summary: Catalina starts college in a small town all the way across the country. She doesn’t know anyone and isn’t exactly looking for friends. She just wants to focus on dance. But when she meets fellow dance major, Jimin, and adventurous, fellow freshman, Jungkook, Catalina ends up discovering a whole new side to the small college town; one that is dangerous but oh so enticing…

The warm weather was fleeting; Catalina spent her days studying, working, and every chance she got, hanging out with her friends. The “baseball encounter”, as she’s been calling it, has been living in the back of her mind ever since, even though it seemed her friends had forgotten about it. She never brought it up, just focusing on her college life. Namjoon took her out to fancy bookstores and coffee shops, Jungkook tried and failed to teach her how to skateboard, and Jin tried and failed to help them in French. She was kept busy and she was having fun.

All was peaceful, until a college student was reported missing in St. Briggs. Jimin cornered Catalina in dance class about it one chilly, early winter day.

They were practicing their dance to “Body”, by Megan Thee Stallion.

“One, two, three, turn, five, six, step and hit,” the teacher called out. “One, two, ba, ba, jump, Steve! What song are you dancing to, ‘cause it’s not this! Find the goddamn beat! Alright, everyone except Steve, take five.”

Catalina’s final move in the dance was on the ground, so instead of getting up, she crawled over to her dance bag and pulled out her water bottle, collapsing against the wall. Jimin joined her and said, “Have you heard the news?”

Catalina shook her head between sips.

“A student went missing,” he said. “In St. Briggs. From our college.”

“Aren’t they the second person to go missing here?” Catalina asked. “I don’t like the sound of that.”

“Yeah, me neither,” said Jimin. “The first person was a little kid. My parents are freaking out about me walking to campus now.”

“And the police have no idea who the guy is?” asked Catalina. “I mean, they don’t know anything?”

“Not really,” said Jimin. “It’s like these people disappeared without a trace.”

“Hm,” Catalina thought about the disappearances and the mysterious “baseball encounter”. She wondered if they were connected. “You wanna do some investigating?”

“What are you-no, we’re not visiting those vampires,” said Jimin. “That’s a really bad idea. Namjoon told us to stay out of it and he definitely knows more about this stuff than we do.”

Catalina knew she wouldn’t get anywhere with Jimin. She would just have to wait until she saw Jungkook to bring it up again. She knew he’d have no qualms about going on a potentially life-threatening mission.

Her chance came that weekend when she and Jungkook worked their shift together at the souvenir shop. Business was starting to pick up since the first snow was expected to arrive any day now.

Tourists started stopping by more and more and Catalina got to see what Jungkook meant by “hot tourists”. The men and the women were beautiful, and her and Jungkook both had fun checking them out from behind the counter. But today was slow, so Catalina figured she’d take the opportunity to tell him about her plan.

“Jungkook, what do you think about stealing that business card and sneaking around a potential lair?” asked Catalina.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about, but yes. I’m in,” he said. The two of them were straightening the ceramic bear and eagle figurines, killing time between customers.

“Remember those three vampires on baseball day?”

“Uh-huh.”

“The guy gave Namjoon a business card,” said Catalina.

“Oh right! Yeah, I remember,” said Jungkook.

“I was thinking maybe we could steal it and do our own investigating. I mean, what if those guys have something to do with the missing people?” Catalina said. Jungkook looked up at her with wide eyes.

“Oh shit! Ya know, you’re probably right!” he said. “They just moved here, and then all of a sudden, a kid goes missing in this town. It makes sense.”

“Exactly,” said Catalina.

“But how will we get the business card?” asked Jungkook. “Do we sneak into his room or his office or whatever?”

“That’s what I was thinking. One of us distracts him, while the other sneaks in and finds it,” said Catalina.

“I feel like you should distract him. A classic honey pot mission,” said Jungkook.

“Do you know what that means?” Catalina asked, snickering.

“Don’t you seduce someone to complete a mission?” asked Jungkook.

“You usually have to fuck someone in a honey pot mission,” said Catalina.

“Oh, well, how bad can it be? I mean, he’s hot as fuck,” he said with a wave of his hand. Catalina’s face turned bright red.

“I’m not- we’re…” she sighed. “Jungkook, casual sex isn’t really my thing and I don’t like him that way. I don’t think he likes me that way either.”

“Are you kidding? What about all those bookstores and coffee shops? Those weren’t dates?” asked Jungkook. “What were you guys doing?”

“Looking at books!” said Catalina. “He just really likes literature, and I really like coffee.”

“Did he pay for your coffee every time?”

“Yes.”

“Then that’s a date,” said Jungkook.

“We spot each other all the time. So, are you telling me it’s a date when you pay for my McDonalds or when I pay for your movie ticket?” asked Catalina.

“That’s different,” said Jungkook. Catalina threw her hands up.

“Okay, we’re getting off topic,” she said. “You distract him, I’ll get the card.”

“Casual sex also isn’t my thing though,” said Jungkook.

Catalina threw her head back laughing. “You don’t have to fuck him! Just keep him downstairs talking or something.”

“I can do that. Are we doing it tonight?” asked Jungkook.

“Sure.”

That evening, Catalina and Jungkook went to the mansion. Jungkook brought his French homework. Luckily, Namjoon was the one to answer the door.

“Oh, hey guys! Come on in,” he said. He led them to the lounge and Jungkook immediately got his homework out.

“I was wondering if you could help me with this,” said Jungkook.

“Sure, let’s see,” said Namjoon. Catalina wandered off. The upstairs was thankfully not as big as the main floor, but there were many halls and many rooms. Catalina went to Hoseok’s room, starting her search from there. The next door in the hallway was open. Catalina looked inside, flicking on the light switch. It looked like a basic, model bedroom. It didn’t look like it belonged to anyone, probably a guest room. The next room was enormous and absolutely trashed. The giant bed in the middle of the room had a mountain of blankets and clothes on it. Clothes, loose papers, and books littered the floor. Beat up, crooked antique paintings decorated the walls, along with torn calligraphy banners. The Asian style furniture looked ancient, worn and battered, but luxuriously wealthy.

Catalina moved on to the next room. This one was a bit more modern and, curiously, vaguely nautical themed. A huge window against the back wall let light shine in on the white painted wood of the furniture, the mess of easels and canvases in the corner, and the mix of paintings on the seashell wallpapered walls: realism, abstract, cubism, a few charcoal sketches of Hoseok, Yoongi, and Namjoon, and a single painting of a lighthouse looking out at a stormy sea. Catalina went to the next room.

This one was the most modern, with dark walls and mahogany furniture. It was sleek and rustic, with a twisted wood bed frame, alpaca rugs on the ground, smooth couches in the corner with a driftwood coffee table in the center, and along every free wall, bookshelves. The entire room was spotless. This must be Namjoon’s room. At least, Catalina hoped it was. She stepped inside and went to the desk tucked into one of the bookshelves. She rifled through the drawers until she found one filled with business cards.

“Shit,” she whispered. There were quite a few cards, but she got to work sorting through them. Most of them looked old and yellowed with age. She automatically set those ones aside. She couldn’t remember that vampire’s name, but she knew she’d remember it if she saw it. After sorting through what felt like hundreds of cards, she finally found one with the familiar name on it.

It was a new card, simple, with just a name, an address, and a phone number on it. The name on it was Makai La’ei. That sounded right. Catalina rearranged the rest of the cards back to how she found them and shoved this one in her pocket. She was definitely running out of time, Jungkook only had so much homework.

