the plates for defects or inconsistencies. This can involve manual inspections or automated sensors.
Stacking and Packaging: After the plates are formed and cut, they are stacked and may go through a packaging process. This step involves counting, bundling, and wrapping the plates for storage or transportation.
Hydraulic paper plate making machines are known for their ability to provide high-pressure force, which can be advantageous in achieving precise and consistent results during the plate-making process. These machines are often chosen for their durability, reliability, and the ability to handle a variety of plate sizes and shapes.

Since I'm no longer employed by a single sewing machine company, and don't have to worry about saying this,
If you are looking to buy a premium sewing machine, if at all possible, absolutely go to a place that can show you multiple brands of machines, including different levels of features and different price points.
There are some brands, including a brand I previously worked for, where the number of features for to the price is just not in any way competitive with the rest of the market.
They're good machines, and I'm not about to get rid of mine in favor of another. However, when one brand's $12,000 machine has more premium features than another brand's $19,000, that should be information that people have when they're looking to buy a new machine.
That said, since many brands do not sell their high-end machines online, if the only place where you can buy a $2,500 embroidery machine is at a little sub-store inside a Joann Fabrics, I can confirm that they're not bad machines. But, y'know, it's very cool that Husqvarna Viking machines at the $15,000 and $19,000 price have a fully-automatic one-step needle threader, but it's worth noting that Babylock has that feature on a $600 machine.
Obviously, the thing you should be basing your purchase on is more than just what the specs are on paper, and you should get a machine that you like, regardless of what my personal opinions are. Again, if you're in any way able to get to a place that sells different brands of machines across different price points, and you can see them out of the box and operating, it's a good thing to do. There's a ton of small elements of a machine that don't get spelled out in an online listing. You might find that you hate something small, like the location of the needle plate screws, where going up or down in price by $70 can get you a machine without that annoying feature. If the people doing sales at your sewing machine store also sew on all the machines, you can get opinions from them about fine details. They're not always able to crap-talk a machine, but I've seen someone say, "Oh no, we've tried changing it a couple times and that tension still looks wrong. Let me show you a machine that doesn't do that," which is sales speak for this machine has tension problems nine ways to sunday and you will be dealing with that forever so i know you liked it online but please don't buy it because there's other machines that aren't more expensive that don't do that.
If you're in a big store, you can also learn about products that you never would have found online. For example, you might have thought you wanted a multi-needle until you got to sit down at an embroidery/sewing combo machine and realized that you're willing to change threads one at a time to save $10,000 and 9 square feet of floor space. You might have thought you want an industrial machine until you realize that Babylock has that Accomplish straight stitch machine that will get you what you need, but still use domestic bobbins and needles and be serviced by household machine service people. You wanted a household machine with a stitch regulator until you tried it in person and decided it's not worth it and you're up to dedicating your entire living room to holding a stand-up long-arm.
When you search for things online, you often end up in a very linear path, finding something you like and then checking for things that are technically very similar. However, online searching is oftentimes very bad at being able to connect things that are functionally very similar but aimed at different markets. I feel like this is like a capcha asking you to prove that you're human by clicking all the pictures that are hedgehogs. If you're a human surrounded by sewing machines aimed at providing machines to a wide variety of customers, it's pretty easy to look at similar machines from different markets. However, if you're online and trying to find an embroidery machine for your home, you're going to be fed whatever google's tunnel vision thinks is a home embroidery machine.
Allllllso if at all possible, don't buy a serger when there's no one to show you how to thread it. And remember, the thread goes in front of the elephant.

