never thought about the implications of frederick not seeing annabeth for five years. imagine the last thing you have of your daughter is a broken window lock and an unmade bed with cobwebs hanging from the headboard. and then reuniting with her five years later. and she's a foot taller. and her hair once natural is now braided and upkept. and she learned how to tie her shoes without you. and wow do you even know your daughter? and then she turns to face you from across the field. and her eyes are still the stormy gray that you remember. except they're now calculating and cold. searching for the slightest sign of a threat. and your heart sinks to the bottom of your stomach. because look what you put your daughter through.

it’s the fact that when percy and annabeth graduate from their high schools, annabeth’s estranged family is gonna fly out to NYC
which means there will almost certainly be an awkward dinner with both families.
“hey we’re the chases, the family who neglected, gaslit, and emotionally abandoned annabeth. but we feel really bad and we’re trying to do better.”
“hey we’re the blofis-jacksons, aka the loving family of your daughter’s boyfriend who took her in and loved her as our own after you neglected, glaslit, and emotionally abandoned her.”
except none of them actually say it. they’re all just thinking it.
sally has major mom beef with them, paul is trying to be nice but is skeptical, frederick feels guilty and awkward, mrs. chase is flat out uncomfortable, the twins are causing absolute chaos, annabeth is a wreck, percy’s making jokes every 17 seconds to attempt to diffuse the tension, and baby estelle is just vibin
i feel like a lot of wine would be consumed

i have a thought about pjo that i can't quite articulate but it goes along the lines of:
athena gave annabeth as a gift to frederick because she liked his search for knowledge. in athena's eyes, any action of annabeth's reflects herself, which is why annabeth 'embarrassing' her had such strong consequences
poseidon fell in love with impertinent, stubborn sally jackson. percy wasn't a gift to her - he is a cumulation of all of her stubborn, steadfast love.
why wouldn't poseidon still love and aid percy when all of percy's insolence is why he loved sally in the first place?

I just remembered how much guilt Annabeth must have from watching Thalia die protecting her, momentarily thinking Percy sacrificed himself for her at the arch, thinking Percy was dead for 2 weeks from blowing up saint Helen’s on her quest, Luke stabbing himself with her knife, and Arachne pulling her down to Tartarus and pulling Percy down too.
She must feel like they suffered because of her, and there’s no way she doesn’t feel guilty about that. Not to mention her stepmom made her feel like it was her fault the monsters attacked her and put her brothers in danger.

if in the Titans curse, Annabeth's dad made celestial bronze bullets? why haven't more people done that?
they'll give the demigods swords and shields but not guns? 💀

ok but what happened after annabeth ran away? how did frederick and the other lady react when one day, they woke up and their outcast child/stepchild (who is btw 7 YEARS OLD) wasn't sleeping in their bed? Did they NOT launch a police hunt for her? did frederick actually care but then the other lady shut it down? how did they feel as time passed and how did they live knowing that somewhere out there, a CHILD was dead or homeless and probably hunted down by monsters (which they knew all too well about) because of them? or did they both just brush it off as another burden off their shoulders, a blessing that was greater than annabeth's birth?

so how many writers are currently trying to write an awkward disneyworld trip oneshot featuring annabeth trying to act like she isn't a feral half god child literally raised in the woods while her dad tries to act like he doesn't desperately want to infodump to her about planes

When Percy was burning his blue rock candy I thought we were gonna get emotional Percy over his father and I was like “Percy would not do that for his dad at this point. The blue food is a joke between him and his mother. That’s the last gift she gave him.”
And then the emotional gut punch of Percy praying and making an offering not to any god but to his mom
Sally has always been a goddess to her loved ones. She has always done what she had to do to keep Percy safe. She may not be perfect but she’s better than some other mortal parents.
*cough* Mr Chase didn’t believe Annabeth about the spiders despite knowing about the mist and the gods. *Cough*
Sally Jackson goddess of demigods’ mortal parents
Got a shitty mortal parent? She’s your mom now. Have a cookie.
Abuse in the home? Not any more! And you’ll get a nice statue!

i just thinks it's neat that luke's whole shtick is targeting demigods whose faith in the gods and their environment are weakening. and one of the last people he visits before he turns is annabeth.

annabeth's line where she's almost reassuring herself that she was loved. that she was treated like the gift athena intended her to be for the first few years of her life.. could potentially indicate that she is being a bit of an unreliable narrator where her father is concerned.
blaming it all on the step mom is giving serious evil stepmother vibes that just.. don't add up entirely. if freddy truly treated annabeth 'like a gift,' then he shouldn't have been able to be swayed so easily by this new family to forget about her.. but honestly i can see little annabeth looking at cinderella, or stories like it, and projecting her own story onto them. once she started realizing she wasn't being treated well, she needed someone to blame. and she wasn't going to blame the dad she loved.