When she got downstairs, she went right to the lounge, but it was empty. Jungkook’s French textbook was laying open on the coffee table. Her heart skipped a beat. Namjoon wouldn’t hurt him, would he? She thought. She backed out of the lounge and looked up and down the hallway. Her heart was pounding, but before her thoughts could fully run away on her, she heard Jungkook’s voice approaching, saying, “And that’s how I went to senior prom with Dr. Dre’s daughter, Truly.”

Namjoon and Jungkook rounded the corner, both holding McDonalds bags and hot coffees in their hands.

“You guys went out?” Catalina asked.

“Yeah, we got hash browns,” said Namjoon, handing one of the bags to her.

“Isn’t this yours?” asked Catalina.

“Grease gives me a stomachache,” he said.

“I was just craving hash browns. I figured you’d want a few too,” said Jungkook. Catalina’s heart skipped a beat, but this time not out of fear.

“I love these,” she whispered, opening the greasy paper bag to see three hash browns inside. Something nudged her hand. She looked up to see Jungkook handing her his coffee as well. Namjoon wandered off, sipping at his own coffee. “What are you doing?”

“I don’t like coffee,” he said. “Take it.”

“Thank you,” she said. “Did you already finish your homework?”

“Yeah, turns out Namjoon is fluent in French,” said Jungkook. “And Korean, and Chinese, and Japanese, and German. And…what was that other one?”

“Swahili,” Namjoon said from inside the lounge.

“Why?” asked Catalina.

“I was bored,” he said with a shrug. Jungkook looked at Catalina with questioning eyes. Catalina nodded.

“Well, thank you for helping me with this,” said Jungkook, gathering his textbook and notes. “I hate this class, so any help is much appreciated. Anyway, we have to get going. We have some errands to run.”

“Sure, no problem,” said Namjoon as he walked them to the door. “We’re all fluent in French here, expect for Hoseok, so feel free to ask any of us any time.”

“Thank you,” Catalina said as she pulled her shoes on.

“That was too easy,” said Jungkook as they were getting into his car.

“Not really!” said Catalina. “He had a whole drawer full of business cards. I had to sort through all of them.”

“I was talking about the homework,” said Jungkook. He pulled out of the driveway and began the drive down the mountain. “He gave me all the answers. But that explains why you were gone for so long.”

“Yeah, and I saw the other rooms,” said Catalina. “I think Tae’s room is nautical themed.”

“Why?” Jungkook asked. Catalina shrugged. “Well, whatever. Does that card have an address on it?”

“Yeah,” Catalina pulled the card out of her pocket and typed the address into her maps app. It gave her a route to a location in the middle of the town. She let Siri lead them as she plugged in her phone and looked up spy music on iTunes. She found a playlist and put it on shuffle, letting the groovy guitar of “Secret Agent Man” blast through the car.

By the time they arrived, they were well into “Hawaii Five-O”. The GPS had led them to what looked like an abandoned hospital. Jungkook drove a block past it so they could walk the rest of the way. As they walked, they reviewed the plan.

“So, we can’t get caught, obviously,” said Jungkook. “We’re just sneaking in, taking a quick look, maybe some pictures, then getting out.”

“Right,” said Catalina. “Quick and fast.”

They snuck in and found a basement stairwell, which they took. The rest of the hospital was empty. They could hear voices coming from the basement, so as quietly as they could, they snuck down the stairs, which led them to a cement tunnel with a metal grated floor. The tunnel gave Catalina a sense of Déjà vu, but she couldn’t figure out why. Faint voices echoed from the end of the tunnel. They reached the end and peaked around the corner. What they saw made their jaws drop. A huge, cavernous cement room with some furniture in the middle. Doors lined the walls, some open, some closed. Catalina could see from where she was that there were people in the rooms with open doors. People sitting or laying on the ground, tubes attached to their arms connecting to IV stands, blood bags hanging from the hooks.

Jungkook was snapping rapid fire pictures of as much of the room as they could see.

The voices, which were coming from a part of the room they couldn’t see, stopped talking.

“Bernard, go check the tunnel and stairs. I thought I heard something.”

Before Bernard even had a chance to move, Catalina and Jungkook booked it back down the tunnel and up the stairs. Jungkook led the way, and he was fast, so Catalina struggled to keep up with him. Once they were at the top of the stairs, they looked around for an open room. A bit down the hall, there was an open doorframe with a missing door. They darted for it, Jungkook pulling her inside and crowding her against the wall, hidden in the shadows.

Catalina was scared they’d be caught, but now she freaking out about something entirely different, namely, Jungkook’s chest and arms caging her against the wall. He was so close that Catalina could feel the heat coming off him. Her blush made its way down her neck into her chest, her breath quickening.

“He’s coming,” Jungkook whispered, his wide eyes glued to the doorway. Sure enough, Catalina could hear heavy boots crunching through the debris in the hallway, getting closer to where they were. “Do you trust me?”

“What?” Catalina asked.

“Do you trust me?” Jungkook asked again. “I saw this in a TV show. It works every time.”

Before Catalina could ask for clarification, several things happened at once: the man, presumably Bernard, began entering the room, Jungkook pressed even closer, a hand on her waist, the other finding its way to her hair, and his lips crashed against hers. She let out a squeak of surprise but quickly caught on, gripping his shirt and leaning into the kiss.

“Oh, for crying out loud,” a man’s voice said from the doorway. They broke apart and looked at him. “This is private property, guys. Get lost.”

“Sorry,” Jungkook said, flashing a sheepish smile. Bernard stepped aside to let them past, waving them in the direction of the exit. Even though her heart was still pounding out of her chest and her head was still spinning, Catalina made a point to check Bernard’s eyes. They were red.

On their way out, they heard the crackle of a walkie talkie and Bernard saying, “It was just some kids making out upstairs. This happens way too often, boss. We gotta start putting signs up or something.”

On their way to the car, Jungkook said, “That was a close one.”

“Was that just an excuse to kiss me?” Catalina joked, not sure she wanted to know the answer.

“It worked, didn’t it?” Jungkook said with a wink. Catalina blushed and shoved him.

“Shut up,” she said.

Florida Beach Cottage

This is a post you want to save and come back to anytime when things are feeling a little blue, because I can almost guarantee that this home will leave you feeling a little lighter and much happier.

To say that I love this designer’s work is an understatement. She design homes that are tailored without losing their soul. In another words, she design interiors that are meant to be lived in and not just looked at.

Lisa Peterson, interior designer and co-owner of Pineapples, Palms, Etc. has always dreamed of living in a comfortable, relaxed, Florida Cracker style cottage, with views and breezes from the water that create her “Barefoot Dream” lifestyle. Peterson and her husband were fascinated by the “Old Florida” appeal of Hobe Sound. The unincorporated village, adjacent to Jupiter Island, is a little slice of heaven. Covered with Banyan trees, the neighborhood they chose to build their home was laden with history. The lot next door housed an Ice House in the late 1800’s and the stretch of Intracoastal waterway in front of the home was once the site of a ferry landing for boats to carry perspective land buyers to Jupiter Island.

“Cottage on Cabot” was built with the true Florida Cracker architecture of the past, and blends perfectly with its historic surroundings. Cracker architecture was used widely in the 19th century in Florida. Florida cracker homes are characterized by metal roofs, wrap around porches, long and straight central hallways from the front to the back of the home. Peterson loved this concept so she incorporated many windows and doors that open onto the large deck, allowing the constant ocean breeze to fill the house.

Pineapples, Palms, Etc., is a popular retail and interior design store in Jupiter, just 15 minutes away from the home, and is known for its crisp, modern coastal style, with a unique brand of casual elegance. The sisters opened the store in 2001, and it remains in the same location today, providing interior design services to locals, as well as many professional athletes and celebrities that reside in the area. Peterson took the vibe from the store, which is loaded with one-of-a-kind pieces and comfortable, slipcovered furniture and infused Cottage on Cabot with a similar energy. The result is open, airy and inviting.

