Abigail (Frank) - this one i just now planned out thanks to jen BUT me thinks i’m joey’s cousin or friend who comes along to the heist for moral support since i had no beef or business with abigail or his business so i fr was just an outsider with no connection. idk what my made up name would be (ofc maybe ‘Bunny’ or ‘Rabbit’ i don’t know), but obviously me and frank form a kinda weird bond since he’s an asshole but understands i shouldnt of been there to begin with. (I have more but it delves into spoiler territory so ill prob do a seperate post for that!)

Godzilla x Kong (Trapper) - my s/i is alreasy pre established in the monsterverse (been there since godzilla 2014 :3) so i’ve already got that kaiju experience plentyfold! I’m a kaiju researcher mainlu delving into how they function and i love to sketch and observe them.. i work at the monarch base that ilene and trapper work at which is how i meet him >_< !! both of us being big kaiju lovers since he’s kong’s veternarian and i love love to doodle kaijus hehehehe

Night at the Museum (Lancelot) - just like my monsterverse s/i i think i’m also present for the first two movies :) starting off as somebody who just goes to the museum to relax and sketch then becoming a guide myself! A while after the second movie ends i end up getting transferred to the london museum seen in 3 and find myself relaxing the most in the exhibit Lancelot resides.. (yall getting lisa frankenstein vibes from this- 💥) anywayss once larry and the crew arrive and the london museum comes to life SO DOES LANCELOT AND OUR MEETCUTE BEGINS. The visual I have in mind @ me securing the tablet and he has to snatch me up and takes me + the tablet away on his horse… GET ME OUT!!!!!!!

The Guest (David) - ok you can see now i’m in too deep fr anywayss obviously david survives the first movie and i imagine is back on his bs @ pretending to be somebody he isn’t. like i imagine i come home from work to see him on my porch and him explaining he was waiting for me since he heard i knew the petersons and came to break the news that they died since he was a “family friend”. and obviously since i’m not smart i’d have him stay with me since he’d still be limping/have wounds from what happened (he’d claim it’s cuz he tried to fight back who killed them) so i fix him up and have him stay with me.. ★  ⸻     WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO MAKE THIS MUSE?: I have always loved Charlies Angels (the 2000 movie and its sequel, although I do love the original show as well!) and I adored Eric Knox and his reveal and his vibe and ugh...and then when Birds of Prey came out, watching Roman Sionis do his thing just brought back that sort of style of character into the forefront of my mind. I wanted to make a villain oc that had his own niche m.o. and this sort of flamboyant narcissism about him. He’s a peacock strutting around, pecking out eyes as he sees fit. I should also mention the film Kiss The Girls as another big inspiration for Lawrence, a lot of his mannerisms and motives based off the pathology of the Casanova killer— the obsession, the stalking, the entitlement, the seamless transition between seemingly mild-mannered person to nefarious killer. 

★  ⸻     WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE?: He's such a dickhead. I love his tantrums and the internal struggle he always has between keeping composed and rigidly in control of himself and letting himself loose and be taken over by this fiery, all-consuming anger he has within him. 

★  ⸻     WHO’S YOUR CURRENT FC: Sam Rockwell, both as Eric Knox in Charlies Angels and Justin Hammer in the Iron Man franchise.

★  ⸻     WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING?: I just write things that I think are fun or funny, mainly tropes from other films and shows that personally made me go :D or :O. For Lawrence specifically, I have to admit that I’m almost always sort of ready to write Lawrence. He’s one of the few muses on my roster that I can write easily at any time, like he flows incredibly well and I think it mainly has to do with the fact that writing him is like dissecting him a little, like a little profiler writing his crimes and guessing what will come next. (If that makes sense!)

★  ⸻     FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS?: Overall, I enjoy domestic stories and funny threads; everyday stories and silly adventures with friends or meet cutes! I like all that, and a lot of times I can even incorporate frightening or crime based plots to it because I feel like....even scary, bad people or supernatural monsters have silly moments. (In my verses they do at least! I’m always clowning on them!!!) Like nothing makes me :3 quicker than idiots being idiots, lovers being cute, killers fucking up and being stupid as all hell, stoic characters tripping and falling flat on their face, etc. etc.

2023 Northeast Comic Con Spring Edition Wrap-Up

Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to cover the Northeast Comic Con (read my coverage here), a fun cool convention for lovers of comics, pop culture, and collectibles. Last Summer, I attended their 2022 Collectibles Extravaganza and it was my first convention since 2019. Felt good to be back!

Here is my lightning round of guests I got to speak with at this year’s con:

Roger Kabler is a funny comedian and in the last few years he has been doing the Robin Williams Experience, where he does his excellent Robin Williams impression. I spoke with him last Summer and he had just finished making an independent film Being Robin about his experience of returning to comedy after Robin Williams died. His film is doing some screenings and it’s worth checking out. See details here.

Cowboy Mach Bell is another celebrity I spoke with last Summer. He was the singer for the Joe Perry Project from 1982-1984 among many other bands and he has written some books about his experiences as well. Since last time I saw him, he has suffered some health issues, but I’m happy to say he’s back singing and his new band Mach Bell Experience are playing Geno’s Rock Club in Portland, ME this Sat. 3/18.

Melanie Chartoff is someone who has popped up in all corners of pop culture: acting, voiceover, author, coach, theater, TV, and film. I was a big fan as a teen of TV’s Parker Lewis Can’t Lose and she was so good as Principal Musso. A decade earlier she was a cast member on the sketch show Fridays along with Larry David, Michael Richards and more. But probably the funniest thing she did IMHO was the episodes of Seinfeld as Robin, George’s single-mom girlfriend. In “The Fire” episode, George attends the birthday for Robin’s son and upon the fear of a fire, he pushes everyone out of his way. I asked Melanie how she managed to keep a straight face in that episode and she replied “well, you know, I’m an actress, right?”. Well put! Robin later returned for the finale when Jerry and his friends were on trial.

