Understanding GST: A Beginner's Guide for Local Entrepreneurs
Introduction to GST
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services across India. Introduced on July 1, 2017, GST replaced a host of indirect taxes previously levied by the central and state governments. It aims to simplify the taxation process and create a single, unified market across the country.
Why GST?
Before GST, businesses in India faced numerous indirect taxes such as VAT, excise duty, service tax, and others. This multiplicity of taxes led to a cascading effect, where taxes were levied on top of other taxes, increasing the overall tax burden on businesses. GST addresses these issues by introducing a single tax structure, eliminating the cascading effect, and making compliance more straightforward.
Key Components of GST
GST is divided into three main components:
Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST): Collected by the Central Government on intra-state sales (e.g., a sale within Chandigarh).
State Goods and Services Tax (SGST): Collected by the State Government on intra-state sales.
Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST): Collected by the Central Government on inter-state sales (e.g., a sale from Chandigarh to Delhi).
Understanding GST Rates
GST has different tax slabs that apply to various goods and services:
0%: Essential goods like fruits, vegetables, and books.
5%: Items like clothing, footwear, and processed food.
12%: Goods like mobile phones and business class air tickets.
18%: Services such as telecommunications, IT services, and restaurant bills.
28%: Luxury items like automobiles and high-end electronics.
Who Needs to Register for GST?
Registration Thresholds:
Businesses with a turnover exceeding ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh for special category states) must register for GST.
Inter-state suppliers must register regardless of turnover.
E-commerce operators facilitating online sales need to register.
Benefits of GST Registration:
Legal Recognition: GST Registration in Chandigarh businesses gain legal recognition as suppliers of goods or services.
Input Tax Credit: Ability to claim input tax credit on purchases, reducing tax liability.
Competitive Edge: Enhances business credibility and competitiveness in the market.
Step-by-Step Process for GST Registration
Prepare Documents:

Complete Registration:
Log in using the TRN.
Fill in Part B of the registration form.
Upload necessary documents.
Submit the application using DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) or EVC (Electronic Verification Code).
Receive GSTIN:
The application is verified by the GST officer.
Upon approval, receive the GST Identification Number (GSTIN).
Filing GST Returns
Registered businesses must file GST returns regularly. The types of returns include:
GSTR-1: Monthly return for outward supplies.
GSTR-2A: Auto-drafted return for inward supplies.
GSTR-3B: Summary return of monthly transactions.
GSTR-9: Annual return consolidating all transactions for the year.
Compliance Tips:
Timely Filing: Ensure returns are filed on time to avoid penalties.
Accurate Data: Maintain accurate records of sales, purchases, and input tax credits.
Use Technology: Leverage GST software to automate filing and compliance.
Benefits of GST for Local Entrepreneurs
Reduced Tax Burden:
Elimination of multiple taxes simplifies compliance and reduces the overall tax burden.
Improved Cash Flow:
Input tax credit mechanism allows businesses to claim credit on taxes paid for inputs, improving cash flow.
Enhanced Market Reach:
Uniform tax rates across states enable easier inter-state trade and market expansion.
Boost to Startups:
Lower compliance costs and a simplified tax structure benefit startups and small businesses.
Transparency and Accountability:
GST fosters transparency and accountability in the tax system, reducing corruption.
Challenges and Solutions
Challenges:
Complexity of Compliance: Understanding and managing GST compliance can be challenging for new entrepreneurs.
Technical Issues: Online registration and filing may present technical challenges.
Solutions:
Seek Professional Help: Engage GST consultants in Chandigarh or experts for guidance.
Utilize Software Solutions: Leverage technology to streamline GST processes and compliance.
Conclusion
Understanding GST is crucial for local entrepreneurs in Chandigarh. It simplifies the tax structure, reduces compliance costs, and opens up new opportunities for business growth. By registering for GST and adhering to compliance requirements, entrepreneurs can enjoy the benefits of this unified tax system, positioning their businesses for success in the competitive market landscape.