The stone pathway is Key West Coral stone.

Home-Sweet-Home

Lisa’s main goal of this home was to achieve a home that fit the Old Florida neighborhood it sits in. She wanted it to look as though it could have been built 60+ years ago. As for the interior, she wanted something relaxing and tranquil that felt fresh and clean.

“Every year, This Old House® collaborates with a team of industry professionals and leading home-improvement brands to build a state-of-the art “Idea House.” Sweenor Builders was honored to partner with Union Studio Architecture and Community Design and Denise Enright Interior Design for the 2017 Idea House in the bucolic seaside neighborhood of East Matunuck Farms in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Located just across from the foyer, behind sliding barn doors, you will find a study with custom bookcases with X-detailing on the doors.

Built-in shelves add charm and create privacy between bunks, provide charging stations, and offer guests places to store personal items.”

Ryan Korban

Ryan Korban may be better known for being a specialist of high-end retail design and having worked for remarkable houses such as Balenciaga, Alexander Wang and Aquazzura, but his talent doesn’t stop there. – 40 Bleecker is another remarkable project by this designer.

“When designing 40 Bleecker, I knew my work needed to speak to a new generation of downtown buyers who are looking for luxury and elegance against a modern backdrop. This idea of contrast is evident throughout the spaces in everything from textures and materials to finishes and furniture—masculine contrasts with feminine, traditional with modern, soft with brutalist.”

Rockwell Group

The Rockwell’s Group work for this luxury hotel is astonishing and couldn’t stop ourselves from giving a special highlight to the bedrooms. First off, the hotel comprises a total of 349 rooms that the duo has set up with botanically inspired designs as well as artful interiors. Not only that, but the dynamic duo also made sure to incorporate plenty of whimsical details while also paying close attention to space and functionality.

The bedroom’s warm and open atmosphere is the result of the use of a muted colour palette which includes – wood-like floors, army-green mosaic tile, as well as striped drapes. Each room also features custom-designed and multipurpose furniture designs that also elevate the rooms to maximum comfort.

Yabu Pushelberg

Yabu Pushelberg first major project in the UK — the new hotel from Ian Schrager: the London edition. Located in central London’s Fitzrovia, Yabu Pushelberg has preserved the finest aspects of the historic building (formerly the Berners hotel), while still reinventing the spaces and bringing to them a dynamic fusion of old and new; past and present.

The hotel’s lobby features a cosy, yet old-school glamorous atmosphere. The American minimal artist, Donald Judd serves as the inspiration for the room, making it the juxtaposition between the existing traditional spaces and the more modern insertions.

Peter Marino

With setting on Biscayne Bay, and located on Star Island, this long rectangle of land, was a challenge for the architect Peter Marino who only had a couple of rooms with water views.

Nonetheless, his artful talent and exquisite craft made it all possible and the result demonstrates, as per usual Peter Marino’s strengths as well as his undeniable connection to art. In this particular living room design, he worked with the owners’ Asian sculptures and paintings by Léger, Miró, Kiefer, and Prince, but was also able to commission pieces including Lalanne furnishings. The result is eclectic, inspiring and bold – perfect for anyone who hates a minimal room!

Marmol Radziner

As a regular guest of leading publications such as – Architectural Digest, Dwell, The New York Times Magazine, Wallpaper, Interior Design, and Architectural Record – Marmol Radziner is a must cover whenever showcasing the best design projects of the moment.

This time the project we would like to bring to your attention is the one developed in partnership with legendary music icon Lenny Kravitz, who founded Kravitz Design Inc., a design company focusing on residential, commercial, and product design. The pre-crafted, one-bedroom home was smartly considered to maximize the use of its compact footprint. The colour scheme is neutral and uncompromising which conveys it with a lovely sense of eternal elegance.

Hirsch Bedner Associates

Hirsch Bedner Associates has created various show flats and marketing Suites in a diversity of foreign places. Their approach to the whole design, spatial planning, detail, colour psychology and accessory selection is immaculate and inspired and a big reason why we wanted to show a little bit of his work in more detail.

The Altamount Residence in MUMBAI (India), is his latest design project and it features bold colours, rich colours as well as noble materials. These luxury residences were inspired by the multilayered urbanity as well as the culture of Mumbai.

A small palette of materials is implemented throughout the space in varying finished and sizes to add richness. Architectural lighting plays an important role in enhancing and complementing the layered experience throughout the living room. One of the most iconic furnishings from this unique project is the Eden centre table designed by Boca do Lobo and is located in the living room.

Martyn Lawrence Bullard

Martyn Lawrence Bullard is great at bringing unexpected elements to the same place. This bathroom design is one of our favourites from all of his work and, therefore, definitely worth the highlight.

This phenomenal bathroom is located in Villa Luna, and the key element is the pop of colour that contrasts with the neutral furniture. Another noticeable element refers to the gorgeous cabinets which are fully covered in a gorgeous and classic, Missoni fabric.

Nate Berkus

Berkus believes that homeowners should think about bathrooms as more than just utilitarian and functional spaces. Instead, a thoughtful decoration method is set to leave us with a further nicer result.

According to Nate Berkus, the aim is always to express one’s style and personal preferences – from colours to materials, textures and accessories – for the designer, important is to never settle down in the sense of just doing things without a purpose or care.

Michael Smith

The old Hollywood elite’s favourite, Casa del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, has been revived with modern-day amenities and some luxurious upgrades courtesy of celebrity designer Michael S. Smith.

We especially loved the work done in the rooms; the multi-level Penthouse suites which are reminiscent of Italian seaside villas and feature eclectic Venetian-designed furnishings, a living room with a fireplace, a formal dining area, and either one, two, or three bedrooms with separate sitting areas, giving guests the feeling they are in their own private, beachfront pied-a-terre. Not only that, but the rooms also feature custom designed alder and walnut furnishings throughout, with particular attention to the use of a variety of hues and textures. You will also be able to find ebony finished pieces that contrast with the light blue walls, as well as furniture with caning, or raffia wallpapered bookcases.

The centrepiece is a rich walnut four-poster bed accented with luxurious white linens, lush chenille throws, and a bisque-colored ceramic garden stool located at its base. Other gorgeous details include; an etched and hand-silvered mirror, a selection of thoughtfully chosen novels, and whimsical artefacts reflective of the property’s beach location, such as coral and vintage maps of downtown Santa Monica, inspired by an original print dating back to the 1930s.

Timothy Corrigan

Timothy Corrigan is the owner of Chateau du Grande-Lucé, located in Le Grand-Lucé, in France’s Loire Valley. The chateau and its gardens are listed as French National Landmarks. When Timothy acquired the glorious 18th-century estate, restoration was on top of the list and the chateau was quite wrecked. The decoration was the next step, and it was also what brought life back to this beautiful property.

This French Chateau was built between 1760 and 1764, so stepping inside it, is a complete time travel experience. – While most of the rooms are very formal, the subtle pops of colour, whether it be on the walls or fabrics – keep the space looking far from a museum.

Kelly Hoppen

Kelly Hoppen signature style is a mix of contemporary and luxury, with bold and glamorous accents. This and so much more makes her stand out has one of the best interior designers of our times.

This home in London is one of her latest interior design projects and displays perfectly her decorating style that we all love and admire so much. In this specific project, we really loved her work in the living room. – The all-white family room, which includes the kitchen, and both dining and sitting areas, is decorated with contemporary furniture. It is highly functional, but also very comfortable, luxurious, and filled with light.

