Prelude:

When I think of rescue mission episodes of this show, I think of ‘Spoils of War’ and ‘Goodbye Vietnam’. Those were very high quality episodes that were the best of Seasons 5 and 9. Masterfully written, planned, executed, also the whole team was involved in the rescue. This 1, is definitely not part of that high quality crew.

After receiving additional info on this episode, it didn’t look nearly as stupid as I once thought this would look like, except it’s pretty clear that this episode wasn’t really thought thru all that clearly

I like the occasional whump, heck I even write whump from time to time! But it’s best when it doesn’t look cheap, and this episode looked like a pretty cheap attempt at whump.

Thoughts on the actual episode:

Kilbride is seriously playing the team with his whole ‘trying to be a good guy’ routine. Telling Deeks to stay calm doesn’t automatically make him a ‘good guy’.

I believe that Callen is with Alex as much as I believe that these previous 2 Seasons have been great. (which in case you can’t tell what sarcasm is, is N-O-P-E!)

Hetty really needed to be in this episode. This is HER team, and when her babies are in danger, she needs to be in the loop!!!

1 non-negative comment: Hearing of Kensi trying to save herself is what I want to see Hetty do. As much as the whole ‘being saved by her team’ thing is nice, she’s more then capable of saving herself.

(Yes, I’m well aware of how much of a jealous loser I’m going to sound here), When do I get to see Callen go all ‘protective son’ with protecting Hetty? Heck, when do I get to see the whole team risk it all to protect the only good boss that they’ve ever had??! That would be so much better then the old ‘Kensi goes missing and Deeks gets angsty’ retread!!

New guest special agent is a major bore. 

Stop pushing Kilbride/Fatima!! They are NOT on the same level as Hetty/Nell was!!! 😡😡

Final thoughts:

When the time comes to bring Hetty home (even if it’s a year from now), don’t make it as dumb as this. Give that episode all the cheesy ‘lines from cheesy fanfics’ there is, all the hugging, and an ending like this. And don’t make it super gory! I don’t think I could handle seeing her with a serious injury!!
