Baby Washington - Breakfast In Bed (1969)
Dusty Springfield may have recorded it first, but Baby Washington's version may be just as good. Recorded at Muscle Shoals.

🎵 Instrument of Surrender
2. "I let her go. She didn't do anything."
TOMMY LE HOMME - "Whooh... good on her. And good on *you* too, my man. That's..." He looks for the words...
+5 XP
"*Merciful*. Downright merciful -- you cops keep exercising *that* muscle and people will be more willing to cooperate, you know."
EMPATHY [Easy: Success] - He's clearly relieved.
KIM KITSURAGI - "All right. That's enough sharing details about the investigation for one day."
-1 Reputation
The scabs are gone, and the gate is closed.
🎵 Martinaise, Terminal B
CALL ME MAÑANA - The boiadeiro stares at you with respect -- then gestures towards the trickles of blood adorning your clothes.
"Danger comes with the boiadeiro lifestyle, right?
"Yeah, I got shot. No big deal."
"It really hurts, Mañana. Pain -- that's what your strike brought upon us."
CALL ME MAÑANA - He shrugs. "There are types of danger. The one I'm usually concerned with is lung cancer, or getting mauled by wildlife. Not... bullets."
"It calls back to an older era, where this was commonplace, though. You have a true boiadeiro heart."
"Right. So where is everyone?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "Hidin', gatherin' themselves. The harbour's in full lockdown, friend. No getting in or out... for the time being."
"You can't help me get inside?"'
"What's going to happen next?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "No, man. Not today. Today is war."
RHETORIC [Easy: Success] - He says it matter-of-factly. Like it's no big deal.
"What's going to happen next?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "Time will tell..." He shrugs. "I'll tell Evrart you dropped by. I'm sure he'll be glad." He gives you a small wink.
"What will *you* be doing now?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "I'll be okay here, doing lookout." He surveys the red flags, draped from the harbour gates. "Quite the sight, aren't they? Getting to like that red, I am..."
"Don't worry about me. I live to alleviate the worries of our brothers. See if any other insane killers turn up. Then I'll run. And live."
"I'm sure you'll do good."
"Try not to get shot, eh?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "I'm sure I'll be luckier than you, friend." His grin is as wide as a desert.
+5 XP
No way back into the harbour. Even Measurehead is gone.
SHIMMERING WALL OF VICES - A colourful display of cigarettes and alcohol bottles lines the shop wall, inviting you closer.
FRITTTE CLERK - "Again, I'm obliged to inform you that both alcohol and cigarettes damage your health."
4. "Give me Astra cigarettes."
FRITTTE CLERK - "Here you go, mister."
SMOKES "ASTRA"
+1 Intellect -1 Health Uses left: 3
These Graad-made cigarettes are remarkable for their high tar content. A favourite of fishermen, police officers and working men the world over.
We didn't get these to smoke, though.
I discovered that Cuno has something else to say to us.
🎵 Instrument of Surrender
CUNO - "Cuno saw you wield that can," he says with an approving nod. "Sweet graffito action, pig. Cuno likes that delinquent shit."
"Yeah? You like art, Cuno?"
"Poppa's bad to the bone, Cuno. Rotten to the core."
"Thank you, Cuno. I really appreciate it."
CUNO - "Fuck no! Art's shit." He takes a step back.
"Oh yeah? What about your little Locust City then?"
(Write in an imaginary notebook.) "Got it: *Art's… shit…."
"Easy, Cuno... I just had a couple of questions."
CUNO - "It's not art, it's fucking brutal. Nothing pussy about it! The fuck out of here!"
+5 XP
CUNOESSE - "Even the pigs think it's garbage!"
CUNO - "Look bitches, Cuno's gonna wrap it up for you." He pushes his chin out. "Talk business or fuck off. Enough 'bout this art shit."
We don't have anything else to say to Cuno, so that ends our little jaunt around Martinaise.
🎵 Live With Me
ONE DAY I WILL RETURN TO YOUR SIDE - The graffito has been painted over the traces of the fight that took place here. It smells of blood and heavy fuel oil.
REACTION SPEED [Easy: Success] - This was Cindy the SKULL.
3. "Step back, lieutenant." (Set the graffito on fire with a lit cigarette.)
Task complete: Light the graffito on fire with a burning cigarette
+10 XP
ONE DAY I WILL RETURN TO YOUR SIDE - The fuel oil catches fire immediately, with a low hiss -- a bright orange flash across the surface of the lettering. Rain turns to vapour above the burning message, mingling with the black smoke.
INLAND EMPIRE [Challenging: Success] - What if the words are not directed at the people of Martinaise, or even the Coalition aerostatics above the city -- they're meant for something above even those...
"DISCO ELYSIUM."
"YOU'VE BEEN POLICED, MARTINAISE."
"GOD. I'M ON MY WAY."
Say nothing. Stare grimly into the flames.
KIM KITSURAGI - The lieutenant has taken a small step back. He looks at your face illuminated by the flames and nods silently. Then the fire falters...
+1 Reputation
EMPATHY [Easy: Success] - The flames warmed him too. Not at all in a bad way.
KIM KITSURAGI - "Let's go to that island."
ONE DAY I WILL RETURN TO YOUR SIDE - Slowly the flames subside, the fuel burning out. The air still smells of mazut -- and springtime.
GASTON MARTIN - "*Mon dieu*, you set it on fire!" He looks at the plaza. "What kind of a policeman are you?"