David Collins Studio

The Connaught Bar in London has been brilliantly designed by the David Collins Studio and comprises three rooms featuring hand-dyed degrade leathers, metal-studded black leather tables, and silver leaf mirror artwork.

The bar is panelled in a hand-painted Hibernian landscape which was designed in collaboration with Atelier Pierre Bonneville featuring gorgeous hues of dusty pink, pistachio green, and pale lilac; all framed in platinum silver leafed oak panels, which are a representation of the Irish inspired landscape.

David Collins Studio has done such an outstanding job that this bar has actually won many awards including “best interior design of the year” (Elle Decoration) and best bar for sealing the deal (esquire man at the top awards).

Zaha Hadid Architects

As a continuation of Zaha Mohammad Hadid legacy, Hadid’s Architects delivers this incredibly designed yacht which completely lives up to Hadid’s well-known design style – neo-futuristic and characterised by powerful, curving forms and elongated structures.

In the words of the belated architect – “As a dynamic object that moves in dynamic environments, the design of a yacht must incorporate additional parameters beyond those for architecture—which all become much more extreme on water. Each yacht is an engineered platform that integrates specific hydrodynamic and structural demands together with the highest levels of comfort, spatial quality, and safety.”

Within this project, we would like to highlight the beautiful exteriors which are characterised of a series of interwoven support beams; giving the superyachts Hadid’s ‘simple elegance’ signature style.

Everything inside has been designed in a clean, all-white manner and which is inspired by the ocean’s fluid form. The common area looks both futuristic and calming, mixing a white variety of minimal and practical forms.

Philippe Starck

Philippe Starck is one of the main French interior designers of the moment and is known for his incredible vision on interior design as well as design styles in general. He always creates a unique atmosphere in any place he decorates, and the work done for the Hotel Faena in Argentina is no exception.

We particularly love the work done in the bedrooms, where you can view the use of two main colours – white and red. This sets the mood for the entire room, making it a bold and daring space that also has a comfortable and cosy feel to it. The furniture has been meticulously chosen in order to create an environment that unveils perfect visual harmony.

Jean Louis Deniot

Jean Louis Deniot is known for his iconic design style that features no shortage of arresting materials and textures tempered with subtle colour palettes, muted tones as well as impeccable lighting. The result is a mix between classical terminology and contemporary aesthetics with a serene and elegant touch.

We loved the work he did for this Paris Avenue Montaigne flat, and especially the living room design in it.- The lines are filled with a multiplicity of layers, going from sophisticated furniture, a mixture of nude patterns, textures, materials and pieces from different periods, which are combined in his usual masterful way.

His design aesthetic can be defined as ‘French Chic’ and includes timeless interiors with different style inspirations and influences. Due to his tremendous experience and mastery conquered through the years, Jean-Louis Deniot is more than used to adapting the décor style around his clients’ preferences, and while always associating them with his, informal, but bold signature style.

Karim Rashid

Karim Rashid is known as one of the best interior design professionals, and owner of a fresh and truly unique style, where colours and curves are the main focus.

This living room style is the perfect example of Karim Rashid’s style and includes all of his signature decor elements – lots of colour, lots of prints, modern shapes, all of which on a contemporary looking backdrop. When Karim Rashid is designing a new space, there are no rules, there are only possibilities.

Patricia Urquiola

One of Patricia Urquiola’s most beloved projects was done for the boutique Hotel Les Cigales in Nice (France).

The starting point draws from Giannakopoulou’s origins: “xeno-dochio”, is greek for a box that contains travellers, otherwise known as a hotel. The architects’ interpretation centres on a narrative of geometric shapes appearing throughout the 6,000-square-foot, four-story property. The bedrooms are our favourite and include – boxy daybeds, round mirrors, triangulated brass wardrobes, each one unique but all with Achille Castiglioni and Joe Colombo light fixtures. Even the throw pillows boast a grid of rectangles, making it all almost look like “an abstract painting of Nice.”

Dimore Studio

One of our favourite projects by the Dimore Studio is ‘Leo’s inside The Arts Club’ on Dover Street, in Mayfair (London). In fact, the Italian duo Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, worldwide known as Dimore Studio, have been tasked with the designing of the new interiors of Leo’s inside The Arts Club on Dover Street, in Mayfair, London. This is a major event for The Arts Club since it represents its most significant transformation since the overhaul of 2011.

This concept takes us through to the 1960s, where a mix of contemporary retro and oriental elements standout as the main stars. In the end, the result is divided into a bar with a counter (and counter stools), as well as a nightclub with a stage, where any guest can have a tremendously good time!

Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wander is one of the masterminds behind ‘Moooi’ – an astonishing brand that provides a wide range of solutions that clients find remarkably unique. Through its approach to shapes, patterns and textures, Moooi’s bring more boldness into any interior design style.

As you can see by this Moooi leaving room design; the brand goes the extra mile to take your home decoration to a stellar level. With an iconic mix of lighting, furniture and accessories, they are the go-to choice when inspiration is lacking as their fresh approach to interior design can spice up any creative mind!

Piet Boon

Piet Boon is one of the most important and iconic designers of our time, belonging to the list of ‘most famous Dutch architects and interior designers’. Together with Karin Meyn his creative director, this top interior designer leads his own team of designers, interior designers, and architects, who all together join forces with the aim of creating some of the best interior design and architecture projects to their ever-growing list of prime clients.

This ‘Paris Luxury Apartment’ is just another proof of Piet Boon Studio’s remarkable work. We especially love the bedroom where beautiful hues of turquoise, elevate this modern master bedroom to a place of luxuriant tranquillity

India Mahdavi

The Ladurée’s Tokyo Salon designed by India Mahdavi is one of the best examples of her signature style – “Queen of colour”.

In this particular project, Mahdavi has been consistent with the theme of French macarons and pastries. The end result is a whimsical combination of mint-green and bonbon pink that takes right into a glamorous Parisian dream.

To further enhance the interior design of the tea salon, Mahdavi added marvellous white candy-stick tables, bespoke and scalloped furniture with plush velvet cushions, grey and white marble floor; the walls are decorated with beautiful blown glass floret lamps that are an excellent complement to the cherry blossom-pink walls while meringue-shaped ceilings lamps soften the down lighting.

Twinkle Khanna

In this Kohler x Twinkle Khanna mesmerizing bathroom campaign you can see some of the most unique as well as beautiful interior design ideas for luxury bathrooms.

Kohler is best known for bringing innovation and style to the bathroom set, offering a wide variety of minimalist and sleek products and working with Twinkle Khanna was just the perfect fit for this project.

The range of designs is best described for featuring intriguing patterns inspired by cultural elements from all around the world such as – the Artists Edition sinks (Derring and Marrakesh) – which were inspired by Moorish architecture. These designs bring functionality and artistry to a whole new level and are beautiful statement pieces for any luxury bathroom.

In Twinkle Khanna’s words about the project – “This campaign really spoke to the designer in me. If you think about it, white and chrome have been synonymous with bathrooms. $750,000 Homes in Mississippi, Missouri and Arizona

Oxford, Miss. | $750,000

A newly built house with three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, on a 0.31-acre lot

Adapted from Allison Ramsey Architects’ cottage plans, this home was constructed in 2019 by its owner, who is also the listing agent. It is 10 minutes on foot from the University of Mississippi campus and Courthouse Square, the historic heart of Oxford and the location of what is said to be the oldest department store in the South (Neilson’s, founded in 1839). This home is just a few blocks uphill from Country Club Plaza, a historic shopping center with Spanish-style buildings, whose holiday-season lights are visible from the property’s roof deck. The nine-acre Westwood Park is a five-minute walk west, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a mile and a half east. The owners recently freshened all the interior paint and installed new carpet.