Different types of cold storage services
Cold storage services are essential for manufacturing units requiring refrigerated or frozen product storage. These services are crucial for preserving the quality and freshness of perishable goods, such as food, pharmaceuticals, and other temperature-sensitive materials. This blog will discuss different types of cold storage services that manufacturing units can consider for their specific needs.
Ambient temperature-controlled storage: This type of storage is suitable for products that require storage at a controlled room temperature. It is ideal for materials sensitive to humidity, light, or temperature fluctuations.
Chilled storage: Chilled storage maintains products between 0°C to 8°C. This type of storage is ideal for storing fresh produce, meat, dairy products, and other perishable goods.
Frozen storage: Frozen storage maintains products between -18°C and -30°C. It is ideal for storing frozen food products, vaccines, and other temperature-sensitive materials.
Blast freezing: Blast freezing is a quick-freezing process used to preserve the quality and freshness of products. This process involves freezing products at a temperature of -40°C, which helps to prevent ice crystals from forming and maintains the integrity of the product.
Controlled atmosphere storage: This type of storage involves modifying the environment in which products are stored, to maintain their quality and freshness. This method is particularly useful for fruits and vegetables that release ethylene gas as they ripen, which can cause spoilage.
Refrigerated transport: Refrigerated transport is used to transport perishable goods from one location to another while maintaining the required temperature throughout the journey. This type of service is ideal for transporting fresh produce, meat, dairy products, and other perishable goods.
In conclusion, manufacturing units have several options for cold storage services. The specific needs of the ciller UAE services-etermine the kind of service that is needed.

“The feathers are flying over whether rotisserie chicken is an essential good, or a bourgeoisie fancy, but the real worry is how faceless bureaucrats interpret and reinterpret regulations.
Whether that’s issuing an edict on no cooked food at grocery shops – often the elderly and those who live in shacks without proper cooking facilities rely on purchasing cooked food – or switching from one week to the next the okay on transporting wine for export to a ban on transporting alcohol unless it’s for sanitisers.
Perhaps even more worrying in this exercise of bureaucratic largesse is the police, who have the powers to confiscate, fine and arrest. And so reports have surfaced of police confiscating beers from within people’s houses, never mind the scores of complaints of abuse of power, assault and the like against these law enforcers.
An official police statement headed “SAPS displays unbiased commitment in the fight against the Covid-19 Virus”, outlines the arrest of 11 police officials and one reservist at the weekend for breaches of the lockdown regulations. Those include partying in a Phuthaditjhaba tavern, and the arrest of six members of two Pretoria police stations for having stolen over R30,000 in cash from a group of people going through a road block.
When the law becomes a law unto itself, the state and its public service machinery is compromised, dysfunctional and without capacity.
To date no one has fully explained why in the first 10 days or so spaza shops were closed. Never mind tendering an apology. That’s despite all public indications right from the first ministerial briefing on 24 March showing that spaza shops should remain open.
Three days ahead of lockdown, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula encouraged everyone to “walk to their local shops”, while on Day One of lockdown Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel said “over the next three weeks, grocery stores and spaza shops will be the only places were South Africans need to go for basic and essential goods”.
It didn’t happen that way as spaza shops were closed down, alongside the informal sector food suppliers, be they amagwinya sellers or fruit and vegetable hawkers. It hit hard not only the food security of millions of people already vulnerable but also security of income, given the widespread dependence on the informal economy.
A ministerial directive on 6 April finally fixed this – spaza shops and fruit and vegetable informal traders were finally declared essential services – with the rider that they needed to be South African-owned with all the necessary permits.
While the status remains unclear of the support packages for hawkers and at least some categories of self-employed, at least the support measures for spaza shops and general dealers, initially set to be announced on 2 April, were finally made public on 18 April.
The administrative burden to qualify for support is not insubstantial, ranging from compliance with tax and UIF requirements and owning the necessary permits. The onus is put on those looking for assistance and support to comply – and prove their compliance.
The Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown seems to have shattered politicians’ talk of the capable developmental state. Four days after the end of the initial 21-day Covid-19 lockdown, and three days into the two-week extension, few if any clear indications exist that the state has delivered on its promises of support.
If and when that support comes, it may just be too lat”