Charlie Schlatter has been a highly prolific actor and voiceover since the 80s. I first became aware of him when he was the lead in 1988′s 18 Again, where he and his grandfather (played by George Burns) switch brains. It was actually one of my favorite brain-switcher movies of that era. I asked Charlie about making that film and he said “working with George Burns, to this day (I’m an old man now), but it was one of the best experiences of my life. He was the most generous and gracious human being you can imagine. It was like working with my true Grandfather everyday.” In 1990, Schlatter played the title character in the TV adaptation of Ferris Bueller. I told him I was a big fan of that TV show (it lasted 13 episodes) and he said “You were the one?” [laughs]. I was a big fan of the John Hughes movies Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which was showing the character on a day off, but it was cool to have a TV series that showed what the character was like in school on a typical day. He was very appreciative I enjoyed that show.

I first met Samantha Mathis at the 2015 Rock and Shock festival. She and I have a mutual friend in common and I reminded her at the Northeast Comic Con. In 2020, when I tweeted about the anniversary of Pump Up the Volume, which she starred in, she liked it on Twitter! She has appeared in tons of gems including that great episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where she sat next to Larry on the plan. This time I saw Ms. Mathis, I was excited to talk to her about working with John Woo on his 1996 film Broken Arrow. I mentioned that I actually made a film To Be John Woo (a tribute and parody of John Woo films). She was congratulatory when I told her Mr. Woo sent me a Christmas card the following year after he saw it! On working with Mr. Woo, she said “I was in awe of being in John Woo’s presence. It’s no secret that Quentin Tarantino heavily lifted from John Woo in the beginning of his career. So, I was just in awe of watching how he shot things. There was a sequence where he must’ve set up ten different cameras at different angles. I had just never seen someone use the camera that way before.” That movie was one of Woo’s early Hollywood movies and there’s some phenomenal action sequences in it.  

This convention is always a fun time! Big thanks to Gary Sohmers and his team as well as my friend comedian Ken Reid of the TV Guidance Counselor podcast (I was a guest in 2015) who hosted several panels at this year’s fest.

While being held captive aboard the pirate ship Revenge, the boy meets a fisherman named Louis. Tasked by the captain to teach the reluctant boy to fish, Louis struggles to hide his frustration and hold his tongue. As difficult as it was to deal with this clumsy stranger, the skilled fisherman had worse assignments and more unpleasant partners, but none of them with a smile as bright as this peculiar boy had. A moment of unexpected distress catches them off guard, and both soon find out it’s much easier to catch feelings than fish.

M*A*S*H Seasons 4-7; the actors change but the types (and The War) remains the same

After three years of filming Mash, two of the actors decided they could leave and be bigger stars elsewhere. They did not succeed. Trapper John and Henry Blake were written out of the show, Blake in an extremely cruel way*, and Trapper is sent home (off camera) while Hawkeye is away. Blake is replaced by Harry Morgan's (of DRAGNET and other shows) Sherman Potter (middle row) while Trapper is replaced by Mike Farrell's BJ Hunnicutt (top row). They are both the same types as their predecessors; Potter the lenient camp leader and BJ, a goofball surgeon friend to Hawkeye, although a much more laidback second banana than Trapper. So the comedy moves forward with equilibrium maintained.

After the fourth season's shenanigans, Potter grows wise to Frank Burns' true character and dismisses him with even more disdain than Blake did. The beginning of season five sees an ongoing storyline for Major Margaret Houlihan; she will announce she is engaged, and not to her Mash camp lover Frank Burns, but to a soldier she talks endlessly about in both happiness and distress for the next two years, Lieutenant Donald Ponobscott. The show turns Frank into a heel, here. In season five he is not only the worst character, he is a bad surgeon, and because he is romantically rebuffed by Margaret, he only has jingoistic patriotism and rule following as his characteristics. Margaret gets married at the end of season 5, which causes a mental breakdown for Frank Burns who exits the show (off camera) at the start of season six. Larry Linville felt he couldnt do any more with the character of Frank Burns, and so he decided to quit the show. Frank Burns' exit makes room for the arrival of the next surgeon, Charles Emerson Winchester III (bottom row). With this character swap, the antagonist of jingoism, patriotism, and love for the army is replaced with upper class breeding. Its something new, but it also continues the slow defanging of the show's original satire. Charles Winchester is an excellent surgeon, but hes also a snob. This is his main conflict with Hawkeye and BJ.

Long suffering company clerk Radar O'Reilley leaves the show at the start of season 8; including the movie Gary Burgoff has been playing this character for ten years. He at least gets a happy exit. Klinger will drop his cross dressing antics (mostly) to replace Radar as company clerk. He becomes a sort of fawning faux arab errand boy (leaning on the character's Lebanese heritage), and so another character is defanged.

Next up, seasons 8-11; the Reagan Years! * The first Mash commander, Henry Blake is discharged from the army with a long scene of him saying goodbye to the assembled troops in a civilian suit next to a helicopter at the end of season three, except they add one last scene later in the operating room, where a shocked Radar comes in and announces that Blake's plane was shot down over the ocean. Legend is the characters did not get to read this page of the script before filming, so their silent reactions were an actual surprise. Also, it was the actor's idea to get written off this way!

I decided I need a tv challenge. Im going to watch M*A*S*H eleven years, 24 episodes a season. MASH