As Home Buyers Flock In, Fort Worth Embraces Its Cowtown Reputation

When Maridon and Jason Grochowski found a vacant lot in Rivercrest Bluffs, a gated community in Fort Worth’s River District, they signed on the dotted line right away. But they knew they had a long wait ahead of them.

The nearly 15-acre development on the Trinity River still lacked streets, curbs, sewers and other infrastructure when they bought their land for $375,000 in 2014.

Last year, the Grochowskis finally moved into their 5,000-square-foot, four-bedroom home. With views of the bluff overlooking the river and access to the hiking trails from their backyard, “you have the feeling of being out in nature,” says Ms. Grochowski, 47, a stay-at-home mother of two children and a real-estate investor. But when she and her husband, a technology consultant, are craving steak from Del Frisco’s or heading to the Kimbell Art Museum for an exhibit, Fort Worth’s Sundance Square in downtown and cultural district are only five minutes away.

Young professionals and families are discovering the charms of Fort Worth, a city of about 875,000 people with deep roots in the cattle industry. In recent years, this Cowtown has gone Uptown with the rise of upscale condo developments and gated subdivisions offering high-end amenities. Professionals coming from pricey cities outside of Texas are looking for larger luxury homes with a “yard for their dog,” says real-estate agent Martha Williams, co-founder of Williams Trew in Fort Worth. “If they’ve been living in an apartment in New York or L.A., they want a more a residential setting.” Proximity to the city’s cultural district and the Trinity River Trail system is also a draw.

In 2013, the average price of a luxury home, defined as the top 5% of the market, was $672,825, with 358 properties sold. Today, its $716,729, with 651 luxury properties sold in 2018, according to MLS data provided by John Giordano, a residential developer and an agent specializing in luxury properties with Giordano, Wegman, Walsh & Assoc. This does not account for private listings or land purchases for new construction, he adds.

But the market is cooling. With more inventory recently, “the prices are softening a bit, especially in the high-end market,” Ms. Williams says.

Ryan and Jessica Dodson moved from suburban Mansfield to the Colonial Hills neighborhood of Fort Worth last spring. They gut-renovated and built an addition onto a 1942 home they purchased for just over $1 million. The design, inspired by one-story California contemporary ranches, features a wing for the couple’s three school-aged children and a master wing for themselves.

“I was fairly particular on what I wanted,” says Mr. Dodson, 42, of the 6,400-square foot home near Texas Christian University. “We wanted something we could renovate and make our own.” While Mr. Dodson, a commercial real-estate developer, won’t disclose the cost of renovations, similarly sized, newly renovated homes in the area cost around $2 million, according to Realtor.com.

Those looking for new construction in the city are also buying in the Riverhills residential area and near the Clearfork development, an area that was once part of the historic Edwards Ranch, according to Mr. Giordano. New homes in Riverhills range from $800,000 to $3 million, and the development includes a Neiman Marcus department store and other luxury retailers as well as fine dining.

For suburban-style homes, the gated Montserrat neighborhood on the city’s west side is another popular option because properties are still near the loop of Interstate 820 and offer an easy commute, says Mr. Giordano. The largest home on the market in the neighborhood is a 24,093-square-foot mansion, built in 2006, with an indoor pool and 13 living areas with traditional touches. It is listed for $7 million.

In the established Rivercrest neighborhood, Michael and Leigh Bornitz bought a French provincial-style house across from the River Crest Country Club for $600,000 in 2011 and spent 1½ years on renovations.

Leigh and Michael Bornitz purchased a home in 2008 and completed a 1 1/2-year renovation. The home has a French country-style exterior with a built-in ornamentation over the doorway.

Ms. Bornitz, a 41-year-old interior designer, says she took some risks with the décor. “The entry hall is lacquered green—I don’t think I can talk a client into those color combinations,” she says. Throughout the home she used bright wall colors, intricate woodwork and eclectic mix of vintage and modern furniture. In the kitchen, she had the original ’70s steel cabinets from St. Charles of New York repainted with a beige automotive finish to create a retro feel. Outdoors, she used vintage brick and a fountain to create a Savannah-inspired courtyard.

James, the son of Leigh and Michael Bornitz, rides a scooter between the dining room and the sunroom. Ms. Bornitz, an interior designer, experimented with colors and textures throughout the home.

Some sellers are capitalizing on demand for turnkey properties from out-of-state buyers who don’t have time to build. In the fall, Tiffany Figueiredo says she put her 3,800-square-foot home on the market for $1.2 million and it sold in 2½ months for close to asking price. The buyers, an-out-of-state couple, purchased most of the furniture as well. The contemporary home was built in 2011 a few minutes’ drive from the town’s Cultural District, home to institutions such as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Ms. Figueiredo, 49, who works as a travel adviser, downsized into a condo she previously used as a rental property.

Lately, interest has broadened to land on the outskirts of Fort Worth’s more established neighborhoods. Steve Halliday, a commercial architect, purchased “a weird triangular lot” south of downtown Fort Worth to be close to his office in Fairmount for $30,000. To fit the layout of the land, he designed the home around a triangular swimming pool and spent another $130,000 on construction. “We used geometry to connect the lots and the lot lines disappeared,” says Mr. Halliday, who lives there with his wife and two children. Inside he created an open-plan living area with black granite countertops and black custom cabinets in the kitchen. In addition to the main home, Mr. Halliday, 39, built a separate structure for his mother-in-law to provide privacy.

For him, living close to the historic Fairmount neighborhood with restaurants and arts is key. “It’s a walkable neighborhood with more of an urban connection,” he says.

A Thing or Two about Fort Worth

Fort Worth started as just that—a fort. It was an Army outpost built in 1849 to protect the American frontier. Here, drovers trailed more than four million cattle through the city, earning it the name “Cowtown.” But that is all changing.

Exchange Avenue in the city’s historic Stockyards connects with its opposite pole, historic Magnolia Avenue. Both hangouts have vastly different characters crowding the streets on a Saturday night, but both were revitalized in recent years with their heritage in mind.

At the Stockyards cowboys and tourists grab a steak at Cattlemen’s Steak House and a dance at the colossal honky-tonk, Billy Bob’s Texas. On Magnolia, a passerby may spot a Range Rover parked in front of Craftwork Coffee, where two bearded men likely coiffed at the ever-popular Fort Worth Barber Shop step out for a vegan latte.

On Jan. 19, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the city’s oldest traditions, will take place for the last time in the beloved Will Rogers Coliseum—and event planners titled “Old School Cool.” In 2020, for the first time in 75 years, sparkling Dickies Arena will host the event.

Here, some spectators can be seen quaffing beer and eating a corn dog, while others sip Champagne in box seats while wearing an heirloom fur coat and $5,000 boots custom-made by Northside’s M.L. Leddy’s. It’s the spirit of Fort Worth wrapped up in one place.

During the renovation, they uncovered a former exterior wall within the apartment, revealing that the kitchen and entry space had once been an outdoor porch. The old window and ceiling beams were left exposed.

The master bath was a troublesome renovation. There were areas where brick wouldn’t stop crumbling. The result is a mix of antique-style fittings and rustic, exposed walls and ceiling beams.

Marbled wallpaper in the guest bath, where an industrial-style antique sink and gilded mirror embody the dual histories of the home—a lavish mansion and stark servants' quarters.

The loft bedroom hosts a pair of spindle beds draped in mosquito nets.