Part 1|?
⇢ In an age where information can save you or kill you; the concept of wrong place at the wrong time is a funny one. What do you do when you’re accused of stealing the hard-drive that holds restricted information belonging to the government? Particularly when they send a lethal robot to take you down?
Pairing⍮ Jeon Jungkook x reader, Kim Namjoon x reader Genre⍮ robot!au, angst, slow-burn and eventual smut (no specific warnings in this chapter)  Word-count⍮ 4.6k
A/N: This fic couldn’t have dropped at any other time just as fitting to celebrate the belated birthdays of my loves Jungkook and Namjoon who also happen to be the main two characters. It’s also my birthday hehe! I had not actually planned to drop this now as a celebration at all since I had written it almost a year ago and had edited and gone back a thousand time. I think its safe for me to say that I had not worked any harder on any other fic on this blog so I hope it receives some love 💜
He took slow careful steps down the familiar stairs confined by white sterile walls leading down to his private laboratory. Tonight marks his fifth year anniversary in that building that filled with tranquillity that was anything but pleasant.
A sigh escaped his lips as he lifted the laminated silver card that hung around his neck to grant him entrance to the lab before he moved his hand to the switch by the door to turn on the lights. His fingers tugged at the plastic material and lifted it off his chest and into some place on the counter.
Kim Namjoon  –  robotics and autonomous systems specialist. 25.
At first glance, the place appears abandoned. There were barely any white coats other than his floating in choreographed concentration along the benches, as was usually the case. The smell of the setting agar and the faint humming sound of running machinery – as well as the lack of dust quickly dismissed any ideas. The modernity of the laboratory is showcased by the giant steel frames surrounding soundproof glass that welcome a view of the city where the light further brightens the dull lab, contrasting the black metallic roof above and floor below.
Everything was the way he left it the night before, it has been a routine for him now after having completed the project of a life time and for someone so young – it was achieved way too early. He had fallen into a slump, he knew he would never be able to re-create what he had any better. He will never feel the same way he did the first time – the time when he laid his eyes on the smooth sun-kissed coloured skin that capsuled anything but natural. The devices he had the honour of being able to craft and create were the easy part of his job, a task that he was able to do by the end of the third semester years ago while he was still learning at college. It was the half nature of his creation that posed potential for the project to fail as nature screamed at the fusion of what should not.
He ran a hand through his hair as he paced to the pile of paper on the end of his desk where his leather chair waited awkwardly, looking through the notes that he compiled through the years that now serve as a reminding memory as if their content were not engraved in every one of his brain cells. He let out a bitter laugh as he looked at the not so innocent words in the initial research and proposal that gave life to what he had made today.
14th of October, 2015.
Robots.
A concept that has been anciently configured. The fascination with ‘artificial beings’ has been around for thousands of years, evolving recently with the onset of the Industrial Revolution in order to create complex machines powered by electricity with the sole purpose of conducting their allocated tasks -  reducing the need for human assistance.
Human reliance on artificial intelligence has increased drastically over the years –  first beginning in factories using simple fixed machines programmed to do a single action, over and over again repeatedly. The use of machine for different number of tasks followed right after, extending to the creation of human-sized robots with the capacity for near-human thoughts and movement and so has their purpose.
How to make robots softer or more compliant… less like rigid machines? How can we combine human and artificial intelligence?
Biohybrid robots
Robotics with tissue engineering. They serve as a promising candidate for improved research investigation by providing biological dynamic system template through biological design. The concept of dual nature seems to have chance of success as although previous studies have shown that using skeletal muscle tissue on metal tend to shrink through the course of the tissue culture, it was not the case when an antagonistic pair were grown.
22nd of April, 2017.
Repurposing project to military (I don’t know how to feel about this, but Seokjin says I can’t do anything about it).
Military Robots
The need for reducing human casualty in war has become increasingly apparent by the public outcry and the great downfall in the number of men enlisting into the army over the years.  The world is evolving at such a rapid pace which forced the need for rapid adjustment to be almost compulsive, maybe that is what has allowed technological advances in the robot industry and invention to highlight the possibility of using robots in warfare which has been once regarded a topic of science fiction. The use of automated weapon systems is now considered the future of modern warfare and has become largely invested in for research and development by many countries.
Another sigh escapes his lips as he piles the scattered papers into their usual folder and away into the second drawer that he’ll open once again this time, next year. Leaning back in his leather seat and dropping his head back, he realised how much of a mess the place was. It was as if the storm outside had moved beyond the walls and into his rather suffocating workplace but he didn’t have time to think about cleaning up when far more important matters were to be done first.
His mind wandered to the stranded bot on the other side of the building who needed to have his microbiology screen completed today. There was an undeniable thrill in the routine tests he was in charge of, he looked forward to every instance where he finds himself a few feet away from his cell, not that anyone can blame him. He has never had actual contact with the robot – no one has before. He was programmed to comply with his assigned schedules, he knew when and where he had to stretch his arm across the metal barrier to sit it on top of a glass plate where they are strapped automatically to lock him in place for specimen collection.
He wished he had more authority when it came to the fate of him – he didn’t wish to have him locked away for all this time with minimal socialisation, all of which he knew were to be of consequence one day, inevitably.
The walk to the confinement was as any usual – the corridors dark and quiet. Not many people opt for night shifts in the field of his speciality for many reasons, some that undeniably reside in the depths of his mind every single day. This job is by no meant not your typical, there was risk in every move you make – especially when the guards are a bit too tired and a bit too unobservant in the late hours of the night. The secrecy of the projects withheld within confinement were much too important than human lives, the consequence of any fault is to be faced.
Two metal doors opened swiftly as he scanned his card by the projecting blue light. His anxiety swam to the surface as he dwelled on the chances of something going wrong. He knew he had to conquer his fears before coming face to face with the bot he gave life to. He knows just how capable he can use that against him -  how he can use anything to manipulate him.
He felt ashamed to admit that despite having built him piece by piece, he almost knows absolutely nothing about what goes in his computer mind. The second nature of Jungkook granted him that liability, the little ability and free will to conceal himself as he wishes from anybody without being coded onto one of these computer screens. Thinking about it now makes the uneasy feeling more difficult to go. There’s endless possibilities of things going wrong, the main concern being the possibility that Jungkook lets loose and decides to use his strength against the metal baring his own nature against his maker.
When the sound of the buzzer resonated in Namjoon’s ears to remind him of the job to be done, an unexpected guard emerges from the side door, he stops his footing a few inches away and inspects Namjoon fully despite the authorisation he received at the gate.
“What? No more naps on the job, Mr. Min?” Namjoon snickers, before giving his old friend a warm embrace, “I didn’t know you were back from suspension, what happened to you anyway?”
“Piss off Kim, one of you has either been a snake or that stupid janitor has ratted me out and told them what happe- anyway it’s nothing, I’m back. There.”
“What? What happened?”
“I said, it’s nothing”
“Look Yoongi, if this concerns your job which requires you to be alert for a reason then it is something, for god’s sake what happened? Is this concerning the bot?”
Yoongi sighs before he contemplates saying anything, If the higher ups know then Namjoon also has a right to know, “He attacked him, Namjoon.”
Namjoon’s whole world seemed to have paused when he processed the three words, he’s attacked someone. Jungkook, he’s attacked somebody and…. “What did he do?” Namjoon blurts, he needs to find out more. Why would Jungkook do anything like this unstimulated?
“Well he twisted his wrist till all his bones cracked broken-”
“No, I didn’t mean the bot. What did the Janitor do, did he say anything? Do anything”
“What?” Yoongi asks confused, “I don’t know? Maybe? I heard him speak but you can’t hear much out here. I promise it’s not because I was asleep, I was actually awake the whole day that day.”
“He must’ve said something to push him into violence. What’s the janitor’s name? details?”
“Woah, woah! Look I’m just a guard, man. Take your investigation somewhere else, go ask Seokjin or something.”
“Seokjin knows?” Namjoon feels betrayed, Seokjin out of everyone who was meant to support him unconditionally. His supposed best friend. At least he knows where his royalties lie.
“Of course, he was the first respondent. Was walking in the hallway when it happened actually. Great timing”
“And what did Seokjin do?” he looks down at Yoongi with a blank look, he knows that this was no coincidence. Seokjin’s job position has never required him to be on field, since when was he authorised to enter confinement? None of it made sense.
“I don’t know, I guess he talked both of them down or something. All I know is he was here, took the dude out afterwards for medical attention and they were both gone. Bot was still inside. So, as I said, Seokjin is your guy here I won’t be much help.”
“I see. If you remember anything you know who to look for” Namjoon leaves before completing his sentence to enter the sterile room to find the instruments.
He throws a blunt needle, alcohol wipes, fluid container and gloves on a tray after sterilising his hands. All the routine now familiar to him. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something is wrong, something is happening and he knows none of it. Jungkook has been in contact with a human for the first time in his existence, and he just attacks.
Letting the air trapped in his lungs out in a sigh, he puts on the gloves before making it to the double doors leading to the cell. Another buzzer sounded, this time no guard was present. He needed to know when this incident happened, he needed to know more. It was his responsibility if anything else goes terribly wrong, even though he was taken off the assignment.
Jungkook’s arm was already present by the time Namjoon walks to the edge of the cell. A small rectangular glass above allows him to have eye contact with the bot as he wiped his injection site clean, he knew he had to be calm and collected, as if he had no idea what he’d done. Grabbing the needle, he connected the end with the container before injecting it into a vein and drawing out blood.
Thirium
Blue blood as they call it, it’s the fluid that powers the androids biocomponents, it circulates to provide energy and electrical information as our nerves do. It is an extraordinary finding which has allowed hybrids to exist now as they do. But unlike human blood, it evaporates after a few hours and becomes invisible to the naked eye when it comes into contact with oxygen. Perfect for an erasable terror in war where there won’t be any remains to tell the story if the bot’s purpose fulfilment fails.
He knows he shouldn’t instigate a conversation, there were cameras everywhere. If seokjin hasn’t told him anything about the incident then there is a high likelihood it was only meant for a select few to know about it. They had even suspended Yoongi and he doubts that it was because his inability to do his job properly, this ‘incident’ had been done on purpose. Maybe a test? But he had to say something.
“How are you feeling?” he finds himself asking.
But there was no response. Jungkook was looking straight at him and the answer was clear. He wasn’t feeling anything, his eyes completely vacant. What had they done?
“You know, I’ve been meaning to apologise. I know how uncomfortable it feels to have blood drawn… and here you are getting it done weekly. I wish there was a different way to get your routine tests done. This one is going to be sent for microbial examination.”
Namjoon carefully removes the container from the needle, placing it onto the tray before taking his gloves off. He was not really expecting an answer, he was probably reprogrammed to be silent.
“I am sorry for what’s happened to you” he whispers. Not fully sure Jungkook would understand what he’s referring to. He just has a feeling that he hadn’t just randomly lashed out. He has never done that to him.
“You should not be apologising for getting your job done, sir” he hears the bot’s voice from the other side of the door, the dull eyes he was staring into turning rather soft before his hand was withdrawn and the flap closed shut followed by the sound of automated machinery.
Had he just gotten his un-programmed first sentence?
Has Jungkook spoken like that before? There was so much to find out.
As Namjoon made his way back to his private laboratory, he realised how wrong he was regarding his human capabilities. He might have created him but he knew absolutely nothing about the human side of Jungkook for he still has living tissue within him. His mind wandered to a specific conversation he had with Seokjin months ago.
7th of July, 2018.
“He is ready.” Seokjin speaks before he moves the pipette above a beaker, watching the mixture slowly swirl into hues of pink as he releases the chemical fluid. “He’s trained for a long time, he’s more than ready now. We have kept him thirsty for way too long.”
Namjoon sighs before turning away from the laboratory’s senior - his senior.
“Ready to murder every single human on this earth!” he releases a suppressed breath, “He hasn’t even had a single contact with a human before! With zero social skills, we’d be releasing a fucking killing machine!”
“That’s what he’s designed for, remember? We don’t need him for anything else” the senior replies before taking steps towards his subordinate, “Besides, all we have to do to control him is to log on one of these damn computers. He’s already loaded with all the chips required, everyone who we want safe will be safe.”
“We were told he’d only be used in war, we didn’t sign up for this - all of this risk, millions of dollars for a single girl! They could easily have hired someone to do their dirty work.”
Namjoon looks down at the stained bench as his senior joins him.
“He might have cost us millions but I’m sure you can imagine how much more we’d lose if what we know goes out to the rest of the world. This one is out of your hands, I’m afraid”, he patted his shoulder before making eye contact “you seem to be getting too soft for this field of work, Dr. Kim. They wouldn’t be too impressed knowing that, especially not when you’re the creator of something so lethal.”
“You didn’t even witness anything that went down, I’d like to see you act all brave when he’s standing inches away from your face with the intent to kill – for being isolated all these years!”
He had thought so lowly of the bot he’s made from seeing him tackle bodies of plastic and various other instruments as part of his training. Although it is better to be safe rather than sorry he can’t bring himself to think that Jungkook would project his training on someone innocent, why would he harm someone he was not programmed to harm as Seokjin had promised.
Jungkook was to be released next week for his mission, he had received this information on the bulletin the next morning. Namjoon had no regard to time at this point, the night blended into day while he looked through any file he can access on the system, he knew he had to be careful with his investigation to avoid arousing suspicion. He was not stupid after all.
He vaguely remembers the mission Jungkook was set to complete, he had thought it was originally due to fatigue but now that he thinks back, Seokjin had not told him much – and after being removed from the bot’s case, he knows nothing at all. The last training he personally conducted with Jungkook haunted him.
28th of August, 2018.
“Let me run it one more time.”
“It’s your third time already, he’s got it alright. He’s a machine!” Jin sneers as he fondles with the biohybrid’s file.
“Part machine.” Namjoon throws him a look before turning to meet his creation. “State your mission, again”, he orders.
“Eliminate target Y/N L/N”, a monotone voice responds back.
“And?”
“For fucks sake!” A familiar pestering voice behind him speaks again.
“I’m trying to follow the damn safe-conduct instructions here! If you can’t stand it then please, you may leave.”
Namjoon tries to collect his focus onto the robot sat in front of him, hoping that his supervisor won’t run his mouth again for all this is crucial in understanding even the slightest about the way his robot interacts with humans.
He had personally kept an eye on him through his training the past few months since his awakening, gawking from the camera lenses at the way he moves, the way he eats and drink, the way he speaks and conducts human like activities in isolation as after all – the bot was given a schedule to follow for the purpose of serving the scientists knowledge regarding his nature since personal interaction with him was not a viable option.
He was able to witness how he progressively began to speak less like a robot, his voice slowly losing that flat monotone only to flourish into a soft and almost musical one, how he became better at feigning freedom of expression as he recites what was stealthily stored into his system. He learned that just like humans, the robot required to eat and excrete, he’d observed that it had been awkward for him to do at the beginning; he would have been fooled to think of him as a child if it was not for his built body - and the lifelessness that lays between his irises. There was only one issue, he never had the chance to study his interaction with others and he has absolutely no idea what his human side is like, nothing regarding his though process and how much conflict that would bring to prosecuting his commands, there is only one way to truly find that out.
“Alright.” He palmed his face as it crunches in knowing soon regret, this is a terrible idea but what other choice does he have “What’s your name?”
“Jeon Jungkook.”
He had to find out more about Y/N too. He had one week to do all of this, one week to find something solid and halt the mission till he found more time to investigate into Seokjin, and the incident.
Tumblr media
It was that time of the year again, the transition of autumn into winter is not one to be easily recognised when the flakes of snow have started falling ever since early September, just like the way the days have slowly converged into nothing but a stack of passing hours interrupted briefly by doses of sleep. There is no distinct moment where the frost has started chipping away at your skin, you think to yourself.
If you had to describe yourself, you could confidently tell the next person how painstakingly slow-paced your life was. You were nothing but an uneventful person, with an uneventful life. Everything had a schedule, your days began with a morning cup of coffee from your old (almost broken) machine that needed replacement, at 7 in the morning. You’d have not long enough before having to leave the house and attending the unnecessary meeting at your current job at POC where you worked as a reporter. This would typically be when your manager tells your team off for not working your butts hard enough to catch a break. On most days, there would be no one with good news worthy to report after the meeting, which is why Ollie, your manager, ensures the meeting comes first.
You’d spend the rest of your day in your cubicle by Park Jimin, he was your co-worker, and also your close friend. Jimin would usually be one of the few people with a story on the waiting list when the team had not caught anything worthy enough for news and you can’t help but be envious of that sometimes albeit his very hard work. You want to be like him one day, you think.
Work would usually end around 6pm, this is when your forehead is against the table and your eyes are closed shut. You were exhausted, because even though you leave the office at 6, your work never really ends. As soon as you stepped foot out of the intimidating building, you were basically out on field. You try not to get yourself too obsessed with catching a lucky break but you can’t help but feel desperate sometimes. Nevertheless, you usually would grab a takeaway and head home. On a good day, you would be having a barbecue dinner with Jimin and a bunch of other colleagues of yours. Today was not one of those days. It’s also not one of those days where you are enthusiastic to find a celebrity on a date with another to report on.
The way back home was pleasant. You had opted to cook food at home rather than a takeaway to give your body a bit of a break since you remember the groceries you’ve brought home the day prior. You were already thinking of what to make when you locked your apartment door shut, a carbonara sounded absolutely delicious, especially with fresh mushrooms. You left your bag on the sofa by the door where your makeshift living room is. Truth is, you still have not finished renovating your apartment despite having moved here 6 months ago. You were too busy worrying about newspapers to even think about buying a decent coffee table that could be in the centre of the room.
You were letting out a sigh and pulling at the camera that hung around your neck when a figure had moved within the darkness of your flat. You don’t remember inviting anybody over… your nerves shook as you thought of the possibilities anyone you know is inside with you right now. Did you just walk into a robbery of your own home?
“Hello?” you shout out, not knowing where the figure had moved to. You had to think of something.
You managed to grab the tennis racket from the box of all-random-things in attempt to defend yourself, thanking the disorganised part of yourself for having everything sit in the box knowing it’d come handy one day. If this is how you’re going to die then the least you can do is defend yourself.  How pathetic would it be to get killed in a robbery? You could just walk right out but how would you know the person won’t chase after you like a dog.
“I know you’re in there, come out!” you tried to sound strong, knowing full well that you’d shit your pants if whoever it is inside shows themselves. Did they have a weapon?
“Hello?” your hands are now shaking, you decided it’s wise to call the police and have them deal with it. The stillness of your apartment did nothing but install more anxiety and fear in the pit of your stomach.
You were walking to where you had left your bag to reach for your phone when the sound of movement and hurtle had caused you to hurry your movements. Someone was behind you. You could feel the heat emit out of their body and into yours, they were close when the phone was in your hand and all you had to do was dial the emergency but you were too late. You gulped - this is your end.
“Drop the phone.”  you hear the man behind you say, the sentence resonating in your head as you had thought of what could happen if you just tapped the green button. You decided that nothing could be worse than what you are possibly about to experience when you hit dial and the phone rang but before you could even comprehend you were forcefully turned and pushed against the wall, causing you to meet your offender eye to eye.
You couldn’t stop the gasp that escaped your mouth when his fingers wrapped around your neck and started squeezing.
You had imagined the worse when you thought of who would take away your life if you had to leave earth that way. You were expecting perhaps… someone filled with hatred, covered with scars that had driven them to commit such an act against you, or maybe just someone plain crazy and evil. But the person who stood in front of you was anything but. He was young, beautiful even. You couldn’t stop yourself from admiring the long brown locks that separated at the centre of his head at the top, the soft doe-like eyes that were filled with emptiness and his soft pink lips. Why would someone like that -  so innocent looking, a stranger, want to harm you? What had you possibly done to deserve being choked to death?
Your vision was giving away when you finally brought your hand to claw at his skin, your voice not strong enough to make out any word when the panic had finally set in, you were vibrating in sheer panic when you felt the air refuse to leave your lungs and your eyes started filling with tears, “Please, stop!” you wanted to cry out but to no avail when your vision started fading to black.

