Day 6
I overslept today, and even in deep sleep, I could somehow hear my own loud snoring—except it was just my ear picking up on it.
The first stop was the tea fields, a 20-minute drive from the hotel. Unfortunately, the cloudscape dominated the sky. I tried some Shizuoka tea, and it took me back to my first tea experience in Japan back in 2010.

Rather than waiting for the clouds to clear, I decided to explore the opposite side and wandered into a small forest, capturing some interesting scenes along the way.
Next, I headed to the port industrial area to photograph the sea and its surroundings.

Glancing at my watch, it was only 1 pm. Instead of heading straight to the campsite, I returned to the hotel, took a shower, and had lunch at Coco Curry.
By the time I reached the campsite, 600 metres above sea level, Mount Fuji finally stood clear and bold against the sky. While others were busy setting up their camps, I relaxed in my car, typing this.

I’m loving this rare, once-in-a-lifetime moment—watching the moon stuck in the middle of Mount Fuji, looking like a pearl emerging from the mountain.

I’ll rest for now, have dinner from 7-11, maybe watch something on YouTube, and hopefully, by midnight, I’ll get a chance to capture a clear, starry night.
Tomorrow, after breakfast, I’ll head to Lake Motosu, weather permitting.
Day 7 to be continued…

Nurturing Tradition: Ideboku Farm's Artisanal Approach to Dairy Farming
Location: Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, Japan Timestamp: 13:37・2024/02/28
Fujifilm X100V with 5% diffusion filter ISO 800 for 1/250 sec. at ƒ/2.0 Provia/Standard film simulation
The Ideboku Farm is a meticulously maintained boutique dairy farm. Here, cows are milked to produce the milk used in manufacturing gelato, yogurt, and artisan cheeses.
Other shops can be found throughout Shizuoka Prefecture, with one shop each in Kanagawa Prefecture and Chiba  Prefecture.
This dairy farm is the antithesis to industrial farming. The dairy products produced here are mostly sold within the local community at boutique shops and served to children at local school lunch cafeterias.
Although my photo only shows Holsteins, the farm also raises Jersey and Brown Swiss cows.
Holstein milk is best suited for drinking; Jersey milk is ideal for making butter and ice cream; and Brown Swiss milk is said to be most suitable for cheese and drinking.
This dairy farm was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Not only was the gelato mouth-watering, but seeing up close the clean barns and adorable healthy cows that seemed very healthy and stress-free.
Check out the full write-up (https://www.pix4japan.com/blog/20240228-cows | 2-minute read) where I include access information, Google Maps links, and sources for further reading.

Day 4 and 5 around Shizuoka Prefecture
Didn’t do much on Day 4—just relaxed and spent some time planning the first two days of driving once I picked up the rental car. Had lunch at a cosy, family-run restaurant just behind the hotel. Yakisoba and Okonomiyaki—simple and satisfying.

Today, Day 5,
Mount Fuji finally revealed itself more clearly! I walked 2km from the hotel to the car rental and snapped a few photos of the surroundings, with Fuji in the background. It took less than five minutes to sort everything out at the rental, and soon I was off on my journey—an hour and 20-minute drive to Miho no Matsubara.

There, I had the chance to walk along Kami no Michi (神の道)—the “Pathway of the Gods.” As I walked towards the shrine, I quietly asked for clear, beautiful weather all week, hoping for the perfect conditions to photograph the foothills of Mount Fuji.

On the way back, I stopped by an open field near the Fuji River and stumbled upon an interesting farm with a wide, open view of Mount Fuji. Unfortunately, the mountain was already shrouded in clouds by the time I arrived. I think I should return tomorrow morning to try to capture the scene again.

What a great start to the week.
Day 6 to be continued...
