Honestly, I feel like one of the only Starfield fans out there. There's so little talk about how good the game actually is, because everyone seemed to expect it to be like... "Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen but good" without realizing that those games are *bad* because of their fundamental basis in, well. Nothing. See, Elite was always a game with promise, but it has some of the most worthless head developers in the industry. Designed like an F2P MMO with a quarter of the content, around an exceptional flight model based in the most uselessly large 1:1 scale galaxy I have ever seen. Scale is useless if you cannot use it. (Starfield suffers immensely from this too, by the way.) But Star Citizen is also another promiser with no real delivery at all.
The game is driven by ship sales and almost half the game is still in development, and it's been well over ten years now. They promised 100 star systems but have only delivered on what, Stanton and Pyro? Again, Starfield suffers from this too. Can't lie. But you know what Starfield has that neither of them have? A story. Characters. Voice work. Cultures to explore and experience, even if they ARE small. ACTUAL worldbuilding beyond ship based combat. Fully traversable ship interiors and exteriors without exception. If you hate Starfield beause it isn't "Well realized or big enough of a space system" you both don't understand the intent of the game nor do you understand what it *does* have. Yes, there's stock repeatable dungeons everywhere, yes, they do get old. Yes, perhaps there is simply too much open "junk space" - but, like. Ultimately? It does deliver on just about every promise both Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen made. "Oh but it's not seamless!" You don't want that. Trust me. In Elite and SC, you only travel to POIs. It's true. The scale is too large in either game to even consider doing anything else. You really do just fly from one identical point to another in those games. I guess maybe not SC, but SC's locations are, frankly, single player RPG sized theme parks. At best. ED: Frontiers didn't add anything meaningful to the game, despite adding space legs. It's not a fulfilling SP or MP experience. Its shooting mechanics suck. Its other mechanics are, frankly, useless - if interesting. It's just not built for that.
Admittedly, in a lot of ways? Starfield feels like a Single Player Star Wars Galaxies, to me. Fully traversable ships, decently large on-foot areas to explore, POIs to travel to, and fully realized stories and characters, with just about as good worldbuilding and realization. Perhaps that's why Starfield appeals to me so much. Because it scratches an itch that SWG did, but E:D and SC completely and utterly failed to. I'll give E:D this. It might be the greatest space sim to play if you work an office 9-5 or are unemployed. I'm saying it's great if you have nothing but free time, basically. If you don't, it's pretty awful and does not respect your time. "Starfield has so many loading screens!" one may say. Yeah, it does. so do ED and SC. But they hide them behind entering and exiting FTL jumps. Does that FEEL like a loading screen? No, not to the uninitiated. But once you're in there, the waits become kind of agonizing and obvious. It's like Mass Effect's elevators. The Loading Screens are still there, but you have the illusion removed. Could Starfield benefit from immersive loading screens? Yeah, honestly it could. I mean, Star Wars: Outlaws coming out next month is doing it. And your average plebeian gamer doesn't realize that's what it is - a loading screen between instances and POIs. If Starfield added that, it'd do them a lot of good. Though, sadly it would also run in the face of their lovely photo-mode-pics-are-loading-screens function, which I adore. But for the health of the game, I am willing to eschew that. Heartbreakingly. If Starfield added that, it'd do them a lot of good. Though, sadly it would also run in the face of their lovely photo-mode-pics-are-loading-screens function, which I adore. But for the health of the game, I am willing to eschew that. Heartbreakingly.
#KCDodger#KCDodger Talks#gaming#Starfield#Bethesda Game Studios#Starfield is seriously the GOAT of space games#and you really cannot convince me otherwise.#Yes#I know that#No Man's Sky#exists.#I do not have much experience with it#nor do I believe it is honestly in the same category of game.#But that could just be my limited experience.