Plan C | Johnny Seo
Requested: - | Word Count: 2k | Warnings: Mentions of a miscarriage, Johnny x Fem!Reader
Genre: Fluff, Slight Angst
Author’s Notes: There is angst because why not, but there is also Johnny that’s being all cute and excited about being a father. Also, the last post for fluff Fridays in February!
Summary: Although traumatized by a painful past, you tell Johnny you’re pregnant and he’s nothing but excited to be a daddy.
As you struggle to push your house key into the front door’s lock, your frustration grows. All you want to do is curl into your bed with a warm blanket over you and sleep until the headache and dizziness you’ve been feeling goes away. To say you weren’t feeling like yourself is an understatement; to put in simpler terms, you felt like utter shit and your body aches did not help one bit. You waved it off as your job had you sitting down all day, causing your back pains, but you had this job for years with no problems.
You were greeted by a unified scream followed by laughter and bickering language. Dropping your bag onto the dark wooden floor by the entrance, you sluggishly move into the living room where you see Johnny and his group of friends yelling at one another over a game of monopoly. Plates of take-out were pushed to the edge of the coffee table while the board game sat right in the middle with miniature pieces on the squares.
“This is the second time I’ve been sent to jail,” Mark pouts, moving it piece to the designated block.
“You’re getting in my way,” Haechan retorts, a playful eye roll follows as he sees Mark’s little piece in jail along with two other pieces.
“Hey!” Johnny greets, walking over to you before pulling you into a warm hug. “Tough day?” He asks, smoothing the mess you called your hair after the wind ruined it on your way home.
“You can say that,” you mumbled against his chest.
The other boys take notice of Johnny’s actions and greet you with a hug, one by one.
“You look different,” Taeyong states, pulling away from you after giving you a hug.
“I’m tired, that’s all.”
“No, it’s not that. You look healthier, like in the face.”
You cock your head to the side and chuckle a little. “Thank you?” You watch him take his seat, next to one of his friends, fully immersed in the game.
“Wanna join?” Johnny smiles. “You can take my piece.”
Scanning the board in search for the piece Johnny always takes a certain liking to, you notice it sitting in the game’s jail next to Mark’s. “Nice try, but I’m not getting you out of jail.” Shaking your head, you leave the room and walk over to the kitchen to grab a drink. The aroma of coffee brewing fills your nostrils and you automatically feel your stomach churn. You could feel everything you had for lunch that day coming back up, so you quickly rush to the sink and puke your guts out. The next thing you knew, Johnny was right behind you holding your hair back, similar to the drunken nights you had while you two first started dating.
“Okay, you really need to go to the doctor. This has been going on for a few days now and I’m seriously starting to worry,” he presses, handing you a paper towel before helping you clean up.
“I’m fine,” you try to argue, but you come off sounding weaker than you wanted.
“No, you’re not. If I have to drag your ass to the doctor’s office, I will.” His comment makes you laugh a little, knowing he would do exactly that. “Just promise me you’ll go.”
“Okay,” you nod, attempting to help him clean up your mess only to be shushed away.
“I’ll make you some soup.”
“It’s okay. I’m going to shower and just head to bed.”
Washing his hand and wiping it on his jeans, he gives you a kiss on your forehead and watches you disappear from the kitchen.
Your legs dangled off the exam table as you wait for your doctor to enter the examination room. The four white walls are plastered with inspirational posters and reminders to get the flu shot. A knock on the light brown wooden door startles you a bit and a familiar face walks in. The usual introductions ensue and your doctor asks why you’re in there in which you reply with your symptoms.
“When was the last time you were sexually active?” Your doctor asks.
“Last weekend,” you shyly reply, looking down.
Your doctor nods. “And when is the last time you got your menstrual period?” Taking notes, your physician patiently awaits for your answer.
“About three months ago.” “Are you usually late or irregular?”
“When I’m stressed,”
A few more awkward questions follow and you give a urine sample to take a pregnancy test. When your doctor comes back, you’re hit with the news that you’re expecting. You leave your appointment with prenatal vitamins and an appointment for your first ultrasound.
When you got home, you went straight into your room. Searching through your closet, you finally find the item you hid away that carried the most painful memory you ever had. About a year after marrying Johnny, you found out you two were expecting. It was Johnny’s idea to have a book to track your pregnancy progress. You two were the most excited you two had ever been. Everything felt like it was falling into place until 3 months into your pregnancy and the entries stopped. You were certain the whole tragedy would break up your marriage with Johnny. Thankfully it didn’t, but you weren’t sure if you could deal with it if it happened again. Later that night, you felt Johnny’s arms wrap around you as he joined you in bed.
“How was your appointment?” He whispers, pulling your back into him. Moving your hair back, he places a soft kiss against your shoulder.
“It was fine. I’m not sick or anything,” you simply tell him. You interlock his fingers with his, before bringing his hand to your lips.
Johnny didn’t say anything else and neither did you.
Walking into the examination room, you lay on the bed as the technician read your chart before setting up the sonogram machine. A cold jell like substance touched your stomach and soon enough, you saw an image pop up on the screen. You couldn’t help but smile which quickly disappeared after remembering Johnny wasn’t there. The technician gladly printed a copy of the sonogram for you which you carefully place in your bag. When you got home, you find Johnny changing the bedsheets.
“Hey, do you need help carrying in the groceries?” He asks, scanning your empty hands.
“I didn’t go to the grocery store,” you confess, eyeing the note that’s still on the nightstand. You take the ultrasound picture out of your bag and hand it to Johnny as he changed the pillow’s sheets. “I had an ultrasound appointment.”
He drops the pillow and takes the picture. Looking at you shocked, he stared at the photo in his hand. “Y-you’re pregnant?” He asks, walking towards you. Taking a look at your figure, he doesn’t notice any signs of change.
“I found out when I went to the doctor.” Sitting on your stripped bed, Johnny takes notice of your mood. Taking a seat next to you, he already knew what you were thinking.
“Do you want to keep it?” He wonders. Every part of his being wanted you to say yes. And you did. You wanted to keep it. “What’re you thinking about?” He asks, already knowing the answer.
“What if it happens again?” Your words came out as a whisper. “I don’t know if I can go through that again.”
Johnny squats in front of you, lifting your chin to have your eyes meet with his. “You can’t keep thinking like that, babe. It’ll kill you.” You felt your eyes well up, recalling the conversation you had with your doctor as you laid in a hospital bed. “The doctor said there wasn’t anything you could do. There wasn’t anything you did that contributed to what happened.” Waterworks fall from your eyes and Johnny uses his thumb to wipe them away. “If it happens again - god forbid it does - you won’t go through it alone. I promise, okay?” His reassuring words make you smile before he pulls you into the warmest hug.
“Are you a little mad?” You ask suddenly, looking up at him as the sonogram is still in his hand.
“I wish you told me so I could join you instead of doing chores but no, I’m not mad. In fact, I’m ecstatic!” He pulls you into another hug and twirls you around, earning fits of giggles from you. “We’re having a baby!” He laughs, gently setting you down. “Can we do another pregnancy progress album like the one we started?”
Giving him a chuckle, you nod your head. Johnny quickly grabs his camera, you moved against your white wall, and turn to show the profile of your soon-to-be growing stomach. You hear the shutter of his camera a few times to get the right shot.
This continued over the course of your pregnancy. You kept your growing belly hidden with oversized sweaters and lived in nothing but black yoga pants that helped slim your figure. At the beginning of your third trimester, you decided to tell your friends and family you were expecting during the Thanksgiving holiday. Johnny’s parents had invited you and your parents to family dinner to their place. In the middle of dinner, your husband makes a toast calling everyone’s attention. Breaking the exciting news, an eruption of gasps and congratulatory outbursts flood your personal space. Johnny’s mom claps in excitement, clinging onto her husband’s arm as she tells him how they’re going to finally be grandparents. You look over to your mom who says she had a feeling after seeing you a few times and your father who pulls Johnny to the side to personally congratulate him on being a father. A week later, Johnny shares the news to his friends during dinner at your place.
“We all kind of knew that already,” Yuta teases, taking a sip of water. “Is it a boy or a girl?”
“Girl,” you jump into the conversation. Looking up at Johnny, he has a small smile on his face knowing how delighted he was to have a baby girl. Everyone else seemed just as thrilled as he was.
“Oh, she’s definitely going to be spoiled by you,” Taeyong laughs at Johnny who shrugs his shoulders in defeat.
Inching closer and closer to your due date, you’re finally towards the end of your third trimester with one more week to go before your due date. After Johnny’s birthday dinner, you two lay in bed: you in your oversized shirt and him in nothing but his underwear. Looking through your pregnancy progress album that Johnny put together, you feel your husband lift your shirt and his cheek is pressed against your skin. You don’t bother asking what he was doing since it was something he did every night.
“Did you eat well? That restaurant was expensive,” he speaks against your stomach, giving your baby bump a little giggle. He wasn’t expecting a reply until you two felt a small kick that caused you to look at each other in shock. Turning your attention back to what you two were previously doing, you scan through the photos your husband took after every few weeks next to the sonograms. Rubbing your tummy, Johnny hums a familiar lullaby against your skin, and you feel the sense of pain you felt all night, increase. Wincing under his cheek, you push his head off of you and stand up, holding the edge of your bed for support.
“What’s going on?” Looking at you concerned, Johnny rushes over to your side.
You feel your undergarments begin to soak and liquid run down your leg. Eyes widened, you look up at Johnny.
“Call our parents and tell them to meet us at the hospital.”
Johnny obediently follows suit. “Is everything okay?” He asks as his phone is pressed against his ear all while pulling his pants up his thighs.
“My water just broke.” Johnny’s jaw drops and his phone nearly falls to the floor from shock. “It’s time.”