4 Things to Know About Trans Fatty Acids
Trans fatty acids are formed when oils are exposed to high warmth as well as high pressure in the presence of hydrogen gas, a procedure called hydrogenation. This makes an unsaturated fat extra solid at space temperature level, which expands its service life and also boosts structure in refined foods.
Are trans fats unhealthy?
It was once believed that these fats were much better than saturated fats because they were unsaturated. We now know that trans fats boost LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and they lower HDL cholesterol (great cholesterol), a harmful combination that enhances threat for heart disease.
What foods contain trans fatty acids?
Trans fat can be determined in foods as partly hydrogenated oils. Any kind of item that lists partially hydrogenated oil on the active ingredients listing will certainly have trans fats. The excellent news is that as a result of boosted recognition as well as nourishment labeling regulations, less foods have trans fat, as well as consumption has actually reduced in recent years.
Common foods that contain trans fats are:
Commercial baked items (cakes, cookies, doughnuts)
Fried foods (French french fries, fish sticks, fried chicken)
Margarine as well as veggie shortenings
Chips and crackers
The FDA is calling for all food producers to eliminate man-made trans fats from their products by 2018. Items with normally happening trans fats (like some cheeses and also meats) will proceed to be permitted.
How much trans fat can I eat?
The Institute of Medicine advises that trans fat intake be as reduced as feasible. The American Heart Association advises that trans fat be 1% or less of your complete everyday calorie intake.
Should I count on food labels for trans fat information?
Since 2006, the Food and Medicine Management (FDA) has actually called for food suppliers to detail trans fat on the Nourishment Details label. Unfortunately, if the food contains less than 0.5 grams per serving, the FDA allows manufacturers to state that the product has 0 grams of trans fat. These percentages that slide via the fractures build up. The only means to play it safe is to read the ingredients and leave out foods which contain hydrogenated oils. Even better, select minimally refined foods for the bulk of your diet plan, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains as well as cereals, beans and also legumes, low-fat or fat-free dairy items, as well as nuts and also seeds.

China turns to internet for food supplies amid virus fears

China turns to internet for food supplies amid virus fears
Wang Feng, house-bound by China’s virus outbreak, counts on the parka-clad delivery drivers of e-commerce giant JD.com to keep her kitchen stocked.
Demand for online food vendors has surged since China’s government told the public to stay home as part of the most sweeping anti-disease controls ever imposed.
On Tuesday, Wang’s phone buzzed with a text message that a delivery had arrived. The retiree bundled up against the winter cold, put on a face mask and emerged from her apartment complex to collect walnut milk and other goods from shelves on the sidewalk – an anti-virus measure to limit contact with drivers who normally go door to door.
“They work really hard, and it’s dangerous,” said Wang. “Without their services, we would not be able to survive at all.”
JD.com Inc. and rivals including Pinduoduo, Missfresh Inc. and Alibaba Group’s Hema are scrambling to fill a boom in orders while trying to protect their employees.
E-commerce is one of the few industries to thrive after anti-virus controls starting in late January closed factories, restaurants, cinemas, offices and shops nationwide and extinguished auto and real estate sales.
The government is trying to revive economic activity but has told anyone who can work from home to stay there. Some cities have imposed controls that allow only one member of a family out each day. That creates a ready market for online entertainment and shopping.
“I can’t go out and can’t go to work,” said one of Wang’s neighbors, Chen Guang, who was picking up a box of vegetables from the sidewalk shelves under a sign that said, “Contactless Distribution Point.”
Chen, who wore an entry pass for his apartment complex around his neck, said he shops online two to three times a week to replenish kitchen supplies.
JD says over the past month, its drivers delivered 71,500 tons of rice, flour and other grains – 20 times more than the same period last year, – 27 million liters of cooking oil and 50,000 tons of meat, eggs, vegetables and other fresh products.
Pinduoduo said orders for apples, strawberries and other fresh fruit from its 586,000 sellers of agricultural products were up 120% in January.
Disease fears in other Asian markets also have propelled e-commerce demand for food and hygiene supplies. The Korea Economic Daily said online mask sales in South Korea rose 37,000% in January over a year earlier.
Chinese e-commerce companies emerged in a market that lacked credit cards, reliable delivery and other features their counterparts in the United States and Europe take for granted. That required JD, Alibaba and some other competitors to create their own online payments systems or networks of warehouses and delivery drivers.
JD has a 180,000-strong workforce of drivers and warehouse workers and says it is hiring 20,000 more to meet demand. The company said Dada Group, a delivery service in which JD is an investor, is adding 15,000 to its workforce.
At a JD distribution center on Beijing’s southeast side, employees in red parkas, masks and gloves sorted packages and sprayed them with disinfectant.
Goods from oranges and toilet paper to 32-packs of beer and cat litter came off trucks on one side of the building and passed down a conveyor belt to be sorted for individual drivers. Padded blue boxes held fresh fruit and vegetables.
On the other side of the building, drivers loaded battery-powered three-wheeled delivery vans emblazoned with JD’s logo, a cartoon dog called Joy.
The average driver delivers 150 to 190 packages a day, according to Sun Lansong, the facility’s manager.
“Customers used to buy a lot of electronics,” Sun said. “Now they are buying rice, noodles, grain, oil, disinfectant, masks and so on.”
Sun said distribution center employees and drivers spray packages, vehicles and their work stations with disinfectant and wash their hands repeatedly during the day. All are issued masks and gloves.
“Before, it might have been rude to talk to people while wearing a mask. But now it feels much better,” said Sun.
Other companies say they impose similar safety measures.
Yanxuan, an online consumer products vendor owned by NetEase Inc., said it is giving away masks, hand sanitizer and other anti-disease products in Hubei, the province at the center of the outbreak.
Pinduoduo Inc. announced the launch of a “Help the Farmers” channel this week to allow customers to buy directly from producers in poor areas.
It said that was intended to support suppliers that are having trouble getting shipments to traditional markets due to anti-virus measures. The company promised 500 million yuan ($70 million) to subsidize purchases.
Traditional grocery stores are open and heavily stocked as the government tries to reassure the public that food supplies are ample following a bout of panic buying after most access to the central city of Wuhan was suspended on Jan. 23. But many households are avoiding going out at all.
“Now everyone pays more attention to it, for their own and everyone’s safety, to try to go out as little as possible, responding to the nation’s call,” Wang said.
E-commerce companies also have been squeezed by the anti-disease controls. Employees were stranded in their hometowns following the Lunar New Year holiday after bus and train services in some areas were suspended to contain the outbreak.
Sun said one of his facility’s employees from Hubei, the province at the center of the outbreak, and two from neighboring Henan province had yet to return.
“I’m not afraid. Still the same. It feels like coming to work is making a contribution to society,” said Sun. “It sounds like this virus is terrible. In fact, the virus can be prevented.”
The volume of goods being delivered has risen 30% since the outbreak, said a JD driver, Li Hu. He said the effort required is partly offset by only being allowed to take packages to a sidewalk collection point.
“Customers are very supportive,” Li said. “They all understand the volume is bigger. They are short of daily necessities,” he said. “As soon as we arrive and call, customers come down immediately.”