Top 20 best selling video games in the UK in 2023
Within the UK final 12 months, a complete of greater than 37 million video video games had been bought throughout console and PC platforms. General, this can be a rise of simply over 2.5%, when put next with figures from 2022.Regardless of the considerably controversial rebranding and a few stiff competitors this 12 months, EA Sports activities FC 24 ended the 12 months because the top-selling online game title within the UK. Despite the fact that gross sales on this 12 months’s footy sequence had been down in comparison with current years, it nonetheless remained the number-one vendor within the nation. The No.2 spot got here within the type of the Harry Potter-inspired motion role-playing recreation, Hogwarts Legacy. Warner Bros. Video games continued on from the success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – which was the third highest-grossing recreation within the UK in 2022 – by simply taking the No.2 place in 2023 with Hogwarts Legacy. If that wasn’t adequate, the Wizardly World journey additionally ended the 12 months because the No.1 top-selling title when it got here to bodily gross sales. It's price mentioning that this feat was vastly aided by a number of launch dates all year long on each final and present gen platforms. Regardless of main criticism and the bottom acclaim and gross sales in years, it's no shock that Name of Obligation: Modern Warfare 3 got here in at No.3. Now critiqued as little greater than a glorified enlargement, with a sub-par foremost story to match, it isn't surprising to see this 12 months’s entry within the Name of Obligation franchise drop by virtually 40% by way of gross sales, when put next with Trendy Warfare 2 from the earlier 12 months. All three video games additionally obtained an extra enhance from the advantage of having advertising partnerships with Sony. So, it comes as no actual shock that round half of all gross sales for every of those three titles got here from the PS4 and PS5 platforms. Whatever the success of each EA Sports activities FC 24 and Hogwarts Legacy, general 2023 wasn’t one of the best 12 months for brand spanking new mental properties. Starfield ended 2023 because the next-best new IP, however it might solely attain a disappointing No.31 within the charts by the tip of the 12 months. In terms of the highest-selling new IP of 2022, Elden Ring, which reached No.4. within the charts for that 12 months, 2023 noticed the FromSoftware developed title end in a good No.28 place. Disney additionally loved one other good 12 months, with PlayStation the unique Spider-Man 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor each ending 2023 within the high 10. It was a considerably quiet 12 months for Nintendo in comparison with earlier years. Nevertheless, be that as it could, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ended the 12 months within the No.9 place, with Super Mario Bros Marvel simply behind at No.11. Among the different best-selling new releases to make it into the highest 20 for 2023 had been, Murderer’s Creed Mirage at No.14 and the Resident Evil 4 remake at No.15. Among the finest yearly- recurring new releases had been NBA 2K23 at No.16, WWE 2K23 at No.18, and F1 23 at No.19. Just a few different notable titles to make it into the charts price additionally mentioning are Useless Island 2 at No.25, Useless House Remake at No.29, Mortal Kombat 1 at No.30, and Ultimate Fantasy 16 at No.32. EA Sports activities UFC 5 got here in at No.47, whereas Avatar Frontiers of Pandora completed the 12 months at No.54, and Avenue Fighter 6 got here in simply behind atNo.56. You will have seen just a few video games lacking from this checklist, with one main recreation specifically being absent (Baldur’s Gate 3). That is just because video games for sure publishers don’t seem on the GSD knowledge lists. It can't be denied that Baldur’s Gate 3 was one of many greatest video games of the 12 months, successful numerous awards and even redefining the trade to a sure extent. It was one other large 12 months for console gross sales within the UK. General, virtually 2.4 million complete consoles had been bought within the UK for 2023, which is a rise of greater than 9% in contrast with the earlier 12 months. The PlayStation 5 was the most important purpose for this by far. In comparison with 2022, gross sales of the PS5 elevated by greater than 55%, making it the most important and finest 12 months for a PlayStation console in virtually a decade. The Nintendo Change ended 2023 because the second-best console, regardless that gross sales proceed to be down 12 months over 12 months. Having stated that, it's now greater than seven years that the Nintendo Change has been in the marketplace, so a continuing lower in gross sales isn’t stunning. The story is analogous with each the Xbox Sequence S and X consoles, with gross sales additionally dropping in 2023 in comparison with the 12 months earlier than. Lastly, by way of accent gross sales, simply over 9 million gadgets had been bought all through UK retailers in 2023. That is additionally a slight lower of simply over 4% when set facet by facet with gross sales figures from 2022. 1. EA Sports activities FC 24 2. Hogwarts Legacy 3. Name of Obligation: Trendy Warfare 3 4. FIFA 23 5. Grand Theft Auto 5 6. Spider-Man 2 7. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor 8. Pink Useless Redemption 2 9. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom* 10. Diablo 4 11. Super Mario Bros Marvel* 12. Name of Obligation: Modern Warfare 2 13. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe* 14. Murderer’s Creed Mirage 15. Resident Evil 4 Remake 16. NBA 2K23 17. any games you're interested in thisyear?