List of Items Kokichi Ouma Likes and Loves and Their Item Descriptions
Time for an update on my analyzing the heck out of Kokichi
I decided to be a madman and use the Danganronpa V3 Wiki to gather up what items Kokichi likes and loves as gifts and put their item descriptions all in one place. I figure I’d make this for others to reference too, in case you wanna do head canons or theories revolving around the list. Let me know if I missed any! Also let me know if I got anything wrong because I can’t fact check these items for myself.
Edit: Categorizing them by food, clothes, and that sort of thing!
Food Items:
Boba Tea: A popular drink with a bunch of tapioca balls at the bottom. The chewy tapioca balls are made from the root of the cassava plant.
Non-Alcoholic Drink of Immortality: A non-alcoholic drink based on a legendary alcoholic beverage said to make the drinker immortal. It neither grants immorality, nor does it taste good.
Bubble Gum Bomb: A gum that makes an explosive sound when it's fully blown and popped. Weak-hearted people should not chew it.
Rock Hard Ice Cream: A cup of ice cream engineered to never melt. It can be carried around for a long time, even in summer. But it's so hard, ordinary spoons cant penetrate it.
Sukiyaki Caramel: Sukiyaki-flavored caramels that combine the flavors of meat, soy sauce, eggs, and caramel. The flavors are all really strong and don't mix well.
Gyoza In the Shape of a Face: A dumpling that's modeled after someone you swear you've seen somewhere before. The skin is thick and it's a little tough.