Walmart Requires Certain Produce Suppliers to Deploy Blockchain Technology
U.S. retail giant Walmart and its division Sam’s Club, a membership-only retail warehouse club, will require suppliers of leafy greens to implement a farm-to-store tracking system based on blockchain tech, Reuters reported September 24.
The end-to-end traceability system is based on distributed ledger technology (DLT) developed by computing giant IBM. According to the report, Walmart will require suppliers to implement blockchain tech by September 2019.
The company’s Vice President of Food Safety, Frank Yiannas, stated that Walmart will require a similar traceability system “for other fresh fruit and vegetable providers within the next year.” Walmart told Bloomberg that over 100 companies will be required to implement IBM’s blockchain service.
Walmart claims that blockchain tech implementation will “dramatically [improve] efficiency.” Frank Yiannas conducted a traceability experiment with sliced mangoes, asking his team to track that product back to a farm:
“It took them nearly seven days, as the methods of tracking today are antiquated — sometimes done with pencil and paper.”
The company claims that with blockchain technology, that process will take just 2.2 seconds.
According to Reuters, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) consulted with Walmart to improve product traceability in order to help health officials track and manage the outbreaks of foodborne illnesses.
Earlier this year, five people died and dozens more were hospitalized in an outbreak of the E. Coli virus in the U.S. The CDC estimated that over 200 people were infected in total.
Recently, Walmart filed tech-related patents for several different blockchain applications, including the improvement of secure deliveries, methods for managing smart appliances, and a healthcare information system, among others. In June, Walmart and nine other companies partnered with IBM to release a blockchain-based system for tracking food through its supply chain globally.

This clarification gives major compliance relief to industry as there are frequent inter-state movement of such kind in the course of providing services to customers or for the purposes of getting such goods repaired or refurbished or for any self-use. Service provided using such goods would in any case attract applicable tax. Raw Cotton Purchase GST on supply of raw cotton by agriculturist will be liable for GST, which is to be paid by the recipient of such supply under reverse charge. Supply of E-Waste Products Supply of e-waste attracts 5% GST rate. Concerned notification to be amended to make it amply clear that this rate applies only to e-waste discarded as waste by the consumer or bulk consumer.