BEFORE The dim space featured wall-to-wall beige carpeting. AFTER The playful room is now home to a pair of antique rag rugs and sweet tents.

The courtyard of the circa-1820 Creole mansion is accessed via a street-level passageway that was once used for horse-drawn carriages.

Two Contemporary Renovations

One comment I get over and over again is:

Why don’t you show more reasonably priced houses?

And, I understand that comment.

Interior Design to me is: Dreaming. Wishing. Inspiration.

When I show an interior that is over-the-top or has an out-of-this world budget, it’s not that I mean to imply this is what I can afford (it’s not!) or what I think your house should look like. It’s just that people with big budgets can afford to hire talented interior designers and the effect is (sometimes) visually stunning. And often, it’s those big budget houses that allow us to dream, wish, and get inspiration from.

Still – I personally appreciate a great design with a smaller budget. I also love smaller homes. I love to see a tract home turned into something unique which is probably why I faithfully watch Fixer-Upper each season and why Lauren Liess’ new HGTV show will be so popular!

And…that’s why when I found these two houses shown here today, I thought you would enjoy seeing them too.

Unique? Yes.

Good design? Yes.

Affordable? Well, kind of. Location adds to the cost and has nothing to do with quality.

What also caught my attention is that both houses are contemporary.

The tide has turned (unfortunately!) and contemporary is back in fashion – big time. Driving this trend are the younger Millenniums and Generation Xers. These younger sets don’t want French design or English Country Manor (also unfortunately.) Instead, they want modern, slick, colorful and and lots of pattern.

And when I saw these two houses, below, they ticked all those boxes.

BEFORE: The first house in Houston that caught my eye was this Mid Century Modern house – which was in dire need of a renovation. What’s really nice about this particular house is it is a single story – and for families with young children, it’s great to have the babies close by. Also, single story houses are especially appealing to empty nesters who no longer want to climb a lot of stairs. This house has a front courtyard with no front windows, which makes it seem rather forbidding and uninviting. And it looks, very tired and worn.

The house was built in 1960 and is 2600+ sq. feet. It recently sold after it was listed for only two months!

And here is the house today! What a nice change!!! Look how much more friendly and inviting the house seems now with the new front window installed in the dining room. And notice how the double front door with glass planes lets even more light into the house. Instead of a solid brick wall – there is now a slatted wooden fence that adds to the openness. A fresh coat of light gray paint, new landscaping, and a cleaned up sidewalk creates a much improved curb appeal.

I think these were the original owners – it’s hard to maintain a house over such a long time. Notice how the brick needs cleaning, but who does that, especially if you are elderly? Sometimes it just takes a young couple to shake things up – like paint the brick, or have it power washed.

The large ornamental tree in front of the house was removed – letting in more light inside and opening up the house to guests. This closer view shows the slatted fence and the refreshed courtyard with new modern lanterns.

Who wouldn’t want to move into this house now??? I would! It’s so inviting and the Mid Century Modern is a nice change from the Georgian and Colonials which are the most popular architectural style in Houston.

The courtyard shows off the modern fountain. Now (pregnant pause) I think I would not have chosen a modern fountain, myself. I would have picked out a more classic styled fountain. You don’t have to overdo the Mid-Century look, you can mix elements which makes it more interesting. Or, maybe it’s just this particular fountain that I don’t care for?

What I do love is all the new windows that were installed in place of the original ones, which while functional, were undoubtedly, dated. The black trim is a nice accent. The trend today is metal doors and windows, but those are so expensive – no one on a budget can afford them; these, less costly, windows are a nice alternative. And I love the new door with the panes. This is a focal point inside the house - so many rooms look out to the courtyard. Love!

The lot is extra large and a pool would be a great addition later. But for now – notice there is another courtyard which the house wraps around. Inside, the former breakfast room has now become the utility room – and that window in the breakfast room was removed, seen on the left side here.

New doors and new siding, along with gray paint and darker gray paint on the doors – all which update the back yard. There is also a new roof which makes the house look almost newly built. The small accent tree was removed.

There’s a new terrace or a newly resurfaced terrace and whomever styled this house did a great job! New lanterns were also added here.

Another view shows how large the lot this. The house could easily be added onto at a later date. Inside these doors is the master bedroom.

BEFORE: The front doors lead to a hall that runs left to right. And down this step is the carpeted great room. Paneled and beamed with 60s styled prefab wood, there is a nice brick fireplace. The wall on the left that separates the great room from the kitchen has been removed. The dining room is off to the left of the front door, it faces the street.

Today: The dining room is off to the side of the front door and overlooks the street and the courtyard. The step down has been removed – all rooms are now level. There is new gray hardwood floors throughout the house, which is beautiful. This floor is so trendy, but I absolutely love it.

NOTE: Be careful when buying the new wood floors. Some of the choices have fake wood patterns and it looks awful!!!

From the kitchen – here is view of the great room. The shelves were removed which is a new edit and it opens up the room. The paneling and beams were also removed. All new French doors open the room to the back yard. The fireplace was painted with a smear technique and a new rustic mantel was added. I like that they mixed the elements and not everything is Mid Century Modern.

Myself? I would have installed a large lantern or iron chandelier here instead of a fan. But this is Houston and it gets really hot here. And obviously, the builder is a man.

A close up of the refreshed mantel. I use those kinds of urns a lot in decorating. They are not expensive and they are a nice accessory – plus they are large and give a lot of look for the money.

Today: Looking from the Great Room back to the kitchen, now open with the wall removed. The dining room is also now open to the Great Room since its walls were removed. And the opening between the front hall and Great Room was expanded. Today, with no stepdown, the opening is much larger.

I love the subway tile - it is classic and will always look nice. Always. Plus, it won’t date or age as fast as all the trendy tiles people are using today. Those trendy tiles will be so out of style in five years. Be careful!!!! Subway is a safer way to go.

The counters are Quartz and Dolamite – a mixture of two colors. Well, I have to say, I’m still a white marble girl but so many people are using the faux marble and it does look good and is a viable alternative to marble, which needs TLC. Marble has to be resealed every couple of years and the faux marbles don’t.

The layout of the kitchen is very pretty with the stove between the two windows. I would not have put in the upper cabinets at all and I would have run the subway tile to the ceiling which would have been really dramatic and great looking. But this design is still very nice. Certainly not worth changing except, I would change out the pendants, which is a personal choice. Despite my critiques, I do really love this kitchen - well done!

After: The breakfast room is now a large laundry room/mud room.

Before: The dining room. That chair is … 60’s cute! I’ve never seen one like that before. The dining room was very large – and the renovators decided to divide it into two rooms. They removed the side window and added a new window at the front – which opened up the room to more sunlight and created a much more pleasing façade.

AFTER: The newly divided dining room. The front section is now a sitting area which seems like a waste – I do wonder why they didn’t make it a small library, at least? The room can be closed off with barn doors with glass, so no light is blocked out if the doors are closed. I’m really not sure why they chose to divide the room at all. They could have added bookshelves along the back wall and made it all one, nice large dining room/library. I will say this - the barn doors do add a nice architectural element.

Before: The master bedroom overlooks the back courtyard. Look at that TV cabinet!!! It matches the King Henry XVIII chair. Most interesting.

OK. I ASSUME that is the TV cabinet! Any other ideas?

BEFORE: The master bathroom has yellow foil wallpaper typical of the 60s.

Today: The room was made roomier with the newly raised ceiling. It accounts for an extra foot which adds to the luxe factor. The bathroom door was moved to the center of the wall and a modern barn door was installed.

NOTE: The barn door has taken the place of the old sliding doors. Will this be a trend or is it here to stay? I think it’s here to stay.