Wearable Blanket: A blanket that will completely defend you from the cold by closing off any gaps around you hands, neck, and feet. Moving around in it is near impossible.
Ladybug Brooch: A cute and fashionable brooch that resembles a seven-spotted ladybug. Despite how realistic it looks, it is not alive.
Cufflinks: An accessory that is attached to the cuffs of a shirt. The black onyx design makes it look good on both men and women.
Dog Tag: A dog tag used to identity soldiers. The same profile is engraved on two plates so that if the owner is killed, one is collected to report death.
Fashionable Glasses: A fashionable accessory that appears to be a pair of glasses, but does not actually correct its wearer's vision.
Dark Belt: A black-ish belt worn with karate clothes. It can only be worn by those with justice in their hearts. You can give it away, but something good might happen if you keep it
Books/readable items:
Book of the Blackened: A book of criminal offenses that contains records of the cruelest, most atrocious murders committed by humans. Many of these cases weren't released to the public.
Feelings of Ham: How to raise hamsters...is not what this book is about. It's a book about raising domestic animals for meat. For those who are interested in the farming industry.
Travel Journal: A thick journal packed with record of trips. However, it was actually written using vague knowledge and the rich imagination of someone looking at a world map.

Working principles of the laser cutting machine and CNC cutting machine:
The laser Cardboard & Paper cutting machine emits laser and makes it form a high-power density laser beam through the optical system. The laser beam irradiates on the surface of the Cardboard & Paper work-piece. And such a work-piece will reach the melting point or boiling point. At the same time, the compressed air coaxial with the beam blows away the molten or vaporized Cardboard & Paper materials. As the laser beam and the work-piece moves, the cutting graphics appear on the Cardboard & Paper material eventually. In this way, the laser Cardboard & Paper cutting machine completes the cutting processing.