I eat a lot of fruits & veggies being vegan so I get some great stuff from G&D, I can’t wait to see the beautiful produce they’ll have in this month. Think pumpkins, squash & winter vegetables.
It’s so nice to have a lovely place a stone’s throw away where I can meet friends for coffee, as a treat to myself or for when I just want to grab my fav sweet treats when it’s my time of the month. They do the best Vegan chocolate & caramel brownies!

I absolutely love farmers markets and these are just round the corner from me so they’re a great way for me to get local fresh produce & unusual stuff that you cant get in your local supermarket. I like talking with the vendors about their farms & produce as it makes me feel nostalgic about the farm I grew up on as a child.
I cant think of anything better than browsing the market on a chilly Saturday morning this time of year. Although in my case when ive been up writing until silly am I rush round about lunchtime ha!

India holds the second worldwide position in agricultural production. Agriculture in India has a long history. Since more than 10,000 years majority of Indians are dependent on the industry. As agriculture is counted the main business of most of the people, it plays a significant role in the overall socio economic development of the country. According to the Annual Report 2009-2010 of the Ministry of Agriculture the total geographical area of India is 328.7 million hectares of which 140.3 million hectares is net sown area, while 193.7 million hectares is the gross cropped area. Among world nations, India is the largest producer of fresh fruits. It mainly produces Sesame seeds, fennel, badian, jute, cashew nuts, pulses, ginger turmeric, mangoes, chillies and peppers. India holds the second largest population of cattle. It has around 281million cattle. It holds the second position in producing cashew, cabbage, cotton seed, fresh vegetables, garlic, cardamom, onions, wheat, rice sugarcane, tomatoes, coconut, ground nut, tea, green peas, cauliflower, potato and inland fish. India is a country which produces tobacco, rapeseed, coconut and tomatoes in large amount. So, it is called the third largest producer of these produce. The Indian Agriculture Research Institute (INRI) was established in 1905. INRI was responsible for the research leading the Indian Green Revolution of the 1970s. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the apex body in agriculture and related fields. They have to look after all researches and education of the related field. The union minister of Agriculture is the president of ICAR. The Indian Agriculture Statistics Research Institute looks after and develops new techniques, and they design the experiments, analyses data in agriculture and they develop the strategies to get maximum from animal and plant breed. However, Government of India has set up Farmers Commission to completely evaluate the agriculture program but still farmers are facing some problems. According to World Bank : Indian Branch the allocation of water is insufficient and unsustainable. The irrigation infrastructure is deteriorating. At some places the overuse of water is currently being covered by pumping facility but as these are falling by foot of underground water each year, this is a limited resource. Secondary, farmers in India are mostly illiterate, socially economically backward or incapable of developing new ideas. They are inadequate or inefficient to implement fast and progressive actions. Farmers are facing the problems of finance and lack of marketing services for farm produce. Still as agriculture being the Indian business, future of agriculture in India is bright. Government is taking active interest in agriculture and it is giving the highest priority to it. The Tenth Plan allocation was comparatively lower than 11th Plan. The 11th Plan is considerably higher over the 10th plan. An amount of US$ 19 billion has been allocated for the Ministry of Agriculture during the Eleventh Five Year Plan. Agriculture is one of the strongholds of the Indian economy and accounts for 14.6 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2009-2010, and provisional percent of the total export is 10.23 percent. Moreover, the agriculture sector, provides employment of 52 to 55 percent of the work force. As per the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) farm output will grow by 10 percent to 114 million ton (MT) in the Kharif season, while in winter season( Rabbi season) is expected to increase 2 percent that will be around 116.6 MT. According to Agricultural and processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) India's exports of fruits, vegetables, cereals and processed food products was worth US$ 1.14billion during April May 2010-11. Middle East, Asia, Africa, and South America are developing countries in which 70 percent of the India's agriculture and processed food is being exported. This data makes it absolutely clear that Indian Economy is largely governed by the Industry, which is still largely dependent on the uncertainties of rainfall and other natural forces. We have a social responsibility to support the agricultural industry in every possible manner.
