It has arrived!!

Wow! It did NOT take long to get a hold of this...but here it is~ This is Season 1 of "Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna," or "She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat," on DVD. This isn't a review, per se, just some introspection alongside posting what came with this set. Read below the cut!

I got into this story via the comic first, and only late last year, so when the announcement of S2 was starting soon, I eventually found out 1) there was a drama to begin with (and they look so close to the actual characters??) and 2) someone had fansubbed the first season already (thanks Furritsubs!). I fell in love with the drama, fell in love with the story all over again, and caught up just in time for S2 to start airing and the fansubs to come out every weekend~ I was there for Episode 30, live lol

Here we are, 6 months later, and S2 is getting a DVD set as well, and I pre-ordered so fast lol. That alone, however, also got me pumped into actually buying S1 in the meantime. This is my first overseas proxy purchase, and I'm very satisfied with the whole process. I've done regular business with cdjapan before, but that was long...long... ago. More recently, I had used them to directly (not proxy) buy that Sailor Moon Raisonné book, and that also came in great condition. But not as fast as this! No damages, it came here from Japan in literally 2 days...it's new (though I did say I was okay with secondhand). It's just so beautiful.

I can't watch it yet, unfortunately, as I don't have a region-free player at this time. I mean, I know what to expect - slightly lower quality video and no subtitles (not even Japanese), but there IS a bonus video in here. Gonna taunt me for a while. While I am sad this show isn't considered for selling in Bluray, I'm happy to have an official product in my hands, and I always have the fansub files to watch and take screenshots of, which have the quality of the raw tv broadcast.

For now, though, enjoy these preliminary photos of the inside, reversible cover, and some pages from the bonus booklet. There's an interview in there with the scriptwriter that I'll have to work on later for you all to enjoy, if you're into behind-the-scenes stuff!

Survey Results! We're a bunch of courteous folks (lol)

The Tumblr version of the poll finally ended, so here are the results that I got between both here and over on Twitter. The results are quite overwhelmingly in one direction:

Twitter definitely had a more active presence for the 12 hours it got for its poll. Those are 17 different people! I can't even vote in that version - I get to see the results live! But I did have to pick something if I wanted to do the same over here, hence that third option. I AM surprised, though, to see that not many actually picked that option, so there are definitely Tsukutabe fans following me!

Or...there are fans that check out the fandom tags frequently, at least. Hey! You should follow me! I draw a lot of NomoKasu~~!

Anyway, what does it look like? Well it looks like a lot of us are simple and courteous folk. "Nomoto" and "Kasuga" are how they're referred to in most of the stories, and in summaries, etc. They still address each other as such (they're so polite! lol), so that's what we tend to use, too! While we know their first names, it still feels odd to use it because they don't, like we're being considerate of their own ways of addressing.

Or, you may just call them that because it sticks to your brain quicker. That's fine, too! Sometimes it's hard to remember full names! I barely remember the names of all the regulars at my job, so I take what my mind can get down!

But hey, lookit you, little handful of folks that endearingly call them by their given names! All Tumblr folk, it seems~ You see them as close friends, just like Sena (Nagumo for those that didn't realize it during the poll's active time). But I see we got a long way to go before that becomes a majority, if at all.

...Do you think we may all start shifting that way when the actual ladies themselves finally shift gears? Or will we all be stuck in our ways by then lol?

I guess only time will tell. Right now, for me anyway, it feels weird to think of them with their given names. A weird background, nagging feeling. Nomoto and Kasuga just sound more Familiar. Friendly? Something like that.

Feel free to reply with your reasons, as well! I am especially curious of the YukiToto folks!

Well, I can now pinpoint exactly where Nomoto and Kasuga started falling for one another (in the drama). I saw the sign(s)~ /aceofbase

While Nomoto really started since the beginning, it was just kinda emotions raging in general because OMG there's someone who loves to eat a lot of food and she wants to make a lot of food!

But the way Kasuga reached out to her to take care of her when her period started was that "sparkling" moment for her. She didn't even MENTION anything but Kasuga had a feeling something was wrong and reached out to her. She got her supplies. She cooked her comfort food...and she gave her some soothing talk about self-care and to not push oneself and compare with others.

Anyway, see, that is the look of someone finally struck with the Arrow of Love~

As for Kasuga...ah, stoic Kasuga... At first, I'm pretty sure she just wanted to invite Nomoto out to the market because they just haven't hung out recently and wanted to make up for it. But if you watch, there's signs of something sparkling as she watches Nomoto get all giddy~

She didn't want that day to end. She saw that pumpkin and thought of something to keep them hanging out longer, and them talking about these things they would've never done before meeting each other? Nomoto we know is already stricken, and then Kasuga admitting she's blushing. It's definitely more subtle with Kasuga, but you can just TELL this was the moment. This was the moment she wanted a connection.

Romance wasn't exactly in her mind just yet, but there was definitely this vibe of "I want to be close to her." And it's really heart-warming to see.

...anyway, ending on a silly note: Okay, ladies, I answered your S2 Ep20 question way more specifically than you two did. Do I win a big ol' homemade meal made by you two or something?

It was such an amazing feeling when I finally figured it out. I, too, went through Nomoto's phase of "okay, I'm a lesbian, but apparently not lesbian enough based on this media I look at. So...am I REALLY a lesbian?" In my case, it was a thing back in my college days when out lesbians were like...flirting with me, only one touched me on my cheek iirc (nothing worse than that), and I was SUPER uncomfortable. Cue me trying to inch my way back to Leigh for comforts lol. But then I was wondering Things because a lot of yuri that I look at is very sexual eventually and I'm like...well, that's not how Leigh and I confessed/started dating. Uhhh...???

So am I really a lesbian? The answer - as Nomoto ALSO learned was -yes, of course! But I wasn't broken or anything. I just had specific wants/needs that are mine and mine alone.

I guess this also boils down to a post hyping up "She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat." Go in for the cute food bonding, get invested in the talks about womens' issues and LGBTQ issues in Japan (and acespec representation)

Once again the calendar has reached the lovely day of April 4 (three weeks ago)! That means it is (was) the birthday of my favorite Precure, Yukishiro Honoka! 20 years after her series she would be about 34 years old today, if she were real.

It's no great secret that the formula for the original series was taking two girls from opposite walks of life and teaming them up, to represent the strength of friendship. Honoka's charm was her intelligence and pursuit of science, while remaining kind and fairly humble despite her wealthy background. Without Nagisa's influence she probably wouldn't be taking many risks, and without Honoka's influence, Nagisa would probably be dead. Well, neither of them would be Precure so probably not, but both would definitely be worse off.

I haven't actually watched Otona Precure yet, but it is my understanding that Black and White appear at the very end of the last episode, looking the same as ever. I'm not clear if they have any dialog. The Kamikta Twins (the most consistently quality part of this fandom) released a piece of artwork that included aged up designs for Nagisa and Honoka. I have to assume they're official and Toei-sanctioned.

Last year, I said I hoped for an Otona-style sequel to FWPC. The middling to negative reception of the series has me second guessing that. But the art is nice.