Actually quite a lot, which is different than most years. In no particular order:
2023 Confirmed
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2. I liked the original. It was simple but fun. I'm hoping they have evolved the formula a bit from that point.
Darkest Dungeon 2. I have a lot of issues with the game changing directions into an FTL-ish game. But it could be good, regardless of my feelings on the genre shift.
Starfield. Bethesda is still on my radar but they're no longer a "Must buy" company after Fallout 4 and Fallout76. The fact that they're STILL using the CreationEngine gives me worry, but I'm still waiting to see how it turns out.
Hogwarts Legacy. It's a immersive RPG with character customization. That's going to always catch my attention.
Redfall. Arcane disappointed me with Deathloop but they still have good will from Prey. If they can break the core "Xshock" gameplay they've reused for nearly all their games, I'll be interested.
Book of Hours. I really enjoyed the mythology set up in Cultist Simulator and I'm interested in any game that further explores it.
Suicide Squad. Rocksteady is a solid studio and I liked the Arkham Games, even Knight. So I'm willing to give them a shot in this.
Atomic Heart. New studio attempting the Xshock formula, so I'll be watching to see how it turns out. But I've heard this was a troubled production, so I dunno how it'll be as a final product.
Like a Dragon: Ishin. I'm a sucker for the Yakuza franchise.
System Shock. After so long, I'm just interested in how it'll be when it finally comes out.
Baldur's Gate 3. Someone gifted it to me back when it started Early Access, but I haven't tried it because I don't want to be spoiled. I've just toyed around with the character creation. Larian Studios is a studio I still have a lot of trust in.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. I have not seen either Avatar film. But from the start it seems like Cameron want to build a world and only crafted a story as an excuse. He should've just made a game like this instead to begin with.
Announced but TBD (so may not be in 2023)
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days. Looks like This War of Mine but with zombies and a 1980's aesthetic.
Warhammer 40k: Roguetrader. Made by Owlcat and I liked their two Pathfinder games. A Warhammer CRPG? Sounds fun!
Hellboy: Web of the Wyrd. I love Hellboy. I just hope the game itself is good.
Frostpunk 2. I liked the original, will see what they do with the sequel.
Silksong. I only recently played Hollow Knight, but I enjoyed the experience enough to look forward to this.
Avowed. I really, really liked Deadfire and this game is set in the PoE world. The 'eh' feeling I got from Outer Worlds puts a damper on things, but I hope that maybe by returning to the PoE universe, there might be a return to form. Also, immersive RPG with character customization, so...
Hades 2. I LOVED Hades. More of it is going to appeal to me.
Judas. The creator of Bioshock comes back to make a brand new Xshock game? I wanna see if he innovates the formula he helped popularize or not.
Nightengale. I'm not huge into the 'survivor crafting' game but the aesthetics interest me.
Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty. Okay, not a game, but DLC. Cyberpunk hurt me, but I'm really, really hoping that this DLC is being made by CDPR with the idea that they need to step up their game.