Paper Cups & Plates — Bring Change to the world
Paper cups are used in most places including Restaurants, Weddings & other functions, Hospitals, Commercial establishments, schools, offices, Canteens, and so forth. In comparison to Porcelain, Plastic, Styrofoam & metal cups, Paper cups have distinct advantages. Read more
History
The use of paper cups began in 1907 with Lawrence Luellen’s invention of the Dixie Cup. Paper cups remained the staple for disposable cups until the 1970s when Solo Cups introduced its signature red cup. Today, both paper and plastic cups are ubiquitous.
The disposable cup has come a long way since the first paper cup made its debut a century ago. Both disposable paper and plastic cups offer the convenience of on-the-go consumption without the worry of cleanup. In addition, they help conserve water by eliminating the need for washing/cleaning.
Paper cups were popularized in 1918 during the American influenza epidemic. The cups were used by a large number of people to avoid infections. It was mainly used to promote public hygiene. Although these cups are available in different varieties, the two most common varieties include the cups used for cold drinks such as milk and sodas and cups used for hot beverages such as tea and coffee. These cups are produced from food grade paper board which is laminated with a thin LDPE film.
Scope of Paper and Plastic cups
Extensive changes in the manufacturing of paper and plastic have occurred over the past few decades. Environmental Protection Agency figures indicate that paper manufacturing has increased by nearly 300 percent from 1960 to 2007.
The data for plastics present an even more startling contrast, with plastic generation increasing more than 7,000 percent during the same time period. More than 1 million tons of paper generated in 2007 consisted of paper cups and plates, virtually all of which were discarded. More than 800,000 tons of plastic cups and plates were generated that same year, with most ending up in the trash.
The Disposable Cup
There are many disposable cups that are available in different materials. Plastic, Styrofoam, and paper cups are all good choices when one is on the go. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages; one may be more thermal, whereas one may be more expensive. Another may have a quicker decomposition rate, whereas one doesn’t even biodegrade. Though the cups may serve the same purpose, they are very different.
The first choice when you think of a disposable cup is paper cups. Long ago, there were no drinking fountains in public places. There were only barrels that people had to drink out of using a stationary glass. Lawrence Luellen and Hugh Moore thought this act was unsanitary. They wanted to allow people to drink fresh water freely that was free of germs. Moore and Lullen decided to use paper cups to make clean water available to thirsty people in public which led to the development of the first paper cup in 1907.
Though at first, it seemed like a fluke, paper cups are widely used in almost any situation.
How to Make a Paper Cup
If you are planning to start a paper cup manufacturing business so book an appointment with NESSCO EXPERTS to support you to start your business in the Paper Cup Manufacturing industry. Following are products for small or large scale paper products business.

Conclusion: There are many advantages of using paper cups over plastic and Styrofoam. First off, paper is microwave safe. It is made from natural trees with little foreign material added so it is the least complex material we use. Crumpling is easiest with paper, which makes it more compactable. Due to its natural state, it is also the cleanest and fastest biodegradable material of the three. This is very good for the environment.

Eugene Burkins (1876-1929?)
The Inventor of the “Burkins Automatic Machine Gun”
Eugene Burkins was born in St. Louis, Missouri (or Louisiana). Apart from learning how to read and write, Burkins had no formal education. He started out from humble beginnings. He was a shoe shiner in Chicago.
He had no prior experience making or using guns. He had never seen the field of battle or donned a military uniform. And yet, he was able to learn rather quickly how to develop an improved form of military hardware that would be considered the zenith of war technology to rival that of the most seasoned craftsmen in all the world.

(Source: “Evidence of Progress Among the Colored People”, 1902)
So how did he do it?
Tumblr media
In G. F. Richings’ book “Evidences of Progress Among Colored People” published in 1902, he explains:
He began first to make a careful study of the picture that appeared in the papers, showing the guns on the "Battleship Maine." Mr. Burkins saw in what way he could improve the machine-gun by increasing its rapid-firing capacity, and along that line he began to work His first model was mostly made with a pocket-knife.
Burkins shares his purpose for his invention in his application:
My invention relates to breech-loading cannon; and my object is to provide a construction particularly adapted to handling heavy ammunition so as to attain a much greater rapidity of fire than heretofore in guns of a caliber larger than are employed in the ordinary machine-guns, the same being more fully described hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings...
Tumblr media
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the breech portion of a cannon, upon which is mounted the mechanism in which my invention is embodied, the front portion of the cannon being shown broken away, and also a large portion of the right side of the case of the ammunition-magazine is shown broken away to illustrate a vertically-arranged series of rubber covered rollers mounted to revolve on bearings at each end within the magazine-casing and adapted to convey the ammunition downwardly, as is particularly described hereinafter.
Tumblr media
Fig. 2 is a plan of the parts shown in Fig. 1.
Tumblr media
Figs. 3 and 4 are-respectively front and rear elevations to illustrate the mechanism for operating and supporting the breech block.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fig. 5 is an axial vertical section of the breech portion of the barrel of a cannon and of two rings mounted thereon for supporting the breech-loading mechanism. The breech-block is also shown in axial vertical section; but the cartridge-carrier has one side broken away to illustrate position of superimposed breech-block when the gun is in the closed'position. The cartridge-magazine is shown in section on a vertical plane coincident with the axial centers of the cartridges shown therein in elevation.
Fig. 6 [not shown here] is a vertical axial section similar to what is shown in Fig. 5, except that in Fig. 6 the breech is at the extreme open position just after having extracted and thrown out the discharged cartridg'eshell, which is shown in a falling position in broken lines...

Burkins filed his application with the patent office on June 10, 1899. It is likely that what he saw was a preview of the plans for the ship being advertised in a newspaper article. If it was the original U.S.S. Maine that inspired his journey of innovation, then it is safe to assume that it took him 10 years to develop the Burkins gun.

“The New Battleship Maine” From an illustration in Leslie's Weekly, December 1, 1898 (Source: The National Tribune, Library of Congress via NavSource Naval History)
This description appeared in the Virginian-Pilot on February 17, 1899:
The new battleship Maine, the keel of which has just been laid, is to have a speed of l8 knots. She will be a ship of 15,500 tons displacement and in her main battery will carry four 12 inch guns and twelve 6 inch guns. These figures give a partial idea of the superiority of the new Maine over the old one. Among other things the new Maine will probably have underwater torpedo tubes, the first ever put in any ship in the American navy.
All the guns of the Maine, except the big 12 inch ones in the turrets, will be of the rapid fire pattern. Her secondary battery will be exceptionally strong. She will be 368 feet on the water line, 27 feet beam and will have a draft of 24 feet 7 inches when she has full supplies of stores and ammunition and 2,000 tons of coal on board. The wonderful Krupperized armor has proven so good that the Maine will have 12 inch plates of it put on her instead of the 16.5 inch Harveyized armor originally planned for.
This new battleship came with its own set of problems - not meeting speed expectations, an undisciplined crew,