frederick chase defenders are getting out of hand. i get that Athena LITERALLY left a baby on his doorstep and it may have blindsided him but some of you act like he never financially recovered from annabeth and im gonna need you all to be so serious rn bc the chases were RICH rich
like even if he didn't want to take handouts from randolph he probably had like. STACKS left behind by their parents. THE MAN HAD A BIPLANE

since gods don't have DNA, if demigods were to have a DNA test, the results would only lead back to their mortal parent so it would look like Sally did a virgin mary and Frederick chase had an even more miracle baby

My thoughts on Ep. 4 - I Plunge to My Death, A rant
First off, Sally and baby Percy scene was so cute. I swear to god, no one will ever top Sally Jackson for being the best mortal parent in the series.
That Percabeth bonding scene in the train. Bruh, I cannot wait for the Kindness International truck and Waterland scenes.
Annabeth opening up about her Dad and Percy utterly shocked that not all mortal parents are like his Mom.
Frederick’s college ring on Annabeth’s necklace. To non book-readers, yes, that's her Dad's name.
Annabeth having to earn Thalia’s respect.
Luke caring for Annabeth right away just makes it more gut-wrenching and heart-breaking with what he’s about to do. (SPOILER ALERT) “Family, Luke. You promised.”
Grover being super grouchy when he doesn’t get enough sleep. And as someone in their twenties, I totally could relate to him.
This convo:
Percy : Can I ask a dumb question?
Annabeth: It's like you need me to make fun of you.
That's it, that's their relationship.
Mentioning the god of the wild, Pan, and that there are searchers for him.
How that convo basically went:
Train Cop: I don’t think you wanna take that tone with me, little girl.
Annabeth: EXFUCKINGCUSE ME?
Grover: Annabeth, no-!
Echidna calling the cops on 3 minors, just screams typical Karen behavior.
The St. Louis Arch being an actual temple of Athena is a nice change from Annabeth just wanting to go sightseeing.
This convo:
Percy: You've done more for me in the past few days than my father has done in my entire life. If I had to stick with someone, I-
Annabeth: Careful, I think you were about to call me a friend.
Percy: *stumbles because of the poison from the stinger*
Annabeth: *catches him*
Again, that’s their relationship.
Annabeth and Grover splashing water at Percy at a fountain when there’s a big-ass river nearby. Idk, but I find that funny.
Athena letting Echidna and the Chimera into the Arch because it wounded her pride? OH, HELL NO!
Athena’s Logic: Punish her devotee because someone close to them did something that wounded her pride. Medusa=Poseidon; Annabeth=Percy. She didn’t even gave a f*ck that the devotee in question is her own daughter. WTF, ATHENA!
I always thought Zeus has the crown for being the deadbeat absent godly parent, but Athena is slowly giving him a run for his money.
Annabeth deciding to sacrifice herself so Percy and Grover can continue the quest. WTF!
Percy tricking Annabeth into taking the final stand himself. Dude, your fatal flaw is showing.
Annabeth having to deal with a forbidden child sacrificing themselves for her safety AGAIN (With Thalia, and now Percy). Girl must be traumatized.
Grover having to go through it again as well.
The Chimera being terrifying than how non clear-sighted mortals see it.
Poseidon “always been here/so hard for me to stand back” Daddy to the rescue.
This:
Percy: *gets stuck underwater*
Nereid: It’s okay. You father sent me-
Percy: Oh, hell no! *tries to swim harder*
Percy only now realizing he can breath underwater. Like, of course, he can. He's Poseidon's kid.
We're only in Episode 4 and it's already so good. Can't wait for the episode 5.

give me annabeth unintentionnaly reminding people that luke and thalia raised her. Give me people being weirded out when they realize luke and annabeth share the same smile. Give me a son of hermes frustrated and screaming that annabeth always manages to steal and play tricks on the whole cabin without getting caught and how "she isn't the one with a trickster in her family" and then it hits him. Give me a daughter of hermes who realizes that the reason she always goes to annabeth when's she sad is because she comforts her like luke did. Give me percy realizing that annabeth tilts her head the same way luke does when explaining things and him biting his lip. He's jealous but he won't admit it. Give me Clarisse being angry that she can't win in a spar against annabeth because dammit she wields her sword just like luke but then again isn't that why she looses ? Give me Hermes flinching away from annabeth's anger because she has too much of his son's rage on her face.
Give me annabeth's eyes, darkening into a storm cloud color when angry, and it freaking everyone out. Give me Annabeth's voice sounding like a deep rumble when shouting orders. Give me a child of ares laughing at how annabeth wields a spear until they see thalia wield a lightning bolt the next day. Give me Jason being jealous of how Annabeth and thalia share the same belly laugh and smirk. Give me everybody being unsettled by the way it feels like thunder struck when Annabeth pierces at you with an angry gaze
Give me Frederick realizing that she's a sister before she is his daughter.
Give me the gods being scared when they notice her 'big three' traits.