With Avatar 2 finally on the horizon (scheduled to hit movie theaters Dec. It feels incredibly risky to imply that a new entry in James Cameron’s Avatar saga will release on time, but publisher Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment ( Tom Clancy’s The Division) still have Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on their schedule for 2022. 13, 2022 in early access, with a full release expected later this year. Developed by Stray Bombay (ex-Valve developer Chet Faliszek’s new studio), The Anacrusis will be available Jan. In a year already stuffed with Left 4 Dead-likes, how does The Anacrusis stand out? Well, it’s set on a funky retro-futuristic space cruiser, it features fantastical sci-fi weapons like a laser rifle and time-stopping grenades, it has a very weird collection of angry aliens, and it will launch in early access on Steam and Xbox Series X so its player base can help shape its development. But as of now, here are the 50 games (listed alphabetically) that point to a brighter year. There are many games coming in 2022 that have yet to be announced, or that have not been given a release window. There are also smaller but still exciting games, like Somerville and Cursed to Golf, to watch out for. In fact, many of the games on Polygon’s 2022 most-anticipated games list were delayed from 2021 - and games like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, which appeared on last year’s list, aren’t on this year’s list due to even more extensive delays. The 2022 calendar is already jam-packed with big, blockbuster, triple-A game releases, including long-awaited titles like God of War Ragnarok, Starfield, Bayonetta 3, and the aforementioned Elden Ring. There were a few surprises along the way, including Inscryption and another journey in the strange solar system of Outer Wilds. While there were many, many delays - it was a year without an Elden Ring or a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - we took comfort in colorful stories like Chicory and Psychonauts 2, and enjoyed the spooks and scares of Resident Evil Village and Metroid Dread. While 2021 was another rough year for just about everything and everyone, many of us found refuge in games. It certainly wasn’t easy, but some of 2021’s best games helped us get through another 365 days of ups and downs. If you’re reading this, congratulations: You made it to 2022.

Xbox | 2022 Showcase: My Thoughts
It feels weird to open with a bunch've trailers for games that...I mean...these are pretty "meh" right??
This has me missing E3 a LOT right now. Sure the expo had its flaws, but it brought everything together under one jam packed roof. This past week has felt so disjointed. I'm playing catch up on stuff rather than experiencing it in real time.
HALO IN FLIGHT SIMULATOR?? That's cool.
Seeing Blizzard pop up doesn't tingle the same as it used to...
Can anyone gimme a solid reason why I should get GamePass? I don't like the idea of "the Netflix of games". I want to own a game and play it whenever.
God trailer music is so emotional now. Or maybe It's just been a traumatizing couple of years haha...ha...heh...ugh
ESO is the game I own, love and wish I could put more time into.
Dude! FUUUUCK! SCORN....HOLY WHATblgubeegegchg...geez. I am so hyped for that game. I want to be so disgusted and feel so uneasy the whole time I play. I want to feel like booting up is something I have to hide, like "I hope no one walks in and wonders what the heck I'm doing" kinda vibe.
Flintlock looks so generically boring.
I love that Mojang created this amazing gaming universe, and are only making side games/stories within it. Like, it's their own metaverse.
Lightyear Frontier looks like Starfield looks like No Man's Sky.
It's so funny when completely new/unknown games do their trailer thing, it ends with like the title or something...then *DUNNN* INTRODUCING THIS THING NO ONE KNOWS...as if we're supposed to be blown away by it hahaha.
Grounded is also such a rad idea! They should make something like that easily accessible to kids. Imagine it - when I got home from school I'd watching cartoons/power rangers and spend the evening talking about it with friends. Kids could jump into a virtual world and go on massive adventures!
So strange to just jump right into such a big title like D4. Something that would've been so big on-stage.
Yo wait WHAT!...open world Diablo?? I mean, it was but like bases to take over? Towns to build? Love this update, so needed! I love the franchise but it always had a moment of "this again" about 75% of the way through.
You couldn't save shit to your ship in Sea of Thieves until now?? I thought that was the whole point of the game??
I will ALWAYS hate JRPG trailers. The timing for everything is always so off!
Yaaaa I heard Kojima was joining up for an exclusive! That's so rad! About time!