Sorry to say – but I really can’t stand that bed – it looks so heavy and SQUARE!!! LOL. But in general, the staging is really nice, and staging is such a necessity.

One more time. Yes – we’d be proud of that barn door too!

The bathroom was reconfigured and since then, seems much larger. The center vanity was moved to the back wall. The shower stall is classic white tile which won’t age as opposed to the trendy tiles of today, which to me – are so unattractive.

Today – with the new windows, this room is now the study. It’s carpeted, probably to save a little money. But – how much do you really save? Instead of the beautiful wood floors found all over the rest of the house, why have carpet here?

Wall to wall shelving would make this a great library but the new owners could add that later. Boy, I really want them to have a library!!! LOL.

Before: The bath was in the blue and white, which I actually like! The former owners were big Mark Sikes fans.

AFTER: The same layout, but all new cabinetry and notice the concrete tile floors. I do love concrete tile, but in 5 years it will scream 2020!!

Do you think that concrete tile is just another passing trend? Since concrete tile has been used for the past 200 years, I think it’s a safe bet it’s here to stay.

Our second house today is called a tear-down, but the owners chose to renovate it instead. Built in 1940, this house is now a sale pending after being on the market for just a few days. It is located in trendy Garden Oaks – which is one reason why it went to contract so quickly.

The house now has 1,540 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.

AFTER: Quite a difference!!!! Now white, with a new driveway for cars, the side yard is open to the street through a modern, very contemporary fence. The garage is gone and that space was used for the entry. Another huge change is the roof was raised and pitched. Love the front lights.

This is the modern Farmhouse look – a combination of contemporary and charming.

This view shows the doors open to the living room. The bedrooms are at the back. I think the master bedroom/bathroom was added on to during renovation.

Looking into the house.

The back yard. Since the bedrooms are at the back of the house – the side yard is used instead. Although, the new owners could install a French door instead of a window so that the back yard is open to the bedrooms.

Inside. The new roof is raised and has exposed shiplap. Although the ceiling is new, it looks old and it initially fooled me! It’s just hard to believe this is not original. A loft was added – reached by an iron ladder. The French doors open to the side yard on of both sides of the living room. The kitchen looks out at the front street. The front door is to the left of the ladder.

The loft. This area is small, but would make a good study or - with shelves along the sides – a library. Hmmm. I want them to have a library too!

Can you tell that I have books all over my house and I’m constantly looking for a solution to that problem????

I love the styling. Great job!!! I do think I would have added two French doors here on this side, not just one.

The kitchen counter has the same shiplap as on the ceiling – which adds a warm texture.

I believe this is Quartzite on the counters. Love the stove – another industrial touch. Wood shelving instead of cabinets. White subway tiles – flanked by two front windows.

The farm sink and contemporary faucet are nice touches – luxe.

Against this wall is the pantry and refrigerator which looks built in because the cabinetry surrounds it. Why everybody doesn’t treat refrigerators this way just astounds me! It looks so much better than….this:

In another house – the cabinetry was built around the refrigerator – BUT it wasn’t built out enough so that the appliance looks huge and out of place!! If done correctly, this wouldn’t be an issue but for some reason, carpenters don’t do this enough, although it is becoming more common. This is something to watch for when renovating your kitchen!!

AND, here is the house without the staging that shows how VITAL staging is when selling or renting a property. Without the staging, I wouldn’t have looked twice at this house. It looks so plain and so uninviting without the staging. But, by spending the money, which is recouped by a quick sale – the house is so much more appealing with the staging!!!

Such a difference!!!

I love this table. They used a console to save space, but I found one that was very similar, and on sale!!

I love this French table HERE. Notice how pretty it looks when you mix antique-look furniture in with contemporary styling? Love the mix.

And here is the view from the outside, the side yard.

The master bedroom. I believe this was added onto the house during the renovation – creating an extra bedroom and bathroom.

The master bath has a shower with two sinks and a window! Love the light.

The second bedroom is in the house’s original footprint. Very cute styling.

And the original bathroom – renovated with subway tiles – shelves were created out of the extra space.

Both these renovated houses appeal to me and I could see downsizing (although the first house wouldn’t be a downsize!) and moving here. Living in a single story house appeals to me so much at this stage of life. And I like the contemporary styling as done here – very light contemporary!!!

BUT……

I can’t help it, I’m still a Francophile for life.

Now, why can’t I find THIS house for $350,000 somewhere in Houston? I’m not asking for much! Those floors!!! Those chairs!!! Sigh.

Those floors alone probably cost $350,000!!!!!

— Mid-Century Hollywood Glam Penthouse in Spain by Bconnected Living Concepts —

When Hollywood Deco style meets Miami colourful vibe by the sea, the final result is this breathtaking penthouse anchored in sunny Mallorca. A three bedroom apartment where Bconnected Living Concepts and designers Monica Cernich and Marie-Luise Leja let the inspiration take over.

The Mid-Century Glam is more visible in the lighting all around the Penthouse with DelightFULL Brand to gain prominence with Brubeck Suspension in the Dining area.

Monica and Marie-Luise were responsible for the shaping of an elegant diplomatic suit into a sassy cocktail dress, flamingos and pineapples included: the best for the very best; an exquisite place for an exquisite family and as they said in their own words: “a client like this comes around once in a lifetime”!

— Fontain Square Apartments by Nataly Bolshakova —

The project consists of 2-bedroomed apartments located in the centre of Kiev, Ukraine, with a total area of 175m2 designed by Nataly Bolshakova. This project was created for a young couple, who are well travelled and have formed their own vision and taste in decor. The aim was a symbiosis of hotel style, luxury contemporary design and not dry minimalism.

The bedroom is a special place. Deep and warm textures of wood, ochre and bronze create a cosy feeling in the space. Bespoke design wood panels feature here. The open bathtub installed in the bedroom is an unusual solution, but it worked. Walls in the section containing the bath are covered with panels of glass and wood. The significant and decorative elements in the bedroom area are the lighting Coltrane by Delightfull.

— The Bennet Bar by Delphine —

“The experience at The Bennett revolves around the art of the cocktail, so we’ve accentuated the bar as the focal point. All seating around the elongated marble-topped bar is elevated so guests can watch the bartender prepare their cocktails.”

“To make The Bennett a truly special place, its elegance and intimacy had to stand out. This elegance is conveyed through the contrasting materials we used: the chevron dark wooden wallpaper, the plush blue velvet banquettes, the raw concrete floor, the shagreen leather on the table tops”

“To reinforce the path between the bar and the seating area, elevated wooden patterns were added onto the wall. Together with the retro golden chandeliers above the elongated black marble bar, they create a warm and intimate atmosphere. I always pay great attention to detail: when designing for the hospitality industry, this can elevate a space to the next level. The service bell I mentioned before is one of those details that no other bar in New York City has, but it is a feature a lot of people talk about and appreciate.”

— Barcelona Apartment by ARRCC —

The renowned interior design studio, ARRCC created the flawless interiors of a Barcelona Apartment, located in the prominent area of Passeig de Gràcia. Through the combination of African influences and contemporary design, the studio led by Mark Rielly transformed the apartment into a tactile a welcoming space. In addition, ARRCC also drew inspiration from the culturally-vibrant Barcelona lifestyle and high-end fashion.

Each division displays a spectacular narrative that is enhanced by exquisite textures and polished raw materials, such as stained oak woods, bespoke vertical brass screens, modern cladding and lacquered panelling. Throughout the apartment, minimalist and modern appeal alongside masculine and feminine finishes are quite conspicuous.