Battleships and navy guns were a big deal at this time. One of the justifications for the Spanish-American War was that the United States needed to strengthen its presence in the Caribbean against the threat of other world powers such as their long-standing rival Great Britain. In addition, the United States felt they had economic interests to secure in Cuba. Some former United States citizens had fled to Cuba after the Confederate rebellion was crushed during the American Civil War. (Some of these people brought their slaves with them.)
After the United States decided to assist the people of Cuba in their fight against the Spanish government in their country, the U.S. sought to control the island’s foreign policy, exploiting an advantage in extending their own political power in the world.
Soon, there were fears that the western United States was open to a possible attack from Spain. Therefore, the United States sought to claim the Philippines as well, but first, they would have to fight both the Spanish and later, the militant Filipino population known as the Moros between 1899 and 1902.
Amidst all of these factors, the United States Navy had been preparing for the worst.
Tumblr media
The following is an excerpt from Indiana Senator Albert J. Beveridge’s speech “March of the Flag,” which he delivered during an Indiana Republican Meeting Indianapolis, Indiana on September 16, 1898:
“Hawaii is ours; Porto Rico is to be ours; at the prayer of her people Cuba finally will be ours; in the islands of the East, even to the gates of Asia, coaling stations are to be ours at the very least; the flag of a liberal government is to float over the Philippines, and may it be the banner that Taylor unfurled in Texas and Fremont carried to the coast.
The Opposition tells us that we ought not to govern a people without their consent. I answer, The rule of liberty that all just government derives its authority from the consent of the governed, applies only to those who are capable of self government. We govern the Indians without their consent, we govern our territories without their consent, we govern our children without their consent. How do they know what our government would be without their consent?”...
The ocean does not separate us from lands of our duty and desire - the oceans join us, rivers never to be dredged, canals never to be re paired. Steam joins us; electricity joins us-the very elements are in league with our destiny. Cuba not contiguous? Porto Rico not contiguous! Hawaii and the Philippines no contiguous! The oceans make them contiguous. And our navy will make them contiguous.
Tumblr media
1914 portrait of Albert Beveridge (1862-1927) (Source: Library of Congress)
He continues:
...So Hawaii furnishes us a naval base in the heart of the Pacific; the Ladrones another, a voyage further on; Manila another, at the gates of Asia - Asia, Asia, to the trade of whose hundreds of millions American merchants, American manufacturers, American farmers, have as good a right as those of Germany or France or Russia or England; Asia, whose commerce with England alone, amounts to billions of dollars every year; Asia, to whom Germany looks to take the surplus of her factories and foundries and mills; Asia, whose doors shall not be shut against American trade. Within two decades the bulk of Oriental commerce will be ours, - the richest commerce in the world. In the light of that golden future, our chain of new-won stations rise like ocean sentinels from the night of waters, - Porto Rico, a nobler Gibraltar; the Isthmian canal, a greater Suez; Hawaii, the Ladrones, the Philippines, commanding the Pacific!
Ah! as our commerce spreads, the flag of liberty will circle the globe, and the highways of the ocean - carrying trade of all mankind, be guarded by the guns of the republic. And, as their thunders salute the flag, benighted peoples will know that the voice of Liberty is speaking, at last, for them; that civilization is dawning, at last, for them - Liberty and Civilization, those children of Christ's gospel, who follow and never precede, the preparing march of commerce! It is the tide of God is great purposes made manifest in the instincts of our race, whose present phase is our personal profit, but whose far-off end is the redemption of the world and the Christianization of mankind. And he who throws himself before that current is like him who, with puny arm, tries to turn the gulf stream from its course, or stay, by idle incantations, the blessed processes of the sun...
Fellow Americans, we are God is chosen people... His power directed Dewey in the East and delivered the Spanish fleet into our hands on the eve of Libertyís natal day, as he delivered the elder Armada into the hands of our English sires two centuries ago.
For President Theodore Roosevelt, who was himself a committed imperialist,a display of America’s military might was not complete without both battleships and the boom of the big cannons.
It is therefore not unreasonable to assume that Burkin’s weapon, given the circumstances, would likely have been used as a weapon of war to further the objectives of U.S. Imperialism.

On September 3, 1906, as the new battleship Maine along with 93 other battleships, destroyers, and cruisers in three long columns sailed past the president and a crowd of thousands gathered off the coast of Long Island, they all gave a twenty-one-gun salute. The 46 powerful “Big Fighters” numbered 1, 178 six, eight, or thirteen-inch guns.

First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was on board the Dolphin nearby with other guests. Prior to the blasts of gunfire, a band played the Star-Spangled Banner and a flag was raised to the top of the pole on the naval yacht Mayflower, where the president was having lunch with government officials and military officers.
“By George, that is good,” the president could be heard shouting above the noise, followed by his infectious laughter.

“Any man who fails to be inspired by such a sight as this is a mighty poor American. Every American who sees it ought to be a better American.”

Portrait of Henry Baker from his book “The Colored Inventor: a Record of Fifty Years” published by the Crisis Publishing Company in 1913 (Source: Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture/New York Public Library)
Henry Edwin Baker, Jr. (1857-1928) was the third African American to enter the United States Naval Academy in 1875. He was appointed "copyist" in the United States Patent Office starting in 1877 and was later promoted to serve as an assistant patent examiner.
It was in this position that he would chronicle the history of African-American inventors.
In a 1902 essay titled “The Negro As An Inventor” for Daniel Wallace Culp’s “Twentieth Century Negro Literature; Or, A Cyclopedia of Thought on the Vital Topics Relating to the American Negro,” he wrote the following:
The official records of the United States Patent Office, with a single exception, give no hint whatever that of the thousands of mechanical inventions for which patents are granted annually by the government, any patent has ever been granted to a Negro. The single exception was the name of Henry Blair of Maryland, to whom the public records refer as "a colored man," stating that he was granted a patent for a corn harvester in 1834 and another patent for a similar invention in 1836.
It is altogether safe to assume that this Henry Blair was a "free person of color," as the language of those days would have phrased it; for the government seemed committed to the theory that "a slave could not take out a patent for his invention." And this dictum gave rise to some rather embarrassing situations on more occasions than one. For instance, in 1857, a Negro slave, living with his master in the state of Mississippi, perfected a valuable invention which his master sought to have protected by a patent. Now, in law, a patent is a contract between the government and the inventor or his assignees. The slave, although the inventor, could not under the law be a party to a contract, and therefore could not secure the patent himself. His master applied for the patent, but was refused on the ground that inasmuch as he was not the inventor and could not be the assignee of a slave, he could not properly make the required oath. The master was not satisfied with this interpretation of the law by the Commissioner of Patents, and at once appealed from the latter's decision to the Secretary of the Interior, who, in 1858, referred the case to the Attorney-General of the United States. This latter official, who was Hon. Jeremiah S. Black, of Pennsylvania, confirmed the decision of the Commissioner of Patent, and neither master nor slave was ever able to get a patent for the slave's invention. This case reported on page 171 of volume 9, of "Opinions of Attorneys-General, United States."
Another instance of a similar character occurred a few years later, in 1862, when a slave belonging to Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, invented a propeller for vessels. He constructed an excellent model of his invention, displaying remarkable mechanical skill in wood and metal working. He was not able to get his invention patented, but the merits of his invention were commented upon approvingly by a number of influential Southern newspapers, and his propeller was finally put in use by the Confederate navy.

He continues with the story of Eugene Burkins.
Another invention by a young colored man which has attracted considerable attention is the rapid-fire gun by Mr. Eugene Burkins, of Chicago. This gun has been examined by officers of the War and Navy Departments, and has been pronounced a valuable contribution to the scientific equipments for military and naval warfare.
The following description of Mr. Burkins' gun appeared in Howard's American Magazine some months ago:
"A brief description of the gun is not exactly out of place, although the Scientific American and other technical journals have long since given it to the world. It is an improvement upon all that has yet been done in the way of ordnance, and the principles involved in its construction can be applied to any size of gun, from a one-inch barker to a thirty-six-inch thunderer. The model as it now stands weighs 475 pounds, measures four inches at breech, and is constructed of the finest of gun brass at a cost of $3,500. There is a magazine at the breech in which a large number of heavy shells can be held in reserve, and in the action of the gun these slip down to their places and are fired at the rate of fourteen a minute, an improvement on the Maxim gun of four shots. The gun is elevated upon a revolving turret with electrical connections, enabling the gunner to direct the action of the machine with a touch of his finger. Firing, reloading and ejection of shells are all effected by electricity, and a child could conduct the work of manning the gun as easily as anyone."

Admiral George Dewey (1837-1917) is quoted in Baker’s biographical account as saying that it was
"by far the best machine-gun ever made."
G. F. Richings continues with more details:
It shoots seven times more a minute than the Gatling gun, and will doubtless take the place of other machine-guns. Several foreign countries have offered large sums for the right to manufacture it for their navies; but Mr. Burkins and Mr. Madden, his partner, proposed to control the manufacturing interest in this country.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, a Eugene Burkins was born in 1877 who would have been 33 in 1910. There is an entry in the 1900 census that identifies a Eugene Burkins living in Cook County, Illinois. A death certificate exists for a Eugene Burkins who died in 1929.
However, there is even more information available which is directly linked to Burkin’s name and success...