Starfield is what I'm here for. I'm sure everyone was/is.
...kay this DOES look SO MUCH like No Man's Sky. But c'mon, that game introduced an entirely new way to game, and then dropped the ball HARD. Of course some studio was going to jump at the opportunity to pickup the ball and run with it.
Yooo Starfield is MS products only? Why did I think it'd be on Playstation as well. Damn...sorry dudes. That game looks like my next "big one" (but Cyberpunk was my LAST "big one"...and No Man's Sky was before that...uh oh).
That was super fun, some great shit to see. But overall it was liiiiiike 4/10 to experience. Cool, shiny, but nothing that I wasn't expecting.

E3 2021 Conference: Schedule, Dates, Games, and News
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The biggest week on the gaming calendar is back! E3 has returned after last year’s trade show was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Things are a little different for E3 2021, which won’t have a show floor at the Los Angeles Convention Center like in past years. Instead, the convention will take place completely online as an all-virtual event featuring a whole list of live streams hosted by the industry’s biggest publishers and studios, including Microsoft, Bethesda, Nintendo, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, and Take-Two Interactive. (Sony PlayStation is once again skipping this year’s event.)
E3 2021 will be held from Saturday, June 11 to Tuesday, June 15. The four-day event will be hosted by Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, Jacki Jing and Greg Miller, and will also feature industry panel discussions as well as celebrity appearances. You can check out a list of E3 panels here.

E3 2021 Live Stream and How to Watch
Want to catch all of the big announcements, reveals, and trailers? You can watch all of the E3 events here:
E3 2021 Leaks
Not all surprises can stay a secret ahead of E3. In fact, leaks are one of E3’s oldest traditions, and 2021 hasn’t disappointed. Ahead of the show, we’ve already learned about a few things that are either going to be announced at the show or at a later date.
The biggest leak of all is the Nintendo Switch Pro, of course. It’s the long-rumored hardware upgrade for Nintendo’s beloved home-and-handheld console hybrid. According to reports, the Switch Pro will allegedly post a 4K-ready OLED screen from Samsung as well as a new graphics chip. While Nintendo has yet to officially confirm that such an upgrade exists, Bloomberg suggests that the console could ship as soon as July, with a planned launch date in September. If the reports are true, that means Nintendo will need to make an announcement VERY soon. Like at its E3 conference on Tuesday…
A new Final Fantasy game from Team Ninja is also said to be in development! It’s called Final Fantasy Origin and it’s reportedly an Action RPG take on the series set in the same timeline as the original Final Fantasy for NES. And that’s not all Square Enix is allegedly bringing to the table. The publisher could also be about to announce the new Guardians of the Galaxy game Eidos Montreal has been quietly working on for the past few years.
Meanwhile, a report from VGC claims that Activision doesn’t plan to announce this year’s installment of Call of Duty. Instead, the publisher will unveil the game as its own special event. Unfortunately, the game may have already leaked. It’s called Call of Duty: Vanguard and is set in World War II!
Read more E3 2021 leaks here.
E3 2021 Predictions
If it’s predictions and wild speculation you want, we have a few theories as to what fans should expect at E3 2021. Just to name a few:
We predict Starfield will be a major part of the Xbox/Bethesda conference on Sunday. We’ll not only get a new trailer (possibly with some gameplay) but also confirmation that the new space RPG from Bethesda Game Studios is an Xbox Series X/S exclusive launching on Xbox Game Pass on Day 1. PlayStation fans, prepare yourselves.
Speaking of Xbox, E3 2021 will Halo Infinite‘s big chance to redeem itself after a subpar showing at an Xbox event last year. And we think 343 Industries is going to pull it off, showing us a graphically stunning gameplay trailer that looks much closer to how a next-gen Halo title should look. They’ll show multiplayer mode, too!
What else will we see? BioShock 4, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and more! (We won’t get Metroid Prime 4 or Half-Life 3, though).
Check out all our E3 2021 predictions here.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more!