“We wanted to create an intimate, warm and moody interior that we found was common in a lot of high-end boutique stores. Masculine colours and darker woods provide clues to the African rhythms. To build on this, we took a relaxed approach to curved shapes, adding draped leather sofas and details such as the vintage endocrine coffee table,” disclosed Mark Riely, the proficient director of ARRCC and project leader.

— The Villa in Copperhill Mountainside Lodge by Anemone Wille Våge —

The Wille Interior Studio was responsible for the design of a Villa, in the Copperhill Mountainside Lodge, in Åre-Björnen, Sweden. The project was concluded in 2010 and is considered to be one of the most stunning private villas in all Scandinavia.

The Villa is a luxurious log cabin with top-notch facilities and sensational views of the Jämtland Mountains. Sleeping up to 16 guests, this private chalet oozes glamorous alpine charm, without losing anything in terms of comfort and intimacy. Stylish furnishings, sophisticated interior design by Anemone Wille Våge, tailored services and an ambience of warmth and luxury blend to create one of the hippest and most exclusive ski lodges in Sweden.

The Villa was conceived as a unique set of a classic and exclusive winter resort that clearly stands out from other hospitality retreats in the Scandinavian Peninsula. It gives emphasis to the “Home Away from Home” saying and can be characterised as a faultless and entertaining “winter wonderland”, as described by the owner of the private ski lodge, Petter A. Stordalen.

— Country House by Arch.Predmet Interior Design Studio —

In 2016, Arch.Predmet Interior Design Studio completed the project of a country house in which they combined contemporary design and natural materials. As soon as the designers encounter the country house, they envision an empty space without any partitions. The layout of the place was made taking into consideration the wishes of the clients. For the ground floor, they opted for a spacious loft, a lounge zone, a study, a dining room with two informal living rooms and a small kitchen is also enclosed in this space.

Since the loft’s ceiling was 7 metres, the designers decided to design the space in the most efficient way, including arranging a mezzanine floor that includes a library and a cigar room. In the meantime, sleeping accommodations are located on separate floors. Each one has their own bathroom, walk-in closet, a mini-kitchen, and much more. In addition, renowned architect, Thomas bar reinforced the interior concept.

This gorgeous country house is comprised of a series of custom-made elements that raise the glamorous vibe of this project. The increasingly high day beds were made in Italy based on sketches by Olesia and Ekaterina. The carpets were made by Kovёr Bür and designed by the dynamic duo. One of their favourite brands is the Portugal-based contemporary art furniture brand Boca do Lobo which was responsible for the design of the avant-garde and customised cabinets dubbed Pixel. The brand utilised four species of wood to complete them and the interior is decorated with powder-blue velvet matching the colour of the daybeds.

— Heritage Home by Brendan Wong —

Brendan Wong is well-known for its signature style of providing an unexpected interior space, which is reflective in the interior design of a heritage home in the East of Sydney, originally built around 1890. To accommodate the needs of a modern and growing family, Brendon Wong Design created a luxuriously contemporary and clever sanctuary where the clients’ were looking for classic architectural integrity and a special interest in collections of art

Embracing Sydney’s sophisticated side the structure came together by combining furnishings that are elegant yet comfortable and robust. The forms, materials and details present intriguing twists which blend perfectly in the furniture and lighting pieces. The grand ceilings allow the introduction of contemporary chandeliers to update and illuminate the period details of the generously proportioned living spaces, grounded by the textural underpinning of wool and silk hand knotted rugs.

— Aquazzura’s Flagship Boutique in Florence by Casa do Passadiço —

The Portuguese design firm, Casa do Passadiço was the author of the interior architecture and decoration of the new Aquazzura flagship boutique located in the classical Palazzo Corsini, on the picturesque banks of the Arno River, right at the centre of Florence. The main concern the studio had while conceiving this project was guaranteeing that the balance between the historical setting and the contemporaneity of the brand was perceptible. The Atelier wanted to give an authentic display of high quality by coalescing contemporary elegance with discreet luxury.

Casa do Passadiço designed all the interior architecture to the very last detail, creating custom-made furniture exclusively for the project, using outstanding craftsmanship techniques and noble materials, such as rare marbles, brass furniture, hand-woven wool carpets, leather velvets, and opulent silks. The boutique is characterised by clean lines, in addition to an extremely well-appointed and symmetric use of both space and light. Overall, the Key to the entire project becomes clear in the spare lines and juxtaposition of high-quality textures which blend perfectly with the glamorously chosen materials.

— Khalkedon House by EscapefromSofa —

Khalkedon House is a penthouse apartment located in Erenköy, a peaceful spot in Istanbul, Turkey, with the design signature of Escapefromsofa. The layout is combined with two floors including one dining & living room, a kitchen, two master, one double guest, one single guest room and a wide terrace space.

Contemporary modern style shows itself through every detail in the house. The living space is a blend of minimalistic lines enriched with luxurious materials such as brass and various Italian marbles are used in furnishings. Iroko flooring gives the space a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Custom designed wallpaper is the key element of the apartment.

Custom designed mid-century style cabinets and storage units, premium solid wood and marble coffee tables tune-up with general aesthetics designed to comfort the residents. In every room, furniture is custom designed, mostly handcrafted, expressing a style variation in between them. This penthouse apartment opens to a terrace garden with a mesmerising Prince Islands view through the living room.

— Electic Apartment by Ganna Design —

Ganna Design was responsible for the interior design of an eclectic apartment, in central Taipei, Taiwan, providing a lovely family, an uncluttered yet playfully refurbished setting to live in.

With an open-plan living configuration, the three-bedroom apartment is installed with large windows on two sides, which offer plentiful natural lighting and mesmerising views of the city. The Living room was designed to be the idyllic family nucleus, integrating not only a dining space but also an open plan kitchen. In order to add a sense of playfulness, the designers opted for furniture designs that can be rearranged at the owners’ desires, for the exception of a few pieces. One of the key pieces that mirror this concept is the six sofa-mattresses that can be moved around or placed on top of each other, almost feeling like a game of Legos.

The design group selected finishes that are rough and delicate, which is made evident in the exposed concrete ceiling and the light coloured veneer flooring. Several other pieces, including the deep aqua-marine sofa and the kitchen counter, add a splash of colour in an otherwise desaturated palette, while a fur-lined rocking chair provides a spot of texture.

— Info Center at the Groninger Museum by Hayon Studio —

Hayon Studio was responsible for the conception of the new Info Center at the glorious Groninger Museum, in the Netherlands, which symbolises a “true pièce de résistance”.

Regarded as a crucial part in the Museum, the interior of the centre has been completely renovated and is now composed of a small theatre where films and documentaries related to running exhibitions can be viewed. Instead of developing a conventional impersonal atmosphere that is quite conventional in this sort of setting, the idea behind the Info Center was to concede a cosier yet functional approach that is more flexible. The designer also incorporated a series of objects that are reflective of the latest technological achievements.

The aim was also to create a truly exceptional space that was unlike any other one could possibly visit in a museum, thus the reason why every furniture design is custom-made and manufactured exclusively for the centre.

— Mayfair Townhouse by Katharine Pooley —

Katharine Pooley was briefed with the complete renovation of Mayfair Townhouse, an 11,000 square ft Grade II listed property in the heart of London’s Mayfair from former office block to a complete family residence. In particular, the client wanted the restoration and reinstatement of the architectural detailing, achieved sensitively, but with a contemporary finish.

Being a Grade II listed property, the brief stated that it was important for the design to respect the classic, period detailing but to also be workable as a family residence. Katharine Pooley was therefore inspired to use a fresh, light palette with contemporary furniture and accessories in order to complement the traditional detailing.