The following article appears in The Inter Ocean [Chicago, Illinois] dated Sunday, April 8, 1900:
NEGRO LAD INVENTS NEW GUN Eugene Burkin of Chicago Constructs a Rapid-Fire Machine Weapon Eugene Burkin, a colored boy of l9 years, who lives over on Chicago's great [West] Side, is the inventor of a rapid-fire machine gun which he claims is the most effective weapon of its kind in the world, and is destined to throw the inventions [of] Maxim and Nordenfeldt, now in general use in the armaments of the world, into the scrap heap. Several experts who have seen the model of Burkin's gun pronounce it a marvel of ingenuity and a terrible weapon. The boy is said to have refused an offer of $50,000 for his invention through motives or patriotism, he being desirous that the United States government should have the first opportunity to test and purchase the weapon. Burkin is a source of pride to the colored population of Chicago, who are jubilant that one or their race should develop the creative power. The boy has never had any mechanical training, yet all the work on his model has been his own. The first idea of the weapon came to him during the Spanish-American war, when the magnificent work of the American gunners directed his thoughts to guns and their improvement. He constructed his first model of wood, his only tool being a jackknife. The lack of funds then threatened to put a stop to the young inventor's work, but he finally obtained enough money to go into an ironworks on the West Side, which gave him the use or its tools and machinery for $5 a day. Here he constructed the model, which he sent to the patent [office] at Washington, which has already allowed seventeen of his claims on the weapon. Prominent men of the colored race are using their influence to induce the War Department at Washington to conduct a series of tests with the gun. It has been christened the "Maine."
Rapid-fire guns had been around for a long time. There was clearly a sort of arms race going on.
While the Burkins gun had evidently exceeded the rate of fire for other guns of its time, the manufacturers of these other guns rolled out modified designs with multiple barrels, increasing the potential firepower 10-fold and beyond.
This might be one of the reasons that the Burkins gun did not see as much action on the field of battle. It is difficult to find much information on its usage or any surviving models.
Here is what the other guns named in comparison to the Burkins gun looked like:
Nordenfeldt Machine Gun by the  Nordenfelt Company
Inventor: Swedish engineer Heldge Palmcrantz

When Maxim built his first working model in 1884, he found it could fire 666 rounds of ammunition in under a minute.
In one demonstration, Hiram Maxim chopped down a tree with one of his guns.

Gatling put issued a public challenge for anyone to prove their gun’s superiority to his. It appeared in an English publication in September 1881 and read as follows:
Recently many articles have appeared in the press claiming superior advantages for . . . other machine guns over the Gatling system. In order to test the question which is the better gun, the undersigned offers to fire his gun (the Gatling) against any other gun on the following wagers, viz:
First--£100 that the Gatling can fire more shots in a given time, say one minute, than any other gun in the world.
Second--£100 that the Gatling can give more hits on a target, firing, say one minute, at a range of 800 or 1000 yards, than any other gun.
The winning party to contribute the wagers won to charitable objects.
The time and place for the trials to be mutually agreed upon. Trials of the above character will do more to determine the efficiency of the guns than newspaper articles ever so cleverly written.

Henry Baker stated that slavery had been a barrier for African-American inventors. Chances are that if Burkins had been born during his parents’ generation, he would not have received the credit he was due for his hard work and it would have likely ended up being used for the purposes of the U.S. government or a government fighting against the United States while someone else got credit or no one at all. Either way, it would have been an unsatisfactory outcome for Burkins. Surely, his invention would not have carried on his name as we are aware of it today.
At the end of the 19th Century, the United States Patent Office sought to document information regarding patents submitted by “colored inventors.” They received from the public 400 claims of such patents that were granted and about another 400 more cases in which the person attempted to submit a patent upon completion of their invention but abandoned the application process altogether for one reason or another.
Summarizing 2 attempts by the patent office as of 1913, Baker wrote:
“...something over 1,200 instances have been gathered as representing patents granted to colored inventors, but so far only about 800 of these have been verified as definitely belonging to that class.”
Most often, African-American inventors did not have the means to hire a patent lawyer and submit a patent application.
Even Burkins could not have done it alone. He had to wait a full year after he submitted his patent application to receive approval. First, he needed help funding the construction of the gun and later on, he would need assistance with the manufacturing process once it was ready.
He received financial support from a number of prominent black citizens. One of the major backers of this effort was Major John C. Buckner, an Illinois Internal Revenue Collector and strong advocate of black empowerment.
Another wealthy man in Chicago, Martin B. Madden, furnished over $3,000 towards the perfection of Burkin’s model. Burkins became an entrepreneur when they started the Burkins-Madden Gun Company together in Chicago.
The company, which specialized in “manufacturing and dealing in firearms and ammunition”, was incorporated with a capital of $50,000.
Five years later, Burkins patented a new and improved Bottle Seal involving the use of cement, a cork, and a stopper.
Tumblr media
This invention has relation to non-refillable bottles, and has for its object the provision of novel means whereby if the bottle be opened after having been originally filled the integrity of the bottle as an original package will be destroyed, thus preventing its fraudulent reuse and indicating to the purchaser that the bottle has been refilled.
In carrying out my invention I provide a bottle and a cap of glass, metal, composition, or other suitable material not too hard to break adapted to be fitted over the top of and securely fastened to the neck of the bottle and of such form and construction that in order to remove the cork from the bottle the cap must be broken off, a portion thereof remaining immovably fixed on the neck of the bottle and serving to show at a glance that the bottle has been opened after having been once filled...
The collar E of the cap screws down upon the threaded exterior of the neck A of the bottle and is intended to remain in fixed position thereupon, and in order to retain it in position a layer of cement G is inter posed between the thread on the neck and the thread on the inside of the collar, so that when the cap is screwed down upon the neck and the cement is allowed to dry it will be impossible to unscrew the cap from the bottle...
After the upper part of the cap has been broken 05 the collar'E and a portion of the legs F will remain upon the neck of the bottle and will indicate that the bottle has been opened and prevent the bottle from being used again as an original package, the integrity of the same as a whole, considering the cap as an essential portion of the bottle, having been destroyed by breaking off the cap.
His final patent was the new and improved Milk Dipper in 1906.
Tumblr media
which when opened will allow the milk to discharge from the bottom of the dipping-cup and which will automatically close when released, thereby shutting oil. the discharge of milk from the cup.
By this time, Burkins and his mother Francis had moved to St. Louis, Missouri.
In 1910, Burkins was self-employed as chauffeur and he owned a restaurant.
Henry Baker used Burkin’s story last in his essay on black inventors. He concluded his work with the following statement...
These inventions show how completely in error are those who constantly assert that the Negro has made no lasting contribution to the civilization of the age, and they prove conclusively that under favorable environment he is capable of performing his whole duty in the work of mankind whether it be tilling the earth with his hoe or advancing the world by his thought.
We may never know for sure if Eugene Burkins was an Imperialist at heart or one who took the side of the Anti-Imperialist League against the use of weapons like that of his own making towards destructive uses in foreign lands.
We don’t know if Mr. Burkins was okay with depriving other people of their personal rights to self-determination in favor of U.S. nationalism and western civilization.
What we do know is that a black man in the United States of America got to work and when he was done, he chose to honor his national heritage.
Did he ever make his nation proud?
Did he ever have any regrets about his work?
What we do know is that the one they wanted to fail was successful...and regardless of what they thought about him, his aim was high and he gave it his best shot.
